but also its unique quirks and the humour that defines its people.”

A Rushcliffe man living with dementia is spreading the word about the benefits of writing and reciting poetry for people with the condition
performing a poem about his childhood in the hope of inspiring those with dementia to connect with words and rediscover their identities
produced by local videographer Sam Lindley
Tony explains how poetry helps him unlock treasured memories and retain his ability to communicate
alleviating confusion and frustration while providing vital reassurance
“Poetry keeps you in touch with words… and you can remember those words because they are your making – nobody else’s,” he says
Tony, a former businessman from Keyworth
was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2023 but noticed the first signs of the condition five years ago
Frustrated by his sudden decline in health
he searched for an outlet that would lift his mood and potentially improve his cognitive skills
That’s when he discovered his love for poetry
Managing Director of Right at Home Nottingham
which provides dementia care and support for Tony and his wife Jackie at their home in Keyworth
and poetry provides him with an outlet to express his emotions and life experiences through creative language
It has nourished his imagination and enabled him to engage with the world around him.”
Tony intends to share his video and connect with social groups in Nottingham
inspiring those with dementia to express themselves through poetry
and believe you can still do the things you love.”
Right at Home Nottingham is a locally owned homecare provider
delivering specialist care and support services to adults in their own homes

Dog owners in Rushcliffe are again being reminded to pick up after their pets and dispose of it in a bin after residents have been fined for breaching the rules
Rushcliffe Borough Council(RBC) would like to thank the vast majority of owners who always responsibly pick up after their pet but aware unfortunately not all follow this
A dog owner was served a fine in Keyworth for littering a bag of dog waste with other litter items on a grass verge and the offender paid the notice to avoid further possible formal action
Another individual was also fined following an offence on March 28 in the same village with a £100 fine for failing to clear up after their dog fouling in a public area
RBC are reminding residents that wardens are patrolling and if an offence is spotted
they will issue a fine of £150 for littering or £100 for not clearing up after a dog
Under a local PSPO or Public Space Protection Order in operation across the majority of the Borough
it is an offence not to clear up after your dog or to be out and about with your dog without a means to pick up their waste
Action around it continues on engaging and educating dog owners on their responsibilities
monitoring hotspot areas and applying the fixed penalties when offences are observed
Dog fouling on public footpaths and playing fields can cause many problems and in the worst cases can lead to blindness due to an infection called toxocariasis caused by the round worm Toxocara Canis found in dog faeces
The PSPO is in place for all residents’ protection
the renewal of which is currently in process with overwhelming ongoing public support from residents
It also allows for further action to be taken on those who do not observe dog exclusion zones which apply to all children’s play areas
skate parks and gym equipment zones which are either fenced or enclosed across the Borough

Edinburgh
There are sundry accounts of performers’ gender journeys on offer at this year’s Fringe
from the military grade camp of Dylan Mulvany to the ironic snippets buried amidst Patti Harrison’s hysterically toxic weirdness
I’d be surprised if any of them were as puppyishly likeable as Sarah Keyworth’s ‘My Eyes are Up Here’
Ostensibly a guide to their coming out as non-binary and having accompanying top surgery
the fairly heavy subtext to it all is how great it has to have a supportive family
The show is really a happy rundown of Keyworth’s relationship with their parents and brother over the years
Which could obviously be fairly weak sauce as stand up but Keyworth is an expert storyteller who revels in muddying the journey with digressions
perverse thoughts and an amusing recurring bit about them wanting to stalk their brother.
Although Keyworth is an irresistibly wholesome presence on the stage
they’re also not exactly a sweet naif and they take great pleasure in launching into a discussion of the logistics of a lesbian foursome that some of their friends had
or observing that outrage traffic from transphobia instagram users is really great for engagement
and I suppose Keyworth is both a wonderful ambassador for non-binary people - they explain their journey and the terminology etc with the lucid
friendly elan of a CBeebies presenter - and also the simple joys of being part of a loving family
I think its heart lies in a slight contrivance insofar as it sets up the surgery etc if there might be some sort of pushback from their family or wider complication and no
it’s a story of lovely people being lovely to each other
and Keyworth is having a lovely time now they’ve had the surgery
rather that it’s all ultimately a bit of a frictionless set and a bit of grit might have made it more memorable
But they’re an extremely pleasurable person to spend an hour with

