Partick Thistle defeated Livingston 1-0 on a night filled with tension and nerves in West Lothian that ensured our season continues. It was all or nothing for both sides at the Home of the Set Fare Arena with Thistle knowing that a result equal or better than Raith Rovers would see them secure the final play-off spot ahead of Tuesday’s first leg. For Livingston, it was more Fast Car Friday than Helicopter Sunday as the Championship trophy sat equidistant between Falkirk and Livingston awaiting a winner. A win for Falkirk would seal the title, but any slip up would allow Livingston to clinch the league from under their noses. Stuart Bannigan missed out through suspension after picking up a red card in the 2-1 win over Falkirk, whilst Josh Reid and Logan Chalmers were injured, with Kyle Turner and Ben Stanway coming into the XI instead. It was a lively start with both teams going for it from the first whistle, eager to lay a marker down in their respective battles. Livingston had the better of the early going, with chances created in and around the box. The pressure was cranked up with the news that Hamilton had taken the lead on seven minutes at the Falkirk Stadium. It could have been a magnificent seventh minute for the hosts as Robbie Muirhead raced clear however the legs of David Mitchell came to Thistle’s recue. Despite openings for Robbie Fraser, Stephen Kelly and Cristian Montaño, Thistle’s back line remained resolute, soaking up the pressure and standing firm. The complexion of the night then took a complete u-turn on the 37th minute, with developments at both ends of the title race. An equaliser for Falkirk against Hamilton was punctuated by Thistle opening the scoring against the run of play. A lovely three-man-move from Aidan Fitzpatrick, Ben Stanway and Kanayo Megwa saw Megwa find space on the right. He fired a pass across the box, only for Macaulay Tait to get in the way, inadvertently sending the ball into the Livingston net for an own goal. Livingston tried to respond immediately, with Stephen Kelly firing off a shot moments after kick off. Luckily for the Jags, the effort clattered off the bar, ensuring we remained one to the good going into the break. Half Time – Livingston 0 Partick Thistle 1 Thistle suffered an early setback three minutes into the second half when Sean Kelly went down holding his hamstring. Kelly was replaced by Stevie Lawless, who deputised in Fitzpatrick’s role as Fitzpatrick moved to left wing back. By the hour mark, Thistle had more bodies down than the Royal Rumble with Brian Graham and Robbie Crawford also requiring treatment from the physio, with Crawford eventually coming off himself, replaced by Zander MacKenzie. Thistle were under the cosh as an increasingly more desperate Livingston threw everything at them in search of a goal. Over at Hampden, Raith Rovers were now 3-1 up on an under strength QP side, leaving Thistle looking over their shoulder as their goal difference advantage was eroded away. The Jags were penned into their own box and in serious danger, but the back three of Ashcroft, O’Reilly and McBeth were able to clear their way out of multiple risky situations as the tension continued to rise. Not even a third Falkirk goal to all but seal the league title could convince Livingston to take their foot off the gas. They continued to threaten Mitchell in the Thistle goal as news filtered through that Raith Rovers had now stretched their lead over QP to 5-1. Another injury, this time to Fitzpatrick, saw Ablade thrown on as a makeshift left wing back. It was backs to the wall, with Thistle knowing that one goal for Livi and one goal for Raith would sink their play-off hopes. A brilliant save from Mitchell from a Stevie May shot kept us in the lead, as Thistle braved seven additional minutes of injury time following the downtime earlier in the half. Livi were determined to spoil Thistle’s party, but The Jags made it through seven minutes of injury time to survive The West Lothian Alamo and confirm their place in the promotion playoffs. Full Time – Livingston 0 Partick Thistle 1 There’s no time to rest for the Jags, who will now host Ayr at the Wyre Stadium at Firhill on Tuesday night in Quarter Final First Leg action, with the Second Leg three days later at Somerset Park. Damage was also caused to the entranceway of Inverness’s Kart Raceway, which has since re-opened. Ventham appeared from custody after his arrest and did not apply for bail when his case called before Sheriff Gary Aitken today. Ventham made no plea and was committed for further examination. He is accused of resetting a 2018 grey Range Rover Evoque that was dishonestly appropriated by unknown means on February 24 this year from Cresswell Street, Glasgow. He is also accused of wilfully setting first to the Scottish Premium Seafood unit at the business park while acting in the company of another person. The charge states he reversed a vehicle into the premises and thereafter, by