Falmouth, Newquay and Camborne also win on the opening day
FORMER Cornwall captain Tom Sharp rolled back the years with a superb 111 as Hayle thrashed champions Beacon by 125 runs at The Towans.
The all-rounder struck 10 fours and two sixes in his 124-ball knock as they made 221-9 after winning the toss. New Zealander Nate Wiggins made 32 at the top, while Emily Edgecombe took 3-24 with her left-armers.
Beacon’s reply never got started as after brothers Dan and Matt Lello took out the top order, spinners Sharp, Wiggins and Max Jenkin wrangled out the rest as each bowler took two apiece. Nobody made more than Stephen Wiseman’s 19.
Perranporth’s first ever match in the second tier saw them thrash St Erme by a massive 159 runs at Reen Manor Parc.
Cameron Bishop smashed 112 not out from just 65 balls after opener Travis Woolston made a fine 69, while Josh Anderson added 36 in a partnership of 79 with Bishop as they racked up 302-7.
Needing more than six an over, St Erme attacked from the outset but were bundled out for just 143 in 27.2 overs with the best being thirties from Richard Kellow (38) and Spencer Wilcock (31).
Woolston rounded off a fine afternoon with 5-26 from just 3.2 overs after opening bowler James Hall took 3-37.
Relegated Camborne earned the easiest of opening day victories as they thrashed an understrength Roche by nine wickets at Roskear.
The visitors were bundled out for just 79 as Dinuka Dilshan (3-9 off 10) and Dan Stephens (3-16) shared six wickets.
Josh Fontana (30no) and Jamie Goldsworthy (25no) knocked off the runs after Alfie MacDonald fell for ten.
Newquay enjoyed a solid opening day victory over Paul at the Sports Centre.
After slipping to 38-3, the innings was revitalised by an 82-run stand between debutant Gangul Ravina and overseas player Toby Chillingworth.
Ravina made 53 and Chillingworth 49, before they slipped to 185 all-out.
Keiran Bowden was the pick of the Paul attack with 3-30 from his 10 overs, while both Will Trenoweth and skipper Ben Brooks took 2-34 from their maximum allocation.
Paul got off to a disastrous start as they soon slipped to 4-3 which included Andrew Snell being run-out first ball by Ravina.
Paul recovered and were well-placed at 81-4 before Chillingworth’s left-arm spin accounted for Charlie Goldsworthy (28).
Bowden and Damon Nicholls took the score to 123-5, but once Nicholls was caught and bowled by Joe Crane, they subsided to 153 all-out with Chillingworth (3-40) and Crane (3-32) sharing six wickets.
Bowden rounded off a fine individual day with 73, but lacked support.
Newly-promoted St Austell Seconds were beaten by four wickets at Falmouth on their return to the second-tier.
After being sent in, the Saints were going okay at 112-4, but the dismissal of Qasim Jamal sparked a collapse as they lost their final six wickets for just 36 runs. Ryan Bennetts made 45.
Haydn Ayres, Isaac Hurtel-Hymans, Perran Burley (2-25) and debutant Charlie Baker (2-10) all took two wickets.
The chase saw openers Harry Roberts and Ben Coston add 48 before debutant Freddie Ayliffe made 51 to get them over the line.
The Saints took some late wickets with braces for Jamal (2-37), Ben Carter (2-28) and Curtis Dalby (2-25).

A beach party in Hayle sparked a police operation last night following a flood of rumours on local social media – but officers say there were no signs of violence or weapons
Hayle Police confirmed they were involved in a pre-planned operation aimed at ensuring the safety of teenagers attending a beach party on Hayle Beach
Officers engaged with young people at the scene and seized alcohol
Despite multiple posts circulating on social media suggesting a large group of teenagers were arriving by train armed with knives and wearing balaclavas
“One post in particular mentioned over 100 children on a train from Camborne
some wearing balaclavas and having knives,” officers said
“This train was met by officers and between 35 and 40 children alighted
none of whom raised any suspicions that would give rise to the lawful use of a stop search power.”
Police reminded the public to report incidents directly to them rather than posting on social media

