Families who lost loved ones at Gosport War Memorial Hospital have told ITV News Meridian of their frustration at the slow pace of the police investigation
In 2018 an Independent Panel said at least 456 people died at Gosport War Memorial Hospital after being given powerful painkillers they did not need between 1987 and 2001.
were prescribed and given powerful painkillers in a manner that violated medical protocols and standards
Nearly thirty years after the deaths of their family members
the pain is compounded by the fact that they are now the same age their loved ones were when they died in the hospital
Relatives of people who died at the Gosport War Memorial Hospital say they are still searching for answers
Operation Magenta is one of the largest and most complex police inquiries in UK history
the investigation is being hailed for its thoroughness
but there is growing concern among the affected families about the pace of progress
Around 150 serving and retired police officers are working on Operation Magenta
The Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate
previously said 24 suspects were being interviewed
but have now confirmed this has risen to 29
That includes 24 for alleged gross negligence manslaughter and five for alleged offences under the Health and Safety at Work Act
So far, they have assessed more than 3 million pages of documents. This includes the medical records of over 750 patients and taken witness statements from more than 1,150 individual family members.
With nearly seven years having passed since the investigation's inception
many are feeling that justice is taking too long
whose father Vernon Gregory died at the hospital said: "Everything seems to be stuck
that's the only way I can describe it
"And I just feel very sad for a lot of people like myself getting older
I've just lost my sister a couple of weeks ago
And soon people there'll be nobody left in the family to fight for the ones that they've lost."
said: "Next year I shall be the same age as my father was when he died
and that's much the same for many other people in there."
"We cannot provide a timeline for the completion of this inquiry," Jerome stated
and we are committed to ensuring that every individual who may have been involved in these tragic events is thoroughly investigated."
The story of the Gosport War Memorial Hospital is far from over

SearchREPORT | WEALDSTONE 4-1 GOSPORT BOROUGHWealdstone FCOct 12
A wet Saturday afternoon saw Wealdstone host Southern Premier Division South side Gosport Borough in the FA Cup Fourth Round Qualifying
Matt Taylor made two changes to the starting 11 that narrowly lost 1-0 to Gateshead last Saturday
was handed his first start in a Stones kit with Dominic Hutchinson also coming into the team in place of Callum McFarlane and Elliot Thorpe
with only one loss in their last six games
A bright start for the home side resulted in Wealdstone receiving a penalty in the first minute of the game
The Gosport keeper brought down Reid in the box after the debutant took the ball past him
Samuel Ashford stepped up for the Stones but was denied by a fantastic save by Ryan Gosney
it was Gosport who would have the next big chances of the game
as Daniel Wooden had a well struck shot from the edge of the box parried away by Sam Howes
Gosport’s attacking mindset was rewarded as they took the lead in the 21st minute through Wooden
The number nine was put slipped through on one and slotted it past Howes
Halfway through the first half and Wealdstone were in search of their second penalty of the game
as Dominic Hutchinson was seemingly taken out in the box after chopping his defender
it was Gosport once again with a massive chance to double their lead
A clever one-two left Asher Yearwood in acres of space in the box
but his powerful effort was denied by Howes
After a slow 15 minutes following the change
Wealdstone eventually levelled the game just before half time
Brandon Mason’s shot from inside the box was initially saved
but the ball fell kindly to new boy Alex Reid who fired home from close range on his debut
Although they had the better chances of the half
Gosport found themselves lucky to be level at half time
after two greatchances from the Stones weren’t converted just before half time
Two changes during the interval for Wealdstone
as Max Kretzschnar and Anthony Georgiou replaced Dominic Hutchinson and Brandon Mason
Into the second half and it was Wealdstone who got the first big chance
An audacious bicycle kick attempt from Henry Sandat bounced through a crowd of players
the two substitutes for Wealdstone combined to break the deadlock at The Vale
Georgiou fizzed in a ball across the box from the left-hand side and Kretzschnar was first to meet it
Things went from bad to worse for Gosport as their centre back Joseph Morrison was shown a red card after he pulled down Reid who was the last man and through on goal
Samuel Ashford was the next Stones player to be substituted to make way for Craig Eastmond
for his first appearance of the season for Wealdstone
Reid doubled his goal tally on his debut in the 88th minute
A mix-up from Gosport’s defence left Reid one on one with the keeper
and he calmly rounded Gosney and finished to make it 3-1 to Wealdstone
Reid rounded off a superb debut with a hattrick and wrapped up the game from the penalty spot
after Micah Obiero was tripped up in the box
as an Alex Reid hat-trick helped send the Stones into the hat for the First Round of the FA Cup
Gosport Borough were deserved winners in the FA Trophy as they defeated Worthing on penalties at the Sussex Transport Community Stadium
On the back of back-to-back National League South wins
Chris Agutter’s side turned their attention to the Isuzu FA Trophy and to a home tie against Gosport Borough of the Southern League Premier South
Agutter named an unchanged eleven from Tuesday night’s win away at Salisbury and had the luxury of naming two extra substitutes which meant that there was room for Ollie Black and Cooper Renzulli on the bench
It took both sides a little while to acclimatise to conditions with the blistering winds from Storm Darragh arguably having the biggest impact on the contest in the early stages
The Rebels were not only unchanged in personnel
as they dominated possession in a low-key first half
the Rebels weren’t creating too much by way of chances and it was actually the visitors who had the first effort at goal
Alfie Young gave possession away to Samuel Faniyan and he looked to catch Chris Haigh out of position
but the keeper recovered well to make the save
the Rebels built from back to front to get themselves in front
It was Joel Colbran whose cross from the right that caused chaos in the Gosport penalty area
could only manage to turn it into his own net to hand Worthing the lead
Danny Cashman struck the woodwork for Worthing
He had a free kick just outside of the box on the left that he whipped into the near post and it struck the upright and bounced wide
Kane Wills looked to drive an effort goalwards from the edge of the box
but his effort went narrowly wide and Worthing’s one-goal lead remained into the interval
The visitors started the second half much brighter and had their best opportunity yet on 50 minutes when Samuel Faniyan cut inside from the left and shot with his right foot towards the near post
As Haigh dived towards the far post in anticipation
he did well to make the save with his feet and forced it wide for a corner
The Rebels had a flurry of chances over the next ten minutes
but all of which were from outside of the penalty box and not too troubling for Charlie Philpot in the Boro goal
Sam Beard and Cashman all tried their luck in a ten-minute spell on top
but none of them could double their team’s advantage
This gave life to the visitors and they had a golden chance through their talisman Dan Wooden on 65 minutes
He got in behind and went one-on-one with Haigh
but the Worthing shot-stopper did brilliantly in coming out to make the save
Boro squandered another massive opportunity
Fanyian broke away and got into the penalty area with Asher Yearwood unmarked to his left
Faniyan over hit his square pass to Yearwood
Looking to shore things up under increasing pressure
Agutter turned to his bench and brought on Glen Rea in place of Harrison Smith
Haigh was called into action again and had to make a quite remarkable one-handed save to deny Yearwood who was bearing down on goal
Yearwood looked to lift his shot over Haigh and the keeper produced a fantastic reflex save to tip it over the bar
with Sam Packham and Ollie Starkey making way for Joe Cook and Ollie Black
Yearwood went one-on-one once more and Haigh was brave in taking the ball away from his feet
It was kept alive by Faniyan who tried his luck at goal
but Worthing’s defenders combined to collectively clear the ball away off the line
Faniyan struck the post moments later as they continued to push for the leveller
He shot from a tight angle on the right side of the box and the ball cannoned back off the upright
the Rebels weren’t able to prevent the inevitable
Haigh was left with a lot to do from Rea’s back pass and Wooden was able to take full advantage
winning the loose ball in a battle with Haigh to give himself an open goal to hammer the ball into to send us to a penalty shootout
both sides failed to convert their second penalties as Colbran blazed his over
It was 2-2 after three penalties each and Young was up next for Worthing
Bradley Tarbuck converted the following penalty to give his side the lead
Temi Babalola then took next knowing that he had to score to keep his side alive
but his penalty rebounded out off the crossbar and Worthing exited the Isuzu FA Trophy
They turn their attention back to the National League South next week as they welcome St Albans City to the Sussex Transport Community Stadium

