A man who controlled the supply of heroin and cocaine flowing between Coventry and Skegness has been sentenced to nine years in prison
sourced the Class A drugs and organised their distribution at street level
Conservative estimates by a drugs expert are that there were around 30 deals a day taking place
accounting for around two kilos of the Class A drugs finding its way to the streets of Skegness
He did this with a Coventry-based associate
‘Our investigation was months in the making
as we gathered crucial evidence to show how significant the County Lines drugs operation was
‘It all led back to Renwick and his associate
They orchestrated the recruitment of numerous people to build a sophisticated network and business model for the drugs operation
which would ensure a continual flow of drugs was available
‘The methods used were borrowed from successful marketing tactics used by big brands
and preyed on some of the most vulnerable addicted users
‘The drug dealing group that Renwick controlled regularly sent bulk marketing messages
This kept the highly addictive substances front and centre in the minds of the users
‘The Abs line operated their business on a daily basis
only slowing once demand had outstripped drugs stock
they rapidly reloaded supplies and followed that up with more marketing messages
Our officers tracked their movements using traffic data and other tactics to place them at the scene of deals and key storage locations of the drugs
‘The drugs were moved by car into the local area
and runs to resupply were happening weekly
was supported by a trusted network of other drug dealers and couriers
was one of the street-level dealers working in Skegness
entrusted with a stock of drugs and involved in at least one courier run
‘Callum Trainor, 22, of Widdrington Road, Coventry, was a key player in the ability for the business to carry out its daily supply. He acted as a courier, bringing the drugs from Coventry into Skegness, alongside another courier, Brian Parker, 50, of Mansfield Road, Worksop
who ran the other way between Skegness and Coventry to resupply when stocks ran low
‘As a result of the work by the investigative team
one man at risk of being a victim of modern slavery was safeguarded
‘Our investigation focused on 1 September 2021 to 1 October 2022
with evidence gathered including phone data
A number of warrants were also carried out at properties in both Skegness and Coventry
everyone in the Abs line was charged.’
Detective Inspector William Tharby from the Serious Organised Crime Team at Lincolnshire Police led the investigation
He said: “This operation has been complex and taxing
stretching the investigation team and supporting units to their limits
County Lines drugs operations – a term used to describe criminals using a phone line to conduct their operations across different county borders – operate on exploitation
“We had been seeing increasing reports of drug use and associated crime in the Skegness area during lockdown
and we needed to take action to keep the community
So much of what we do relies on the help and cooperation of local residents and businesses who share information and support our investigations
“So many different teams from the police have come together to bring these people to justice
including local Neighbourhood Policing Teams in Skegness
telecoms teams and Economic Crime Unit (ECU)
along with teams securing arrests on the enforcement period including our colleagues from the West Midlands
All four were sentenced at Lincoln Crown Court on Wednesday 23 and Thursday 24 April
A further five people are due to be sentenced in June for a variety of charges
The four sentenced recently in court were all charged with conspiracy to supply Class A drugs (cocaine) conspiracy to supply Class A drugs (heroin)

Every year, hundreds of thousands of people visit Skegness
whether it's for a day out in the sun or a week-long holiday with family and friends
one thing almost everyone does is get an ice cream
in recent years the prices of everything have been going up and up
and while it may be easier just to grab an ice cream from whichever stand or cafe you're passing
it might be worth comparing a few in the area to make sure you are paying a good price
and also what the coolest ice-creams were on the menu
we found whippy ice creams being sold for just £1.70 at Sharpeys
near the entrance to Tower Gardens off Grand Parade
making a 99 here £2 compared to the £2.50 most places were charging
We decided to try a whippy with strawberry sauce and it was really good value for money
It wasn't a small cone like I had seen some places advertising
The amount of ice cream on top was probably as tall as the cone
The business is located off Grand Parade close to the Tower Garden ,entrance but the name isn't on the sign
we also spotted that one cafe close to the beach had a special offer from Monday to Friday where you could get a small whippy cone for just £1.50
We couldn't spot a name for the business
but it has a large black and white sign saying 'Ice cream
Here are eight of the cheapest locations we found for a whippy based on the prices displayed on Wednesday
Coolest thing on menu - Fully loaded screwball - £2.70
Coolest thing on the menu - Four doughnuts and ice-cream with Nutella - £5.50
Coolest thing on the menu - Lotus Biscoff Sundae - £4
Coolest thing on the menu - Strawberry delight - £7
Coolest thing on the menu - Nutella Monster - £5
Coolest thing on the menu - Double whippy with hot chocolate dip - £4
Coolest thing on the menu - Sprinkle sundae with strawberry sauce and flake - £3.50
Small cone with '99' flake - £2.50
Coolest thing on menu - Large waffle cone with any three scoops and flake - £7

