Antrim v London (Saturday, Tir na nÓg, Randalstown, 1pm)
ANTRIM can book their place in the Ulster junior decider with victory over London on Saturday.
The Saffrons, who are favourites for the provincial title, took a big step towards securing their final berth after last week’s 4-12 to 1-6 win over Derry.
This is an historic game, with London entering the Ulster championship for the first time, and they will be keen to show they are not taking part just to make up the numbers.
They will not be unfamiliar with their opposition. London have met Antrim on many occasions throughout the years and likewise Derry, who they will face next week in what could be a winner-takes-all scenario, should Antrim win today, leaving the final round-robin game a shoot-out between the Oak Leafs and the Exiles for that other place in the final.
Antrim have not yet tasted defeat in 2025, having come through all seven rounds of the league unbeaten before clinching the Division Four title with a final win over Fermanagh and then getting their championship season off to a winning start against Derry.
They were very impressive that day, hitting their opponents for two goals in the opening minutes and taking control thereafter. Joint-managers Chris Scullion and Mickey Devlin will look for their players to hit the ground running again.
Antrim’s ability to have a spread of scorers has been impressive, Theresa Mellon, Maria O’Neill, captain Bronagh Devlin, Lara Dahunsi, Laura Agnew and Nicole Jones are all scoring threats, meaning the London defence will have to be on their toes.

A proposal was given the go-ahead at a meeting of the borough council’s Planning Committee at Mossley Mill
Proposed works include drainage improvements
new security fencing and an extension for waste electrical goods and glass storage
Three neighbouring properties were informed of the council’s development plans
“The planning history on the application site has established the use of the site as a waste disposal facility with the site currently operating as a civic amenity site.”
The council owns and has operated the site
which has an annual throughput of 25,000 tonnes
the site accepts a wide range of materials
The application does not propose any changes to waste types
The proposal includes drainage improvement works and areas of surface repair
The report notes that the site occupies “a relatively isolated position within this rural area with no residential properties along any of its boundaries”
conditions will restrict lighting between 11pm and 7am
“The development is considered to be visually integrated into the surrounding landscape and the design and appearance of the proposal is found to be acceptable
The development would not cause a detrimental change to the rural character of the surrounding area
“It is considered that the existing road network can safely handle the vehicular traffic the proposal will generate and adequate access arrangements
parking and manoeuvring areas are provided as part of the proposal.”

2025 at 6:00am BSTThe latest British government attempts to conceal the complicity of state agencies in the murder of Sean Brown will be seen by many for what they are
For the past 28 years the state has done all in its power to ensure the full circumstances of the GAA clubman’s murder remain hidden
beaten and abducted as he locked the gates at Bellaghy Wolfe Tones GAC in May 1997
he was then taken to a country lane outside Randalstown
State agents - recruited by law enforcement agencies and paid from the public purse - were involved in the sectarian killing.
At every turn agencies of the state, including the RUC and PSNI, have placed obstacles in the way of the Brown family.
Part of their cruel strategy has been to play for time in the misplaced hope that their resolve, and that of others impacted by their deeds during the Troubles, will be tamed.
The contempt of state bodies is reserved not only for relatives of the dead.
It emerged last year that former Police Ombudsman Nuala O’Loan, who reported on the Brown case in 2004, was not told of the involvement of agents.
Mrs O’Loan later said that had she known she might have “produced a very different report”.
On around 60 occasions members of the Brown family have travelled from their south Derry homes to various courts in Belfast in search of the truth.
Finally, a breakthrough came last year when a High Court judge, sitting as a coroner produced a brief gist, or summary, revealing just some of the shocking details around Mr Brown’s murder.
Patrick Kinney said that a public inquiry should be held and wrote to the then Tory Secretary of State Chris Heaton-Harris.
The inquest, which was abandoned as the introduction of the legacy act loomed, also revealed that a suspect in the murder was believed to be a serving member of the Royal Irish Regiment.
Another held a personal protection weapon and was regularly visited by a police officer at his home.
