"The last few weeks have been a challenge
but I've been really encouraged by how the players have responded and taken on board what I've asked of them
I've learned a lot about the group - what we need going forward and who I want to be part of the journey next season."
Michael Appleton's assistant Richard O'Donnell has also committed his future to Shrewsbury Town
Appleton had been out of work since being sacked as Charlton boss in January 2024 following a run of 10 league matches without a win

Shrewsbury also confirmed Appleton's assistant
will remain in his role ahead of the 2025-2026 season
"The club has a clear vision for how it wants the team to play
And I hope in the games I've had so far
you've seen the type of football we are working to introduce," Appleton added
"The positive feedback I've had from supporters has been fantastic
That identity though doesn't just happen in a few weeks
both Richard and I are determined to build a team that will really make you proud next season."

The curtains have fallen on Shrewsbury Town’s miserable campaign
Their decade-long stay in League One has officially concluded
beaten by fellow relegated side Crawley Town
Frustrations grew by the minute as decisions went against the home side
and Josh Feeney slowly trudged off in disbelief after being sent off for a soft foul
The decision changed the whole dynamic of the game
Shrewsbury were dismantled again as they have been so often this season
The loss was Town’s 29th of the season and 15th at home
It has been anything but pleasant viewing for the Shrewsbury faithful who haven’t seen a win on home turf since the first day of February
They finished with 33 points - the lowest since three points for a win was introduced
After Michael Appleton secured his first victory in charge of Shrewsbury at Barnsley
it was hoped that Town could finish the season in style
the wait for his first win at the Croud Meadow continues into the next campaign
A football season is often compared to a rollercoaster
This painful and unpleasant ride has finally finished for Town – heads are left spinning and wondering what comes next
and banana costumes were donned by some travelling Crawley supporters
but the Salop faithful were not in a similar mood
The only cause for celebration was the news that Appleton had signed a two-year deal with the club
and the announcement of the news prior to kick-off was met with cheers and applause
Appleton has spoken of trying to instil an identity and Shrewsbury played some attractive football in the first half showing glimmers of hope for the future
Yet Town failed to find the net before the break against the league’s worst defence
The clash had a real pre-season feel with both preparing for their League Two tenure
Toto Nsiala was unable to divert his header goal-bound on the 15-minute-mark
And Town should have found themselves in front just five minutes later
John Marquis was alert to smartly latch onto a loose ball
The Salop top-scorer raced forward with George Lloyd in assistance
The pass to Lloyd was delayed until they reached the box and seemed to lack pace
nevertheless Shrewsbury fans held their breath expecting Lloyd to spank a shot into the back of the net
by which time several Crawley defenders had hurtled back
and under challenge Lloyd crashed to the surface
The hosts came under pressure before the break
His first effort presented little worry but his second was seen away for a corner
the visitors found an opening as nobody tracked the run of Rushian Hepburn-Murphy who beat and rounded goalkeeper Jamal Blackman
in a huge sigh of relief the ball raced away and the forward was unable to steer an effort towards goal
and what unfolded inside the opening five minutes of the second period was devastating and fitting for Shrewsbury’s dire campaign
Crawley were awarded a soft penalty as Josh Feeney challenged Holohan in front of goal
The hosts were furious enough that the spot kick was given
referee Lee Swabey reached to his pocket and produced a red card
Hepburn-Murphy slammed home the spot-kick and Appleton was furious
Things went from bad to worse when Max Anderson turned and struck with a sumptuous volley
It was now damage limitation for Shrewsbury
Marquis would see a powerful effort palmed away while Blackman was kept busy by several free-kicks
Mal Benning did eventually provide the home crowd with something to cheer
Substitute Vadaine Oliver attempted an overhead kick that became the perfect pass for Benning
Tempers flared late-on as frustrations boiled over
and a late rally wasn’t enough for the sides to share the spoils
The best end of season present for the Shrewsbury supporters was the full-time whistle that finally brought the catastrophic and tormenting season to an end
“Floreat Salopia” Shrewsbury’s club’s crest says
and hopefully Town will be back flourishing again
Michael Appleton revealed there are a few “gentlemen's agreements” in place with players who are set to join Shrewsbury Town in the summer
Town’s dismal season concluded on Saturday with defeat to also relegated Crawley Town
Salop’s last outing of the season will also have been the final appearance for some players in a Shrewsbury shirt with Appleton maintaining that big changes lie ahead
Now the campaign is over and Appleton has put pen to paper - signing a two-year deal - the Town boss said the re-build for next season starts immediately with agreements with some players already in place
“Once I left here (the club) on Friday night I was on the phone to players,” Appleton said
“I have set up meetings for this week and the next week and hopefully we are good to go
“I don’t know if you can have a ‘gentlemen’s agreement' these days
but if there is such a thing as a ‘gentlemen’s agreement’ then there are already a couple of them that have already happened
“We will see what happens in the next few weeks
“Trust me they will make us a million times better.”
There was uncertainty surrounding Appleton’s position before last Friday and whether he would definitely be the man to lead Shrewsbury next season
He added: “We have already started from a recruitment point of view
putting things in place and making contact with potential signings for next year and that will continue full throttle in the next few days
“There are a few things that we need to tidy up in the next week in terms of making sure that the season is locked off and that we know exactly what is happening
“Once that has happened then we can continue and make sure that when we come back for pre-season that we have as many new faces as we possibly can
but for me it is going to be an exciting one
Getting today (Crawley match) out of the way as quickly as we could was the main thing
“I cannot wait to get back on the phone and on the road meeting players.”
Asked if enticing players to join ahead of a League Two campaign as opposed to a League One season will be more difficult
I have been around quite a long time now and have worked with a lot of players
“Whether it is players that I have worked with in the past or players that I have worked with who have spoken about me to other players
I would like to back myself that we can get players here that we maybe wouldn’t have got at another time.”

