Local residents and climate activists blocked Farnborough Airport this week to protest against the proposed expansion of the airport which will almost double the number of private jet flights to 70,000 a year
in a move which blatantly ignores the climate crisis
Scores of activists are blockading the main entrance to the airport with banners proclaiming “FLYING TO EXTINCTION” “PRIVATE FLIGHTS = PUBLIC DEATHS” “STOP PRIVATE FLIGHTS” “PRIVATE FLIGHTS COST THE EARTH” “QUAKERS FOR CLIMATE JUSTICE” and “CLIMATE EMERGENCY”
Protestors are releasing colourful smoke flares
chanting slogans and engaging with members of the public
whilst accompanied by the XR Rebel Rhythms band of drummers
The demonstration includes campaigners from Extinction Rebellion (XR) Waverley and Borders
who have joined forces with Farnborough Noise campaign group
The protest follows a consultation period on Farnborough Airport’s expansion plans which ended on 18 October 2024
The plans have drawn fierce opposition from local residents and environmental campaigners
Rushmoor Borough Council has yet to make a decision on the proposed increase in flights
The proposals include doubling the airport’s annual weekend flight limit from 8,900 to 18,900 flights and upping its annual flight limit by 71% from 50,000 to 70,000 flights
The 33,120 private flights to and from Farnborough Airport last year carried an average of just 2.5 passengers per flight
with each passenger responsible for the emission of nine times as much carbon as an economy flight to the US and 20 times that to Spain
Currently 40% of flights to and from the airport are empty
For the limited benefit it provides to a small number of people
private aviation has a disproportionately large impact on climate change due to its high carbon emissions
flying in a private jet is the most inefficient and most carbon-intensive mode of transport
It epitomises the worst of climate injustice
where a few people emit large amounts of carbon for the sake of a journey that can be taken by a scheduled flight or
Private jets are 10 times more carbon intensive than a normal airliner and 50 times worse than trains
with a four-hour private flight emitting as much as the average person does in a year
according to research by environmental campaign group Transport & Environment
At a time when we must drastically reduce our carbon emissions and dependence on fossil fuels
Macquarie is blatantly ignoring the science and is complicit in the unfolding climate crisis
Environment Portfolio Holder for Waverley Borough Council
said: “Aviation has no realistic prospect of becoming sustainable in the near future
so any form of airport expansion is unacceptable
Expansion at Farnborough is particularly iniquitous because of the impact on the locality nearby and the massive carbon footprint of the privileged few who choose to travel by private jet.”
said: “It’s unacceptable that a tiny number of very wealthy people award themselves the right to fly in private jets
emitting huge amounts of carbon and destroying the peace and well-being of people who live under flight paths
The lie put out in support of expansion plans is that more flying is good for business and economic growth
The reality is that Farnborough airport’s busiest day of the week is Sunday – very rich individuals are putting their desire for luxurious recreation and prestige above the real needs of ordinary people.”
added: “I am going to Farnborough airport to join a protest against the plans for expansion which are going to be considered by Rushmoor Council later this year.“More flights use more fuel and produce more emissions
and private jets do so at a rate 30-40 times that of a commercial flight per passenger mile
Burning fossil fuel is contributing massively to the steady global rise in temperatures and climate breakdown
The proposal to expand Farnborough is also deeply concerning to me in its inequality as the super-rich 1% burned through their “share” of the annual carbon budget within the first 10 days of this year
commented: “I was on a campervan holiday in Valencia on the night of the storm
My ‘holiday snaps’ didn’t need to go into a camera as they are etched into my memory forever
Excessive warming of the Med was the cause and it is due to high carbon emissions
We need to stop ALL AIRPORT EXPANSION and start listening to the experts
holiday and airport companies want us to ignore worsening climate change and to continue to make things worse
I would implore you to join us to campaign against private flights at Farnborough Airport
join Extinction Rebellion or any other climate change campaign groups that you can
and we will indeed realise what we have lost

Adigun and Klass all on target in dominant win
after a goalless first half in what was a scrappy
after Jayden Davis opened the scoring Borough didn’t look back
Jason Adigun and Michael Klass all also on target in a 4-0 win
The three points moves the Sports within two of top spot with six games to go – and Adam Murray’s side extended their unbeaten run to seven in the National League South after being buoyed on by a crowd of 1,568
Murray named the same starting line-up which won at Aveley last weekend
Moussa Diarra and Klass all returned to the bench after spells on the sideline
Borough started on the front foot – with Adigun’s early driven corner picking out the run of Davis
but unmarked he couldn’t connect ten yards out
but his strike from 25 yards out fizzed narrowly over after good work from Kai Innocent
the Sports went even closer when Dominic Odusanya played a great ball over the top to set Innocent away down the left
but his drive was turned around the near post by Jack Turner
Farnborough then went close themselves as they threatened for the first time – but neither Joe Haigh nor Ollie Robinson could get their efforts on target
the Sports were getting frustrated as the visitors looked to manage the clock with slow restarts of play
they nearly got the breakthrough after the half hour mark – but Turner was off his line well to save at the feet of George Alexander with the forward looking to run on to Yahaya Bamba’s low ball through
Adigun then stung the palms of Turner’s gloves with an effort from outside the area
before Alexander pulled a shot wide from 18 yards out as the first half came to its conclusion
Borough started the second half on the front foot – and were knocking firmly on the door when Adigun’s corner eventually dropped to the feet of Odusanya at the far post
but the midfielder saw his low drive well saved by the outstretched leg of Turner
the Sports got the breakthrough on 54 minutes
Alexander spun away from Robinson and broke through on goal
before showing unselfishness to cut the ball across to Davis who fired his first-time effort beyond Turner
Having been patient to get the breakthrough
Borough doubled their advantage ten minutes later
Courtney Clarke cut inside from the right and on his left foot
curled a low strike beyond Turner and into the bottom corner from outside the penalty area
It was only Clarke’s second goal for the Sports – but one worth waiting for
The Sports at this point were a free-flowing attacking machine
and wasted no time in extending their lead
Adigun and Alexander’s link up play was evident once again
with Adigun playing a give-and-go with the Borough forward to break through on goal
he was tripped by the visiting keeper – but the ball still rolled into the net to make it 3-0
