Vernon has been orbiting the word “fable” in his lyrics for years
though it’s always had a negative connotation
as though the mythic was something to be rejected or fought off
he implored whoever was at the other end of the song to “say nothing of my fable” before rounding back on himself: “I’m standing in your street now
and I carry his guitar.” There was the sense that Bon Iver’s foundational story
that journey into the frozen nowhere to make For Emma
had been repeated so many times that Vernon couldn’t identify with the protagonist anymore
Here, on “Awards Season,” the last track of the prologue, he plays the fable off against the “sable”—deepest black, dressed for mourning. He absorbs it as an identity: “I’m a sable/And honey, us the fable.” He is the abyss. In an interview with The New Yorker shortly before the EP’s release
he said that adopting sable as an identity in that line was a way of questioning whether his heartbreak was self-inflicted
Perhaps he had been “pressing the bruise[...] steering this ship into the rocks over and over again.” His pain brought him two Grammy Awards
and the admiration of some of the world’s biggest pop stars
carried skyward on a hallucinatory pedal steel and a sweep of violins
with Vernon singing in disbelieving reverie: “Damn if I’m not climbing up a tree right now.”
There are sounds and ideas on fABLE that Vernon has toyed with in the past, but here they are followed to their extremes. There was shimmer and shine to his pop-leaning collaborations with Francis and the Lights
but they produced nothing as pretty as the unabashed
hymnic love song “Walk Home.” Bon Iver may have found grandeur in diamond-cut CD-era production
but “If Only I Could Wait,” a gorgeously melodramatic ’90s R&B-pop ballad featuring Danielle Haim
is sleeker by half than anything else in his catalog
It’s a brief pause in the bliss and it never quite resolves
language breaks down: “Not for the freight/I’ll best alone/In high ways.” But it’s still a search for communion

Justin Vernon would rather not be doing any of this. Releasing a new Bon Iver album
“I don’t need to do this any more,” he says
that I’m going to do something I haven’t been comfortable with to put them out.”
As soon as Vernon hit the public eye in 2008
he started pulling away from its obsessive glare – and from the caricature of him as the lonely woodsman who made his era-defining debut
in a hunting cabin in his native Wisconsin
Kanye West and Taylor Swift wanted to collaborate
But anxious from the demands to flay himself for entertainment
which only created more distorting attention
As Vernon puts out his first album in six years
he knows better than to make such declarations
though he “might peace out” after releasing Sable
If he is going to give these pivotal songs a chance
the colour of life – T-shirt bearing the image of a giant salmon
“I’m not gonna hide my face any more,” he says
It’s why the 43-year-old songwriter is sitting cross-legged on my sofa in north London in mid-March
He’s kicked off his “footies” – hand-sprayed in salmon – freeing the ankle he recently sprained playing basketball

he relays the dark and light of his past half-decade with dude-ish enthusiasm and ease

The Sable part arrived as a three-track EP last autumn: lovely
straightforwardly sad songs about hitting a wall
“I wanted to try to be basic,” says Vernon
as new love enters his life: “You can be remade,” he sings
The revelation invites the radiantly funky secular gospel of nine infatuated songs that make up the remaining Fable part of the album
The lyrics have strikingly simple repeated internal rhymes
“I just want it to feel good and feel happy,” says Vernon
“To have a song about sex where the only way to listen to it is to move rather than be like
It has a beautifully silly chorus that crests like a sunrise: “Damn if I’m not climbing up a tree right now!” – childish ecstasy meeting the fear of what you do once you get that high
I feel so good I don’t know what to do,” says Vernon
“We put it on the wall to see what else gathered around it.”

but I remember telling my therapist: if a bus hit me today that would be a fucking relief.”
Vernon’s body had been “buzzing with anxiety for a dozen years”

“It was so funny to me that we had blown up so hard
so I had all that courage: y’all are crazy
I’m gonna do a record where it starts out like metal and ends as 80s sex rock.”
The pandemic soon prompted Vernon to ask himself some “hard questions” about the future
and wrote the incantatory Things Behind Things Behind Things
“I would like the feeling / I would like the feeling / I would like the feeling gone / Cause I don’t like the way it’s / I don’t like the way it’s / I don’t like the way it’s looking,” he sings
summoning it so that you could throw it in the wind and have it blow away like dust.”

