Larne manager Gary Haveron described the scenes as "really unsavoury" "It is not something you want to see at games," said Haveron "We pride ourselves on being a family club there are a lot of kids in the stand and that is not how you end the game of football but when someone comes on and attacks one of your team-mates it is only natural you are going to react to it and that Glentoran would react to that." It was a dream first league start for Kalum Thompson, who gave the champions the lead in the 31st minute before Andy Ryan levelled the game in the second half. The comeback was complete with two minutes left as Conor McKendry became the second substitute on the scoresheet when he rifled home the winner. The result means that the battle for second place, and automatic European qualification, will be decided on the final day next week when Larne host Glentoran. However, the Glens could move back into second position if they defeat Dungannon Swifts at Stangmore Park on Saturday. Image source, Stephen HamiltonImage caption, McKendry, as he did at Windsor Park in September, scored the winner for Larne against Linfield During a first half of few chances, Larne had a big opportunity to break the deadlock in the 14th minute when Ryan Nolan nodded Sean Graham's deep corner back for Shaun Want, whose header pinged off the crossbar. Linfield broke the deadlock with their first chance of the game when teenager Thompson fired home the rebound from Rhys Annett's shot, which had been palmed away by Rohan Ferguson. The home side had a huge opportunity to level just before the break. Stopper David Walsh came off his line to try thwart a Larne chance, but misjudged Tiarnan O'Connor's header. The loose ball then fell to O'Connor, with Sam Roscoe making a crucial clearance off the line to deny the striker. After the restart, Kieran Offord tried to give Linfield a more comfortable lead, but his shot was blocked by Cian Bolger before the striker sent a curling effort just wide shortly after. Walsh was then called into action to thwart O'Connor's strike after he had burst into the box. Larne levelled the game in the 79th minute when the unmarked Ryan fired home Cricky Gallagher's low delivery past the outstretched Walsh. Gary Haveron's side took the lead on 88 minutes when Linfield failed to clear Mark Randall's corner which eventually fell to McKendry, whose first-time finish found the top left-hand corner. Linfield continued to push for a leveller until the final whistle with the away fans shouting for a penalty when Offord fell under the challenge of Tomas Cosgrove, but the appeals were waved away. road closure from Monday 28 April 2025 until Friday 23 May 2025 however road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.  Subject to favourable weather conditions the works will be substantially complete by Friday 23 May 2025 Glentoran had to settle for a point this evening in an entertaining 2-2 draw with Larne in the Sports Direct Premiership at The BetMcLean Oval Joe Thomson scored twice against his former club either side of half-time however Larne hit back with goals from Paul O’Neill and a penalty from Andy Ryan to level the game Under dry but cold conditions in east Belfast it was the Glens that settled faster under the lights and fans only had to wait 11 minutes until their team made a breakthrough Full-back Ciaran Coll hurled a long throw into the Larne box that was only half-cleared by defender Shaun Want The ball was then met beautifully by the former Inver man Thomson who guided the ball into the net beyond goalkeeper Rohan Ferguson The hosts continued to dominate proceedings but were reminded that Larne are the reigning champions for nothing as they went close after 25 minutes Olatunde Bayode linked up neatly with Sean Graham down the left before the latter zipped in a dangerous cross into the area but it flashed past Ryan and O’Neill and away to safety Then on 35 minutes it looked like Thomson had grabbed his second of the evening but the midfielder failed to get a proper connection on the ball that had been put into him by winger Dylan Connolly With Larne growing into the game during the dying embers of the opening period Paul O’Neill did have the ball in the net after converting a Tomas Cosgrove cross but it was ruled out for offside as the Glens took a slender advantage into the sheds at half-time Declan Devine's men went further ahead just after the restart with Thomson not to be denied a second Dylan Connolly's deflected cross looped towards the edge of the area but the ball had enough weight behind it to creep into the bottom corner of Ferguson’s goal The visitors hit back just before the hour mark Graham's fierce drive was punched out by Daniel Gyollai and when Ryan's follow-up broke kindly for O'Neill the striker poked home to set up a grandstand finish The comeback was complete on 67 minutes when Aaron Wightman knocked over Graham inside the box leaving the referee with little choice but to point to the spot who sent Gyollai the wrong way to roll the ball into the bottom left-hand corner of the net as the