submitted back in August 2020 by Augustus Quinn on behalf of a family of travellers
sought to turn the field into a small gypsy and traveller caravan site comprising two pitches
was withdrawn in November 2023 after the Government's Planning Inspectorate dismissed an appeal made by Mr Quinn against enforcement action taken by the district council over unauthorised building works on the land
A further plan to change the land to equestrian use
retain stables and hardstanding and make alterations to vehicle access was later lodged with district council planners in March 2024 and subsequently withdrawn in May 2024
has been witnessed by locals in recent days
with trucks reportedly seen delivering aggregate and a collection of caravans parked up on the land
Concerns about unauthorised development of the countryside plot of land
located opposite Wassell Grove Business Centre
have prompted the district council to intervene again
A spokesperson for the local authority said: "A planning enforcement investigation regarding matters at this site is live and ongoing."
More than 240 people lodged objections to the plan to create a facility for travellers on the site
Planning documents said the land was owned at the time of the application by the Quinn family - a family with "an ongoing nomadic habit of life travelling between sites around the Midlands and occasionally abroad for work" and the site was needed to provide a home due to a shortage of council pitches in the area
this week told the Express & Star it is not known who the present landowner is

A man has been jailed for eight years for serious sexual offences in Edinburgh
of a woman between 2019 and 2021 at the High Court in Edinburgh on Monday
He was sentenced at the High Court in Stirling yesterday
He has also been placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely
Detective Inspector Keith Taylor said: “Hagley is a danger to women and his conviction proves that
He’ll now face the consequences of his despicable actions
which have had a devastating impact on the woman involved
“I’d like to commend her for her strength throughout the investigation and court proceedings
I hope this sentencing will bring some form of justice as she continues to move forward with her life

A village whose residents are smiley and welcoming
saying hello to one another as they walk down the street
it could be the local Batham's-serving pub
The Express & Star's Love Your Neighbourhood feature explores the best of the West Midlands
church wardens and shoppers about what they love about their area
a village with a population of around 7,000
and just eight miles from the middle of Dudley
Its tranquil location at the foot of the Clent Hills
have long made it a popular choice for commuters
introducing a Co-op Food and a chain barbershop
it remains largely populated by independent businesses - and some really good ones at that
not only is this lovely community largely self-sufficient
but it attracts people that are looking for goods and services they might not find elsewhere
My eye was instantly drawn to The Butcheress in all its hot pink glory
has only been serving the people of Hagley for 18 months after bringing her Bromsgrove branch to Dudley
"The village is accessible to everywhere; Birmingham
and the great neighbourhood watch team keeping their village safe
there's a barbers next door where lads can get their hair done
and the pub that we can take staff to after work
it's a nice small community with a great spirit
And we like to do our bit to keep them happy
"The neighbourhood watch team is really good as well
we all feel safe here especially when we start early in the morning."
We went next door to Ikon barbershop which
despite having branches across the West Midlands
you walk past people and they'll say hello
and if I want to go and watch the game after work I can go to West One or the Station
Will was a pupil at the nearby Haybridge School growing up
and it was a great school as well," he said
we met grandparents Dot and Chris with their grandson James
They were enjoying a spot of lunch on the terrace in the warm weather
and spoke highly of the village they live in
"We've got everything we need here," said Dot
you only need to walk through the park and you're at the station," Chris added
saying the buses even run to the countryside
"James can ride his bike around here and there are no worries."
Tom is the vicar of Saint Saviours church on Park Road and lives just around the corner
something that is very central to himself and the church
"That is really what the church has been about since the beginning of the Bible," said the vicar
which there is a fun little way of describing - hatch
we engage with community and that is what I really like about this."
I asked Tom if there was anything he would change about the area - his answer was a mutual one between the people of Hagley that I spoke to that day
"The only thing that I would say is that some people drive too fast
"I would urge them to be cautious so that we can be safe."
Resident John has lived in the village for more than forty years
He also likes the fact that you'll see a familiar face wherever you go
"You can walk into the village and see somebody you know," John said
I'm so proud of the village and everything it offers."
A prominent Stourbridge building on the main Hagley Road has been given a new lease of life as a wedding suit hire shop
The 1,308 sq ft property at 64 Hagley Road
which served as the headquarters for The Lee
Shaw Partnership estate agents' chain for more than 40 years
part of the Harris Lamb group of companies
were instructed to take the site to market and it's now been let to UK leading wedding suit supplier Peter Posh
which has launched its eighth showroom at the site
said: “A prominent building on Hagley Road with parking
this double fronted property lies within easy walking distance of Stourbridge town centre
it attracted a great deal of interest from potential occupiers
“The business has invested in a first-class refurbishment to bring the showroom in line with its other locations."
a Wolverhampton family tailoring business established in 1931
turned its attention in 1990 to crafting weddings suits and has become a leading supplier in the country
The business expanded to operate seven further showrooms throughout the West Midlands
as well as supplying Peter Posh suits to more than 250 independent retailers
will open the Hagley Art Club 35th Annual Exhibition on Friday
with his portrait of Sir Jack Hayward hanging at Molineux
So the club was delighted he accepted our invitation to open our event
Our artists know the pleasure of seeing their work exhibited too
and the Annual Exhibition is the highlight of the year
It is also very popular with local art lovers who enjoy the opportunity to view the work
It is also a chance to get some early Christmas gifts
and even buy that one-off personal piece of work for a loved one or even yourself - there is something for everyone
In the middle of the display is our lovely art cafe
We celebrated our 500th run in style - with a record breaking 973 finishers
who was at our first event on 4th October 2014 and hasn't missed many since
with a minute silence and a powerful karanga
to recognise the passing of our much loved Mike Asmussen
Mike has taken his barcode and yellow Achilles T-Shirt with him
It was only a few weeks ago that he shared his thoughts with us
and I would add to that his unwritten rule:
The 973 finishers included 95 doing their first ever parkun
and 90 people visiting Hagley parkrun from all over the globe
Our biggest hope is that you felt welcome and accepted as part of our parkrun community
I was at the first Hagley parkrun with 82 of us on 4th October 2014
and it's a supportive community that just keeps growing
Some of you have shared how life-changing being part of our healthy and supportive community has been
There have been 20,000 people join us for at least one parkrun
and the total distance covered by everyone is 745,000km - enough to go around the earthover 18 times
I believe the secret sauce is the energy of the volunteers - and many thanks to the 1,000 different people who have volunteered over our 500 events