It is now known that an RUC surveillance operation on Mark ‘Swinger’ Fulton, a notorious Mid Ulster LVF member, was halted the night before the murder and picked up again the following morning.
The British government later launched a retrospective judicial review of the decision by Mr Kinney, to provide his damning gist.
Last year another High Court judge ordered that a public inquiry should be held after a case was taken by Mr Brown’s 87-year-old widow Bridie.
The British government then appealed that decision and last month a three-judge panel gave Mr Benn four weeks to consider his response.
Earlier this week he confirmed he has asked the court for more time and sought leave to take the case to the Supreme Court in London.
It later emerged that Mr Benn briefed selected members of the media of his decision before Mrs Brown was made aware.
While the Court of Appeal dismissed the British government’s application on Friday, it put a stay on the operation of the mandatory order until Mr Benn’s legal team return to the court next month.
Earlier this week the Labour MP offered sympathetic words to the Brown family and said he is committed to “ensuring that there is a full, thorough and independent” investigation into the murder.
His honeyed words are now being put to the test as he considers his final response to the court.
In reality though nationalists, those that need a reminder, are likely to find that both Labour and the Tories have common cause when it comes to hiding state involvement in the murder of Catholics in the north during the years of conflict.

drawing criticism from South Antrim MP Robin Swann and local stakeholders
its rollout has led to confusion and frustration due to inadequate signage
Robin Swann MP expressed his disappointment over the chaotic start to the works
“I welcomed the resurfacing works announced by the Infrastructure Minister for the Staffordstown Road in Randalstown
that the commencement of this work on Thursday 27th March led to unnecessary challenge and disruption for local businesses
“I have been told of signage being put up incorrectly and roads closed with little prior notice.”
He added that his office has reached out to the Department of Infrastructure and spoken with section engineers in the Northern Division to mitigate further impact
“My office has contacted the Department of Infrastructure and have spoken to section engineers within Northern Division to try to ensure local businesses don’t suffer any further,” he said
a local attraction still recovering from the aftermath of Storm Éowyn
contacted both Mr Swann and Councillor Stewart Wilson to voice his concerns about the impact of the roadworks
“We passed our big zoo inspection after only just recovering from Storm Éowyn to be again hit with yet another disaster
this time from the Roads Service,” Mr Gibb explained
“The road closure looks like the entire road is closed and people are turning away
The diversions take you around the road closure
but the layout gives the impression that there is no access to World of Owls.”
Mr Gibb recounted several incidents that highlighted the scale of the disruption
“Two members of our voluntary staff were also turned around
we had elderly visitors that followed the diversion signs from World of Owls
only then to be looped around at Toome and sent back down to where they started - nearly a 20-mile diversion to back to where they started
“We had a large group of American tourists wanting to visit us and got lost with the lack of diversion signs
so they gave up and went to another attraction
a community nurse was turned away and unable to make their house calls.”
he expressed worry about the future impact
“As much as I appreciate and welcome any road improvements
there are ways and means to avoid negative impacts
Easter is coming up; we anticipate that we will be busy
but this will definitely negatively affect us as people will see the signs and won’t come near us.”
Councillor Stewart Wilson echoed these concerns
noting the unfortunate timing for businesses like World of Owls
“I am disappointed by the additional challenges a local business has had to face due to this disruption
especially as it is just finding its feet in the aftermath of Storm Éowyn,” he said
“Whilst the resurfacing of the Staffordstown Road is long overdue and welcomed by the local residents that have contacted me
consideration should be given to other stakeholders who will inevitably be affected.”
has instead underscored the need for better planning and communication to balance progress with the needs of the community
local leaders and businesses are urging swift action to address the ongoing issues and prevent further economic fallout
A daughter of murdered GAA official Sean Brown has said her family feels “vindicated” after the Court of Appeal backed an order for a public inquiry to be held
affirmed a High Court ruling issued last year that a public inquiry should be held into the loyalist killing of Mr Brown
Friday’s case arose after the British government appealed last year’s High Court ruling.
