Following today’s game against Barnet
AFC Fylde Chairman David Haythornthwaite would like to give the following update to supporters ahead of the 2025/26 season
As the late Queen Elizabeth said in 1992 following a particularly harrowing year for her family
I think the same can be said about the season ending today
Ever since my involvement with the club going back to 2007
we’ve had our high and lows and thankfully
What makes football both great and frustrating is that there is no recipe or guarantee for success
it guarantees absolutely nothing at any level
just look at Manchester United and Chelsea
I can guarantee that no one involved in those two clubs set out to fail
every one of them had the best intentions and believed they were doing the right thing
be it on players or managers will reap scant reward and the same applies to us here at AFC
(in the main me) have either made bad decisions or allowed others to do so
resulting in the worst summer recruitment since I became involved
the players on the park were simply not good enough for this standard of football and David Longwell alluded to this in his interview after the Tamworth game
but ultimately it’s what they are paid to do
I can only blame myself as the proverbial buck stops with me
I let you down and I can assure you that no one feels as sick as I do about the situation we find ourselves in
We have to face adversity everyday of life in some shape or form
but it’s how we deal with it that defines us as individuals or organisations
We’ve been laughed at and ridiculed for our 2022 ambition
but as most of you know we were just 90 minutes from fulfilling that dream
and the will to keep on pumping the money in
there is a right way to do things and a wrong way
I enjoy my football every bit as much as everyone else and I want to win as much as all of you
Playing the right way is equally important and I passionately believe it is possible to play the right way and still win
This past season we were guilty of not doing either
People will find all kind of excuses not to do the right things
not just in football but in business and in life but that’s all they are
I am hearing already that ‘you can’t play football in the NLN because the pitches are not good enough’
Anyone watching PSG over the last few weeks will agree
they are a cut above anything we have in the Premier League
and they do it playing fast attacking football which is a joy to behold
Do you think they would play any different at Buxton or Blyth
This is going to require a complete overhaul of both backroom staff and the playing squad and that work has already begun
We have started the search for a new Head Coach who shares our values and vision and everything will follow on from there
On this subject I want to thank David Longwell and Frankie McAvoy for doing their best to keep us up
both are true gentlemen and professionals in every way
All that remains is for me to thank all of you for your amazing support
Please continue to keep the faith and be assured I will do everything I can to get us to the promised land
AFC Fylde can confirm that David Longwell and Frankie McAvoy will leave the club following the final game of the 2024/25 campaign against Barnet
Longwell joined the club at a difficult time in the season and following the departure of Kevin Phillips at the end of February
took the reins until the end of the campaign along with Chris Neal
dedication and professionalism in attempt to keep the club in the National League
the club were unable to retain their position in the National League and following the final game of the season
both David and Frankie will be moving on to pastures new
leaving the club ahead of the 2025/26 season
David Longwell said: “First of all I’d like to thank the Chairman and the Director of Football for the opportunity to work at AFC Fylde
“I joined the club at a very difficult time and believe despite not staying up
we brought a much stronger structure and organisation to the football side of the club and I hope to see the foundations we laid be built on in the months to come
“I’ve said on numerous occasions that I will always expect and demand hard work from people around me as that is the bare minimum I expect of myself
and I hope supporters can recognise the efforts we have gone to in recent months to keep us in the division
I must compliment the players in trying their best to achieve the results we all desired
but a mixture of various factors unfortunately meant we were unable to achieve this
“I leave the club after today having really enjoyed the short spell here
It’s a fantastic football club with a passionate Chairman and I wish nothing but the best for him and the club
I’d like to thank the supporters who have been brilliant with me from the first day I walked into the building and I really hope they will be celebrating success next season
I know that Stewart and the Chairman are working hard in plans for next season and I wish AFC Fylde every success in the future and I look forward to coming to a game in the future to give my support
Everyone at AFC Fylde would like to place on record their thankfulness to David and Frankie for their hard work and professionalism during their time on the Fylde Coast and we wish them nothing but the best for the future
An announcement regarding the Head Coach role at Mill Farm will be made in the coming weeks
Barnet capped off their title-winning 2024/25 Vanarama National League campaign in style, hitting the 102-point mark with a convincing 3-0 victory over AFC Fylde at Mill Farm.