Historic dams along the Brandywine River are helping the museum get off the electrical grid
The dam could generate enough electricity to power all county operations in Norristown
the museum began using the dam and historic equipment to generate power for the machine shop and to take it off the electrical grid
About five years ago, Hagley dug up a 200-year-old turbine buried under the mud for a century. Soon, this antique machinery joined forces with modern invention. The museum attached it to a new hydroelectric system to power up an electric shuttle bus that takes visitors around the museum and grounds
“Every time we use the electric shuttle instead of the gas shuttles
we’re probably saving about a gallon or more of gas
which is a significant reduction in the carbon footprint since the shuttle runs every 20 minutes,” Adams said
The Sustainable Energy Partnership of Southeastern Pennsylvania will set renewable energy guidelines in the coming months
Hagley’s ultimate goal is to get as much of the property off the grid as possible
The museum would like to power a whole fleet of vehicles
and possibly even power the visitor center and administrative buildings using the dams
“People in the 1890s figured this out without computers, AI, engineering software to support them, and they were able to figure out these complex systems using but not abusing the landscape to power all their equipment in their operations,” Adams said. “There’s really no excuse for why we can’t do more with waterpower in the 21st century.”

Today was our 10th anniversary of Hagley parkrun and what an amazing event
there have been 18,475 people parkrun at Hagley
A total distance of 690,000 kms or 17.25 times around the Earth
The birthday theme and amazing spot prizes were due to the efforts and creative genius of our volunteer team led by Lisa who contacted the businesses who provided our spot prizes and Maria who decorated and made the fairy bread
Today was also a chance to gather together the wonderful people that started it all
Jo Taylor and Brad Henderson started Hagley parkrun and were our first and second event directors
82 parkrunners were there on 4th October 2014
and five of us were there today too - here’s Richard Malloch
and then Richard and Modecai stepped into being the event co-directors
Today is takes a big team to put on a big budget production like ours
and we are grateful for the tireless efforts of our Core Team who work silently in the background: Maria
On any given day we are thankful for around 30 volunteers on the day too
A community that supports other communities
We love having the Speed Freaks and Achilles groups
We have experienced life’s cycle over the ten years
Children who weren’t born when their parents started at Hagley parkrun are now using their own barcode
We support each other through life’s struggles
I often hear people say that being at parkrun has been life changing for them
And then in 2023 we experienced the sad losses of Ross and Rebecca - who we still miss dearly
Thankyou all for being part of Hagley’s first ten years as a running and walking community
It was perfect weather for a run or a walk on Saturday 15 March 2025 at Hagley Parkrun
There was a buzz of excitement for the new course as people all mingled at the start
Race director Richard Knott gave a good welcome
and a good list of overseas visitors (and reiterated the course
rather than waiting for people to self identify and shout out from a loud crowd
And organisation is definitely the key to run an event with over 700 finishers
with a bit of chatter about Tarawera (if you do the event
And a few participants who come to test out the new course
The paths were pretty wide and flat so I suspect it is a good course for PBs
A group of us decided to pick up the pace to test outselves and then it was over
Everyone was pretty ordered for the finish chute with a bit of gentle encouragement and the army of volunteers were resolutely cheerful
