The car is believed to have hit the bus on a narrow railway bridge on Bedfont Road close to Feltham Young Offenders Institution at just before midnight
Both vehicles burst into flames and two teenagers
said the female teenager was local to the area
Two passengers in the bus, an H26 service bound for Hatton Cross, were also taken to hospital but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, the Metropolitan Police said
Other passengers were treated for injuries by paramedics at the scene
London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service also attended the incident
Firefighters sent crews from Feltham and Heston stations and the blaze was out by 1.41am on Tuesday

Influencer, podcaster and content creator Abi was diagnosed with a grade 3 oligodendroglioma in May 2024
The 36-year-old’s diagnosis came after a hard-won battle against drug and alcohol addiction
funny and relatable videos about addiction and mental health recovery
is now an Ambassador for Brain Tumour Research
raising awareness using her social platform to share the reality of living with a brain tumour diagnosis and bring much-needed hope to our community
after years of chaos backpacking around the world while trying to outrun my demons and blank out painful memories
And then I was told I had an incurable brain tumour
I put the headaches down to too much caffeine
My one last vice since getting clean and sober
I could easily get through 12 coffees a day
I was feeling really low too and a Google search showed my symptoms could be caused by caffeine withdrawal
I started having a couple of coffees again each day and the headaches went away
I was living a life I’d never thought I’d have
Working nine to five in social media marketing
and powerlifting five times a week – my passion
I’d never had migraines but now I was waking at three in the morning
This time I couldn’t put it down to caffeine withdrawal
At one GP appointment I was advised to keep a headache diary
at another given antibiotics for a suspected sinus infection and told to get an eye test in case my sight was the cause of the migraines
my vision blurred to the point that Stef had to hold my hand and guide me around
so he took me to Boots for an eye examination on 6th May
A scan showed my optic nerves were swollen and that was causing pressure in my brain
The optician sent me straight to Western Eye Hospital
But after a few hours and several tests the eye doctor said he was calling the neuro team
I knew neuro meant brain and that didn’t sound great
We were sent to A&E at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington where I had a CT scan
so they gave me a bed and said I’d get the results in the morning
The next morning brought the word tumour crashing into my life
The scan showed a mass on my brain and I was scheduled for surgery the next morning
Everything happened so fast and felt surreal
like I was watching an episode of Casualty
While in my everyday life I’m hectic as hell
in stressful situations I’m calm and level-headed
I messaged my boss to say I wouldn’t be in because I was having brain surgery
Stef helped me tell family and friends and I told my online community the news
The surgery took four hours and uncovered a cyst which was pushing on the tumour – the cause of all my pain
They drained it and took a biopsy of the tumour
“There was one thing that happened,” said my surgeon afterwards
“I dropped a bit of your skull on the floor
we picked it up and popped it back in and you’re on antibiotics to be on the safe side.”
I’ve called him Dr Butterfingers ever since
I didn’t feel sick and the crushing pain in my head was gone
I was feeling good and normality was almost within reach
I couldn’t wait to get back to work and the gym
Initial results showed my tumour was aggressive and cancerous
Dr Butterfingers would try to remove as much of the tumour as possible but they wouldn’t be able to get the whole thing
but the surgery would severely affect my left side due to the location of the tumour
But talking to Stef reminded me that I’ve been through really bad times and come out the other side
I was home two days after my second surgery on 22nd May
powerlifting with my head still in bandages
I uploaded a video to my Instagram account
documenting my journey in the hopes of helping anyone else affected by this disease
In the same way that I’d found it cathartic to share my story of recovering from addiction and mental health problems
sharing this new chapter of my life gave me purpose
I want to give people hope that there is life after a brain tumour diagnosis
the full biopsy results showed that I have a grade 3 oligodendroglioma
It’s incurable and my doctor estimates that I have 15 years left to live
There was a time that I didn’t value my life much
A difficult childhood and losing my dad to suicide had led to drinking since my teens to escape feelings of self-hatred
I drank vodka in my tea just to start the day and was plagued by suicidal thoughts
Even a failed attempt to end my life didn’t stop me
The pandemic forced me to pack up and come back to my mum’s house in Berkshire
resorting to hiding bottles behind my bed again
I stopped drinking on 1st April 2020 and never looked back
and now I have a brain tumour that threatens to steal my future
But this prognosis has given me more drive than ever to be happy
There’s so much I want to do – publish a book
spend all my time with Stef and make as much noise as I can for the brain tumour community
As an Ambassador for Brain Tumour Research
I want to share my personal story to raise awareness and fight for change
I can’t change the past and I can’t control the future
One in three people in the UK knows someone affected by a brain tumour
This disease is indiscriminate; it can affect anyone at any age
brain tumours continue to kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer yet
just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease since records began in 2002
Brain Tumour Research is determined to change this