means unknown, set fire to the vehicle and unit. Ventham will next appear in court within eight days and bail may be considered. Despite an arrest being made, further enquiries are being made into the incident. Detective Inspector Caroline MacKay, of Police Scotland, said: “As the investigation into this fire continues, we would like to thank the local community for their co-operation and support while we carry out our enquiries.” Six fire crews were sent to the scene and battled the “well-developed” fire for hours. © Aberdeen Journals Ltd 2025. It was an own goal by Heart of Midlothian loanee midfielder Macaulay Tait that gave the Jags the deciding goal seven minutes before half-time. There was a nervousness emanating from the stands with a lot at stake for both sets of supporters and that was definitely finding its way on to the pitch. As early as the third minute, player-manager Brian Graham was gifted a chance to give Thistle the lead but blasted over from 12 yards with the goal gaping. At the other end, Robbie Muirhead was clean through on goal after a terrific flick-on by Cristian Montano, but goalkeeper David Mitchell stuck out his left boot to deny the Livingston striker. The home side continued to dominate but were hit by a sucker-punch seven minutes before the break. Kanayo Megwa fired a cross into the Livingston box that Tait attempted to clear but could only knock the ball beyond his own goalkeeper high into the net. Livingston kept driving forward and Stephen Kelly's effort rebounded off the underside of the crossbar and clear. As news filtered through of Falkirk leading Hamilton Accies, the home fans' hopes of a title party were becoming slim. However, the team kept pushing forward and Lewis Smith had a goalbound effort blocked by McBeth as they laid siege on the Thistle goal. Thistle now face Ayr United on Tuesday at Firhill, with the second leg of their quarter-final a week later at Somerset Park. Livingston await the winners for the right to face whoever finishes in second bottom spot in the Premiership for a place in next season's top flight. Watch how Falkirk sealed promotion on dramatic night Livingston manager David Martindale: "The result really is irrelevant at this point, because Falkirk went and done the business and we've got to be man enough to congratulate Falkirk. They're up there for a reason, so I take my hat off to them. "We had something like 70% possession. They get the goal from an OG. Wee Mac's [Macaulay Tait] unfortunate with the clearance. "We've had two or three really good opportunities to get something from the game. The majority game is played in Partick's half. They're holding on for top four at that point. I thought the boys were a wee bit unlucky." Partick Thistle player-manager Brian Graham: "In the last two weeks the team as a whole, the coaching staff, everybody was in it together. The fans were absolutely superb tonight. "And we said to the boys before the game that it's up to us whether the league finishes tonight or it carries on. And, for us, it carries on. "We got the three points we were looking for - we couldn't come here hoping for a draw. I said that to everybody all week, 'we cannot come here and hope for a draw and think that will be enough'. We got the three points and now it's about recovering and going again Tuesday night." Livingston swept aside fellow promotion-chasers Ayr United to secure second place in the Scottish Championship and ensure Falkirk have to wait to try to seal the title. David Martindale's side had to win to deny Falkirk the chance to win the league - and promotion - on Saturday and blew Ayr away in the first half in particular. Stephen Kelly's deflected strike on six minutes gave them the lead, and Robbie Muirhead's penalty after goalkeeper Harry Stone fouled Cristian Montano put them in firm control. Kelly drilled in his second and Livingston's third before the break to effectively seal an important three points, before Montano rolled in the fourth late on. Reece McAlear capped a dominant performance with a precise volley from the edge of the box as Livingston made a statement ahead of potential play-off rematch. If Falkirk defeat Raith Rovers on Saturday they would have one hand on the trophy given John McGlynn's side would be six points clear of Livingston with two games left, and a goal difference advantage of at least 15. But at the very least Livingston now know if they end up in the play-offs they will play one fewer round after sealing second spot, and are poised to take advantage if Falkirk slip up in the title race. Scott Brown's Ayr will finish third in the league and face either Partick Thistle, Raith Rovers or outsiders Morton over two legs in the play-off quarter finals. Livingston manager David Martindale: "I thought first half was a really good performance and we scored really good goals. Second half, we managed the game and hit them on the counter. "You don't read too much into it. It's a good