Milton Keynes City Council’s Cabinet is set to give the go ahead to a new neighbourhood plan for Newport Pagnell
giving greater local influence to residents over future development
In a referendum that took place in Newport Pagnell on 17 October
almost 90% of local voters were in favour adopting the neighbourhood plan
The City Council’s Cabinet is meeting on 5 November where councillors are expected to make a decision to recommend the plan for approval.
A draft Newport Pagnell Neighbourhood Plan was drawn up by local people and the Town Council before the community was given the opportunity to share their thoughts and help shape the proposals
Neighbourhood plans are designed to give residents more say on how land is used in their area in the future
There are 23 neighbourhood plans within Milton Keynes
with the city council currently working alongside other local communities to bring proposals forward

Newport Pagnell Town Women manager Neil Griffiths is confident his side are heading in the right direction as they prepare for Saturday's Adobe Women's FA Cup tie with local rivals New Bradwell St Peter Ladies
Town were promoted from the ninth tier of the women's football pyramid up to the sixth last summer
before Griffiths took charge in December and led them into mid-table of the East Midlands Regional Women's Football League Division One South after an impressive end to the 2023-24 campaign
with success in the cup a major part of their ambitions
adding league winners at this level but also maintaining a really young group
We have first-team players with ages ranging from 17 to 41
"I'm conscious about not making specific targets other than to keep improving but we want to be winning games consistently
It still offers that prestige when you hear the name of the competition and it gives us the chance to create special memories because the games are big occasions
This one is even more so because the two teams know each other so well
"We also can't get away from the fact that the support from the FA in prize money helps us no end."
combining high standards with a welcoming atmosphere that gets the best out of everybody
He said: "We have a really professional environment
I'm also really lucky to have a great management team
I'm supported by Brad Churchill and my assistant is Lee Adams
who holds a UEFA B licence and a Masters in sports coaching
He has coaching experience at elite talent programmes within a number of professional football clubs and is a senior lecturer at University Campus Football Business (UCFB) at Wembley stadium
"We provided additional support to keep the players fit over the summer
which the players are brilliant at engaging with
We try not to be too reactionary from game to game but keep developing the way we play
"But what I'm really proud of is how welcoming we are
I think every player we invited to talk to us over the summer ended up signing and that says a lot about the group
We create a real safe space for development."
Newport Pagnell have their own specific claim to fame in the shape of England Women's captain Leah Williamson
A new community football pitch was recently unveiled by Williamson at the club after it was awarded a Lionesses Futures Fund grant and Griffiths describes the Lionesses skipper as a huge inspiration
On the day she came down it was really interesting seeing senior players just as excited as the younger ones
That tells you the impact she's had on every walk of life
"You see now that girls of every age and demographic want to play football
At our own club we have multiple Under-15 teams
"The pitch itself is a huge benefit to the club
It allows us a stable training facility that we can maintain and we look after
There's a girls-only night and it means we don't have unsociable hours."
Griffiths will hope Newport Pagnell Town's impressive progress is reflected in their efforts on Saturday

Maidenhead United lift the Berks & Bucks Cup
Maidenhead United Women are the Berkshire and Buckinghamshire County Champions for the very first time after a dominant 3-1 win over Newport Pagnell Town in Sunday’s final at Holloways Park
United had reached the final four times in their history but had never taken the cup home with them to York Road
something they proudly achieved in the spring sunshine yesterday (Sunday)
It also means Ed Jackson-Norris’s side have lifted silverware for a second successive season after last season’s success over Fulham in the Combined Counties League Cup final
They achieved it in conclusive fashion as well
going 2-0 up before half-time thanks to two goals in the space of five minutes from striker Natalie Cowell
They may have had more goals before the referee blew the whistle for half-time
and there was a moment of panic and concern when Newport Pagnell Town cut the deficit to one goal from a direct free kick minutes into the second half
But Maidenhead simply played with the same authoritative control they’d display all game
and they wrapped up the victory through substitute Macey-Nikiah Walters in the 74th minute

Magpies’ keeper Kenny Clarke was forced into a good late save to maintain their two-goal buffer
but the team saw the game out comfortably to get their hands on yet more silverware
United came into the final off the back of a morale-boosting win in the league over Bristol Rovers at York Road the previous Sunday
and they’d been in excellent form in this competition

Maidenhead made a bright opening to the game and with a bit more luck
might have scored from one of several dangerous balls and crosses they put into the box in the first 10 minutes
They grasped the lead in the 15th minute when Mia Parker looked to fire her side ahead
Newport Pagnell managed to snuff out her chance
but the ball fell kindly for Cowell to turn home the rebound
Five minutes later and the Magpies were two goals to the good when Emily McMaster won the ball back and passed it forward for Cowell roll home after an error from the Newport Pagnell keeper
Parker could have scored a third just a few minutes later but was thwarted by the Newport keeper
The Magpies were forced into a couple of enforced substitutions
with Isacc Gregory and Jazz King coming off for Simone O’Brien and Katie Akerman
but they failed to let those setbacks disrupt them and Akerman came close to scoring just five minutes after coming on
With rolling substitutions in place for the game
Maidenhead made three more changes at the break as Walters
Raissa Jauad-Taborda and Aaliyah Charles came on for Izzy Stockton
But Newport Pagnell gave themselves a foothold in the game with a goal out of the blue from a free kick in the 48th minute
and Akerman was unfortunate to shoot wide in the area after great wing play from O’Brien
Akerman then struck the crossbar from a free kick in the 63rd minute
but the goal their dominance deserved duly arrived in the 74th minute when Walters made the most of a fantastic piece of play from Jauad-Taborda
The two substitutes combining well and Walters firing home to restore the two goal advantage
O’Brien forced the Newport Pagnell keeper into a fingertip save and Charles was also denied in the closing stages secured an impressive victory
United now have a week to recover before hosting Swindon Town Women at York Road on Sunday (March 23)
They’ll also visit Bournemouth Sports and Keynsham Town before finishing the season with a home game against Worthing on Sunday