trentbarton is increasing frequency and introducing other improvements on eight key routes
The first wave of enhancements arrives on Sunday July 14 and will see increased Monday-to-Saturday frequency to every ten minutes between Ilkeston and Nottingham on the two and between Ilkeston and Derby on ilkeston flyer
There will also be an earlier morning trip each way Monday to Saturday between Nottingham and Langley Mill
Then from Sunday July 28 swift will enjoy an increased Monday to Saturday frequency to every 30 minutes between Ashbourne and Derby
The four other routes will be getting their improvements at a date yet to be decided:
The enhanced services are designed to encourage more people to travel by bus and improve the experience of all customers on major routes in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire
The additional services are being made possible by the support of local authorities through their Government funded Bus Service Improvement Plans
The summer improvements follow hot on the heels of spring boosts to the timetables of skylink Derby and red arrow from March 31
boosting frequencies and giving customers old and new the chance to travel in style and on time
“We are grateful to our local council partners for working with us to encourage more people to travel by bus
reducing the number of cars on the road and cutting congestion – all of which will improve journey times and air quality
“Having the support of local councils means our local communities are better served by their local bus operator to everyone’s mutual benefit.”
Sarah Keyworth is a self-proclaimed “people-pleaser,” and it’s somewhat evident; not just in their stand up
but in this interview (“I spoke for so long,” they say
after speaking for a perfectly acceptable amount of time
Keyworth has been on the circuit for well over a decade
but their online presence in recent years has bolstered their popularity to dizzying heights
not just for the usual quick-witted swipes at hecklers that audiences are perhaps used to seeing from experienced comics
but more for the fact that the interactions are genuine
and the breezy humour which is seemingly inherent to Keyworth’s character is simply an added bonus
“I always loved the spontaneity of live stand-up when I watched it when I was younger… those moments of artists talking and you feel like it’s exclusively happening with those people in that space
I always found that to be the most exciting.” Keyworth is keen to make sure their audience is having a good time
and in their latest hour My Eyes Are Up Here
a show which Keyworth claims is their “most cheerful yet”
that Keyworth shies away from the topics that a more intolerant (read: ignorant) crowd would find displeasing
My Eyes Are Up Here is a direct exploration of their decision to undergo top surgery
They’re funny without being horrific or traumatic.” The love is apparent: one of two phone calls Keyworth receives during our chat is from their mum – “my brother’s getting married in August
and you’d think my mum is getting married in August” – and the other is from a food delivery company about a care package Keyworth is trying to send one of their mates
“It’s good to be like ‘I’m exactly who you thought I was gonna be.’”
Keyworth has some sound advice for those just starting out – “Don’t.” Then
“There’s sort of this mythology of the Fringe of people getting discovered and careers being made in conversations at bars
of deals being done – nothing gets commissioned at 4am in the Pleasance Dome
Go to bed.” They emphasise how important it is to stay well during a gruelling
month-long run a couple of times: “Look after your body and brain”
their words laced with what now feels like their trademarked genuine thoughtfulness
My Eyes Are Up Here yields no big surprises
and sexuality that we’ve seen from Keyworth before
Touching on a topic like gender identity (although not the crux of the show)
which already suffers intense scrutiny and speculation
means that a big twist or a sucker-punch isn’t really necessary
compassion and care are what’s actually needed instead
and we’re certain Keyworth will deliver on that front
Keyworth’s keen to shout out some of the acts they’re really looking forward to seeing
Louise Atkinson and newbie Dee Allum both get an early mention and the likes of Lara Ricote
Ania Magliano and Olga Koch all quickly roll off their tongue
And there’s men – go see the men,” with Dan Tiernan getting a look in too

with each batch of material tracking different relationships
"Sometimes I feel that I just keep running from it," laughs Keyworth
"It'll be interesting to look back at it after another 10 years or something and see the trajectory
I think it's nice to have the trajectory of my identity mapped out as a journey of discovery rather than a 'this is fully formed and who I am'
launched their career with material that dissected gender and questioned the meaning of 'boy' and 'girl'
Keyworth hosted a BBC Radio 4 comedy series called Are You A Boy or A Girl
and currently co-hosts a podcast called Thank F*ck For That with Micky Overman that tracks big moments that almost changed their guests' lives
with their new show detailing their journey to getting top surgery
"My relationship with my identity has changed as the last decade of culture has changed," they explain
"Ten years ago I didn't even know what non-binary was
the progression of the last 10 years means that other people haven't had to have the same level of confusion or turmoil or difficulties
Being so vocal about their personal experience on a public stage means that Keyworth is often approached by strangers who may be going through the same thing
Sometimes I get parents or teachers saying 'I have a child saying this' and 'what do I do?'
My answer is often the same: the fact that you're here and you're having this conversation with me
it kind of means you're not going to do the wrong thing
There's no perfect route but you're caring enough to engage and you're not dismissing the conversation
"The message of this show that I've written is that the most important thing you can give to anyone is just acceptance of what they're saying about who they are
The decision to get top surgery is far from straight forward
with psychiatric assessments and doctors appointments aplenty
Keyworth always saw the experience as being rife with material
"I started writing stand-up about it as I was going through the process," they say
The things you have to do in order to be allowed to do it are quite strange
I think there's something inherently funny about human experiences and bodies and my relationship with my boobs and stuff like that
"There's a comedy element and I always feel very strongly that it has to be funny to everyone
There has to be a way that you can draw everyone into this conversation."
As well as sharing their own experience on stage
Keyworth shares insights into how their relationship with their parents and loved ones has evolved over the years
they say that their family has being exceptionally supportive
"There's a version of this show that somebody else might write outlining all the difficult things that they had to deal with - that version of the show doesn't exist for me
where there's love here and there's acceptance here
"That's maybe more valuable and more powerful than hearing about the conflict
there is space for those conversations and theose stories definitely should be told
but I really wanted to honour them [their family] with this show."

