LATEST NEWSNEWS ARCHIVEMATCHES SENIOR SQUADSENIOR COACHING STAFFSTATISTICSCLUB May 5 Mason Hancock says Airdrie must take the game to Stenhousemuir in Tuesday’s Championship play-off semi-final first leg at Ochilview. The defender was one of a number of players rested for the regular season finale against Ayr United on Friday night but has enjoyed an impressive spell in the first team after recovering from an injury which had dogged his season.A double against Queen’s Park in last month’s 5-0 win was the icing on the cake for Hancock who is delighted to be back to his best.“I’ve really enjoyed my run out in the starting XI the last few months I was desperate to get back in since Christmas time – sometimes maybe too desperate rushing myself back too soon to only be out again for a couple weeks.“To be back playing fit and pain-free is all I wanted for myself to grab a couple of goals at Hampden is the feeling I’ve missed for quite a spell this season – and then to get back on good form as a team was an even better feeling.”That good form saw the Diamonds haul themselves into a position to take advantage when Hamilton Academical were docked points for a number of rule breaches and Hancock says it puts the squad in a healthier position than expected going into the play-offs.“We’re high in confidence and belief and we know we have the quality within the squad to come out on top in this next two weeks.“It’s important we approach this week with the correct mindset and play with the confidence we’ve built in ourselves since the new year.”The first hurdle facing Airdrie is Gary Naysmith’s Stenhousemuir who secured their place with a win over Dumbarton on Saturday having dropped out of the top four recently despite a strong season. There will be plenty of familiar faces on show with no fewer than five ex-Diamonds – Darren Jamieson Euan O’Reilly and Scott McGill – in the Stenny squad.Hancock expects the Warriors to live up to their nickname as they battle for promotion.“I expect them to be right up for it We’ve got a few boys still who came into the Championship this way with the club two seasons ago and they know how hard it is.“They’ll be a physical bunch for sure but we’re fully focused on how we want to play the game We believe if we apply our gameplan and style of play from the start then the result will take care of itself.”And with the home leg to follow on Saturday Mason is in no doubt as to how important an early advantage could be.“All the pressure is on us our home form the past few months has been great.“Getting a positive result away from home would be massive it would take a lot of pressure off of us come Saturday.“And as I said already if we approach the game tomorrow night with the right mentality which we have done really well for a while now I believe our quality will most definitely shine through and we will be playing back at home on Saturday in a good place.”Manager Rhys McCabe is looking forward to the play-off matches after a challenging campaign.“We're excited as a group we always felt that the play-offs were a target we we’re capable of achieving – and we're pleased to be here.“Of course we’re expecting a tough tie from Stenhousemuir especially at their place.“It’s been a good season for them as a club and they’ll be approaching the matches with confidence – but the turnaround in our form means that we can do that too and we’re raring to go.”The Diamonds boss is still without Cammy Bruce and Aaron Reid ahead of the short trip to Ochilview with defender Aidan Wilson aiming to be in contention following a spell out with a leg knock.Referee Grant Irvine is in charge of his third Airdrie match of the season having previously officiated August’s 2-2 draw at Hamilton Academical and the 1-0 home defeat to Ayr United in October.Match tickets are available using the link below and our DiamondsTV video (subscribers outwith the UK and Ireland) and audio (pay-per-match worldwide) streams are available MAILING LIST CONTACT PRIVACY The 2024/25 SPFL League One campaign concludes tomorrow afternoon with Dumbarton making the short-trip to Ochilview to take on Stenhousemuir [kick-off 3:00pm] Sons fate has already been confirmed due to a 15-point deduction applied against the club earlier this season with Stevie Farrell’s side knowing they will compete in League Two next season there remains plenty to play for as they could still find themselves in fourth place come 5:00pm on Saturday evening The Warriors will need three points themselves and hope that Alloa slip up away to Kelty Hearts which would see them earn a shot at the Championship play-offs Dumbarton are one of the form teams in League One having lost just once in their last seven games their most recent result being a 3-1 win against Annan Athletic last week in the final home match of the season and boss Farrell hopes his players can sign off on a positive note after what has been a difficult season he said: “I keep saying it but I cannot speak highly enough of these players for what they have given me the supporters and everyone involved with the club throughout what has been the most difficult season they will ever go through “Not one of them has downed tools at any stage in any game We have largely competed week in week out and it’s all down to the players attitude and commitment It has been a pleasure to work with each and every one of them and I hope it’s not the last time we cross paths “Finishing at home with three points last week was pleasing because we have struggled at home all season so to give our supporters something to cheer was great “It would be nice to finish with a flourish after the run we have been on over the last couple of months and we know the surface at Ochilview will allow us to get the ball down and play the game that suits us “Hopefully we can see a good number of supporters making the journey to support the team because the players deserve the acclaim for what they have given the club this season.”  