Watch how Falkirk sealed promotion on dramatic night
The Bairns are back where they believe they belong - the Scottish Premiership
did they do it the hard way in a dramatic final-day decider after a few wobbles in recent weeks
Following their 3-1 win over Hamilton Academical on Friday
It is a second successive title and promotion under the stewardship of the man with the cap
and a major moment for the side who dropped down into League 1 six years ago
The 'Champions 25' T-shirts have been ironed for a few weeks
but it would not have been Falkirk if there had not been one final twist in a tale that seemed storied weeks ago
but just how have the Bairns got back there
BBC Scotland takes a look at Falkirk's fantastic couple of seasons following years of carrying the unfortunate label of Scotland's sleeping giant

Raith Rovers thump Queen's Park but miss play-off spot
When McGlynn was unveiled as the new manager of Falkirk in May 2022 - just one day after leaving Raith Rovers - the club had just slumped to a sixth-place finish in their third season in the third tier
That was after being relegated to League 1 - on goal difference - nine years after their demotion from the top flight
told BBC Scotland: "I was just so dumbfounded that Falkirk found themselves in that position and then tumbled into League 1 with a whimper
"It was a downward spiral in League 1 until we got McGlynn
He came in and completely revamped the side."
the former Hearts boss pulled no punches on his arrival and said that
he and trusty assistant Paul Smith were "excited at the prospect of trying to get it back where we think it should belong"
While they finished second only to runaway league winners - and local rivals - Dunfermline Athletic
they were demolished 7-2 by Airdrieonians over the two-legged play-off semi-final
A furious fifth season in League 1 was set to be endured
Along with shrewd acquisitions from the season prior - the likes of Stephen McGinn
Coll Donaldson and Gary Oliver - the Bairns stormed to the 2023-24 title with five games to spare
SNSThey secured it in fashion with a 7-1 mauling of Montrose
but they were not heading for the sun loungers yet
but an invincible league campaign was on the cards
In the 84th minute of their last game in League 1 against Alloa Athletic
it appeared the Bairns were going to fall agonisingly short
Then Spencer put away a penalty to etch the team's name into the history books
"To eventually get out of League 1 and do it as invincibles was one of my favourite moments as a Falkirk supporter," McInally said
Bringing Scott Arfield back to Falkirk proved a masterstroke by John McGlynn
the Bairns could be forgiven for making the most of their Championship opener on a Friday night back in August
they pulled out all the stops - and did not stop there
Kicking off the campaign with a five-game winning run - which included the first win at Dunfermline's East End Park in five years - they made a seamless transition back to the second tier
Landmarks in the season - international breaks
festive fixture - came and went with little fuss on the pitch but plenty excitement off it as the team remained at the top of the tree throughout
That exhilaration was taken up yet another notch on 3 February when homegrown hero Scott Arfield
"It was complete and utter Roy of the Rovers stuff," McInally said of the academy product's re-signing
then I got a couple of messages from people who know Scott saying 'this is happening'
Then it happened and it was such a buzz."
With the number 37 on his back - a number that had been
retired following the tragic death of former team-mate Craig Gowans
Arfield marked his magical return with a hat-trick against Partick Thistle
It proved to be the start of an eight-game unbeaten run that had the Bairns heading into the final six games with an 11-point advantage
Get the fancy champagne checked out and the T-shirts sent to the printer
Back-to-back titles started to seem a matter of when
SNSSuch goods no doubt made the journey down to Somerset Park
where a win over Ayr United in the fourth last game of the season would all but secure the title
a stoppage-time equaliser from Ethan Walker put the champagne on ice
It came and went in similar style against Rovers
who stunned the league leaders with three goals from the 88th minute onwards
it happened again against 10-man Thistle the following Friday at Firhill
Terry Ablade's incredible winner in the seventh minute of stoppage time had the panic button being well and truly battered
the Championship trophy was lingering midway around Linlithgow
that was perhaps the destination being punched into the satnav
when an Ethan Ross free-kick not only sent Falkirk Stadium into a frenzy but set the Bairns on their way to something of a comfortable win
but for scenes such as those at full-time on Friday