A Shrewsbury woman has thanked a quick-acting train driver and a vet for saving her dog's life after it escaped and was hit by a locomotive
Labradoodle Dora escaped from her garden in Shrewsbury on February 10
The nine-year-old dog ended up on a live railway line and was hit by a moving train but miraculously survived
After spotting her on the tracks, train driver, Charlie Cridland, stopped his train, coaxed Dora onboard, and took her straight to Vets for Pets in Hereford
The first Dora's owner knew of the incident was when the vet called to say she had been brought to them and was recovering from her treatment after she was found running along a railway line
described the shock of learning about her dog’s new habit for exploration
"When I got the call to ask if I was near Hereford or had lost a dog by the railways
I couldn't understand how she had ended up so far away and on a train track," she said
a Transport for Wales train driver and a former British Army dog handler said: "Driving trains
but seeing a dog on the tracks was truly heart stopping
"It was a huge relief when I saw she was okay
but knew she needed some expert help to make sure she could recover for more – slightly more tame – adventures in the future."
Owner Jane credits Charlie's quick actions and the dedicated team at Vets for Pets Hereford
Without his quick actions and the immediate care from the Vets for Pets team
Vets for Pets Hereford played a key part in a remarkable story of kindness
helping a canine explorer named Dora defy all odds and survive an ill-advised adventure on train tracks and 54-mile journey from Shrewsbury to Hereford
The nine-year-old Labradoodle’s story left her owners in awe and incredibly grateful for the quick actions that saved Dora’s life
is keen to use Dora’s recent travels as a reminder to pet owners who live near train tracks to be extra careful
especially with pooches with a love of adventure
"Situations like this can unfold in moments
whether it’s a gap in a fence or an open gate
It’s a good idea to regularly check your garden for potential escape routes
keep your pet's microchip details up to date; without it
reuniting Dora with Jane wouldn't have been possible.”
A spokesperson for Transport for Wales added: “We’re so pleased Charlie was able to step in and help rescue Dora
and we’re delighted to hear she’s made a full recovery
We also want to remind pet owners how important it is never to follow their dog onto the tracks
Our staff are fully trained to handle situations like this safely
Going onto the railway lines is both illegal and extremely dangerous—and could lead to a fine of up to £1,000 or even arrest
The safest thing to do is contact railway staff
who can respond quickly and in the right way.”

