warm smiles and a day tailor-made made for running
Fantastic conditions awaited participants at Seaford Beach parkrun this morning
setting the perfect scene for another wonderful event
while the bright sun climbed steadily into the sky
cool temperatures and sparkling sea created an almost postcard-perfect backdrop for runners
gathering the excited crowd together on the promenade
Runners listened attentively as all the key points for the day’s event were covered
highlighting some very special moments we were about to celebrate
A huge round of applause then rippled through the crowd as we gave a well-deserved shout-out to our volunteers
from setting up and marshalling to timekeeping and barcode scanning
commitment and friendly smiles create the heartbeat of Seaford Beach parkrun
and they deserved every bit of the warm appreciation they received
This morning also saw us celebrate some truly impressive milestones
recognising the amazing contributions of two of our regular volunteers
Lou reached a phenomenal 200 volunteer credits
a milestone that reflects an extraordinary level of dedication and countless hours of giving back to our parkrun community
Darren was celebrated for earning his 150th volunteer credit
another amazing achievement showing just how vital our volunteer teams are in keeping parkrun running smoothly
While there were no additional running milestones today
the focus turned to something equally exciting — pacer day
With so many pacers out on the course today
and with conditions as favourable as they were
it felt like the perfect opportunity to chase down a PB
Whether participants were hunting for a new personal record or just looking to enjoy a steadier
today’s atmosphere was buzzing with potential
there was one final and important reminder: please
please return your finish tokens after you cross the line
These little tokens are vital for logging your result and making sure everyone gets their rightful time
they’re a shared part of the event and we need them back every week to keep things running smoothly for everyone
the countdown was called out with enthusiasm
accompanied by an excited energy that filled the air
laughter and the sound of steady footsteps created the unmistakable soundtrack of another Seaford Beach parkrun getting underway
The wonderful running conditions helped lift everyone’s spirits as they made their way along the promenade
flanked on one side by the glistening sea and on the other by the friendly waves and encouragement from the marshals
the cooling breeze and the sunshine all combined to make every step feel that little bit easier
As participants approached the historic Martello Tower
There’s always something special about reaching the Martello — it’s a visual reminder that you’re making great progress
with the sun overhead and the community atmosphere in full flow
participants pushed toward the turnaround point
where a quick loop back meant they were now on the return leg
just 2.5km away from completing another parkrun
The encouragement from the marshals and pacers at this point was fantastic
providing an extra surge of energy for those tackling the second half of the course
Once again passing the Martello Tower on the return journey
the finish line could almost be glimpsed on the horizon
combined with the positive energy from marshals and fellow runners
The atmosphere was electric and you couldn’t help but feel lifted by it
As the participants pressed on toward the finisher funnel
the atmosphere of the day continued to shine through
helping to fend off any fatigue and allowing runners
joggers and walkers to maintain their rhythm all the way to the line
encouragement and shared determination made it a truly special morning
jog or happy stroll towards the line began
Crossing the finish line today brought a real sense of achievement; another parkrun complete
another Saturday morning made memorable and another opportunity to be part of something wonderful at Seaford Beach
A heartfelt thank you must go to our incredible organisers
volunteers and marshals who work so hard to bring us our weekly dose of parkrun magic
From setting up the course to recording our times and cheering us home
and we are truly grateful for all the hard work you put in week after week
A special well done must also go to our fantastic pacer team
who were out in force today helping participants hit their target times or achieve their PB dreams
Whether you were running with a goal in mind or simply enjoying the support of running alongside someone at a particular pace
the pacer team made a huge difference to many people’s mornings
a huge congratulations to every single person who made their way to Seaford Beach today
you played a part in making today’s event the success that it was
You are what makes this parkrun community so special
Congratulations once again to everyone — enjoy the rest of your weekend
and we can’t wait to see you back at Seaford Beach very soon for another fantastic morning by the sea

Thank you to William Antcliff for this week's report..
