I’m not interested in writing about new restaurants because it usually takes a few months for the operation and its crew to jell but when the doors are opened for the first time all those plans go out the window and one must start anew the owners may feel like they’re riding a bucking bronco But when a couple of my chef pals and Dani Matthews (@healthyishdani on Instagram) fawned over the food at Half Rooted and told me I had to eat and write about it I cajoled chef Carlos Baez of Overbrook’s Mr. Crisp to join me at the former Cateran Lodge that relic of our city’s mediocre culinary history and we agreed that Half Rooted is definitely worth a visit — today Empanadas are one of my favorite foods and they are practically global What culture doesn’t have some sort of fried or baked dough filled with roasted meats or vegetables One could easily argue that ravioli from Italy and empanadas from the Spanish speaking Old and New World are all in the same family That’s something no one else in town is doing An arepa is a pan-fried corn cake made with corn flour and fresh corn similar to a Johnny cake in the American South an arepa is typically topped with a slice of queso fresco Chef and owner Carlos Loaiza prepares his in a rectangular mold then sears them on the flat grill and garnishes with grated queso fresco The crunchy exterior held an interior that was the texture of soft spoonbread and was redolent of sweet corn juice “Salsa rosada is a blend of mayo and ketchup with spices; the pineapple habanero jam was cool as was the aji sauce and the chipotle sauce,” Baez said “And the cashew and mushroom filling for that empanada was quite clever.” Loaiza has given Greenville something new and desirable in the form of unapologetic Colombian street food at Half Rooted and if we’re going to wear that “foodie town” label we toss around like confetti at a wedding we should embrace restaurants such as this one Half Rooted, at 1419 Wade Hampton Blvd. is open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday “City Juice” is a colloquial term for a glass of tap water served at a diner. recent history when you have a small piece of land and it doesn’t work out as intended there’s a lot more at stake,” said Nancy Whitworth the City of Greenville’s deputy city manager “With this site and its sensitivity to the park and downtown The county-owned property is more than 37 acres equivalent in size to downtown Greenville’s core and located within walking distance of Falls Park and the Greenville Health System Swamp Rabbit Trail Its redevelopment is expected to be a billion-dollar the redevelopment of a block of South Main Street across from the Peace Center the mixed-use development at the corner of North Main and Washington streets the master planned urban community on Verdae Boulevard and Laurens Road on land once owned by the late reclusive textile magnate John D at 1,100 acres and $1.5 billion when completed and we’ve got to make sure to get it right,” said Greenville County Council Chairman Butch Kirven County Square was not thought of as a part of Greenville’s downtown But Falls Park opened in 2004 and Fluor Field two years later planning started for the Swamp Rabbit Trail a 22-mile multiuse trail that opened in 2009 Because the former mall that now houses county operations will be torn down the developer and the county have a wonderful opportunity to design from the ground up professor emeritus of city and regional planning at Clemson University and former member of the city’s planning commission and Design Review Board “They have the opportunity to be creative and efficient and make it an important part of Greenville “Any time you double or triple the density of activities it’s going to strain existing capacities,” he said “They’ll have to have other ways to get there so you don’t have to get in a car They’ll need to think carefully about the back streets They need to make it attractive and feasible to walk with site lines and well-defined walking routes.” who said the city hasn’t had discussions with the developer said the city will be interested in how the development’s design will minimize impacts on traffic The city will also look at other elements like parking The development will likely require a zoning change “There’s no opportunity to back-door anything.” Kirven said County Square is more than an extension of downtown “It’s a test bed to demonstrate how the future looks in an urban environment,” he said “It’s a clean slate where we can design and create a smart urban environment for the future Acceptable Copy Guidelines for the CJ Guaranteed Service Before issuing a press release over the CJ will be held at the park from 1 p.m Activities include walking tours of the park A survivors recognition ceremony and photo are set for 2:32 p.m Registration is requested but not required “We are excited to be celebrating a significant milestone — the transformation of a challenged piece of property into a beautiful park We still have much to do as we transition from bricks and mortar to a focus on incorporating the creative features and resources that are the essence of our vision — creating a space for hope and healing,” said Kay Roper executive director of the Cancer Survivors Park Alliance As the functions of parks grow more complex public-private partnerships have increased as a funding source Greenville’s Unity Park is an example of many of the current trends in building urban parks — a greater reliance on public-private partnerships the conversion of postindustrial sites into green space and construction of facilities that accommodate