Barry and Klass were introduced with 15 minutes to go
and the latter completed the scoring on 83 minutes
Davis did well on the left hand side and his low cross in eventually made its way to Klass at the far post
and with his back to goal he back-heeled the ball in from inside six yards
and with results elsewhere the Sports close the gap on top of the table Worthing with six games to go

Full-time: Farnborough 3-4 Chelmsford City
Kane Crichlow’s electric individual performance helped Chelmsford City earn a 4-3 away win against Farnborough in the National League South
Crichlow’s first half brace contributed to sending City down the tunnel at half-time with a 3-2 lead
while the Bermudian’s 62nd minute goal put the Clarets 4-2 up and rounded off his hat trick
Spencer Day’s Farnborough side had hopes of mounting a late comeback when Jonny Stuttle netted a penalty to narrow the Chelmsford City lead
but Robbie Simpson’s side held firm to earn their first away win of 2025
Simpson handed Ipswich Town loanee Nico Valentine his first start in a Chelmsford City shirt
and the winger’s inclusion in the side marked one of two changes to the team that started last time out at Bath City
Jazzi Barnum-Bobb was included from the beginning after being an unused substitute at Twerton Park
Proceedings at the Saunders Community Transport Stadium started frantically as both sides scored inside the opening 15 minutes
Farnborough took the lead in the 7th minute
Reggie Young cut inside from the right and rolled the ball into Joe Haigh
who fired a shot that Ted Collins got a hand to but couldn’t keep out
with the ball trickling over the line to put the hosts in front
Chelmsford City responded quickly and found an equaliser just six minutes later
A clever flick from Jake Hyde found Valentine in space down the right
and his accurate cross found Crichlow in space at the back post
Crichlow remained composed and slotted the ball past Farnborough keeper Jack Turner to restore parity
City were in control for the majority of the first half and added two more goals to their tally before the break
a free kick from Collins was flicked on by Hyde into the path of Crichlow
who made no mistake and scored a clinical volley to make it 2-1
The Clarets then struck again in the 45th minute
Another cross from Valentine caused confusion in the Farnborough box
with both Jazzi Barnum-Bobb and Hyde challenging for it
before the ball eventually found its way into the back of the net following a poor clearance attempt by the Farnborough defence and goalkeeper Turner
There was still time for more drama to unfold before half-time
when Farnborough scored their second goal of the game
an underhit backpass from Barnum-Bobb was intercepted by Stuttle
who rounded Collins and rolled the ball into the empty net to make it 3-2
giving Farnborough something to play for ahead of the second period
The second half saw Chelmsford City continue to threaten
a well-worked move saw Charlie Ruff square the ball to Archie Tamplin on the edge of the box
but his powerful shot was tipped over the crossbar by Turner
After a crucial interception in midfield by Tamplin
City broke forward quickly and Hyde played a perfectly timed ball behind the Farnborough backline
who finished confidently from inside the penalty area to complete his hat-trick and make it 4-2
Farnborough refused to give in and earned another chance to get back into the game in the 78th minute
City defender Harry Barbrook was adjudged to have brought down Stuttle inside the box
Stuttle stepped up to take the spot-kick and blasted it into the roof of the net
sending Collins the wrong way to make it 4-3
Chelmsford City held firm in nervy six minutes of added time
Crichlow played a ball through to substitute Finley Wilkinson
but the Barnet loanee’s chipped shot went over the crossbar
After securing their first win of the month
the Clarets will make a swift return to action in just over 48 hours’ time when they host Hemel Hempstead Town at the EMJ Community Stadium

City will look to maintain their strong finish to the 2024/25 campaign when they travel to Hampshire to face Farnborough on Good Friday
The late late Jordan Tillson goal against Dorking Wanderers last Saturday ensured the Romans were mathematically assured of a National League South place next season and a victory over Farnborough could see them climb into the top half of the table for the first time this season
Spencer Day’s side come into the game on the back of a 2-1 defeat against Chesham United
but they will no doubt be equally keen to finish the season positively and secure a top 10 placing
The New Years Day meeting at Twerton Park was settled by a stunning Scott Wilson strike
giving manager Darren Way victory in his first home game in charge

Kick off a big Easter Weekend of Romans action
Worthing were frustrated as they fell to a second defeat in three matches at home to Farnborough
the sort of night that just exudes football
Farnborough didn’t so much swamp Worthing as frustrate at every conceivable opportunity
A masterclass in how to beat a Chris Agutter side
Danny Cashman was a rare absentee from the line-up here after showing signs of discomfort on Saturday
a rare night where things just didn’t come off
It was almost a carbon copy of the reverse fixture
Farnborough are a young and hungry side who fight for every ball
On their travels they are one of the division’s worst – two wins both in the form of 2-1s
But with recent draws at Truro and then Dorking
this is clearly a side who are channeling a similar energy that led them to early season success
The recent arrival of Jonny Stuttle has helped galvanise a previously faltering forward line
He’d slam home the second after Worthing failed to clear
after Ollie Robinson had caressed them ahead with an easy action nine minutes earlier
Farnborough were as ferocious as Worthing were woozy
Robinson couldn’t believe how much time he had at the back post to poke the ball over the line
will have been mightily chuffed to see the ball drop perfectly onto his sweet right foot after Worthing’s attempts of getting rid of the football ended in a comedy sketch
Sandwiched in between all of this was a Worthing goal
Over the course of the opening half they probably deserved to ruin Jack Turner’s hopes of a second clean sheet on the road this season
Mo Faal was a standout performer for the Reds in a torrid opening period
and it was his finish on 13 minutes that helped ease the pain
Worthing had a few good moments in the half but this was the most delicately crafted
and it spawned Faal’s 18th on the campaign
Ruben Carvalho was the genesis of this leveller
breezing beyond Luciano D’Auria-Henry before placing a pinpoint pass into the feet of Faal
ghosting into space and placing his shot the wrong-side of Turner
It could have been 3-1 moments after Farnborough restored their lead
Joe Cook might not be the speediest of centre-halves but his positioning was exceptional
was one reason why this one wasn’t over at the half-time whistle
Worthing finished the half the strongest — Tommy Willard denied by a few last-ditch blocks and Faal whistling one past the post — yet this was a half governed and commandeered by those in yellow
There were groans when Morgan Conn blew his whistle for the break
it hadn’t been the finest Worthing performance in recent times
Not only has every game been played at full-throttle