Jennifer and David Manning-Ohren of Wild Things Keyworth have walked from Keyworth to East Leake on a litterpick challenge they named the LITTERnal Equinox
The couple set off from Keyworth on Sunday 17 March 2024 and did litterpicks early in the morning over an eleven-week period
returning and starting again where they left off
They had helpers along the way and finally reached East Leake via Widmerpool
Wysall and Costock at 9am on Bank Holiday Monday 27 May
In total they walked and cleaned up the countryside for 24 hours collecting 52 bags over a 12kms distance
Both sides of the road were addressed including verges and ditches
They shared video footage and photos of litter on their Facebook page
On one occasion they picked litter for 5 hours straight
They soon realised that 2 hour stints were more manageable and meant they weren’t getting symptoms like RSI or backache
They suggested that although some positive disposal messaging is on the products themselves
they believe stores can have an impact in getting the message out too
A lot of money is spent on appealing to consumers to buy products
but is there in-store messaging about responsible disposal they say
A national bottle return scheme is a consideration
in Germany and the Netherlands you have to pay a deposit for plastic bottles you buy
Once empty you bring them back to the supermarket and your deposit is returned by putting it in a recycling machine
Many of these products were shattered by heavy vehicles on verges causing glass
other items were languishing in streams turning the water rotten and being buried in soil
Other products were waiting as entrapment potential
For the big things like tyres and cabinets and major fly tipping
they contacted the RBC Streetwise team and gave them the W3W address for the location
they alerted Streetwise who came to pick up the filled bags at an agreed spot and they were very supportive
Their efforts will culminate in a special clear up of the car park behind East Leake Co-op
They are donating any funds raised to their friend Sam Perkins and his charity Stand Against MND based in East Leake
founder of Wild Things Keyworth said: “Our combined efforts have contributed towards keeping this countryside route litter-free
“We aimed to link up with litterpickers in East Leake to compliment Sam’s 50/50 campaign and through this endeavour we have met regular litter pickers
Richard and Andrea which has been great.”
“It has been a long 24hrs accumulated over a number of weeks
so please do show a little care and responsibility.”
requires a combination of individual and group action plus for businesses to acknowledge that litter can often come about because of the products they sell
helping people of all ages understand the impact of litter on the natural world and the hazards it presents to our wildlife and essentially being a little more conscientious and thoughtful.”
“Amongst the troubling rubbish you do also get to hear uplifting birdsong
We had a wonderful chorus from a Song Thrush at Costock on our last session before reaching East Leake.”
The group now have a finale event in the car park behind the Co-op store in East Leake on Sunday 30th June starting at 7am for 2 hours
They say do as much of the 2 hours as you like
In surely one of the stand-out shows of this year's Edinburgh Fringe
Sarah Keyworth takes on top surgery – and entirely defuses a potentially thorny topic
Keyworth has the audience eating out of their hand immediately with genial chit chat about the 30th birthday spent with their tight-knit family
Keyworth's birthday sees them at home eating their mum's rainbow cake; meanwhile a friend celebrates her birthday with a lesbian foursome
'just wouldn't thrive.' That twinkle is a key ingredient in the Keyworth magic
allowing them to go to some surprisingly edgy places with an audience not necessarily versed in queer culture
One joke about the top surgery is actually pretty audacious and the fact they pull it off – to gales of laughter – is testament to what they have created in the room: an ideal
the show is bound together with looped callbacks
which also work to emphasise the sense of familiarity and shared experience
Describing Keyworth's intention as 'consciousness raising' may seem clunky but the objective is still an important one
especially given current stormy arguments around gender
Their cheeriness doesn't preclude some steel
mocking the hysteria of the debate in the description of their psychiatric assessment on Zoom; asked to prove there's no one coercing their testimony
they imagine a Drag Queen holding a gun in the corner of the room
resplendent in a dress made of tits and screaming for more (tits)
Keyworth ends the show with heartfelt gratitude
as they celebrate their good fortune in being accepted and loved
Sarah Keyworth: My Eyes Are Up Here