fluctuation in water levels to help water quality and flooding issues “Parks are no longer simply places for recreation That’s why public-private partnerships are so important,” said Catherine Nagel “Really where public-private partnerships shine is that they bring in more resources and skills.” While Greenville has been known for public-private partnerships for downtown development projects such as the Hyatt Mayor Knox White said Unity Park is the city’s first example of a true public-private partnership on a park The city has earmarked $20 million in hospitality tax revenue for the new park over 10 years and wants private partners to contribute another $20 million Separate from the city’s fundraising efforts is one led by Community Journals’ chairman and co-founder Doug Greenlaw to raise money for a veterans memorial in the park Greenlaw is a founder of the Upstate charter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart “Public-private partnerships have become a critical funding tool in the toolbox,” said Kevin O’Hara vice president of urban and government affairs for the National Recreation and Parks Association public-private partnerships are good for parks.” Chicago’s Millennium Park was a result of a public-private partnership Mayor Richard Daley originally proposed construction of a parking garage with a landscaped greenroof on land that had been parkland The original plan financing called for $120 million from parking revenue bonds and $30 million from private resources plans for the park had changed drastically A cycle center provides heated bicycle parking There are outdoor art galleries and a promenade and the Pritzker Pavilion that hosts the Grant Park Musical Festival Underneath the park is a 4,000 space parking garage the park was the Midwest’s most popular tourist attraction There’s a wide range of how park public-private partnerships are structured “There’s a real range of public-private partnership models to consider,” she said “The key is to fit the model to your community Some cities have a strong base of philanthropic organizations City Park would also mirror the trend in other cities where postindustrial sites are turned into parks and green space those sites are on waterfronts and riverfronts areas that some cities turned their backs on and became nasty places to which people didn’t want to go a waterfront cargo yard was turned into one of New York’s signature parks The city redirects real estate taxes from residential and commercial developments in the project zone creating a self-sustaining revenue stream that is far less dependent on concessions and permits for special events than signature parks in other major cities “Parks are helping to revitalize cities and put them on the map,” Nagel said “It’s exciting that those projects are not just happening in the largest cities but in medium and small cities as well.” It was not only Bronze's goal that sealed the title-clinching victory against Manchester United on Wednesday night but also an incredible performance from Hampton as she made several saves to keep the home side at bay the title celebrations represented the culmination of a whole season of hard work I don't think I have the right words to use at the minute to put it all into perspective what we have just achieved The fact that I can say that I've come to the club and in the two seasons I've been here we've won the WSL both times It's a feeling that you want to work towards the whole time 'It's what puts all the hard work and all the effort of the whole season into perspective We still have two games left and we want to keep the season unbeaten and we want to go and hopefully get the treble against United again [in the Women's FA Cup final].' The win against Manchester United came just days after the team suffered the disappointment of exiting the Champions League at the hands of Barcelona at the semi-final stage Yet Hampton explained exactly how the players quickly recovered their morale as well as detailing ambitions to win the treble when we face the Reds again at Wembley in the FA Cup final on Sunday 18 May 'I think we just knew that we had to bounce back,' the 'keeper continued 'The tie against Barca wasn't the Chelsea that we wanted to portray to everyone I think everyone could see that we weren't ourselves It's always going to be the aim of ours next season 'But for us to be able to bounce back today and win the WSL with games to spare it shows the character and the resilience of this team and what we've had for the whole season the fight that the girls had to make sure that we've got a clean sheet and got the win over the line 'I don't know if it [the win over Man Utd] gives us confidence or if it gives us questions we all need to solve They've conceded the least amount of goals in the whole season Their defensive line and Phallon [Tullis-Joyce] have had an unbelievable season She made it hard for us to score again tonight 'We know it's going to be tough again in the cup final I think it gives us more questions on how we can make it easier for ourselves you're going to take the confidence from this win But we also know that they're going to want to fight back and they're going to want to prove that they can beat us.' It was Lucy Bronze that scored the goal which sealed the title at Leigh Sports Village her flicked header finally beating the resolute backline on the night Hampton took the time to praise her experienced team-mate explaining exactly how Bronze's experience helps the team achieve our lofty aims before revealing why she is keeping her feet firmly on the ground