with just one out-of-contract player still in talks over a new deal
A further nine players with first-team experience have now been confirmed to be set for release: Loick Ayina
Neo Eccleston is the only one of Town’s out-of-contract players confirmed to be in ongoing discussions over a new deal
full-back Eccleston started the final two games of the League One season under interim boss Jon Worthingon
Tawanda Chirewa, Nigel Lonwijk and Joe Hodge will all return to Wolverhampton Wanderers following their loan spells, while newly-crowned player of the year Callum Marshall goes back to West Ham United.
Not counting Eccleston, that leaves Town with just 18 senior players under contract for the 2025/26 season as it stands. Among that number are Sorba Thomas and Bojan Radulovic, who were both sent out on loan last season.
Academy players Zak Abbott, Fope Deru, Donnell Garrick, Anthony Gregory, Danny Isaac, Cian Philpott, Oliver Riva and Michael Stone are also set for release.

Holmfirth-born journalist and Huddersfield Town fan OLIVER THOMPSON made a long-distance return to the John Smith’s Stadium after five years – and 8,000 miles
I made the trip to the John Smith’s Stadium from a little further afield than most — around 8,000 miles from my home in the Falkland Islands — but the final game of the season wasn’t really about geography
It was about presence: the closing chapter of a difficult campaign and the farewell of a player who has symbolised Huddersfield Town for more than a decade
felt all too familiar — a bright start undone by defensive lapses
a flicker of hope before half-time followed by a second-half collapse
What began as a promising season has ended in disarray
and what once felt like frustration now feels more like fatigue
League One status had already been confirmed
and the focus wasn’t really on the result — it was on what
Nicknamed ‘The General’ for his leadership and resilience
he has been a constant through a decade of upheaval
This was his final home appearance after 12 seasons
and a journey that spanned Premier League highs and two relegations
The reaction when he stepped onto the pitch was long and heartfelt — no pyrotechnics
Hogg played with the same grit and commitment he always has
though he couldn’t lift the side; he never let his standards slip
Many stood and clapped in a moment that felt quiet
sincere and deserved — a reminder of the standards once set
A near miss at promotion in 2022 now feels like a footnote in a long decline
The club isn’t rebuilding; it’s searching for an identity
cycled through managers and backroom staff
and even seen changes to stadium operations
A decade of instability has taken its toll
That’s why the people around the club still matter
Former defender Nathan Clarke was there in club colours
working behind the scenes; goalkeeper Matt Glennon covered the game for BBC Radio Leeds; striker Andy Booth moved through the crowd in his ambassadorial role; and midfielder Jonathan Worthington was on the touchline as interim manager
Veteran sports journalist Mel Booth was also in the press box watching on
These aren’t ceremonial roles — they’re signs that the club still values its past
But legacy and loyalty alone won’t solve structural problems
Huddersfield Town isn’t simply enduring a bad season; it’s in the midst of a prolonged downturn that’s been fuelled by poor recruitment and a revolving door of managers
resulting in a fractured squad and an increasingly disillusioned fanbase
This isn’t transition; it’s a warning — and one the club can’t afford to ignore
What the club still has — and must protect — is identity
Town fans aren’t demanding miracles — they want effort
I still remember David Wagner’s words during that Premier League survival run: “We are Terriers
That sense of connection remains — even now
Members of the press team still recognised me from five years ago
It spoke volumes about the club’s togetherness
The presence of former players in meaningful roles keeps the club connected to better times
The chairman has been open with supporters
and that’s a start — but the slide is steep
and another year like this could be ruinous
Being there in person reminded me of what you can’t quite see from 8,000 miles away — not just the match
and Hogg leaving with sincerity rather than spectacle
I saw young supporters in their first kits
I saw visitors from an Australian futsal club
stood in the stands when Peter Jackson was manager
I didn’t — but now I write about the game instead
The club is still living up to its reputation as the family club
but the emotional connection and the on-pitch reality are pulling in opposite directions
Huddersfield Town can’t afford to drift any further
to live up to the identity that still means something — because a community like Huddersfield will always need its club

Darrell Clarke and Michael Duff are the early bookies' favourites for the Bristol Rovers job(Image: Getty Images)Bristol Rovers legend Darrell Clarke has emerged as the early bookies favourite to take over at the Memorial Stadium after the club parted ways with Inigo Calderon over the weekend
Rovers will be looking for their fourth permanent manager in 18 months ahead of their return to League Two following relegation