“Like everything I had done to this point had been OK.” Then came the classic next step: “Let me just give you everything
Please give it to me constantly.” He had to pull back from the relationship

It might not matter whether we’re together or not because you changed me for the better
We should just be thankful for what we do have.”

I have to make that for myself before that can ever happen.”
Vernon might be technically middle-aged, but he’s stopped feeling as if he is running out of time. “I’ve done enough personal work where now I feel young,” he says. “When I was 33, I was like, oh my God, I’m gonna die soon – like, life is short. But now, I’ve got my health. I feel like I’ve got a lot of years to live. To be able to say that and feel truthful, I feel like I really overcame some shit.”
He knows some listeners might hate this sea change: after all, everything today is not exactly peaceful love. “I’m not really afraid of that,” he says. “I know that I need to do this for me. I would hate to think it feels like a distraction or that I’m ignoring the problems of the world to sell myself. But I give myself permission to put this kind of art into the world because it is about love, and we’re animals out here.”
It’s why he can’t diss that weird Dylan show. “This motherfucker is not of this planet. And just because I was uncomfortable with everything musically, I still watched something real, at least.”

First reported by the Bucks Free Press, Sequence (Iver) UK Ltd has asked Buckinghamshire Council for an environmental impact assessment of its plans
The proposed project would see the redevelopment of a former landfill site to host a data center and substation
located east of the M25 along Slough Road (A4007)
15,490 sqm (166,755 sq ft) building offering 48MW of IT capacity
The site was historically used as a landfill for the disposal of waste materials
Sequence (Iver) UK Ltd is a joint venture between Astra Partners Ltd and Valore Group
Companies within the group include investment manager Valore Capital Partners and Valore Ventures
The planning document noted that the project’s development team was involved in the Kildare Innovation Campus on the outskirts of Dublin in County Kildare
The 72-acre campus was formerly occupied by Hewlett Packard in the 1990s
More projects have been proposed in the area since the current government looked to open up more land on London’s Green Belt for development

After the opening song turns to silence, Justin continues with the acoustic finger-style folk songs and soothes our ears with ‘SPEYSIDE’ and ‘Awards Season’. I tested these songs on the Orange Essentials Box
The EQ controls allowed me to tone down the harshness of the falsetto
and I found the unit had no problem recreating the warmth of Vernon’s guitar tones
After the soft introduction of the first few tracks, the album has a more electronically produced nature. In ‘Short Story’, Kacy Hill’s line emphasises the whole album’s tone: ‘Time heals and then repeats’. I played the following few songs on our Cambridge Edge A and Harbeth M30.2 to get the most out of them
‘Everything Is Peaceful Love’ then introduces a beat to the album accompanied by a flanger synth that bounces through the arrangement
The album’s message feels a lot happier in the following few songs
You can clearly see the distinction in lyricism between ‘Walk Home’ and Vernon’s earlier
Vernon’s introspective ‘Day One’ is the most popular song on the album
Featuring Baltimore musicians Dijon and Flock of Dimes
the piece has a wonderfully complicated arrangement that draws you in and leaves you wanting nothing more