despite some exciting times to come in the near future 'I only realised [that Bronze had scored] when they announced it She's been a rock for us this season in the team I think her tactical awareness and understanding of the game is honestly second to none for all of us I just have to ask Luce a question and she'll be able to answer it and give me the solutions that I need 'I always like to just take one game at a time or one day at a time I just know that I'm playing my best football and I'm enjoying it and that's about not looking too far ahead 'I'm not putting any pressure on myself and I'm just going out there and having a fun time with my teammates.' Hannah Hampton has kept six clean sheets in 13 England caps Hannah Hampton appears to be in pole position to take the number one spot for England at the 2025 Women's Euros with head coach Sarina Wiegman saying she is "a little bit ahead" of counterpart Mary Earps Earps has been a mainstay of England's success in recent years helping the Lionesses win Euro 2022 and reach the final of the 2023 Women's World Cup she has faced increasing competition from Hampton since the beginning of 2024 and the Chelsea keeper has been preferred for each of England's past three Women's Nations League matches Up until now, Wiegman had been reluctant to confirm who would be her first choice, but that changed in the build-up to kick-off of England's defeat in Belgium. she said: "I have two world-class goalkeepers Earps (right) was England's number one when they won Euro 2022 You only have to look at Earps' individual accolades to appreciate her quality as a goalkeeper A two-time Fifa women's goalkeeper of the year the golden glove winner at the 2023 World Cup BBC Sports Personality of the Year - the list is endless She had to fight hard for the gloves on the international stage making her debut against Switzerland in June 2017 but only earning a further seven caps over the next three years in the face of competition from Karen Bardsley Carly Telford and fellow youngster Ellie Roebuck Wiegman's arrival in 2021 proved a turning point with Earps starting each of her first seven games in charge and going on to be ever present during Euro 2022 the 2023 World Cup - including a memorable penalty save to deny Jenni Hermoso in the final Wiegman has favoured rotating her goalkeepers selecting Hampton in six of England's past 10 matches The pair traded places in friendlies against Austria Earps won the gloves for November's much-anticipated meeting with the USA but was replaced by Hampton against Switzerland three days later has been selected in three of England's four Women's Nations League matches including the win over world champions Spain earning 53 caps for England and keeping 26 clean sheets And she's been in good form since swapping Manchester United for Paris St-Germain last summer conceding just 12 goals in 17 league outings Hampton is also enjoying an impressive campaign Establishing herself as Chelsea's first-choice goalkeeper this season she has conceded 13 goals in 18 WSL matches - a record bettered by only Manchester United's Phallon Tullis-Joyce - and featured in their past three Women's Champions League outings who previously played for Birmingham City and Aston Villa eight years younger than 32-year-old Earps is this a sign that Wiegman and England are looking to the future Hampton and Earps are battling to be England's first-choice goalkeeper Former England striker Ian Wright backed Wiegman's decision to favour Hampton "[She will improve] the more experience she can get in games and work on her concentration because in respect of everything else I think she's a better goalkeeper," he said on ITV adding: "Mary's got main character energy Imagine having Mary Earps as your back-up [at the Euros]." Former England midfielder Karen Carney says Wiegman's backing for Hampton could help both keepers in making the situation clearer she said: "You often hear goalkeepers say there has to be a clear number one and maybe Sarina Wiegman's helping Hannah prepare for that "And also showing Mary Earps that Hannah's in ahead of you and this is going to happen at the tournament However, ex-England striker Ellen White, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live's Women's Football Weekly podcast said it could prove a "a big challenge" for her former team-mate Earps to adjust to being the back-up keeper so it's going to be challenging for her if she is number two." Welling United suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat at the hands of Hampton & Richmond at the Beveree Stadium on Saturday with relegation now looming large over the Wings It was a disastrous start for the visitors in south-west London with the home side racing into a two-goal lead in the first five minutes Zanda Siziba was allowed the freedom of the Welling penalty area to dispatch a simple finish after he was teed up with a pass from the right And less than a minute had elapsed before the Beavers made it two as they cut their way through the Wings’ defence for Harry Gardner to finish through the legs of Rhys Lovett the lively Sahid Kamara forced Hampton keeper Max Merrick into an excellent save when his goalbound effort from the edge of the box the away side would never recover from that slow start it would be 3-0 just after the half-hour mark when Gardner secured his brace with a stunning strike from 18 yards which nestled in the top right-hand corner Brian Statham shuffled his pack with a triple substitution at the break with Jack Burchell Dan Martin and Deon Moore all entering the fray – but it would be more of