performance and three points, but we've still got a lot to do. If Falkirk stumble, they stumble, but it's Falkirk's to lose." and that would be Rovers the only way Thistle could draw and still remain fourth is if they somehow managed to score more than Rovers on the night In the admittedly highly unlikely event that Thistle and Rovers do finish level on points goal difference and goals scored then it would come down to the points tally in the four matches between the sides over the course of this season That would result in Rovers finishing fourth in the table as they have amassed eight compared to two for Partick Thistle We are getting into the minutiae of extreme improbabilities now but in the notoriously unpredictable Championship confirmed after their appeal was dismissed on Thursday has drawn the sting from the relegation battle Accies are in a malaise and League 1 is their destiny after a 15-point deduction left them eight points adrift at the bottom when they would have otherwise been safe in seventh place Second-bottom Airdrieonians – who had looked doomed for the majority of this season until a run of only four defeats in 16 since the turn of the year – will have a second chance at Championship life next season if they manage to see off their play-off adversaries from League 1 Alloa Athletic and Stenhousemuir all with the potential to finish fourth in the third tier and face the Diamonds in the semi-finals going into their final games on Saturday Two goals in the space of six first-half minutes from Cristian Montano and Scott Pittman put David Martindale's side two up at Cappielow. A well-taken free-kick from Ali Crawford halved Livingston's advantage, but the West Lothian visitors held on to secure a vital three points. Only three games remain for Livingston to catch leaders Falkirk, but the win at least consolidates their hold on second place as the play-offs near. Morton, who had a late Jordan Davies leveller ruled out for offside, remain sixth. Scot Foam Stadium at Dens Park Saints took the lead on 40 minutes when Makenzie Kirk sent a fine looping header beyond Trevor Carson and into the net Dundee made a quick response three minutes later as they levelled the match when Simon Murray headed home from close range Dundee came close to finding a winner during the second half as Scott Tiffoney hit the woodwork whilst Andy Fisher produced a fine save in stoppage time tipping over a Lyall Cameron strike from 20 yards Livingston's last match was against Partick Thistle in the Scottish Championship A Robbie Muirhead header ensured Livi picked up a point after Brian Graham had given the hosts the lead Livingston are back in action on Wednesday evening when they take on Raith Rovers Our under-18s were defeated by Livingston in the Club Academy Scotland Performance League on Friday evening The McDiarmid Park astroturf was the venue for the contest with the visitors ending up comfortable winners but the first fell to Saints after just four minutes Striker Jacob Fleming latched on to a ball inside the penalty area but his shot was blocked behind for a corner from an acute angle Livingston would then break the deadlock on 15 minutes and it was a fine finish to open the scoring Steven Kerr pounced on a loose ball just outside the penalty box before unleashing a powerful strike high into the net Livi then doubled their lead on 39 minutes when Tommy North bulleted home a header from a corner Saints had a big chance to pull one back just before the half was out when Murray Binnie turned a shot wide of target following a pinpoint Jamie Cord cross who would have been aiming to start strong Livingston striker Gabriel Erhabor produced a looping strike over goalkeeper Kyle Thomson to add a third just one minute into the second half Saints managed to grab a goal back quickly and it was well worked one by striker Murray Binnie The front man secured possession inside the box turned his defender and fired low into the bottom corner Ultimately the strike was not enough to edge Saints back into the contest with Livi adding two further goals in the remaining half hour of the match Dylan Mauchin firstly prodded home from close range before Lucas Towill curled home with ten minutes remaining Provisional Results Long before they hit the road and the miles to the Olympics Megan Keith and Callum Hawkins featured in the National Road Relays They were back at Livingston on Saturday and Freya Ross made it no fewer than three Olympians racing at the well-known venue based at St Margaret’s Academy With Paralympic T20 1500 champion Ben Sandilands on the opening leg for Fife AC and GB and NI 100k internationals Chris Richardson and Dougie Selman in action as well it certainly felt like there were top athletes everywhere you looked The atmosphere at this event always feels like a great gathering of our clubs and the competition at all three age groups in the two races is intense on an annual basis So it proved once again