Michael Appleton is raring to get started on plans to build a new identity after penning a new Shrewsbury Town contract - but added promotion guarantees would be "naïve"
The 49-year-old from Salford signed a two-year contract to extend his temporary spell at the club beyond Saturday's season finale at home to Crawley
It will Town's final fixture in League One after a miserable season ended in relegation and Appleton - who was appointed to replace Gareth Ainsworth in late March - has been selected as the man to lead the squad's long-term rebuild
Town remain in a position where chairman Roland Wycherley is actively looking for a sale of the club and head coach Appleton suggested while things such as playing budgets are up in the air
there can be no guarantees of immediate League Two success
"That (promotion) will depend on a lot of things," Appleton said at his press conference after signing the deal
"The chairman is working really hard for investment into the club or a potential takeover
I'm not going to be naïve enough to say we're going to get automatic promotion or promotion as a definite
That would be stupid without 100 per cent knowing the figures."
Asked if his new contract was a sign a takeover was progressing
Appleton replied: "From what I hear there's definitely a lot of interest in the club and why wouldn't there
a really well run club for a number of years
"There's a lot of basket cases out there and this certainly isn't one
"Only yesterday I had conversations with the chairman and he told me there are still lots of interested parties."
He added on whether a takeover would result in an increased budget: "If a takeover happens then that is an obvious thing
The reality is we're a club relegated from League One
"If the club does go to another group or person they will want to be successful and to do that I'd imagine they'd have an idea on the finances of success for League Two level and it's up to them."
Following Saturday's home finale Appleton will hold talks with the squad to deliver news about the futures of players who are both under and out of contract
A significant chunk - 13 in total - remain under deals into next season at Croud Meadow
Appleton said there is a possibility contracts can be settled to allow some players to move on as the club look to rebuild
Blackpool and Portsmouth boss confirmed there will be no further changes to his backroom staff
Shrewsbury Town interim boss Michael Appleton has been handed the job on a permanent basis - penning a two year deal at the Croud Meadow
The former Lincoln City and Oxford United boss answered Salop's call earlier this season
taking over as interim manager following the sudden departure of Gareth Ainsworth
Appleton has received plaudits for changing relegated Salop's style of play and picked up his first win in charge at Barnsley on Saturday
Appleton has outlined his ambition to remain at the club beyond the end of the season and has repeatedly been asked about his future in Shropshire
he indicated that the delay in his contract being made permanent could be down to the takeover talks the club are currently involved in
ahead of the final game of the campaign against Crawley Town
Appleton has penned a two-year deal at the club alongside his assistant Richard O'Donnell
The former West Brom midfielder was delighted to get the deal over the line and explained that his interim period has allowed him time to learn what he will need going forward
He said: "It’s no secret that I wanted to stay at this football club so I’m really pleased the deal is now done
but I’ve been really encouraged by how the players have responded and taken on board what I’ve asked of them
I’ve learned a lot about the group — what we need going forward and who I want to be part of the journey next season
“The club has a clear vision for how it wants the team to play
you’ve seen the type of football we are working to introduce
“The positive feedback I’ve had from supporters has been fantastic
“That identity though doesn’t just happen in a few weeks
both Richard and I are determined to build a team that will really make you proud next season.”
Following confirmation of Appleton's permanent deal
director of football Micky Moore is set to publish an open letter to supporters later on Friday
Jonny Drury gives his take after Michael Appleton was handed the Shrewsbury Town job on a permanent basis