Last month the Court of Appeal ruled the British government’s refusal to hold a public inquiry is “unlawful”.
The court also found it breaches Article Two obligations under the European Convention on Human Rights – which protect the right to life.
The court gave Labour Secretary of State Hilary Benn four weeks to “reflect upon the judgment”.
After an application this week, he has now been granted an extension until next month.
The British government has also signalled its intention to take the case to the Supreme Court in London.
After Friday’s hearing Mr Brown’s daughter Clare Loughran welcomed the ruling.
“We feel vindicated that we have completed the process here in this jurisdiction, and that the Lady Chief Justice and the Court of Appeal has not upheld the Secretary of State’s decision on not giving us a public inquiry,” she said.
Last month Mr Brown’s 87-year-old widow Bridie pleaded with Mr Benn not force her to go to London.
Mrs Loughran said her family’s position is unchanged.
“My mother stood in front of these microphones four weeks ago and appealed to the Secretary of State not to have to make her go to London, and that remains our position,” she said.
“She’s an elderly lady. We have fought very long and very hard to try and get to the end point of this, which is that public inquiry to get to that truth. And that’s all we want at this stage.”
The campaigning daughter made a fresh appeal to Mr Benn.
“We really appeal again to the Secretary of State. I appeal on my behalf, on behalf of my mother, to please do the right thing,” she said.
“Do not take us to London. Do not take this to the Supreme Court. Do not drag this out any longer.”
The Brown family solicitor Niall Murphy, of KRW Law, said the “position is now crystal clear”.
“The Secretary of State has a binary choice: either comply with the law or continue to break the law,” he said.
“And, as a society, we should all hope that those who make our laws will not be those who will now break our laws.”
A large crowd of supporters greeted the Brown family as they arrived at the High Court on Friday, including First Minister Michelle O’Neill, her party leader Mary Lou McDonald and SDLP assembly member Patsy McGlone.
Ms O’Neill urged the British government to “get on with it”.
“Have some degree of decency and stop putting Bridie Brown through this day and daily.”
Mr McGlone was critical of the British government’s direction of travel.
“To try to drag Bridie Brown to London for a Supreme Court hearing all so they can protect the dark forces in state agencies who helped carry out this murder should shame this government,” she said.
“It flies totally in the face of their obligations under the European Convention on Human Rights.”
Irati Oleaga, of Relatives for Justice, paid tribute to Mrs Brown.
“Bridie’s quiet resilience has become a symbol of unwavering truth in the face of relentless denial,” he said.
“Her dignity continues to outshine the government’s obstructionism.”

A GOAL from Caoimhe Carey in the fourth minute in MUSA was the key score that sent St Benedict’s on to collect the trophy for the first time.
Carey went on to record four goals, two in each half, her presence on the edge of the area a problem that Our Lady’s couldn’t solve.
St Benedict’s built on that early goal and led by 2-4 to 0-0 at the break, with Carey’s second goal coming seconds before the half-time whistle. Brenna Bonnes, Shauna McCann, Brógan Graham and goalkeeper Clodagh McLarnon all stood tall for the winners.
Castleblayney got going early in the second half with two points from the excellent Kiera McLaughlin, but St Benedict’s just needed to grab the odd score here and there to stay in front.
Shauna McCann’s long through ball was forced over the line for Carey to complete her hat-trick in the 48th minute and the other two goals came within a couple of minutes of the end, the last scored by Caoimhe McCann.
St Benedict’s C Carey 4-0; C McCann 1-0; A Rankin 0-2; B Graham, B Bonnes & E Neeson 0-1 each
Sciath Bhríde final (camogie) St Joseph’s, Donaghmore v Gaelcholáiste Dhoire (Thursday, MUSA, 11am)
THIS will be the first appearance of Gaelcholáiste Dhoire in a Sciath Bhríde final – although they were part of the Gleann na Ró combined team (with St Mary’s Limavady), that won the 2018 title with victory over Dean Maguirc, Carrickmore in the final.