The Vale of Belvoir’s community radio station 103 The Eye – which recently gained the King’s Award for Voluntary Service – has started broadcasting on an additional platform
It now transmits on DAB+ in addition to 103 FM and on-line
the station’s managing director said: “Since the regulator OFCOM allowed us to implement a power increase four years ago
reception on FM has improved significantly
the Vale of Belvoir is quite hilly and there are some low-lying areas where our FM is still not as strong as it is in Melton
“Relaying our station via the new Small Scale DAB transmitter in Nottingham gives people in the north-western part of the Vale
Radcliffe-on-Trent and Keyworth another listening choice.”
The station which is operated entirely by volunteers was the first in the UK to launch under the new tier of community radio licensed by OFCOM in 2005

From Anna Akana’s dark successor to Baby Reindeer
to Sarah Keyworth’s warmly witty exploration of gender identity
there’s plenty to love at this year’s Fringe
Culture | Comedy
Anyone who thought the Edinburgh Fringe bubble would burst after Covid should think again. There are more than 1,000 comedy shows here this year
And it goes without saying that we need laughs right now
For the next three weeks I’ll be picking the best of the bunch
If you can’t make it to the Scottish capital this cream of the comedy crop will be touring soon too
You could stick a pin in the brochure and have an enjoyable time
but if I was to pick a potential winner of the Edinburgh Comedy Award for Best Show I’d probably put my shirt on Sarah Keyworth
The Nottingham-born comedian’s latest show My Eyes Are Up Here tackles the tricky territory of gender identity while also remembering to pack in a phenomenally high punchline rate
recently had an elective double mastectomy
and explains the reasons with warmth and wit
while also offering the best-ever definition of non-binary: “If I was on the Titanic I'd be allowed in the lifeboat but I’d be expected to row.” Riffs about everything from nipple placement to memorable haircuts make a must-see show that is both heartfelt and hilarious
in a different outpost of the Monkey Barrel empire
Joe Kent-Walters is holding court in the guise of spoof Yorkshire compere Frankie Monroe
His face is smeared with white greasepaint
his suit is shabby and his club is threatened with closure
It transpires that two decades earlier Monroe signed a satanic pact and Lucifer now wants his night spot back
Imagine a cross between Faust and Phoenix Nights and you are heading in the right direction
Kent-Walters shows total commitment to his magnificently monstrous MC
swooping over the crowd to deliver his creepy catchphrase “good boy”
Throw in a ventriloquism act with a scabby dog puppet
an ode to his trowel and a spot-the-scampi fries competition and you’ve got ghoulish absurdity at its classiest
Chloe Petts has been on the cusp of awards recognition for a while
Could 2024 be the year that Petts wins prizes
How You Don’t reveals how this Crystal Palace devotee dealt with trolls after landing a slot on Sky Sports
The vicious comments soon started coming in – usually of the “are you a man or a woman?” variety – and Petts had to get up to speed quickly on how to deal with it
This story is deftly juxtaposed with memories of her Kent all-girls school, “as if Enid Blyton wrote Skins”
and the psychological terror that teenage girls can inflict on each other
joking that she would be unlikely to be bullied even in a men’s prison
Don’t mess with Petts and don’t miss her either
The Fringe reminds us that comedy can go into the most unlikely places. Richard Gadd’s Baby Reindeer started life in Edinburgh and Asian-American YouTuber Anna Akana’s It Gets Darker pushes things even further
If Akana can emerge from this perhaps the human spirit can handle anything
Akana recalls her stalker threatening to shoot her and appearing on her doorstep
she adds: "he bought stamps." On the subject of her sister’s suicide
humour is her coping mechanism as she jokes about the funeral and the macabre souvenir she always carries
Mark Simmons is the lemon sorbet of stand-up
He has quickly built up a following on social media
meaning that he can fill out rooms in Edinburgh and tour without a major TV profile
It helps that he is so skilful at wordplay
punning for gold where others would not even think of looking
Simmons does not recite gags like an AI chatbot
he structures his set and has some inspired callbacks
When it comes to judging the best jokes of the Fringe Simmons could fill all the top spots
Here’s just one of many gems: “I was going to sail around the globe in the world’s smallest ship