Appleton has overseen a change in Salop's style of play

is the right move and why his track record in the transfer market should bring optimism to the Salop fans
This year marks a significant milestone in British history — the 80th anniversary of VE Day
when the guns finally fell silent across Europe and peace was declared on May 8th
preparations are well underway for a very special day of remembrance and celebration to honour that momentous occasion and the extraordinary generation behind it
the town will come together to pay tribute to those who sacrificed so much for the freedoms we enjoy today
the day’s events promise to be both moving and joyful
The day will begin bright and early at 8am with a traditional proclamation at High Cross on Pride Hill by Shrewsbury’s Town Crier Martin Wood — a role that harks back to the days when news was shared not by screens
The cry will echo of the message of hope and peace from 1945
when VE Day was first proclaimed across the country
for a symbolic VE Day 80 flag raising ceremony to honour the men and women who lived through the war — those who fought on the front lines
or supported the war effort in any number of ways
6th 7th and 8th Battalions and Shropshire Yeomanry
the community will once again gather in The Quarry
for an evening titled 'A Shared Moment of Celebration'
local favourites The Ronnie Singers will present a toe-tapping repertoire of wartime classics
filling the air with nostalgic 1940s tunes that once lifted spirits in air-raid shelters and dance halls alike
attendees will be invited to write personal messages of remembrance on special memorial cards
which will be placed around the War Memorial — creating a striking and heartfelt tribute to loved ones
and a special National Tribute delivered by pupils from Wilfred Owen Primary School — named
after the famous war poet who was born in nearby Oswestry — alongside local veterans
promises to be one of the most poignant parts of the evening
The evening will reach its symbolic peak with the Lighting of the Beacon — one of many across the UK — representing peace and remembrance
voices will rise together in a communal singing of “I Vow to Thee
a deeply moving hymn based on the words of a poem by Sir Cecil Spring Rice set to music from Gustav Holst's 'The Planets'
Guests are warmly encouraged to bring a chair
Whether you're a longtime resident or new to the area
the message is simple: this day is for everyone
said: "VE Day remains one of the most important milestones in our national history
We are proud to bring our community together for this very special evening at the Quarry's War Memorial
The Mayor of Shrewsbury added: "It is both an honour and a privilege to welcome everyone to Shrewsbury for this very special occasion
marking 80 years since Victory in Europe Day
Next Thursday we remember not only the moment peace was declared but also the courage
resilience and sacrifice of those who lived through the war
VE Day 80 reminds us that remembrance is something we share as neighbours and as a nation
Let us come together to honour those who served
remember those we lost and commit ourselves to the enduring values of peace
or simply humming along to wartime tunes with your family
come be part of this remarkable day of remembrance
reflection and celebration in Shrewsbury on Thursday

the Liberal Democrats have won a majority in a Shrewsbury Town Council election – and are pledging ‘immediate action and ambition’ to tackle issues throughout the town
This follows an election campaign in which protecting local services was at the forefront of the party’s agenda
giving a clear mandate for change in the way the Town Council is run
The results today signify a clean break which will be marked by an ambitious plan to deliver more services and push for a devolution deal with Shropshire Town Council which allows Shrewsbury to take the lead
Councillor Rob Wilson was today elected as the Shrewsbury Liberal Democrat Leader and will assume the role of Leader of Shrewsbury Town Council shortly
The results of the election were as follows:
“We’re going to prioritise protecting local services
Whether that’s investing in keeping Shrewsbury tidy
or stepping up to fill the space left by the County Council as it goes through financial turbulence – we’re on your side.”
“Thank you to everyone who supported us
“We fully intend to repay the trust people have put in us with hard work all year round.”

