Front Page Cray Wanderers Women – Kent FA Plate 4th Round – 19/1/25 – Match Report Larkfield                                          2 Cray Wanderers                              3 Please see here a match report from this afternoon’ cup tie kindly provided by Wands Assistant Manager On a bobbly pitch ,it was Cray who came up with the goods to push over the line and earn a last 8 place in this afternoon’s Kent Women’s FA plate fixture against Larkfield From the off both teams were trying to suss each other out with a bit of pinball passing from both sides but Cray calmed the possession and had the first real chance of the game 5 minutes in Okasia Brown’s long range effort well saved by Holly Bennett in the Larkfield goal Cray kicked on from that positive start and ten minutes in Ellie Rivers went on a darting run on the left hand side to win Cray a corner with Okasia Brown rising high and nodding in to get the goals going Larkfield wouldn’t be disheartened by this and 3 minutes after going a goal down, winger Charlie Goad had Larkfields first chance fizzing just over the bar Larkfield would get another chance at Samantha Sharp’s goal on the 20th minute a Cray free kick coming to nothing and being cleared long up the pitch for the in form Taylor Mannering to run on to but her shot was comfortably saved by Sharp However Larkfield continued to press forward and got the equaliser in the 22nd minute Webster giving away a foul on the left edge of the box and the resulting free kick being well placed in the far corner of Crays goal by Charlie Goad Cray would dominate the possession from here for the next ten minutes and created the majority of the chances with Atkins some just wide and some saved well by Bennett in goal Larkfield certainly didn’t seem daunted by playing higher opposition and continued to be dogged in the midfield winning a lot of the aerial battles and it would be Larkfield who would have the last chance of the half Larkfield started the second half stronger without creating much in terms of shots and with the game becoming more physical An injury to Ellie Hyner after a challenge in the 50th minute resulted in Crays first substitution It only took 2 minutes after coming on for Blanche to give Cray the lead with Webster passing to Blanche playing a 1-2 with Rivers cutting inside and firing a lob shot over Bennett Brown then produced another good save from Bennett Larkfield continued to fight for the game and produced a leveller on 56 minutes,Mannering getting her goal after a long ball over the top ,her 26th goal of the season to make it 2-2 Cray made some substitutions with Jessica Pooley brought on in the 56th minute and Emily Symonds and Chloe Ashdown on the 60th minute Cray then again had a strong period of play with more shots saved by Bennett until the winner came in the 80th minute, some good play in the middle by Symonds ,winning the ball and passing to Pooley’s feet her first touch rounding two defenders before sliding to tap the shot past Bennett,3-2 to the Wands Cray closed the game out ,bringing Dodds on for Cole for fresh legs in defence and with little to no chances by either side for the last ten minutes the final whistle was met with applause from Larkfields support who gave a good account of themselves and we wish them luck in their league campaign but a fair result in the end,the cup run                                 8 Larkfield & New Hythe                                  0 Cray Wanderers created a piece of history with a first win at Flamingo Park and also the club’s biggest ever FA Cup victory as the Wands put Larkfield & New Hythe to the sword by scoring eight goals without reply to advance to a home 2QR tie with Wingate & Finchley The Wands were looking to avoid a potential banana skin cup upset after a tough battle at Larkfield on Saturday which ended in a 1-1 draw but with Cray offered another chance to progress made no mistake after a sensational start with four goals in the opening 21 minutes through Frankie Raymond Tom Bonner and Kenny Coker (pictured) who also scored five minutes before half time to virtually end the tie Anthony Cook made it six nil ten minutes after half time and then ten minutes later Bonner claimed a second goal following a header from a corner The scoring was completed in the 78th minute through a Ross Ibbertson own goal The Wands were looking to claim the first competitive win at Flamingo Park and from the side which played on Saturday into the side came David Ijaha and Anthony Cook for Quade Taylor and David Smith Larkfield and New Hythe certainly had their chances in the opening game and made one change with Callum Emptage coming in for Nathan Daly If confidence was low coming into the game for Cray Wanderers then the team had the perfect start by taking the lead in the 3rd minute From a throw in down the right from Adrian Oweirdu-Gyamera the ball was held up well in the area by Imran Kayani and following up Frankie Raymond’s shot took a slight deflection to hit the back of the net for his second goal of the season Kenny Coker shortly after fired wide but in the 7th minute it was 2-0 when Anthony Cook’s cross was helped on by Kayani and fell to Nyren Clunis who hit a sweet volley from outside the area which crashed past Denny McConnell It got even better in the 12th minute when from a free kick down the left Raymond found Cook and his cross was met by an unmarked Tom Bonner to steer home a header from six yards Cray’s movement and passing was causing Larkfield and New Hythe plenty of problems and Kayani who had a great game up front crashed a shot against the crossbar and the ball was cleared That was a temporary reprieve as in the 21st minute Cray scored a fourth goal when Clunis played a ball through to Kenny Coker who hit a cracking shot high into the net for his first