Timothy Spall will lead as “an eccentric national treasure” in a new BBC comedy drama called Death Valley
the series will follow John Chapel (Spall)
a retired actor who starred in the fictional detective TV show Caesar
John teams up with an actual detective sergeant in Janie Mallowan (Gwyneth Keyworth)
they must negotiate their opposing instincts to solve a murder
and all their arguments about the case and their personal lives
they soon come to realise that they are the closest thing one another has to a best friend
In a similar vein to its cosy crime phenomenon Death In Paradise
whose Caribbean setting has long served British audiences with some tropical escapism
the BBC has said that Wales itself will be providing “various stunning locations” as “a backdrop to their investigations.”
Spall’s casting follows his recent multiple accolades for his heartrending performance as the late Peter Farquhar in The Sixth Commandment
He said: “I’m relishing the prospect of getting stuck in as we embark on creating this truly oddball detective duo who develop their unusual combined eccentric skills to hilarious and surprisingly successful effect in beautiful rural Wales and its gorgeous towns and villages.”
Writer and creator Paul Doolan likes his unlikely couples
having previously written the RTS Award-nominated Bloods for Sky
Bloods followed the antics of an oddball paramedic partnership made up of Samson Kayo and Jane Horrocks
as they dealt with emergency calls and each other’s foibles
who has directed beloved British sitcoms such as Ghosts and Motherland
said: “This series has all the hallmarks of a BBC Comedy classic; it’s the perfect comedy drama caper which never forgets the funny
Filming for Death Valley will begin in Wales in June 2024

she celebrates the peculiarities inherent to simply being human and forging bonds with one another
References are made to one friend in particular