in 2025 and as the stories unfolded both Megan and Callum duly anchored their lifelong clubs  to gold medals – each at the sharp end of fine team efforts by Inverness Harriers women and Kilbarchan AAC men It was a very first title win in this event for Inverness in the Senior Women’s category They did so with a quartet that featured an Olympian a mum who featured in their only previous medal-winning  team in 2015 in Jenny Bannerman Megan thus raced for the first time since that memorable 10,000m final at the Olympics where she carried an injury for 25 laps before being enveloped in the embrace of Eilish McColgan ‘I heard whispers that there might be an Inverness team being put together for this event and my coach (Ross Cairns) and I felt it might be a good place to come back and get the race shoes on again,’ said Megan ‘I’ve had a lot of rehab since the Olympics and I’ve had a lot of support around me It was a tough night in Paris and it was good to have Eilish waiting at the end to support me ‘Today there was a gap on leaders Edinburgh when I set off but I could see Kirsty Walker up ahead for most of the race I just kept trying to chip away at the lead ‘It’s nice to wear the club vest and it is a special day for us as a team to be National Road Relay gold medallists.’ leaders for so much of the race after Beth Ansell‘s fast first leg ultimately had to settle for silver medals and there were bronzes for Central AC there was a win for Garscube Harriers thanks to the efforts of Gill Blee Greenock Glenpark took silvers and host club Lothian Running Club won the bronzes there was a win for Giffnock North AC from Edinburgh AC and Kirkintilloch Olympians Giffnock’s winning team was Hilary Carswell Kilbarchan strike gold in Livingston (2014 report) The Olympian theme extended to the Men’s race when Callum Hawkins closed off a superb team effort by Kilbarchan It was a special moment as they repeated their 2014 victory in a week when club legend Arthur Smith was laid to rest The team dedicated the win to Arthur’s memory Landing those gold medals were Jack Patton Kilbarchan clocked 2:14.27 to Central’s 2:14.33 with Callum at 28:36 for the long leg last lap Central AC took the silvers this time (after three in a row) and Cambuslang Harriers came through in third place (after strong effort by Fife AC) ‘I have a 100 percent record here,’ grinned Callum who won by just six seconds in the end after fighting to catch Central AC’s sixth runner Hamish Hickey ”I was in a winning team with Kilbarchan back in 2014 but I am the only one still in this (younger) team now ‘I’m not sure what the deficit was but by halfway I had closed it by 35 seconds I probably caught Central AC on the gravel with about a mile to go and thankfully had enough left coming up the hill and into the finish ‘It was good to wear the club vest again and I hope to do that on future occasions Corstorphine AAC are strong in this event in the Masters and M50 races and won the golds in the M40 category Edinburgh AC were second and Cambuslang Harriers were third the same three clubs shared the medals with the win this time for Cambuslang Harriers from Corstorphine AAC and Edinburgh AC Cambuslang’s winning team was Chris Upson The two V50 sets of medallists at Livingston Graham Carey scored a stunning strike from 30 yards as Saints defeated Livingston 1-0 to book a place in the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup semi-finals this evening The hosts had chances to take the lead during the first half however Andy Fisher made two brilliant saves to firstly deny Andrew Shinnie and then Danny Wilson Adama Sidibeh had the ball in the net for Saints on 20 minutes however it was chalked off as the Gambian had been offside The only goal of the game came on 73 minutes as Carey tried his luck from distance slotting home an unbelieve strike from 30 yards that went in off the crossbar Livi pressed late on for an equaliser however Saints superbly saw the game out to book a return trip to Hampden Park to take on the reigning cup holders Saints are back in action on Saturday as they welcome Aberdeen to McDiarmid Park Saints headed to West Lothian this evening to take on Livingston in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup Simo Valakari made one change to the Saints starting eleven which drew 1-1 at Dundee nine days ago as Drey Wright dropped to the bench and he was replaced by Jonathan Svedberg Livingston battled out a goalless draw with Raith Rovers last Wednesday evening and manager David Martindale made two changes to the Livingston starting eleven for tonight’s cup tie at the Home of the Set Fare Arena as Tete Yengi and Andrew Shinnie came in to replace Robbie Fraser whilst Stevie May couldn’t feature as he is on-loan from Saints It was a chilly evening as Andrew Shinnie got the match underway for the hosts The first chance of the match came on 2 minutes as Stephen Duke-McKenna burst down the left channel before sending over