has been awarded its third contract in Kent
This is to manufacture and install the timber superstructures for eight ultra-low energy homes in the town of Edenbridge for developer The Balma Group
Project architects Edwards Wilson are working with Balma to deliver the Crofton Mews development
three-bed mews-style houses and two two-storey
This will provide much needed family housing for market sale or rent in the centre of the town and adjacent to a primary school
TALO’s building system is currently manufactured offsite in Finland and uses slow-grown Nordic timber for superior build quality
It arrives on site complete with triple glazing
a high level of insulation pre-installed in the factory and external walls with interior plaster boarding
This approach means the homes at Crofton Mews will benefit from a much higher level of thermal efficiency
exceeding Passivhaus energy standards by at least 30 per cent
TALO’s highly insulated superstructure also achieves outstanding air tightness
It is combined with a solar battery package and MVHR (mechanical ventilation and heat recovery)
resulting in exceptionally low energy bills for homeowners or tenants
the eight homes will be installed on site and watertight in just 10 days
ready for the contractor to start fitting out
Commenting on the decision to use TALO’s offsite system for this scheme, James Everest, Managing Director of The Balma Group:
“We estimate that the overall programme saving from using this advanced offsite housing system will be around six months
It will give us a faster return on investment and greater certainty of programme for the fit-out phase
It will also enable us to bring these new family homes to market much sooner
to the benefit of the community of Edenbridge
The TALO approach has already generated significant cost savings in structural engineering and groundworks from its standardised design and foundations
We also found it very useful to visit TALO’s offsite factory in Finland and to see a number of homes there under construction
The pace of work on site despite freezing temperatures was incredible.”
“We don’t believe you can build to this level of specification and performance traditionally
The fact that this system is manufactured using robust
proven processes in a controlled factory environment
The system also has a higher level of insulation for improved thermal efficiency
these homes will comfortably exceed Building Regulations requirements for energy performance and air tightness by a considerable margin
giving occupants the benefit of much lower running costs.”
the homes at Crofton Mews have been designed to complement other housing in the locality
Each home will have open plan family kitchen-living
and there will be eight parking spaces and one visitor/disabled bay
For more information about TALO’s timber offsite solutions for ultra-low energy housing, see www.talo.co.uk or email hello@talo.co.uk

Edenbridge Bonfire Society has announced that the famous effigy for its 2024 event will be Ticketmaster
The 11-metre effigy of Ticketmaster was unveiled this morning before it is moved to become the centre piece at the Kent town’s annual bonfire celebrations which raises thousands of pounds for local charities
Ticketmaster was decided by a committee due to their ‘greedy dynamic pricing of tickets’ for the long-awaited Oasis tour coming up in 2025
which saw fans who had been waiting for hours in a queue being told the price of tickets was as much as £506.25 each
The Society have included the Gallagher brothers as ‘puppets’ on the effigy as it was their tour which brought to light the unfair dynamic pricing of tickets in the first place
commented: “We wanted to remind people that it doesn’t always have to be politicians who we create for our annual event. We also wanted to appeal to a wider audience. The Ticketmaster ticket fiasco has affected a lot of different age groups
and I know many fans were very unhappy at being ripped off by Ticketmaster when they discovered the price of the tickets. No one likes being taken advantage of by these big companies.”
said: “In the eight years I’ve been doing this we have done so many politicians
so this year we really wanted to do something different. Although our effigy includes Liam and Noel Gallagher
it is the corporate giant of Ticketmaster we have gone with this year. We are all big Oasis fans and wish them a very successful tour.”
Other contenders for the 2024 event included Sir Kier Starmer
P-Diddy and Mohammed Al-Fayed to name a few.
Past targets for Edenbridge Bonfire Society’s effigy have been a real mixture of public figures
The burning of effigies is a traditional celebration of the 5th of November
The intention behind the tradition is to bring a light-hearted twist and an element of fun to the proceeding and to raise awareness of this event – which raises thousands of pounds for local charities and community organisations.
Edenbridge Bonfire Society only started to feature giant effigies at their event since the mid-nineties when they were no longer able to light a huge bonfire in the local recreation ground
Edenbridge Bonfire Society has been celebrating Bonfire Night for nearly 100 years and this year will see more than 500 people participating in the torchlit parade through Edenbridge High Street