as part of efforts to combat rising levels of violence against staff
The move comes after new figures released by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) on Thursday showed rates of assaults on staff were 14 times higher than at adult prisons
already used by police and guards in adult prisons
will be rolled out “in limited circumstances” to specialist staff at Feltham A
Werrington and Wetherby – the three public sector YOIs that hold children under 18
Staff at Feltham will receive “a really high level” of training and there will be “a very clear
high threshold” for when the spray can be used
according to a senior youth custody source
Recent incidents have left officers at YOIs with fractures
Inmates have reportedly used cutlery and screws taken from furniture as weapons
a female staff member used her body as a human shield to protect a child who was being attacked in a group assault in the courtyard
MoJ data shows Feltham had 170.0 assaults on staff per 100 children and young people last year
This compares to 182.9 at Werrington and 167.4 at Wetherby
Across the whole of the children and young persons secure estate – including other establishments such as secure children’s homes – the rate of assaults on staff was 183.6 per 100
Justice minister Sir Nic Dakin said: “This government inherited a criminal justice system in crisis
The unacceptable levels of violence faced by our brave frontline officers in young offender institutions is yet another symptom of that
“This is not a decision we have made lightly
but our overarching duty is to keep staff and young people in custody safe
This spray is a vital tool to prevent serious violence
helping staff to focus on rehabilitation as part of our Plan for Change.”
The rollout will last 12 months and be reviewed by ministers
Each use of the spray will also be assessed by an independent panel
Youth justice charity the Howard League for Penal Reform has condemned the move
said: “There is too much violence in prisons holding children
but this is a direct consequence of a failing system that keeps boys as young as 15 locked in their cells for up to 23 hours a day without meaningful access to education or social interaction
“It reflects a profound failure on the part of those responsible for children in custody that they would consider introducing weapons in the name of safety
the way to reduce violence is to close failing young offender institutions and ensure that children are accommodated in more appropriate settings - such as secure children's homes - where they can be given the care and support they need
The move was welcomed by the Prison Officers’ Association
said: “Young offenders institutions can be a very challenging environment for our members to work in
“Prison officers must be given the right PPE to protect themselves and prisoners from violence

All the Children’s Commissioner’s work is driven by what children told us is important to them
Today’s report from His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Prisons (HMIP) on conditions at Feltham Young Offenders Institution is a horrifying reminder that urgent work to make sure no child grows up in prison needs to start now
found that conditions had significantly deteriorated since the last inspection two years ago
and self-harm and levels of violence were on the rise
which holds children aged between 15 and 18 who are on remand or have been convicted
has seen incidents of disorder triple in that time
Since becoming Children’s Commissioner three years ago
I have repeatedly expressed my deep concerns about the conditions for children living in such settings – the high levels of violence are a symptom of a system that isn’t working
Feltham has repeatedly failed on safety in inspections dating back to 2014
an urgent notification process was issued by the inspectorate due to the deterioration in this area
while the details of this latest report are no less shocking
They can be seen across much of the youth estate
Robust action is not only welcome but long overdue
It’s clear we need to completely rethink how we care for all of these children
It’s vital they get the support and education they need so their long-term outcomes aren’t dictated by the experiences of their childhood
it’s essential that we help these children break the cycle of reoffending
As part of The Big Ambition
I heard from many children living in secure settings about what they wanted the government to do to make their lives better
many children expressed that they wanted further support for rehabilitation:
there should be other ways to change and help the young people of today
Jail just makes everything worse” – Young person
“You put a child behind bars for 23 hours a day and expect us to change… where’s the logic in that?” – Young person
Employing more police or making sentences longer won’t change anything
food and having basic necessities so we don’t have to sell drugs and can go (to) school and stay at home.” – Young person
I pointed out many of these concerning issues within the youth secure estate and recommended a new vision for secure care
it is my sincere hope that we rethink our approach so that these children can grow up to be happy and successful adults
who are able to contribute to society just like their peers