The Liberal Democrats have spent years nibbling away at the Conservative’s majority and today they achieved their end goal – taking control of Shropshire Council
but nobody expected the group to be virtually decimated in Shropshire
with their 2021 total of 43 councillors reduced to just seven
“not in our worst nightmares did we expect this”
The Lib Dems are a well-oiled group with some very experienced councillors

I guess neither of us was thinking straight after days of working all over the district in the heat,” he said
who said he was likely lose the seat to the Lib Dems
described it as “absolutely disgusting behaviour and no integrity to local government”
I asked Lib Dem leader Sir Ed Davey for his thoughts and he said it was right that Mr Williams apologised
Director Jamie Smith gives the lowdown on what to expect if you’re coming to LOOPFEST 2025 in Shrewsbury this weekend (May 2nd - 4th)
Loopfest has grown this year to an amazing 40 venue
We have also managed to snag some incredible names to play across the weekend
Our festival is growing and therefore bigger named
internationally known artists are recognising us as a fast-rising affair on the festival circuit
including the Shrewsbury College Welsh Bridge Campus - new for Loopfest 2025 - where we’re transforming the car park into a 500 capacity venue
There are so many things this year that we’re excited about
We have a massive drum’n’bass affair at the Buttermarket on Friday night with some of the best djs/emcees in the country playing
The ticketed gigs on Friday night are selling fast (Goldie Lookin' Chain at Shrewsbury Castle is now sold out)
Mary’s Church are hosting some of the finest up and coming bands from the UK
and we always ensure we have a brilliant line-up
the weather is looking good this year (still cross those fingers!) so hopefully that means even more people will join us for a pint and a dance in the sunshine
On Saturday morning at the castle we have a couple of brilliant child-friendly acts
and throughout the weekend we have the likes of Ben Ottowell
all nationally known brilliant musicians and DJs as well as some awesome national and local up and coming bands
Gemima Gallier who will be performing at all 40 venues over the weekend in aid of Arty Party
We’re also really excited about our friend Gemima Gallier performing at all 40 venues over the weekend; she’s doing this for Arty Party
which supports adults with learning disabilities to celebrate their creativity through the arts
Make sure you put some money in her bucket if you see her
this includes the Friday night ticketed gigs at St Mary's Church
and then across our other 37 venues until Sunday night
'Smoke Like a Fish' with Jamie Smith on bass guitar
I will be playing with my bands The Mighty Vipers and Smoke Like a Fish - a lot of our volunteers and core organisers are playing as well
so keep an eye out for Devil in the Whiskey
the feedback we have had from the town and residents itself has been AMAZING
The last couple of years have been the biggest in terms of footfall in the town itself
which obviously means businesses are happy as it will mean more money being spent in the town and out-of-county visitors being introduced to our wonderful home
Bands love how the venues are always full and up-for-it
and the bigger artists love our ethos of promoting Shropshire bands as well
We always ensure that our ticketed gigs with international headliners are supported by Shropshire bands and artists
There is such a wonderful music scene in Shropshire (and the Midlands
we love our Brum/Wolves based brethren) and the surrounding Welsh towns - we want to highlight it to the world
The overall vision has been the same since day one and that’s making a festival that highlights the best music Shropshire has to offer
and brings the best national bands to Shrewsbury
We want Loopfest and Shrewsbury to be synonymous with great music
What keeps us going is that our vision is working
We’re only getting bigger and better each and every year
and we already are making plans for Loopfest 2026
because it’s going to be a remarkable weekend full of joy
the festival always brings out a massive buzz in the town
and both artists and audiences always tell us that they’ve had an amazing weekend
We’ve now established ourselves as a festival on the up
we have even more amazing nationally known bands playing
and obviously Shrewsbury itself is a fantastic town to spend time in
Loopfest 2025 is on from Friday, May 2nd until Sunday, May 4th with gigs across Shrewsbury. Get your Loopfest 2025 programme available HERE
Buy a wristband for £12 and enjoy entry to hundreds of gigs all across town on Saturday and Sunday

