dotted with fields of ponies and commemorative plaques to steam age pioneers Roving bands of career burglars stalk the area “They come every day whether you’re inside or not,” explains one local man from behind his wheelie bin “They don’t seem to care.” Everything is up for grabs from Amazon packages in doorways to the Lexus in the drive “The police gave up on this area years ago,” one shrugging resident explains a service recently used by Reform UK after the alleged assault of a police officer at Manchester Airport Between the squeezed belts and the unsolved crime it’s little wonder post-austerity Britain has conjured an alternative: My Local Bobby the erstwhile detective’s career in the Met ended after a mob boss put a bounty on his head the man described by a former colleague “as a force of nature” runs Britain’s most successful private policing force from an Essex office “There is demand for our services on a daily basis” right across the country When his team meets with prospective clients he reports “a general sense that crime and anti-social behaviour is out of control and no one is doing anything about it” McKelvey claims to provide an “old fashioned” alternative to modern British policing, and one now being promised by the home secretary where his team has its most established presence he says his officers now respond to incidents before the police nine times in 10 By Mary Harrington “Most people just want a uniformed presence back on the street that gathers intelligence and catches criminals,” says McKelvey. “It’s not rocket science.” It’s certainly an approach that’s popular: British businesses and residents will soon spend £10 billion on private security, even as the Home Secretary has promised “a named officer for every community” It nonetheless seems beyond the present capabilities of the public sector it recently cost £1 million to pay mostly overtime officers to patrol a crime hotspot for just 15 minutes once every three days That surely begs a question: why is it now so hard for the police to perform their most basic functions alongside the many other former and serving officers I spoke to the answer amounts to an unprecedented institutional crisis to say nothing of a “Spanish Inquisition” culture that leaves officers now “afraid to arrest suspects” A worrying focus on “low hanging fruit” around communication offences hardly helps either even as they lament leadership that wanted to “solve societal ills” instead of busting criminals “Small teams [are] given autonomy and allowed to solve problems,” adds Dominic Adler, a former detective constable who now writes excoriating critiques of modern British policing on his Substack not the bizarre bureaucratic behemoth that couldn’t find its arse with a map that exists.” Indeed the current crisis is about more than staffing or austerity “The post-Blair legal consensus was the knife that went into the police,” he says “Theresa May and austerity twisted the knife and killed it.” A day-to-day experience of working in the police that Adler compares to Terry Gilliam’s dystopian film Brazil: leaving the station to arrest people involves satisfying a dizzying number of rules has cultivated a procedurally obsessed management that resembles a “colonial police force made up of elite imperial seniors leading baffled local levies who can’t be arsed to point out the emperor is naked” a former policeman who now runs My Local Bobby’s patrols in North London this reality only struck him once he’d left the force After spotting a man with a number plate down his trousers in North London he and his team spent a week surveilling a burglary team across the South East “We were watching them as they were breaking into houses,” Carl says By Fred Skulthorp Carl’s freedom to pursue ground intelligence across North London has resulted in the arrest of numerous burglary teams But this is essentially a privately-funded outsourcing of the Met’s old operation which for its part has all but defunded its burglary investigation teams across London community WhatsApp groups abound with rumours of the help available to more affluent neighbours Yet if these private efforts are successful on their own terms — My Local Bobby helped cut vehicle crime in Hadley Wood by 38% — communally financing can be tough One man in Fulham describes how a neighbour who chose not to pay for the road’s private security team discovered that they were contractually obliged to stand by as his house was robbed He describes how the end of his road has turned into a “hotspot for crack addicts and drug dealers” that left residents afraid to venture out after dark What followed was a three-month struggle that saw him deal with the council and eventually enquire about the services of a company called Shoreditch Security: which ultimately gave residents a quote of £1,000 a week “We all pay taxes and extensive council tax,” Paul says “We should at a basic level already feel protected.” none of this would matter if the actual police worked as intended outfits like My Local Bobby wouldn’t have a market “We’ve lost sight of who and what policing is for,” he tells me “Its present state appeals to a tiny elite minority who only understand how bad it is until they get their car stolen A total root-and-branch redrawing so we can return to the original reason it was set up: to gather intelligence locally and nick people.” locals now seem blissfully unaware of the growing