Musically, at least, Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon has spent the best part of two decades separating himself from the guy who holed up in a mountain cabin for the creation of the inarguably gorgeous ‘For Emma
A Million’ presented the antithesis of the debut’s stripped back heartbreak
favouring arrhythmic electronics over the singer-songwriter affair that permeated both the mountain record
and its double self-titled follow-up depicting a similar wilderness on its cover
he released his most recent Bon Iver outing
one that struck a balance between the two but never quite reached as far back as the snowy isolation
This album’s lead single ‘S P E Y S I D E’ - complete with jaunty formatting - quickly changed all that
its apologetic regret retuning to Justin’s delicate guitar picking and distinctive falsetto vocals
a seeming outcome of another round of self-enforced separation
fABLE’ alongside two other pared back reflections
the trio offering a false impression that Justin is back to his sombre musings
as ‘Short Story’ bridges to the gospel grandeur of ‘Everything Is Peaceful Love’
Bon Iver’s fifth studio album paints a different story
regret and period of reconnection is brief and pained
not least in the Dijon and Flock of Dimes featuring ‘Day One’

Justin Vernon returns with an epilogue to his 'sad troubadour' narrative
after so many years in the experimental wilderness

Bon Iver is now a band of 18 years and five albums’ standing
But their career to date has been a lesson in the unfaltering power of narrative
Not only was their 2007 debut a record of startling perfection
the story that accompanied its release – of a lovelorn songwriter retreating to a cabin in the Wisconsin woods to write a break-up record
that for nearly two decades it has been hard to outrun
Rather it is an album of great texture and variety
that directly addresses the weight of that sad troubadour reputation
It has been billed as “the epilogue” to the Bon Iver catalogue to date
made up of the three songs released on last year’s “Sable” EP
and opens with the track “Things Behind Things Behind Things”
“I would like the feeling/gone,” it begins
pedal steel layered over tachycardiac drums
Vernon’s voice holding something strained and irretrievable
a song that sets out plainly and moves through saxophone solo
us the fable.” It’s a classic Bon Iver line; perplexing on the page
The brief “Short Story” heralds the album’s second section
“Sun in my eyes.” It is followed by “Everything Is Peaceful Love”
and its radiant and faintly goofy refrain – “Damn if I’m not climbing up a tree right now” gives the impression of the singer clambering towards the light
and striking on something new: the feeling of burgeoning love
“I put that song up on the shelf,” he said recently
‘I’m going to wait until other songs feel like that.’” It’s an interesting turn of phrase; over and again
fABLE is an album that is felt as much as heard: the contraction of its opening tracks
Vernon seemed to shroud himself in both music and language; increasing the cast and remit of the Bon Iver project
He made his lyrics as opaque and imagistic as possible
He refused to be photographed without a face covering
The burden of being Mr Bon Iver was clearly
At one point he quite literally calls a spade a spade
It’s a development that clearly reflects an emotional transition
with everyone from his Big Red Machine counterparts
to pop behemoths such as Taylor Swift and Charli XCX
fABLE also includes production from Jim-E-Stack and collaborations with Danielle Haim
as the Bon Iver sound marches further into something warmer
opening with electric keys and building out over a steady percussion quite at odds to “Things Behind Things Behind Things”
The song brings a sense of quiet circularity not only to this record
If there’s a song that “There’s A Rhythm” most closely echoes – in sensation rather than sound
Both concern themselves with the healing power of rhythmic movement
leaving the listener with a sense of openness
But there is something about it that makes sense; as Vernon put it all those years ago: “It’s the sound of the unlocking