William from central London at my southernmost parkrun in the UK to date; Seaford Beach
I visited Seaford as part of the UCL Hiking Club’s day out along the Seven Sisters over to Eastbourne
but given they weren’t scheduled to arrive at Seaford until 10am
that gave me ample time to squeeze a parkrun in
when I checked the weather forecast the night before and it said rain was scheduled for only 9am and no other time
at least my hike with UCL would be safe and given that it was 22km all day
I think when I first saw the title of this parkrun
I had wondered if it was one of those where you run entirely on sand
I am so glad it wasn’t given how things turned out
I caught the 7am train from London Bridge and steadily made my way down to the coast
It’s a relatively simple journey I’m sure many of the locals here at Seaford have done
just with a crazy quick changeover at Lewes - four minutes to cross from one side of the surprisingly large station to the other
It was literally as soon as I got off at Bishopstone that the rain came in
but then gradually it picked up… and up… and up
I don’t need to tell anyone who was there on Saturday morning how bad it got; I think the puddles on the promenade floor and the fact that the volunteers had sought refuge behind the random digger spoke for themselves
Why did I not choose the train times which would have seen me arrive exactly on time
including a few who had never attended parkrun before
I just hope you don’t go away thinking they’re all that miserable
And I’m sure that Seaford Beach is beautiful beneath a bright blue sky and in the early morning sun
I was told I and one (?) other from Johannesburg were the only visitors
but I have a feeling there may have been a few others - it was nice to get a shout out
We did get lucky in the end as the rain suddenly stopped
I hadn’t de-layered so I did this run with the full shirt
It didn’t take more than a couple hundred meters to see
Shortly after I stepped in a camouflage puddle
so wet feet the entire way down and back up
that’s exactly why a small towel became part of my parkrun kit
this was a fun run with surprisingly good conditions
But I do wish I had been one of the attendees who hid in their cars until the start-gun fired
I’d like to give a shout out to the volunteers and other runners
Not a single person that I saw or spoke to seemed to let the awful weather bring the mood down and that is not easy when it’s as bad as it was
for holding the fort together and allowing me to write up your report for this week
but I elected to abort my original plan of walking along the promenade to Seaford Station and instead met my UCL crew at Bishopstone
This gave me the opportunity to change peacefully and chat to a small group of runners
it’s one of the main reasons why I travel to different parkruns
they didn’t make the train with me - I should mention that we had 200+ students on the tiny three-car train
I barely squeezed on and I don’t think they fancied that cramped shuttle experience
Seaford Striders Running Club welcomed valued member
As someone who only started running eight years ago
we wanted to catch up with Victoria to talk about her journey into Seaford Striders and find out more about how she became chair.
The club was formed back in 1986 by Glynis and Bill Young and will soon mark its 40th anniversary
Seaford Striders pride themselves on their welcoming environment and strong community spirit which is something that encouraged Victoria to become a member of the club
Victoria did not feel as though she fit the runner stereotype:
“I guess if you’ve not been part of a running club
you have a mental picture of what a typical member would look like – young
There were Seaford Striders who were young
athletic and healthy but at no time did they make me feel inferior
In reality there isn’t a typical running club member; I have found it to be so inclusive.”
Victoria’s journey started from a Facebook post she saw for Seaford Striders’ Couch to 5K (C25K) programme
She told us; “After much consideration I very nervously went along
but decided to join Seaford Striders straight away so I had to keep going
The support from the club throughout C25K was amazing – non-judgemental and totally encouraging
Completing the “graduation” parkrun felt fantastic – I was hooked!”
Since making the decision to become a part of the club
Victoria told us that it has transformed her life physically
“It has given my life structure and real purpose
I have met so many wonderful inspirational people and I have achieved things that I thought were impossible
I can push myself and smash those PBs but I can also really enjoy social running with coffee and cake afterwards."