But things are rarely straightforward for this side
It took some time for Worthing to get going in the second half
There were a few scares: Covolan dribbling through the Farnborough frontline was perhaps the pick of the bunch
But soon enough they began to hit their stride
Nash came within a strand of hair of connecting to a superb Willard cross
and then within a lick of white paint as he crashed an effort against the outside of the post
They’re the ones you just want another bite at
Farnborough continued to frustrate and squeeze every Worthing player on the pitch
hoping to provide the answer on a night that just slipped further away from their grasp
inflicting further fear into Turner’s mind but the ‘keeper dealt with the shots from distance with relative comfort
Farnborough did just about everything to achieve an impressive league double over Worthing – the first team to do this all season
In the end the small pocket of travelling supporters are overwhelmed with joy
This is their best result in an otherwise underwhelming season
casually checking the table with one hand over the eyes
Teams around collect points as the cycle presses on
No one really knows what’s going to happen come the end of April

the growing potential of the global space sector was clear to see at the Farnborough International Space Show
the 2025 Farnborough International Space Show took place on 19-20 March against the backdrop of geo-political uncertainties playing into the wider concerns about the role space will play in this rapidly changing environment
The first keynote was delivered by ADS Group CEO Kevin Craven who underlined the importance of the sector to the UK’s economy
CEO of ADS Kevin Craven addresses delegates on the opening day
the numbers Craven provided speak for themselves with the space sector projected to be worth £1trillion by 2035
while generating 50,000 well-paid jobs across the UK supply chain
Addressing attendees on the opening day of the show
UK Industry Minister Sarah Jones announced that German company OHB has opened a new subsidiary in the UK
located at the Bristol and Bath Science Park
creating up to 50 jobs developing satellites and spacecraft technologies
there were several examples of UK companies aiming to take advantage of the many commercial opportunities space has to offer
a Cardiff-based start-up which has recently acquired a licence from the CAA for manufacturing key materials in space
This comes ahead of the first example of its ForgeStar 1 satellite being launched later this year
Displayed on its stand was a rotating hologram of the company’s heat shield which will be used when payloads
alloys and semi-conductors which can only be manufactured in space due to the microgravity environment
Space Solar was exhibiting a satellite designed to beam power from the sun down to earth around the clock
Present at the show was a model of Rolls-Royce’s micro nuclear reactor
which the company is proposing to deploy to provide power for any long-term settlements that are established on the Lunar surface
Another exhibitor in the business of creating power in space
which had a model of its innovative power generation satellite on display
When sunlight passes into this corkscrew like device
it is reflected onto a solar panel further down its structure
which in turn is then converted into microwaves
These are then beamed down to Earth in the form of radio waves and make contact with ground stations (positioned either on land or on floating arrays at sea) which then convert them into electricity
the company claims this will enable allow solar energy to be harnessed around the clock at an affordable price due to the satellites being assembled by autonomous robots in orbit
Although technologies such as this – and the wider use of space to improve life on earth – have massive potential
A panel titled ‘Advancing PNT and Secure Communications – Overcoming Challenges and Meeting Future Needs’
One way of ensuring resilience for satellite GPS systems was presented by Martin Rumens
Head of Products and Solutions Secure Communications at Babcock International Group
who discussed the long range aid to navigation (LORAN)
a “terrestrial radio based system that was developed back in the late 1940s and early 1950s as a aid to navigation for ships and aircraft.” The current “enhanced LORAN”
so called due to through using improved clock quality and a data channel to carry auxiliary information
is not only more accurate but can penetrate environments such as dense jungles and crowded cities that GPS cannot
Described by Rumens as “a terrestrial GPS backup ready to go in a box”
with the panel going on to discuss the growing risk of space debris and particularly a Kessler Event where two satellites collide
producing more debris which itself enhances the risk further
B2Space displayed its 'NetZeRocket' which is powered by sustainable fuels
Demand for satellites and their services continues to rise needing more launches
although the wait for the first vertical one from UK soil goes on
the UK Space Agency would not confirm which of the UK’s various space firms would have this honour later in the year
there was no shortage of exhibitors offering their launch solutions
South Wales-based B2Space – a major line of business for whom is High-Altitude Pseudo Satellites (HAPS) that have the potential to bridge the gap between UAVs in the Earth’s atmosphere and satellites in orbit
The company carries its HAPS below a balloon
which itself is launched from either land or sea
and it is also now developing a concept to offer customers the opportunity to launch satellites from below the balloon
Another project exhibited by the company was a hybrid rocket that is driven using biofuels sourced from Wales under the Welsh Government funded ‘NetZeRocket’ programme
later this year at a testing facility in Snowdonia
As different regions have attempted to cash in on the space boom
several geographic localities hosted stands at the show
with one of the most prominent being Spaceport Cornwall
Visible on its stand was a model of Space Engine Systems’ Hello 1
a proposed spaceplane which will initially be used for transporting payloads into LEO before moving onto space tourists at a later date
a craft with the capability to transfer payloads beyond LEO to the Lunar surface
The nature of spaceports was the subject of another panel at the event with discussions on these key pieces of infrastructure
and this Starts with Launch Pad Systems’ panel underlined how many people misunderstand what a spaceport is and the potential they have for the locations they inhabit
Co-Founder and Technical Director of spaceport consultancy Fire Arrow
Managing Director of the Aviation Logistics Network
The two day show concluded having had 5,252 visitors seeing 220 speakers and 130 exhibitors
Despite all the economic and technical factors to consider
delegates were reminded of one fundamental fact – the human dimension of space exploration
This was because the event took place just hours after ‘Butch’ Wilmore and ‘Suni’ Williams returned from their marathon stay on the International Space Station
This long running event underlined the continued risk and remaining mystique around space exploration
showing its enduring ability to capture the imagination
Deputy CEO and Chief Delivery Officer for UK Space Agency put it
“The human aspect of spaceflight still has the ability to inspire.”

