They started fighting and Godfrey became involved
kicking the victim on the face as she was on the ground
He then dragged her along the platform and threw her on to the live railway line

Cameron with his mum and dad and sister Jessica(Image: Contributed)A Shotts mum will head a 45-strong group taking part in this weekend’s Glasgow Kiltwalk to raise money for her four-year-old son who was recently diagnosed with a serious genetic condition
Natalie and Mark Winter were told in September last year that their son Cameron has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD)
leading to weakness and wasting away of the body’s muscles
Cameron is one of the youngest people in Scotland with the muscle-wasting disease that ultimately leads to disability and a shorter life span
the life expectancy of someone with DMD is around 30 years
The youngster gets physio every night and wears splints to bed
He is set to start school this year and at the moment is thriving in every way
He has reached every expected milestone but his mum and dad know that will change
Cameron is currently part of a clinical trial accessing Givinostat in Newcastle
a life-prolonging medication for a very rare disease
and possibly the only one in the UK involved in the trial
His parents want to raise awareness of the condition and let other families know that there is hope for children with DMD
Four-year-old Cameron Winter(Image: Contributed)Mum Natalie
said: “Cameron started nursery in January last year and it was them that picked up on it
He was a wee bit clumsy on his feet and was walking on his toes
He only leads with one leg and only does one stair at a time
and we just thought he was mimicking him because he was with him all the time
Cameron pictured on a visit to the hospital(Image: Contributed)“The health visitor came out the same week and referred him to physio and thought he had weak ankles but wanted a second opinion
They went out to the nursery and agreed with the nursery teachers and decided they would look into it further
The following week we got a diagnosis after a blood test
It was a devastating time but we’re positive and hopeful
with dad Mark(Image: Contributed)“Cameron is a massive superheroes fan and calls them his special muscles
Every time he goes for blood tests he asks if it’s going green
Natalie and Mark were told by specialists that the prognosis for young people with DMD is much more positive now compared to a decade or so ago
There are groundbreaking research trials for treatment and gene therapy but that can come at a huge cost
Duchenne’s can either be passed to a child through its mother or by spontaneous mutation
who also has one-year-old daughter Jessica
was relieved to find out that she is not a carrier
Mark and Natalie are determined to do all they can to ensure Cameron has a full and happy life ahead of him(Image: Contributed)A GoFundMe page was set up and Natalie decided to take part in the Kiltwalk’s 23-mile Mighty Stride
A total of 45 are leaving from The Marbles Club
on Sunday at 8.30am and amongst the others Natalie will be joined by include her school’s depute and three other colleagues
They will be returning home to Shotts around 7.30pm and will be welcomed by The Wee Shotts Piper and Cameron who will be giving out thank you bags filled with Scottish goodies
Natalie added: “There are some ground breaking research trials going on for Duchenne but like anything
Gene therapy is available in America but it costs £3million
If you can get a clinical trial then you only have to cover the other cost such as travel and accommodation
Cameron was diagnosed with DMD in September last year
aged three(Image: Contributed)“We are unsure what lies ahead for Cameron but we do need money now so that if we need to travel to London or America to see Duchenne specialists
as by mid to late teens he will be fully dependent on that
and we live in an up and downstairs house so we’ll need to convert our garage into a downstairs room for him
“We are really up against it but you’d do anything for your kids
Cameron loves the Hulk(Image: Contributed)“In September we were given the number for Great Ormond Street and phoned that day but Cameron will be too old for the trial as he will be five by then
and you need to be three or four years old
“Life has been completely turned upside down for us
The thing that we’re fighting for is for Cameron to live a happy life and gets chances like everyone else.”

A HOOD who plotted to murder a gym boss has been slashed in jail amid claims it was ordered by a hitman who killed Kevin ‘Gerbil’ Carroll
Neil Anderson
was targeted just days after he was transferred to notorious Shotts nick
Lyons gang assassin Paterson, who gunned down Daniel mob enforcer Carroll, 29, in a Glasgow car park in 2010, is said to be a powerful enforcer inside the Lanarkshire prison
Sources told how he orchestrates revenge attacks and exercises control over other caged mobsters
And it’s claimed the attack on Gillespie cartel crony Anderson was a message to that gang — formerly headed up by missing brothers Barry and James Gillespie
A source said: “Anderson was moved to Shotts recently and within days he was on the receiving end of a slashing
“It’s said he hands out free drugs and mobile phones to get other cons to do his dirty work on behalf of the Lyons gang
“The attack on Anderson was to show strength and let the Gillespie mob know who are top dogs.”
Anderson got 21 years for his part in the slaying of Gary More, 32, in Airdrie in 2018.

St Patrick's Primary in Shotts(Image: WSH])Education inspectors have published their latest report on a council-run primary school in Shotts
St Patrick’s Primary School received ratings of “good” in two categories
with the nursery class assessed as “satisfactory”
It was also agreed that the school has capacity to continue improvement without any need for further intervention
so no follow-up inspections will be made at this time
Strengths highlighted by inspectors included the positive learning environment thanks to effective leadership from the head and senior staff
The report states: “Staff know their children well as learners and identify gaps in their learning quickly
In a majority of lessons learning is set at different levels of difficulty
“Teachers use appropriate activities and tasks to meet the needs of most children
teachers use a range of resources and teaching approaches to motivate and engage children successfully
children have opportunities to develop their creativity and curiosity
explanations and share the purpose of the learning
This ensures that children understand what they are learning.”
The senior staff members also earned praise for their careful monitoring of progress made by all children
The children themselves were described as “confident
well behaved and proud of their school” while enjoying “respectful and warm” relationships across the community
Some recommended areas for improvement were identified and discussed with the head teacher and North Lanarkshire Council
The report added: Children and staff benefit from the strong partnership working with the local parish
These partnerships provide valuable support to the school community
learning experiences and understanding about the world of work are enhanced across the curriculum for all children
“Most teachers provide timely verbal feedback to children about their learning
This helps children to make improvements in their work
staff use praise and positive language to support children
“A few teachers provide effective written feedback to help children improve the quality of their work
Senior leaders should now ensure all teachers provide high quality feedback to support children to achieve their personal targets
“This will help children to make further progress across the curriculum.”
Inspectors would like to see improved approaches to learning and teaching
They suggested this could be achieved by giving staff more opportunities to share and learn from their experiences