Clarke's name has been put forward by numerous Gasheads as their personal preference to get the job with the ex-Gas manager currently out of work having left Barnsley in March and is currently priced at 4/9 to make a return to north Bristol
It has been nearly six-and-a-half years since Clarke left Rovers having spent four-and-a-half years in charge in BS7
The 47-year-old guided the Pirates to back-to-back promotions from the National League to League One and led to the Gas' highest finish for the last 25 years - 10th in the third tier in the 2016/17 campaign
The 47-year-old added a third promotion to his managerial CV when winning the League Two play-offs with Vale in 2022
As always when it comes to managerial searches
bookmaker odds have to be taken with a pinch of salt
It is currently unclear whether Clarke is even in the running for the job
Barnsley and Cheltenham Town manager Michael Duff is second-favourite at 15/8
It is understood that Duff still resides in Cheltenham having lost his job at Huddersfield in March
coincidentally after losing 1-0 against Rovers at the Mem
The 47-year-old has managed at Championship level
spending less than six months at Swansea in the first half of the 2023/24 season
but is best known for taking Barnsley to the League One play-off final the campaign before while also leading Cheltenham to League Two promotion in 2021
Ex-Northampton Town and Bolton Wanderers bosses Jon Brady and Ian Evatt are also in the mix at 8/1 before the odds started to get longer with a handful of other names linked
Des Buckingham and Steve Evans are priced at 16/1 while there are even longer odds for Leam Richardson
who hasn't been in the dugout since leaving the Mem in October 2023

A FORMER Premier League captain has been left unemployed after his EFL club released ten players
Huddersfield finished the 2024-25 season tenth in League One after a horror run saw them drop out of play-off contention
And less than 48 hours after the end of the campaign
the Terriers announced their retained list
club cult hero Jonathan Hogg has been let go after 12 years with Huddersfield
captained the Yorkshire club during their stint in the Premier League
The news of his departure at the end of his contract had already been confirmed
The club also let a further nine first-team stars go as their deals expired while goalkeeper Chris Maxwell retired
Huddersfield said: "As previously disclosed, club captain and legend Jonathan Hogg will wave goodbye to the club this summer following 12 distinguished years in blue and white.
"Goalkeeper Chris Maxwell has also departed the club following his recent retirement.
"Now at the conclusion of their contracts
we will also part ways with nine other players with senior appearances for the club across our First Team and B Team
Loick Ayina and Conor Falls all set to depart with our sincere thanks for their service
"Having unfortunately had his season cut short by an ACL injury
Ward will have the opportunity to continue his rehabilitation with the club until he is fit to move elsewhere
"Conducting a full review of our footballing operations following the 2024/25 campaign
the club retains a desire to refresh the complexion of our First Team squad having fallen short of our targets this season
"Looking to head into the 2025/26 season reinvigorated
decisions have been made to allow full flexibility and freedom to any incoming Head Coach."
Huddersfield sacked manager Michael Duff in March after a run of four defeats in five league matches as the Terriers dropped out of the play-off places
Jon Worthington took interim charge for the remainder of the season to replace Duff
who came in after relegation from the Championship last May

Huddersfield have confirmed nine first-team players have joined Jonathan Hogg in leaving the club
The Terriers captain made his final appearance in their 4-1 loss to Leyton Orient last weekend
Hogg's departure after 12 years with the club had been confirmed last week
Huddersfield ended their campaign with a seventh consecutive defeat to finish with eight losses in their last nine
The managerless side finished tenth in the third tier
Huddersfield have also released Danny Ward
The club's retained list confirmed that they are set to begin pre-season with 18 first-team players on their books.
It follows the end of four loan spells as Tawanda Chirewa, Joe Hodge, Nigel Lonwijk and Callum Marshall return to their parent clubs.
However, Huddersfield have also confirmed that discussions are ongoing with Neo Eccleston over a new contract.
As for Hogg, he joined the West Yorkshire outfit from Watford back in 2013 and won promotion to the Premier League four years later
The midfielder went on to make 59 top-flight appearances during Huddersfield's two-year spell in the division
the home defeat to Orient marked his 410th match for the club
he scored six goals and provided nine assists from midfield
Hogg also spent his final four years at the John Smith Stadium as club captain
Chairman Kevin Nagle hailed his contributions ahead of the 35-year-old's final appearance
Nagle explained: "This is an emotional moment for us all as we show our love and sincere gratitude for a player who has embodied everything it is to represent Huddersfield Town
legend and enduring figure for all associated with the club
it is only correct that we give Jonathan the send-off a player and a person of his calibre has earned after leading the team with such distinction."