The first patients have been welcomed to the new £15million Skegness Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC)
The facility on Old Wainfleet Road opened this week
bringing a number of NHS diagnostic services to the town for the first time
including state-of-the art CT and MRI scanners
Community diagnostic centres offer a range of elective (planned) diagnostic services
providing easier and quicker access to tests
Each centre in Lincolnshire is being designed to consider the specific health needs of the local community
Other services available at Skegness CDC include non-obstetric ultrasound and a range of physiological testing
such as blood tests for adults and children over the age of five
standard ECGs and 24-hour blood pressure testing
Blood testing for chemotherapy patients will also be available
in the first step to develop a chemotherapy service from the site
was one of the first patients to use the new CDC in Skegness
He said: “My GP asked me where I wanted to go for my appointment
Then I was telephoned and offered the chance to come to Skegness
My wife Rosalyn and I didn’t realise this facility was here and thought it might be a mobile scanner
I’ve been looked after so well by the health service.”
Approximately £42million has been invested in community diagnostic centres in Lincolnshire during 2024, which also includes a £5million expansion at Grantham in March 2024 and a £23million new modular-built facility in Lincoln
The Lincoln CDC is on track to open to patients next month
Lincolnshire Community and Hospitals Group Chief Executive
said: “We believe this to be the most significant NHS investment in Skegness in recent years and we are very proud to be delivering new diagnostic services that we know will make a huge difference to the local community
“The CDC will offer more choice and convenience to help reduce travel for patients
while increasing the number of appointments to help bring down waiting times for diagnostic tests
“We have already seen great success in the Lincolnshire CDC programme as a whole
with more than 118,000 tests delivered to patients since it began in November 2021 and the creation of approximately 140 clinical and non-clinical job roles
This has been made possible thanks to developments like this with better partnership working across NHS services
including with local primary care providers.”
Skegness CDC has been built on land owned by Skegness-based leisure operator Teen Spirit Limited
Managing Director Scott Sinclair said: “Teen Spirit Limited is delighted to be working in collaboration with the NHS to bring a much-needed facility to local residents of Skegness and those in surrounding areas
The opening of Skegness Community Diagnostic Centre will be a quantum leap forward in meeting the health needs of local residents
speeding up access and alleviating the burden of travel to access essential diagnostic services
my four-year-old daughter was diagnosed with cancer in December and during treatment in Nottingham we met a family from Skegness who travelled long distances for care
I am sure having more local opportunities to receive diagnostic testing will make such a difference to others in a similar position.”
The dual contract for construction of both Skegness and Lincoln CDCs has been delivered by Modern Methods of Construction specialist MTX Contracts Ltd
MTX Managing Director David Hartley said: “We are privileged to partner the Trust to deliver new community diagnostic facilities that will have such a huge impact on waiting lists and deliver a significant improvement in patient care
“This contract is one of several won by MTX to build CDCs across the UK
Employing MMC enables MTX to deliver fully compliant high quality facilities for NHS Trusts faster
compared with conventional building techniques.”

Work has stopped at Skegness Railway Station as rail bosses look for a new partner to finish the job
East Midlands Railway has confirmed that Taziker Ltd has stopped work on the station redevelopment
The company is now seeking a new delivery partner to ensure construction is completed as soon as possible
the £3.3 million project aims to completely reconfigure the station layout and improve passenger flow
The final phase of work was due to be completed by 25 May
which involves repurposing the unused Red Star Building at the front of the station into new customer areas and retail units
was briefly held up after structural issues were uncovered during the building’s strip-out
It is unclear how the latest development will affect the overall timescale
An East Midlands Railway spokesperson said: “We remain fully committed to the redevelopment of Skegness station and are very excited about the customer and wider community benefits this project will deliver
we are working swiftly to appoint a new delivery partner to ensure construction is completed as soon as possible.”
The issue was first raised on Facebook on Thursday (April 3) by Paul Collins
an independent candidate for Skegness South in the upcoming Lincolnshire County Council elections
He wrote: “I have just been told that the contractors have walked off the Connected Coast railway station development.”
Reform UK candidate for Ingoldmells Rural Danny Brookes responded to the post
claiming: “Apparently the contractors who are doing the first phase of the rail station are not going on to do the second phase
They had under-quoted so East Midlands Railway are getting a new contractor in.”
Taziker Ltd has been approached for comment