It is eventually revealed to us that he has passed
Keyworth muses that going through it when those around you aren’t grieving feels like “being at a party when everyone’s on ecstasy and you’re just trying to find your phone”
and Keyworth takes the opportunity to banter with the audience from time to time
that she and Paul loved to the point that once she couldn’t get through it in a set for laughing so much
But it’s so ridiculous that it goes all the way round back to funny
It’s a lovely intimate moment where we feel like we’re all invited to be in on the joke
The end of the show brings one final moment both outrageously silly and oddly
You’ll simply have to catch this wholly unique
Sarah Keyworth: Lost Boy
A development described as ‘monstrous’ when first submitted has been passed without a planning meeting after developers amended the plans
The land is at 2 Bunny Lane in Keyworth village centre
Applicant Bellco Developments wants to turn the former disused British Legion building and restaurant into a sustainable apartment block
and originally submitted plans to Rushcliffe Borough Council in January 2022
The plans were for a four-storey building like the image below
At the time of this first application – residents objected with one describing the building as ‘monstrous.’
a spokesperson for Bellco Estates said: “ 2 Bunny Lane is a huge opportunity for the village
we are keen to provide employment opportunities for the community
and we use an established design team with strong roots in the local area
“Keyworth has struggled for a while now when it comes to catering for all facets of the housing market
“While two bedroom detached starter homes are well placed to cater for couples
they often remain out of reach for those looking to live independently for the first time
“The accommodation element of 2 Bunny Lane will be suitable for single residents
including those with mobility issues that have not already been provided for by any of the other developments in the village.”
They added the building would also solve a shortage of space for independent shops and businesses in the area and will be a sustainable development featuring electrical charging points and carbon-neutral homes
After concerns were also raised about the design of the building
by a Rushcliffe Conservation Officer – new plans were submitted in September 2022 – these have now been passed
but without being discussed at a planning meeting
where councillors get to vote on proposals like this
are held if any ward councillor objects to them
and therefore the planning officers decide themselves
Out of 36 comments on the application by residents
One clarifies the position laid out earlier:
‘I see that this application is still pending a decision
The scheme is clearly a huge overdevelopment of the site with poor design which purports to be neither traditional nor contemporary
The scheme will result in a poor standard of accommodation for residents
lacks adequate parking and turning facilities and would remain a huge incongruous building on this prominent corner in the conservation area for the next century
‘Please be clear on the duty to preserve or enhance the conservation area under the P
LB & CA Act 1990 and the policies in the Local Plan
This scheme does neither and should be refused as many objectors already point out
‘I am most concerned that the Ward Members have failed to refer this matter to the Planning Committee in view of the level of local interest and opposition
‘If this building is approved under delegated powers these members will be held responsible at the elections
If the application is being held back until after May then this is not acceptable and would be a clear political manoeuvre having nothing to do with the planning decision-making process.’
‘This site is located in the conservation area of Keyworth and is a prime location in the centre of the village overlooking the church and should be developed sympathetically rather than with a commercial bias
‘The demolition and excavation of this site .is likely to cause disruption to the residents and local businesses because of the heavy equipment and lorries that will be required over a prolonged period of time
‘The excavation for the underground car park could undermine the integrity of the foundations of The Hall
which in turn could cause structural damage to the building itself
‘The Hall is an important building in the history of Keyworth and the conservation area
‘What precautions will be put in place to safeguard this building
‘The style; scale and intensity of the proposed development would not preserve the character and appearance within the conservation area
It is more in keeping with Nottingham City Centre or West Bridgford and is totally out of harmony with the village plan
The height; profile and massing is inappropriate for this site at the heart of the village conservation area
‘The Bunny Lane/Nottingham Road junction is already one of the busiest in Keyworth
it is the bus route towards Nottingham and there are often vehicles turning across the path of pedestrians
Any large machinery on the site and waste disposal lorries will undoubtedly cause interruption to traffic and make a busy corner even more dangerous
‘Delivery lorries/vans and removal lorries will find the loading bay pretty inconvenient as it is positioned at the exact opposite corner of the building to that of the lift access to the apartments
There are already parking pressures on the local roads so any additional parking (whether legal or illegal) could lead to these busy roads becoming
The plans have been passed with S106 conditions committing developers to contribute financially to the community
Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) is investing £4.1m in refurbishments and energy efficient upgrades over the next three years at Cotgrave Leisure Centre and Keyworth Leisure Centre
The refurbishment programme subject to planning approval will see the decarbonisation of the leisure centre in Cotgrave making it carbon neutral
followed by building repairs and upgrades to the site in Keyworth
RBC received £1.2m from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero’s Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme to help reduce the carbon emissions at Cotgrave Leisure Centre
The funding will enable the replacement of old boilers and outdated
inefficient heating and hot water systems with new modern
Heat pump units will use electricity from renewable sources to efficiently draw heat from the air and transfer it into the swimming pool and surrounding areas
resulting in 250% to 300% energy efficiency
The leisure centre will also welcome funding to undertake refurbishments which include:
The Changing Places toilet will be available to use by April 2024 and is courtesy of a £50,000 capital grant investment secured from the Department of Levelling Up
Following on from works at Cotgrave the team will move on to Keyworth Leisure Centre which will see essential repairs to the roof and a facelift of toilets
Leisure Energy has been appointed as principal contractors to deliver both schemes
with Henry Riley Consultants Limited providing the Council with project management and cost management services
There will be a period of design before starting the works late next year
Both centres will continue to be managed by our leisure operator Lex Leisure during the refurbishment programme
ICT and Member Development Cllr Jonathan Wheeler said: “We’re continuing to invest in our leisure centres across the Borough to enhance the quality of facilities for residents and further help reduce carbon emissions
“Having significantly invested in West Bridgford and Bingham leisure facilities recently
it’s exciting that we can welcome this further £4.1 funding and help the Council move closer to its zero-carbon agenda by making leisure centres more efficient to run
“The improvements are also an essential part of our continued effort to increase accessibility of our sports venues across the Borough.”
Leisure Energy’s Strategic Director Mike Worsnop added: “We are delighted to be working with Rushcliffe Borough Council on the decarbonisation and refurbishment projects at Cotgrave and Keyworth leisure centres to assist them with moving towards their net zero goals and maintaining the facilities for future generations
Managing Director for Parkwood Leisure Glen Hall said: "We are delighted that Rushcliffe Borough Council are investing in these significant improvements at both Cotgrave and Keyworth Leisure Centres
"We are committed to ensuring that these fantastic developments are maximised by all within the local community and we look forward to the completion of these works."
Henry Riley Executive Director Chris Donachie said: “We are delighted to have assisted with both Cost Consultancy and Project Management services on this project for Rushcliffe Borough Council
"We are proud that our team has helped achieve the best outcome for the refurbishment including further reductions in carbon emissions.”
is about rediscovering silliness after difficult life events
there is a lot of comedy if you look in the right places,” says standup Sarah Keyworth
We’re in a bar in central London on one of those sweltering summer days where everything feels a bit heavier than normal
in a graphic white tee tucked into navy cut-offs
the 29-year-old Nottingham standup’s third show
It debuts at Edinburgh fringe in August and explores “working out how to be silly and funny