a cross into the box The ball took an awkward bounce which prevented Jason Holt from making a clean connection with the ball as it was gathered by Livi keeper Jérôme Prior The first booking of the game came on 5 minutes as Duke-McKenna was shown a yellow card for catching Jamie Brandon From the resultant free kick Robbie Muirhead’s delivery picked out Andrew Shinnie who nodded the ball goalwards however Andy Fisher clawed the ball away with a strong left-hand The chances kept on coming for the hosts as on 13 minutes Macaulay Tait won possession from Sven Sprangler in midfield as he played in Shinnie however Then 3 minutes later a long-throw from Muirhead was met by Danny Wilson and his header looked destined for the back of the net however Fisher produced another strong save to claw the ball away PHOTO: Adama Sidibeh shrugs off Christian Montaño Livingston created another chance to break the deadlock on 19 minutes as a Stephen Kelly’s corner from the left was met by Ryan McGowan however the former Saints defender put his header wide of the target Saints thought they had taken the lead on 20 minutes as Sam Curtis curled the ball into the path of Adama Sidibeh who slotted it home from six yards however the celebrations were short lived as the goal was chalked off as the Gambian had been in an offside position On 26 minutes neat footwork from Tete Yengi played in Muirhead however The pressure on the Saints goal continued and a minute later Scott Pittman saw his strike go inches over the crossbar With 10 minutes of the first half remaining a Shinnie cross from the right was met by Muirhead however the forward put his header wide of the far post PHOTO: Adama Sidibeh scores but is chalked off for offside Saints made a change before the second half got underway as Drey Wright came on to replace Stephen Duke-McKenna On 54 minutes Svedberg won Saints a free kick just inside the Livi half It was taken by Wright and his curling delivery into the box was flicked on by Daniels Balodis before Kirk’s header was saved by Prior 3 minutes later the home side created a chance of their own as Yengi burst to the bye-line before seeing his cross into the Saints box headed behind for a corner by Barry Douglas Then on 66 minutes Yengi was involved in the thick of the action again the midfielder put his effort over from 18 yards Saints made another change on 69 minutes as Graham Carey came on to replace Jonathan Svedberg A minute later Saints were awarded a free kick after Wright was fouled by Scott Pittman Carey took the free kick and his delivery into the box picked out Balodis however he couldn’t get his effort on target The breakthrough finally came on 73 minutes and what a goal it was Carey played in Wright down the left channel and the versatile winger’s ball into the box was cut out by Wilson The ball then broke to Carey and he took a touch before unleashing an unbelieve rocket from 30 yards which flew into the top corner of the net off the underside of the crossbar Now with the goal advantage Saints had chances to end the game as a contest With 10 minutes remaining Wright’s cross into the Livi box was met by Sidibeh however Then on 81 minutes Carey picked out Jason Holt but the midfielder couldn’t test Prior with his effort Shortly after a cutback from Holt was met by Wright however The hosts made several changes in the closing stages as they looked to get the goal to take the match to extra time however There was 3 minutes added on at the end and in the first minute of added on time Saints came close to doubling their lead as Carey played in Kirk however Despite some late pressure Saints comfortably dealt with it to see the game out and book a return trip to Hampden Park for a semi-final match This was a third Livi victory over Falkirk this season and reduces the gap at the top to eight points. Falkirk have five matches remaining, while the West Lothian side have a game in hand. There was little quality in a tense game with the battle for control taking place in a congested midfield area. But the deadlock was broken when a free-kick by Stephen Kelly was tipped onto the crossbar by Falkirk keeper Nicky Hogarth and Shinnie pounced to nod the ball home. The win takes David Martindale's side three points clear of Ayr United in third place. Livingston manager David Martindale: "We've taken 10 points off Falkirk and we're sitting second in the league, so that's frustrating. "They've scored one goal against us in four games and it was a penalty. "I'm not saying we should be there because Falkirk have been very consistent. Us winning the league is not in our hands. Second is within our grasp and that's what we have to focus on. "I think the chances of getting into Premiership next season if you do finish second are very probable. "We've grown as a team this season and there's more to come from this group." Falkirk manager John McGlynn: "It's a sore one to take. It had 0-0 written all over it. "There weren't many