Victoria was given the opportunity to do our Learning in Running Fitness (LiRF) training with her club which is where her enjoyment for being a group leader began
She told us that seeing people progress with their running brings her a lot of joy and she now regularly leads a group every Wednesday
From then her journey through committee has progressed;
“After completing C25K I wanted to give something back to the club which had helped me achieve the impossible so when I was asked in 2018 if I might take on the role of Club Secretary I agreed
In 2022 I took on the new role of Vice Chair
It was a big decision whether or not to step up to the role of Chair
but I received a lot of encouragement to take it on
It is not an easy role but there are so many positives
and I am so lucky to be surrounded by enthusiastic and competent committee members.”
committee positions can be a stressful volunteer role to have
Victoria expressed that sometimes decisions have to be made that not everyone will agree with but as a committee you do what is best for the club.
“Seaford Striders is a big club with just under 400 members. Inevitably there will be different viewpoints and comments may be made that don’t go down well. Our welfare team have been pivotal in reaching conclusions and it has been reassuring to have the England Athletics Club Support team in the background
When we have reached out to England Athletics
we have received great help and support.”
Club Standards are pivotal in ensuring volunteers and members of a club are protected and supported within their club
Victoria told us how Club Standards have supported Seaford Striders and assured her as club chair:
“Club Standards provide a very helpful framework under which to operate
we know that if we meet the England Athletics Club Standards then all the essentials are in place which is particularly reassuring for me as Club Chair
Our committee is constantly facing new challenges which we work through together
All new committee members are directed to the England Athletics website for their roles
this is included in their induction process.”
We asked Victoria if she had any advice for people who
are feeling unsure about joining a club.
I know not all running clubs are the same and I will be biased towards Seaford Striders
but we get so many of our new members after they have seen how we interact at events - all our Striders are awesome
they are a great introduction to the running community and the results will tell you a lot about the inclusivity of the local running clubs.”
If you have a been inspired by Victoria’s story and are interested in finding a club near you, click the link below. Or if you are still not ready to take the leap to a club, why not try our individual running membership, RUN:EA, to help you take that next step in your running journey.

The store was put on the market due to the previous owner’s retirement, and attracted high levels of interest with multiple offers received. A new lease for Seaford News has been sold to a group of first time buyers who plan to continue running the business and adding some additional product lines.
James Matson, Associate Director – Retail at Christie & Co who handled the process, said: “The business generated a great deal of interest from the market, receiving multiple offers. We expect the new owners will continue to provide a high level of service to the local community.”

Thanks to Helen O'Sullivan for this week's great report
What better way is there to start Easter Saturday than a trip to Seaford Beach Parkrun
and bunny hopped their way along a windy prom on the way out
whilst making full use of an eggtastic tail wind on the way home
Myself (tinks) and thirty-two runners/walkers from local club Hailsham Harriers made it a morning to remember for one of our runners as he celebrated his 250th Parkrun milestone
Norman Harris or as we call him ‘Lord Norman’ (we clubbed together to buy him a Lordship last year) has been a huge
valuable part of our running club for close to forty golden years
representing the club in many ways from secretary to press reporter to running coach
Over the past few years Lord Norman has faced a few medical setbacks which have knocked his running confidence but through sheer determination
a sensible head and encouragement from fellow club mates and the invaluable parkrun community
At the young age of 75 he very much continues to encourage and inspire others and we felt both honoured and very proud to head to Seaford Beach Parkrun – a parkrun close to his heart
to share and shout from the roof-tops his fantastic milestone achievement
black and red vests and the teary eyes as Lord Norman crossed the finish line to whoops of delight with a surprise appearance from his beautiful wife Sue
We were also the ones who turned up with more cake than a cake shop
and we hope that some of you reading this got to sample these amazing celebratory delights
A big thank you to all the egg-ceptional marshals
pacers and volunteers and a big bunny shout-out to the 52 first-timers at Seaford Beach including 10 first-time ever parkrunners: George Millington
