Haverfordwest has become the first golf club in Wales to achieve Gold of the Women in Golf Charter - in recognition of the club’s dedication to fostering inclusivity.
The updated Charter was launched in line with the Women's Golf Legacy Fund in January this year, helping Wales Golf create a more inclusive environment in golf in Wales.
The club will benefit from funding to improve women's greenkeeper facilities, with a quarter of the greenkeeping staff being female.
They are one of 49 clubs across Wales benefitting from the Welsh Government £1 million fund aimed at improving facilities for women, girls and people with disabilities around Welsh golf clubs.
The fund and Charter will form part of the legacy of hosting the AIG Women’s Open at Royal Porthcawl at the end of July, the biggest female sporting event ever hosted in Wales.
Haverfordwest have become the first club in Wales to earn the Women in Golf Charter since Wales Golf relaunched new bronze, silver and gold standards this year.
“Wales Golf and The R&A are encouraging golf clubs to adopt the Charter, so congratulations to Haverfordwest on not only being the first club in Wales to achieve these new standards, but to go straight in at Gold level,” said Zoe Davies, ED&I Project Lead for Wales Golf.
“Attaining the Charter was a requirement of being able to qualify for legacy funding, with 49 clubs around Wales qualifying to have a share of the million pound boost for Welsh golf, so there will be more clubs following suit.
“We relaunched the Women in Golf Charter in January this year to include bronze, silver and gold categories. The aim of the Charter is to increase the number of women and girls playing and working in golf.
“It is also about developing a culture that values women’s involvement in every aspect of the sport.
"Haverfordwest have equal access to the course for all full, seven days a week members, regardless of gender. Along with half of the club management being female, they also have more than 20% female representation in membership.
“Other core commitments of the Charter include delivering beginner programmes such as New2Golf and having a membership pathway for women and girls.
"Haverfordwest's commitment sets a powerful example for clubs across the country and we hope their success inspires many other clubs to follow in their footsteps.
“The club will also benefit from the Women's Golf Legacy Fund with a project to improve greenkeeper facilities - a good example of how Haverfordwest is displaying golf is a profession for all genders."
Haverfordwest Women’s Captain Nicky Reeves said: “We were delighted to get the confirmation, to be the first in Wales to receive the Gold Women in Golf Charter, really chuffed.
“Wales Golf talked to us about what we needed to do, we looked at the Charter and realised we already had a lot of it in place, which is a testament to members past. The women here championed playing golf with the men 40 years ago.
“We looked at our staff, we have one woman on our greens staff, two women on our management board, New2Golf started here 14 years ago and has gone really, really well, so we thought we have started on a good standing,” added Nicky.

THE Haverfordwest County AFC and PATH Charity Festival brought together football enthusiasts and local supporters on Sunday, April 27th, in an inspiring celebration of sport and community giving.
Hosted at the Ogi Bridge Meadow Stadium on the magnificent new 3G surface, 16 teams competed across four categories in the walking football festival, an event designed to raise awareness of the benefits of walking football as a means of improving physical health and well-being, particularly for individuals over forty.
The festival proudly supported SNAP Pembrokeshire’s specialist play services, with a total of £640 raised to aid their work. In addition, a charity raffle contributed £130 to PATH, further supporting local initiatives.
Among those attending were staff and volunteers from PATH, SNAP Pembrokeshire, Councillor David Bryan and Matthew Freeman, Manager of PCC Sport Pembrokeshire, who all championed the event’s purpose of using football as a force for positive impact.
Representative teams from Milford, New Hedges Saundersfoot, Haverfordwest County AFC, Neath, Morlais Movers, Wannabe Warriors, Celtic Nations, Albies and Felinfoel competed across three pitches, showcasing their skills. Matches officials for the day were Arthur Hughes, Brendan McGrail and Helmut Reinhart.
The food hut was open serving delicious food and beverages and in the spirit of community Kirsty Rees and her staff provided free refreshments throughout to all match officials and staff of St John Ambulance Wales.
The festival also celebrated the success of the PATH numeracy project, which has been funded through the Social Prosperity Fund, highlighting the crucial role of community-driven programmes in fostering education and engagement.
Learners who benefitted from that project were there offering their support during the event, alongside staff who led the project.
Members of Haverfordwest High Sixth Form who had attended the Numeracy classes as part of their work experience were also there in support.
Through spirited competition and charitable fundraising, the festival emphasised the power of sport to unite people in support of meaningful causes.
Paul Williams, chairperson of the Haverfordwest County Walking Football Group said: “We see walking football as a brilliant form for our health and wellbeing every week, alongside being able to socialise with like-minded football lovers.”
Event organiser Dean Flood commented: “This festival has been a shining example of how learning, well-being, community cohesion and human connection can thrive when people unite with a shared purpose.”

