The proposed building is set to serve as a clubhouse for the court There are 17 objections listed on Rossendale Council’s website so far- with most of the concerns being centered around noise There is a worry the games will be disruptive to other park users and people living close to the park People have also objected on the grounds the noise from the padel would distress the many dogs that walk in the park each day is becoming increasingly popular in the UK and is a hybrid of tennis and squash The proposed hours of operation are Monday to Sunday 7am until 10pm One full-time and two part-time jobs will be available and the site will feature two doubles courts and one singles court The plans stated: “PadelParcs have been liaising with the council to bring the community facility to Whitaker Park and were advised to complete this application for the installation of the temporary Portakabin.” Residents said the multi-use games area is used well and daily by children They added if the plans were to be approved it would mean children would lose access to the only safe area where they could play basketball and football with one person calling this possibility a ‘crying shame’ people are concerned about the increase of anti-social behaviour if the facility was to be taken away submitted their objections which can be viewed on the council’s website Their letter reads: “The suggested site is right next to our garden It is bad enough that we have to suffer the noise and bad language from the all-weather pitch without this proposal as well “The idea it will be a clubhouse indicates food and drink and noise will be involved which will be bad enough - but no toilet facilities have been considered We are used to the shrubberies being used as toilets The couple also raised concerns over an increase in smoking and in the number of vehicles travelling to the park it is likely to encourage an increase in smoking What the council don’t know is the number of times I have had to put out fires in the shrubbery from fag-ends setting light to undergrowth “I am also very concerned that this will encourage an increase in the number of vehicles that decide to come and park nearby This still happens because the paths are not blocked off effectively at all times.” Park-users say they feel Padel Tennis would be better suited to the sports centres such as the Adrenaline Centre or Marl Pits Objection documents reveal there are already paid tennis courts at Whitaker Park which are not as frequently used as before when they were free of charge Residents added not as many youths will be able to use the court because it will most likely have gates that charge money like the tennis courts Rossendale Council and PadelParcs were contacted for comment Subscribe to our daily newsletter LANCS LIVE NEWS and get all the biggest stories from across Lancashire direct to your inbox Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right along with water carriers from Buxton and Clay Cross The Mountain Rescue drone team and National Highways were also in attendance Firefighting continued late into the evening until darkness with fire crews and partners returning to the area this morning (Friday 11 April) to continue tackling the fire which involved approximately 4,000 square metres of woodland and conifer Fire crews remain on scene as work gets underway to remove the firefighting equipment that has been supporting firefighting operations Everyone working to resolve the fire has also been supported by the Salvation Army "One crew remain at the scene handing the incident over the National Trust colleagues "The RSPB and National Trust will remain in attendance to work on the area "We'd like to thank all our partner agencies and the public for their help and patience while we tackled this fire." with supporting crews using beaters and blowers "The public are being asked to continue to avoid the area."