chances kicking about for either team. The stats were very even. "We're in a great position but obviously we came here to strengthen that. The substitute winger had only been on the pitch for a matter of minutes when he sensationally let rip from distance to deliver the sole goal of the game. "I see it every day in training," Valakari told BBC Scotland. "What a player. "He's got an extra special left foot. Beautiful - and we needed some magic tonight. Big credit to Livingston, they put us under pressure." Indeed they did, as the Premiership side had been dominated by their Championship hosts, who will be left rueing a number of first-half chances they failed to convert. David Martindale revealed post-match too that referee Don Robertson apologised for not awarding the hosts what the manager called "a stonewall penalty" when Andrew Shinnie was caught in the face by Daniels Balodis. Celtic face St Johnstone as Hearts take on Aberdeen in semis Celtic's Salah, the new Skacel & nifty Nisbet Saints goalkeeper Andy Fisher also produced a string of superb saves to deny a Livingston side searching for their first Scottish Cup final-four appearance in 21 years. Although on the back foot for the first 45 minutes, Adama Sidibeh had the ball in the back of the net after a rapid counter, but it was hauled back by the offside flag. Nobody or nothing could cut Carey's celebrations short, though. His incredible effort sparked wild scenes in the away end and will be one spoken about fondly long beyond the drive home to Perth. St Johnstone found out their opponents in their first semi-final since they won the competition in 2021 immediately after the final whistle as they were drawn against Celtic live on BBC Scotland. 'Stonewall penalty - the ref has apologised' Livingston manager David Martindale: "You've got to give Graham Carey a bit of credit, it's a wonder-strike. Spoke about him during the week to be fair and was delighted he wasn't starting - I think he's a big player for them and he always creates something. "Andy Fisher kept them in it - I thought he had two great saves and then I think we've got to do a bit better ourselves. What I will say is it's a stonewall penalty in the first half that we never got - I think it was an easy decision." St Johnstone manager Simo Valakari: "First of all, we should talk about Andy Fisher's saves in the first half - he kept us in the game. There was some great defending first half as well. "Second half, everything changed. It was much easier for us. We were not right tactically first half. It looked like we didn't have energy. Robbie Muirhead fired Davie Martindale's Lions ahead from the penalty spot after on-loan Hearts midfielder Macaulay Tait was felled by Falkirk goalkeeper, Nicky Hogarth. John McGlynn's side - who were last beaten on league duty at the Falkirk Stadium by Edinburgh City when in League 1 - started the brighter and should have been in front through Barney Stewart, on his first start since joining from Heriot Watt University. They were left to rue that, and a handful of other chances, even more when Reece McAlear got the final touch during a mad melee just before half-time. The stop-start nature of the night did not suit the usually fluid Falkirk, though they did snatch one back through a penalty of their own. Stewart delayed his fall after feeling contact from Ryan McGowan, but referee Graham Grainger did not hesitate in pointing to the spot. Like Muirhead, Brad Spencer coolly slotted into the left corner, but his effort could not energise the league leaders enough to net a second. Keelan Adams came closest to an equaliser with a powerful drive in the dying embers of stoppage time. Ayr United now have the chance to take over at the top if they can beat Hamilton Academical on Saturday. Ewan Otoo was the home hero, scoring the only goal of the game just before half-time as the hosts moved above Hamilton Academical into eighth place. Roared on by a good crowd for Lennon's first home game in charge, it was Dunfermline who started the game on top. Chris Kane looked sharp and twice came close to opening the scoring against a Livingston side who looked leggy after Sunday's SPFL Trust Trophy final victory. Dunfermline found the breakthrough on the brink of half-time as Otoo slammed home from a corner after Livingston failed to clear the initial delivery. Livingston manager David Martindale made two changes at the break, with Scott Pittman and Michael Nottingham introduced in place of Macauley Tait and Stevie May - and it had a positive impact. Cristian Montano sent in a wonderful cross from the left-hand side that was met by the head of striker Teti Yengi. Pars goalkeeper Tobi Oluwayemi dived low to his right to keep the ball out and his clean sheet intact. The win drops Hamilton into the relegation play-off spot, while Livingston remain eight points behind Falkirk with five games left to play. Dunfermline Athletic manager Neil Lennon: "I thought we dominated