spoils were shared Mar 9, 2025 | All News PAUL O’Neill’s early goal sealed a 1-0 win at Lakeview Park on Saturday O’Neill finished off some fine work from Tunde Bayode after just six minutes to score what turned out to be the only goal of the game The victory moves Larne into third place in the table ahead of Tuesday’s trip to the Ballymena Showgrounds COLERAINE host Larne in Premiership action as the post-split schedule continues this afternoon (KO 3pm)… Coleraine moved up to fourth in the Premiership table after a 3-2 success against Dungannon Swifts last weekend The Bannsiders had led 2-0 through goals from Jack Scott and Dean Jarvis but the Swifts hit back to level by the the hour mark Just when the game looked like it would end in a draw Jamie Glackin would have different ideas as his stunning 25-yard strike sailed beyond the dive of Declan Dunne and into the bottom corner Larne are currently four points clear of Coleraine in third and played out a 2-2 draw against Crusaders last time out The Inver Reds had the advantage at the break through Paul O’Neill’s strike but it was cancelled out through Philip Lowry’s close-range finish It would be a case of deja-vu thereafter as Larne’s lead was once again cancelled out as Shaun Want’s goal was followed-up by Stewart Nixon’s equaliser Coleraine and Larne would have to settle for a share of the spoils after a 1-1 draw on the Ballycastle Road in September The Bannsiders would make a bright start and threatened on several occasions as Matthew Shevlin Kyle McClelland and Connor Murray were all denied Just after Conor McKendry had a strike saved by Rory Brown Coleraine would hit the front from the spot through Shevlin after Sam Todd was adjudged to have handled inside the box Coleraine spurned a few chances to double the advantage as Larne drew level on 69 minutes with a penalty of their own when McKendry went down inside the area The resulting spot kick was dispatched by Andy Ryan Both teams created chances to win the contest as Benji Magee was thwarted by Brown Rhyss Campbell headed wide from Jack Scott’s cross Coleraine were edged out by Larne in a hard-fought Premiership encounter at Inver Park in November The hosts made the breakthrough just two minutes after the restart as Josh Seary’s cross found Paul O’Neill’s near post run and the striker converted beyond the reach of Max Little Coleraine levelled proceedings on 57 minutes as Lyndon Kane took centre stage The skipper rampaged forward and cut the ball back for Jamie Glackin to smash home his third goal of the season Larne’s advantage was restored as Conor McKendry’s strike from distance whistled into the back of the net as Coleraine lost out Dean Shiels’ men would leave Inver Park with a share of the spoils after a 1-1 draw in east Antrim Coleraine made a bright start and should have taken the lead inside the opening minute as Jamie Glackin smashed the crossbar from Kyle Spence’s cross Just after Paul O’Neill headed wide from an inviting position for the hosts the Bannsiders had the best two opportunities before the break as Connor Murray and Glackin both had sights at goal The breakthrough arrived on 75 minutes when a long ball forward sent Matthew Shevlin through on goal and he had the composure to round Rohan Ferguson and tap the ball into an empty net Larne ensured they would have a point to show for their efforts when a quick free-kick routine saw Andy Ryan bundle the ball in at the back post “I think we’ve got to keep the same belief in what we’re doing,” Shiels said in his pre-match press conference “We are trusting in our preparation…but we know they’ve got threats and good players “I felt the performance down at Larne recently was exceptional and we were really unlucky not to come away with three points that day We are isolating the games now and Larne are next and that’s the only one that matters “It’s about trying to find a way of getting the three points It might be different ways and we are winning games differently now “We are seeing big players popping up in big moments like Dylan Boyle vs Portadown Jamie Glackin vs Dungannon Swifts and Declan McManus at Glenavon.” The assistant referees are Stephen Bell and David Burns Christopher Morrison has been selected as the fourth official Chris Gray/Dave McNaughton & Hayley Currie have The Invermen's victory sees them move to within two points of second-placed Glentoran, who could restore their five-point cushion should they beat Glenavon in their game in hand over Gary Haveron's side on Wednesday evening. Defender Jordan McMullan fired the Sky Blues into an early lead with his second goal in successive games. Larne responded with a close-range strike from Tiarnan O'Connor before the break before Paul O'Neill fired the visitors in front in the second period. On a playing surface made difficult by a heavy pre-match rain shower, it was the home side who struck first in the eighth minute. Kian Corbally delivered a free kick from the left-hand side of Larne's penalty area and defender McMullan arrived unmarked to slide home a shot at the back post. The