Since lockdown ended and leagues were able to resume
we have been delighted to welcome well over 2500 new teams to the Leisure Leagues UK network
The latest of these new competitions saw us kicking off in Kirby Muxloe this week
with almost 300 players getting a vital fitness fix at the wonderful
state of the art new pitches at Kirby Muxloe FC
Wonderful facilities and some fantastic games
It is the first time we’ve been to Kirby Muxloe and it is fantastic that the town has already taken us to their hearts in the way they have
We look forward to Monday nights becoming a real heartbeat for the town.”
There have been so many teams looking to join the league that Leisure Leagues used the first week as a so called “grading week” to make sure teams were all grouped against the right standard
A move that was vital according to Greg: “We want this league to be as accessible as possible for everyone,” he said
“And that means everyone has to enjoy it too
There’s nothing worse than teams who maybe haven’t played the game for ages struggling against really excellent players
This way we can keep it fair for everyone.”
Those high end players do have an extra incentive to impress
though as thanks to Leisure Leagues unique position as the driving force behind the ISF and the license holders for the Home Nations 6 a side teams means that the best players could find themselves playing in the World Cup next year
with Greg adding: “Millions watched the world cup in 2019
and it will be an incredible opportunity for our players from Kirby Muxloe to do something incredible
The league kicks off with the first round of games on Monday and you can still join for free here: https://www.leisureleagues.net/league/kirby-muxloe-fc/kirby-muxloe-monday
Network Rail is urging Kirby Muxloe residents to close level crossing gates after use
after a spate of incidents where the level crossing gates have been left open
which lies on the Leicester to Burton line
As the trains which run over this crossing are used to transport freight
they can run at any time of the day and night
level crossing manager at Network Rail said: “One of the problems we are experiencing at Kirby Muxloe level crossing is pedestrians and cyclists using the vehicle gates
and then failing to close them after they have crossed
“Pedestrians and cyclists are provided with a separate gate to vehicle users to keep users of the level crossing as safe as possible
“Failing to close crossing gates can allow animals to gain access to the line
It also means that children may wander onto the line
or drivers may wrongly assume that the level crossing is safe to cross
which could have tragic consequences.”
Network Rail is investing more than £100m to improve level crossing safety across Britain

More than 200 children picked up paintbrushes to praise Her Majesty the Queen
Two primary school pupils have been named as the winners of a Platinum Jubilee art competition - with a further 10 chosen as runners up.
Children were asked to paint a picture about what The Queen's Platinum Jubilee means to them
and more than 200 entries were received from schools throughout Leicester and Leicestershire
The key stage one category was won by Mason Harpin from Kirby Muxloe Primary school. The judges felt Mason created a fantastic painting using the Union flag colours of red
They loved the phrase ‘We love the Queen’ and were delighted by the amount of detail of the soldier and carriage
Niya Patel, from Krishna Avanti Primary School in Leicester
won the key stage two category.Niya’s beautiful painting was praised by the judges because it contained everything associated with the Queen
including the phrase ‘God Save The Queen’ and the colours red
The Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire Mike Kapur visited each primary school to present certificates and prizes to the winners
and the 10 runners-up will receive certificates from deputy lieutenants
I would like to thank all of the children and schools who took part in the competition
I was impressed and truly blown away by all of the incredible entries that we received – the children did a remarkable job with their paintings
It was difficult to choose two winners among so many great entries
but we think Mason and Niya illustrated the theme of ‘what the Platinum Jubilee means to you’ beautifully.”
Headteacher of Kirby Muxloe Primary School Elliot Howles
said: “The art competition was a wonderful opportunity for children to mark such a momentous point in our history.
“Celebrating 70 years of Queen Elizabeth’s reign is a unique occasion and we were absolutely thrilled that Mason was one of the winners of this special competition."Everyone at Kirby Muxloe Primary School is very proud of him”

through deeper understanding; we can gain access to cultural richness and diversity."The appreciation and enjoyment of the visual arts enriches all our lives.”

She was one of the best-known sisters of her congregation
and much loved by the people whom she served in a variety of apostolates
In 2008 her contribution to society was noted by the Queen who bestowed on her the MBE
In 2010 her contribution was noted by the Vatican
which gave her the highest honour available to a lay-person
the Holy Cross Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice (as previously reported on this website).Sister Teresa-Joseph joined the Corpus Christi Carmelites - a congregation of apostolic sisters affiliated to the Carmelite Order - in Trinidad at the age of 17
before returning to Trinidad to serve as Assistant Novice Mistress for three years. In 1973 she was sent to England
where she worked for ten years at the children's home run by the Corpus Christi Carmelites in Kirby Muxloe
When the home closed she did pastoral work in various parishes
serving as the Regional Superior for her religious congregation in England.Eventually Teresa-Joseph became involved in outreach to young people at Glen Parva
a Young Offenders' Institute near Leicester
For 20 years she loved working at Glen Parva
and she in turn was much loved by the young people she served
who - inspired by the film Sister Act - referred to her affectionately as "Sister Whoopi"
Sister Teresa-Joseph was greatly admired by inmates and staff at Glen Parva
who nominated her to received the MBE from the Queen in 2008
In the same year Sister Teresa-Joseph joined her congregation in celebrating its centenary
The Corpus Christi Carmelites were established in Leicester in 1908 and affiliated to the Carmelite Order in 1927.In 2009 - shortly after celebrating her Diamond Jubilee of religious profession - Sister Teresa-Joseph's health took a turn for the worse
She spent several months at the Corpus Christi Carmelite Community in York
Whilst in York she came to be known and loved by the various branches of the Carmelite Family in the city.A highlight for Sister Teresa-Joseph during her time in York was the visit of the relics of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux
she was delighted that the relics of the Carmelite saint nicknamed "The Little Flower" were brought to York Minster on that day.By the end of 2009 Sister Teresa-Joseph was preparing to return to the Corpus Christi Carmelite Community in Leicester
a diagnosis of cancer meant that she had to spend long periods in hospitals and a hospice
It was in hospital that in October 2010 Teresa-Joseph was presented with the Holy Cross Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice ("For the Church and the Pope")
a rarely-bestowed recognition of distinguished service to the Church.Sister Teresa-Joseph spent her final days in a nursing home just round the corner from her convent and parish church of St Thomas More
receiving many visitors and well-wishers.Speaking the day after Teresa-Joseph's death
the superior of the Corpus Christi Carmelites in York
said: "We are greatly saddened by Sister Teresa-Joseph's passing
and I am sure that there's a great party going on in Heaven
In many ways Teresa-Joseph's whole life was that of a missionary
She lived in various different places and cultures
but wherever she went she touched so many lives
and was particularly pleased to meet regularly with lay members of the Carmelite Order in York and in Leicester."Sister Teresa-Joseph's funeral will take place at St Thomas More parish church in Leicester