Farnborough Airport in Hampshire has completed a £2 million rooftop solar PV project courtesy of solar installer Solivus
the system will be capable of generating over 1.2GWh of renewable energy per year and supply up to 25% of the airport’s annual electricity needs
The installation will also facilitate the growing fleet of electric vehicles (EVs) at the airport by supplying green energy
Around 75% of the annual solar generation will be used on-site
with the remaining 25% to be sold back to the energy supplier
Solivus started construction on the rooftop solar PV system in January 2024 and has since installed 4,000 lightweight solar modules on hangars one and two
the Solvus solar PV modules have lower glare characteristics to ensure they do not impact pilots’ landings
hailed the Farnborough Airport rooftop solar PV development
outlining that commercial buildings have often been constrained by structural limitations whilst also encouraging other airports to explore rooftop solar PV
“We are proud to have worked with Farnborough Airport to ensure the future supply of renewable energy
supporting the airport’s progressive net zero emissions journey
We encourage other airports to seize the opportunity to benefit from our lightweight solar energy installations and advance their own sustainability initiative,” Parker-Swift said
UK airports adhering to their chosen route to net zero emissions have often explored the use of rooftop solar PV
to match their electricity demand cost-effectively
For instance, in 2023, energy supplier SSE Energy Solutions confirmed it would explore the development of a “major solar power project” at Teesside Airport
This will aid in achieving the airport’s net zero by 2030 ambition
Up to 3MW of solar generation will be installed in the first phase of this project to meet airport and local demand. Once this has been completed
further phases could deliver 50MW of additional capacity “over the coming years”
Solar Power Portal has previously reported that solar was providing London Southend Airport with 25% of its annual energy consumption to reduce its carbon footprint
In May 2023, Bristol Airport revealed that it had started work on a 2.8-acre solar PV plant which would help generate at least 16% of the airport’s direct energy needs over the year
Chelmsford City welcome National League South leaders Farnborough to Essex this weekend
The Clarets fell to defeat last Saturday against Barnet in the FA Cup fourth round qualifying but remain unbeaten in the league since late August
and will be able to move within four points of Spencer Day’s table-topping side with a win this weekend
Boro were defeated in the FA Cup at the second round qualifying stage and therefore took part in one of the six National League South fixtures that were played last weekend
Day’s men recorded a 4-1 home win over Enfield Town and registered their seventh league victory of the 24-25 campaign
extending a National League South unbeaten run of their own which stretches back to early September
Here’s all that Clarets supporters need to know ahead of a game between two of the division’s form teams…
Relive our last clash with this weekend’s opponents by watching the video below
Farnborough have enjoyed an impressive start to the 2024-25 National League South campaign
Saturday’s opponents ended their second year back in the second tier of Non-League football strongly and won 9 of their final 11 league fixtures last season
but narrowly missed out on the chance to be promoted when they finished the campaign sitting 8th in the table and one point shy of a play-off place
Spencer Day’s side have picked up where they left off last season and have won seven of their opening eleven league games since the 24-25 campaign kicked off in August
earning themselves the accolade of being league leaders ahead of this weekend’s game
A key member of Day’s squad continues to be former Claret Ricky Holmes
Holmes has showed as of late that he’s still got it
with his goal and assist in Farnborugh’s 3-1 win over Salisbury in September earning him a spot in the National League South Team of the Week
Holmes has scored four goals so far this season
building on the tally of six strikes which he registered in the 23-24 campaign
Boro duo Richard Chin and Millar Matthews-Lewis have also caught the eye of late and have earned themselves recognition in the form of being included in the National League South Team of the Week during the last month
Charlton Athletic academy graduate Chin arrived at the Saunders Transport Community Stadium in August after Boro fended off National League competition for the versatile 22-year-old’s signature
Chin has scored four goals in nine National League South appearances this season
and is second in Farnborough’s goalscoring charts to Matthews-Lewis
Luton Town academy graduate Matthews-Lewis completed a permanent move to Farnborough in July and comes into this weekend’s game in impressive form
having scored four goals in his last three appearances
Cameron James made his first competitive appearance of the season during last week’s defeat at Barnet
and will now be pushing to make his first start as Chelmsford City club captain

Farnborough International Studios is located in the south-east of England [Hampshire]
in easy reach for the creative industries being within 40 miles of London
The entire site offers over 210,000 sq ft stage space
1,000,000 sq ft unit base facilities and 3,500 parking spaces
Farnborough International Studios also sits within a high-end events space
providing extensive additional exhibition areas and locations and operated by the same team that organises the iconic Farnborough International Airshow
and runs Farnborough International Exhibition & Conference Centre
exhibitions and events were of course unable to take place
It was then that Farnborough International embraced its filming services and opportunities
pivoting to support the industry’s robust and agile response to the pandemic with Covid monitors and regular testing
and founding a new arm of its business – Farnborough International Studios
Filming took place across the campus within our internal spaces with blockbusters
from a five-month shoot for Fast and Furious: Hobbs and Shaw to a full street-build for the Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast standing set
With the subsequent increase in demand for filming
semi-permanent sound stages were built in 2021
These incredible structures offer a full gantry set up with 37.7 ft height to the reds
full three-phase electrical capability and extraction ventilation to support pyros on set.Following the success of filming throughout the site
the two dedicated sound stages were purchased by Farnborough International and so we now have a full and vibrant site for productions to take advantage of our 210,000 sq ft of shooting spaces and our extensive production offices that support projects of all sizes
it has been great for us to host a range of films and high-end TV series both in the stages and across the wider campus including Mission: Impossible – Fallout; Kraven the Hunter; Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw
We also offered Tom Cruise the opportunity to fly into Farnborough Airport