Greyfriars Bridge in Shrewsbury is set to be closed from 2 June to 5 August [2025] while refurbishment work is carried out on the bridge
During the closure a diversion will be in place
For more information see the interactive map on the One Network website – follow this link
Greyfriars Bridge has reached the point where refurbishment is required to avoid more substantial works and cost at a later date
We’re aware of the impact the works will have on the public and businesses and the disruption it will cause
these works are essential to protect public safety and the longevity of the structure
There are significant constraints which will mean works need to be undertaken during the summer months
Notably the paint will not cure if the temperatures are too low and/or the moisture levels are too high
so work must be carried out in the warmer months of the year
There is also a need to carry out as much of the work as possible during the Coleham Primary School summer holiday
And due to the presence of salmon in the river and flooding concerns
the Environment Agency has specified that the work must be completed by 1 October
the work must be undertaken in phases in order to not overload the bridge
which would impact the safety of those working on the bridge
The work will inevitably conflict with the event calendar in Shrewsbury and the council is evaluating the impact and considering what mitigation can be achieved
Local public representatives and the communities affected will be consulted and be kept abreast of developments

Shrewsbury Town could be facing a "£1m decrease" in commercial revenue in the wake of relegation to League Two
according to football finance expert Kieran Maguire
Town are guaranteed to finish bottom of League One after relegation was confirmed on Friday and defeats to Wigan and Northampton over the weekend
Maguire laid bare the impact of dropping down a division after 10 years
"The biggest difference for Shrewsbury Town will be the broadcast income will be cut by a third
so it'll be around £700,000 next season," he said
"They will not be generating the same level of ticket sales
There are some pretty big hitters in League One this season like Birmingham City and Wrexham
"Trying to persuade commercial partners to sponsor a League Two team is more difficult
I'd expect overall to see around a £1m decrease in revenue
"That'll have an impact on signing players and jobs as well."
Maguire added that while there will be some money given to the club from the EFL
there is nothing in place like parachute payments from the Premier League
In the Premier League if you get relegated
Between League One and Two we're talking buttons."
Shrewsbury head coach Michael Appleton held little back as he waits for a decision on his future
He arrived at the club last month following Gareth Ainsworth's exit
and has spoken of his frustration with the squad's mentality
I can't tell you how different things are going to be
There is a softness to the group that makes my skin crawl," he said
"[A decision] allows me to be more forthright with people when they have a better understanding of what is happening next year."

Dale Taylor's second-half Wigan winner rubbed salt into their wounds
The visitors had the first big chance when Jamal Blackman saved from Jon Mellish
who then also rattled the outside of the post
But Town defender George Nurse did test Wigan keeper Sam Tickle with a free-kick close to half-time before Latcis matchwinner Taylor had a goal ruled out for offside in first-half stoppage-time
Shrewsbury's relegation back to League Two confirmed
Taylor's winner came 19 minutes from time when he stroked home from Maleace Asamoah's pass after he drove into the box
But Latics keeper Tickle then produced a good save in the final 10 minutes to keep Callum Stewart out from an acute angle
could only fire straight at Tickle right at the end
But the Latics held on for their first win in seven matches - and their first since former Shrewsbury favourite Lowe took charge a month ago

Shrewsbury’s ‘Lost Buildings’ are remembered by Phil Scoggins showcasing a stunning collection of images held by Shropshire Archives and Shropshire Museums
A project by local historian Phil Scoggins seeks to celebrate the ‘Lost Buildings’ of Shrewsbury and draw attention to this treasure trove of images - which he believes ranks amongst the best collections of historic urban photographs
Phil explains his thinking behind the Lost Buildings project, his research process and what we can expect from the blogs, which will be shared here in My Shrewsbury’s new Heritage section: “I want to enable people to celebrate the fantastic collection of images of the historic townscape of Shrewsbury that we have,” Phil says.
“I have my own theory as to why Shrewsbury is so well covered pictorially
I think it is due to the lack of really obvious subjects for painting or photography; we don’t have a huge castle like Ludlow or a medieval cathedral like York
photographers and artists have had to look a little harder for subject matter but seem to have recognised that the town was
full of more minor delights and that almost every street had something worth recording
that attract me most and that will form a large part of this series of articles
I make no claims of original research; many others have been there before me
but my experience of working for Shropshire Archives
Shropshire Museums and Shropshire Archaeology Service as well as being an active member of Shrewsbury Civic Society has given me a detailed insight into the changing fabric of the town down to that of individual buildings street by street across the town
“I hope to use that experience to bring to you an eclectic mix of lost buildings from across nearly 1000 years of Shrewsbury’s history
some well-known and destroyed within living memory
others all but forgotten and removed centuries ago
This will largely be an architectural history
a look at the physical fabric through which the lifeblood of Shrewsbury has coursed
was first recorded in 1828 and was housed in this late Georgian building
(Image courtesy of Shropshire Archives: sa-img73563)
Georgian inns once resounding to the coming and going of stagecoaches
I hope you will enjoy these trips through the streets of Shrewsbury
an alternative guided tour where buildings long gone are brought to life again
I hope you will also join me in toasting the heroes of this story
those artists and photographers who left us with a record of a town that would otherwise be impossible to envisage.”

