Gone a bit flat at York Road 6' Boston with an opportunity to get the ball into the box from a free kick but it's massively overhit and goes out for a goalkick 3' Maidenhead return fire with a bit of pressure of their own But Boston defend well and manage to clear the danger A couple of half chances  already for Boston 0-0  Maidenhead will be attacking the Canal End in the first half.  A Boston United pitch invader is dealt with really well by the Maidenhead stewards  We’ve already had one good natured pitch invader. director said the service's team is ‘naturally disappointed’ after receiving a ‘requires improvement’ rating for its first ever inspection A Maidenhead home care service has said it ‘naturally disappointed’ after receiving a ‘requires improvement’ rating for its first ever inspection provides support to older people and younger adults living with dementia the Care Quality Commission (CQC) was published this week It received ‘good’ ratings for being effective but was rated ‘requires improvement’ because it fared worse in terms of being safe and well-led the CQC found three breaches of the legal regulations These were in relation to management of medicine The CQC observed that the manager did not always maintain accurate and complete records as part of management of medicine oversight of staff training and care records people being supported were protected and kept safe by Prestige Home Care and their rights around consent were respected the service made sure there was continuity of care and it worked well across teams and services to support people empathy and compassion [and] staff respected people’s privacy and dignity,” reads the CQC report The registered manager and other senior staff were ‘visible’ within the service and ‘led by example’ Staff told the CQC they understood their responsibilities to raise concerns and report incidents or allegations of abuse They felt confident issues would be addressed appropriately The service ‘cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff’ and staff told the CQC they enjoyed their roles Supported people were happy with the management of the service and knew who to contact if they had any problems they wanted to raise “People and relatives were positive about staff being kind “[They] felt they could approach the management team with any concerns and felt they had good communication and relationships with the service Nutrition and hydration needs were supported by staff and relatives said they were kept informed about their loved one’s health and welfare while they expressed general satisfaction with their care and treatment the CQC assessment found elements of care and support ‘did not always meet the expected standards’ Prestige Home Care says it fell short of a ‘good’ rating in one of its two less positive areas by one percentage point scoring 62 per cent instead of 63 per cent we are naturally disappointed to have fallen short in two areas we are proud of the majority Good ratings we achieved in three out of the five areas “The inspection report included positive feedback that highlighted the dedication and compassion of our team “We are committed to addressing the areas identified for improvement Turnaround plans are already in place to ensure we meet and exceed the required standards “Our goal is to continuously enhance the quality of care we provide and strive to become an outstanding company that our clients and community can continue to rely on.” Health Organisers of a new major festival in Maidenhead have said the event has been pushed back to next year to provide more time for planning Follow me on Twitter resident Toby Denney revealed he had joined forces with a group of locals to plan a new Maidenhead Summer Festival The festival was due to take place on land owned by Claires Court adjacent to Cannon Lane and  would feature live entertainment A premises licence application for the location had been submitted by  Berks & Bucks Events Collective CIC and this came before the Royal Borough’s licensing  sub-committee on Wednesday The application seeks a licence to hold a new creative family festival up to four times each year between June and September and on a weekend around Bonfire Night Organisers are asking for permission for a range of activities dance performance and other similar activities from Friday to Monday The team would also like to provide late-night refreshments of hot food and drink from Friday to Monday 11pm to midnight and serve alcohol on site from 10am to 11.30pm from Friday to Monday The application had  five representations in  support said: “It became clear that due to some of the representations that have been made [and] due to the fact that the licence was going to need to go to a hearing that some of the preparations that would need to have been in place in order to hold the event this year are just not going to be reasonable to be done “Given the high standards that those involved have “It will also give more time because there’s some concern expressed by some of the members of the community it’s important for us that we work with the community