the largest business aviation airport onsite
and then to shoot Mission Impossible: Fallout with us
Hall 5 (Studio 4) we have filmed We Live In Time [a love story starring Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh that came out in early January this year]
We can support large-scale features and HETV dramas: within our sound stages we have hosted multi-million-dollar films like Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire to dramas Inside Man [BBC and Netflix] and The Devil’s Hour (Prime Video)
Non-scripted projects include Optomen’s Stacey Solomon’s Sort Your Life Out and talking heads for the most recent BBC One
Given that a number of our exhibition spaces can double as filming locations
we offer options on site that can ‘play’ airport lobbies
conference areas and high-class dining areas
In addition to our sound stages and internal filming areas
we have a huge amount of parking and external spaces
so can support multi-sized unit bases to film locally
We have supported a variety of bases from Greenland: Migration to SAS Rogue Heroes
Our private roads throughout the site can also support stunt filming and driving shoots and we have supported productions with their requirements within this field
We have seen an increase in the uptake of studio enquiries due to the new tax incentives – the most recent feature film that shot with us from August – December 2024 wouldn’t have been with us if it were not for the government’s support
We have also seen how the new government in the US has impacted enquiries in this country
We are currently within a volatile time in the filming industry and are often impacted by the UK and US economic stability
but are looking forward to the future as the tax incentives and the government’s commitment to support creative industries is implemented
We have been really proud to take advantage of the training and funding opportunities that the government has offered
In partnership with Hampshire County Council, we have already offered one skills bootcamp to support enhanced learning for those stepping up to be 3rd assistant director
and in March we will welcome a new cohort of individuals on our upcoming runners course
The launch of the Farnborough International Studio Skills Academy in partnership with All Spring Media
offers the opportunity to learn from those working in the industry with an aim for guaranteed work placements at the end of the course
Farnborough International Studios is a boutique site that offers a dedicated team to support productions from soft prep to shoot
We offer great facilities with well-appointed production spaces that can support any production team
balancing a close proximity to London with providing much more space for your money
we can offer total discretion to crew and cast that fly in for their scenes and have good links with hotels and amenities in the area to provide affordable accommodation for both high end and lower end requirements
With our vast range of internal and external spaces
we know we can support any production and are always keen to see how we can go above and beyond to support creatives within our facilities
Farnborough International has a Destination Zero commitment to becoming a leading sustainable business and studios site
operating under sustainability best practices in the aim to operate with net zero carbon emissions
We are looking to get our sustainable studios accreditation this year and have just gone in for our Albert sustainable supplier status
We currently have a large solar panel across Hall 1 which supports the site with 30% of power of our annual electricity needs
We work closely with all our productions to ensure operationally sustainable practices are offered and supported from offering charitable avenues for prop donation to ensuring waste is managed and recycled
we will always find a way to support and enhance a production’s Albert or Green Production submission
and are committed to a process of continuous exploration to provide sustainable solutions for productions that shoot with us
Over recent years Farnborough International Studios has become a proven filming hub for productions of all sizes
There are numerous additional filming locations across Hampshire
Surrey and surrounding areas are within a 15-mile radius of the studios and present diverse and adaptable options for period and contemporary properties
as well as build spaces and doubles for overseas locations
Nearby locations such as Farnborough Airport
Ascot Racecourse and McLaren Technology Centre
have been used in features such as Marvel’s Avengers
The local area is also well served with excellent accommodation
from high-end to more budget friendly options
We have also seen more of the supporting creative community and businesses setup within the area to support the growing production needs
The studios offer close links with our local filming offices and of course Creative England and working with our local authorities we are building opportunities and awareness of filming locations to support productions with their location requests to ensure they are local
more convenient to their base and with minimal travel
We look forward to welcoming a range of productions in 2025 as well as continuing to develop and invest in the site’s infrastructure and offering
With more skills bootcamps we look forward to investing in our local workforce and providing opportunities to our community whilst offering a range of local skilled workforce
we look forward to enhancing our sustainable practices as we push for our suppliers to be as sustainable as possible and develop our own sustainability strategy further
With many thanks to studio director Rachel Morrison. For more on Farnborough International Studios, click here

Worthing could close the gap to the league leaders to just one point with victory at home to Farnborough this evening
Fresh off the back of a 3-2 win against Salisbury at the weekend
Chris Agutter’s side play their first of three games in hand over the current league leaders Dorking Wanderers this evening
The Rebels also have three games in hand over Eastbourne Borough (2nd)
Since the Rebels faced Farnborough in the reverse fixture this season
they have lost just one of their 14 league matches
the team’s fantastic run has seen them challenging at the top of the table
knowing that their destiny is now very much in their own hands
Nicky Wheeler is a doubt for tonight’s match after being substituted with a knock on Saturday afternoon
Liam Nash is another who Chris Agutter will have to monitor carefully despite coming on to score a brace on Saturday
The forward has been managing a groin injury sustained in the first half at Slough
Sam Beard is one that will definitely miss out
We dropped points at their place where they were pretty solid and set up in a block and made things difficult for us
“They’ve got a lot of good players and on their day they can take points off anyone
so I think their league position is a bit false in that regard
“I’d love to get a big following down here on Tuesday night
If we can get even more supporters than we have done the last two Tuesday nights then that will give us a very good chance against a strong Farnborough side.”
