The focus at Hillsborough will now switch to the question of whether Rohl will still be in charge next season. He said: “My picture is clear. The club knows my picture. And to continue, some ways, I think it’s important that for everyone it’s clear in which direction it goes. “I cannot say more about this. This is then also the responsibility from the club, in which direction and what we announce. But my picture is very clear. “If we got requests for players from a higher division, if you got requests for a manager from a higher division, I think you should all little bit proud of this journey, even as this feels not good and feels disappointment. “This is the outcome from good work, what we did in the last 18-19 months. I think at the end everyone deserves a clear picture now. This is the most important because the club is bigger than one person and we should do this in this direction.” Rohl has been pleased with his side’s progress this season. He added: “I think we finished fifth in the away table. I’m not sure. I think this is a big, big achievement. “I’m not sure how many games we lost away. It was not so much. We are always difficult to play against. I think this is a huge step. “If in the end you are 12th then you deserve this. For me it’s more about the development. When I took over we were bottom of the table. “This season we were never involved in relegation. The cup is more half full.” Watford manager Tom Cleverley was satisfied with his side’s display. He said: “I thought it was a strong performance, to be honest. We dominated the game for large spells, especially almost all the second half, and did more than enough to win the game. “I was really pleased with how much desire we showed to win the game in what was literally just a battle for 12th place. “I think you saw a lot of promise, a lot of players who were playing football in a way that’s entertaining.” Cleverley said the challenge now is to improve his side’s goal threat next term. He added: “We’ve not scored enough goals and we together have to realise that was a big part in why the play-off charge wasn’t sustained. “Now it’s for all of us to recognise why didn’t we sustain these these results and learn from that.” Facebook pageTwitter feedRSS feed@2025 The Irish News Ltd We use some essential cookies to make this website work We’d like to set additional cookies to understand how you use GOV.UK remember your settings and improve government services We also use cookies set by other sites to help us deliver content from their services You have accepted additional cookies. Chris Wilder doesn’t look especially impressed. 21 Apr 202519.57 CEST67 mins: A first chance for Rak-Sakyi to get involved, and he nicks the ball past Lucas Pires, who brings him down. Sheffield United free kick, on the corner of the penalty area. 21 Apr 202519.56 CEST66 mins: Burnley aren’t shutting up shop – Peck has to be alert to cut out a cross, before Fleming tries an awkward shot that bobbles through to Cooper. 21 Apr 202519.56 CEST65 mins: Jaidon Anthony carries the ball upfield, but Hamer gets back to regain possession. The clock is moving much slower in Burnley and Leeds than in Sheffield, I would wager. 21 Apr 202519.54 CEST63 mins: Esteve has been exceptional in the heart of Burnley’s defence; here, he gets across to deny Ahmedhodzic from Peck’s low cross. 21 Apr 202519.53 CEST61 mins: First change for Burnley, as Josh Laurent replaces Marcus Edwards. 21 Apr 202519.52 CEST59 mins: Tyrese Campbell and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi have come on. The corner is cleared downfield by Brownhill, who’s led by example today. 21 Apr 202519.50 CEST58 mins: Brereton Diaz has been quiet on the right side, but gets into the area here – only for Jaidon Anthony to back-track and stop him getting a shot away. United are making changes, Brereton Diaz and Cannon coming off. 21 Apr 202519.48 CEST56 mins: Roberts’ cross in towards Fleming is headed clear by Ahmedhodzic Blacklaw and all was the first team I ever saw live,” writes Iain Noble “Never saw a better side until Cruyff’s Netherlands and their total football “I can get the ITV coverage through a Fire Stick on my TV but I’m afraid to watch; this from someone who survived ‘The Orient Game’ but I’m getting too old for all the stress. "I thought there were moments in the game when we played quite well I thought we contained Sheffield well at times with our structure – they didn't cause us loads of issues "We always knew it was going to be a tough game out of possession and I thought we managed it quite well "Second half we tried to take the game to them and we had a lot of the ball We probably didn't quite cause them enough problems going forward – our moments needed to be cleaner and more decisive "The [first] goal took the momentum away when we still felt we could try to get something from the game then the second goal comes from a little error."