back-to-back league champions levelled on the half-hour when Jordan McEneff evaded a sliding tackle on the right hand side of the penalty area and delivered a low cross which O'Connor stretched to poke past Sean O'Neill from close range. Ballymena almost regained the lead virtually straight from the restart as Corbally burst into the penalty area but his shot cannoned to safety off the chest of keeper Rohan Ferguson, while Success Edogun's shot from an acute angle came back off the post. Larne introduced Andy Ryan at the interval and the Scottish striker almost took advantage of some hesitant Ballymena defending but keeper O'Neill was quickly off his line to block the effort. The visitors went in front on 73 minutes following a spell of pressure which culminated in McEneff's cross from the right falling to Olatunde Bayode. He completely mis-hit his shot but it fell into the path of Paul O'Neill who kept his cool to turn and fire past O'Neill. Ballymena thought they had forced an equaliser deep in injury time when Ben Kennedy fired home from close range following a corner but it was adjudged to be offside and the effort didn't count. with automatic European qualification up for grabs With one game remaining in the Sports Direct Premiership split fixtures the Glens must win to leapfrog Larne into second place and secure a direct route into the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers A draw or defeat would see the East Belfast side face the lottery of the European play-offs and the uncertainty of two additional games to secure their European ambitions Declan Devine said: “We can’t have any regrets come Saturday evening We’ve got 90 minutes to show what we’re about and we’ve got to give absolutely everything to come away from Inver Park with the three points and secure our place in Europe “We’ve worked incredibly hard to reach this point and now it all comes down to one game - a straight shootout between ourselves and Larne but we were always coming here with the mentality to win “We know how tough it’s going to be as Larne are a quality side But every single player and member of staff has to step up We need to be at our best and we need the belief and desire to give everything for the badge The Glens head to Inver Park determined to respond after last weekend’s 3-2 defeat away to Dungannon Swifts Top scorer Jordan Jenkins struck twice to take his tally to 18 in all competitions but a late goal from Tomas Galvin handed the hosts the points Devine believes his squad has shown the right reaction in training this week and is fully focused on finishing the season against Larne with European football to look forward to next term Devine said: “Last weekend was a setback and there’s no hiding from that We didn’t reach the standards we expect of ourselves But this week has been about how we respond and what I’ve seen in training has been everything I hoped for: energy intensity and a real determination to put things right There’s been a real edge to everything we’ve done over the past few days discipline and stepping up when it matters “We’ve also spoken about the fans - because they’re a huge part of this travelled all over the country and supported this club with real pride and passion The players are determined to finish the season on a high and secure European football for this club and for the supporters who’ve been with us every step of the way.” Saturday’s clash will be the fifth meeting between the sides this season and the fourth in the league Larne have had the better of the Premiership encounters so far recording 2-0 wins at Inver Park in September and The BetMcLean Oval in November lifted the County Antrim Shield after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over the Inver Reds at Seaview in January The most recent league meeting was a thrilling 2-2 draw at The BetMcLean Oval in March that underlines just how little separates these sides and how fine the margins will be once again this weekend Declan said: “Larne are a top side and they’ll back themselves to get over the line well-organised and clinical when it counts But so are we and we’ve shown we can go toe-to-toe with anyone in this league It’s set up to be a really intriguing contest  both with something massive to play for but we’re heading to Inver Park fully focused on getting the result we need and making sure this club is back in Europe where it belongs “And we’ll need our supporters with us every step of the way The away end is sold out and we know how much of a lift they give this team We want to give them something to shout about and we’ll be giving everything to make that happen The away end for Glentoran supporters is now completely sold out No additional away tickets will be made available to Glentoran fans Back-to-back champions Larne move up to fifth in the table with win; Loughgall remain nine points adrift at bottom Shaun Want headed Larne in front in 14th minute Tiarnan O'Connor doubled lead three minutes later Kirk McLaughlin pulled goal back for Villagers Paul O'Neill restored Larne's two-goal lead five minutes after