Byrne’s death shook the British comedy scene, with tributes led by comic Ed Byrne
Keyworth remembers the director as “incredibly instrumental and influential in lots of people’s careers
a huge support for countless comedians” and is clearly in the midst of grief
“The show is about rediscovering silly and having to be a standup and be funny when you’re not feeling particularly funny
and the way in which grief turns you into a blob of a human being that has to just continue to exist in the world.”
whose first two Edinburgh sets explored gender
“It’s quite exciting to branch out and do a show that is just about who I am right now – what I’ve experienced
It’s still a show with all of those elements of me and who I am
but I don’t explicitly talk about gender and identity.”
Keyworth has clearly had a difficult couple of years
“Sometimes when you’re struggling on a day-to-day basis
that’s the thing that keeps you going back
and going: ‘I’m really excited to see how that plays out’
It feels really exciting to say something new and have people laugh.” Then

the crowd-pleasing east Midlander traces their relationship with their parents in a touching show
Now they identify as “an emotionally unstable non-binary person”
with a new show about their recent top surgery
The thoughtfulness is a constant – focused here not on Keyworth’s reasons for seeking surgery
and far less on wider perspectives on gender realignment
but on the more upbeat question of how that body alteration has been experienced by Keyworth and their close family
Amid the gags about the mild indignities of the pre-op process, the superficial benefits of breast removal, and Keyworth’s magically relocated nipples, two set-piece anecdotes about lesbian life prove crowd-pleasing too – even if they co-opt a few sexuality cliches to achieve the effect. A section teasing at the battered reputation of men, in dialogue with Keyworth’s audience, has a lower comic yield.

and opens a window on a compelling and more complex part of the story that is largely untold
Maybe I felt that only because this tale of major surgery is otherwise so conspicuously untroubled
which translates here into an engaging and touching one for audiences
At Soho theatre, London, until 9 March. Then touring until 1 December

in celebration of the Queen’s platinum jubilee
The walkway has been created as part of a project called the Queen’s Green Canopy
a nationwide campaign to encourage people to ‘plant a tree for the jubilee’
A special bench and plaque will be installed near the trees to mark the celebrations in honor of Queen Elizabeth II’s 70th year on the throne
The Japanese Amanogawa pink flowering cherry is well known for its beautiful and delicate flower display in May and June

Bus services through Rushcliffe will see big improvements thanks to a successful joint campaign by residents
Rushcliffe MP Ruth Edwards and local councillors
There have been problems with “The Keyworth”
Trent Barton’s bus route that links Keyworth
bus users have been experiencing an inconsistent service with buses arriving in quick succession
followed by long gaps as buses become “bunched up” along the route
The arrival times have also been different from the departure times shown on the timetable
This means that passengers are unable to make important appointments or schedule their daily lives
Local residents teamed up with Rushcliffe MP Ruth Edwards
county councillor John Cottee and Keyworth Parish Council to see if the issue could be fixed
Results from a survey sent by Ruth Edwards to residents in all three villages
highlighted multiple problems and widespread frustration with the service
77% of respondents reported they were ether dissatisfied or somewhat dissatisfied
90% of respondents said they wanted to see improvements in reliability
Along with County Councillor John Cottee and representatives of the Parish Council
met with Trent Barton CEO Tom Morgan to discuss the issues and find a solution
The meeting resulted in a 10 point action plan with short
A feasibility study into various infrastructure upgrades has been agreed with Nottinghamshire County Council
This will look into the possibility of putting the traffic lights where Main Road meets the A606 into a sequence that allows buses to move across this junction more quickly
as well as how adding a curb line to make sure buses are not hindered when pulling out into the A606
it was agreed to work together to appeal to National Highways to add bus priority measures to the Wheatcroft roundabout
as well as provide funds for a fifth bus along the route whilst upgrades are taking place
In the short term, it was agreed that the 60-minute loop journey time, from Keyworth to West Bridgford and back
would change to an 80-minute loop for a 12-month trial
This was a key part of a plan developed by residents and the Keyworth Parish council
a plan which Ruth and Cllr Cottee put their full weight behind
This will allow buses to spread out and stick more closely to the published timetable
the company agreed to make upgrades to signage and GPS systems so live times are given to passengers waiting at bus stops
This is all part of a long term transport strategy designed to ultimately create a faster public transport service to and from Nottingham
“A rural bus service which keeps to the published timetable is vital for people travelling to and from villages in Rushcliffe
I am pleased that Trent Barton have listened to our concerns and will be making these changes
for being ready and willing to engage and make amendments to their service
and Nottinghamshire County Council stick to the agreements that were made in the meeting
“I would also like to thank the parish council and Cllr John Cottee for working with me on this
we will continue to monitor these improvements and see if this improves the service.”
Parish Councillor Geoff Baker said “It’s great to see widespread public frustration channelled into a ten point action plan and so now the focus is on delivery
Massive thanks to all residents who attended the public meeting or filled out the survey and to the Keyworth Bus Users Group for their contribution and support.”