FALKIRK'S footy heroes took to their town after their sensational Championship win to party in style
The Bairns swept to victory last night as they pipped Livingston to achieve promotion back to the Premiership after 15 years
The two sides were level on points for the last game but Falkirk's goal difference and their 3-1 win against Hamilton Accies saw them cinch the title
And the team have been celebrating their win in spectacular fashion as they were spotted in local nightclub Maniqui
The players were gathered in a private area as scores of jubilant supporters surrounded them
Footage showed the moment the crowd erupted into song honouring midfielder and Rangers cult hero Scott Arfield
Hundreds of ecstatic Falkirk fans screamed out "Saturday night and I like the way you move, Scotty Arfield!"
The player repeatedly pumped his fist in the air before wandering down onto the dancefloor to join the fans.
He stood on a chair in front of the scores of supporters, with one wrapped in a 'Falkirk Winners' flag.
We told earlier tonight how Arfield got a special shout-out from the artist of the hit tune after last night's heroics
The SPFL had a surprise for him as they showed him a recorded message from Whigfield to congratulate him
There was no shortage of joyous scenes in Falkirk yesterday
Fans had left the stands to wait right on the sidelines for the final moments of the game
After the final whistle secured the Bairns' victory and promotion
Double goal-scorer Ethan Ross was hoisted onto the shoulders of one fan in triumph during the sensational scenes
But club boss John McGlynn reckoned he won't get an invite to the promotion party to celebrate the end of their 15-year exile from the Premiership
He said: "It’s an amazing feeling - different class
"We will have a little celebration but I won’t get a pass to Ibiza with the players!"

John McGlynn's Falkirk held off the challenge of Livingston to win the Scottish Championship title
Falkirk manager John McGlynn admits a return to Scotland's top flight as a head coach felt "a million miles away" during his four-year stint away from management
was named PFA Scotland manager of the year for the second season running after leading Falkirk to the Scottish Championship title
McGlynn beat Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers and Hibernian head coach David Gray to the honour after ending Falkirk's 15-year absence from the top tier
"To be in the company is amazing."
McGlynn is the first man to win the award three times
having first done so in 2011 in his first spell with Raith Rovers
The 63-year-old then managed Hearts and Livingston - who he left in 2014 - before taking a backroom role at Celtic in 2015
"I was a million miles away from here," he said

'Ipswich were inspiration' as Falkirk secure title and promotion
as a football coach and manager that I was previously before going into that
who I've got a really good relationship with and respect him so much
"He's actually helped the teams that I've worked with since then
McGlynn says those learnings have been hugely beneficial since his return to management with Raith Rovers in 2018
"I had a connection with Raith Rovers
"I got an opportunity to go back and then managed to fulfil that ambition to play in that way
which was successful and then to take it to Falkirk
"There's no way I could have dreamt that could have happened but I'm delighted that it did
I'm sure a lot of Falkirk fans are happier that it happened as well."
Having missed out on promotion with the Kirkcaldy club
His second season with the Bairns ended in promotion after an unbeaten League 1 campaign and McGlynn then swept to the Championship title at the first time of asking
"I went to Raith Rovers and played the same kind of style [as Celtic]
or tried to play the same kind of style with different players obviously," he said
"Raith Rovers played some amazing football
bit unlucky not to get to the Premiership one year and then going to Falkirk and managing to do what we've done is absolutely incredible
they're playing attractive attacking football
they're getting entertained and for most of the time we're winning

Volunteers from Buzzness Community Group successfully re-opened the toilets after Falkirk Council’s decision to close them for financial reasons in 2022
Members of Falkirk Council’s executive agreed to hand the responsibility for the toilets over to the group along with New Carriden Cemetery Bothy, which will be used for storage by the group.
Buzzness had a public consultation on the takeover, which attracted more than 500 responses overwhelmingly in favour.
The report states that they also have the full support of current user groups including the Bo’ness Scouts, the local rugby club, businesses, schools and cycling and walking groups, as well as local people who use the town centre for shopping or to attend events.
The group say that having public toilets means that more people will visit the historic town centre of Bo’ness and was particularly welcomed by people with health concerns, parents with young children, and the elderly.
Members heard that Buzzness currently operates three large community events every year through a programme of donations from both the public and from local businesses.
The public also support the venture well through donations of items for the public conveniences such as cleaning and sanitary products, toilet roll and soap.
The report also notes that group members donate 1,404 hours of time annually to the running of activities – which would be equivalent to more than £24,148 if they were paid for this.
As this – along with the health and well-being benefits – far exceeds the market value of the toilets, members agreed to the long-term lease for the toilets and bothy.
Members heard the business plan was robust, and the group has a strong track record, but in the event that they are unable to continue management the facilities will return to the community.