half-time All over at Lakeview Park where defending league champions Larne move into the top half of the table following a comprehensive win over Loughgall Shaun Want headed them in front from a Sean Graham corner after just 14 minutes and three minutes later Tiarnan O'Connor doubled the visitors' lead from another Graham delivery Kirk McLaughlin pulled a goal back with a clever finish on the half hour but Paul O'Neill's deft lob five minutes after the restart restored Larne's two goal advantage There was just enough time for top scorer Andy Ryan to bag his eighth league goal of the campaign in an impressive display from Gary Haveron's side 132Shareclose panelShare pageCopy linkAbout sharingWatch: Ryan makes it fourpublished at 21:41 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February21:41 GMT 26 FebruaryLoughgall 1-4 Larne Andy Ryan puts the gloss on the scoreline for Larne at Lakeview Park Watch: Ryan seals the win for Larne at Lakeview Park 90Shareclose panelShare pageCopy linkAbout sharingSUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:36 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February21:36 GMT 26 FebruaryLoughgall 1-4 Larne wins a corner following a forceful run down the right 40Shareclose panelShare pageCopy linkAbout sharingPostpublished at 21:35 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February21:35 GMT 26 FebruaryLoughgall 1-4 Larne We're into the first of three additional minutes at a quickly emptying Lakeview Park 50Shareclose panelShare pageCopy linkAbout sharingGOAL - The visitors started on the front foot and were rewarded with two goals inside the opening quarter. The first arrived after 14 minutes when the home defence failed to deal with an inswinging Sean Graham corner and Want had the simple task of heading home from six yards out. Three minutes later it was 2-0 and it was a similar story for the struggling hosts. Another Graham corner was met with more hesitant Loughgall defending and this time Tiarnan O'Connor profited, bundling the ball over the goal line for his third goal since making the move from Harland & Wolff Welders in January. But back came the home side with a goal of their own from a corner as Kirk McLaughlin cleverly redirected Pablo Andrade's shot from distance past Rohan Ferguson following Conor McCloskey's restart. Larne restored their two-goal advantage five minutes after the restart as Paul O'Neill latched on to an O'Connor flick to calmly lob the ball over advancing Loughgall keeper Nathan Gartside. And leading goalscorer Andy Ryan put the seal on a good night's work for the away side in the closing minutes when he slipped the ball under Gartside for his eighth league goal of the season. becoming the club’s General Manager a year later More recently Niall transitioned into the role as Chief Executive Officer as he headed up a growing operation at the club He has moved on to take up a role outside the club Kenny Bruce has paid tribute to the work Niall carried out at Inver Park He said: “Niall has been an outstanding steward of our club for over seven years “From the moment I first met him with Gareth Clements at the Curran Court in July 2018 I knew he would play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Larne Football Club he has led the club with unwavering dedication and commitment and I cannot thank him enough for everything he has given to Larne FC during that time success naturally brings new opportunities and while we are sad to see Niall step away from his day-to-day role we are absolutely delighted to see him take on an exciting new challenge “He leaves with our full blessing and support and it speaks volumes of his passion for Larne FC that he remains on the Board of Directors continuing to drive forward many of the objectives he has helped shape “Niall’s stamp is firmly imprinted on the club’s journey so far and I have no doubt his influence will continue to be seen in many of our future achievements.” As he moves to take up the new voluntary role with the club Niall has also been reflecting on his time as an employee “I’ve always said that I was in a privileged position to sit in a senior position at the club and reflecting on the last 5 ½ years with my family I realise just how privileged I have been,” he said “I’ve been supported by tremendous staff (operational and football) and an army of volunteers from across our club I’m so grateful for the support that they have given me “It’s my time to give something back and I’m delighted to be able to stay involved as a non-exec director taking my seat beside our loyal board members and ownership group I will stay active and support people the same way in which I have been supported throughout and I feel I still have the energy and the passion to continue to have a positive influence on the club “I will be forever grateful to Kenny and Gareth who brought me into the club 7 ½ years ago as academy director “They gave me an opportunity and they backed me  We have enjoyed a special period for the club and the town I spoke to Kenny more than I speak to my wife “I must
