Plans for a film studio’s data center campus near High Wycombe
Located on land south of the Wycombe Air Park
the site was supposed to be home to an eight-stage film studio
Wycombe Film Studios, under the parent company SCIO Capital, took over the development, with plans for a data center surfacing in October
Details for the site have now been shared in planning documents submitted to the Buckinghamshire Council
The 13-hectare site will house six data centers
Construction costs are expected to be in the region of £265 million ($329m) over the five-year construction stage
the data center will create around 300 full-time jobs
It is likely the data centers will be leased out or sold by the film studio
Ollie Bell, director of Nexus Planning, told The Construction Enquirer: “The creation of this data center responds to clear market requirements
addressing a significant need for data centers in the UK
particularly in London and the South East of England
The development presents many opportunities on both a local and national level.”
The UK Labour government has shown favorable attitudes towards data centers since coming into power in July 2024
it has designated data centers as Critical National Infrastructure and has declared the intention to encourage more data center developments across the country by relaxing planning restrictions in certain areas
