Fleetwood Town were involved in late drama at Valley Parade on the final day as former Fleetwood man Antoni Sarcevic netted in the 96th minute to promote Graham Alexandra’s side
Town held off the home side’s onslaught for more than an hour and a half before the former Town striker marked jubilant celebrations to end the home side’s seven year wait to return to the third tier

This is the first time Bradford City have won automatic promotion since they went up to the Premier League in 1999
Bradford City claimed a dramatic late victory over Fleetwood Town to win promotion to League One after six seasons
were destined to drop into the play-offs but Antoni Sarcevic redirected a George Lapslie shot into the bottom corner with just seconds to play
Elated home fans then streamed on to the pitch and it took over 15 minutes for the game to then be completed
with the players initially being taken off the field
The final whistle was blown shortly after they returned to the pitch to allow the celebrations to begin in earnest
They join Doncaster and Port Vale in being automatically promoted to League One
The Bantams went into the final game of the season in third
knowing that they they would go up as long as they bettered Walsall's result at Crewe
With mid-table Fleetwood having only pride to play for and Bradford boasting the best home record in the league it looked to be a mere formality
the home side were indebted to goalkeeper Sam Walker keeping out a Matty Virtue effort in the first half as the away side nearly took the lead
Calum Kavanagh's header was turned on to the crossbar at the other end before the break as Bradford looked for a goal to cool nerves both on and off the pitch
Those nerves were made worse when news of Walsall's opener at Crewe filtered through and
despite having the lion's share of possession
the home side struggled to mount a serious challenge on the Fleetwood goal
defender Jack Shepherd was sent up front and he saw a well-hit volley hit the post before Sarcevic somehow fired over from close range
Just when it looked like their top-three hopes were over
promotion-specialist Sarcevic - who has now gone up a remarkable eight times in his career -stuck a leg out at Lapslie's mis-hit shot
The club could well find themselves fined as fans entered the field in celebration
but the match eventually concluded and Bradford's 26-year wait for an automatic promotion is over
Bradford City boss Graham Alexander has led the club to a first promotion since Phil Parkinson in 2013
Boss Graham Alexander won the division's manager of the year award at the EFL awards on Sunday after overseeing a great turnaround in their season
The West Yorkshire side were 12th on Christmas Day after a 3-0 defeat at Notts County on 21 December but a club-record run of 10 straight home victories set them on their way for their first automatic promotion since 1999
Alexander replaced Mark Hughes as Bradford boss in November 2023 and led them to a strong end to last season
as they finished two points outside the play-offs
Hopes were raised for a promotion push this campaign but they struggled for consistency in the first half of the season and the 3-0 loss at Meadow Lane left them closer to the bottom two than then-league leaders Walsall after 20 matches
they bounced back from the dismal showing in the East Midlands with eight wins in their following 10 league games
despite losing top scorer Andy Cook to a season-ending knee injury on 1 January
so often their Achilles heel in previous seasons
has been key to their success and Saturday's stunning victory means they end with 17 home successes from 23 matches
The 10-match run was brought to a surprise end by struggling Tranmere on 15 March but
they bounced back in front of their fourth-tier record attendance of 23,381 with a thumping 4-1 win over Colchester the following week
With previous runaway table-toppers Walsall floundering
the 2-0 home victory over play-off chasing Crewe on Saturday
5 April saw the Bantams end a day on top of a league table for the first time since September 2008
those home successes were their only two victories in a run of 10 games going into the final day as the pressure looked to weigh on the team
Sarcevic's intervention came just in time and they will now hope to carry this momentum into next season and a first third-tier campaign since 2018-19
Alexander: 'I've never seen a minute like that in my life'
BBC Radio Leeds' Bradford City reporter Jamie Raynor
The scale of what Graham Alexander and his staff have achieved should not be understated
Home form has often been the failing of Alexander's predecessors
boasting the third best points return in the EFL behind Championship winners Leeds United and runaway League One champions Birmingham City
The fans believe in the players and are once again proud to support their club
2025 was always going to be a big year for Bradford
The title of UK City of Culture has offered hopes of future prosperity
while the region remembers one of its darkest days with the 40th anniversary of the Valley Parade Fire disaster
This promotion represents more than just footballing achievement
It's a moment for the region just as much as it is for the club
Its people deserve this moment and it serves as a firm reminder what a simple game of football can do for the area it represents

Fleetwood Town suffered late heartbreak in Yorkshire as former Town man Antoni Sarcevic scored a dramatic late winner to secure automatic promotion for Bradford City
There was nothing to separate the two sides throughout
but it was a moment of luck that turned the game round in the Bantams favour to see them finish in the top three of Sky Bet League Two
Fleetwood took on Bradford City in what was a feisty affair
with a win securing their promotion to the third division of English football
A bouncing Valley Parade set the occasion perfectly on what was a huge game for football fans all around the country
They produced two promising attacks within the first ten minutes
Pete Wild’s side defended set pieces and attacking plays from the opposition strongly
showing signs of determination from the beginning despite nothing to play for
A massive opportunity came for Fleetwood in the 24th minute
A successful passage of play occured on the left flank of the pitch between Mark Helm
The latter drove the ball infield in the opposition box
and picked out a well-timed pass to Matty Virtue – who Unfortunately saw his shot denied excellently by goalkeeper
The scoreline remained a stalemate at the half-time whistle
Both teams matched each other’s quality and similarly
they both produced exciting periods of play
Did Wild have the words of wisdom to get his team over the line
and spoil Bradford City’s chance at promotion
news was spreading around the stadium that Walsall had taken the lead over in Crewe
it meant that Bradford remained outside of the automatic promotion places
The 420 travelling Fleetwood fans were jubilant at the news
Bradford squandered a stand-out opportunity only six minutes later
Bobby Pointon did well to break his way into the box
Harrison Neal was down to cancel this opportunity to keep it goalless
Another chance came for young striker Devonport in the 80th minute
but ultimately he came crashing into the goalkeeper
but Shaun Rooney was the man to halt this opportunity
Graham Alexander’s side’s biggest chance of the game came a minute from time
The Bantams struck the post and the follow up shot was rifle goalwards
they threw bodies on the line and were able to pull off an incredible goal line clearance
the hosts had yet another outstanding opportunity to take the lead and potentially move them above Walsall
The ball was lofted into the Bradford Kop end when it arguably should have been buried into the back of the net
former Town man Sarcevic found the goal for Bradford that promoted them via the automatic places
The ball crept past Fleetwood’s defenders and goalkepper Jay Lynch
with a huge raw coming around from all corners of the University of Bradford Stadium
Town put up an amazing fight against the newly promoted Bradford City
and they should be hopeful going into the next season with majority of the squad under contract
his staff and players didn’t get the opportunity to thank the 420 travelling fans for their support today
and across the entire season due to a concern of player safety
You can hear Pete Wild’s thank you message to the fans in his post match interview on FleetwoodTV.