tensions of the 21st-century English social contract they’ve managed to leave behind officers predict something far grimmer: a growing mix of private security alongside failing institutional forces and an appetite for public vigilantism “There’ll be a situation where the police really lose the streets,” Adler warns “and the public will look at the Government and say ‘what the fuck’s actually going on here?’” In Hadley Wood a quieter form of that reckoning has already begun Fred Sculthorp is Indeed, Pochettino publicly said he wants to come back to Tottenham one day and there has been some excitement brewing about Pochettino getting the Spurs job Ange Postecoglou is under pressure at the moment, and the fires were further stoked by an image on social media that did the rounds of Daniel Levy and Pochettino together at a café It’s unclear whether that photo is new or if it’s an old image that has resurfaced Pochettino does still spend a lot of time in London while he’s also in contact with Daniel Levy on a semi-regular basis Pitt-Brooke shared what he knows about Pochettino and his relationship with Daniel Levy as things stand Pochettino wanted the Tottenham job before Ange Postecoglou was appointed However, Levy never even called Pochettino at that time clear up something else for me because of course the internet which started out as a source of information the thing that confuses us more than anything This photograph of Pochettino and Daniel Levy outside is it called Limes or Lines in Hadley Wood a coffee bar in Hadley Wood in their puffer jackets?” The host asked. “Everyone was going crazy about it on social media or was that a different coffee shop and a different day?” Jay Harris replied saying it was unclear whether the image was new while Pitt-Brooke then shared some insight into Pochettino and how much time he spends is London as well as his relationship with Daniel Levy He kind of divides his time between London and Barcelona and Atlanta “He’s going to come to games quite a lot in Europe I know obviously some people see that and think If he was actually in negotiations to get the Tottenham job “Do you think he’d be doing it in a cafe in North London “He wouldn’t be doing it over an oat milk latte in Hadley Wood But also Pochettino has said that he talks to Daniel Levy “He’s still got a good relationship with Levy So I know it’s obviously the photos have certainly got people talking and I get that But I wouldn’t extrapolate too much from the existence of the photo “All the photo says to me is that they’re still talking.” Whether or not Pochettino is in line for a return to Tottenham is unclear he did a better job first time around than Ange Postecoglou has been doing in recent times Postecoglou has taken Tottenham to their lowest ebb in decades Spurs sit 15th in the Premier League at the moment and they’re not going to win a domestic trophy this season either The stats show that Pochettino was a better manager for Spurs than Postecoglou currently is the old saying in football is ‘never go back’ Spurs would be better off re-appointing their most successful manager of the 21st century and bringing the Posteocglou chapter to a close TV chef and luxury event planner Bola Obileye is in love with Hadley Wood She tells Emma Magnus why living on the edge of London offers the best of both worlds Where to live I moved to Hadley Wood about 18 years ago from Kent We came to visit a friend in Hadley Wood and I fell in love with the area We found what was probably the littlest house in Hadley Wood at the time and started to dream of how we could extend it The charm of Hadley Wood is that it’s a wonderful community I love that it’s so safe here and how self-sufficient we are You’re just not going to get the same thing in London and it’s amazing that this is so close to the heart of London There are about 10 to 20 top-notch restaurants there My favourite place for breakfast is Miracles I order the regular English breakfast and load it up with mushrooms and egg as well as Hadley Wood Association on Crescent East where there’s a tennis court and a playground Living on the outskirts of London is the best of both worlds but the middle of London is less than half an hour away 35-acre natural space that belongs to the West Lodge Park Hotel you can have a drink or coffee in the restaurant One of the best bits about being here is all the fresh food that you have access to Parkside Farm on Hadley Road is very close to us — you can go and pick your own organic vegetables There’s a Fios Food Centre on Cockfosters Parade The Londis on Crescent West is run by the friendliest couple You go in and they make you feel like family the owners offered home delivery services of newspapers and shopping to elderly people who couldn’t get out which helped them feel connected to the outside world I’ve loved them and I’ve never been able to communicate that to them There’s Chickenshed Theatre on Chase Side in Southgate and the Hadley Wood Association holds events for the community has created a space where the door is open to everyone There’s only one bus that goes into Hadley Wood We have a mainline station, which is in Zone 6, and it’s only 17 minutes to Finsbury Park The nearest Underground station is Cockfosters I always imagine how grand their kitchens must be I don’t think there’s another community I know of that throws a better fireworks party than Hadley Wood It’s such a lovely