and we think that He added that while there are events planned by the CIC for this year ‘it’s unlikely that any of the events will take place at this location this year’ Mr Denney did outline some events the CIC are involved in that are taking place this year These include the two-day Maidenhead Craft Beer Festival which is taking place this bank holiday weekend and an acoustic festival which will be hosted on Maidenhead High Street on Saturday Cookham and Bisham) asked about parking and access Mr Denney said there is a gate just off Cannon Road that leads to the site Cllr Brar said there is a mini roundabout in that area and raised concerns about access being ‘quite tight’ Mr Denney said the roundabout is probably around 300 yards from that access gate He also confirmed that there would be parking available and stewards would be in place to ensure people were not parking on residential streets Mr Denney said the idea behind forming the CIC is to ‘provide the local community with a wider range of events and activities that cater to all’ added: “The CIC have a goal to create an experience that reflects Maidenhead's identity – diverse The panel retired to consider the application and the applicant will be informed of the decision within five working days Events An intrepid team of cyclists Europe we’ve done two countries – England and France – which is more manageable but here it’s like we’ve got to race against time.” The team has ramped up training in the build-up to their journey, including a 100-mile practice ride to Bath as well as ventures closer to home Shaf said: “If you were out late in Maidenhead you’d see a bunch of cyclists with their flashing lights riding around - doing 30 to 40 miles finishing about one or two o’clock in the morning “The guys definitely stepped up and did exactly what we needed to do.” Preparations were not without their difficulties and highlighted some of the challenges the team are likely to face during their Amsterdam trip One practice cycle around Box Hill in Surrey saw some of the group – led my a misguided sat nav – take a wrong turn “When they arrived at Box Hill they weren’t too happy,” Shaf said “Everyone else did about 80 miles that day knowing the team were cycling for a good cause would help them push through the tough times on the ride Shaf said: “When we had the riots up north – due to misinformation whatever you want to call it – the fact was that in Maidenhead we still had a very strong sense of with eight days of cancellations to all Maidenhead to Marlow services Replacement buses and alternate routes to London via High Wycombe are available but GWR has warned these will take ‘much longer’ GWR station manager for Slough & Maidenhead said: “This improvement work forms part of an ongoing programme of maintenance helping to ensure we continue to provide consistent and reliable services “GWR will provide replacement bus services between Maidenhead Bourne End and Marlow from Saturday 12 to Sunday 20 April “Further works in the Acton area will also mean that we are able to run less organisers of Maidenhead’s Big Read (MBR) festival have raised concerns over the future of the event unless more volunteers are found The organisers of Maidenhead’s Big Read (MBR) festival have raised concerns over the future of the event unless more volunteers are found The popular annual festival took place for the seventh year this March with a host of authors visiting schools and thousands taking part in activities at Maidenhead Library while this year’s event was hailed a ‘tremendous success’ organisers have warned the festival may have to be discontinued unless more volunteers join the MBR organising group chair of the Maidenhead Community Book Festival CIC we have proudly organised the annual Maidenhead’s Big Read festival illustrators and story tellers and related activities in celebration of the World Book Day “Our aim has been to support local schools and families in encouraging broader reading habits among reception to year seven students especially among those who may be hesitant or reluctant to read as well as create fun in our local community.” Stephan added that this year’s event reached more than 5,000 pupils across 25 local schools on weekdays across a two-week period Almost 3,000 attendees also enjoyed activities at Maidenhead Library and Once Upon A Bus the development and delivery of the MBR programme for this year once again presents significant challenges due to dwindled MBR organising group size and funding constraints “We urgently require additional committee members and a team of additional helpers to ensure the ongoing success and continuity and growth of MBR we may regrettably have to discontinue this valuable community initiative.” He called for more volunteers to join the MBR organising group The group’s role would include finding and securing authors organising and promoting the MBR programme and securing the necessary funding The group generally has meetings via Zoom in the evenings Organisers have arranged an information meeting for anyone interested to find out more The event will take