jailed for 10 years for leading four people to their deaths
was sacked from the police over a fraudulent insurance claim
Paddleboard tour company operator Nerys Lloyd
was jailed for 10 years and six months over the deaths of Morgan Rogers
It has been revealed that South Wales Police sacked the former firearms officer for a fraudulent insurance claim in 2022
She claimed more than £500 from a car insurance scheme - despite the actual costs coming to around £20
Lloyd pleaded guilty to four counts of gross negligence manslaughter in relation to the deaths on the tour on the River Cleddau in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire
She failed to warn the group about a weir on the route or how to navigate it
despite 'extremely hazardous conditions' and weather warnings
Lloyd admitted the insurance claim was a "massive error of judgment" after she was interviewed under caution on 11 October 2021

Lloyd attended Ystrad Mynach Police Station
accepting a formal caution for the criminal offence of fraud by false representation under the Fraud Act 2006
Chief Constable Jeremy Vaughan said it was entirely unacceptable for police officers
Vaughan concluded Lloyd be dismissed without notice
During the sentencing last week Mrs Justice Mary Stacey said the prior caution for fraud should not have any bearing on the sentencing decision
Mrs Justice Stacey told Swansea Crown Court that the four people who died during the tour were "cut off in their prime"
She said: "We have heard such moving accounts from the family members of those who died
"Statements which I fear barely scratch the surface of their devastation at the loss of their loves ones
with so much to live for and look forward to."
The participants were swept over in the weir
and became trapped under the fast-moving water
Lloyd previously pleaded guilty to four counts of manslaughter and one offence under the Health and Safety at Work Act
Mrs Justice Stacey told Nerys Lloyd that paddleboarding on the weir posed an "obvious and extreme danger which was well known and clearly signed"
She added: "Even from the bridge you could hear how tumultuous the water was going over the weir but you carried on regardless."
The judge said Lloyd was well trained in risk through her roles at South Wales Police and with the RNLI
telling her: "You knew what you should do but you failed to do it."
She told Lloyd she had painted a "false narrative" and had "persisted in disproportionately blaming" co-instructor Paul O'Dwyer
"I accept you are desperately sorry for what happened that day," the judge told Lloyd
"Your life has also been massively impacted
But being sorry for what happened is different from remorse."
quoted a statement written by Lloyd to the court on Wednesday
He said: "I take full blame (for the incident) that meant four extremely special individuals are not here today
"The pain for me has been unbearable but the pain for the families unmeasurable
"There were nine people on the river that day and every one of them is a victim."
The judge also said there were Met Office weather warnings at that time
as well as a flood alert in place through Natural Resources Wales
She told Lloyd that she had watched CCTV footage of the incident
which she described as "too distressing" to play in court
The court heard Lloyd commented to her wife - in a conversation inadvertently recorded on her phone hours after the incident - that she was "finished"
Mrs Justice Stacey said: "In a conversation with your wife
you told her it was 100% your fault and you probably should not have gone on the water."
But the judge said Lloyd blamed Paul O'Dwyer
in the aftermath of the incident and claimed all those taking part were of intermediate ability
"It is clear to me that you intended for the group to go through the weir," she told Lloyd
"Paul had researched alternative routes that would avoid crossing the weir
"He raised valid concerns that you ignored
Your interest appeared to be more of an exciting route rather than safety."