event for neighbours to meet and bond The fact that there’s only one bus coming into Hadley Wood Bola Obileye is a resident chef on Channel 4’s Steph’s Packed Lunch and appeared in Gordon Ramsay’s Future Food chink of light was that the necessity of maintaining communal life online enabled Rabbi Rosenblatt and his wife Batya to connect speedily with members of the north London shul including Zoom participants who might not have attended physical services Through building those relations and positive word of mouth the rabbi can not only report an upsurge in numbers with 100 new recruits swelling adult membership to around 350 “The cheder run by my wife has doubled in numbers since we joined and we are expecting 150 people for a shul barbecue which is a nice number for a smaller community.” His confidence in Hadley Wood’s potential is evidenced by plans for a local eruv — which would link up with the existing Barnet eruv — and the launch of a branch of the emergency service Hatzola in conjunction with the Barnet and Southgate communities “Non-judgemental” and “welcoming” are common observations about the congregation housing in the proximity of the shul can be “quite expensive” Membership has been attracted from a wide area and there is the unspoken understanding that many could not attend services on foot travels from Shenley in Hertfordshire on Shabbat.Although there are numerous congregations closer to his home he wanted to find “somewhere I felt I belonged more” and friends had recommended Hadley Wood “I’m not massively religious but want to be able to take part,” he explained “I went to a service and the rest is history Bigger shuls haven’t moved fast enough to accommodate those who are less religious.” He believes Rabbi Rosenblatt is pivotal to the shul’s growth.“He’s young You can talk to him about football on WhatsApp.” Greene is sometimes accompanied to services by his ten-year-old daughter and reports the shul is “very kid friendly” one of our first visitors was the rabbi,” she recalled “We ended up chatting for an hour.” Ross said Hadley Wood was “not your typical north London shul There’s lots of young families and lots of intergenerational contact which with [three] kids makes it easier.” She also appreciated the rabbi’s support for women’s involvement adding that she was hosting a women-only Kabbalat Shabbat service Shul chair David Allen said its expansion was a testament to the quality of provision There was “a great reaction” from first-timers at services but the shul also offered a range of social and cultural activities including fitness sessions Rabbi Rosenblatt continues to devote significant energy to maintaining contact with those who do not attend services they say there’s a warmth [of welcome] and they don’t feel second class,” he noted “But sometimes people are uncomfortable when they can’t read Hebrew.” After negotiating various planning hurdles And Allen says that despite the and he is relishing the change in career direction that the role offers Frances spent just over three years as the head PGA Professional at North Middlesex Golf Club before moving to fresh pastures at the start of February He has swapped a pro shop for an office environment taking on a diverse remit that includes delivering golf society days liaising with Hadley Wood’s green-keeping team and playing a part in outreach projects that seek to promote the golf club in the wider community you’ve got to have a lot more on your CV to progress further in your career being a business or custom fitting or any other aspect of golf So I thought it was a bit more of a different career path that I wanted to try for quite a while.” His interest in life beyond a pro shop was kindled during the early stages of the Covid pandemic As golf clubs adjusted to the challenges accompanying the pandemic Frances found himself getting stuck into work that he’d had little or no previous involvement in learning about the business of golf and then putting his newly-acquired knowledge into practice Not only did he help with the admin relating to membership renewals he also contributed to North Middlesex gaining a raft of new golfers “It opened my eyes to how much a golf club has got to do to keep themselves alive,” said Frances reflecting on his initial office experience But I wanted to know a bit more about the integral parts of a golf club – the day-to-day running of it basically Through my time at North Middlesex where I was taking on roles left I think I fell into that category into quite easily.” But Jack also outlined how that the education provided by the PGA Foundation Degree course has given him a great framework for a career within different elements of the golf industry “Through the Foundation Degree you learn a lot,” he said “It’s good that it’s split into four different sections: sports science My favourite part was the business side of it I think that’s really held me in in good stead going forward in this job.” The golf operations supervisor role is a new one for Frances – and Hadley Wood as well as with the club’s existing stakeholders There’s a marketing aspect to the position and Frances is involved in what he refers to as “community outreach programmes” connecting with local schools and other sectors of society in the vicinity While fulfilling the brief in terms of his new job is taking up much of Frances’ attention there will still be room this season for his love of