place at Maidenhead Community Centre at 4 Marlow Road on Tuesday 30 Apr 2025 By This story was written with AI assistance The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead has launched procurement for a highways maintenance and capital works contract worth up to £114.8m including VAT will run for seven years with an option to extend by up to a further seven The local authority has indicated it may extend the contract first by five years and then by two more The successful bidder will take over responsibility for maintaining a network including 632km of roads 800km of footways and more than 300 bridge structures Drainage infrastructure covers 26,000 road drains and the borough includes more than 300km of public rights of way and 40,000 highway trees The road network is split into 29.2km of motorways and trunk roads 102.6km of C roads and 347.2km of unclassified D roads The winning contractor will work alongside the council to maintain infrastructure in the face of increasing traffic volumes and larger vehicles It will also be expected to work within the council’s Highway Management and Maintenance Plan which is based on three industry codes of practice with local variations The contract will be awarded via an open procedure Bids must be submitted by 1:00pm on 24 June 2025 Technical proposals will carry a weighting of 55 per cent and financial proposals 45 per cent The client has confirmed that tenders should be submitted electronically through the Bravo Solution portal The estimated award date is 13 October 2025 The opportunity is part of the borough’s statutory duties under the Highways Act 1980 and forms part of its wider strategic transport and infrastructure objectives Source: Gov.uk Find a Tender This story was written with AI assistance from Harmsworth Who is Harmsworth?… This story was written with AI assistance from Harmsworth McLaren Construction Midlands… Substantial growth in the infrastructure sector is expected over the next 12… Sign in or Register a new account to join the discussion Maidenhead United will be hoping the football gods are smiling on them on the final day of the season when they host Boston United on Bank Holiday Monday (May 5) After eight years at the top level of non-league football Maidenhead’s hope of extending their stay in the National League to a ninth successive season look precarious at best there is still hope and a victory over Boston on Monday - combined with favourable results elsewhere could yet see the Magpies pull off one of the greatest escape acts in recent history As our columnist Gavin Ames notes in this week’s Advertiser it would be an escape act that Harry Houdini would be proud of Maidenhead must beat a resurgent Boston United side at York Road - no mean feat given their recent fine form Boston arrive in Berkshire as one of the form sides in the division having dragged themselves away from the dreaded dotted line in a way the likes of Maidenhead Wealdstone and Dagenham & Redbridge haven't been able to match.  They were though defeated by the Magpies at home earlier in the season when goals from Shawn McCoulsky and Reece Smith earned Alan Devonshire’s side a deserved victory A similar result on Monday would do very nicely and could even preserve Devonshire’s record of having never been relegated as a manager they’ll need to deal with their own business at home to Boston and hope that both Wealdstone and Dagenham & Redbridge slip up in their respective matches Supporters at York Road will have one eye on the action unfolding in front of them and another on the progress of Dagenham’s trip to Solihull Moors and Wealdstone’s home game with FC Halifax Town at Grosvenor Vale the Magpies need to defeat Boston and hope the Daggers lose and Wealdstone fail to win - Simple right United go into their final game in good form In any normal season it may have been enough to see them move out of the bottom four their good form has coincided with equally good results for their rivals and those results have kept them pinned down in the relegation zone An unbeaten April has seen them claim wins over Tamworth there were also two draws - that Devonshire felt should have been wins - against Woking and Wealdstone Those are the wins that got away so to speak Monday’s opponents are safe from relegation and largely now playing for pride after an excellent month They secured their safety with a 2-1 win over Gateshead on Saturday and will bring a large away following to their final game of the season This fixture is going to be segregated and there are no remaining tickets for Boston supporters away fans should not travel to York Road unless they have a ticket Away supporters who do have a ticket should enter via the Bell Street turnstiles while home supporters can access the ground via the York Road turnstiles They can still purchase tickets online before 1pm on the matchday or on the gate with cash or card Tickets prices are as follows: Adults: £20; proposals have drawn criticism from parish councillors who criticising a perceived lack of infrastructure described the homes as ‘like a six-year-old playing