Friday Jack Maskell’s seventh minute opener was cancelled out by Will Jenkins’ leveller in the 36th minute to secure the draw It is a result which leaves Elliott Dickman’s side in 17th place in the Vanarama National League North table with just two games remaining of their 2024/25 campaign after a positive reception to returning from injury recently and the long-serving defender was afforded the chance to put in a solid shift out there Shields almost had the dream start when Paul Blackett netted just four minutes into the game things took a turn for the worse - despite their reasonable start - and Maskell gave the hosts the lead The young attacker lifted ex-Mariner Cedric Main’s through ball above and over Kyle Seymour the visitors did compose themselves quite well and they created further chances of note - Peter Jameson was called into action to deny Blackett soon after who made his first start following an enforced period on the sidelines impressed during the first-half and a number of opportunities were crafted Mackenzie Heaney was the architect for Shields’ equaliser Blackett came close to doubling the Mariners’ lead before half-time but the offside flag went up once more It would be fair to say things became more disruptive as play restarted following the break with the weather causing more of a nuisance to those on and off the field Shields’ first real chance of note in the second-half fell to Blackett who played Heaney out wide before he aimed a cross at the back post Heaney did well from a free-kick soon after David Carson played Blackett through on goal but he just couldn’t get his effort in the back of the net - if not for the conditions Time escaped Shields in the end and they ended up settling for one point at Blackwell Meadows Up next is the Spennymoor Town at 1st Cloud Arena on Easter Monday Goals by Corey McKeown and ex-Shields loanee Aidan Rutledge gave the travelling Moors support something extra to celebrate it was Shields who almost had the dream start - Paul Blackett surged through on goal within two minutes of the start and Will Jenkins narrowly missed the ball as he slid to try and connect with it An acrobatic finish by skipper Robert Briggs saw his effort from a corner go over the bar tried his best but his shot at goal was comfortably claimed by Spennymoor ‘keeper It would be the visitors who would score first and to their credit it was an exquisite piece of play Shields were left vulnerable as the Moors passed it around the box to slot it past Kyle Seymour in the 16th minute Seymour was called into action almost five minutes later to thwart Ramshaw's powerful strike Matty Dolan followed suit with a glancing shot of his own and although Shields retained the ball well they were unable to do very much in front of goal with it - at least in the early stages the Moors broke through and Coleby Shepherd did excellently to clear Junior Mondal’s opportunity off the line Momentum did appear to shift in the Mariners’ favour as the second-half went on and a very tidy piece of play involving Shepherd Blackett and Mackenzie Heaney almost resulted in a dream goal for Shields’ top goalscorer Blackett’s shot just fell wide and it could be argued that the team were so unfortunate not to have scored from it David Carson combined superbly with second-half substitute Dan Ward on the right-hand side as the latter sent a cross into the six-yard box he couldn’t make enough contact and Spennymoor managed to clear it out from a similar position to that of McKeown when he scored but this time it went just past the goalmouth The home pressure was ramping up but they couldn’t get the goal they needed to drag them back into the game Things were soon taken out of doubt when Rutledge was brought on for Spennymoor - within a few minutes he had claimed a penalty after Seymour had brought him down The ex-Mariner stepped up confidently and slotted it into the back of the net Yesterday's defeat means that Elliott Dickman’s side remain in 17th place in the Vanarama National League North table with their final game of the season away against Marine coming this Saturday SearchMatch Report: Marine 4-1 South Shields FCSam JonesApr 272 min readIt was straight into the action as Marine were awarded a free kick leading to a direct free kick toward the back post which Seymour was able to punch away it was Butler who as able to give Marine the lead with a header at the back post in the fourth minute of the game Marine were looking to add another straight away with Sinclair-Smith picking the ball up and driving down the right hand side he was able to cut back the ball to Marine’s number 9 it was Blackett who struck first in an attempt to give Shields their first goal of the afternoon after he picked up the ball on the edge of the box he fires towards the top right corner but Metcalfe pulls off an impressive diving save to deny him Marine were up the other end of the pitch where it was Grant who was the man to give Marine their second with a diving header again were unlucky not to add a goal in the first half with a looping cross coming toward Allan is met really well but it was blocked off the line by Wardle Marine added their third through Sinclair Smith when Grant was able to find him driving into the box and after a good touch to bring it down he was able to knock it past Seymour McGowan did really well to win Shields a free-kick on the edge of the area His effort was looking to be looping in but it struck the crossbar Marine were looking dangerous from set-pieces with their fourth coming in the 44th minute from Wardle who was able to win a header at the back post from a corner Shields entered the second half with a tactical change with McGowan being replaced by Sloan to offer more defensive coverage Allan received the only booking of the afternoon after denying a Marine attack Are much better defensive display in the second-half would see Shields win the second half with Crossley stabbing in a header in the 75th minute after a great run down the right hand side by Blackett who was able to find Crossley creeping into the six yard box to see it away Josh Ashby’s 90+7th minute penalty secured Oxford City a huge three points in Vanarama National League North as the Hoops came from behind to beat South Shields 2-1 at the 1st Cloud Arena.  A difficult first-half saw the Mariners take a 1-0 lead into the break as Paul Blackett tapped in a rebounded shot.  