competition golf Often competitive on his outings in the East region he has recorded pro-am successes in each of the last two years He’s also been victorious in the Searles Spring Classic and plans to launch his tournament programme at the same event (April 26-27 “I’m looking forward to playing this year,” he said I will be getting stuck into those – and hopefully winning a few more events.” He’ll certainly have a bit more time available to practise than in the past After summer Saturdays and Sundays based in the pro shop Frances’ new role means he’s no longer working at weekends Yet another upside to life for the golf operations supervisor at Hadley in keeping with the five-star service the venue provides It almost goes without saying that a club of this calibre has extensive practice facilities which include a grass bay range a chipping green and extensive putting green downhill opening par five eases golfers into the round before the pace begins to quicken MacKenzie’s ethos in design centred around making a course fun to play meaning holes regularly offer a variety of strategic choices A generous fairway on the second belies the green’s false front which happily rejects anything short A pretty hole; the severity of the slope on the green makes putting a challenge so staying below the hole is essential Investing in a course guide can help to plan ahead for the playful the course is not set out to unduly punish the golfer or to make life deliberately awkward The par 4 fourth is an excellent example of MacKenzie’s work there is the temptation to carry over the woodblock from the tee if feeling bold though a straight long iron carries far less risk to find the middle of the fairway A trademark raised plateau green with two undulating levels awaits the approach shot which almost resemble fingers in their shaping The runoff at the front of the green and gradient between the levels requires a skilful shot to find the optimal part of the green MacKenzie harnessed the best of the available scenery in all areas of the estate Even at the most low-lying point of the course the par three 10th has an intimidating double carry over water which is both stunning and fearsome The lake shouldn’t really be in play (though some of my playing partners managed to prove otherwise) but the brook and bunkering to the front will ensnare anything short If you can keep the demons in your mind at bay executing a decent long iron will set up a good start to the second half of the course The greens at Hadley Wood have been sculpted and crafted to the highest specification of which the 12th is probably the pick of a very fine bunch After an immensely satisfying downhill drive from up near the clubhouse the second shot is played slightly uphill to a raised The gradient is severe enough to reject balls which find the wrong area though for TV style drama; landing long of the flag and watching the ball gradually creep back down towards it is a very satisfying sight indeed The fairways at Hadley Wood sweep grandly around ancient woodblocks; this land was previously a royal hunting ground and has lost none of its imposing majesty Both the 13th and 14th make the most of this grand scenery as they meander around mature trees and traverse up and downhill towards the greens This variety in aspect and the affect the undulations have on both stance and ball position continue to make the course interesting This pretty par three is played over a valley to a green framed by the woodblock beyond There is a decent gradient on the green to contend with which means that playing to the front and leaving an uphill putt would be ideal Bunkers and a (now familiar) runoff area lie in wait to punish anything that doesn’t reach the green though the club goes out of its way to make the experience about more than just 18 holes The unique and impressive clubhouse is utilised to create a retreat where golfers can relax and enjoy the scenic surroundings The club made a decision to recruit a highly skilled food and beverage team from a nearby country house estate which has paid dividends judging by the quality of the food on offer This five star service has definitely been sustained into the 2019 season Hadley Wood has been designed to satisfy a golfer’s every wish and the independent feedback the club continues to receive from Golfshake members demonstrates the team are doing a superb job of delivering If you haven’t experienced the excellent golf and outstanding service this club provides this should be right at the top of your to do list • Breathe in the beautiful views but be alert to the clever course design • The greens are quick and slick meaning putting uphill keeps the heart rate down • Stay for lunch - the food is outstanding Club Facilities & 19th/Clubhouse - 9 Related Content: review Hadley Wood course What do you think? post your thoughts and feedback on the Golfshake Forum: https://forum.golfshake.com/ Tuition Series Golf Forums Golf Course Directory UK Golf Courses Tee Time Search Golf Inspired Search for Golf Courses Tee Time Search Weekly Tour News Industry News Rating & Reviews Get a Golf Handicap Golfscoretracker Handicap Calculations Stat Tracking Cards Golfshake Services Terms, Cookies & Privacy Manukau CityAsking Price $919,000312Premium Affordable Entry Into Wattle Downs!Nestled in the heart of the sought after Wattle Downs 20 Hadley Wood Drive offers an incredible opportunity for those looking