Sims’ A decision on whether a plan for 225 homes south of Maidenhead will be greenlit has been delayed for the third time in a month RBWM councillors had been set to deliver a verdict on developer Taylor Wimpey’s plans at an Extraordinary Maidenhead Development Management Committee meeting tonight (April 15) first planned for March 20 and delayed twice more has been marked up as cancelled on the Royal Borough's website Email correspondence uploaded to RBWM’s planning portal had suggested a decision could now come on Thursday April 24 - which has now been confirmed by the council A council spokesperson told the Advertiser: “The Kimbers Lane application will be heard on 24 April following a joint decision by the Council and applicant to allow the full consultation period before a decision.” Taylor Wimpey’s plan sits in an area of intensive housebuilding between Spring Hill Harvest Hill and Maidenhead Golf Course – where more than 2,500 homes are planned Its proposals have drawn criticism from Bray Parish Councillors who, criticising a perceived lack of infrastructure, described the homes as ‘like a six-year-old playing Sims’ Taylor Wimpey said its plans will provide £4.8million in Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) payments and £4.1million of Section 106 money to fund infrastructure improvements across the Royal Borough.  Outraged tradesmen in Maidenhead fear their livelihoods are on the line after being served council enforcement notices amid a crackdown on parking near their homes, Maidenhead Advertiser reported The watchful eye of RBWM’s parking department has fallen upon vans used by Ray Street and Ray Park Lane residents with the council threatening to revoke their permits over claimed rule-breaking after years of having to fork out hundreds of pounds for parking permits the swoop on their vital vehicles is hypocritical and has left them fearing for their futures said he faced quitting his job or being forced to move out of his home of 20 years “The only way I can describe it is discrimination against tradespeople,” he said “It’s not a lifestyle vehicle of choice; it’s a vehicle of necessity I either have to quit my job or move.” Martin’s Ford Transit is what keeps his job running It stores all the tools and materials needed for his specialist bathroom fitting work for elderly and disabled people in and around Maidenhead Having twice been the victim of van theft—at the cost of thousands of pounds—he said leaving his van parked unattended in a foreign corner of Maidenhead would be enormously stressful That was even if alternative parking could be found “I think it’s disgraceful because if I can’t keep my vehicle safe near my house then I would have to look at moving house,” he said is also worried about the safety of his van Follow me on Twitter I am grateful for the update provided by Belmont ward's councillors (Viewpoint April 25) to my letter regarding unadopted roads Unfortunately it does not address the issue I raised: residents on unadopted roads pay council tax but do not receive all the benefits of those payments while also usually paying fees to freeholders or others for the maintenance of unadopted roads While my councillors’ commitment to litter-picking is admirable this should not be the job of a local councillor – especially if the councillor is filling a void left by poor governance Many residents on unadopted roads don't want special treatment they just want one thing: the council to adopt these roads Now that RBWM finds itself in a precarious financial position it seems unlikely that the council will be able to adopt private roads as we pay council tax irrespective of whether they deliver certain services to us or not I am glad that this issue is receiving the attention of Parliament though Politics needs to be seen to be making a difference in people’s lives; defensiveness and a ‘computer says no’ attitude doesn't cut it Where is the scrutiny on lighting provision The Lib Dem Belmont councillors’ response (Viewpoint May 2) to the query about unadopted roads in their ward begs the question: Are they actively scrutinising current planning applications for housing development in their locality There is no evidence to suggest they are actually checking to see if developers are including the provision of street lighting in their plans Perhaps they can explain why there appears to be no input from officers or themselves on application 24/03416/FULL on this specific essential amenity Furthermore why is it taking longer than the prescribed 12 weeks to determine this very small (four unit) application Housing projects could benefit from allotments On-site mitigation of the loss of green spaces in housing developments is far better than the Chancellor's idea of developers contributing to a ‘universal nature fund’ The provision of on-site allotments is one way that is being undertaken in some developments with the support of the National Allotment Society and is also relevant to the immediate site Perhaps the development of Maidenhead Golf Course and other sites should include such a way of saving some green