Cray Wanderers goal Luke Russell fired a free kick over the bar but Cray continued to push forward and from Owiredu-Gyamera’s cross the ball was flicked on to Charlie Edwards who shot wide Raymond’s ball into the box for Edwards was deflected over for a corner Another Wands goal was looking on the cards and Darion Dowrich was denied by a good save from McConnell who then followed this up with a diving stop to deny Kayani Then five minutes before half time it was 5-0 when Dowrich’s cross from the left fell to Clunis whose shot was saved by the legs of McConnell and from the rebound Coker with his right foot scored his second goal of the game and leave the match subject to an unlikely collapse virtually over at half time The second half saw Cray still with a level of control and Clunis saw a shot held and although Larkfield were exerting a little pressure the Wands were able to lift the game when they felt like it Anthony Cook made it 6-0 when he received a pass in midfield and heading down the left hit a unnerring shot from shy of 30 yards which arrowed in to the net past McConnell for his third goal of the season Ten minutes later Cray scored a seventh when from another excellent delivery from a Raymond corner down the right the ball fell to Bonner whose header was helped towards goal possibly by a defender or Quade Taylor but the Wands skipper claimed the goal With the lead comfortable changes were made with Arezki Hamouchene Alfie Evans and Lateef Adaja all coming on and when Larkfield looked to respond Matt Day received the ball inside the area but was crowded out by Owierdu-Gyamera Smith down the left of the area saw a shot well saved by McConnell and then Larkfield created their best chance of the game when Clark Woodcock’s cross down the right fell to Chilbueze Innocent whose shot hit the crossbar Adaja down the right saw a shot well saved by McConnell In the 78th minute Cray scored an eighth and this time it was an own goal after a short Raymond corner Arezki Hamouchene down the right put the ball across which was turned into his own net by Ross Ibbertson The Wands continued to search for more goals but in the end Cray had done a professional job and helped restore confidence going into a battle with Horsham in the Isthmian Premier on Saturday with a performance which delighted the fans and helped create a bit of history at the same time with the biggest FA Cup win and after losing their first two games at Flamingo Park are finally off the mark and had done so in style Larkfield & New Hythe: Denney McConnell THE installation of a new £76,000 playpark on vacant land in Larkfield is underway Work started on Monday 7 April 2025 and is due to last up to six weeks.  the Cumberland Road playpark will be an excellent addition to the many wonderful playparks we have in towns and villages across Inverclyde “It will be a welcome addition to the local community and especially for families to encourage “There is also the added benefit of bringing a vacant piece of land in the heart of the community back into productive use “I look forward to seeing the playpark when the installation is complete.” The playpark is being built next to local shops that were demolished a number of years ago.  The site is located at the rear of Aileymill Primary and the playpark surface will be purple as a nod to the school colours The land on which the castle is built was acquired by marriage in 1402 by a junior branch of the Maxwells by | Sep 1, 2024 | Match Day Reports Larkfield & New Hythe FC vs Cray Wanderers – FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round – Saturday 31st August – Match Report Larkfield & New Hythe FC                   1 Cray Wanderers                                     1 Cray Wanderers go into Monday’s FA Cup 2QR draw but had to settle for a Tuesday night replay at Flamingo Park following a 1-1 draw as SCEFL Premier Larkfield & New Hythe gave Isthmian Premier Wands a fright and it needed an Anthony Cook penalty for Cray to save the day after Bryan Zepo gave the Larks the lead This was a first time meeting between the sides and in front of a crowd of 301 on a blowy and chilly afternoon this was a traditional old school FA Cup tie with a competitive edge and although at times the game lacked quality there was plenty of endeavour and sweat expended from both sides Cray were looking to build confidence after four straight league defeats while Larkfield & New Hythe are unbeaten after just three league games and had reached the 1st QR for the first time although were beaten on penalties at Selsey in the FA Vase on Tuesday night new signing Imran Kayani began up front in place of Anthony Cook while Quade Taylor came in for David Ijaha Larkfield have started the season well and forced eight corners in the first half and in the opening minute a ball in the box had to be cleared away from goal by Tom Bonner Cray began to exert some early pressure and Kenny Coker cut inside from the left and his shot was held by Denny McConnell Nyren Clunis put over a terrific cross which was just flicked past the right post by Kayani The game was evenly poised but after a spell of passing David Smith and Frankie Raymond set up Kayani for a shot over the top there was a let off for Cray when down the left Alvin Turyatemba’s ball across was helped on and Temi Alaka put the ball in the net but was disallowed for offside Matt Day broke forward and his effort was pushed up in the air by Shaun Rowley In the 26th minute Cray came close when down the right Adrian Owiredu-Gyamera’s excellent cross was met by a firm header from Kayani but straight into the arms of McConnell the Larks were presented with a chance to take the lead with perhaps a harsh penalty as a ball played up to Alaka was deemed to be handled in the box by Darion Dowrich Day’s shot was well turned