to break into this premium suburb at an affordable price point move-in-ready 3-bedroom home is elevated and ideally located just a short stroll from top schools a wide driveway leads to a spacious double garage with ample parking the layout offers two separate lounge areas The generous dining area is conveniently located near the kitchen and a separate laundry for added convenience The backyard courtyard provides a fantastic space for children and pets to burn off energy and it's a perfect spot for enjoying a summer BBQ with loved ones Fitted with two heat pumps and HRV the home can be kept warm and toasty all year round Whether you're looking to secure your first home or a solid investment in Wattle Downs your #1 Ray White sales team for Wattle Downs Disclaimer - All prospective purchasers shall complete their own due diligence and satisfy themselves with respect to information supplied during the marketing of this property including but not limited to: the floor and land sizes based on a borrower’s individual credit assessment.Canstar's Most Awarded Personal LoanGet a renovation loan up to $70K and bring your vision to life we can approve your home improvement loan quickly and get your renovation started of South Hadley was diagnosed in January with a rare brain stem cancer and is seeking treatment at Boston Children’s Hospital was diagnosed in January with a rare brain stem cancer and is seeking treatment at Boston Children’s Hospital SOUTH HADLEY — Naomi Wood arrived at Plains Elementary School to pick up her 6-year-old son when she noticed him stumbling across the playground she took Hunter to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield and the doctors would simply suggest a visit to the optometrist for glasses or So when doctors found a tumor the size of a golf ball on Hunter’s brain stem Wood felt her and her family’s lives turn upside-down you’ll do anything to help them,” Wood said Since Hunter was diagnosed with diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma a highly aggressive and fast-growing brain tumor Wood routinely shares and updates his story on social media A GoFundMe started by Wood’s best friend Lauren Hunt to cover medical expenses has raised $18,000 since its launch three weeks ago Wood hopes her transparency brings more awareness to childhood cancer and maybe conjures up a miracle “We’re not looking to be rich; Advertising on our site helps support our mission. We do not endorse non-Cleveland Clinic products or services. Policy The aim of Urology – also known as the “Gold Journal” in the field – is to provide practical timely and relevant clinical and scientific information to physicians and researchers worldwide who specializes in genitourinary reconstruction with a focus on adults with congenital conditions has been section editor of the journal’s urological congenitalism section since 2014 Wood about her vision as Urology’s new editor-in-chief and the link between that role and her clinical practice and research It’s one of the seminal journals in urology Klein’s tenure as editor-in-chief and transitioning into mine the journal has evolved to be the go-to place for voices and topics that have had limited publication options despite high-quality output These topics include issues surrounding workforce global care and emerging diagnostics among others The Gold Journal is the official journal of the Society of Women in Urology and we had two special publications last year: one focusing on diversity and the other on female urology The journal also has a relationship with the Society of Genitourinary Reconstructive Society of which I am a member and have been on the board articles on reconstructive urology and its subspecialities our hope is to develop content that is relevant not just to urologists but to all people who are practicing urology We’d also like to move a lot of our content into digital spaces so it’s easily accessible and in real time As part of publisher Elsevier’s goal to achieve net zero emissions by 2040 we will decrease the actual printed content by almost half over the course of the next year or so But we will be moving a lot of that content into digital platforms and using more modern techniques to allow people to access content that is on their phones The big focus of 2024 will be streamlining the written content and making sure that our full offering includes opportunities for broader readership to understand and interpret the science we publish One of the things I’m looking forward to is working with editors of the other major journals to really think about how we can drive publishing to meet the needs of our current and future workforce I think there’s an opportunity to collaborate in our shared mission to expand and improve our specialty I think there has been a lot of movement toward that A lot of urologists in private practice or large group practices who aren’t academicians don’t think to read the major journals because they aren’t getting content that is relevant to their everyday work I hope to help bring that to them while maintaining excellent methodologic review so we can make sure the material isn’t just reaching them but has been vetted through a solid peer review process I discovered there are actually two reconstructive urology subspecialties – female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery and genitourinary reconstructive surgery (GURS) focused primarily