space productively It has the bonus of providing householders with the opportunity of growing some of their own fruit and vegetables and reconnecting with the natural world RBWM councillors could insist that this be included in the developments in their authority It might just redeem them a little in the eyes of their electorate ‘Improved’ bus service presents A4 problem We live in Knowl Hill and the bus came around Choseley Road estate but not any more We now have to walk up to the bus stop on the A4 and catch it outside the Square Deal cafe (Flicks Cafe) That’s ok but coming home from Maidenhead with the bus stop on the other side of the road means we either have to cross the bridge or the A4 The bridge is almost impossible to get up the steps and lethal to cross the A4 with cars coming at high speed even though the speed limit is 40 mph so the improved bus service is not improved for us Complex highways job includes remote work  RBWM recently advertised for a senior highways inspection officer with three inspectors reporting Bearing in mind the strict routine and schedule for inspections and the fact that the three inspectors will be out most of the time it is surprising that the post allows remote working for three days a week Is this common for most highway staff?  Obviously the three inspectors can’t work within the borough for just two days a week The applicant must have a City and Guilds qualification that hasnine units over the four-day course.  One such unit is on the complicated Highways Act that has fines from level 1 £2,500 with an unlimited maximum fine at level 5 It is unlikely the course could cover this complicated subject in half a day for such a short overall length.  This isn’t traffic law but covers items like mixing mortar on the highway placing building materials etc.  For example mixing or deposits of any mortar or cement that sticks to the surface can result in a level 4 fine of up to £2.500 Another topical issue is that it is prohibited to run electric cables across or under a public highway The footways are part of the public highway and this has become a headache for charging electric cars that are parked outside a house.  Highway inspectors have to be alert to these and many other issues on their inspections The role includes managing the team of inspectors to conduct scheduled safety inspections on carriageways investigate customer enquiries and complaints accurately record safety and service records There are 618 km of carriageway with inspections ranging from monthly to 12 monthly on minor roads that have to be driven using two inspectors at no more than 25mph.  Presumably they have to stop and mark any defects There are over 1,000km of footways and cycleways that have to be walked on both sides separately between a two-week cycle to yearly Another job advertised recently was for a Clerk of Works in highways ‘to provide support across all highway associated term contracts to seek better control on quality of workmanship This post also allows the person to work remotely for three days per week.  Do the council’s contractors also work from home three days a week The ‘hybrid’ working is written into the job adverts so it presumably is part of the contract of employment Can this be changed if found that it is impracticable to work remotely for jobs that require constant outside monitoring within the borough Allowing them to work remotely for three days a week with inspections that require constant monitoring throughout the weeks seems to be a step too far as well as being unfair to the public Drivers’ poor behaviour at roundabout works I am currently spending a sizeable chunk of my daily commute to the office sat in traffic caused by the Holyport Roundabout works Nothing fails to amaze me on the roads these days but the actions of multiple drivers on Tuesday morning took the biscuit Traffic on the approach from Holyport Road had once again ground to a halt as our lights painfully turned red before we could squeeze through a number of drivers decided they would simply pull out of the queue overtake the rest of us and steam straight through the red lights to try and piggyback on the cars which had snuck through Perhaps this letter confirms my status as having morphed into a grumpy middle-aged man but these delays are bad enough without fellow drivers ignoring the most basic part of the Highway Code I noticed this interesting headline: ‘EU to remove major obstacle to bring softer Brexit one step closer’ and that the EU will then remove more unnecessary obstacles to good relations the EU could choose to eliminate some of the frustrations it has inflicted on our exporters When people complain about extra paperwork that is EU paperwork Which problems also beset American exporters one reason why President Trump is fed up with the EU EU protectionism impacts on goods produced by the 94.4 per cent of mankind who live outside the EU have ratified the 2017 WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement So having accepted that treaty obligation to make trade easier FC Halifax Town fell to another defeat at home