Promotion to the top flight of Scottish football will be Falkirk's first appearance at that level since season 2009/10
Partick Thistle defeated Livingston 1-0 to secure their play-off place - they will face Ayr United in the quarter-finals next week with Livi taking on the winners
Raith Rovers just missed out on a top-four finish despite thrashing Queen's Park 5-1 at Hampden while Morton defeated Dunfermline Athletic 2-0 in Greenock

Falkirk Council has approved a further two Community Asset Transfer (CAT) proposals at the recent Executive (Thursday 1 May 2025), sanctioning the lease of the New Carriden Cemetery Bothy and Bo’ness Public Conveniences.
Part of the Council’s wider Community Asset Transfer programme, the initiative has now helped local groups to take on ownership or management of more than a dozen community facilities within the past six months.
Both leases will be granted to the Buzzness Community Group for £1 per year over a 20-year period.
Buzzness Community Group plans to use the New Carriden Cemetery Bothy as storage space to support its community activities, along with the operation of the Bo’ness Public Conveniences.
Energy efficiency improvements are also being explored for the future.
Buzzness engaged with the community to develop the proposals, through events, social media, and a questionnaire coordinated by the community council, receiving more than 500 responses.
The plans have also been supported by a range of local groups, including schools, sports clubs, and local businesses, who highlighted the benefits to community wellbeing, access to facilities, and the local economy.
The Council's assessment agreed that the group’s governance, leadership, and business planning demonstrate the ability to manage the assets sustainably.
The leases allow the Council to continue its strategy of enabling communities to take control of local facilities.
Councillor Cecil Meiklejohn, Leader of Falkirk Council said:
Community Asset Transfers like these are about more than property - they’re about giving local people the tools to protect and enhance spaces that matter to them.”
“These approved transfers highlight our ongoing commitment to the programme and its goals of building stronger communities through locally led initiatives.
“We’re pleased to see Buzzness Community Group stepping forward to continue delivering services in Bo’ness and making good use of facilities that would otherwise be at risk.

FALKIRK have completed sensational back-to-back promotions to return to the Premiership after 15 long years away
Livingston were fighting for an immediate bounce back to the top flight on a dramatic final day of Championship action
John McGlynn guided the Bairns to an invincible League One-winning season last year
earning him the SPFL Manager of the Year award
And Falkirk started this Championship season like a rocket too, seemingly in a two-way tussle for the title with Celtic legend Scott Brown and his Ayr United outfit
But as Ayr fell away, Livingston emerged as the main contenders to return to the top flight at the first time of asking after their relegation under David Martindale last term
A four-game winning streak for Livi, coupled with an incredible last-minute defeat for Falkirk against Partick Thistle last week
meant the teams were level on points going into the final game
That didn't stop the bottom side from providing an almighty scare though
as they took an early lead through Scott Robinson
McGlynn's side have been resilient all season though
and after Ethan Ross scored in either half and Calvin Miller added a third the promotion party got underway
with fans storming the Falkirk Stadium pitch
McGlynn hailed his players after the game, but admitted he WON'T be attending the planned big celebration.
But the promotion play-off places were still to be decided, as Thistle and Raith Rovers fought for the right to join Livingston and Ayr in the top four
Thistle faced the daunting task of a visit to the Tony Macaroni Arena to play title-chasing Livi
whilst Raith travelled to already-safe Queen's Park
led by interims Brian Graham and Mark Wilson
scored thanks to Macaulay Tait's own goal
so despite Raith's 5-1 win at Hampden
Thistle's 1-0 victory kept them in the top four and put them in a fourth straight play-off