A planning application has been put in by Network Rail to build a new entrance/exit for Iver railway station
Thorney Lane LLP is currently bringing forward a series of proposals that would result in the closure and redevelopment of Thorney Business Park
Planning permission was granted last May for a data centre at the western end of the site
and a planning application was submitted in December 2024 for a second data centre to be situated alongside the first one (yet to be decided)
a planning application will be submitted later this year for new homes
public open space and other facilities in the eastern section of the site
The redevelopment of Thorney Business Park ‘presents a unique opportunity to improve access to Iver Station’
as part and parcel of some other improvements there
Thorney Lane has already applied for a 310-space station car park on the business park site (also yet to be determined by the council)
Within these latest plans from Network Rail
the footbridge that provides access to the station platforms from the south side would be extended north to cross the entire railway
which would provide stairs and a lift down to street level
Thorney Lane has committed to fund the construction of both the station car park and the new entrance/exit
if planning consent is secured for the second data centre
development manager for Thorney Lane said the company was ‘pleased’ by the plans
“We have always wanted to make sure that our proposals for the redevelopment of Thorney Business Park enable access to Iver Station from the north side of the railway
and the application is a major step towards turning this idea into a reality,” he said
“If our application for a second data centre is approved
we will fund not only the new entrance/ exit but also a 310-space station car park on our site
these improvements should dramatically improve access to the station for Iver residents
as well as alleviating the congestion problems outside the station’s one and only current access in Richings Park.”
The planning application is under ‘prior approval’
a pathway that bypasses the full planning process if certain requirements are met
This falls within specific rights granted to statutory undertakers
They do not need full planning permission for works on land they already operate and are directly related to the running of the railway
The council can only refuse the proposal if it raises serious concerns on a limited number of grounds
Often there is little in the way of information for these kinds of applications – and in this case
there are no documents currently logged in Buckinghamshire Council’s online planning portal for this scheme

Here’s our ranking of his best work on other people’s songs
On its first album, For Emma, Forever Ago, Bon Iver introduced a sonic signature: sparkling choruses of vocals, polished to a glittering sheen with Auto-Tune. It quickly became a ubiquitous pop music device. Francis Farewell Starlite, aka Francis and the Lights, carried the baton on by developing a new, layered vocal tool called the Prismizer, used on albums including Frank Ocean’s Blonde
This makes “Friends” a neat full-circle moment: two modern pioneers of singing technology vocally jamming out over a bouncing
A lot of Vernon’s features are like sriracha
or similar: a dash of sonic flavour that makes something pop without changing the fundamentals
and Vernon’s falsetto blends into the existing harmonies or hovers in the background
adding just that little something to elevate the song
You can hear why he’s in such demand for this kind of thing
A similar example is “My Eyes”, the highlight of Travis Scott’s most recent album
It’s a two-parter: the second section is more rapid-fire and ravey
while the first has gently clicking drums and very pretty synth work that intertwines with vocals from Scott
sitting in the background of the production like a melancholy ghost
It’s one of the records that really illustrates his subtle but pervasive influence on vocal melodies in modern hip-hop
Speaking of hip-hop: Vernon has steered the genre with more than his voice. This doesn’t (at least to the naked ear) have any Vernon vocals on it, but “Crabs in a Bucket”, the opener of Vince Staples’ excellent 2017 album Big Fish Theory, does have his production credit. It’s an intriguingly weird, garage-y concoction that opens an album full of rap-dance crossovers
that Vernon was in all the right recording studios in the 2010s
Vernon linking up with James Blake made a lot of sense in the early 2010s: here were two sensitive dudes doing weird things with their voices
and acquiring more prominence than their experimental
inward-looking music might have initially suggested
Their first collab was on “Fall Creek Boys Choir” – a reference to the location of Vernon’s Wisconsin studio – which featured on Enough Thunder
with Blake’s minimal electronic percussion moving Vernon away from the country cosiness his voice was at the point most associated with
Vernon ventured further into the Taylor Swift Musical Universe on its follow-up
with several instrumental contributions and a central role in the self-titled closing song
first with those tell-tale mumbled harmonies
when the dominant piano melody switches up
with lead locals that layer over Swift’s own
hitting a red-hot falsetto before the song settles down again
Even the best of Vernon’s guest features tend to deliver the familiar sound that artists and listeners love
gets something a bit different from him – a testament to her own skill as a collaborator
sounds gassed that the Sad Boy Special Relationship is back
because James Blake’s third album was where he started to shake off his moodiness to write happier songs
“I Need a Forest Fire” is a highlight of the album
really: there’s a palpable delight in the expressive power of the voice
as different vocal lines and samples come together like a glittering constellation
Fable has focused on its sunny mood as a departure from the usual Bon Iver vibe – this song tells us that potential was always there in the open