Congratulations to all 57 finishers who achieved eggtraordinary shiny new personal bests and to those that shell-ebrated parkrun milestones alongside Lord Norman: Eddie Casselden 100
It’s no yolk that Parkrun really does have the power to change lives

Congratulations Ed on your 100th volunteering milestone - and thank you for this week's report
When I first volunteered as a marshal at Seaford Beach parkrun on 4th May 2019 I definitely didn’t expect to be reflecting on achieving the 100 volunteer credits milestone less than six years later
I wanted to write this report both to thank everyone in Seaford Beach parkrun community for making it the best way to spend a Saturday morning however you’re participating
but even more so to advocate for volunteering and to recommend getting involved in any and all of the roles at parkrun
I’ve done several of the full-time roles and have found that being a marshal is especially good for the banter with everyone participating and time keeping is great if you enjoy the immense pressure and responsibility (only joking
I can honestly say it’s surprisingly easy and enjoyable having done it 13 times)
what I really want to highlight is the huge variety roles you can do that still allow you to walk
You might not realise you can do these but doing any one of them hugely helps the team on the day
I’ve earned just over half of my credits helping with barcode scanning after running
token sorting (which you can now do in the newly re-opened Newhaven & Seaford Sailing Club café)
pacing (my absolute favourite role is being the 20 minute pacer) or even writing the report as I’m doing here and is an especially good one when you’re a tourist at a new parkrun location
I must admit that I also have a cheeky ambition to one day run with the finish tokens and be quick enough that I can hand them all out afterwards
I’d like to recognise the other 26 volunteers at this event: David Bradshaw
Fawzia Whittuck and most of all Alison Moore who came over from Eastbourne to celebrate the milestone by volunteering as a marshal and was definitely not in any way bribed by a family-size pack of Reese’s chocolate and peanut butter cups…
We also had a fantastic 260 finishers (I’m still confident that our record of 347 finishers at what was just our 8th event in April 2019 is finally broken this summer!) and that number included welcoming 38 first timers and celebrating an extraordinary 44 new PBs
including our volunteer tail walker Billy Moakes
Special thanks to everyone who gave me a shout out during the event and while barcode scanning afterwards
and to Neil Thomas and Magdalena Schoerner for joining me for the occasion
See you at the next one; I’m off now to buy an excessive amount of 100 volunteer milestone merch from the parkrun shop…
Thanks to Neil Thrower for another great run report
Seaford Beach parkrun report - Saturday 25th January 2025 | Event no
It was another fantastic morning at Seaford Beach parkrun
as is tradition on the last Saturday of the month
The atmosphere was buzzing with energy as runners
joggers and walkers gathered to take part in this beloved event
With pacers on hand to help participants achieve their personal bests or guide them through the course
it was a day filled with motivation and good vibes
Pacer day always adds an extra layer of excitement and encouragement to an already buzzing parkrun community
there were excellent numbers gathered at the promenade
Seaford Beach was alive with activity as people of all ages assembled to take on the 5k challenge
Whether participants were chasing a New Year’s resolution
looking to improve their times or simply enjoying a morning run by the sea
The sense of community that defines Seaford Beach parkrun was clearly evident
families arrived together and newcomers were warmly welcomed
Fantastic conditions greeted the runners this morning
Although a slight January chill lingered in the air
offering a helpful push along sections of the course
Coupled with the dazzling winter sun casting its glow over the waves
it was a morning that showcased Seaford Beach at its best
these conditions made for an enjoyable and rewarding run
helping participants to stay focused and inspired as they moved along the stunning route
Adding to the festive atmosphere was a mini takeover from Lewes Rugby Club
Their players and supporters brought a lively energy to the event
decked out in their rugby gear and ready to give the 5k their best shot
as well as a barbecue on the beach - can’t knock that
It was wonderful to see such a strong showing from the club and their presence highlighted how parkrun continues to welcome so many participants
from seasoned athletes to those trying something new
the morning began with a special welcome briefing
offering guidance about the course and what to expect
Against the soothing backdrop of the sea waves gently crashing on the shore
these new participants were introduced to the inclusive and supportive ethos of Seaford Beach’s parkrun
It was a moment of calm before the energy of the run