as struggling Maidenhead United snatched all three points thanks to a late double The Shaymen came into Saturday’s important clash against Maidenhead having made two changes with Jamie Cooke coming into the team alongside Daniel Nkrumah The game’s first real action saw Kane Ferdinand pick up a booking for the visitors The match lacked any goalmouth action until the 38th minute when Reece Smith’s trickery gave Joshua Johnson the chance to strike from the edge of the box but his effort went narrowly wide of the left post Tom Pugh then picked up the game’s second card after tripping Shawn McCoulsky Maidenhead made a substitution at the break as Tristan Abrahams entered the fray in place of Casey Pettit The Shaymen had a golden chance to take the lead just after halftime Florent Hoti clipped a ball down the line for Nkrumah to chase he shrugged off his man before driving toward goal but the Magpie defender got there just in time A double change from Chris Millington saw Sean Tarima and Zak Emmerson both make their way onto the Shay pitch Josh Emmanuel won the ball high up the pitch before combining with both Nkrumah and Florent Hoti before the latter fired over the bar from the edge of the area Angelo Cappello was then booked for Town as he fouled Remy Clerima Halifax must have thought they had gone ahead with 20 minutes to play Some good work from Angelo Cappello gave Nkrumah possession of the ball referee Andrew Miller waved away the appeals Hoti and Josh Emmanuel then both had efforts that were eventually blocked Town’s next change gave Luca Thomas 10 minutes to try and grab the winner With five minutes of normal time remaining Smith picked up the ball centrally before finding Sam Barratt who powered the ball home into the bottom corner for his fourth of the campaign Smith’s clearance caused all sorts of issues for the Shaymen defence Former Town loanee McCoulsky latched onto the loose ball before lobbing Toby Savin for his 12th of the season Halifax did have a couple of late chances through the likes of Ryan Galvin and Luca Thomas; however none of these troubled Maidenhead too much who saw out the remainder of the game to secure back-to-back wins 11 Angelo Cappello (14 Harvey Sutcliffe 87) 6 Thierry Latty-Fairweather (19 Owen Cochrane Youngsters from around Maidenhead are being invited to delve into different worlds at an immersive new roleplay café set to open just after Easter gives children the chance to try their hand at special in Maidenhead that’s an alternative to soft play “We’ve created these rooms - or zones if you like a construction site - lots of others - so they [children] will get to kind of role play in different areas so it’s quite immersive for them.” was borne from a frustration at finding play areas closer to Maidenhead for her two young children moved to the town in 2021 but found themselves having to travel to Windsor and High Wycombe for the activities they wanted to do with their children “Ours [children] are at that age where we’re looking for some really quality options to go to as a venue,” Laura said Piccolo Land occupies the former Masters E-Sports gaming bar which closed in 2023 The unit has undergone a big transformation over the past month ahead of its expected opening the week after Easter Sunday(April 20) “It’s really exciting to see it all come together,” Laura said “There’s been a lot of work behind the scenes - a lot of people involved - to make the space fun “So which will see 452 car park spaces provided – almost half the 885 spaces which were originally proposed Windsor and Maidenhead council signed off on a deal last month which saw it sell its 50 per cent freehold interest in the Nicholsons Centre A key part of the agreement meant the council was no longer responsible for funding the new multi-storey car park which was estimated to cost between £20million to £30million The new car park will be accessed via Queens Lane and is set to feature a pineapple-façade made up of folded and flat steel panels This is planned in homage to the Pineapple Steam Brewery which was established in the town centre in 1840 A total of 202 spaces at the multi-storey will be allocated to residents of the new housing with 100 spaces for shoppers and 150 spaces for neighbouring commercial properties A total of 56 disabled car parking bays will be available with the multi-storey also featuring a Shopmobility hub A total of 856 homes are proposed under the new scheme – a 26.8 per cent increase from the original 675 homes planned Developer Areli has shifted away from office space replacing one building earmarked for offices with housing the developer said: “The post-pandemic shift in working patterns has influenced the balance of live-work-play preferences and shifted towards a higher proportion of home working “This has led to a reconsideration of the balance between residential and office provision.” which will be located near Broadway close to the One Maidenhead scheme The major regeneration project was dubbed ‘Maidhatten’ by residents when it was approved back in 2021 A red-brick retirement living building is also planned