Newport endured a frustrating day as Fleetwood proved the more clinical in front of goal
Second-half strikes from Phoenix Patterson and Zech Medley helped Fleetwood Town to victory in their final home game of the season as Newport were beaten in their first match since the departure of head coach Nelson Jardim this week
County winger Bobby Kamwa curled an early effort wide before forcing a reaction save from Jay Lynch
while Newport keeper Nick Townsend also had to be alert to deny Ryan Broom and Matty Virtue
The match was temporarily suspended before half-time for a medical emergency in the stands
with both sets of players leaving the field for around seven minutes before play resumed
Fleetwood opened the scoring with a superb free-kick in the 52nd minute from Patterson
whose right-foot effort flew into the top-left corner
The hosts added a second with 16 minutes left when Medley tucked away Mackenzie Hunt's cross with a precise finish

Two mid-table sides produced a typical end-of-season affair
Barrow impressed early and Ben Whitfield produced a smart diving save from Fleetwood goalkeeper Jay Lynch
The hosts responded in the 19th minute with a double chance
Mark Helm's initial shot was parried by goalkeeper Wyll Stanway
with Owen Devonport lashing over the rebound from an acute angle
Just before the interval the Bluebirds threatened again when Sam Foley fired narrowly over the top from 20 yards
Fleetwood almost went in front minutes after the restart when Danny Mayor fired over the top
Town striker Helm then glanced a header inches off target
Ben Jackson's half-volley thumped the crossbar as Barrow responded
Barrow sub Aaron Pressley then screwed an effort agonisingly wide from close range
Helm had the ball in the Barrow net late on

HOLLYWOOD - SEPTEMBER 18: Members of Fleetwood Mac from left: John McVie
Christine McVie and Lindsey Buckingham on the SECOND ANNUAL ROCK MUSIC AWARDS
The masterpiece remains one of the most commercially-beloved and critically-adored titles of all time
The pop-rock band's hit-laden collection is one of a number of releases that has earned a constant presence on the Billboard charts
but this is an especially busy week for the project
it climbs higher than ever on one in particular
proving that there’s still an insatiable desire among fans to revisit the singles that turned it into a behemoth in the first place
Billboard only introduced the Top Streaming Albums chart a relatively short time ago
so classic releases and superstar musicians regularly reach new peaks as listeners turn to past favorites — sometimes turning them into streaming successes for the first time
Rumours jumps 15 spaces on the Top Streaming Albums ranking
That’s a new high point for the full-length
and since it’s the only title from Fleetwood Mac to ever appear on this tally
As it rockets up the streaming-only ranking
Rumours also climbs on four other Billboard charts
The title nears the summit once again on both the Top Rock Albums and Top Rock & Alternative Albums rosters
it also returns to the top 10 on the Top Album Sales chart
which focuses on the bestselling releases in the U.S.
The collection is also rising on the Billboard 200
Luminate reports that in the past tracking week
Rumours sold 4,400 copies — enough to make it one of the top 10 bestselling releases in the country
A large number of those must have been on wax
as the collection reenters the Vinyl Albums chart at No
It’s the only list where the project had to return
since last week the chart was flooded with Record Store Day exclusives
As Rumours climbs the Top Streaming Albums list and reaches a new peak
“Dreams” is one of Fleetwood Mac’s most beloved cuts
It also inches back into the top five on the Rock Streaming Songs ranking
Fleetwood Town head coach Pete Wild spoke to the media ahead of the final game of the season away at Bradford City
Wild reflected on his half-season in charge at Town
with many good elements coming from Academy players getting minutes and key players returning to the XI
With Bradford Town’s final opponents of the season
Fleetwood could go there and spoil the party with the hosts needing to match or better Walsall’s result – who travel to Crewe
Here are the key quotes from the Gaffer’s press conference:
“I was really pleased with us on Saturday
The players passed the ball well and adapted to the difference of the shape we worked on them with
It was really nice to get a home win against Newport County
“I’ve taken a lot from this season since I came in
Will Johnson & Zech Medley coming back into the squad meant I’ve seen the full squad
We’ve looked at different things and all in all it’s given me a good idea for next year.”
Wild said: “Recruitment is the big one
We want the lads to know how we want to play and we’re clear with that
We now need to fill in the gaps of what we don’t have
“We know what we want to do in pre-season
We all need to be the best version of ourselves when we’re back in the building on July 3rd
But we’re all pushing in the right direction.”