A PRISON worker who was caught with class-A drugs after investigators discovered she was in a relationship with a gangster prisoner has been ordered to carry out unpaid work
Ashley Malloy, 33, worked as a carer at HMP Shotts, Lanarkshire
which houses some of the country's most notorious criminals
She was put under investigation after police received a tip-off that she was bringing illicit items into the maximum security facility
Detectives had information she was in a relationship with inmate John Mack
who was serving a four-year sentence for drug offences
Malloy's locker in a staff changing area was raided by officers in March last year who discovered cocaine with a street value of £1,200 and £400 worth of heroin in a bag
Mack's cell was searched and a mobile phone SIM card was discovered
appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court where she pled guilty to possessing the drugs while he admitted having the illicit SIM card
Sheriff John Hamilton KC ordered Malloy to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work and put her under supervision for 12 months
Mack was jailed for four months after the sheriff blasted his criminal record
The pair had originally faced allegations of supplying drugs inside HMP Shotts but the claims were dropped by prosecutors
"They attended Shotts with a search warrant and around 8am she was located in a staff preparation area which contains lockers and a place for people who work there to change
"In that room they found a small bag and she confirmed it belonged to her and when it was searched they recovered powder which was later confirmed as cocaine and heroin with a street value of £1,200 and £400."
The prosecutor added: "Because of what police had discovered in the bag
John Mack had his cell searched because there was information they were in a relationship
"During the search of his cell they found a SIM card."
The court heard dad-of-three Mack had the SIM card to keep in touch with family but had been released in January
He had previously admitted flooding Glasgow with thousands of street valium tablets which was linked to serious organised crime
said: "She certainly isn't someone who has come through the criminal ranks
"She had been given a package and had put her handbag and other items in her locker which is not in a secure area of the prison and she had no interaction with any convicted prisoners during the time she was in possession of these drugs but nonetheless it was in the prison estate."
said: "He had this SIM card to keep in contact with his family after his allowance had run out."
Sheriff Hamilton told Malloy: "It is significant that it was possession of a substantial amount of heroin and cocaine but you have no record and are somewhat vulnerable and I'm persuaded that it will not need to be a custodial sentence."
And he said to Mack: "You are in a somewhat different situation with a significant record specifically disorder
forgery and then a significant conviction for being concerned in the supply of drugs
and your previous convictions and the element of risk that you are to society the custodial threshold has been crossed."
The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) said Malloy was employed by an agency and had not worked at the prison since the drugs were found
Neil Gray Airdrie and Shotts MSP Neil Gray has welcomed the news that 6,410 properties in North Lanarkshire received £26.7 million worth of non-domestic rates relief in 2024
can offer eligible organisations up to 100 per cent rates relief – with 5,270 in North Lanarkshire being lifted out of paying non-domestic rates all together
which show the value that the SNP Scottish Government places on supporting small business and organisations in the area
He said: “It is welcome news that 6,410 organisations in North Lanarkshire have received £26.7 million worth of rates relief in 2024
“This includes 100 per cent rates relief for 5,270 eligible small businesses and organisations - a really significant number
“Scotland’s rates relief policies are the most generous anywhere in the UK
with over 95 per cent of non-domestic properties in Scotland expected to pay less property tax than elsewhere in the UK
and over 100,000 taken out of paying rates altogether in 2025-26
the substantial level of rates relief offered in Scotland will be a lifeline for many small businesses and organisations in Airdrie & Shotts
showing the value that the SNP places on supporting local business.”
A PRISON worker was caught with class-A drugs after investigators discovered she was in a relationship with a gangster prisoner
Ashley Malloy, 33, was busted with cocaine and heroin in her staff locker at maximum security HMP Shotts in Lanarkshire
Officers learned she was seeing high level hood John Mack, 37, who was jailed for flooding the streets with fake valium alongside drugs kingpin Gary Jamieson, 38
a carer and Mack were originally charged with supplying drugs inside the tough nick
But prosecutors at Hamilton Sheriff Court accepted a guilty plea by Malloy to possession of narcotics
while Mack admitted having an illicit SIM card in his cell
She was put under investigation after police received a tip-off that she was bringing banned items into the maximum security facility
Mack’s cell was searched and a mobile phone SIM card was discovered.
Depute fiscal Aga Mathieson told the court: “Police officers were in receipt of information that Ashley Malloy was working within Shotts as a carer and was introducing illegal items into the prison.
“They attended Shotts with a search warrant and around 8am she was located in a staff preparation area which contains lockers and a place for people who work there to change.
The prosecutor added: “Because of what police had discovered in the bag
“During the search of his cell they found a SIM card.”
The court heard dad-of-three Mack, from Glasgow
had the SIM card to keep in touch with family but had been released in January
Sheriff John Hamilton KC deferred sentence on the pair until next month for reports and continued bail
Mack had previously admitted flooding Glasgow with 840,000 Etizolam tablets
His co-accused Jamieson is the brother of cocaine baron Stephen ‘Jimmy’ Jamieson
as part of an incrimination defence against allegations of a plot to import £100million of cocaine hidden in bananas
But he changed his plea four days into his trial and has since been jailed for 20 years