A man has been jailed for five years after a blank firing gun was converted into a deadly weapon and discharged during a fight between rival groups in Edenbridge
The weapon was fired by Muhamet Mahmutaj and although it caused no injuries he has been handed a prison sentence
Mahmutaj was one of several men involved in a street disturbance on May 2
which was believed to be linked to a dispute over drugs
Fighting broke out in areas around Stanbridge Road and Pine Grove and the incident included assaults with a catapult and a knife
Mahmutaj was carrying a blank firing pistol
which had been converted to be capable of firing live rounds
He made attempts to shoot at one of the rival males
He was with a friend who had been stabbed during the fight and he initially claimed they had been set upon by people they didn’t know
Searches led to the recovery of the gun nearby
An 8mm round which had misfired was found within the barrel
An investigation conclusively matched the weapon to Mahmutaj
Enquiries also connected him to a white Audi
which on the previous day was linked to incidents of criminal damage to cars belonging to the rival group
East London was charged with possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence
He pleaded not guilty at Maidstone Crown Court but was convicted after a trial and then sentenced on December 13
Detective Inspector Paul Raines said: "Mahmutaj had every intention of using this converted weapon and attempted to fire it at other people in a residential area
during the incident only a blank round misfired
"Brandishing any weapon on our streets is completely unacceptable and anyone bringing firearms into Kent and risking the safety of the public will be robustly pursued and prosecuted to the full extent of the law
We welcome the custodial sentence passed by the courts."

Poking fun at the corporate giant comes as a change from last year’s effigy of London Mayor Sadiq Khan over his “unpopular decision” to extend the capital’s charge for polluting vehicles
as well as other politicians previously targeted including Liz Truss and Donald Trump
Other possible contenders for this year’s effigy due to be burned at the town’s bonfire celebrations on Saturday included Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer
as well as US rapper P Diddy (Sean “Diddy” Combs)
who faces charges including sex trafficking
the late former Harrods boss who has been accused of abuse

The Ticketmaster ticket fiasco has affected a lot of different age groups

She added that “no-one likes being taken advantage of”
Fans shared their frustrations at queuing for tickets for hours for the sell-out reunion tour before finding some tickets had more than doubled in price from around £148 to about £355 on the site in August
An explanation by the Ticketmaster website about the “in-demand standing ticket” price said: “The event organiser has priced these tickets according to their market value
Availability and pricing are subject to change.”
Ticketmaster previously said it does not set prices
and shared a link to its website where it says costs can be “fixed or market-based”
It is believed that ticket prices are set by promoters
Effigy creator Reece Hook said: “Although our effigy includes Liam and Noel Gallagher
it is the corporate giant of Ticketmaster we have gone with this year
We are all big Oasis fans and wish them a very successful tour.”

"Although our effigy includes Liam and Noel Gallagher
they are not our target - it is the corporate giant of Ticketmaster we have gone with this year"
Edenbridge Bonfire Society has revealed that this year’s effigy for the 2025 event will be based on the Ticketmaster Oasis fiasco
The Kent-based society shared that the 11ft effigy which will be lit at the bonfire celebration this Saturday (November 2) was chosen as a response to Ticketmaster’s “greedy” dynamic pricing fiasco that occurred during the sale of tickets for Oasis’ 2025 reunion tour
The sculpture also features puppets of both Liam and Noel Gallagher as it was their reunion tour that brought to light the reality of the ticket seller’s inflated pricing scheme
As reported by BBC
the group have been “poking fun at infamous celebrities” for over 25 years and have previously targeted the likes of Donald Trump
Ticketmaster unveiled as #BonfireNight effigy over #Oasis tour ‘fiasco’ https://t.co/UoNMzv6jcg pic.twitter.com/EhmnPUHsU0
— Belfast Telegraph (@BelTel) October 30, 2024
“In the eight years I’ve been doing this we have done so many politicians
so this year we really wanted to do something different,” Reece Hook – one of the effigy’s creators – told BBC
He continued: “Although our effigy includes Liam and Noel Gallagher
they are not our target – it is the corporate giant of Ticketmaster we have gone with this year
We are all big Oasis fans and wish them a very successful tour.”
During the tumultuous sale for the legendary band’s UK and Ireland shows, some fans were disappointed to find ticket prices were impacted by the dynamic pricing policy upon accessing payment pages
The ticketing platform’s “surge pricing” scheme
Ticketmaster have clarified on their website previously that tickets that are “market-priced” and “may increase or decrease at any time
This is similar to how airline tickets and hotel rooms are sold.”
At the time, Oasis responded with a statement which read: “Oasis leave decisions on ticketing and pricing entirely to their promoters and management
and at no time had any awareness that dynamic pricing was going to be used.”
The band later confirmed that a dynamic pricing structure would not be applied to their North American reunion tour dates
More recently, Oasis have announced that they will be cancelling thousands of tickets to their upcoming UK 2025 reunion tour that have been sold via resale websites
have revealed they will be cancelling all tickets sold via secondary ticketing sites
All invalidated tickets will then be made available again through Ticketmaster
In other news, Liam Gallagher recently teased that Oasis are about to announce the South American leg of their huge reunion world tour