Police are investigating claims that HMP Feltham prison officer Katerina Tatus was part of an affair

A female prison officer has been suspended from a London jail over claims of an inappropriate relationship with an inmate
Police are investigating claims that HMP Feltham prison officer Katerina Tatus was part of an affair
The Sun reports that Ms Tatus was suspended after a staff member submitted an intelligence report
A source told the newspaper that the prison officer was “marched to the gates by security” after being accuse of “having an affair and being too close to a prisoner.”
They added that if the accusations were true she had “ruined her career”
They explained that it was unclear if the affair involved a Feltham inmate or if something had happened at another jail
The source added that the suspension had “sent shockwaves around the jail” in Hounslow in west London explaining that Ms Tatus was popular with staff and inmates
On her Facebook page – which is now deactivated – Ms Tatus posed pictures of herself holidaying and partying with friends
a follower wrote: “Prettiest one in Feltham.”
A Prison Service spokesperson told the newspaper that it would be inappropriate to comment on a live police investigation
The news comes after a guard at HMP Wandsworth who was filmed having sex with an inmate inside a prison cell was jailed for 15 months earlier this year.

If you head to Feltham in southwest London
you can see a scale model of the Rocket steam locomotive inside the railway station at the moment
It’s here as part of the railway’s 200th-anniversary celebrations taking place across the country this year
and although the Rocket locomotive wasn’t involved in the first railway from 1825
it was the one that revolutionised early railway engine design and spurred the expansion of the railways across the UK
A nearby sign notes that while the original locomotive was painted black and yellow for publicity reasons
this scale model is being kept in natural colours to better showcase the design
The formal unveiling took place on Friday 7th February
the model was funded by Hounslow Council’s neighbourhood grant scheme
with additional funding from the Hounslow and Richmond Community Rail Partnership
I’m informed that it’s in situ on a semi-permanent basis
basically until such time as someone needs to remove it for some reason
The model steam train engine is located in Feltham station’s main entrance
which is on the London-bound platform side of the station

Independent review reveals ‘vicious cycle’ of violence and staff shortages at Feltham A
An independent review of HM Youth Offender Institution Feltham A in Hounslow has revealed grim picture of violence
and chronic staff shortages at the prison
which keeps prisoners aged between 15 and 18
as being “locked in a vicious cycle” during their visit from 30 September to 9 October 2024
the review revealed that six of the nine concerns highlighted in the last inspection in March had seen little or no meaningful progress
hampering the prison’s ability to deliver safe and effective rehabilitation for its young residents
High levels of staff sickness – often stemming from violent incidents – meant children were confined to their cells for more than 21 hours a day
with some receiving fewer than two hours of time out of their cells
This lack of meaningful activity was identified as a major source of frustration
often culminating in assaults on staff and perpetuating a cycle of violence and operational strain
The closure of HMYOI Cookham Wood in May 2024 exacerbated the issues at Feltham A by increasing its population by nearly 50%
A surge in new arrivals and a greater proportion of children on remand further stretched resources
Educational and work opportunities for the young people dwindled
leaving them with little chance of personal or academic progress
The findings at Feltham A echo broader concerns raised in HM Inspectorate of Prisons’ annual review
Survey data from children in YOIs and secure training centres (STCs) across England and Wales in 2023-24 showed an alarming deterioration in youth custody conditions
More children reported feeling unsafe compared to the previous year
and fewer said they were receiving education
Inspectors noted that children spent most of their time locked in cells
with limited opportunities to address the underlying causes of their offending
Parc YOI was the only facility deemed safe by inspectors
and none were found to provide adequate education
Just half of the children surveyed felt cared for by staff
and low morale among frontline workers was compounded by fears for personal safety and chronic staffing shortages
“These reports are stark reminders of the problems in youth custody
What should be an opportunity for children to gain qualifications and address the causes of their offending is lost when they are locked behind cell doors
“Leaders in the youth custody service must focus on getting the basics right
prioritising behaviour management and giving staff the time and support to build effective relationships with the children in their care”