JOHN McGLYNN hailed his Falkirk heroes as they sealed promotion to the Premiership
The Bairns beat Hamilton Accies 3-1 to secure the title and end a 15-year exile from the top flight
Ethan Ross’ double and a Calvin Miller strike got them over the line and sparked a mass pitch invasion at full-time
Boss McGlynn said: "It’s an amazing feeling - different class
"It was great to celebrate with the players in the dressing room because you never get these moments back
"We will have a little celebration but I won’t get a pass to Ibiza with the players
"On the first day back I said to them, ‘Ipswich did it back to back, why can’t we?’
"That was the reality and it has taken a real team effort to get here.
"I knew that we had a chance from the first game, this is a big club with a great fanbase.
"Fair play to Livingston
they gave us a run for our money but we came out on top
"We have made it hard for ourselves over the last few weeks and we did it again going 1-0 down
"But the players have been incredible and I can’t praise their character enough
"The league table never lies and it's an amazing achievement to win another promotion
"This is a tough step up and we have come out on top again to win another title
"People have praised our style and that is really pleasing
"We had a little stutter but we have stepped up a level over the course of the season and we are so happy
"I will never forget this and I need to thank my wife for putting up with me recently."
Scott Robinson had tapped Hamilton into a shock early lead but a powerful Ross free-kick levelled things
The attacker made it 2-1 with a close-range strike before Miller rifled in the third to seal the win
Falkirk fans stood on the touchline long before the end and then raced onto the pitch as soon as the full-time whistle blew
Bairns legend Alex Totten brought the Championship trophy out for the presentation
McGlynn then led the team back out to lift the trophy as their long wait for a Premiership return ended
Hamilton bowed out of the Championship after their 15-point deduction was confirmed but boss John Rankin was proud of their display
He said "I just said 'Thank you' to my players
"I'm a bit emotional at the moment as I never slept last night
"But I awoke knowing they would give me everything and that's what they did
"These players don't know what the future holds but they know how to stick together
I just wanted a performance and I got that."
Livingston had taken the title race to the last day but lost to Partick Thistle - meaning Falkirk won it by three points

Ipswich Town's rise to the Premier League in England gave Falkirk the inspiration to achieve their own back-to-back promotions
manager John McGlynn said after they secured the Scottish Championship title with victory over Hamilton Academical
The Bairns had to come from behind against their relegated visitors to seal their return to the top flight after 15 years
Livingston's failure to defeat Partick Thistle eased Falkirk's passage, as the league leaders held off a late surge from David Martindale's side in style thanks to an Ethan Ross double and a fine Calvin Miller strike.
"First day back we said 'Ipswich'," McGlynn told BBC Scotland. "They've just gone back-to-back, can we do it?
"It's not something you say publicly. But reality is reality and the start we got, the spirit we have... I'm just delighted for everyone at the football club."
Despite dropping eight of the previous nine points available, Falkirk's destiny remained in their hands, albeit the journey over the line proved far more nerve-wracking than anticipated given the lead they once held in the table.
An early goal was sought and delivered - by Hamilton.
Home goalkeeper Nicky Hogarth saved from Nikolay Todorov, but captain and former Livingston forward Scott Robinson was alert and seized on the chance to tap home and stun the home crowd.
This Championship tends to deliver drama and the final day was always going to follow that script.
It was the last thing Falkirk needed and a huge psychological blow. At that stage, Livingston had assumed pole position in the title race by a point, having had almost no chance just weeks ago.
If Falkirk were to win this title, it was time to respond. They ultimately did so in style.
They upped the pressure but could not breech their opponents until Scott Arfield was felled on the edge of the box.
Ross struck, seemed to outfox Dean Lyness in goal and the ball flew home centrally, to the overwhelming delight of the home crowd.
Soon after, news filtered through that Livingston had fallen behind to Partick Thistle and the pendulum swung firmly in Falkirk's favour, never to return.
The crucial second arrived when the ball bounced dangerously around the box and Ross was alert to smash home from close range to put the title win within grasp.
When Miller gathered on the left, jinked and thumped home into the corner, all their dreams came true.
It has been a remarkable journey for McGlynn's squad from League 1 to the Premiership, where they will take their place at the top table next season.
In the build-up, the enormity of this match was not lost on McGlynn and the experienced Arfield, who returned to the club in February.
Both referenced this moment as potentially transformational for Falkirk in almost every way imaginable.
The manager suggested the sky being the limit if they achieved this, even going so far as citing European football as an aim.
Arfield cited his experience of relegation with Falkirk 15 years ago as the exact reason he came back to the club to "right that wrong."
Mission accomplished. What a personal moment for him and, for the club, is this monumental?
They will face challenges as they prepare for the Premiership. McGlynn's guidance has brought admirers and the flair within this squad will no doubt have equally impressed.
They will not care a jot about any of that right now. They got there in the end and this achievement will last long in the memory of these supporters.