Huddersfield will now focus on appointing a new manager for their second season back in League One
Jon Worthington has been in interim charge since Michael Duff's dismissal in March
The academy boss won just two of his ten matches at the helm of the first-team
Huddersfield have lost 14 of their last 20 matches
Leyton Orient have won their last 5 matches
Huddersfield have lost their last 5 matches
Leyton Orient have the 4th-best away record in the league
Leyton Orient's hopes and dreams all come down to this
It’s been a rollercoaster of a season for Richie Wellens’ men
who are in a strong position to secure the final League 1 playoff position with a win
Despite being level on points with Reading
a healthy goal difference of 21 puts them 8 clear of their promotion-vying rivals
it’s imperative that they stay grounded and approach their clash with Huddersfield professionally
Their opponents sit 10th in the league following a dire run of form
with any position between 11th and 8th a plausible outcome
We also have our EFL Final Day free bets live now — see the best bookies you’ve not joined.
Backing Leyton Orient to take all three points and secure their position in the playoffs looks like excellent value at 1.8
There’s a world of difference between the sides in terms of form
and with this game only really mattering to the visitors
The Under 3.5 goals market also looks profitable at 1.4
Huddersfield’s matches have produced an average of no more than 2.40 goals
Leyton Orient’s average of 2.56 isn’t far behind either
The selection has been a winner in 80% of Leyton Orient’s league games and 76% of Huddersfield’s
Leyton Orient’s record is in stark contrast to that of Huddersfield
who have lost each of their most recent five
rendering them one of the league's most out-of-form sides
Huddersfield have been seemingly unable to find a balance between attack and defence
with positioning being a recurrent issue across the field
Leyton Orient seemed to be without a hope of reaching this point not long ago
following five back-to-back losses during late February and early March
a superb run of form has seen them pick up 22 points from a possible 27
which has notably included wins in each of their last five
They boast the league’s fourth-best away record
is marginally superior to their average at home
Despite Leyton Orient being the bookies' favourites coming into this clash
it’s Huddersfield that boasts the stronger head-to-head record
generating four big chances compared to Leyton Orient’s zero
This was the only time these sides have met in recent history
given Huddersfield’s extended stay in the Championship/ Premier League
although their respective performances this season would indicate times might be changing

She is warm, funny and seemingly at peace – following the traumas and battles with substance abuse that she revisits on this nightmarish, alien album.
As a musician, Aya speaks of being able to “contact this sublime, other essence” by drawing “excitement from sound”. But she also admits that “chasing that high through rave music has led me to some pretty dark relationships with substances”. After struggles with ketamine, cocaine and alcohol abuse, she is, on the day of our interview, six months clean.

A 96-year-old Huddersfield Town fan has accused the club of letting down older supporters with a new policy banning her from using a lift at the John Smith’s Stadium
has had a seat in the Riverside Stand upper tier since the stadium opened 30 years ago and has a pass to access the lift
telling them their lift passes will be withdrawn from next season and they will have to move to more expensive seats if they still want to access the lift
The club says the change is necessary for public safety in the event of an emergency evacuation of the stadium
Lily said: “I felt betrayed having been coming all these years
I used to come with my husband John and continued to come on my own after he passed away
I sit in the same seat and I’ve made friends.”
whose family have written to Town owner Kevin Nagle
has been to the stadium to look at alternative seats but none were suitable
which includes an evacuation chair lift down the stairs
This season I paid £249 and next season the same seat is going up to £419
“At my age I don’t know how long I’ll be able to keep going to matches but I want to make my own decision on when it’s time to stop
Lily Walker at Wembley when Huddersfield Town were promoted to the Premier League in 2017
Lily attends Shelley Over 60s and Ian Dyson
who is treasurer of the group and is also a Town season card holder
said he was disappointed at the club’s stance
“The club has just been shortlisted for an award at the annual EFL awards for ‘engaging with older people’ yet it wants to remove lift passes
“It is true that a lift provided for passenger use in the normal operation of the building may not be able to be used in an emergency or fire evacuation situation,” he said
it is rare that a suitable fire evacuation strategy cannot be developed for evacuation of disabled members from the upper floors of a building – therefore it is not normally acceptable to deny access on this basis
“Lily feels let down by the club and wants to remain in her current seat
with people and supporters she knows and where she knows she can manage to get to
currently without assistance from anyone else
“A seat elsewhere will either require more walking
without adequate rail support that she needs when going up or down stairs
The closeness of her current seat means that this is provided.”