Despite having sealed the league title the previous week, Dean Brennan’s side approached their final fixture with clear intent.
There was still work to be done, and a century of points in their sights.
From the opening whistle, the Bees dominated possession.
They immediately applied pressure to the Fylde defence, testing goalkeeper Ben Winterbottom with a series of early chances.
Though the hosts tried to respond, Barnet debutant Gio Bellagambi and a resolute backline ensured Fylde struggled to make inroads.
Just past the 10-minute mark, Barnet’s early pressure paid off.
Captain Anthony Hartigan delivered a pinpoint corner into the box, where Adebola Oluwo rose highest to nod the ball into the bottom left corner, giving the visitors a deserved lead.
Barnet continued to push forward with confidence.
Ryan Glover and Rhys Browne both came close with efforts from various ranges, but Winterbottom stood firm, producing several key saves to keep the scoreline close.
Eventually, the pressure proved too much, as Callum Stead was brought down in the box, and referee pointed to the spot.
Up stepped Mark Shelton, who coolly slotted the penalty into the bottom left corner, despite Winterbottom guessing the right way, making it 2-0 and netting his fifth goal in just three games.
Fylde looked livelier after the break, enjoying more possession and asking questions of Barnet’s defence.
Bellagambi was called into action on a few occasions, standing strong to preserve the two-goal cushion.
The hosts came close to halving the deficit when a clearance attempt from Bellagambi was blocked by Charlie Jolley.
The ball rebounded dangerously toward goal, but luckily for the Bees, it flew just over the crossbar.
Barnet soon put the result beyond doubt, as Lee Ndlovu latched onto a through ball, rounded Winterbottom with composure, and slotted home to make it 3-0.
As the clock wound down, Brennan introduced fresh legs, giving appearances to a few players including Ben Coker, Zak Brunt, and Jeremie Okimo for the final moments of a historic season.
Both sides had late chances, but the scoreline remained unchanged.
The full-time whistle sparked celebrations among over 500 traveling Barnet fans, who witnessed not just a final-day win, but a landmark achievement.
For the first time in their history, Barnet reached over 100 points in a league campaign, cementing their status as worthy champions and marking the end of a truly unforgettable season.
Line Up: Bellagambi, Browne (Brunt 70’), Ndlovu (Telford 80’), Stead, Kanu (Coke 61’), Glover, Hartigan (Okimo 89’), Shelton (Clifford 65’), Oluwo, Grimwood, Tavares
Goals: Oluwo (12’), Shelton (Pen 39’), Ndlovu (59’)

Having led through Dan Creaney's early goal
Tamworth then had goalkeeper Jas Singh sent off just before the half-hour mark
Nick Haughton swiftly equalised and further efforts from Charlie Jolley and Lincoln McFayden had Fylde 3-1 up before Kennedy Digie pulled a goal back for the hosts just prior to the break
Creaney completed his brace in the 78th minute to bring things all square again and Finn subsequently completed the turnaround with a finish in the first minute of time added on at the end

It’s the final away trip for the season for AFC Fylde as they make the trip to the Lamb Ground to face Tamworth on Saturday afternoon
never really being considered involved in the relegation battle at the bottom on the Vanarama National League
Andy Peaks’ side snatched a late winner in the reverse fixture in a 2-1 win at Mill Farm
A long throw in the 96th minute allowed substitute Dan Creaney to finish and send the travelling supporting into raptures
Despite Fylde’s fate being sealed for this campaign
the Coasters are still fighting for pride after grinding out a 0-0 draw away at promotion-chasing Rochdale on Easter Monday
David Longwell’s side almost snatched a late winner too as Max Bardell was inches away from connecting with Gav Massey’s dangerous cross in the last attacking phase of the game
Manager Andy Peaks has led Tamworth to back-to-back promotions since his appointment at the Lamb Ground in February 2022
His playing career started at Northampton Town
before going onto feature for Rushden Town

He has since secured an impressive season back in the National League
accumulating 16 wins and sitting in 10th heading into this weekend
The scorer of the late winning back in September at Mill Farm

scoring 17 goals and assisting 7 times in 40 National League appearances