aside by Rowley and the ball was cleared for his second penalty save of the season Ross Ibbertsen’s ball into the area came to Day but Rowley did well to block the shot a Raymond free kick into the area just couldn’t get a firm connection from Tom Bonner and drifted behind Nathan Daly’s free kick from distance hit the side netting while for Cray David Smith’s shot lacked power and was gathered by McConnell The last action of the half saw Jay Wade find Alaka down the right and his ball across was deflected wide of the left post by Quade Taylor for a corner The second half began with Cray looking to impose themselves and from a free kick down the left Raymond’s dinked ball into the area was headed over by Nyren Clunis The game was starting to get rather bogged down and the quality of the game dropped considerably as the wind seemed to get stronger David Smith couldn’t quite get enough on a flicked header wide and Owiredu-Gyamera shot over from outside the area in the 68th minute Larkfield & New Hythe took the lead and the cup upset was on the cards The Larks forced a corner down the left and Turyatemba’s ball to the near post was headed in by Bryan Zepo The home side almost scored a second when Turyatemba went through but Owiredu-Gyamera did brilliantly to block and put behind for a corner Coker’s shot was deflected behind but in the 79th minute were awarded a penalty when down the left Clunis cut into the area and was clipped by Ibbertsen substitute Anthony Cook scored his second goal of the season to put the Wands on level terms The last ten/fifteen minutes saw both teams searching for the win but there were not too many chances with Cray maybe closest when Dontai Stewart saw an effort well blocked by Fraser Walker and a free kick from Arezki Hamouchene down the left was deflected off ex-Wand Ben Davisson and behind for a corner by | Aug 31, 2024 | Front Page A note for supporters that following this afternoon’s 1-1 draw at Larkfield & New Hythe in the FA Cup 1QR the match will now be replayed on Developers Obee Estates had recently purchased the site of the former golf club and agreed to also purchase the teams’ current ground for housing Mr Michel continued: “The football side of the new Oast Park is basically fully funded by the sale of the land at Larkfield and New Hythe “That funds the whole thing and the developers are building it for us “We really are desperate for training facilities We’ve had loads of games cancelled as we’ve got grass pitches at the moment and with the frost and the rain “The fact we’re going to have a fantastic sports club in this local area is an amazing thing.” Planning applications for both developments have officially been submitted to Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council (TMBC) In documents submitted to TMBC in December to build up to 50 affordable homes on the New Hythe Lane plot Obee Estates wrote: “This site has been the home ground for Larkfield and New Hythe Football Club since 1961 Larkfield FC has been promoted up by two divisions recently getting promoted to the SCEFL Premier Division in May 2024.” They added that the pitch is “prone to getting waterlogged” the specific designs of the homes will be decided through later applications but they write that “the buildings will feature a simple built form and appropriate detailing that complements the local vernacular” with one objector writing to the council: “This is ridiculous – adding 50 houses-worth of traffic to an overstretched area and through a children’s play park isn’t safe The wild area to the back of the football ground is a haven for animals and dogs on walks “The existing football ground could be knocked down and the park extended or turned into a nature reserve.” Alongside the bid for homes at the team’s current ground Obee put in a separate application for entirely new sporting facilities at the former Oast Park Golf Course in Snodland The 50-acre site used to be an 18-hole golf course until it was shut in 2017 and is only 1.2km from the football club’s current home The developers write: “The site is within the Kent Downs National Landscape (AONB) and is located within a low-lying part of the Medway Valley landscape area.” That application is for full permission for two new 3G football pitches a clubhouse and stands with capacity for 250 spectators outline permission is being sought for up to 150 homes to be sold at market rates a golf driving range and padel tennis courts one resident wrote to TMBC: “I object to any form of new housing estates within and around Snodland Too many developments in the area have been built or in planning yet no consideration is given to the roads “These extra developments will ultimately devalue our properties.” The village of Birling is next to the Oast Park development Birling Parish Council held an extraordinary meeting on Tuesday (February 4) and agreed to formally object writing: “While we recognise the potential benefits of the application concerning the sports facilities we have significant concerns regarding its impact on our community Mr Michel explained that the team won’t be relocating imminently until the new facility is basically ready we won’t be moving clubs have sold their ground without having anywhere to go but I’ve signed a contract with the developers where we don’t move at all until we can move into the new facility we get full planning for both sites by the end of this year then the new stadium is built first taking about six months “We’ll have at least until the end of that season playing at Larkfield and New Hythe and then hopefully we’ll be able to move to that new purpose-built stadium.” It is not yet known when TMBC’s planning committee will decide on the applications You can view and comment on the plans on TMBC’s website Join our new WhatsApp community!