Huddersfield Town has been criticised for a big increase in the cost of season cards and Ian added: “Everyone is being asked to pay more for the privilege of using their seat next season
after a rather measly £20 reduction for over 65s
Ian said there must be a better way forward and added that the Over 60s club would be happy to work with the football club and Kirklees Council to source funding for lift improvements
says: “The safety of our supporters is absolutely paramount and in the event of an emergency evacuation the stand would need to be cleared as quickly and as easily as possible
“In this instance the lifts would not be in use and to try and evacuate supporters who are unable to use the stairs in a swift manner would pose a significant safety issue not only to the individual but to other supporters around them
“Going forward the lifts into the Riverside Upper Tier will service central areas only to ensure that only areas permitted for public use are accessed
“In making these changes we keep an accurate record of how many supporters are in this area of the stadium as far as we possibly can; another decision which has been taken in the interest of supporter safety
“We appreciate that some fans have sat in the Riverside Upper Tier for a long time
however the safety of our fans must be the most important consideration.”

A new planning application has been submitted for the £30 million re-development of the George Hotel in Huddersfield
Planning permission was previously granted for a 90-bedroomed hotel but now new plans have been submitted to increase the number of bedrooms to 108
Kirklees Council’s Cabinet gave the go-ahead for revised plans to be drawn up late last year after the cost of the project rose to £30 million
It’s now been revealed that the historical façade of the grade II*-listed hotel facing onto John William Street is to be dismantled and rebuilt
The oldest part of the building facing into St George’s Square is to be retained but the two newer blocks are to be demolished and a new concrete frame extension built to blend the historical and the contemporary into a new-look George Hotel
The front wall facing John William Street will be carefully taken down and subsequently rebuilt by a specialist stonework contractor
All the pieces will be individually marked and stored until the rebuild takes place
The new extension will be supported by piled foundations driven into the ground which means part of the basement structure will have to be removed
The George is to become a Radisson RED boutique hotel and each of the brand’s hotels takes design inspiration from the town or city where it’s located
The new planning application contains interior design documents which give a glimpse of what the rooms may look like
The latest estimates are that room rates could average £100 to £110 a night
Kirklees Council’s Cabinet member for regeneration Clr Graham Turner said altering the floor levels to accommodate more bedrooms meant that stronger foundations were needed
He said most of the scheme was the same as before and he hoped planning permission could be given in around six or eight weeks
Contractors were in place and Clr Turner added: “I am very optimistic of starting work in the not too distant future.”
The hotel closed in 2013 and was bought by the council for £1.8 million in 2020
So far around £4.6 million has been spent on repair work and restoration
Building work is expected to take around two years so it’s likely to be late 2027 at the earliest before it opens
The council says around 50 jobs will be created and the new hotel could put £7.5 million into the local economy over 10 years
Vincent Dorrington on the history of the George Hotel and its troubled past, present and future
Leyton Orient made sure of a League One play-off place as they ran out convincing 4-1 winners away to Huddersfield
The hosts gifted Orient the lead within two minutes as Josh Koroma's mis-hit pass played in Jamie Donley to run unchallenged into the box
where a square ball gave Dan Agyei a simple finish
Agyei went close to doubling the advantage five minutes later but hit the crossbar with Jacob Chapman well beaten
The Huddersfield goalkeeper then made a mess of a deflected cross from Agyei
flapping the ball into his own net for 2-0
Koroma pulled one back just before half-time with a looping header into the top corner and Orient had assistant manager
Paul Terry sent off moments later for preventing a quick throw-in
Agyei made sure of the result shortly after the break
once again applying the finishing touch to a swift and clinical counter-attack
substitute Azeem Abdulai converting a close-range header to finish off Ethan Galbraith's cross on the break following a Huddersfield corner
and as always it is completely free to play

Leyton Orient saw their assistant coach Paul Terry get sent off during their League One clash against Huddersfield Town
Paul, the older brother of Chelsea legend John Terry
has worked at the east London side since 2022
Terry was on the touchline for Orient's 3-1 win at Huddersfield on Saturday in their bid to finish in the League One play-offs
Richie Wellens is normally the head coach but his suspension meant he watched the match in the director's box instead
Orient lost another one of their coaching team following a short tussle by their dugout
Huddersfield won a throw-in and striker Joe Taylor retrieved the ball to take it but was stopped in his tracks
The 46-year-old made his way down the tunnel at the John Smith's Stadium with very little protest towards his dismissal.