which will provide 101 senior living homes bars and cafes across its major regeneration scheme Many of these will be focused around a new public square where the developer is hoping to create a ‘lively atmosphere’ Pop-up shops and craft studios could open up in Zone 2 of the development A selection of new pedestrian routes are planned across the development so shoppers can wander through town Areli has described the Nicholsons Quarter project as the ‘last and most important’ piece in the puzzle for Maidenhead’s ongoing regeneration said: “The Areli team remain firmly committed to delivery of the Nicholson Quarter we have been working hard with the council and community to move forward with the plans despite the many challenges faced by the project higher interest rates and political uncertainty we have now secured the necessary Compulsory Purchase Order and are now ready to deliver this important project.” “The updated proposals remain true to the original vision of the consented scheme which was supported by over 80 per cent of the public “As a result of further engagement with the community and Council we have made the new improvements to reflect feedback and market conditions.” Areli said it is looking to start construction work at the start of 2026 once it has secured approval from the council for its revised plans The developer said it is aiming to complete the major regeneration scheme in 2029 Planning friends and customers gathered outside a new pottery studio in Maidenhead on Maidenhead is it that we’ve got this right in the middle of our town centre “This is the kind of thing we should encourage more and more and I can’t wait to see it thrive over the next few months and few years.”  There was plenty of cheering and clapping as Mr Reynolds cut the bow to officially declare the new studio open There were lots of activities to enjoy on the day an animal balloon farm and free balloons were also being given out Loiza said she came up with the idea for the new studio after finding herself going out of the town to do activities with her two young children we do need for firing and glazing but we’re really super grateful to our community who’ve come in and supported us so early in our journey,” she added Future plans for the studio include expanding services to offer pottery painting workshops pottery throwing and teaching customers how to make their own pottery Loiza added: “[I’m] really overwhelmed by how many people turned up to see us and find out more. plans had previously been praised by councillors - though this was not without objection from residents living near the site.  The Woodlands Park site pictured in February More details have been revealed over a looming plan to build more than 200 homes on greenspace in Woodlands Park Developer Berkeley Homes has submitted a reserved matters application proposing 213 homes down from the 225 approved by RBWM in 2024 Then, the plans were praised by councillors who voted unanimously to approve the scheme though residents living near the site have flagged worries about worsening traffic and pollution Changes have been made since outline permission for 225 homes at the site was approved last year Berkeley Homes now seeks permission for 213 homes beside Woodlands Park Avenue and Woodlands Park Road in a new neighbourhood it has called Lillibrooke near Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice and Woodlands Business Park is part of the AL24 land allocation - an area earmarked for development in the Borough Local Plan Lillibrooke would be separated into four areas: Gateway The homes across these areas are a mix of flats terraced and detached properties ranging in size from one bed to five bedrooms Eighty-five of the proposed homes would be classed as affordable would feature red brick as the dominant building material as well as some painted bricks and cladding Blocks of flats on the outer fringes of the site have been reduced a consultation document from the developer said Parking for 466 residents’ cars and 11 visitors would be provided at the site Berkeley Homes’ plan includes new allotment spaces as well as sports pitches to the east of the site on land bordering Lillibrooke Manor A planning statement on behalf of the application said: “The proposal will provide a wide range of homes suitable to meet a variety of community housing needs “The development would retain and enhance the existing landscape character of the area and provide new and improved connections across the whole development and into the wider area.” Several objections from residents living near to the development site have been submitted on the plans One feared worsening noise and problems with dust during the construction as well as issues with traffic on Woodlands Park Road once the development was completed ‘The negative impact of the development if approved will outweigh any good,’ the objection said Another objection referenced increased pressure on schools and health facilities in the area resulting from an influx of new residents Berkshire Archaeology has submitted a response to the plans ‘The