“No one likes being taken advantage of,” says effigy artist Andrea Deans
Bonfire Night celebrations kicked off with a bang this weekend, with crowds across the country indulging in the usual mix of fireworks and bonfires – but a small town in Kent decided to burn off some Oasis-related grievances
In protest of Ticketmaster’s controversial dynamic pricing system, Edenbridge hosted its own Oasis-themed witch burning, with effigies of Liam and Noel Gallagher placed in the centre of the town’s annual bonfire
Edenbridge burns down the most topical villain of the moment
Previous effigies have included politicians
as well as convicted sex offender and film producer Harvey Weinstein and doping cyclist Lance Armstrong
“The Ticketmaster ticket fiasco has affected a lot of different age groups
and I know many fans were very unhappy at being ripped off… when they discovered the price of the tickets,” effigy artist Andrea Deans explains via Edenbridge Bonfire Society’s Facebook page
Say hello to our 2024 effigy 🎫 The Ticketmaster 🎫We wanted to remind people that it doesn’t always have to be…

and added them to the design purely because they highlighted the dynamic ticket pricing and brought all this to light,” she writes
The real villain this year was the “money-emoji” businessman featured in the effigy
“We wanted to show Ticketmaster for what it is – a money-making machine,” she says
When Oasis announced their reunion back in August
“The stars have aligned,” their announcement said
Sky News reported that online queues for reunion tickets exceeded 500,000 hopefuls
Ticketmaster’s dynamic pricing system quickly responded to the huge demand
dramatically amping up the £150 face value price tag
Ticketmaster explained the price hike by pointing to its terms
where it notes that prices can be “fixed or market-based”
While Deans implies the blame is squarely in Ticketmaster’s court, others have been critical of the Gallaghers; many believed the brothers were aware of Ticketmaster’s dynamic pricing system. However, the Oasis duo issued a statement
saying: “It needs to be made clear that Oasis leave decisions on ticketing and pricing entirely to their promoters and management.”
They explained that “at no time” did they have “any awareness that dynamic pricing was going to be used”
Ticketmaster and the band’s management resulted in a positive ticket sale strategy
which would be a fair experience for fans… the execution of the plan failed to meet expectations,” the statement continued
A post shared by Oasis (@oasis)
Oasis’s management seem to support the controversial pricing system
An Instagram statement reads: “It is widely accepted that dynamic pricing remains a useful tool to combat ticket touting and keep prices for a significant proportion of fans lower than the market rate and thus more affordable.”
In light of the backlash, Oasis did not employ dynamic pricing for their North American and Australian tour dates

The Food and Drug Administration scolded a company for a promotional display that falsely claimed its brand-name medicine was more effective than generic versions
which is apparently the first time the agency office responsible for monitoring advertising has cited such an issue
In a Feb. 3 letter posted on the FDA website this week, the Office of Prescription Drug Promotion wrote that Edenbridge Pharmaceuticals displayed a panel about its Hemady treatment for multiple myeloma in a conference exhibit booth
not only was there a lack of important risk information
but the promotional panel also maintained there was greater patient adherence to its drug compared with generics
The agency pointed out that the study cited by the company did not support this conclusion because of problems with the study design and methodology
it was not clear whether the patients given a generic version were newly diagnosed or had relapsed multiple myeloma
which are distinct patient groups that require different treatment regimens

SOOOOOOON, the famous word for 70000tons of Metal cruisers know to love and hate. And one thing you learn is announcements are always unpredictable. After experiencing the 2024 edition to its fullest capability, we captured all sixty-two bands, bringing back our Artist Spotlight

Well, it’s more than a review of their performance; as 70000tons goes, each band is a headliner, and we treat each one as such, giving them their own spread, discussing who they are and what they’ve been up to since the cruise. Each spotlight coincides with any updates from 70000tons organizers (if any)