the same after the restart with Hampton extending their lead to four in the 52nd minute as Gardner completed his hat-trick After Lovett had made a save from an initial shot Gardner was on hand at the far post to nod home the rebound for 4-0 Welling’s afternoon was compounded on the hour mark when they seemed to have a perfectly good goal ignored Josh Redfearn’s shot came back off the left-hand upright and inside the right post before being scooped back from behind the line from the goalkeeper meaning the visitors should have reduced their arrears There was still room for the home side to punish the Wings further as they added a fifth with 15 minutes made an instant impact off the bench winning a 66th minute penalty that Danny Cashman fired home to ease the anxiety around the Sussex Transport Community Stadium following a host of missed first half chances That anxiety didn’t dissipate completely though as the Reds only held that slender lead heading into injury time but skipper Joel Colbran reacted quickest to Joe Cook’s knockdown to make the points safe Boss Chris Agutter made two changes to the side that lost narrowly at Hornchuch in midweek bringing in Joe Partington and Nicky Wheeler in place of Sam Packham and Glen Rea despite the Reds controlling the tempo of the game they were limited to a Nicky Wheeler long range effort in the opening exchanges – Merrick doing well to tip it behind for a corner on this occasion Liam Nash had a half chance with quarter of an hour played but couldn’t wrap his foot around Wheeler’s cross enough to steer the ball home The Rebels forced X corners in the first period and came close with two in quick succession later the half; Joel Colbran and Temi Babalola both failing to convert near post deliveries from Danny Cashman Cashman himself had the clearest opening minutes later when good plan down the right flank released Colbran who did brilliantly to pick out the number ten unmarked nine yards out but he skewed the finish just wide The Reds then carved out three extremely presentable opportunities in the final ten minutes of the half First Babalola blazed over the bar with his weaker left foot following a lay off from Nash then just a minute later Odei went through one-on-one but his touch took him wide and he could only find the side netting from a tight angle Finally it was Nash’s turn to be wasteful with time and space inside the penalty area he volleys a high dropping ball well over the bar and the Reds went in frustrated at the interval not to have found the breakthrough The home side failed to build on that momentum as the second half began in scrappy fashion It was in fact the visitors who were the first to come close to breaking the deadlock; Harry Gardner’s strike from range drew a good save from Lucas Covolan who also tipped over the resulting corner from underneath his crossbar who may have been starting to feel like it was going to be one of those days sending on the frontman just after the hour mark to instant dividends Faal was straight into the action a minute later forcing a penalty following a tangle of legs Gardner sparking handbags in the Worthing box following a late challenge on Covolan from a corner The Hampton man was shown a yellow card along with Faal for his involvement in the resulting melee Hearts were in mouth of the home supporters when an in-swinging corner from the right evaded everyone and came back off Covolan’s far post That was as good as it got though for the visitors and Colbran sealed the points in injury time showing predatory instincts to turn home inside the six yard box from Jack Spong’s corner via the head of Joe Cook The result leaves the Rebels three points clear of three of their closest challengers It’s the Tinners up next for Agutter’s men as they make the long trip to Sussex next Saturday in those talks but offered a positive take: “From what I’ve heard from it And I hope we keep going and we get to an agreement very quickly because that brings calmness before a tournament.” “If you look at the short term before these Euros now, we have a very good contact with clubs and [if] they would get some, I would say meaningful minutes to get prepared for the Euros and do what’s right to get [in] the best possible shape for the Euros, then in this short term, for some it would not be too bad,” she said. “But in the longer term I don’t see how we can fit that in the schedule in the Omarion Hampton has played second fiddle to Boise State's Ashton Jeanty in the pre-draft hype the two-time second-team AP All-American will undoubtedly receive the draft capital to suggest he'll earn the opportunity to make a similar-sized impact DAZN News evaluates what Hampton offers as an NFL prospect Evaluations of Hampton almost always begin by referring to his size because the 22-year-old is one of the larger backs in the 2025 draft class He brings his physical tools to bear in his running style demonstrating an aggressive demeanour that often leaves would-be tacklers trailing in his wake While questions about Hampton's agility and lateral quickness are valid his shortcomings do not detract from what is otherwise a dynamic skill set but he has succeeded in other ways thanks to his combination of power Hampton managed back-to-back seasons with over 1500 yards and 15 touchdowns often carrying the Tar Heels' offense while playing behind a questionable offensive line while Hampton still has room to develop as a pass catcher he demonstrated soft hands and the ability to convert short and intermediate targets into long gains Hampton possesses the dynamic skill set and has both