Vernon and West, who legally changed his name to Ye in 2022, were once closely linked after the rapper was introduced to Vernon’s Blood Bank EP by his keyboard player
After West invited Vernon out to Hawaii to collaborate
they produced “Lost in the World” – which sampled the hook from Bon Iver’s “Woods” – regarded as a highlight of West’s 2010 album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Vernon was credited on a further two songs on the album – “Dark Fantasy” and “Monster”
Rick Ross and Nicki Minaj –and on three songs on 2013’s Yeezus
West brought Vernon out on stage during his Glastonbury headline performance
introducing the indie musician as “one of the baddest white boys on the planet”
In a new interview with The Guardian
Vernon spoke about the feeling that fame and exhaustion might have made him a “s***head” to his friends and family: “The attention came to me and of course I’m going to react
He appeared to suggest that West had veered into that self-destructive territory, having notoriously championed Donald Trump during his first presidential campaign and sparked uproar over a series of antisemitic outbursts
the most recent of which took place in February this year
Vernon, meanwhile, has been critical of Trump’s America in his music and endorsed Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election. He has also collaborated with pop star Taylor Swift on her albums Folklore and Evermore
with whom West has previously clashed with
“I don’t really want to talk about Kanye,” he said in the interview

it’s usually a Midwestern-worthy midrange turnaround; he hits one early on and then mimes a gun going back in its holster

Vernon says he thinks of basketball like jazz: “You’re improvising in a form, and you’re flowing, and you’re following momentum, and you’re retreating from momentum, you're following the lead energy. It’s exactly like jazz.” Poetry in motion, but also notably a team sport—knowing how to guide while also getting others involved. There’s a rhythm
The first do-or-die game is surprisingly close and physical as the fourth quarter starts to wind down

“That only happened once, and I got For Emma out of it,” Vernon says. “But you’re never really on your own, even though you think you are.”
A government review of a local council’s decision to block a US-based company from building a hyperscale datacentre in Iver
Buckinghamshire Council refused permission in November 2022 for US investment company Affinius Capital to proceed with its plans to redevelop an industrial estate in Court Lane
Buckinghamshire and build a 65,000m2 datacentre on the site instead
The reason given by the council for the refusal is that the project would be an inappropriate use of Green Belt Land, which are protected pieces of land that are intended to prevent the onset of urban sprawl
Shortly after coming to power in July 2024, the Labour government pledged to review the council’s decision to block the project in support of its strategy to stimulate the UK’s economic growth by accelerating the delivery of large-scale infrastructure projects
The developer had raised an appeal against the council’s decision
and a month before the government’s intervention a public local inquiry was held over four days in June 2024
Following a review of the council’s decision and the local inquiry
the government has now granted Affinius Capital permission to proceed with the project
The letter states that the decision to overturn Buckinghamshire Council’s decision to block the build was made by the minister of state for Housing and Planning Matthew Pennycook
on behalf of the secretary of state Angela Rayner
“Weighing in favour of the proposal are the need for new datacentres
which each carry significant weight,” the letter stated
“Weighing against the proposal are harm to Green Belt
which carries substantial weight; harm to [a nearby] listed building
which carries great weight; and landscape harm and visual harm
there are “very special circumstances to justify this development in the Green Belt”
adding: “The secretary of state therefore concludes that the appeal should be allowed and planning permission granted.”
The letter also states that the secretary of state’s decision on this matter can be challenged in the High Court
provided an application to do so is received within six weeks from the date of the letter
Computer Weekly contacted Affinius Capital for comment on this story
but no response was received by the time of publication
The Affinius Capital project was one of two datacentre developments the government placed under review in July 2024
The other is being overseen by Oxford-based developer Greystoke Land
after its bid to build a £1bn datacentre in Abbots Langley