since the reverse fixture back in November
Farnborough have won just three of their following 14 matches
It’s a run of form that has seen the Yellows drop outside of the playoffs
their form has seen an upward trend of late
with two of those three victories coming within their last five matches
they came from two goals behind to salvage a point against the current league leaders Dorking Wanderers
The sides have only faced each other on five occasions
with all five matches in the National League South over the last two and a half seasons
A summary of our results against today’s opponents is shown below:

It is said a week is a long time in politics but
matches to be won that can still achieve the Angels top 10 finish
Scott Wagstaff takes interim charge of the team on Saturday and he looks forward to the game with the same anticipation as he would have done wearing the captain’s armband
commenting: “These games are important and we are going to give it a good go for the last five games
I didn't expect to be in this position
but we want to carry on as a tight knit group
for a good set of fans who have supported us through thick and thin
Get behind the boys and let's hope we come off the pitch with the points on Saturday.”
are one of a group of teams in mid-table that are similarly looking towards for a top 10 finish and
For a while it looked like they might sneak in but
much like ourselves the last month brought an end to those dreams
Farnborough currently sit in eleventh place
having won more games but lost more; scored more goals but conceded more than us
Recent season’s results suggest that if you win the first game of this fixture
Two seasons ago Tonbridge did the double over Farnborough and last year they did the double over the Angels
brought one of the more memorable away trips this season as the Angels produced a near perfect performance to win the game with two goals from Sean Shields
Farnborough’s position in the table comes courtesy of their home form as only three of their 16 wins have come on their travels
They won at Chippenham Town on the opening day
Chelmsford City in October and impressively at Worthing in February
Spencer Day is one of the longest serving managers in National League South and has been in charge since 2011
He secured Conference South safety in the penultimate game of his first season
despite a five-point deduction for financial irregularities
Further punishments led to the club being relegated in successive seasons
eventually to Southern League Division One Central
but were promoted in 2017 and returned to National League South in 2022
the Farnborough manager remarked after successive defeats at Eastbourne Borough and St Albans City: “Massive apology to our fans for the first half
We managed to lose the game to one attempt on goal in the whole game which was a gift
We haven't got the quality at the moment to score goals
I've got a few who are going through the motions at the moment
I don't care that the season's over
The situation in the summer is very easy at the moment
Of the trip to the Halcyon Wealth Longmead Stadium
Day said: "It's one of the best 4Gs in the league
we’ve got players who only like to play on nice pitches.”
Jack Turner is one of the most consistent and experienced goalkeepers in the league
He signed for Farnborough in 2021 after a brief spell with Cray Wanderers
but has played against the Angels several times whilst at Slough Town
previously with Slough Town and Dorking Wanderers
He re-joined Farnborough from Dorking in October
the versatile Richard Chin is a former Charlton Athletic player who had a recent spell with Dartford
and the only former Tonbridge player in the Farnborough squad is Matty Macarthur
who had a loan spell with the Angels from Gillingham last season
is the club’s leading goalscorer with seven goals
He has scored all his goals since Christmas following a loan move from AFC Bournemouth
Admission prices for Saturday’s game are: Adults £17; Concessions £14; Youths £7 and Under-12’s free with accompanying adult with tickets available HERE
Gates open at 1 pm with the Sports Bar and Marquee Bar open from the outset with special offers of two pints of Staropramen for £8 or two pints of Salt Alpacalypse IPA for £9
hot and cold drinks and Fries Like An Angel
serving all your favourite loaded chips are also open from 1 pm
the Sports Bar will be open including the Happy Hour
with £1 off all pints of draught lagers and ciders with the special offer drinks price continuing
Saturday’s sponsors are Yeomans and we hope that club director Phil Broad and his guests enjoy their day
The final word goes to Scott Wagstaff: “I know the boys and the dressing room and I know how they work
They will run through brick walls for me and I would do the same for them
they could have just left but they felt it was important to do that
He said he appreciated all our efforts over the season
It's never nice to see the manager leave who brought you to the club and to lose all three of them is upsetting
we've all just got to get on with it and crack on for these five really important games.”

This is my first speech as Secretary of State for Science
And I would like to start by telling you why I have chosen Farnborough to make my first speech
The first reason is one that I have got from meeting so many people who are working
personal reason – when I was appointed into the Shadow Secretary of State role by Keir Starmer
I was keen as possible to get up and meet people who are working in the space sector
everyone single person I have met is dedicated to the sector in which you are working
that you go way beyond what I have seen in many other sectors
but when it’s [inaudible] they don’t come together after a certain period
It is a sector who are so incredibly passionate about the sector
about their contribution to it but also passionate about the possibilities that space has
And I have been infected by their enthusiasm and drive
The second reason is something that is personal
and quite interesting for me today because so many people have already said to me ‘Is this your first Farnborough?’