application site falls within an area of archaeological significance and archaeological remains may be damaged by ground disturbance for the proposed development’ conditions should be added including that an assessment be completed into potential historical finds at the site Active Travel England also submitted a response which reiterated that its advice on ‘sustainable developments’ should be considered The plans can be viewed on RBWM's planning portal under the reference: 25/00927 SearchREPORT | WEALDSTONE 1-1 MAIDENHEAD UNITEDNicole Cho-YeeApr 212 min readUpdated: Apr 22 Wealdstone came from behind against Maidenhead United to draw 1-1 and secure a vital point towards their fight for survival An early goal from Brendan Kiernan for the Magpies was cancelled out by a strike from Kallum Cesay ensuring that the spoils were shared between the relegation strugglers Neil Gibson made four changes to the side that were defeated by Boston United on Good Friday Josh Grant and Harrison Sohna returning to the starting line-up for the Stones conceding in just the fourth minute of the match as Kane Ferdinand cut the ball back to the edge of the six-yard box for Kiernan to slot home under Dante Baptiste Wealdstone galvanised a chance in the 16th minute with Alex Reid narrowly firing over the crossbar from distance but Josh Grant halted Shaun McCoulsky with a fantastic last ditch tackle; then Baptiste produced a superb point-blank save to deny Reece Smith the Stones generated a moment of incisiveness through Carayol surging down the right flank and drilling a dangerous ball across the face of the goal that just evaded the oncoming Reid Gibson’s side were rewarded for their perseverance and were back on level terms with Maidenhead United in the 39th minute with Cesay’s shot deflecting in off of the crossbar from close range the Magpies had the opportunity to edge ahead however Baptiste reacted with another excellent save to deny McCoulsky from an acute angle ensuring his team went into the interval all square The Stones were fortunate not to go behind six minutes after the restart as the visitors seized possession in midfield and McCoulsky broke away for a one-on-one with Baptiste but the Stones shot-stopper produced another fantastic save Wealdstone gathered added impetus and were agonisingly close to taking the lead in the 61st minute with Enzio Boldewijn forcing a fine reflex save from former Stone The Stones continued to probe for a second goal and were nearly fruitful in the 69th minute as Will Randall burst through the midfield and fed Reid but the top scorer could only fire wide from a tight angle Baptiste’s excellent distribution released Reid through on goal with only a vital block from Remy Clerima thwarting the talisman As the match entered the remaining five minutes Reid nearly provided a moment-of-magic with an acrobatic effort that flew over the crossbar Gibson’s side were unable to rally and find a late winner with the points shared between the relegation battlers The Stones return to action on Saturday 26th April when they travel to Roots Hall Football Stadium to face Southend United Outraged tradesmen in Maidenhead fear their livelihoods are on the line after being served council enforcement notices amid a crackdown on parking near their homes The watchful eye of RBWM’s parking department has fallen upon vans used by Ray Street and Ray Park Lane residents with the council threatening to revoke their permits over claimed rule-breaking the swoop on their vital vehicles is hypocritical and has left them fearing for their futures – one of three ticked off tradesmen the Advertiser has spoken to – said he faced quitting his job or being forced to move out from his home of 20 years “The fitting work he does for elderly and disabled people in and around Maidenhead Having twice been the victim of van theft before – at the cost of thousands of pounds – he said it would be an enormous stress to have to leave his van parked unattended in a foreign corner of Maidenhead “I think it’s disgraceful because if I can’t keep my vehicle safe near my house then I would have to look at moving house,” he said Gary said: “Where the hell am I supposed to park my van now An email to Gary from RBWM parking and enforcement said his resident’s parking permit was breaking the rules because it was too heavy to meet the criteria “It’s only a small wheelbase Vauxhall Vivaro,” he said “It’s no bigger than most of the cars when it's parked in the bays here.” Parking permits were introduced in Ray Street and Ray Park Lane area around five years ago long-time residents Martin and Gary did manage to secure permits for their vehicles both said it has been a battle to get them renewed I’ll need to look at moving out,” Gary added “If this scheme was up and running when I first moved here I wouldn’t have moved here because my van is my number one concern and then it’s going to annoy them and they’ll ring the council ‘I know what we’re going to introduce a resident’s parking permit outside your house’.” The Royal Borough was contacted for comment Veteran forward Ian Henderson put the