Scottish Championship: Falkirk v Hamilton Academical
Scott Arfield says securing the Scottish Championship title and returning Falkirk to the Premiership would be the "most fulfilled and content" feeling he has had in his career and atone for his part in relegation during his first spell at the club
John McGlynn's side know victory over Hamilton Academical at home in Friday's final fixture will almost certainly deliver promotion given their superior goal difference over Livingston
who are now level on points as they host Partick Thistle
It was the pain of demotion early in his career that was Arfield's motivation for his return to the club

Should Falkirk start banging the goals in against relegated Hamilton Academical
the ignition will fire and the silverware will start the journey north
A win of any kind for Falkirk at home to the beleaguered Accies will almost certainly be enough to ensure the Bairns are crowned champions given their superior goal difference
had publicly conceded the title to John McGlynn's side
another stumble from Falkirk – they have lost their latest two matches – and the route for the trophy will potentially change to West Lothian
Should Falkirk lose or draw to Hamilton then suddenly the door is open for a Livingston title win if Martindale's side secure a fifth consecutive victory by beating visitors Partick Thistle
Defeating the fourth-placed Jags will be easier said than done
It was only last week – in front of the Sportscene cameras – that Thistle inflicted a 2-1 defeat on Falkirk
with the winning goal coming in the 98th minute
Just another electrifying twist in a division where drama is the regular currency
they will each finish the season on 73 points
Falkirk have the big advantage of +37 compared to +29 for Livingston
Livingston would need to pound Thistle into the stone age for goal difference to be a factor
This scenario is even less likely given the fact Thistle are not only supporting actors in this end-of-season blockbuster
they have their own significant plot at play
Raith Rovers or Partick Thistle will occupy fourth spot and a play-off place
The Glasgow side sit in the final play-off place – on 52 points – and a victory over Livingston would seal the deal
would leave the door ajar for Raith Rovers – on 50 points – to leapfrog them into a Premiership play-off quarter-final against third-top Ayr United
Barry Robson's side are away to Queen's Park
who are third bottom but safe from relegation
A draw for Thistle should also be enough for the Glasgow side given they have a goal difference of +4 compared to Rovers' zero
this margin is not altogether insurmountable
If the Kirkcaldy side can whip themselves into a goal frenzy at the national stadium against a Queen's Park side who are without a win in 11 matches
If Thistle were to draw and Rovers were to win 4-0 then the Fifers would finish fourth
The goal difference between the sides would be the same
so it would go down to which side had scored the most goals over the course of the season - and that would be Rovers
the only way Thistle could draw and still remain fourth is if they somehow managed to score more than Rovers on the night
In the admittedly highly unlikely event that Thistle and Rovers do finish level on points
goal difference and goals scored then it would come down to the points tally in the four matches between the sides over the course of this season
That would result in Rovers finishing fourth in the table as they have amassed eight compared to two for Partick Thistle
We are getting into the minutiae of extreme improbabilities now
but in the notoriously unpredictable Championship
confirmed after their appeal was dismissed on Thursday
has drawn the sting from the relegation battle
Accies are in a malaise and League 1 is their destiny after a 15-point deduction left them eight points adrift at the bottom
when they would have otherwise been safe in seventh place
Second-bottom Airdrieonians – who had looked doomed for the majority of this season until a run of only four defeats in 16 since the turn of the year – will have a second chance at Championship life next season if they manage to see off their play-off adversaries from League 1
Alloa Athletic and Stenhousemuir all with the potential to finish fourth in the third tier and face the Diamonds in the semi-finals going into their final games on Saturday

David Martindale's Livingston have lost just five matches in the Scottish Championship this season
Livingston manager David Martindale believes Falkirk are capable of dropping points again on Friday
with his side ready to pounce as the Scottish Championship title race reaches its conclusion
Falkirk have led the table for most of the season but have picked up just one point from their past three fixtures
John McGlynn's side have 70 points from their 35 matches and will win the league and promotion with a win over Hamilton Academical on the final day of the regular league season
Livingston host Partick Thistle at the same time and Martindale says his own team's form earlier this season is evidence Falkirk's wobble could continue
"If you'd said to me Falkirk are going to lose two games back-to-back
I probably wouldn't have seen that coming," he said
they need to lose three games back-to-back

Title-chasing Falkirk stunned by 97th-minute Partick Thistle winner
Livingston beat Hamilton to set up epic Championship finale
Martindale says he will be ready for all permutations come Friday evening
Opponents Thistle know a win would secure the final promotion play-off spot
while a point is likely to be enough even if fifth-placed Raith Rovers win at Queen's Park
"I think there's going to be a lot going on in the game," Martindale said
"You're going to have the Livingston fans keeping you up to date in the Falkirk game
and we're going to be looking at that also
"I'll go into the game with a plan for the game
but there's also going to be an in-game strategy
depending on what's happening elsewhere
"You're then going to have the Partick Thistle fans
telling the Partick players and the Partick staff the Raith Rovers result
"There's a lot of different variables that can happen throughout the game
but that's testament to the Scottish Championship."