This is my fourth Farnborough and the other 3 have always been out there
but the other days of the week where the public are invited and I’ve sat with my dad and my partner at the time
My partner worked for a commercial airliner and my dad was a Royal Navy aircraft mechanic in the 1960s where he worked in [inaudible] fighter jets of the day
So my entire upbringing has been with my dad telling stories on the deck; battling in the most extreme circumstances
and trying to repair some of the aircraft of the day in extreme circumstances
Coming here with my dad and my partner for 3 Farnborough’s
sitting out there with one yabbering in my ear with every single detail of civil aviation and the other one being able to tell me the things in the sky by the sound of the engine
gives you an insight into the kind of family life and background I had running up to this moment in time
and that spirit of innovation I told you about that I detected from people who are driving from the centre
and that was represented by people around me and in my personal life
I think we bring into the mission-led approach
that are going to drive the national renewal over a decade
can happen if we stick to the tried and tested
To find the bold solutions to the problems that have dogged our country for decades
and the solutions we will face in the decades to come
I am sure that the irony of a minister standing here and talking to you about national missions
for those of you working in the space sector
But I do stand here today because there is no better example than the space sector that explains what we are trying to do as a government
the UK’s space sector is growing 4 times faster than the overall UK economy
Its workforce is twice as productive as the British average
To create opportunities for companies to start
to create the good jobs that bring prosperity to communities up and down our country
these sectors need to learn from space and space needs to lead the way
If we want to deliver better public services and better lives for the people up and down our country
Understanding the effects of our changing climate
Providing rural communities with internet access
Keeping our armed forces safe and aircraft in constant contact
they are obligations and none of them can be fulfilled without space
space-based services like satellite communications and remote sensing are the cornerstones of our national security
the systems that keep Britain safe will grind to a halt
Secure financial transactions that rely on timestamps that are accurate to the millisecond
Emergency services that depend on precise GPS data to find the people who need their help
as orbits become more congested – and contested – we must work with our NATO allies to protect our people
delivery and opportunity – they provide the beginnings of the answer
And yet none of them can quite capture what is so unique about space
No metric of growth or productivity can distil what is so breath-taking about the images taken by the James Webb telescope
Or the pioneering spirit that will propel the Rosalind Franklin rover to Mars
And it would be just as hard to measure the sense of pride I feel knowing that it was the contributions of British scientists that made these missions possible
Because the value of human knowledge is never solely defined by its ability to solve our current crises
The astronauts on board Apollo 7 could never have predicted the ways that companies like Space Forge in Cardiff could exploit the cold and uncontaminated properties of microgravity to find new cures to Alzheimer’s and cancer
to 3D print organs for transplant patients or manufacture the semiconductors that will power the digital revolution that is unfolding today
The century to come will bring new problems
we simply cannot predict the ways that each discovery in space might matter
We can only prepare by supporting the scientists and businesses with the boldness and brilliance to make them better
I’ll be meeting one of those people – I’ve already met Rosemary Coogan
who became our third ever astronaut earlier this year
I will be guided by these 4 principles – discovery and delivery
But I cannot chart a course for success in space alone
No mission can succeed without a strong team
Working closely with our international partners
I want to forge a strategic partnership with businesses
A meaningful relationship anchored not in the short-term solutions and shorter funding cycles
Because businesses don’t want a new strategy every 6 months
They need a clear signal from a government that isn’t afraid to make hard choices about where to focus our efforts
Because we know that we cannot do everything
But that makes it all the more important to invest in those technologies where we really can lead the world
I know that this strategic partnership will take time to build
So, here in Farnborough, I am announcing £33 million in funding for innovative businesses from the UK Space Agency’s National Space Innovation Programme (NSIP)
From the smallest start-ups to global giants
the recipients of the fund aren’t just creating cutting edge technologies
they want to use that technology to build a better future for Britain
SuperSharp are designing a heat-detecting telescope to gather the data that we will need to tackle the climate crisis
ETL Systems are building ground equipment that links satellites to 5G and 6G mobile networks
Orbit Fab and Lunasa are working on refuelling and docking technologies that will extend the lifespan of satellites and preserve our space environment for future generations
I’ll be travelling up to Glasgow to meet one of the winners myself
Spire Global are developing technology to supply unique weather forecasting data to global weather prediction centres
And their success in Scotland embodies the phenomenal potential of our science and tech economy
Once the shipbuilding capital of the world
Glasgow now makes more satellites than anywhere in Europe
the phrase ‘Clyde Built’ – used in previous generations to describe the incredible ships built on the banks of the Clyde – will be used for small satellites
Travel fifty miles East through the Central Belt
and you will find a unique combination of world-class universities and innovation centres that are cementing Edinburgh’s reputation as a ‘space data capital.’