Haverfordwest County won the FAW Youth Cup for the first time in their history following a 2-1 win over Caernarfon Town at Park Avenue
All three goals came in an entertaining first half in Aberystwyth
with both sides backed by impressive contingents of support from opposite ends of the country
Haverfordwest had the better of the early exchanges and took the lead in the 14th minute when Ashley Watkins’ free-kick from the right was headed home by Dylan Maguire – the 17-year-old picking the perfect time to score his first Bluebirds goal
Caernarfon were level just four minutes later when the ball found captain Osian Evans on the right of the box and he produced a superb half volley past Haverfordwest goalkeeper Corey Mathias at the near post
The Bluebirds restored the lead with the final kick of the first half in stoppage time from Sammie Vaughan-Harries
who had proved lively for Ceri Phillips’ side throughout the half
That would prove to be the winner as Haverfordwest held firm in the face of a resilient Caernarfon attack after the break and even came close to extending their lead as Cameron Cridland and Dan John both fired efforts over the bar
Bluebirds coach Ceri Phillips said: “I’m delighted
We rode our luck a little bit at times but I think sometimes you need that in big games
but the boys fronted up and I’m really proud of what they achieved
“This is a great experience for the boys to be exposed to
it’s great for their development and it will make them better footballers.”
“We trained really hard in the week and Caernarfon are no pushovers
outwork them and soak up all the pressure they put on us in the second half was huge,” captain Dan John added
everyone gave 100% and that’s all we asked for
I couldn’t be more proud of everyone
“When you play with people who you’re willing to sacrifice for and suffer with
Everyone was willing to fight for each other today and that was the main message at the start.”

As far as the league standings are concerned
there’s nothing riding on the game at the Bridge Meadow Stadium
but both teams will be looking to end the season on a high for differing reasons
Craig Harrison’s side still have the chance to complete a first domestic treble since 2016 when they take on Connah’s Quay Nomads in the JD Welsh Cup final next month
while the Bluebirds will be looking to secure UEFA Conference League qualification through the play-offs
and that’s something both sets of fans will want to see their team build when they take to the field in Pembrokeshire
The sides have squared off on three separate occasions already this season
with all of those matches ending in victories for The New Saints (1-0
secured a 5-1 victory in front of the S4C cameras at Park Hall
Owain Jones scored the home side’s consolation
while The Saints will take to the field in their traditional home kit of green and white hooped shirts
Goalkeepers will be wearing all-light green and all-grey
Bryn Markham-Jones has been appointed referee
while Jordan Christopher and Matthew Johnson are the two assistants

We will be offering the students a unique learning opportunity this weekend
Haverfordwest County AFC will be handing over the reins of our media and matchday operations to a group of Sixth Form students from Haverfordwest High VC School for Saturday’s game with Caernarfon Town
The collaboration will see the students take full responsibility for our matchday media output
which includes manning our various social media platforms
conducting post-match interviews and reading updates over the PA system
The students will also be looking after the operational side of a matchday at the Ogi Bridge Meadow
which will see them ensure everything runs smoothly for supporters and hospitality guests
This unique learning opportunity will allow the students to experience a JD Cymru Premier matchday
and hopefully lead to them wanting to return and work alongside the football club in the future
We are very grateful for the support we have received from staff at Haverfordwest High VC School
and also for the fantastic response we have had from the students
who we hope will benefit greatly from the experience on Saturday

S4C have selected the JD Cymru Premier fixture between Haverfordwest County and Penybont for live broadcast on Friday 21 March (KO 19:45).
With a second-place finish potentially enough to earn European qualification, the game at Ogi Bridge Meadow – available to watch on S4C Clic and Sgorio’s online platforms and your smart TV – could prove crucial to both sides’ ambitions this season
Penybont currently sit second in the JD Cymru Premier but have picked up just one point from four games in Phase Two so far

Two of the three league games between the two sides so far this season have ended goalless, while Penybont won 1-0 in the league in December and by the same scoreline in the Nathaniel MG Cup in September