The honour recognises over 160 years of service to the local community and beyond
A ceremonial procession took place on Saturday 26 April 2025
from Falkirk High street and ending at Callendar Park where the formal presentation was made by Provost Robert Bissett
The Freedom of Falkirk is the highest honour the Council can bestow
reserved for individuals and organisations who have given exceptional service.
Founded in 1863 under the leadership of James Simpson
the Free Colliers emerged at a time when miners faced harsh conditions
with no national union to defend their rights
Speaking out against low pay or poor conditions often resulted in dismissal and eviction
the Free Colliers were established to protect miners and their families
adopting the name of William Wallace as a symbol of their commitment to justice and freedom
The Free Colliers continue to serve their community through charitable work and by preserving the traditions of Scotland’s mining heritage
Their annual march each August through the Braes villages remains a significant event
reminding all who attend of past struggles and the ongoing need to stand against injustice
The Free Colliers have also been central in commemorating the Redding Pit Disaster of 1923
Their efforts led to the creation of a lasting memorial
ensuring that the sacrifices of those miners
The Free Colliers represent the very best of our community spirit standing up for justice
and preserving the memory of our shared history
they have embodied values that continue to resonate today: courage
solidarity and an unwavering commitment to fairness
"Their origins lie in a time when speaking out could cost a man his livelihood and his home
yet they chose to defend not only themselves but their entire community
That legacy of resilience and service has never faded
From their charitable work to their role in keeping the stories and sacrifices of our mining communities alive
the Free Colliers have been a constant source of inspiration
we are not only honouring their past but also recognising the vital role they continue to play today
It is a privilege to present this honour on behalf of the people of Falkirk

He did not allude to the pain inflicted by a Championship play-off scudding in 2023 when Airdrie went five goals up in the first half of the second leg
eventually winning 6-2 and confining Falkirk to another season in the third tier of Scottish football
remarked post-match that McGlynn was a man who brooded over failure with more dedication than he celebrated success
‘It was a one-game shoot-out and we came out on top,’ he said of the title battle with Livingston that went to the final fixture

McGlynn said: ‘We have been quietly going about things in the background

If we had gone into the play-off it would have been more difficult
Now we know what is in front of us and it is up to us to bring in players who can complement these players and take us a little stage further.’
Ethan Ross scores to put Falkirk ahead for the first time against their relegated visitors
There is a storied history to Falkirk and it does involve celebratory pitch invasions
‘It is one of my earliest football memories,’ said Neil White
‘It was 1986 and I was 10 and we were playing East Fife at Brockville
It was the last game of the season and we were going up
That was rare because the whole family went to games and we were very seldom in the stand
My dad could not see a way for him to get on to the pitch so he lowered me halfway down and dropped me the rest
lots of bigger people rubbing me on the head
It was incredibly exciting and I remember making my way back to the main stand and looking up at my dad and seeing how happy he was to witness it.’
The White family’s connection with Falkirk remains strong
is club historian and both have a grasp of what the club means to individuals and the community
‘I didn’t go on the park last night,’ said Neil
‘I was there with my boy and my mum and dad
He was not surprised by the explosion of emotion
There was no connection between the fans and the team
Calvin Miller has an inflatable trophy on hand for immediate celebrations on the final whistle
‘McGlynn has stuck by his team for two years

The players feel they know us and we know them.’
as Friday night turned to Saturday morning
the players entered the fans’ bar at the Kevin McAllister stand
Old and young supporters embraced their heroes
These scenes were taking place just yards from where the ultras had loudly enhanced a wonderful atmosphere
‘This is my town and this is my club,’ one of those youngsters told me
It’s obviously great on nights like this but we are all together
But his experience allows him to place Friday night’s events in a context
‘It brought joy for a night and is important because many people are enduring tough times,’ he said
‘The golden era for the club was just before the First World War when there was a thriving iron industry and the coal fields
‘Grangemouth is a good example of a town on its knees
Losing the refinery was the final straw.’ He praised the club for its ability to connect with the fans and added: ‘For anyone under 50
this is the undoubted highlight of their life as a fan.’
Scott Arfield is looking ahead to a fairytale season in the top flight with his boyhood club
who has led his tribe into the promised land
so did the last-day tension make it all the sweeter
We created a lot of hurt by dropping points
but it means we savour tonight even more so.’