With nearest challengers Guildfordians going down to league leaders Staines, a bonus-point win would have stretched the gap between second and third to 11 points with three games remaining.
The hosts started sluggishly. Feltham dominated the opening quarter and the pressure told with Feltham working the ball out wide to score in the corner to make it 5-0.
After a period of sustained pressure Woking skipper Jacob Woods powered over to level up the scores before Adam Quinn kicked the extras to put the hosts in front.
Shortly after the restart Quinn added a penalty and then the Woking forwards and backs combined to recycle the ball through several phases which resulted in Quinn darting over for a converted try.
Feltham scored a converted try to keep them in touch at the break.
A defensive error allowed Feltham to take the lead before they were reduced to 14 men for a yellow card for a dangerous tackle.
Woking were unable to take advantage of the extra man and were reduced to 13 men in the space of a minute as props Joe Griggs and Alisdair Hamilton-Wilkes were shown yellow cards for off the ball incidents.
Feltham took advantage of their numerical advantage to go 26-17 up.
With the team back to full strength good pressure resulted in a third Woking try by Charlie Goddard.
With the conversion missed Woking then needlessly gave away a penalty in front of their posts which was converted to make it 29-22 to Feltham.
Woking responded with a penalty of their own, kicked by Quinn, to reduce the arrears to four points.
Woking piled the pressure on, but the Feltham defence held out.

Inspectors find some children at institution refusing family visits in order to keep relatives away from danger
A young offender institution has been identified as the most violent prison in the country
with teenage inmates refusing family visits to keep their relatives away from danger
HMYOI Feltham A in west London
registered 320 incidents of disorder in the year to March
A report released on Tuesday said prison authorities found 343 weapons during the year
Recorded rates of violence in the year leading up to March 2024 had been “higher than any other establishment in England and Wales”
a substantial increase on the 182 in the 12 months before the last inspection
The report comes as the Prison Service in England and Wales comes under intense scrutiny. On Friday the justice secretary, Shabana Mahmood, announced that thousands of prisoners would be released early from September because of an overcrowding crisis in adult jails
Inspectors found that children held in Feltham A booked fewer than half of the allocated visitor sessions to meet their relatives
some children said they did not want their families to visit because of the risk of violence breaking out in front of them,” the report said
Taylor noted that that the prison achieved “healthy” test scores in a 2022 inspection
“It was disappointing to return to find there had been a deterioration in standards
with levels of violence now the highest of any prison in the country,” he said
The inspectors visited the facility this March
were locked in their cells for too long and the provision of education was inadequate
The use of segregation was found to have increased significantly
with seven children found to have been segregated for more than 50 days and two for more 100 days
Inspectors raised concerns about children’s access to education
with the use of 266 keep-apart instructions to stop children who had fought from coming in to contact with each other
These meant that rather than being placed in lessons with children who had similar abilities and interests
boys were allocated to classes based on who they could mix with without fighting
Taylor said the immediate crisis of overcrowding in jails should begin to ease soon as long as there were no further crises in the summer
Speaking to the Guardian in London’s Pentonville prison
where he formally opened a scheme to train prisoners as bicycle mechanics
Taylor said there remained wider problems of reoffending and of many having not enough to do while serving sentences
“I hope that at least the immediate pressure that somebody sentenced to custody can’t get into custody
I think what’s encouraging is that we’ve moved away from that
or with any luck we will have assuming we get through the summer without any difficulties,” he said
A Ministry of Justice spokesperson said: “The criminal justice system is in crisis and as this report clearly shows
this is placing great strain on the youth estate
“As the chief inspector recognises in his report
the governor and frontline staff are now making every effort to drive improvements and reduce violence
But we know there is much more to do and we are committed to increasing the support these children need to turn their lives around.”