HAMPSHIRE CONSTABULARY have announced they have launched an ‘urgent’ appeal for witnesses and information to help their continuing investigation following a serious incident in Gosport late last month; which saw a forty-one year old man arrested following a report of an assault close to the ‘Household Waste Recycling Centre’ along Grange Road

An area close to the Recycling Centre was also closed whilst enquiries were made and medical treatment was provided to the victim
A man from Gosport was arrested on suspicion of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent and it is unclear on whether charges will be made with this investigation still ongoing
Detectives are hoping to speak with anybody who may have witnessed the incident unfolding as well as those with potential video and Dash-cam footage that would help

Oxford City bowed out of the Emirates FA Cup with a 3-2 defeat to Gosport Borough at Court Place Farm
Leading through an Alfie Potter goal before the break
City fell 3-1 behind through an Asher Yearwood goal and two from Dan Wooden and despite a Jayden Carbon goal to make it 3-2 City could find no way through a stubborn Boro defence that held firm to go into Monday's draw
Potter's goal looked to have put the Hoops in the driving seat
Oxford passed the ball beautifully around the edge of the box
Josh Ashby was eventually able to slide the ball across the face of goal where Potter was arriving
who neatly tucked it under visiting keeper Ryan Gosport.
City could have had their name in the hat by half time, Zac McEachran had a shot saved after Carbon’s fancy footwork down the right-hand side released Potter who squared it to McEachran
but his half volley couldn’t beat Gosney who came to the rescue once again as Parker’s chested lay off into the path of McEachran allowed City to switch the ball over to Potter
but Gosney rushed out and smothered well.
After the break City were left to regret not finishing off their chances when Gosport equalised in the 53rd minute
Yearwood running in behind the Hoops’ defence and slotting it past Rylee Mitchell
Even a scrambling Lewis Coyle couldn’t prevent it from crossing the line.
While Oxford tried to get back into the game
playing a long ball down the line and captain Dan Wooden’s left footed shot rocketed past Mitchell to put the visitors up from a tight angle
A Carbon goal midway through the second half gave City hope when he turned in a cross from Lewis Coyle
but City found it difficult to break through a sturdy Gosport backline who fought for everything and who we wish well in the next round