the first half and we knew Livi, being the team that they are and what they are fighting for, they would come back at us. "I thought we carried a threat all evening and the players were magnificent. They did everything we asked them to do. We have a youngish squad who have a naievity about them, but there was nothing naive about them tonight." Livingston manager David Martindale: "I thought the first 20 minutes we were bullied a bit and never got going. They were really direct and we stood up to that test. "I thought the second half was mainly us as we were committing bodies. Teti Yengi is disappointed with his opportunity from six yards, it was a bit tame. But you have to credit Dunfermline. "The league is done. I have been pretty vocal on that, but we now have to try to finish second - it's still in our hands. Ayr are above us on goal difference, but they are still to come to our place." But Tete Yengi combined with Lewis Smith before striding through to finish past Tobi Oluwayemi to book Livingston's place in next month's final. The opening goal arrived on 14 minutes as Lewis Smith cut inside and whipped a curled effort in from 25 yards which clipped the crossbar on its way in. Soon after, a corner sent to the back post was headed by Ryan McGowan into the path of Robbie Muirhead who picked his spot. The game was put out of sight courtesy of Stephen Kelly with an effort from just outside the penalty box, Scott Pittman laying on the pass for the first-time shot. Livingston continued to control the game and Smith's cross was cleared off the line in the second half, while a Danny Wilson header rebounded off the post. Queen's Park have now conceded 28 goals in their past eight games, losing six in a row in the league, and now sit just three points above Dunfermline in the relegation play-off spot. Robbie Muirhead put David Martindale's side in front with a spectacular touch and finish before Stevie May doubled their advantage on the stroke of half-time, sweeping home after a neat one-two with Tete Yengi. The West Lothian outfit picked up where they left off after the break as Yengi made it three after Queen's Park goalkeeper Calum Ferrie hesitated coming off his line. Andrew Shinnie then benefitted from a large deflection to make it four before Jamie Brandon capped the victory in style with a long-range strike that flew past Ferrie. Livingston are hoping to seal promotion in addition to their cup triumph, currently sitting second in the Scottish Championship, eight points behind leaders Falkirk with a game in hand. "I'm more happy for the fans," Martindale said. "They had a tough year last year, so to go and win a trophy gives them something to celebrate. "I'm just delighted to be part of the club's history. It's a game of football we wanted to win, but it's about what it does for the club as a whole. "You want a clean sheet. Cove Rangers to secure a Scottish Cup quarter-final spot. McGowan was in the right place in the six-yard box to turn in Reece McAlear's free-kick - his first of the season. Another Adelaide-born player added the other two, as subsitute Yengi twice found the same bottom right corner to take his tally for the season to six. Paul Hartley's Cove were trying to make history by reaching the last eight of the competition for the first time. The visitors will look back on good saves by Jerome Prior from Findlay Marshall for spoiling that dream, and a header by Will Gillingham which drifted narrowly wide. Cove's 11-goal striker Mitch Megginson also hit the outside of a post with a quickly taken effort from 20 yards. There was no shortage of Scottish Cup-winning experience across the two sides. Livi striker Stevie May lifted the trophy twice with St Johnstone and the centre-back pairing of McGowan and Danny Wilson were successful with Hearts and Rangers respectively. As for Cove, manager Hartley was a Scottish Cup winner with Hearts and Celtic as a player, while captain Fraser Fyvie tasted glory with Hibernian, three years after lifting the FA Cup with Wigan Athletic. Fyvie had one of the League 1 side's other good chances, shooting straight at Prior following a neatly worked corner kick routine. The Frenchman's opposite number Nick Suman did a great job of keeping Cove in the tie when he dived high to his right to repel Dan Finlayson's bullet header. But Suman could do nothing about Yengi's deadly strikes, one teed up by Danny Wilson's header and the other set up by Lewis Smith. Livingston manager David Martindale: "Three goals and a clean sheet - I think that's a wee bit harsh on Cove who had a couple of chances themselves. "I think we deserve to be in the next round but 3-0 maybe flatters us. "We've had a difficult eight days but I thought the lads showed great energy levels and intensity. I've given the boys Monday off; they they deserve it." Cove Rangers manager Paul Hartley: "We had some excellent chances but just weren't clinical enough at the top end of the pitch. "Overall, I'm