City won a corner and made their advantage count straight away when Andre Burley got the slightest of touches to deflect Lewis Coyle’s corner into the net.  the game will be remembered for a chaotic last ten minutes where City won two penalties.  as Corie Andrews broke past the Shields' backline deep into added time and was hauled down by Mariners' 'keeper Kyle Seymour sending Seymour the wrong way to send the small contingent of travelling Hoops into delirium.  Ross Jenkins had no option but to tinker his squad It was a makeshift City side that took to the pitch Chi Ezennolim and Aaron Drewe were a centre-half pairing with Tom Scott stepping into midfield.  There was also a welcome return for Corie Andrews on the bench.  The first-half was a scrappy affair on a difficult surface but it was the hosts that managed it the better of the sides.  They took the lead through talismanic striker Paul Blackett on seventeen minutes when he poked home Dylan Stephenson’s shot after Laurie Walker superbly denied the winger.  City had to keep their heads above water in the first half with Walker making a number of saves to keep the Hoops in it.  They could’ve levelled when Zac McEachran wiggled in on goal the midfielder opted to be unselfish and pass but the move broke down.  Half-Time: South Shields 1-0 Oxford City  The game was turned on just head two minutes into the second-half when the hosts were reduced to ten men.  The referee had no option but to brandish the red card the Hoops had the rub of the green with a major decision going their way.  and Andre Burley got the slightest of touches to guide the ball into the net they gave as good as they got and the game continued as if it was still 11v11.  but he was consigned to long range efforts that rarely troubled Walker.  but the linesman’s flag denied him any celebrations just as Ross Jenkins' side thought they'd edged ahead but there was always a sense that there was another goal to come in the game The key moment came five minutes from time when City were given a golden opportunity to snatch all three points McEachran again proved too much for his marker and was tripped on the edge of the box City’s terrible penalty record continued as Seymour guessed right and saved Parker’s penalty as he dived to his right the deciding action came five minutes into added time.  Substitute Andrews used a quick set of heels to outpace the backline and bear down on goal.  Just as everyone inside the 1st Cloud Arena expected a shot The stand-in captain banished City’s penalty hoodoo to send the ‘keeper the wrong way and steal all three points for City.  Pandemonium in the away end and on the pitch as City battled hard to come away with a much needed three points.  It’s three points (and a three huge ones at that) another huge clash on Saturday as we take on Warrington Town on Saturday (3pm).  ALL RIGHTS RESERVED | OXFORD CITY FOOTBALL CLUB Plans for a cutting-edge new Extra Care scheme in South Shields have been submitted for approval.  developed and managed by housing a central communal courtyard Ground floor apartments have access to private patio areas with upper storey apartments benefitting from balconies The wider scheme would include a variety of landscaped areas and small quiet gardens.  The proposal is for the heating and hot water to be powered by air source heat pumps with additional energy generated through roof mounted solar PV panels.  The design has also been guided by the needs of the community the scheme will be the first of Karbon's Extra Care schemes to have an integrated Community Hub alongside a bistro café and multi-use spaces for activities open to the general public and community groups helping to facilitate community cohesion.  Its delivery would be part-funded by Homes England through Karbon's Strategic Partnership with the unbeaten run After a very quiet start at the 1st Cloud Arena the hosts had the first big chance through Kyle Crossley after Dylan Stephenson dispossessed Nathan Woodthorpe just inside the Chester half The ball fell to Crossley around 15 yards from goal but his low effort was held by Jimmy Storer in comfortable fashion The same forward caused more problems for Chester just a few minutes later when he found himself in behind the Seals’ back line and looked to have a golden chance to open the scoring Just as he was about to pull the trigger though Crossley lost his balance while under pressure from Harrison Burke and his eventual tame effort was straight at Storer A looped corner from Declan Weeks brought the Seals their first clear sight of goal but Burke’s header flew well over Myles Boney and the home goal It was a positive first half for the hosts and they took a deserved lead into the break when the ball fell to Crossley on the edge of the box before his strike deflected off a yellow shirt into the back of the net The change of direction wrong-footed Storer in the Yellows’ net and gave him no chance as a run of back-to-back clean sheets was halted Calum McIntyre responded at the interval and made two changes with the additions of both Dan Mooney and Kev Roberts for Fin Roberts and Jordan Hunter The Seals went on the offensive after the restart and Connell Rawlinson had an opportunity within a minute of the referee’s whistle but his header was cleared off the line South Shields almost doubled their advantage soon after but Will Jenkins’ drilled strike rolled just wide of the post Chester pushed back though and went within inches of an equaliser when Iwan Murray’s strike was cleared off the line Woodthorpe rushed on to the ball on the left wing before he fed Connor Woods who laid off to Murray but the 24-year-old’s effort was blocked in crucial fashion by Robert Briggs The Seals’ left-back was involved again just moments later as Woodthorpe smashed a dangerous strike towards goal that narrowly flew over the bar Elliott Dickman’s side delivered a sucker-punch in the 79th minute through talisman Paul Blackett who found himself in space inside the 18-year-box before he finished with power past Storer into the bottom corner It was the end of Chester’s impressive seven-game victorious streak after a scrappy affair in the North-East in which South Shields were solid at the back and showed quality going forward to earn all three points Calum McIntyre’s men return to action on Tuesday for a crucial clash with Kidderminster Harriers down CH1 as