that space port will host the first ever vertical satellite launch in Europe
putting Britain on the map in an increasingly competitive global market
a better future for Britain is coming into view
you can see that future very clearly indeed
People with decades of experience in aerospace and oil and gas are using their expertise to build the industries of tomorrow and create prosperity for their communities
Talented researchers in world-leading universities are developing technologies to tackle some of our toughest problems
Innovative start-ups and spinouts are taking those solutions out of the lab and into our lives
Because we have an extraordinary opportunity here
we can grow our economy and create good jobs for the future for our people
We can deliver the public services they deserve
And we can protect our country in an increasingly volatile world

As Chris Agutter's side prepare to face Farnborough in the National League South
Season 2021/22 started well for the Yellows in the Southern League Premier South
Spencer Day assembled an exciting squad with many promising signings
most notably Sam Deering and Ricky Holmes making the weekly journey from Essex to spearhead the Boro challenge
followed up with a nine-game unbeaten run in January
emphasising the desire of the squad to gain promotion
A revitalised Taunton Town came on a fantastic run which would see them hurdle both of the long-term leaders
and the race went down to the last game of the season
with any one of the three able to claim the title
Hayes & Yeading United second and Farnborough in a slightly disappointing third
Farnborough hit Metropolitan Police with a late comeback to secure their place in the Play-Off Final against season-long rivals
Farnborough’s first season back in the National League South really turned out to be one for the fans to remember
coinciding with a super FA Cup campaign which set up an exciting away tie with National League Wrexham
Despite a valiant effort against the TV stars of Non-League football
Boro finally succumbed to the strength of their squad
until settling for a comfortable and commendable 10th-place finish
just narrowly missing out on the play-off places in 8th
Since the reverse fixture back in November
Spencer Day joined Farnborough in November 2011 and oversaw a turnaround in fortunes
securing the Club’s status in the Conference South in the following three seasons
successfully gained promotion to The Southern League Premier Division in 2016/17 through the Play-Offs after finishing the season a comfortable second
After successfully navigating the COVID-19 pandemic
Day guided the team to promotion back to Step Two last season with victory in The Southern League Premier South Play-Off Final
having spent virtually all season at the top of the division
Known for his relentless work behind the scenes
furnishing the players with all they need to know about each opponent
has brought a period of stability and success to Farnborough
Defender Ollie Robinson is the club captain at Farnborough
The former Metropolitan Police Captain joined Farnborough for the start of the 2022/23 season
ahead of the Club’s return to The Vanarama National League South
Playing his Youth football at Carshalton Athletic and Kingstonian
Ollie progressed into Non-League football with Walton Casuals and Molesey Town
before spending six seasons at Metropolitan Police
where he went close to spoiling the Farnborough dream in the dramatic Southern League Premier South Play-Offs in 2022
Aaron Kuhl is a midfielder with plenty of experience at the level
having made over 100 appearances in the division for Slough Town
Combative Kuhl made the switch to Dorking Wanderers in January 2023
having spent the previous three years at the heart of the Slough Town midfield
where he racked up 67 appearances and 7 goals
Having risen up through Reading’s Academy from the age of 15
with a permanent stint at Basingstoke Town in 2019 sandwiched in between
Kuhl has England caps at Under 19 and 20 level to his name
taking to the International stage in victories over Azerbaijan and Czech Republic
He returned to Farnborough from Dorking Wanderers in October 2024
after enjoying a successful loan spell during the 2023/24 season
Mention Farnborough and most people will probably think of the area’s long aviation heritage
dating back to the pioneers of the Balloon Factory and Samuel Cody’s historic first flight in 1908 through to the world-famous air show that cemented the name of the airfield into the history books. However
during its time as home to the Royal Aircraft Establishment (RAE)
Farnborough was also one of Britain’s hotbeds of space technology
the RAE developed both the Black Knight and Black Arrow rockets
both built by Saunders-Roe and tested in Australia
with the latter used to launch the Prospero satellite in 1971

(Crown Copyright)It is therefore perhaps fitting that the UK space sector – along with an impressively strong international cadre of space companies and agencies – will be focussing its collective attention on Farnborough on 19-20 March for the 2025 Farnborough International Space Show.“Space has never been more important to our day-to-day life” explained Farnborough International CEO Gareth Rogers
If you are using maps on your phone or broadband WiFi on an airliner
There is no getting away from the fact that space is vitally important in today’s modern world.”Farnborough International first held a dedicated space show in 2021 but this year the event is the biggest yet
with 1,200 organisations from 50 countries confirmed to attend
The European Space Agency will be among the exhibitors at the event
(ESA)“One question we asked when we were pulling this event together was
what is it that the space market looking to achieve?” explained Rogers
we are focusing on creating a show for the entire ecosystem – both upstream and downstream – and one that connects government
academia and businesses both small and large
There is obviously a large emphasis on the defence sector as well right now
with the space domain becoming vitally important in an increasingly uncertain geopolitical situation
So what we have created is an event where all the players in this sector can meet and do business – from government decision makers from around the globe to the SMEs and start-ups that are creating the technologies needed to deliver the solutions.”
Farnborough Air Show's existing coverage of the space sector has been leveraged to create this dedicated event
the biennial Farnborough International Air Show has included a dedicated Space Zone for a number of year and Rogers is keen to explain that this will continue
“The Space Zone is very important at Air Show” he said
With the UK space sector now worth £18.9bn
and the international market valued at around £1.8 trillion
space is no longer just a small part of the aerospace world as it was maybe ten or 15 years ago.”Running alongside the event at Farnborough
the 40th International Symposium on Remote Sensing of Environment (ISRSE-40) will include more than 200 speakers from the likes of Rolls-Royce
the UK Space Agency and the Egyptian Space Agency
Along with 80 exhibitors across the show floor
ISRSE-40 conference sessions will “explore the synergies between emerging technologies
and global partnerships to foster a deeper understanding of Earth-system dynamics and their applications” with keynote speakers including the Rt Hon Lord Willetts FRS (Chair of the UK Space Agency) and Dr Sherif Sedky
Topics of the four-day conference will include: climate change and environmental monitoring
sustainable land and marine resource management
resilient urban and infrastructure systems
innovative earth observation (EO) technologies
interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral collaboration and EO for adaption and mitigation.“I think one of the most important aspects of the Space Show itself is that the UK government will be represented and doing business” continued Rogers
“Having a dedicated space where the sector can meet and do business matters more than anything
As an aerospace industry it is time for the space element to shine on its own
the US has its Space Force and the sector can no longer sit on the periphery of our wider industry.”
The UK government recently signed a £127m deal with Airbus to provide a new space-based imagery satellite system for military operations
The two Synthetic Aperture Radar satellites
will be able to capture day and night-time images of the Earth’s surface and are expected to launch in 2027
(Airbus)Demand for a dedicated event at Farnborough has led to the Space Show being Farnborough International’s “fastest ever launch” in terms of both exhibitors and attendees
“That tells you that the appetite is there,” added Rogers
“This is undoubtedly because of the pedigree that Farnborough International brings to the event as well as the existing supply chain and contacts that we have built through the Air Show.” “As with the other events that we run
such as Sustainable Skies and the Bahrain Air Show