were honoured at the National Rail Awards last night
winning the Outstanding Teamwork Award for their collaboration on the Feltham to Wokingham Resignalling Programme
Network Rail and its partners completed a five-year £375m programme of work to install new state-of-the-art digital signalling technology (the railway’s traffic lights) on the line between Feltham and Wokingham
The completion of this work saw the previous 1970s signalling equipment brought up to modern standards
16 level crossings upgraded and 500 pieces of signalling equipment installed which covers 80 miles of railway across Feltham
Windsor & Eton Riverside and Wokingham
Network Rail also moved control of the signalling equipment between Feltham and Wokingham and transferred it to Basingstoke
Moving control to the ROC allows signallers to communicate more effectively with each other as they are in the same room rather than remote signal boxes and is more cost efficient to operate

In the latest inspection of the London setting incidents of disorder were found to have almost tripled and recorded rates of violence increased from 182 to 410 in 12 months
Some children were said to have stopped family visits in case violence broke out in front of their families
The inspection by HMI Prisons took place between 4 and 14 March this year and found a considerable peak in violence between summer and November 2023
Violence was found to have occurred within the education block
which led to its closure from 22 August until early September

A FEMALE guard at a trouble-plagued hit jail has been suspended over claims of an inappropriate relationship with a con
Prison officer Katerina Tatus was “marched to the gates” at HMP Feltham after the alleged affair was uncovered by an anti-corruption unit
Police are now investigating the claims
which come amid growing concerns about corruption in jails and relationship between guard and inmates
Former Wandsworth prison officer Linda de Sousa Abreu
was jailed for 15 months in January after being filmed having sex in a cell with a lag
We revealed shocking video of the romp last June
Tatus – said to have worked for the prison service for around three years – is understood to have been suspended after a staff member submitted an intelligence report
“She has been accused of having an affair and being too close to a prisoner.
“It is unclear if it was a Feltham inmate or if something happened with someone at another jail.
“It was even suggested a mobile number of hers had been used by a prisoner.
who finally found out about the allegations
“Katerina is a pretty girl and was popular with staff and inmates
“Bosses are really worried about misconduct and corruption
so are doing their best to clamp down on it
“There have been other claims of affairs and lots of find of material like phones and vapes which they fear have been smuggle in by staff
“Another officer is being investigated over that
but that investigation has not concluded.”
On her Facebook page – now deactivated – Tatus posed pictures of herself holidaying and partying with pals
a follower wrote: “Prettiest one in Feltham.”
HMP Feltham in west London operates as a prison for inmates aged 18 to 30 and a separate young offenders’ institution for under-18s
A report last year found Feltham A – the young offenders institution – had the highest levels of violence of any prison in Britain
We told in January how a teen held at Feltham for plotting a terror attack had stabbed several prison officers while he was banged up
And an inspection report on Feltham B – the adult side – last year found “concern about violence against staff”
A record number of female prison officers have been fired for romps with male lags in recent years
Twenty-nine got the boot from 2020 to 2022 compared with nine between 2017 and 2019
The most notorious recent case saw De Sousa investigate for having sex with burglar Linton Weirich in Wandsworth as another inmate filmed their romp
but handed a suspended sentence over a romance with inmate Levi Weekes at HMP Berwyn
A Prison Service spokesperson said: “It would be inappropriate to comment on a live Police investigation.”