the size and durability to immediately become a workhorse capable of carrying the ball 15 times or more per game achieving 1000 rushing yards in his rookie year is well within his reach Whether he contributes significantly as a pass catcher will depend on the existing talent on his team's roster but it's hard to imagine many would be a better option than Hampton He may start by splitting reps on obvious passing downs at first he should claim the role outright before long Hampton is projected to be taken in the mid-to-lower half of the first round and several teams in that range possess capable run-blocking offensive lines and potentially explosive offenses The Denver Broncos are a popular destination for Hampton in mock drafts They would represent an excellent landing spot where he could maximise his talents in an ascending offense led by quarterback Bo Nix and offensive guru head coach Sean Payton With such a wide gap between Hampton - widely considered the second-best running back in the draft- and the third-ranked player it's possible that he may be involved in a trade where a team moves up to acquire his services April 24 at  8pm  on the East Coast /  1am  Friday Heels football has been a trending topic It all started with the disastrous Bill Belichick interview on 60 Minutes and how his girlfriend/handler Jordon Hudson railroaded it and the behind-the-scenes footage was leaked and how much power she really has over Belichick Getting into the backstory of Hudson and Belichick makes for compelling copy And while those story angles are receiving abundant media coverage no one is really talking about Bill Belichick on a strictly football level right now it's hard to think of him as anything except a New England Patriot The Los Angeles Chargers selected Omarion Hampton out of North Carolina with the 22nd overall pick in last weekend's NFL Draft While he won't get the chance to play under Belichick in Chapel Hill he probably would have been the perfect fit for his system Hampton is the kind of back that can truly carry the mail and it's these types of featured backs that have flourished on Belichick led teams over the years While Hampton isn't in Carolina himself right now his former teammates have been filling him in on how the program has transitioned from Mack Brown to the Patriots legend “I feel like it’s kind of just two different things,” Hampton said when comparing Brown and Belichick, during his appearance on Unbuttoned with Chris Simms It’s a lot more like – I heard they like – tackle every day but I feel like overall that’s going to get them uh better prepared for the game because that’s what you’re going to be doing in the game.” Tar Heels football practices are becoming more physical and hard-nosed And at this point UNC leadership must be hoping that people will start talking about actual sports and not the specifics of the Belichick-Hudson relationship when their athletic programs are brought up North Carolina Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham has to know what he's doing And as North Carolina is a basketball school you can take testimony from the top rated Tar Heel in this year's NBA Draft class “This is a family atmosphere," former Carolina wing and NBA Draft Combine invite Drake Powell said in an exclusive with RG.org and I know I made the right one by coming to North Carolina." remember that UNC athletics deserves the benefit of the doubt deprivation and tackling parents’ abuse of home education – Sian Hampton speaks to Jack Dyson More from this author deprivation and tackling parents’ abuse of home education – Sian Hampton tells Jack Dyson about a life that has taken her from Uganda to leadership of the Archway Learning Trust Labour’s surprise assault on academy freedoms has caused consternation across the sector it has already had a more tangible effect; long-term plans to fast-track staff onto leadership wages are now on the backburner Education secretary Bridget Phillipson was forced into a U-turn on restricting academy pay freedoms – saying she would instead introduce a “floor” but “no ceiling” on pay and conditions But Hampton believes the damage has already been done “Parts of the bill were a real distraction,” she says “Academy terms and conditions – did we really need to talk about that now “I don’t know if the government is for or against trusts but the mood music makes trusts feel they are maybe less valued than they were in the past.” We meet in a bustling café in the middle of London’s St Pancras Station Having arrived from Nottingham with a large holdall containing freshly laundered clothes Hampton is stopping here before hopping on a train to Bristol to spend the weekend with her daughter She intends to work remotely for the rest of the day I later learn she remained glued to her laptop after checking into a Bristol branch of Premier Inn that evening Hampton spent the first four years of her life in Uganda Her parents had moved to the country to teach They were constantly taking us out on safari Blood-thirsty dictator Idi Amin seized power 12 months later prompting many of the family’s friends to flee the country Hampton’s “ambitious” father frequently switched headteacher jobs causing the family to regularly relocate too Her first job was working in a Wolverhampton halfway house The building was equipped with emergency buttons but she says it was “never somewhere I really felt frightened” “Working with blokes who’ve just come out of prison was an eye opener That was always interesting as you never knew how it was going to go – you were giving these ex-offenders knives