AFC Fylde fell to a 91st minute goal as they were defeated 4-3 against 10-man Tamworth on Saturday afternoon
Charlie Jolley and Lincoln McFayden has the Coasters 3-1 up late in the first half but a second half fightback from Tamworth meant Fylde left with nothing in their final away trip of 2024/25
The first half was action packed as the half was split into the two with a huge red card changing the momentum
Tamworth top scorer Dan Creaney opened the scoring in simple fashion
converting a header from close range to break the deadlock
Fylde pushed for an equaliser and after Bryce Hosannah stole possession on the half way line
he raced through on goal before being wiped out by Tamworth ‘keeper Jas Singh
Referee Wayne Cartmel took his time to make a decision but eventually gave a red card for Singh as the hosts were reduced to 10
Nick Haughton took the resulting free kick and whipped a stunning effort into the top corner as Fylde drew level
Moments later and Fylde were ahead with Charlie Jolley drilling an effort across the face goal past substitute ‘keeper Jack Hitchman
Eight minutes were added on at the end of the first half with Fylde in complete control and with Nick Haughton enjoying his time on the ball
he carved open the Tamworth defence which allowed Lincoln McFayden to add a third before the break
There was still time for Tamworth to add to the scoreline
with centre half Kennedy Digie adding a second for the Lambs with the final action of the first half
leaving Fylde with just a one goal cushion
Fylde were forced into their second enforced change early in the second half as Harry Davis was forced
being replaced by Chris Stokes after Ash Boatswain was forced off in the first half
Kai Williams had a golden opportunity to draw level after McFayden gifted the Lambs the ball inside the Fylde area
but Williams blasted his effort over the bar
Danny Ormerod and Jon Ustabasi were introduced with 20 minutes to go as Tamworth grabbed a real foothold in the contest
Tamworth did grab their equaliser as Dan Creaney sealed his second of the afternoon
slamming past Winterbottom from the edge of the area
And as six minutes went up for injury time
Tamworth grabbed a winner as Kyle Finn bundled home from close range as Fylde collapsed in the second 45
A frustrating end to the game in Staffordshire as Fylde look ahead to the final game of the season where they’ll face Champions Barnet at Mill Farm a week on Monday

AFC Fylde are already relegated and Barnet are already promoted
so we have a really beachy game here to enjoy
Fylde’s home games feature three or more goals more frequently than any other home side in the National League
Barnet’s away games are also usually goal-happy
with three or more goals being scored 59% of the time
visited Fylde at the start of April in a game which saw four goals scored
Fylde’s trip to Tamworth saw seven goals scored in the match
Barnet have scored three and four goals in their last two games against bottom-half opposition
so Fylde could be in for a tough afternoon
Braintree are not mathematically safe from relegation
but it would take a 12-goal swing with Maidenhead United to see them slip through the trap door
They host a Rochdale side who are already assured of fourth spot and a shot at the play-offs
The Iron’s home games this season have been particularly dull
with a staggeringly low average of 1.7 goals per game
Two goals or fewer have been scored in 16 games out of 22
Their last three games have seen just one goal scored
Rochdale keep things pretty tight on the road too
with no team having seen fewer than three goals scored more often than Dale on their travels
The reverse fixture ended 1-0 to Rochdale and we wouldn’t be surprised if there was a repeat of that scoreline on Monday
There’s very little motivation for either side in this one
with Hartlepool smack back in the middle of the table
whilst Forest Green are in the play-offs and will just be looking to tick over and avoid injuries ahead of attempting to seal an immediate return to the football league
Hartlepool’s home games have been low scoring
with their last three going over 2.5 goals
They were thumped 5-1 last weekend by Rochdale
which we think could lead to a tightening of the guard against similarly ranked opposition
Forest Green’s away games have also seen fewer than three goals more often than not
They have kept clean sheets in their last two games
with the only possible motivation the chance to grab a top-half spot for both teams if results go their way.