Orient won all of their last five League One matches to put them in firm contention of finishing in the promotion play-off spots.
Dan Agyei got them off to a brilliant start by scoring with two minutes on the clock aheads of an own-goal from Jacob Chapman.
but Agyei netted again at the start of the second half
Azeem Abdulai scored their fourth and final goal of the afternoon to keep their promotion dreams alive
Orient have finished sixth in League One and will face third-placed Stockport County in the play-offs
They were playing in the National League as recently as 2019 but have since risen from League Two and into the third tier
This season's League One play-offs will also see Wycombe Wanderers take on Charlton Athletic
Birmingham City won the title last month before making EFL history by winning the most points of any team in a single season with 108.
Their 2-1 draw at Cambridge United on Saturday has therefore taken them to 111, 19 points ahead of second-place Wrexham.

The University of Huddersfield now dominates the town centre and has more than 20,000 students … but it all started with five teenagers back in 1841
New research has revealed more about the five warehousemen aged from just 14 to 18 who simply wanted to improve their knowledge yet unwittingly started an educational dynasty in the town when they set up the Young Men’s Mental Improvement Society
History also shows that they certainly improved themselves
going on to achieve great things in their lives
This year marks 200 years of technical and professional education in Huddersfield with a series of events and activities planned throughout 2025
The anniversary marks the establishment of Huddersfield’s Scientific and Mechanic Institute in 1825 which was set up to bring the “acquisition of useful knowledge” within the reach of all
particularly the trading and working classes
The milestone sparked the university to look into its own roots which can be traced back to 1841 when five teenagers anxious to improve themselves founded what is now the University of Huddersfield
all five have been named for the first time along with more details about their lives
have painstakingly pieced together the evidence to give recognition to the people whose ambitions created higher education as we know it in the town
along with their benefactor Frederic Schwann
Heritage Quay public engagement officer Dave Smith said: “The long-accepted story was that it was five young men who worked for local businessman Frederic Schwann who formed the Young Men’s Mental Improvement Society in 1841
“Two of those men stayed quite involved in the running of the organisation and were regularly mentioned but the others never received their due
We have been able to correct that using contemporary accounts and rare archival material
“We rediscovered an account which stated that the five were connected with the Schwann business warehouse
One of our documents listed all the early members and the first five listed
One of the amazing things is to see how young they were
and yet were so motivated to better themselves and others
“We are so pleased to be able to share this information and demonstrate that it truly was working people who are responsible for us being here today.”
The research has shown that it was the introduction of a library for staff by Schwann that inspired the young men who wanted to share the excitement of learning with others in the town
From the group of 20 to 30 who started meeting in that year historians can trace a direct line to the modern university and
John Fligg Brigg was 18 and living on Birkhouse Terrace
He went on to become Mayor of Huddersfield as well as president of the organisation he helped found
He was a successful businessman who played a large part in the development of Victorian Huddersfield
George Perkin Beaumont lived in Brook’s Yard
This was the location of Frederic Schwann’s business and his father also worked in the warehouse
George was also a key member of the organising committee in the following years before moving to Bradford
He had a very successful career there as a merchant and was also an Alderman
which was an unelected member of the council
Benjamin Sharp lived in the Salford area of Lockwood around the bottom of Woodhead Road and was aged around 14 in 1841
He eventually moved to Leeds and became a prosperous coal merchant
Henry Lister lived in Hillhouse and was aged about 15 or 16
He spent his whole life in the Birkby/Fartown area and represented the latter in the first Huddersfield town council in 1868
He was a clothing manufacturer and his house on Halifax Old Road is now Grade-II listed
lived on the same street as Benjamin Sharp
Anthony did not stay in Huddersfield but moved to Chicago in 1848 to become a stone mason and died there in 1897
Many of the other early members also had a connection with the warehouse and the archive service is now asking for the public’s help to find out more about them
Dave added: “From the research we’ve undertaken into the first five members it has been clear how education transformed their lives
“We want to know more about the other people who attended those early classes

Hull FC suffered a third straight defeat, going 12-10 down to Huddersfield
Hull found themselves 8-0 behind after a George Flanagan penalty and Leroy Cudjoe try before Herman Ese’ese responded, but all of the drama came late in the first-half when Tom Burgess and Sam Eseh were sin-binned, and Liam Knight was sent off.