British farmers have launched a protest at a new build site in Newport Pagnell
as the Prime Minister announces proposals for new towns across the country
Sir Kier Starmer failed to speak on the plans for new towns
leaving the site after farmers protests caused 'concerns'
A dozen farmers and their tractors blocked the exit in Buckinghamshire this morning
Sir Kier Starmer's been in the county
after the Government announcement of more than 100 possible locations having been suggested for new towns in England
The Prime Minister's promised "the largest housebuilding programme since the post-war era"
the spotlight was stolen by farmers and tractors
against changes on farmer's inheritance tax
The proposals for farmers has been introduced by Labour
who insist it will not make a U-turn on its plans to introduce a 20% inheritance tax rate on farms worth more than £1 million
The changes announced in the Budget are due to come into force in April 2026 and scrap an exemption which meant no inheritance tax was paid to pass down family farms
Farmer's protests in Buckinghamshire come just days after Save British Farming organised a rally to protest the plans
with MPs also debating an e-petition with more than 148,000 signatures calling to keep the current inheritance tax exemptions for working farms
The UK currently produces around 60% of its food – meaning that two in five products are imported from other countries
famers are expecting this number to rise more
Laura's a farmer from Northamptonshire
She said: "We got a dozen through the first set of gates
Laura's among farmers who joined the protest
which is said to include part of their friend's land
The focus of today's visit by Sir Kier Starmer was to discuss the plans for towns gaining new homes
Each new town will have the potential for 10,000 or more residential properties as the Government seeks to sweep away red tape and overcome environmental objections to get housing built
A separate project to push ahead with stalled housing projects has already unblocked 20,000 homes
the discussion was halted when a dozen farmers blocked the entrance to the site

Milton Keynes City Council has been slammed for failing to reveal a ‘proper timetable’ for the re-opening of a major through route that has been closed for four months longer than originally predicted
which leads from Newport Pagnell to junction 14 of the M1 motorway has been shut for 500 days – more than four months beyond the original one-year plan
When it was closed for construction work to take place on the massive MK East development site in September 2023
commuters and residents were told it would re-open in September 2024
and with no clear timeline as to when the road will once again be in use
local Lib Dem councillors are demanding urgent answers
councillors discovered that no set timetable for a re-opening has been confirmed
They also heard that the City Council has not applied any financial penalties from the contractors working on the MK East development site
“The delay was due to a change of management and the new management had to get up to speed,” said Jane Carr
“They also had to get a school and a medical centre in there to continue to receive Government funding for the project
“We were also told that part of the delay is due to the weather
Now I’m not a weather expert but I know the rain is going to come and that has to be factored in
Some of their predictions for managing the water there were a little on the short side.”
Councillor Carr says the delays have created months of inconvenience
extra fuel use and increased carbon emissions for commuters
and hardship for Newport Pagnell businesses
“It certainly has been affecting local people,” she said
I know of one business that is losing £10,000 a month because of this
“We just want it finished; people are totally fed up with it
We want to see a proper timetable and then the management held to that timetable.”
The new section of road will feature a ‘dog-leg’ junction and a roundabout through the new development but it will
bringing traffic from the north of the MK East development

Milton Keynes City Council has explained the reasons for the long delays in re-opening an important link road near Milton Keynes
This week MKFM told how a 500-day closure of the A509 section of road which leads from Newport Pagnell to junction 14 of the M1 motorway has brought prolonged misery to commuters while affecting shops and businesses in the area
MKCC councillors discovered recently that a timetable for the route’s re-opening was still not available despite an overrun of more than 120 days in construction work
Now Councillor Akash Nayee has told MKFM that bad weather and the sheer extent of the MK East project’s work is to blame for the hold-up
because of the severe weather conditions since the project started there have been some delays to the works,” said the Cabinet Member for Public Realm
“The A509 works are part of over £500 million of infrastructure improvements taking place to help enable the MK East development including new schools
a new health centre and a community centre
alongside works that will help better manage water and flooding in the local area
“We sympathise with local people on the inconvenience the works have caused and we are continuing to work
with the developers to ensure everything is being done as quickly as possible,” he added
we did not agree to the whole amount of additional time the developer requested and only permitted a three month extension as we recognise the impact on residents
“The delay is very unfortunate but given the scale and complexity of the project
completing such a major scheme even in the timescale involved