Both teams have scored in eight of Sutton’s last nine league games
The reverse fixture between these two sides also saw both teams score
Five of Woking’s last seven games have seen both teams score
Only two of their away games this year have failed to cover this bet
We should see an end-to-end encounter here and hopefully a bit of fun in the sun

FC Halifax Town travel to AFC Fylde in the Vanarama National League on Good Friday
The Shaymen travel to the 23rd placed side before entertaining Altrincham at the Shay on Easter Monday who are pushing to get into the play-offs and are just four points behind Town
Chris Millington’s side are in 7th place after a run of six games without victory
losing 2-0 at home to Maidenhead thanks to two late goals
Town haven’t won since the 3-0 win at Sutton back on the 15th March and with just four games remaining
need to start to find maximum points again to ensure a play-off position at the end of the season
Our hosts are 10 points away from safety with just four games remaining
so defeat at home to tomorrow would see them relegated back to the National League North
They have lost their last four games in a row
last time out they were defeated 1-0 away at Woking
2-0 away at Aldershot Town and 1-0 away at Yeovil Town
The Coasters did beat Forest Green at home on the 22nd March 3-0
Their home form has seen them pick up 8 wins
4 draws and 9 defeats but they have struggled on the road with just 3 wins
They have both scored and conceded 35 goals on home soil but away from home they have only scored 12 and conceded 42
Fylde did win at the Shay back in February with a 2-1 win
Nick Haughton’s penalty earnt them all three points

Arsene Wenger once famously said that the Christmas games are important
but it’s the Easter games that are defining
we set off on our 67-mile journey west knowing that the result would indeed be decisive for both teams
Having had a sticky run of results recently
losing points against teams we were confident about
it was time for the travelling Shaymen to set off en-mass
and play our part in what we hoped would be a good day out
With traffic backed up on the M61 due to a car fire
then the M6 which was running at snail’s pace with holiday traffic heading towards the delights of Blackpool or the Lake District
we had no time to locate a chippy for lunch
we rolled up into the Mill Farm Sports Village almost two hours after setting off and still ravenous
Admission to Fylde’s stadium presented a moral dilemma
The travelling Shaymen were charged £4 more than the home fans for the same type of accommodation
The dilemma was whether to swear allegiance to the home club and gain admission at a bargain rate or stick to your principles and pay the additional money to cheer the Shaymen on from the away end
Tesco Pete’s balaclava did seem a little over the top
‘I’m taking these back,’ said the Greetland Shayman along with a few other adjectives
He’d just visited the food and drink kiosk and returned with a couple of cups of tea that were at best tepid
but he set off down those steps like there was no tomorrow
He reappeared about 10 minutes later after someone had finally switched the kettle on
The Shaymen kicked towards the home end in the first half
The once enthusiastic home support has dwindled
the famous flags proclaiming 2022 as the target year for promotion to the football league now removed
the home side looked a shadow of their former selves
The Shaymen took control of the game early on and never looked under serious threat
Fylde were lucky to be just a goal down at the break
With the Shaymen attacking towards the impressive travelling support of around 900
the game continued with the team running the show
another stonewall penalty appeal was turned down
Fylde had a few minutes of possession late in the game
but their fate and the game was sealed with perhaps the most comfortable single goal victory we’ve seen all season
the team were well applauded for their efforts
The injured Joe Cummings on crutches and Jack Evans came on to the pitch and pumped up the crowd to celebrate the win
It demonstrates the togetherness of the squad and shows just how much yet another away win means at this time of the season
it’s the Easter games that make all the difference
Next up we’ve got a few battles at home before we head down to Wealdstone for the final league game of the season

Highlights from the Crown Oil Area as Fylde made the trip to Greater Manchester to face Rochdale on Easter Monday