and yet transcend it with an endlessly surprising series of musical shifts - including a typical brief and haunting distorted sax break
supported by co-producer Jim E-Stack knows how to build drama in his little jewels of song – most of which end abruptly
With “Short Story” we plunge into a wonderland of sounds
the kind of rich and layered soundscape that glitters when heard under the influence of consciousness-altering substances
a tradition of creative mind-messing that reaches back to the early days of psychedelia
This music is a trip! “Everything is Peaceful Love” a gentle feelgood tune in which the honeyed sound of Greg Leisz’s steel guitar is matched by the otherworldly pulse of a morphagene
one of many digitally versatile instruments that enhance the album
driven a sleazy and very low-register bass
in conversation with Vernon’s soft and emotional voice
there is the cool and comforting joy of music that expresses the spirit
in a positive feedback loop that Justin Vernon and his collaborators know just how to deliver
perfectly calibrated for maximum pleasure. “If Only I Could Wait” is a small masterpiece
that unfolds as pure pop gold – laden with heart-warming reverb – once again
the wonderfully appealing hesitation that is so much Bon Iver’s trademark pulls one forwards inexorably

in harmony and counterpoint. Another hit for sure. Bon Iver have come up with some immensely appealing and highly original albums
an album that will be hard to beat when it comes to selecting the greatest moments of the year

While geared towards granting a pleasant listen throughout
fABLE can suffer from shallow entries and uncharacteristically dated production
“Short Story” feels like a much-needed warm hug at the front door after returning from a long trek through hardships
but this blooming ecstasy wears off pretty quickly on second and later listens

fABLE’s end goal arguably is to soothe – not to impress
“There’s a Rhythm” is the best song on fABLE in that love’s intensity has waned a little
allowing space for contemplation without forgoing besottedness quite yet
and his attentive and patient synths carry him on like a dear friend
It’s the charm of sensibility – however light it may appear – that could’ve exerted more presence here: not to leave love’s beguiling allure completely
but to navigate around it and display all of its hidden shades
fABLE’s slog in the middle wouldn’t have been as hollow had that seeped into the central concept more
the record shows signs that Bon Iver’s discography runs in duologies
These rays of light might be a one-time occurrence – and it wouldn’t hurt to appreciate them while we can – or a setting piece for his next big thing

Vernon shared the photo along with the caption "TRUE LOVE IS A fABLE." The same photo was included in the album's behind-the-scenes book earlier this month, Stereogum notes.
The photo certainly seems to be a baby announcement, although it's a bit more complicated than that. Just last month, Vernon explicitly told The New York Times' Popcast that he isn't a father, saying, "I thought I'd have kids and a wife and like, that kind of love in my life. But I have my health. I have joy. I have love in my life everywhere I look."
Furthermore, Vernon and Milioti aren't publicly known to be in a relationship together, and she wasn't ever photographed being pregnant, despite being in the public eye. (Of course, there are ways for a couple to have a baby that don't involve being pregnant.)

like Bruce Springsteen’s “Streets of Philadelphia” or Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush’s “Don’t Give Up,” resembles mere gooey radio fodder until you catch the cosmic questions the lyrics are pondering: “Can I live inside this state