on males and consisting of a fairly narrow band of procedures And off to the side were things like bladder reconstruction GURS decided there was a real need to open the doors and have a bigger tent I saw an opportunity to become a reconstructive urologist and focus my research and clinical practice on caring for patients born with complex congenital anomalies such as bladder exstrophy and spina bifida which has grown into four main areas: transgender care I’ve been engaged for a long time in diversity and workforce issues both of which relate to my goals as editor-in-chief I was President of the Women’s Professional Staff Association at Cleveland Clinic and a founding surgeon of the Northeast Ohio Women in Surgery Program I also served on the American Urology Association’s Taskforce on Diversity and Inclusion and I am co-director of a program called PROSPECT that provides didactic teaching and mentored research opportunities for underrepresented minority medical students between their first and second year That’s the kind of work I’ve done along the way and it’s a passion I hope to bring to the journal and our department and specialty I’ve been on the faculty of the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University since 2011 and previously served as Medical Director of the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Program I developed an education curriculum that ultimately became the American Urology Association’s urology training program modules for APPs All of that was based on my experience at Cleveland Clinic where we were at the forefront integrating APPs into a very high-level urology care environment there’s really very little formal infrastructure to help them become practicing urologists we have many APPs functioning both as general urologists and within urological subspecialties and pairing them with urologists to ensure we maintain excellent care while at the same time ensuring access for our patients academic publishing hasn’t really moved the needle to ensure that the literature is both relevant and digestible for our ever-evolving workforce Advertisement The low anterior access approach using the single-port robot is gaining attention Mae was watching Netflix thriller Dead To Me while Alli played pool with his friends downstairs when two masked men appeared and failed to rip rings and bracelets off her as she tried to protect their dog Uno, the Sun newspaper reported. “They roughed up Dele and forced him upstairs with them into the wardrobe area, which is separated from the bedroom,” she told the Sun. “I couldn’t see the door from the bed but Dele’s friend came up first. They came to me in a panic and I instantly realised something was wrong. His friend wouldn’t have usually come into the bedroom. “Behind the friend, towards the door was what looked like a silhouette. I was confused and said, ‘Dele?’ and the guy didn’t answer. “I realised this guy was not the same height or body structure as Dele. He came over to me and was very intimidating. “He started asking me where everything was while trying to take off my bracelets and rings.” Mae said she “honestly didn’t know what was going to come next”, describing the incident as movie-like. The model said she was in “shock” as the robber asked her questions, with her first instinct to “protect the dog”. She said: “I couldn’t get the jewellery off as I was panicking and holding the dog behind me. I wasn’t answering his requests and I was terrified they were going to hurt Uno. “I didn’t know whether to tell them or not, and I didn’t even know where everything was. I wasn’t thinking straight. “It was terrifying. I was just hoping for it all to be over and for us to be safe.” Mae said the raiders began to panic when they realised how long they had been in the house, and they “jumped the fence out the front and ran away with whatever they had both managed to find”. “It affected all of us,” she said. “To get burgled is one thing, but to get burgled when you’re in is so scary. All of us were speechless. “It was all very traumatic. Psychologically, it has had an impact. Being home alone is scarier than it once was. “Every now and then I still think about it. I can’t believe it happened. It was awful.” No arrests were made in relation to the incident, the Sun reported. “It’s a pretty weird feeling knowing the people who did it never got caught and are still out there,” Mae added. Stephen Lawrence family’s heartache ahead of what would’ve been his 50th birthday ‘Burglar’ falls 20ft from roof during suspected raid on £4m north London enclave Tributes to ‘loving’ graduate, 28, shot dead in Kilburn by gunman on moped Met Police detective sacked after shoplifting £99 shoes from M&S The PC of 15 years claimed she thought his money came from working as a chef to professional footballers, and she tried to paint him as “controlling”. But the tribunal concluded: “Mr Agalliu in our view was not hiding his drug use within the home. There were drugs and the means to supply them clearly evident in her home and we are satisfied she knew they were there.” At Woolwich crown court on Thursday, Agalliu was jailed for 18 years, while his associate Daniel McNeil-Duncan was sentenced to 17 years in prison. Agalliu was convicted by a jury of supplying class A and class B, while McNeil-Duncan, 37, from Brentwood in Essex, pleaded guilty to two charges of conspiracy to supply drugs midway through their