AFC Fylde suffered a really disappointing result on the road on Saturday as they fell to a 1-0 defeat away at Ebbsfleet United
the Coasters were unable to force an equaliser and left Kent with nothing to show for their efforts
Haughton was at the heart of everything positive that Fylde produced in the first 45 as he went close with a free kick after just three minutes
Haughton looked to set Owen Evans away with a brilliant pass on the turn
but the full back couldn’t keep his effort down
Ebbsfleet grew into the contest as the half went on
looking dangerous particularly in the wide areas
George Moncur went close late in the half as he broke down the left wing and saw his effort well blocked by Corey Whelan
There was a half time change as Nick Haughton
who had been a doubt before kick off with illness
But the second half got off to a terrible start for Fylde who fell behind within two minutes as Will Lankshire bundled the ball home from close range to break the deadlock
Fylde then began to get a foot hold in the contest
Gavin Massey dragged a couple of efforts wide and Joe Riley was denied twice in quick succession
seeing his first effort blocked before he showed great footwork to work a yard of space
Will Hugill also went close after playing a neat one-two with Ethan Mitchell and his effort was inches away from finding the far corner on a day where nothing seemed to go Fylde’s way
As the fourth official announced four minutes of added time
Fylde were denied what seemed a certain penalty as Tyler Roberts was tripped in the penalty area
There was one final chance as Ben Winterbottom rose highest from a corner to almost save a point
but the ‘keeper’s header flew just wide of the post
A disappointing result for Fylde who slipped back into the relegation zone ahead of a Mill Farm double header next week as we host Sutton United and Forest Green Rovers
It was a Good Friday indeed for FC Halifax Town
who secured a valuable three points on the road at AFC Fylde
Just one change was made to the starting eleven ahead of the clash at Mill Farm
with Luca Thomas coming into the side in place of Adam Adetoro
The visitors made a bright start and nearly opened the scoring inside five minutes
Tom Pugh struck an audacious volley from distance
A lovely turn on the halfway line by Daniel Nkrumah released Angelo Cappello down the left flank
The winger swung in a dangerous cross towards the back post
but Owen Evans produced a solid block to deny him
Nkrumah continued to impress in the early stages and should have broken the deadlock after 20 minutes
A clipped cross from Cappello took a slight deflection off a Fylde defender before reaching Nkrumah
but the forward could only head over from close range
Cappello was involved once again just moments later
Picking up the ball on the edge of the area
he drilled a low effort towards the bottom right-hand corner
but it rolled agonisingly wide of the post
Halifax’s pressure finally told on the half-hour mark
Ryan Galvin wheeled away in celebration after heading home his second goal for the club—both of which have come via headers
it was Adam Senior who provided the assist
nodding the ball across goal and putting it on a plate for Galvin to convert
Fylde manager David Longwell was clearly dissatisfied with his side’s start
responding with a 33rd-minute substitution as Joe Riley replaced Max Bardell
The Shaymen came close to doubling their lead shortly afterwards
A delicate touch from Nkrumah played in Luca Thomas
whose powerful strike cannoned back off the post and away to safety
Florent Hoti forced Winterbottom into a smart stop from a well-struck free kick
The second half began with more frustration for Thomas
After beating his man with some neat stepovers
he cut inside and fired a curling effort that had Winterbottom beaten—but not the crossbar
Both sides saw yellow early in the second period
Harry Davis was cautioned for dissent after arguing with the assistant referee
while Cappello received a booking for simulation following a fall inside the penalty area
Halifax continued to push for a second goal and should have extended their lead by the hour mark
Some intricate interplay between Hoti and Cappello teed up Pugh on the edge of the area
The Coasters picked up another yellow card soon after
as Ethan Mitchell forcefully nudged Josh Emmanuel off the ball
but the Fylde goalkeeper was alert to make a good save
Town made their first substitutions of the afternoon shortly afterwards
with Lewis Leigh replacing Pugh and Zak Emmerson coming on for Thomas