and all sorts.” Hampton then moved into secondary teaching But it wasn’t until she took over as deputy head at Bluecoat Aspley in Nottingham that she encountered “inner-city diversity” “There were cultural things I needed to learn about children who came from different backgrounds to my own “I love that vibrancy – I couldn’t go to a monochrome school and work out in the shires now she was asked to search a pupil’s boot amid fears they were armed police descended on the secondary to arrest “members of the school community because they were involved in gangs” Having risen the ranks to executive headteacher at Bluecoat The trust consists of 10 schools mostly spread across Nottingham and Derby Instead of taking a “one-size-fits-all approach” to running the academies the 58 year old ensures “heads are autonomous” as they are “uniquely placed to understand their own communities” “We don’t pretend [the schools are] all the same” there are key facilities that we run through the central team “The intention of all of that was to reduce workload on our heads and to allow them to maintain and sustain teaching and learning.” Hampton also sits on the Department for Education’s east Midlands advisory board The meetings are intended to inform regional director rulings on trust growth plans At their best they are “really rich and informed conversations that I hope help DfE make their decisions” At their “worst” they’re presented with proposals “where so much development has gone on that saying no is actually going to undermine something that’s happening already” – even if the project isn’t the best long term With the likes of the academy conversion grant and trust capacity funding cut completely Hampton thinks there could be “a drying up of people wanting to academise” is the regions’ work going to be less about managing conversions [and] more about school improvement which is not what the advisory board is there to do “I don’t know how much longevity they [advisory boards] have going forward in this new educational landscape.” Hampton has thrown her hat into the ring to join the new RISE teams: groups of DfE officials and turnaround leaders charged with brokering support for struggling schools When the government’s vision for the school improvement teams was revealed in November ministers said they wanted councils to help drive their standards agenda Just days later England’s biggest local authority admitted it could no longer afford to provide school improvement support Hampton has received similar messages from council chiefs in the Midlands ‘We haven’t got the appetite or resources to run schools that are in difficulty ourselves With 80 per cent of all secondary schools in trusts why would we suddenly go into this place where we haven’t got the skills or the money to support?’” Hampton backs a number of Phillipson’s reforms She regards the curriculum and assessment review as an opportunity “to make schools think about how children can be happy and successful” She also backs plans to tighten up elective home education (EHE) rules welcomed around 193 children in-year over 2023-24 Thirty-six per cent of them had been home educated Education Datalab analysis last year showed the secondary issued 176 suspensions per 100 pupils across 2022 and 2023. The rate was among the highest in England “The community there was playing games,” she says “A child would get into trouble in one school and the parents would then choose to electively home educate and apply for a completely different school.” “There were parent forums and all sorts of social media [groups] where it would say ‘how to home educate your child’.” She claims some leaders in the area have also told the parents of misbehaving kids: “We’re looking at permanent exclusion but if you prefer to educate your child at home The children accepted into Alvaston Moor through this route “usually need really bespoke support” to reintegrate them into classes “I’m not saying it [the exclusions] is all EHE but I think those that come through fair access and have failed in other schools are usually the ones that come to us and fail again,” Hampton stresses Alvaston Moor managed to reduce suspension rates to 12.3 in the autumn it has held 10 in-school meetings with parents every day Archway also invested £1.5 million in “an internal AP and intervention system” recruiting staff to work with children with additional needs Hampton spends half her week working from the trust’s central team base on Bluecoat’s top floor The rest of the time she hot-desks during visits to the rest of her schools She rails against the notion of having a separate office building for central staff “I hate the idea of me somehow being in an ivory tower and making edicts I still pick up litter [and] challenge children to tuck their shirts in.” A working group has been assembled at Archway to examine “how we can make working in our trust as attractive as possible” It hopes to do this in ways that aren’t to “the detriment of other players nearby” One of the measures being looked at is the leadership pay fast-track experienced staff will be able to skip the final upper pay scale level and move onto the leadership spine The move will cost up to £30,000 to implement But Hampton says the plan is “still very much paused” and expects it to be examined again in September The idea is that employees could move into assistant head roles sooner and give leaders the chance to ask them to “do other stuff as well” as they won’t be “beholden to 1,265-hour” rules I think it would allow us to be more imaginative in what we’re doing rather than being