NOTICEBOARD · 20 February 2025 MAJOR DEVELOPMENT: A new events hub will be part of the major development at the Market Place The final phase of Bolsover District Council’s investment in Shirebrook Government-awarded Regeneration Fund a series of preparatory works will take place within the Market Place as the transformation of the public realm recommences Beyond the remaining design work this will see adjustments to the electricity supply and the felling of trees along Victoria Street and Station Road as the Council prepares for the latest improvements to be implemented Bolsover District Council leader said: “We know that our town centres are the hearts of our local communities and that as a result the health and condition of our town centres is really important It is for this reason that the council has been committed to enhancing our town centres for many years investing in the preparation of improvement plans and seeking external funding to help us deliver them “It is always challenging to bring together sufficient funding for this kind of project but through our determination to deliver improvements for our communities we have convinced the new Labour Government to invest in Shirebrook through their Regeneration Fund.” Shirebrook market will continue during February and March as normal but with certain areas out of action to preserve public safety while they are being worked on the Market Place will become a working site and for public safety reasons the whole area will be cordoned off and become unavailable During this period alternative public toilets will be put in place prior to the existing public toilet block being no longer available However, Shirebrook Town Council wish to keep the market within the Market Place area to support the market traders is the case elsewhere in Derbyshire bus services from Market Street will be unaffected The temporary road closures will be formally advertised but as part of this local businesses will also be notified to enable them to plan accordingly to minimise disruption for their staff and customers The works are expected to run from April to September 2025 and will see the introduction of the events hub building new street furniture and bollards around the edge of the Market Place new cycle stands as well as the completion of the resurfacing of the Market Place “We acknowledge that the improvement works will cause disruption while they are taking place and that to a large degree this cannot be helped But we are working with Shirebrook Town Council to minimise the disruption and support the market traders and local businesses during the works this positive investment will allow us and Shirebrook Town Council to bring more events to the town centre to increase the number of visitors and to promote local shopping which will in turn see our local businesses benefit and strengthen the local community.” Powered by Grantham Journal, Rutland & Stamford Mercury, Spalding Guardian and Lincolnshire Free Press Home   Grantham   Sport   Article Harrowby completed a quick-fire double over Shirebrook Town after victory in Saturday's United Counties League clash. The Arrows had been 2-1 winners when the sides met a fortnight ago in a Premier Division North match at the JRL Brickwork Stadium. And they repeated the feat with victory by the same margin in Saturday's return meeting in Derbyshire after goals from Harrison Dee and Harvey Graves. Shirebrook are looking for points in their fight against relegation so Harrowby knew they would be in for another tough afternoon. They made the trip with Elliot King, Kemal Yeniberitz, Richard Kankam and Kegan Everington all missing from the matchday squad. Scott Floyd filled in to make a back three with skipper Lewis Marsh and Dee while Brima Diramy came into the attack to partner Harry Allcock and there was also a first start in goal for Yinka Abebowale following his return to the club. Harrowby had an early let-off in the first minute as Oliver Fearon broke free after a mistake in the Arrows defence. With just the keeper to beat, Abebowale forced the Shirebrook striker wide and then pulled off an outstanding save from the resultant shot to keep the scores level. Shirebrook are a big, physical team and Harrowby struggled in the aerial duels but soon started to use both Tom Harris and Issa Gaye to cause the home side problems. Shirebrook goalkeeper Mitchell Leivers made good saves from Zach Hill and Allcock before the Arrows took the lead. A corner from Jack Gurney fell to Dee who curled his shot into the top left hand corner for the opening goal. Harrowby managed the rest of the half well as they started to get on top with Marsh keeping the dangerous Fearon quiet. Allcock had a great chance to make it two early in the second when he went one-on-one with Leivers but the keeper did well to smother his shot. Harrowby were now looking dangerous going up the hill and Gurney and Allcock also had chances. As the game moved into the final 15 minutes, Shirebrook started pushing extra men forward and were particularly dangerous from corners but Harrowby stood firm with Abebowale's handling being solid throughout. Shirebrook went close to equalising from one set piece when Fearon hit the bar when well placed after some pinball in the Harrowby penalty area. The Arrows introduced Lord Marfo, Graves and David Kolapo to freshen things up and they doubled their lead late on. Leivers went up for a corner which Harrowby cleared and Gurney released Graves to run the ball into an empty net for his first goal since arriving from Lincoln United. Shirebrook did set up a frantic finale near the end when they scored from a corner through Bailey Morgan but the Arrows held on for a great three points which puts them mid-table on 39 points in their first season at step five football. They have a home game on Saturday against tenants Newark and Sherwood who ground-share with Harrowby at the JRL Brickwork Stadium. #comp-lvqlknop_r_comp-lwwdvtpl__item1 {aspect-ratio: 1;}The Plant BaseThe Plant Base is the go to B2B news platform for the plant-based food and beverage industry RefreshmentRefreshment is your ultimate resource for staying informed and up-to-date on the water cooler The Cell BaseThe Cell Base provides insights for professionals to stay informed exchange ideas and explore new cell-based opportunities SubscribeAccess more as a FoodBev subscriberSign up to FoodBev and unlock more insights from the international food and beverage industry.