trial. The court heard how Agalliu boasted to associates about being married to a Met Police officer and was even asked to seek inside information from her as the net closed in on the EncroChat system in June 2020. When their home was raided, officers uncovered messages referring to 100kg packages, cocaine parcels stamped with the ‘Hublot’ brand, evidence of drug exchanges, and a conversation about a possible gun deal. Agalliu, who claimed to work in ballet as an “artist”, suggested he had been “set up”, but was faced with overwhelming evidence of his drug operation during the trial. He used the alias ‘Nicemoon’ on EncroChat – a communication system favoured by organised crime which had been infiltrated in an international law enforcement breakthrough. “They thought their communications were encrypted, so secure and police would never be able to read them. As a result, they were somewhat careless with messages they sent to each other”, said prosecutor William Davis. Agalliu gave himself away as the operator of the ‘Nicemoon’ account by posting pictures of his luxury home and children, as well as references to driving his wife to work at Kensington police station. In one exchange, Agalliu boasted that his wife has been promoted to Sergeant in the Met, and he sent her a copy of a police report for verification when a friend had been arrested. When it had become clear the EncroChat network had been infiltrated by law enforcement, Agalliu was asked if his wife knew about the operation. “Do she have any information?”, an associate said, adding: “What if she gets hold of the EncroChat? Tell her to hide the papers.” Police found drugs in a Louis Vuitton box under Agalliu’s bed, as well as £27,000 in cash at his home. PC Agalliu’s tribunal referred to the couple using cars worth £250,000, rent payments of £5000-a-month, and a property worth £1.8 million. “Her husband would earn between £1,000 and £4,000 a week for his work as a private chef working in footballers’ homes”, the tribunal said, of PC Agalliu’s evidence. “He would work weekends and sometimes after training he would go to their houses to cook. He was paid in cash.” The ruling continued: “She said she questioned how much her husband was getting from footballers and parties but was told to shut up and stay out of it and it was none of her business. It was put to her that they were living beyond their means. She said it was not her doing this, it was him.” Claims that drugs were planted at her home were rejected by the panel, who concluded she was guilty of gross misconduct. PC Agalliu was sacked, but did not face any criminal charges following the raid on her home. McNeil-Duncan had been in regular contact with Agalliu on EncroChat, and pleaded guilty after the court was shown damning evidence of their discussions about drugs supply. Agalliu, from Hadley Wood, denied but was convicted of conspiracy to supply class A drugs, conspiracy to supply class B drugs, possession with intent to supply cocaine, and possession of criminal property. English golf; a pontoon to take you over the lake to the green on the closing hole It has plenty of strong holes and is situated on beautifully manicured parkland inspired by Capability Brown the Palmerston runs largely between stately pine and oak and is more about keeping the ball straight It opened for play at the turn of the Millennium and makes for a perfect complement to the more dramatic Melbourne Blessed with a fabulous old clubhouse and two fine courses Essendon Country Club enjoys a surprisingly rural location Although the two courses are both parkland they are remarkably different in appearance and so offer something for all golfing tastes while a very unusual feature of the New is that the majority of the holes were built with alternative greens One of the best holes on the site is the long 10th on the Old which is played from an elevated tee before snaking its way to a partially hidden green This is a wonderfully relaxed and modern club with much to offer Read full Essendon Golf Club course review and a number of very strong par 4s including the 5th and 12th The Georgian clubhouse is also very impressive and Hadley Wood makes for an excellent golfing day out and one of the appealing features at Hanbury Manor is that the course has two quite diverse loops of nine played over contrasting terrain and the other was designed by an American almost ninety years later In fact it is now more than thirty years since Jack Nicklaus Junior added what is now the front nine a few years after what was originally the home of the Hanbury brewing family was developed into a luxury hotel Substantial Changes were made at the same time to Harry Vardon’s 9-holer including the introduction of USGA greens which are a strong feature throughout With its hybrid course offering real variety and fun Hanbury Manor is an excellent venue for societies and those seeking enjoyable golf with all the trimmings Read full Hanbury Manor Golf Club course review The club originally occupied the land and course now enjoyed by its near neighbours but moved to a different site less than a mile away just over 90 years ago they play over a slightly more undulating and very pretty parkland layout designed by Hawtree and Taylor It opens with a quartet of challenging par 4s before the shortest hole on the course You return to the clubhouse after the tough par-4 12th before a further loop of six that includes