Caernarfon Town and Haverfordwest County will compete in the 2024/25 FAW Youth Cup Final following semi-final victories at Park Avenue on Sunday afternoon
The Cofis were the first to triumph, securing a 3-1 win over a Newport County side who had knocked out holders Briton Ferry Llansawel in the previous round
Caernarfon’s Hari Lambe continued his impressive record of netting in every round of this season’s competition by opening the scoring in the 22nd minute
but Cameron Egan equalised for Newport in first half stoppage time
Harri Wyn restored the Cofis’ advantage five minutes into the second half
before Owen Roberts sealed victory with six minutes remaining
Haverfordwest County secured their spot in the final in much more dramatic circumstances, beating Newtown 6-5 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes
The game was goalless for 76 minutes until Tarran Hollinshead finally broke the deadlock for the Robins
but Bluebirds skipper Dan John sent the tie to a shootout with an 84th-minute equaliser
Kristers Kudrjavcevs missed Haverfordwest’s first spot-kick but Robbie Davies missed Newtown’s fourth as it went to sudden death
After Jack Nicholas had scored for the Bluebirds
goalkeeper Corey Mathias made himself the hero as he denied Robins defender Tom Spencer
The 2024/25 FAW Youth Cup Final will be played on Sunday 6 April
with the venue and kick-off time to be confirmed in due course
Haverfordwest County AFC manager Tony Pennock was happy to take a point from the 1-1 draw with Cardiff Metropolitan on Friday night
a result which proved enough to secure the Bluebirds a first third place top-flight finish since 2003-04
The Students went ahead five minutes before the interval through Adam Roscrow
but County responded in the 68th minute when goalkeeper Kelland Absalom turned the ball into his own net after Kyle Kenniford’s effort had hit the left post
The result also meant that the Town have only tasted defeat to three of our 11 opponents in this season’s JD Cymru Premier
Here’s what the manager had to say in full after the game:
Obviously disappointed to concede the goal in the manner we did
I think only once in the three years I’ve been here has somebody won a game by more than one goal and that was Met beating us 2-0 a couple of years ago
we’re over the line and for us to achieve third place is fantastic
the work they’ve put in from pre-season all the way through the season
You get what you deserve when you work hard and they’ve been fantastic this year
we’ve only been back in the league five years
to go to Europe in that time and now finish third is fantastic
and hopefully we’ll improve again next season
On going unbeaten against the Archers this season
a team we’ve won against and lost to over the last few years
but to play them four times this year so far
who knows which way the play-offs are going to go
but we’d have certainly taken that at the start of the season
getting top six was our aim at the start of the season
and then of the five away games in Phase Two
I think that shows how far we’ve come as a team defensively
we haven’t really tested their goalkeeper and we’ve had several opportunities in good areas of the pitch
I know the boys are determined to put that side of our game right
On getting back in the groove after a week’s break
The boys had a little bit of a rest last week
It’s not easy keeping them motivated when there’s gaps in games
and we know what it’s going to be like now depending on what happens in the Welsh Cup final
in terms of the gap we’ll have between our last game and the play-offs
The boys look after themselves really well
it’s something that I trust them with and that’ll be the case for the next five weeks
Obviously the last time we played The New Saints
they caught us on a bad day and we caught them on a very good day
because they were outstanding when we lost 5-1 up there a few weeks ago
and to even compete with TNS you have to be at your best
and that’s what our focus is now for next week; not repeating the performance we had up in TNS a few weeks ago
We’ve only lost once at home this season against Penybont
and we certainly don’t want to lose another one
but being in the top six these are the games we want
and we’ll look forward to a really tough game against the champions of the league again
Haverfordwest County AFC are delighted to confirm that Ricky Watts has agreed a new two-year contract with the club
The legendary midfielder is currently in his 14th season with the Bluebirds
and he brought up his 400th appearance for his hometown club away at Cardiff Metropolitan back in August
Ricky has made 23 appearances in all competitions so far this season
netting in the 5-1 victory away at Carmarthen Town in the Nathaniel MG Cup
away at Aberystwyth Town and also in the JD Welsh Cup victory at Ammanford in November
A firm favourite with the Bluebirds supporters
Ricky had the honour of captaining the team during our European campaign in the summer of 2023
as we created club history by winning a tie for the very first time
Wattsy’s positional versatitlity has been a huge asset to manager Tony Pennock