Both sides traded a try each midway through the second-half, but Hull FC were unable to turn around the deficit and they suffered a third straight defeat.
John Cartwright made two changes from the squad that lined up against Wigan Warriors last weekend, with Jordan Rapana recovering from a minor groin injury to start in the centres, and Sam Eseh returning to the bench.
The pair replaced Matty Laidlaw and Denive Balmforth.
The Giants made several changes from the side that lost to Castleford Tigers at the John Smith’s Stadium in Round 10, with players swapping positions.
George Flanagan started at fullback, Kieran Rush featured in the halves and Jake Bibby was at second-row.
Huddersfield have the best record of any Super League side at Magic Weekend and, despite their winless start to the campaign, they started on the front foot, earning an early penalty and forcing a drop-out soon after.
The Giants offered little in attack and conceded a couple of penalties deep inside Hull territory, frustrating Luke Robinson, but the Black & Whites were slow out of the blocks themselves in a sloppy opening.
Aaron Moore penalised Hull for being offside coming off their own defensive line and George Flanagan put the Giants 2-0 in front with a shot at goal after 17 minutes.
The Black & Whites continued to blunder on the approach to half-time with Jordan Rapana fumbling Zak Hardaker’s pass and frustrations grew in the stands from the travelling supporters – 3,000 strong from East Yorkshire.
Largely, Hull’s sloppiness had gone unpunished in the first-half. But the Giants came off the bridle after 27 minutes when a short pass from Adam Clune sent Leroy Cudjoe in underneath the posts, with the veteran scoring the first try on day two of Magic Weekend.
A successful captain’s challenge saw Hull gifted possession deep in Huddersfield territory. After a couple of knocks on the front door, a flicked offload from John Asiata sent Ese’ese crashing over for his eighth try of the season and Hull’s first points of the afternoon.
Asiata was forced off the field for a head injury assessment not long after his spectacular try assist. The loose-forward was hit late by Tom Burgess, and the Giants prop was sent to the sin-bin for the offence.
Hull looked to have struck with immediate effect when Ese’ese and Cade Cust linked up with a tidy one-two play, but Flanagan managed to hold up Cust and the ball in-goal.
That proved to be a key moment on the run-up to half-time, because after the ball was turned over, the two sides came to blows when Sam Eseh caught a falling Matty English high. Eseh was sent to the sin-bin and Hull were reduced to twelve-men.
But the drama wasn’t over there. With the final play of the first-half, Liam Knight caught Sam Hewitt with a shoulder to the head and the Australian prop forward was sent-off.
There was some calm restored at the start of the second-half, but FC’s rear guard still had to have their wits about them with Huddersfield allowing the ball to sing on multiple occasions. Ten minutes in and John Cartwright will have been relatively pleased.
But after returning to their full allowance of twelve players, Hull made a couple of errors and invited plenty of unwanted pressure inside their own territory.
And the Black & Whites were duly punished when Clune’s sensational cutout pass allowed Gagai to stroll in at the right corner.
A short kick-off and a sublime athletic leap from Davy Litten gave Hull possession inside the Huddersfield half, and a tidy shift left saw Lewis Martin finish with a dive in the left corner. But Aidan Sezer couldn’t convert from the touchline and the Airlie Birds still had work to do as they trailed by two points.
Will Pryce spilled a high kick under pressure, and when Huddersfield shifted the ball left, former Hull winger Adam Swift sized up a move to score in the corner, but he was denied by a determined Cade Cust.
The Giants, with the numerical advantage, were still dominating the battle for territory and Hull were enjoying precious little ball in an attacking position as the match grew older.
Zac Woolford’s smart grubber was swept up by Cust but Huddersfield got plenty of bodies in the tackle to force a drop-out and make the task even harder for Hull with six minutes to go.
The Black & Whites did force a late opportunity and they appeared to have wandered down a blind alley on the last play, but a hopeful kick from Tom Briscoe bounced off Adam Swift and it was deemed a knock on – until a successful Captain’s Challenge the Giants had held in reserve smartly.