pleased with the players, we had a go and we really went for it. I'm disappointed to be out the cup but not disappointed by how we played. "We have to move onto the league now as we've got 14 games to try and do something." With just one game left in the regular season, Falkirk and Livingston are tied on 70 points at the top of the table, with the former ahead on goal difference. Livingston know that if their rivals slip up at home to Accies on Friday, a positive result could see them clinch the title on the final day and win direct promotion to the Premiership and avoiding the potential pitfalls of the play-offs. It’s a position Martindale didn’t think his side would be in, and he wants to embrace the opportunity. “I think there’s more of a chance than I thought we would have at this stage of the season, to be honest,” he said. “I was very vocal on that. Maybe a couple of months ago, I thought Falkirk were a wee bit out in front, but they’ve failed to get it over the line. “So I think there’s a very good opportunity for us as a football club to play Premiership football next year. “But I think the probabilities are that it’s in Falkirk’s hands, of course.” The build-up to the decisive matches is overshadowed by Hamilton’s situation. Accies were deducted 15 points by the SPFL over a series of rule breaches, a punishment that sent them to the bottom of the table and facing relegation as they sit eight points behind Airdrie. Hamilton have appealed the sanctions and a hearing will be held on Thursday to determine their fate. Martindale says the issue affects how he sees the situation a few days ahead of a huge match, and will also be on the mind of Falkirk boss John McGlynn and his players. “They’re at home against a Hamilton team, and I don’t think what’s going on with the SPFL and points deduction has helped the scenario, if I’m honest,” he said. “John’s probably sitting there thinking that if Hamilton get their 12 points back then that makes their game even more difficult. “I’m sitting thinking if Hamilton don’t get the 12 points back it’s going to make the game a little bit easier. “The situation, all in all, isn’t great. For a variety of reasons. For Falkirk and Livingston and for the teams at the bottom end of the Championship who don’t know what level of football they will be playing next year. “It’s not a great look but caveat that with we don’t know the inner workings and what’s going on. “But it would have made a lot more sense to have the initial hearing earlier, and if you couldn’t have the initial hearing a wee bit earlier, I would have fast-tracked the appeal process. “I don’t think we should be going into, what is it going to be 24 hours, 36 hours before the league deciders in terms of promotion and relegation, before there’s a decision made. “So I think that’s a disappointing aspect. I don’t think that’s great. But we don’t know the inner workings and how difficult that might have been and how complex that might have been to achieve.” STV News is now on WhatsAppGet all the latest news from around the country Follow STV News Follow STV News on WhatsAppScan the QR code on your mobile device for all the latest news from around the country '+scriptOptions._localizedStrings.webview_notification_text+' "+scriptOptions._localizedStrings.redirect_overlay_title+" "+scriptOptions._localizedStrings.redirect_overlay_text+" The only thing that could keep Luke Bellino and Sam Meriweather off the Brighton track and field record board is the schedule Both seniors came within a whisker of setting school records Friday in the Saline Golden Triangle Invitational Meriweather took second place in long jump with a leap of 21 feet He was one-half inch shy of tying the school record set by Noah Grimm in 2018 Bellino finished second in the 400-meter run in 48.98 seconds Brighton’s fastest time since Brian Cermak ran a school-record 48.9 to win the 2004 regional at Milford Bellino and Meriweather will likely have only three more opportunities to produce the little extra effort needed to break those school records the regional meet May 16 at Mason and the state Division 1 finals May 31 at East Kentwood Meriweather was also fourth in the 200 in 22.68 ran with Bellino on the fourth-place 800 relay team and was on the fifth-place 400 relay team Bellino was on a fifth-place 1,600 relay team Pinckney’s Sam Burrts was third in the 110 high hurdles in 15.40 and seventh in the 300 hurdles in 41.44 Producing fast times in the Mike Smith Elite fields were Brighton’s Tyler Brock MOVING ON: See where 27 Howell High School seniors will compete at next level ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Pinckney's Mackenzie Burns could exceed already impressive softball numbers NATIONAL CHAMPS: Michigan national championship gymnasts from Fowlerville, Howell bonded as youngsters In the girls meet, junior Juliet Lewis became the third-fastest 800 runner in Brighton history, taking first place in 2:15.48.