and the perfect way to ease any nerves and set the tone for a positive experience
As participants gathered for the main briefing
there was a strong sense of togetherness in the air
visitors from other parkruns were made to feel at home
receiving warm applause and smiles from the Seaford Beach regulars
as individuals were recognised for their impressive achievements
These moments of celebration remind everyone of the personal journeys that underpin parkrun and the sense of achievement that comes with being part of this community
The pacers received a much-deserved shoutout during the announcements
as their presence was key to helping participants achieve their goals
There was a buzz of excitement as people adjusted their watches
exchanged last-minute words of encouragement and mentally prepared for the challenge ahead
it was almost time to set off on the morning’s adventure
and participants surged forward along the promenade
their footsteps echoing along the path as the winter sun glinted off the waves
Each person was driven by their own motivation
enjoying the fresh coastal air or simply completing the course
The beauty of parkrun is that every individual’s journey is celebrated
and the start line buzz captured this perfectly
The route guided participants along the picturesque Seaford promenade
offering stunning views of the coastline and the surrounding landmarks
Passing Seaford Rugby Club and the historic Martello Tower
the course was as scenic as it was inviting
marking a satisfying milestone in the journey
It was time to switch directions and head back towards the finish line
with the breeze offering a cooling challenge on the return leg
The return journey was a test of determination and focus
as participants faced away from the winter sun and navigated the gentle incline along the promenade
The slightly elevated section of the course offered a brief challenge
spirits lifted as the finish line came into view
this final stretch was a chance to dig deep and find that last burst of energy
encouraged by the cheers of marshals and supporters lining the route
Crossing the finish line was a moment of triumph for every participant
As people filtered into the finisher funnel
there was a sense of accomplishment and pride
Conversations flowed as participants shared stories of their runs
compared times and reflected on their morning’s efforts
as the endorphins of completing the 5k created a collective buzz of positivity and achievement
whose efforts were instrumental in guiding participants to their target times
Whether aiming for a personal best or simply seeking consistency
the pacers provided invaluable support and encouragement along the way
Their contribution added an extra layer of motivation to the event
ensuring that everyone felt supported in their efforts
Gratitude also extends to the tail walker and parkwalker team
whose dedication to inclusivity and participation ensures that parkrun remains accessible to all
Their role is vital in creating a welcoming environment where everyone
volunteers and marshals who make parkrun possible each week
from setting up the course to cheering participants on
Congratulations to everyone who laced up their trainers and braved the January chill this morning
Whether it was your first parkrun or your hundredth
your efforts and enthusiasm were truly inspiring
Here’s to another fantastic week at Seaford Beach parkrun – see you all next time
Thanks to Peter Heath for this week's report
As a fan of parkrun tourism what I really enjoy about the Christmas and New Year period is that I get the chance to try 4 different parkruns in a very short period of time
This is what brought me to Seaford this Saturday
I enjoy a sea front parkrun and have done a number of them
They tend to be a nice out and back type course
and they tend to have nice views out over the sea
can have their own little quirks out on course
Seaford has a Martello Tower in the middle part of the route
they also have the potential to be hit with strong winds and driving rain...these were the conditions that 169 brave souls face on 21st December
Despite the wet and windy conditions the locals were very friendly and I had a nice conversation with a local who told me about the local running and other parkruns they'd done and places they'd visited
which included an appropriate amount of Christmas related puns
including an 'elf and safety' briefing we set off
it had all the potential to be a bit of slog
I really enjoyed the bracing nature of the conditions
The hi-viz heroes marshaling with vast amounts of enthusiasm despite the sodden
windy conditions around the course really helped to make it an enjoyable experience
The other noticeable thing on this wind swept morning was a chap juggling his way around the course
For those that aren't familiar with 'joggling' it may have appeared somewhat strange sight to behold
Scott Jenkins ended with an impressive finish time of 21:36 and dropping a ball once
it's hardy and cheery marshals and sea based vistas
Seaford Beach parkrun has done nothing to dull my enjoyment of a sea front parkrun course...even with those weather conditions