Halifax were almost made to pay for missed chances
Ashley Boatswain found space in the box but somehow missed the target from just five yards out
It was comfortably Fylde’s best move of the match
The Shaymen made their final changes late on
Hoti and Nkrumah were replaced by Harvey Sutcliffe
Four minutes were added on at the end of normal time
but Halifax saw out the final stages professionally to secure a crucial three points on the road
3 Owen Evans (29 Danny Ormerod 80) 4 Harry Davis
8 Daniel Nkrumah (22 Dubem Eze 89),10 Jamie Cooke
11 Angelo Cappello (14 Harvey Sutcliffe 84)

AFC Fylde fell to a 1-0 defeat to Woking thanks to Dale Gorman’s second half strike
Woking were first to have a shot at goal when Gorman’s strike was fired over the bar
they put some real pressure on Fylde’s defence in the opening 15 minutes
Fylde looked to get back into the game through Nick Haughton
but his whipped free kick was held onto by Will Jääskeläinen
Ashley Boatswain struck a tame effort at goal from Max Bardell’s cross down the right flank
The first half ended with the teams going into halftime at a stalemate
Woking started the second half well as they won a couple of corners
neither of which troubling The Coasters though
Woking had a huge chance to break the deadlock
but Owen Evans was there to clear away the danger on the goal line after a free kick found its way towards the back post
Gorman striking fiercely past Ben Winterbottom from the edge of the penalty area after his initial strike was blocked
The Coasters sent on Emika Obi as a target man late on
but he couldn’t make the desired impact as Fylde fell to a 1-0 defeat on the road
The Coasters held play-off hopeful’s Rochdale to a point at the Crown Oil Arena
putting in assured defensive display during the penultimate away fixture of the campaign
Nick Haughton got proceedings underway for the Coasters as Ben Winterbottom sent the ball long from kick-off earning a throw in that was sent deep into the Rochdale box
The opening stages were fairly scrappy with neither side taking a grip of the game
as the first threatening effort on goal went the hosts’ way when Devante Rodney rose highest at the back post from a Aidan Barlow looping set piece just past the ten minute mark
A touching tribute to former Dale player and local man Joe Thompson took place on the fifteenth minute as the referee paused proceedings and both sets of fans partook in a minitue’s applause
Winterbottom was the first of the two keepers to be forced into a save as he claimed Kairo Mitchell’s tame effort from distance
Will Hugill won a free-kick in a dangerous area allowing Joe Riley to send a ball into the area where he found the head of Harry Davis whose effort flew wide
Moments later Jim Mcnulty’s side saw several efforts on goal following a succession of corners with Max Bardell making a crucial intervention before Cory Edwards fired an effort wide
Owen Evans then put in a timely challenge on Michael Adu-Poku to deny the wing-back a chance to fire a teasing ball into the middle
resulting in a fifth corner kick in about a minute
The Coasters held firm and eventually managed to regain possession and slow down proceedings towards the end of the first 45
Haughton forced a pivotal block from Dale skipper Kyron Gordon as Ash Botswain combined well with Hugill who burst into the area towards the byline before laying off Haughton who struck from just inside the 6-yard-box
There were a flurry of opportunities early in the second 45
with both sides finding more joy in the forward areas
An early effort in the second half forced Winterbottom to make a smart low stop when Sam Beckwith found Mitchell just outside the six-yard-box before firing a powerful low strike towards the Fylde goal
Moments later Lincoln McFayden and Haughton combined well down the left hand side with the former striking a weak effort towards goal
Harvey Gilmore forced an excellent stop from Winterbottom as he dove at full stretch to his right hand side before palming the goal bound effort round the post
Bardell did well down the right hand side following a long ball forward from Winterbottom that lead to a corner kick
with Evans and Hugill eventually striking efforts from distance before it was claimed by Barrett in the Dale goal with just over 15 minutes left to play
Substitute Tarryn Allarakhia then struck a powerful effort from distance forcing Cory Whelan to make a timely block
Gavin Massey did well to find Whealan from a set-piece at an awkward angle who headed wide of the target