Watch the highlights as Partick Thistle strike a dramatic late winner against league-leaders Falkirk
Livingston need to avoid defeat at Hamilton Academical on Saturday to take the Scottish Championship title race to the final weekend after leaders Falkirk were stunned by a stoppage-time goal away to Partick Thistle.
Terry Ablade headed home in the 97th minute to spark jubilant scenes in the stands that spilled onto the Firhill pitch.
For the third game running, John McGlynn's side stumbled in their pursuit of sealing back-to-back league crowns and promotion to the Scottish Premiership after a 15-year absence.
Their lead stays at three points but they do enjoy a far superior goal difference to Livingston.
And the night could hardly have got off to a worse start for the visitors.
Thistle winger Aidan Fitzpatrick pounced on defender Tom Lang's heavy touch inside his own box to set up Brian Graham for a close range finish on six minutes.
That wasn't in the script for the Bairns, who were backed by nearly 2,000 travelling supporters, desperate to see their side return to the top flight.
They were boosted when Thistle midfielder Stuart Bannigan, already on a yellow card, collided with Dylan Tait and was dismissed by referee Matthew MacDermid.
It appeared only a matter of time until Falkirk made their numerical advantage count and Scott Arfield - who scored a hat-trick against Thistle in February - did just that, finding the bottom corner after a clever lay-off from Ross MacIver.
After that sweet strike, only an away win seemed likely, but the visitors struggled to create chances as readily in the second half against a compact Thistle backline.
Striker Alfredo Agyeman was brought on by McGlynn in search of a late winner, but lunged in on Robbie Crawford having only been on for a couple of minutes and was shown red.
With both sides now playing the closing stages with 10 players, Thistle found a second wind and substitute Ablade stayed calm to score just his second goal for the club.
Thistle are now three points clear of Raith Rovers - who host Morton on Saturday - in the hunt for the final play-off spot.
Thistle striker and interim co-manager Brian Graham: "It's the best league in Scotland by a mile, because it's so competitive. To win it in that fashion was incredible.
"The game changes when you go down to 10. The players in the second half, we asked them to be so compact and they did that.
"As soon as they went down to 10, we go 4-3-2 and go to try win the game. I'm delighted for Terry. We deserved the rub of the green tonight. It's a massive three points."
Falkirk manager John McGlynn: "We didn't defend a free-kick that comes into the box. It's something that's cropped up throughout the season. Late goals are a common theme right now.
"At 11 v 11 we were by far the better team. We probably should go in ahead at half-time and the second half they made it very difficult.
"It's never a red card [for Agyeman]. He wins the ball fair and square.
"It's a one-game shootout. We'll dust ourselves down and we've got one last chance if we want to avoid the play-offs. We need to play for 90 minutes.
"I wouldn't be normal if you weren't nervous at this point of the season."

PLENTY of football players have pop songs turned into chants in their honour by fans
But not so many of those players then receive a message from the original singer of the pop song
And the former Rangers star had a special surprise lined up for him by the SPFL in the aftermath
Arfield was shown a recorded message of Whigfield
the 1994 hit which is the tune his famous chant is sung to
The clip shows the popstar reciting the chant
with the Canadian watching on in disbelief
Arfield says as he watches: "Oh my god, you can't be serious!"
She continues: "Hi, this is Whigfield, and I just wanted to congratulate Falkirk on being promoted back to the William Hill Premiership.
"I hope Scott and everybody else at the club are going to have an amazing night.
Arfield was unable to keep the grin off his face
that's one of the best things I've ever seen
Meanwhile, Bairns boss John McGlynn says he WON'T be invited to the squad's post-promotion party
He's masterminded back-to-back promotions and Falkirk are back in the top flight for the first time since 2010
McGlynn said: "It’s an amazing feeling - different class
"It was great to celebrate with the players in the dressing room because you never get these moments back
