with the potential of more difficult weeks ahead Cllr Rodgers was keen to praise the way everyone is helping each other through it Cllr Rodgers said: “Most if not all of our usual activities in the villages have been absent from our lives now for nearly a year we don’t quite know exactly when they will return despite the excellent news of the vaccine roll-out – and I know some of our residents will have already been vaccinated at the nearby Lincolnshire Showground – but I want to help shine a light on all the efforts we have made as a community to help each other and how much we have been supported as a community have been open all the time and our community support initiatives – including those organised by the Parish Councils to deliver shopping to those shielding – have been incredibly valuable to our more vulnerable community members My complete thanks go to all of the volunteers for making this happen.” Maintaining and strengthening physical and mental health during the global pandemic has been a constant priority for all communities over the past few months and local teams in Welton and Dunholme have continued to work to provide support for their communities Cllr Grimble added: “We have a huge network of volunteers in Welton and Dunholme who have all worked hard to keep people healthy and upbeat Both Welton and Dunholme have their own two separate monthly magazines for example This has allowed for residents to connect with each other over the past few months keeping up-to-date with the latest community information I am delighted that this has allowed for vital Covid-19 information including contact information for vital services to be sent to those who may not have access to digital news in the same way others do This strong community spirit has always been a part of Welton and Dunholme and it is hoped this will continue into a post-pandemic world “It is wonderful being a part of this community local pharmacy and social care teams have been wonderful and have worked non-stop to reassure anyone who has felt unwell “Our bin collectors have continued to provide an excellent service and our postal workers have arrived with their usual cheery banter – though not always on time “2020 brought out a strong community spirit which I feel sure will continue until and hopefully after Ward Councillor for Welton and Dunholme and Chairman of the Council is usually out-and-about the entire District as part of his role as Chairman but due to the current lockdown he has been able to witness first-hand how the communities he represents have come together Cllr England said: “I have said it many times but the word I always use to describe how I have seen communities come together during this pandemic is humbling communities have come together; you don’t have to look far here for instance to find a resident who is volunteering with the vaccination campaign or volunteering to check on their neighbours or to deliver food or medicines to those who need to shield or isolate “We have a community here that is made up of many Parishes all coming together to help each other out; I know that many residents use the facilities in Welton and Dunholme as well as facilities within their own area It is vitally important that we all continue to come together and play our part who have become a central point of contact for those in need of help and I know I echo the thoughts of my fellow District ward members when I say thank you to all those who have volunteered in some capacity such as the Welton Paper Shop – who have spent the last few months delivering food basics to those who need them – who will get us all through to the light at the end of the tunnel.” prescriptions and even a special snowman delivery are just some of the ways residents of Welton have come together to bring a smile to the people in the local community Community Leaders and members of the public in the Welton and Dunholme villages met at a Sports Complex to discuss just how they were going to help each other through the global pandemic Upcoming works include the commissioning of the new water mains Current/Ongoing traffic restrictions and closures Upcoming traffic restrictions and closures Major works to improve safety on the A46 near Dunholme and Welton are officially complete said: "I'm delighted to say that the new A46 Dunholme/Welton roundabout is now fully open over 11,000 vehicles use this stretch of road every day so I'm sure the safer junction with Lincoln Road and increased visibility on the A46 will be welcomed by locals and commuters alike and this new roundabout is a testament to their hard work over the past ten months over 22,000 workforce hours have been spent nearly a mile of new drainage installed and over 9,000 tonnes of tarmac used to build our county's newest roundabout "Not only does the new roundabout mean increased safety on the A46 but drivers can also expect less congestion in addition to the scheme helping to support future development in the area." Below are some facts and figures about the A46 Dunholme/Welton roundabout project: spokesperson for Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership "There have been 16 injury collisions on the A46 Welton junction which now has become the site of a new roundabout the CCTV from the garage has recorded many more and we are lucky that most of those collisions have not resulted in a reported injury "Four people have been seriously injured in those collisions and whilst most people recover "We see the completion of the roundabout not only as an improvement to the traffic flow but as a safer environment for all road users and a good example of engineering the problems out of our roads." said: "We recognise the importance of establishing and understanding our clients’ needs and expectations "We have developed and very close relationship with LCC and help each other where we can to minimise disruption to the public and get the scheme to across the line "We have faced some challenges along the way which have been quite unique but together we have overcome these and pushed the job to the finish line." Jane Lewis enjoys a family break at this welcoming country haven A short but scenic drive outside Lincoln city centre lies Ashlin Farm Barns a collection of modern self-catering homes because they’ve been carefully and lovingly designed to feel like your own place It’s a family run business set up by Natalie and her husband who started developing barns during lockdown with the business having bloomed since then in my opinion this collection of barns is best suited to hosting Many of the properties sleep over 10 people and have large open plan living areas making it an ideal place for get-togethers Natalie will advise on the barns closest together to ensure guests are close by We stayed in Rowan Barn for my Dad’s 70th birthday and had the most special of breaks; a lot of that was down to the accommodation bright open living room and kitchen area were straight out a showroom boasting contemporary touches like underfloor heating and a well-equipped kitchen We enjoyed many dinners and brunches around the wooden table as the beautiful morning light trickled through the bifold doors.     