moments before Massey again played a teasing ball towards the back stick just beyond the reach of Bardell who came close to connecting with it
in the final attacking action of the encounter
A resolute defensive display in Greater Manchester for David Longwell’s side proving to be enough to earn a point
AFC Fylde defender Lincoln McFayden spoke to Coasters TV ahead of this weekend’s trip to Tamworth
It was defeat for ten-man AFC Fylde who fell to a 2-0 defeat against Braintree Town on Saturday afternoon
Goals from Jermaine Francis and Kyrell Lisbie in either half condemned Fylde to a disappointing result at Mill Farm
Fylde dominated the early stages of the contest but almost fell behind after a quarter of an hour as Kyrell Lisbie got in behind and looked to square the ball across the face of goal
but Corey Whelan produced a brilliant tackle to keep the scores level
Haughton had his first attempt moments later with a free kick from 30 yards which looked destined for the top corner
Ethan Mitchell received the first yellow of the game as Blackwell took the resulting free kick which went narrowly wide of Ben Winterbottom’s post
it was Braintree who opened the scoring on 35 minutes as Jermaine Francis crept in behind the Fylde defence and slotted past Ben Winterbottom to break the deadlock
The visitors almost scored a second moments later as an audacious strike cannoned off the crossbar
But Fylde went into the half time interval with plenty of work to do as they trailed by a goal to nil
But things got worse for Longwell and Neal’s side as Braintree made it two on the hour mark with a back-post finish from a set-piece
Jon Ustabasi saw red for Fylde after a late challenge on James Vennings
Emeka Obi hit the bar in the final stages as Fylde looked for a consolation but it ended in a 2-0 defeat at Mill Farm

AFC Fylde defeated play-off hopeful’s Altrincham on Saturday afternoon by two goals to one
Gavin Massey’s long range effort and Nick Haughton’s venomous strike from a tight angle
either side of Lewis Banks cross-goal strike in the first 45 earning David Longwell and Chris Neal victory in their first encounter at the helm
The first opportunity of the afternoon fell the host’s way as Regan Linney tried to catch Ben Wintebottom off guard from distance but the Brentford loanee claimed the effort comfortably
Gavin Massey found the head of Charlie Jolley moments later
but he was unable to find any sort of power and send his header goalward
as the Coasters built slight momentum in the opening stages
Massey then opened the scoring with an inspired strike as his dipping finish across goal from around 25-yards-out
caught Caleb Ansen off guard in the host goal
The hosts then piled on the pressure as Winterbottom denied the Robins frontline on several occasions following a succession of corner kicks
Including a fantastic stop with his left foot from close range
A leveller was found soon after when Justin Amaluzor teed up full back Lewis Banks just inside the area as he struck across goal and into the back of the net via Winterbottom’s right-hand post
Altrincham continued to maintain possession as they looked to take the lead just past the quarter-of-an-hour mark before a positive spell for the Coasters with Max Bardell and Joe Riley combining well down the right to earn the first corner of the afternoon for the Coasters
Nick Haughton regained the lead for the Coasters with a low powerful effort from a tight angle after Massey picked him out with an exquisitely placed ball to send the number 10 through on goal down the left-hand-side to fire home
Massey and Haughton again combined well as the former spun two midfielders in the centre circle before Massey’s mazing run down the left came to an end as he won a free-kick
Haughton swung the set piece into the area
Winterbottom made another smart stop as he parried a powerful effort away from goal and down the left
Robin’s talisman Linney started the second-half on the front foot as he looked to isolate Bardell in the right back position who stood his ground well to deny the forward a strike on goal with a well timed sliding challenge

Winterbottom again provided an excellent stop to deny Tom Crawford as he struck a low and powerful effort from distance just shy of the 70 minute mark
While the Robins held plenty of possession in the closing stages a resolute Coasters backline held strong as they closed out an impressive victory in Greater Manchester providing the perfect reaction to Tuesday’s disappointing defeat to Boston United