Another Tyrone school – St Joseph’s, Donaghmore – stands in their way of collecting the Shield in their own right.
The Gaeilgeoirí will go into the decider as favourites after comprehensive knock-out victories over Coláiste Feirste and St Malachy’s, Castlewellan across the Halloween break.
The team is dominated by the Slaughtneil club, with no fewer than a dozen likely to start against Donaghmore. They include captain Niamh Nig Uiginn, who was selected on the Ulster schools’ All-Star team last month, one of the youngest players ever to make the squad. Niamh operates from midfield alongside club-mate Saorla Ní Cheallaigh.
Others to watch out for are defenders Erin Nic Giolla Domhnaigh and Mairéad Ni hAgáin, while up front Ríonach Ní Chearnaigh and Dungiven’s Odharnait Nic an Bhaird are the players to note.
St Joseph’s had closer games, against Buncrana schools and St Clare’s, Ballyjamesduff, on their way to the final.
They trailed Ballyjamesduff by 0-4 to 0-1 at half-time, but levelled on the re-start with a goal from Grace Dean. Then Clare McKee’s goal 20 minutes into the second half sealed a six-point victory in a low-scoring semi-final.
The Convent team is drawn from a number of feeder clubs, notably Naomh Treasa, Eglish and Brocagh, and have improved as they have progressed through the competition.
Players An Gaelcholáiste need to watch include Eglish pair Niamh Donaghy and Hollie Stinson in defence and the midfield pairing of Clare McKee and Aoibhe Kerr, while Ellie Gormley carries a goal threat.
However, Gaelcholáiste have coasted through the competition and it will be a surprise if they slip up in the final.

2024 at 5:30pm BSTA Co Antrim brewery is breaking new ground in the Irish drinks scene with a new range of complex barrel-aged beers
Get ‘Er Brewed co-founder Johnathan Mitchell said the latest range from their Randalstown operation bridges the gap between beer and wine
The ‘Our Brewery’ range will be presented in a special wine and food pairing event at Sleepy Hollow Restaurant in Newtownabbey next week
Jonathan and his wife and partner Deborah Mitchell have been prominent figures in the north’s craft brewery scene for more than a decade
Their business story started with home brewing kits in the attic of their Antrim home
“We increasingly found it difficult to get access to ingredients,” recalled Jonathan
“So we set up a small e-commerce web shop selling ingredients to home brewers only.”
From selling ingredients and small kits to home brewers
‘Get ‘Er Brewed’ grew into an operation that now supplies hundreds of tonnes of malt to breweries and distilleries from a site outside Randalstown
Their business also supplies and installs turn-key commercial brewing kits
with their work on display in two of Belfast’s best-known brew-pubs
The couple also brew their own range of core beers under the ‘Our Brewery’ brand
the award-winning range is available in Tesco and in select hospitality venues around the north
The ‘Our Brewery’ range has now expanded with the Mitchell’s most ambitious products to date
brewed from the kit on display in their own Randalstown showroom
“I have a passion for spontaneous and wild styles of beer
let’s put the showroom into operation,” said Jonathan
The beer has been brewed using unique and wild processes with premium quality ingredients and aged for years in oak foeders and barrels that previously held red wine
Jonathan said the result is some really impressive complexity
patience and attention to detail,” he said
“We wanted them to age for a couple of years in the oak and allow the development of really complex flavours
just letting nature and the environment around the brewery effect the quality of the ingredients we use and then use them in these beautiful oak foeders.”
After 27 months in oak and four months in champagne bottles
the first batch has just gone out to trade customers
But next week will see the range presented to beer enthusiasts in a curated six course menu at Sleepy Hollow restaurant
where each course will be matched with a beer
“This is premium quality liquid,” added Jonathan
“If someone likes the complexity of premium quality wine
He said one of the beers has been based on a Lithuanian recipe
“That beer has got such lovely velvety flavours and textures to it
rum notes in it… It’s just not like anything you will have tried in the beer format
“It’s definitely something that’s totally different and something to enjoy at a special moment.”