Residents fear the award-winning beach is losing its beauty and that wildlife is being impacted
A CAMPAIGN has been launched to stop ‘sand mining’ at Hayle Beach following fears it will destroy the award-winning scenic spot
which was voted the best beach in 2024 by The Times
is “losing its beauty” following the tonnes of sand being removed
Authorities claim the sand is excavated to keep the channel clear for fishermen
but campaigners believe it is detrimentally impacting wildlife and biodiversity
The campaigners have started a petition in a bid to get the ‘sand mining’ operations ceased immediately
and a protest will be held at the sand spit in front of Gilbert’s on Sunday
The Cornwall SOS protest is calling for ‘no more selling off ‘Britain’s best beach’ sand.’
The petition will be sent to the Department for Environment
Cornwall Council as well as Camborne and Redruth MP Perran Moon
Sophie Daniels said: “My roots are deeply ingrained in this beautiful place we call Hayle Beach
I grew up here and witnessed the rich biodiversity of our local ecosystem
“This is an important area not just for me but for the entire community of Cornwall
our once tranquil beach is suffering as tonnes of sand are removed day and night
sold for profit with no thought of the environmental repercussions
claiming it is necessary for keeping the channel clear for fishermen
far from the central channel they declare to keep clear
“The ill effects of this relentless mining are evident
and the incessant excavation poses a risk to our children's safety on the beach
it's a serious threat to the delicate ecosystem and local wildlife that call this beach home
“The often-cited study in the Journal of Coastal Research has consistently shown that sand mining impacts coastal and marine biodiversity and flood defences
a gem of Cornwall and voted Best Beach in the UK by The Times
Our plea is simple: cease the sand mining immediately
“This isn't merely about preserving our beach for recreational purposes
It's about safeguarding our ecosystem
Chelsie Hoxby added: “The best beach in the UK in 2024 is literally being destroyed
“For months and months huge trucks have been illegally removing thousands of tonnes of sand and selling it
“Apparently to profit those signing off the action under the guise of dredging the inlet
and the protection for the properties on the cliff has been removed with the dunes
“This will affect all beaches in St Ives Bay as the sand is redeposited over time.”
A spokesperson for the protest said: “Raise your voice and stand together for those too afraid to speak out

A protest is taking place in Hayle as locals have shared 'outrage' for sand being removed from a popular beach.
Footage from residents shows heavy machinery and lorries removing sand outside of designated dredging zones.
Officials say the removal is completely legal and nothing to be worried about.

Vistry and Livewest have formed a 50/50 joint venture and jointly acquired land for 48 new homes on Viaduct Hill in Hayle.
The two partners secured outline planning permission for the site earlier this year and have now exchanged contracts to purchase the land. It will provide 30% affordable homes, to be managed by Livewest, with the open market homes to be sold by one of Vistry’s retail brands (Bovis Homes, Linden Homes and Countryside Homes).
The site is located on the southeast side of Hayle. There is good access to the town for shops and amenities as well as to the wider area via the A30. Some of the region’s most popular beaches and St. Ives are within three miles of the site.
Viaduct Lane forms part of a wider strategic land allocation that also benefits from outline planning permission, meaning the joint venture has potential opportunities to supplement and increase the number of homes it will deliver. Construction work is expected to start next year, with an estimated completion by autumn 2026.
Peter Sadler, managing director of Vistry Cornwall South West, said: “We’re really pleased to once again be working with our joint venture partner Livewest to develop this site in Hayle and to deliver a number of high-quality, mixed tenure homes, giving local people a range of housing choices.
“The strength of our partnership has been built over many years and in that time we’ve delivered many hundreds of homes together, including a high proportion of affordable homes, and we can look forward to doing the same in Hayle.”
Gareth Jones, development director for LiveWest, said: “This development will provide new, quality affordable homes.
“By working in joint venture with our valued partner, Vistry, we have helped the delivery of the site, ensuring that affordable homes are provided for the community.
“Good quality homes are the foundation for wellbeing and strong communities, so LiveWest is really pleased to be working with Vistry on this site in Hayle.

We will miss our regulars and want to give BARRY a big shout out - we shall miss your humour and your dedication to being our incredible doorman."
The post continued: "We want to thank our staff members - for their loyalty
their hard work and for knowing that what they do each day at the Cornish made such a difference in our community
Thank you to all that have put on an apron
Far too many to name them all - some came for a summer
some for a year or more and some never left for the five years - but a few stand out above and beyond: Matt T
Jess and Jen (she has been with the Cornish Arms since 1999!)