Phil’s own interest in historic townscapes began during his university years
when he studied ‘The Making of the English Medieval Town’ as part of a History degree course at UEA
He went on to teach History for half of his working life in Worcestershire and at Thomas Adams School in Wem
There followed various posts within Shropshire County Council and Shrewsbury & Atcham Borough Council museum services
then Shropshire Archives working on the Discovering Shropshire’s History website during which he worked with artist Phil Kenning to produce the ‘Shrewsbury in 1630’ reconstruction map
This was followed by two years with the archaeological service at Acton Scott
focusing on the excavation of a Roman villa
Phil was appointed as the Project Interpretation Officer for the new Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery a post combined with that of Duty Manager at the museum when it opened its doors in 2014
Phil retired in 2022 but still volunteers there
Amongst his last projects were working with colleagues at Shropshire Archives and the Old Market Hall to produce two popular online videos; “Recreating Lost Townscapes: A thousand years of ‘West End’ Shrewsbury” and “Shrewsbury’s Fields of Dreams: Reinventing Raven Meadows through time”
You can find Phil’s ‘Lost Buildings’ series in the new ‘Heritage’ section of My Shrewsbury online at www.myshrewsbury.co.uk

Harris confirms £5m Shrewsbury bid as other buyers emerge
Appleton keen to stay longer at Shrewsbury
being pursued by several potential investors
current head coach Michael Appleton this week had a meeting with Town officials about his own future
"Talks have been really positive," Appleton told BBC Radio Shropshire
"I'm enjoying my time here and I'm enjoying the interactions I've had with all the staff and the players
I'm hoping that an agreement will happen over time
"We seem to have a good response from the fans
which is probably the most important thing
and I'm very encouraged by the talks we've had."
Appleton was appointed for an initial nine games until the end of the campaign following Gareth Ainsworth's shock exit to join Gillingham after just four months in charge
So, 10 years on after coming up from League Two under manager Micky Mellon
Shrewsbury head back there under director of football Micky Moore
hopes of an 11th straight season in League One for English football's longest occupants of the third tier proved too much
Shrewsbury have spent the past decade competing on a pretty unlevel playing field on the financial front, doing well to survive each season, except for the remarkable 2017-18 campaign when they punched well above their weight, finished third and made the play-off final under Paul Hurst, who then immediately left for Ipswich.
They began this season with Hurst back in charge - but long-serving chairman Roland Wycherley's plan to hand over the club to new owners at the end of the season after 30 years at the helm quickly came adrift
Salop got off to a bad start, had an all too brief mini revival after Hurst was sacked in November and new boss Ainsworth donned his cowboy boots to gallop into town
Ainsworth's unique brand of motivational skills engineered shock home wins over both League One's two transatlantic-owned giants, Birmingham City and Wrexham
Shrewsbury are where they should be as far as this season is concerned
Only one club Wigan Athletic (35) have scored fewer than Town's 37 goals in 42 games
And only Crawley (81) and Peterborough (72) have leaked more than their 71 goals
Right now, other than the prospect of new owners following a failed takeover and the hope of Appleton stopping on
all the Town fans have to look forward to is the prospect of meeting Ainsworth again next season when they play Gillingham