A community project delivering a series of free cook-and-eat sessions in Keyworth has received a boost from Reach Rushcliffe funding
The organisation is helping to tackle food insecurity and inclusivity and widen adults’ and children’s skills in easy and affordable ways to cook
Keyvolution from Keyworth Abundance is running 12 cook-and-eat sessions led by professional cooks to help increase people’s confidence in cooking seasonal fresh food and improve their skills in a relaxed and friendly setting
designed to help improve diets and reduce food waste
Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Reach Rushcliffe fund has provided a grant of £1,800 to support the project that will further reduce social isolation and loneliness bringing people together in dedicated kids and adult sessions
It includes teaching the groups basic techniques to make a cooked home meal from fresh ingredients with locally grown vegetables
The funding has helped to contribute to venue costs including water and electricity use
Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Transformation
Leisure and Wellbeing Cllr Jonathan Wheeler said: “Through our Reach Rushcliffe fund we’ve supported this fantastic project which aims to help people of all ages
backgrounds and abilities learn more how to cook
“It’s an excellent way to teach these vital skills no matter people’s age or background and address loneliness and social isolation at the same time by bringing people together to cook delicious recipes from scratch in an inclusive and friendly environment
“Thank you to Tracey and all the volunteers at Keyvolution for all their hard work and dedication to deliver these cooking classes for families and young people.”
Further sessions are set to take place at Keyworth Exchanging Rooms on Rectory Field in the village later this year:
Keyworth Community Garden organiser Amanda Ramsay will be delivering the classes and teaching further groups the skills
The community garden has also been supported by the initiative to help locals combat loneliness and social isolation by connecting people through nature and conservation work
Chair of Keyvolution Tracey Lloyd added: “We exist to help people make the best use of resources and we’re delighted to host a series of cook and eat sessions for both families and young people focused on using fresh fruit and veg
“We believe that helping parents to have the confidence to cook with their younger children is a good way to encourage preparation of healthy food
and especially helpful to young parents who might be feeling isolated at home
“It’s also important to help young people to develop cooking skills to help them gain enough skills to be able to cook for themselves
“Anyone is welcome to join our free cook and eat sessions
Booking is essential so I encourage you to secure your place on our upcoming classes
“Thank you to Rushcliffe Borough Council for helping to fund the cooking sessions and I’d also like to thank all the volunteers involved in running this important project.”
Review of the show inspired by the comic's surgery
A voluntary double mastectomy is undoubtedly one of the most drastic transformations anyone could make to their body
That someone could be so dissatisfied with what they see in the mirror that they turn to the surgeon’s knife is a difficult concept for most cis folk to comprehend
Avoiding the soul-searching ensures My Eyes Are Up Here is a show beaming with positivity for Keyworth’s gender journey
empowering for those on a similar path and heartwarming for everyone else.
The show rests on the comic’s relationship with their mother
disorganised teenager to a 30-year-old acknowledging they were raised with love and semi-reluctantly accepting that some of those parental diktats might actually have been sensible
That’s tied with the realisation that Mum might have had a more lively and interesting life than the stand-up ever credited
It’s that relationship that forms the heart of this show before the more obvious dramatic pivot regarding the top surgery
It takes several minutes for Keyworth to even mention that point
as if to let the audience process the news before returning to it in a little more depth
we get more straightforward jokes about a lesbian foursome or an amusingly vivid anecdote about the poor male lap dancer dispatched to perform to Keys and the rest of a non-binary hen/stag party (a ‘them do’ is apparently the term) in a grim caravan park.
Keyworth is an ‘emotionally unstable non-binary person’ thanks to their ADHD – though the ‘H’ is notably absent
Keyworth is nothing if not laid-back in their delivery of comedy
mild self-deprecation and the occasional delightful one-liner
Keyworth even tries to celebrate straight men – a demographic that’s usually comedy’s whipping boy
and not without just cause – all the in the spirit of drawing focus the best in humanity
Even if bigotry is in right now… it certainly drives that precious
social media traffic the comic’s way
Given how keenly relevant Keyworth’s story is
it often feels like there’s more to be mined in their story of gender dysphoria – ‘not a mental illness… any more’
the comic says they *think* they are non-binary… but they took a pretty bold move if this was just a hunch.
And late in the show it’s revealed that there’s a specific reason why the comic’s mum might have been against the top surgery
though it’s to her credit she didn’t let that stop her child doing what might make them happy.
While exploring these avenues would provide depth
it would come at the expense of the remarkably light touch Keyworth brings to their story
Sometimes it seems a bit too frivolous – a running gag about the comic morphing into their brother feels contrived
for example – but generally these experiences benefit from being told in such an endearing
human way far from the toxicity of social and old-school media
The result is a touching and affirming hour