the final short hole at 16 followed by the second of the par 5s Read full Harpenden Common Golf Club course review The Hertfordshire is a course of two halves based around the impressive It was designed in the mid-1990s to fill a gap in the market and although it has a relatively gentle front nine there are still some good holes here such as the two shotters at seven and eight it is a course that generally improves all the way with the best saves for the closing six holes and three tough par 4s that are all interesting and memorable Harry Colt designed both courses at Moor Park in 1923 the championship-standard High and the sporty and very entertaining West The High has staged many notable professional and amateur events the West is just as much fun while a little more forgiving Another highlight is the remarkable clubhouse a 17th-century Palladian mansion decorated with fine art throughout Moor Park offers an excellent 36-hole day out Nestling just a couple of miles inside the junction of the M25 and the A1, Old Fold Manor is a Harry Colt design that was used for regional qualifying for The Open from 2006 to 2010 but nowadays most of the rumpled fairways are separated by trees This is a course of strength-in-depth rather than signature holes and opens with six straight mid-length par 4s It’s a tap-in short of 6,400 yards from the white tees and renowned for its excellent but tricky greens Although it starts with one that is driveable but well bunkered it is a number of longer par 4s that define Porters Park and set its greatest challenges but it is believed to have been the work of Cuthbert Butchart who also designed West Hill some of the course was used for crops during WWII tree-lined and gently undulating course has a stream crossing a number of holes and just two par 5s This is a strong and attractive course at a very good members’ club that deserves to be better known In a county where the strongest and most famous courses are generally parkland in nature Royston makes for a surprising and very pleasing alternative Situated on the northern fringes of the county It runs over a north-facing slope overlooking neighbouring Cambridgeshire there are times when the elevation changes and the wind make the precise yardage almost irrelevant There are particularly strong and characterful short holes at the 5th and 10th and an unusually long walk from the charming clubhouse to the course which means that most people drive to the adjacent public car park who had by then won four of his record six Open Championships and there are now more trees which have changed some of its linksy character but today’s course remains largely faithful to its roots The club’s motto is ‘In Arena Virtus’ This is very appropriate as it is the nature of the gently undulating turf that defines the appeal of this charming and varied course Golfing legend Seve Ballesteros is not quite so well-known for his course design but there is no doubt that his only creation in England bears all the hallmarks of his flair and unconventional approach The Shire London is an extremely friendly club where the emphasis is on fun The course itself is a fascinating mix of six short holes climaxing at the par-4 closing hole which rises gently back up to the relaxing clubhouse via a green surrounded by a lake that is S (for Seve)-shaped This is a course that should appeal to any golfer looking for excitement and drama The club is not resting on its laurels and recently appointed European Golf Design to begin an upgrade starting in Autumn 2022 Read The Shire London course review the parkland course at Welwyn Garden City is just across the A1 from Brocket Hall but the courses and club are remarkably different This is also the original home of arguably the greatest British golfer of the modern era with greater change in elevation as you head up towards the handful of holes on the other side of Brockswood Lane the 12th to the 16th holes include two par 3s and three drive and pitch par 4s This is effectively the section that makes or breaks a score Welwyn Garden City offers very good value golf with a course that’s just that bit different Alister MacKenzie made further modifications a century ago There is an unusual par imbalance with 34 going out and 38 back but variety is the spice of life and three shortish par 5s in the last seven holes present good scoring opportunities Close to many of the best golf courses in London Hertfordshire has golf to suit pretty much all tastes and budgets then while and the winner will be drawn using a random number generator Gambling Commission rules say that anyone thinking of “raffling” a property must be sure their scheme counts as a competition rather than “a lottery” Running an unauthorised lottery can lead to a year in jail and a £5,000 fine A lottery requires buying tickets and getting lucky a property raffle must be a competition requiring some skill on the part of the entrant This is why all property raffles require entrants to answer a question as well as buy a ticket The Gambling Commission may take a dim view of a question that is too easy there must also be an opportunity to enter for free so most property raffles allow one free postal entry per person If the question is deemed difficult enough Raffling property has become increasingly popular in the UK over the past year as homeowners struggle to achieve sale prices as high as they want or need for their homes