rigidly attached to teachers’ pay and conditions.” The delay means the plans will likely be someone else’s to implement Hampton will retire in August – saying it is time to make way “for somebody new with fresh ideas” “Carrying the responsibility of the trust is a 24-hour-a-day role “I’ve got enough of my career left to go off and explore different things I didn’t want to go on for so long that people were saying Richmond and Hillcroft Adult & Community College IPPR associate director Avnee Morjaria has taught inclusion and being mission-driven from Steve Chalke's life and work the Ofsted team tasked with tackling illegal schools speaks about the horrors they have witnessed,.. Welling United fell to a narrow defeat to Hampton & Richmond at Park View Road on Tuesday evening. Despite leading twice through Josh Redfearn and Gene Kennedy in the first half, the visitors turned it round in the second to leave the fatigued Wings frustrated. The hosts were out of the traps quickly and looked very bright in the early exchanges. Daniel Martin was lively down the left early on and fizzed in a dangerous ball across the six-yard box which just evaded a red shirt after three minutes, before TJ Bramble sent an effort whistling over the bar from distance and Theo Alexandrou volleyed wide. And with 10 minutes on the clock, the hosts went ahead with Martin as the architect. Getting down the left, he delivered another good, low ball which fell for Redfearn, who turned nicely and found the bottom left-hand corner. The visitors were level 12 minutes later, however. When keeper Dylan Berry opted to punch a cross, it fell only as far as Archy Taylor who fired in via a deflection. It was a full-blooded half of football in the Welling mud with he action moving to and fro before the Wings regained their lead on 28 minutes. More good pay down the left saw the ball eventually moved  to Kennedy on the edge of the box, who picked out the bottom corner with a crisp finish to make it 2-1. Just after the half-hour mark, Berry was called into action, making a superb save to get down and keep out Ibrahim Jalloh’s goalbound effort from close range, while Marise Evans sent a good-looking volley just wide prior to the break. It was the Beavers who made the stronger start to the second half and they levelled for a second time on the evening nine minutes after the restart. A corner from the right was met by the head of the unmarked Mauro Vilhete who nodded into the net to restore parity for his side. In truth tired legs were beginning to show for Welling, who’s lung-busting efforts at Torquay three days earlier were beginning to catch up with them against the fresher legs of a side who had the benefit of a weekend off. As such, Hampton began to turn the screw and took the lead for the first time with 17 minutes remaining as Vilhete secured his brace. Falling kindly to the Beavers’ number 20 in the box, he squeezed in an effort which took a deflection on its way in. The Wings could not find the energy in the latter stages to stage a comeback of their own, although sub Sahid Kamara came inches away deep in injury time when his low shot skidded agonisingly past the post from 20 yards, and it would be the Beavers who would travel back across London with the points in tow. Rod Stringer’s men will now dust themselves down and go again on Saturday as they host Boreham Wood. Welling United: Berry, Statham (Johnson 86), Burchell, Winfield, Di Trolio, Martin (Ondo 80), Grant (Z Walker 49), Kennedy, Bramble (Taylor-Crossdale 80), Alexandrou, Redfearn (Kamara 66). Borough return to winning ways after coming from behind The Sports had over 25 shots, with 13 on target over the course of the 90 minutes, but ultimately had to come from behind to preserve their unbeaten record at The ReachTV Stadium. An own goal had put the visitors in front early on, before Jason Adigun’s strike found the top corner before half-time. Adigun then added a second early in the second half, before Josh Anifowose fired home on his full debut to put the Sports in control. With results elsewhere, Adam Murray’s side move up to third in the National League South standings. The Borough boss made one change from the loss at Torquay United on the weekend, with Anifowose in for his first start for the club – Pierce Bird dropping out. The hosts started on the front foot – but fell behind through Hampton’s first venture forwards. Archy Taylor broke down the right hand side but in attempting to block his low ball into the area, Ollie Kensdale instead diverted the ball into the far corner of his own net. However, Borough looked for an instant response. Anifowose drove just wide after good work from Yahaya Bamba down the left, before the debutant had an effort deflected just over having been set up by George Alexander. Max Merrick was then forced into his first save of the night when saving Adigun’s shot from the edge of the area, before the Hampton stopper turned away Alexander’s effort from inside the box. Hampton’s goal was under siege, and the Sports went even closer midway through the first half. Adigun was given room on the edge of the area, but saw his strike cannon back off the bar. Bamba then forced Merrick to turn the ball around the post after driving down the left, before the Sports finally got back on level terms just after the half hour mark. After being teed up on the edge of the area, Adigun was given room to try his luck again – but this time left Merrick standing as he picked out the top corner for his first goal for the club. Anifowose and then Alexander then both had shots wide of the mark as