An award-winning play by a local director and cast has picked up another honour as it continues around the theatre festival circuit
Stamford-based director Matthew Clift took his one-act authorised adaptation of Howard Brenton’s Warmind to the Birmingham and District Theatre Guild One Act Play Festival on Sunday
It had already picked up three awards at the central heats of the All England Theatre Festival in Leicester in March
And in Birmingham, Market Deeping cast member Ben Stroud again earned ‘best actor’ award
The play was also nominated for technical achievement
which also features Oakham actor Ellie Dickinson and Peterborough-based Nikki Amory
next take Warmind to the quarter-finals of the All England Theatre Festival
Market Deeping’s Millfield culvert is being replaced
assistant director for Highways at LCC said: “Our team has identified the need for work to be carried out in Market Deeping due to the current poor condition of the existing brick arch at the Millfield Road culvert.
and then replace it with a new pipe culvert
but it does protect this area of drainage from being affected by what would be a system failure further down the line
The works will be carried out at Millfield Road
The works are planned to start at site on Monday
November 4 with an expected time for completion three weeks later
The works are expected to be completed by Friday
Onsite work times will be 07:30 to 16:00 generally
unless there are unforeseen issues that require changes in working times
The works are currently programmed for Monday to Friday
A road closure is required for the duration of the works with a diversion route in place throughout.
The signed diversion route using like-for-like roads will be; Millfield Road
Millfield Road and vice versa.
Karen Cassar added: “This set of works will cost around £40,000 to complete
and we will do everything that we can to keep disruption to a minimum.
“With the inherent complexity of removing and replacing a working culvert
we have to put in a diversion using like-for-like roads so that road users
access for residents and services throughout the scheme will be maintained.
“The programme’s timeframe that we are working to is based on the ideal weather conditions for this sort of work
We shall be doing our absolute best to complete the project within this schedule
and I’d like to thank everyone effected for their patience while we deliver this vital improvement for drainage in the area.“

Manor and Little Meadow bridges getting expert work programme
said: “Manor and Little Meadow Bridge are grade II listed
so these repairs are not only vital but extremely complicated in order to preserve the historic legacy at each part of the crossing
“There are several defects such as mortar loses
cracks and overgrown vegetation in the cracks and crevices
Masonry repairs will be carried out by our specialist team and we have used listed building records and guidance from the expert historic team in Lincolnshire to ensure that we are maintaining the historic appearance as it should be.
The works will be carried out at the Manor and Little meadow bridge span across the River Weland
The area that specifically carries King Street across
It is located south of West Deeping.
August 5 and have a planned end date of Friday
Work times on site will be from 07.30 to 16.30.
A road closure is required for the duration of the works
The signed diversion route will be; North of West Deeping onto A1175 (Stamford Road)
Karen Cassar added: “These works will greatly extend the life of the bridges for years to come and will cost around £40,000 to complete
because we cannot have traffic using the bridge whilst it’s being repaired
we are having to put a like-for-like road diversion in place
Property access around the bridge will be maintained and access to the adjacent land will be available during the works
“We will do everything that we can to get these works completed quickly and reduce the disruption where e possibly can
I would like to thank everyone effected for their understanding and patience while we ensure the future of the bridges that connect West Deeping and Lolham”

great for the environment – quick to do and improves safety
the latest round of works is a process that sees the top part of the road shotblasted with specialist equipment to improve braking performance and safety
Think of it like sanding the top of a wooden deck after it gets worn and slippery-smooth
only in a much bigger way and with much bigger bits of kit
Nearly 11,000 metres of roads will get the roughing-up treatment with the sites listed getting the improvement:
said: “This is another excellent technique we can use in colder weather as part of our carriageway surface treatments programme
improved road surface and we usually carry them out across many roads.
“Whilst hundreds of other Highways teams are continuing with pothole repairs
road rebuilding and plenty of other areas of maintenance that we are delivering daily and will continue to do
this is the next part of our specialist surface scheme that’s about to get underway
“As part of our ‘On the Road in ’24’ commitment
we have already delivered 12 miles of Carriageway Micro Asphalt
177 miles of carriageway surface dressing and now we’re focusing on this carriageway retexturing programme
“Retexturing is a very sustainable and cost-effective way to restore skid resistance and texture to improve tyre grip
We can do this work by either Hydro Blasting or Shot Blasting and can carry out this work on roads where the surface is in generally good condition but needs roughing up to get better performance.
“Retexturing means we get a big improvement in the right places at reduced cost whilst delivering on our carbon saving commitments.”
Where each set of road improvement in the £300,000 programme is being carried out
there will be some traffic delays via a mixture of temporary road closures and convoy working traffic management
Cllr Davies added: “One of the best things about this technique is that we don’t have to close a road for very long and in most cases
we can get the scheme done with traffic lights and a moving convoy to keep the road open.
“We will try to avoid disruption wherever possible to lessen the impact on local traffic networks
some disruption will be unavoidable to maintain the safety of road users and our crews
and I want to thank anyone affected by this improvement programme for their patience and understanding.”

Firefighters are heroes and life-savers in our communities
but behind every uniform is a person with a home life
Lincolnshire has 29 community fire stations which are staffed entirely by On-Call firefighters
with all 38 fire stations having an On-Call crew available.
Some of these firefighters work in supermarkets
they help to provide cover so the local fire appliance remains available to respond to emergencies
using the latest equipment and life-saving techniques
floods and many other incidents. They are continually trained to a professional standard
learning and maintaining skills including trauma and casualty care
manual handling and Health and Safety training
our On Call firefighters must be within five minutes of the fire station so if their pager goes off
Shifts are available around other commitments such as work and caring for children or relatives
said: “We’re always looking for new On-Call firefighters to help us keep good cover for emergencies
It’s important to us that firefighters reflect the communities they serve
and we encourage people to apply from all walks of life.”
Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue hold ‘Have-a-Go’ days every month to give an insight into the role of an On-Call firefighter and the required fitness and aptitude. To book onto a session and find out more, visit www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/lfr
Rachael Horner and James Tamburrini are On Call firefighters at Market Deeping fire station
Having completed their initial training they are now part of a team of ten at the station
working shifts under watch manager Kallum Errico
The busy crew attended 230 call outs last year
Landscape gardener James said: “When you start training it can be very daunting
You learn skills that are useful in your ‘other’ life – recognising when something is potentially dangerous and
who is considering training to become a wholetime firefighter
It’s unique in that way and becomes part of your life
In some ways you become a role model in your community- people wave at the fire appliance when we go past
It’s brought so much to my life – I’d recommend it to anyone.”
Sean said: “This job can be mentally and physically testing and you have to have room for it in your life
But it’s a misconception that this is a voluntary role – we get paid to train and we are paid every time we go out to an incident