you’ll know the county’s long skies often host the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets and we were lucky that our private garden overlooked an open stretch of countryside Each barn is equipped with a private hot tub ensuring you can soak in the skies without getting chilly and the barn didn’t ever feel cramped and each of the five individually decorated bedrooms comes with an ensuite and smart TV so there’s little need to leave if the socialising gets too much We stayed at Ashlin Farm during winter but the barns would make a wonderful place for family holidays each property has a barbecue and an outdoor room which makes for an ideal place for young ones to play guests staying at Ashlin Farm Barns have the option of exploring both the countryside and city The site is just a few minutes’ walk away from a beautiful nature reserve which is well worth a stroll We were there in winter so kept moving to stay walm but come summer there are benches scattered throughout the reserve making it a gorgeous spot for a picnic.   Lincoln itself is worthy of both a day and night trip – the historic charming city is home to many independent shops and pretty canals there’s a different vibe in the city when the pubs come to life as our taxi driver informed us: “it’s a brilliant place to pub crawl” We didn’t manage a crawl but can highly recommend The Adam and Eve – reputedly the oldest tavern in Lincoln dating back as far as 1701 – it’s a classic cosy British pub packed with interesting and friendly locals We stayed at Ashlin Farm for three nights and felt sad to leave at the end There’s so much to love about these homely barns; cooking in the beautiful kitchen mornings in the hot tub and stunning sunrises and sunsets.  So often trips away can feel impersonal but Natalie and her family went above and beyond to make us welcome and when the heating system temporarily glitched they decorate every property and gift all guests a welcome hamper of local goodies; ours contained delicious biscuits I cannot recommend Ashlin Farm Barns enough.   Address: Ashlin Farm Barns, Ashing Lane, Dunholme, Lincoln, LN2 3BY Phone: 01673 274 061Website: ashlinfarmbarns.co.uk 2 OCT 2024BookmarkThe new services should help people get around after dark (Image: Stagecoach East Midlands)Travelling by bus after dark in Lincolnshire has just got a little easier following the announcement by Stagecoach East Midlands of several improvements to its Lincoln late night services The company says that this is part of its plan for the whole of the East Midlands and travel options for everyone in the region Funding for these changes has come from Lincolnshire County Council’s Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) which is designed to improve connectivity and provide more convenient travel options across the region Among those expected to benefit most are those travelling to and from Lincoln for shift work or socialising in the evenings These new services will connect Lincoln with Bracebridge Heath New Service 1E/2E will provide an hourly evening service between Lincoln and the surrounding villages of Bracebridge Heath the last bus from Lincoln Bus Station will depart at 12:15 am offering greater flexibility for late-evening travellers New Service 12A will run hourly Monday to Saturday evenings between Lincoln The last bus from Lincoln Bus Station will leave at 10:30 pm providing extended service hours for these communities This is in addition to late night services announced earlier in the year The new scheme prioritises affordability and accessibility with single fares capped at £2 with DayRider and MegaRider tickets available too for more frequent bus users safer than walking or cycling with the darker nights creeping in and more opportunity to save money on parking Stagecoach East Midlands is restating its commitment to answer the needs and desires of public transport customers as well as encouraging new users to choose the bus over other methods of travel The big picture here is the move towards a safer and greener future With the company aiming to make its fleet completely electric in the coming years the hope is that it will play its part in making a real difference to the planet Managing Director of Stagecoach East Midlands along with other improvements we have recently made further cement our commitment to meeting the evolving needs of our passengers in Lincolnshire “The extended service hours and increased frequencies will provide greater flexibility for those travelling in and around Lincoln and we are grateful to Lincolnshire County Council for their support in making these enhancements possible “We look forward to seeing the positive impact that they will have on local communities and encourage all our customers to check the new timetables and take advantage of the improved services.” Home   News   Article A man who burgled a house in Newark and pretended he was looking for his son's bike has been jailed Jack Alexander Carlisle broke into the house on Dunholme Avenue on Tuesday heard a noise and saw 29-year-old Carlisle in the garden he claimed he was searching for his son's bike The victim then rang the police and officers managed to locate Carlisle carrying four bags with stolen items inside Carlisle was located later that night and charged with burglary appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Wednesday and was sentenced to 12 months behind bars He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge said: "Carlisle invaded these people's home without a second thought and stole from them probably knowing that they were inside at the time "We are glad that he was caught and held to account for his crimes and we hope that this sends a strong message out that criminals will not get away with burglary on any level and if you offend we will do everything we can to track you down and bring you before the courts."