the Sports pressed to go in front before the break, but the teams went in level at half-time. However, within two minutes of the restart the Sports got their second goal. Courtney Clarke drove down the right hand side before firing a low ball in and picking out the run of Adigun, who from close range applied the finishing touch at the far post. Borough didn’t rest on their laurels, though, and extended their lead just moments later. Adigun this time turned provider to Anifowose, who shifted the ball onto his left foot and his low drive from just inside the area went beyond Merrick and into the far corner. Despite the 3-1 lead, Borough continued to press forwards. Bamba broke clear down the left hand side and drove into the area, but had his low effort saved by the legs of Merrick before Kai Innocent’s cross found Alexander, who did well to beat his marker but was denied by the visiting keeper. The chances kept coming. On the hour mark the Sports were denied by Merrick once again, making a fine save to deny Anifowose his second, before he turned away Clarke’s strike from 20 yards out. Borough were dominant – although Hampton went close with a rare foray forwards but Taylor headed a cross over at the far post. The Sports’ attacking threat then resumed, however, with Freddie Carter seeing a goalbound header blocked before Adigun and Alexander linked up well on the edge of the area, but Merrick was equal to the latter’s effort. Overall, a dominant performance for the Sports, who bounced back from Saturday’s loss at Torquay to move up the National League South standings. Daily news, insight and opinion from the world of restaurants 28-Mar-2025 Last updated on 28-Mar-2025 at 09:05 GMT The idea behind Kynd was to open a restaurant that champions our land, single varieties and rare breeds, which is the very best of what we do - served up in a relaxed and convivial dining space that still brings a sense of occasion. I love all the relationships we have built at Grace & Savour directly with farmers, makers and fishermen and I know the more direct support the better that is for our producers, while offering an experience that is affordable to more. Many of the people we work with at Grace and Savour we will be using at Kynd. The restaurant is British focused; however, we will champion things like British chocolate producers. Chocolate is not something we would use at Grace & Savour, however at Kynd I want to make it more familiar, with things like well-sourced chocolate. The food is more relaxed, but without losing that sense of occasion. Kynd’s food is still influenced by my time in Scandinavia however this expression is more of what I have experienced in casual eateries in Stockholm, Copenhagen and Oslo. My heart is to always champion British producers and they will always be the stars of the show. I am really looking forward to the buzz of a la carte cooking; that lively atmosphere, delicious food with a team that is bringing a warm authentic love for what they are doing. The low-down on tonight's visitors to The ReachTV Stadium Whilst the Sports suffered a late set-back at Torquay United, Alan Julian’s side were beaten 3-1 at home to Truro City in the National League South. It was the Beavers’ first home defeat since October, with Alan Julian’s side closing the gap on the top eight in recent weeks. However, that gap stands at eight points after losing to the Cornwall side, whilst Borough slip to sixth in wake of their battling defeat at Plainmoor. A hugely experienced goalkeeper, Alan Julian racked up over 450 career appearances before joining Hampton, including almost a hundred in the Football League.   After starting out aged nine with his local league club, Brentford, the Ashford-based ‘keeper went on to win international honours with Northern Ireland. He represented his country at Under 18, 19 and 21 level, with a clean sheet on his Under 21 debut against Switzerland. ‘Jules’ has won a number of titles in his career, including the FA Trophy and the Conference South, and set a Conference record eight clean sheets in a row with Stevenage.  Getting him on board in autumn 2020 represented a major signing for the Beavers, as he brings fantastic organisational skills alongside his undoubted shot stopping ability. After retiring after injury, Alan was announced as Hampton’s new manager on 13th May 2024. Jake Gray started his career with Crystal Palace aged sixteen, before going out on loan to Cheltenham and Hartlepool. Whilst at Palace, Gray made the Premier League bench on four occasions before racking up over a hundred EFL appearances at Yeovil, Hartlepool and Luton. The Aylesbury-born midfielder moved to Woking, before joining the Beavers on loan where he made 18 appearances, scoring three. In August 2020, Gray signed permanently for Hampton, and was 2023’s Player’s Player of the Year. In January 2024, Jake registered his 150th appearance for the Beavers, and finished 2023/24 with five goals and seven assists from 42 league appearances. The Beavers have won four of the last five meetings between the two teams, including a 3-1 win at The Beveree earlier this season. George Alexander had put the Sports ahead in the capital back in October, but three goals in a thirteen minute spell at the start of the second half took the game away from the visitors. Jack Taylor, Mauro Vilhete and Jake Gray got the goals as Hampton prevailed. Beavers fans will also have fond memories of visiting East Sussex, having won 5-0 here on the opening day of the 2021/22 season. However, Billy Vigar headed home to win 1-0 on the opening day of last campaign.