which has seen him fulfil positions across the defensive line and in his preferred position of midfield
manager Tony Pennock said: “Ricky has been a fantastic servant to our football club
and him extending his contract for a further two years shows his commitment to this football club
“He always works hard at his game and remains a vital member of our squad
“He has been excellent for me since I arrived
Ricky said: “I’m delighted to commit my future to the club for another two years
and I’m grateful for the trust shown in me
and creating more special moments together!”
Ricky is kindly sponsored by the Cleddau Casuals
Cardiff Met hosted Haverfordwest County last night
where Adam Roscrow’s first half goal was cancelled out by a Kelland Absalom own goal late on in the second half
Here are three talking points regarding the match as we head closer to the European Play-Offs
It goes without saying that Zac Jones has caught many eyes since relocating to West Wales from New Zealand
with the Kiwi born shot stopper showcasing many impressive performances
So it is clear to see why the New Zealander may be in high demand this summer
Jones denied Cardiff Met taking all three points last night
He made good saves to deny Jac Clay and Tom Vincent as the Archers were searching for a winner
As we head into the final game of the Championship Conference
both Cardiff Met and Haverfordwest County will be hoping to pick up a win and head into the Play-Offs in good form
Both sides have found wins hard to come by as of late
Cardiff Met enter their final game vs Caernarfon off the back of a four game winless run
however their last win came against their upcoming opponents when they beat the Cofis 4-2 at Cyncoed Campus in the beginning of March
The Archers still have everything to play for as they head into their game against Caernarfon
as finishing one place higher may be beneficial for their Play-Off campaign
have the tough task of facing The New Saints on the final day
where they will be hoping to put an end to their five-game winless run
The Bluebirds have won just two of their games since the split
with their last victory coming against Met back in February
Tony Pennock’s men will be hoping to pick up a win before they head into the Play-Offs
however beating the champions TNS is never an easy task
The Bluebirds have beaten TNS just once in their last 11 meetings
we saw what happened the last time the Bluebirds entered the Play-Offs
defeating both Met and Newtown to enter the qualification rounds for the UEFA Europa Conference League
Time will tell if either Cardiff Met or Haverfordwest County can pick up a win on the last day and enter the Play-Offs with some momentum
it may seem strange to be talking about the Welsh Cup final when neither Cardiff Met or Haverfordwest County are involved
this is a game that could have a major impact on their seasons
With Haverfordwest guaranteed to finish third
should TNS win the Welsh Cup County will be gifted a huge advantage heading into the Play-Offs
This will see County guaranteed a place in the final which they will play at home
Although Cardiff Met are almost guaranteed to face Caernarfon in the Play-Offs
that will see Penybont enter the Play-Offs
a team who many have struggled to beat this season
this would also mean that County play an extra game and have to face Penybont away from home in the final
This would be far from ideal for the Pembrokeshire club
as they have failed to beat Pennybont in their last seven meetings
I think it is clear to see why many Haverfordwest County fans will be cheering on The New Saints in the final
which will be played at Rodney Parade on the 4th of May
Here's how Phase Two will look for the Bluebirds
Haverfordwest County AFC will begin Phase Two of the 2024-25 JD Cymru Premier season with a home game against Bala Town at the Ogi Bridge Meadow on Saturday 25 January
Tony Pennock’s men are gearing up for their maiden Championship Conference campaign
having secured a top six finish in a 12-team JD Cymru Premier for the first time in the club’s history
County have guaranteed themselves at least a European play-off semi-final berth
and will be aiming to finish as high up in the standings as they can
The Bluebirds will also be joined by The New Saints
Caernarfon Town and Cardiff Metropolitan in the Championship Conference
The Town will bring their campaign to a close at home to The New Saints on Saturday 19 April (2:30pm) at the Ogi Bridge Meadow Stadium
Please note that fixtures are subject to change
12:15pm – Penybont (A) – Live on Sgorio
Tickets for our meeting with Cardiff Metropolitan in the JD Cymru Premier Championship Conference on Friday evening are now available to be purchased online
The Bluebirds continue Phase Two with a game against the Archers
following the win over Bala Town and draws with Penybont and Caernarfon Town to kickstart our campaign
Get The Boys A Lift will also be with us on Friday evening
We’re also looking forward to welcoming Lollies Dessert Box to the game
Supporters will be able to enjoy a wide variety of treats