Despite opening this album with the admission that “I have been afraid of changing”, indie-folk miserablist Justin Vernon really gets his groove on with SABLE, fABLE, his fifth album with Bon Iver
After all the years of circling his lo-fi anxiety
it’s lovely to hear him break out of the log cabin of his own head and breathe in the wholesome wonders of the outside world
Although he’s spoken of making “radiant pop music”, his version of that (with the help of producer Jim-E Stack) is to brighten his earthy, acoustic landscapes with synths and drum pads. It’s not dissimilar to what Sufjan Stevens likes to do when finding the silver linings in his own clouds
Single “Everything is Peaceful Love” finds him exalting the ordinary world
if I’m not climbing up a tree right now!” he sings
falsetto notes reaching skywards over the slinky
supple rubber of the 80s-style drum pads flexing beneath Ben Lester’s easy-going pedal steel solo
Explaining his new philosophy in a Spotify interview with Lil Yachty, Vernon said: “Somebody came into my life and rearranged it.” As a consequence he “started to repair the past”, quit smoking and realised that “maybe I shouldn’t put true love on a pedestal, maybe I should put it down here where it is”.
Apparently, he’s launching this record in LA by participating in a basketball tournament (sending fans into a frenzy of speculation about which other introspective musos might turn out to surprise us by proving themselves hoop-shooting aces). It’s cool to hear Vernon choosing fun at last. It’s a decision that’s opened up a whole new court for his melodies to play in. A slam dunk.

Bon Iver have announced a range of unconventional brand partnerships in connection with their new album ‘SABLE, fABLE’
Justin Vernon and co. released their fifth studio album on Friday (April 11) via Jagjaguwar. It serves as the follow-up to the 2024 EP ‘SABLE’ and it has been produced by Vernon and Jim-E Stack at Vernon’s own April Base studio in Wisconsin.
To mark the release, the band have unveiled a list of over two dozen brands that they have partnered with to promote the album, many of which are artisanal food and drink companies who have created special salmon-themed products.
They include Courage Bagels, who are providing a Bon Iver salmon sable plate, Fell + Cole, who are offering a whiskey ice cream and a grapefruit, thyme and whiskey sorbet, and Kometen Brood, who have made a range of sourdough salmon pastries.

NME commended the album which was feared to be the departure of the Bon Iver project

Three buildings proposed next to three planned Segro facilities
An application has been filed to develop a data center campus outside London in Iver
Thorney Lane LLP has filed with South Bucks County Council for a proposed data center development comprising up to 90,000 sqm (968,750 sq ft) of floorspace at the Thorney Business Park on Thorney Lane
The proposal is for three data center buildings up to 25m tall
The real estate giant is known to be developing data centers on an adjacent plot of land that is also part of the Thorney Lane Business Park
First announced in 2022, the Segro Iver data center campus at Thorney Road Business Park will comprise three buildings offering 990,000 sq ft (92,000 sqm) of space. The company received the green light for the first three buildings earlier this year
The 18.6-hectare site is located approximately 5 km east of Slough
It is bound to the north by the Grand Union Canal
to the west by the remaining area of the Thorney Lane business park
The site was used for gravel extraction until the 1960s when it was filled and used for industrial purposes
Real estate firm Greystoke had been hoping to develop a data center campus in Iver but saw its proposals rejected twice. The application is now being reconsidered under the new Labour government
CyrusOne first filed for permission to redevelop the Shannon Group headquarters, located on Dromenagh Farm on Sevenhills Road into a data center campus known as the ‘Iver Heath Data Park’ project back in October 2022
The original filing aimed to see the existing 5,850 sqm (7,000 sq ft) property redeveloped for up to 63,000 sqm (678,000 sq ft) of data center facilities in a plot of 16.59 hectares
The site will have 10 data halls across six buildings supporting around 90MW of capacity
The project would include a new on-site substation
The refiled statements seem to follow a similar goal
The application notes the site would use outdoor air for ‘free’ cooling when external conditions are suitable
The site currently consists of multiple large buildings
The Shannon Group also operates helicopters and a motor racing team from the site
and logistics base for the previous 30 years
the Shannon Group provides civil engineering
The company has occupied the site for more than 20 years; a number of smaller companies also occupy smaller parts of the proposed site
Part of the property has been occupied by Living Props
a manufacturer and supplier of living and artificial trees and fauna for the film industry
There are also two residential properties on the site
Part of the land was previously a landfill