Fans making the journey can buy their tickets in advance via Fanbase: https://app.fanbaseclub.com/Fan/Fixtures?fanStoreType=Fixtures&clubId=84 content © Airdrieonians Football Club Arbroath have been praised for a "remarkable" turnaround after sealing the Scottish League One title - and a return to the Championship at the first attempt - with a 4-0 win over third-top Stenhousemuir. A Sam Stanton double, plus goals from Fraser Taylor and Andy Winter, crowned promotion in style at Gayfield as the hosts stayed 11 points clear of Cove Rangers but now with only three games remaining. Relegated last season, Arbroath sacked manager Jim McIntyre after just three league games of the new campaign when they were bottom of the table. Midfielder David Gold and defender Colin Hamilton took interim charge before being appointed permanently in September and have overseen an impressive charge to the title. Arbroath chairman Ewen West told BBC Alba: "We didn't get a great start and there were a few challenges there. We changed the manager, we brought David and Colin in, which was a bit of a risk - never been in the management game before. Livingston consolidate second place with win at Morton Dunfermline move out of bottom two with win at Queen's Park Hamilton beat Partick to boost survival hopes "Changed the squad a wee bit and it has been remarkable since Christmas and went on a great run." The Red Lichties were still bottom of the table after seven games but are now nine league games unbeaten and have only lost three since the turn of the year. Co-manager Hamilton thought the turning point came in October. "We got beat 3-1 by Dumbarton here and me and David pulled the boys in and said we can go and win this league if we really want it," he said. "I think we were scared to say it before then, but it's the belief we have in the players. To end on a victory like that was excellent and makes it a bit more sweet." Midfielder Sam Stanton has been a big influence since arriving on loan from Raith Rovers in January and got the ball rolling against Stenhousemuir with a stunning strike on the turn. On-loan St Mirren midfielder Fraser Taylor fired low off a post from 18 yards after the break, Stanton met a cross from close range and forward Winter, another January loan arrival from Livingston, hammered in the fourth. Gold said: "The boys have been excellent in recent weeks and a score like that has been coming - it was just Stenhousemuir tonight." Stenhousemuir remain third but are now just one point ahead of Queen of the South and two clear of Alloa Athletic in the race for promotion play-off spots. It is phenomenal that Arbroath have bounced back right away. They were absolutely brilliant tonight - and it could have more with the opportunities towards the end. It was an onslought towards the Stenny goal. Some of the quality in their team was brilliant and they full deserve these celebrations. It's been amazing from the new management staff. They've brought in a number of new players since they've been involved - and what a turnaround. The last eight games have been so important. It is key that they keep the majority of this team, and add to it, when they return to the Championship. I'm not saying they can go and win it, but they can certainly be competitive. goalkeeper Joe has featured heavily this season for Celtic’s B team as they push to be crowned Champions in the Lowland League The youngster has had an impressive time in between the sticks securing 6 clean sheets this season out of 12 games The young keeper notably featured in Champions League squad for five of Celtic’s games in 2023 Gary Naysmith shared his delighted is signing Joe: “I am delighted to welcome Joe to the club and must thank Celtic our board of directors and Joe himself for being able to complete a deal at very very short notice “Curtis has been struggling with an injury in recent weeks and the injury is not responding to treatment as quickly as we had hoped It’s become apparent at training last night that he was going to be out for a period of time which left us short in the GK department it became apparent that Joe would be happy to join us on a loan deal until the end of the season and once we knew that it was then a race against the clock to get the deal completed before the 5pm deadline which we thankfully managed “Joe will go straight into the squad for tomorrow’s match and will provide healthy competition within the goalkeeping department for the remainder of the season” also thanked Celtic for their swiftness to get this deal over the line: “I am delighted we have managed to secure the services of Joe.  We found out late last night that Curtis Lyle’s injury was potentially going to keep him out for a spell so we needed to move quickly to secure a Goalkeeper.  “Joe is a player that we have known about for a while having seen him play for Celtic B where he has kept 15 clean sheets in 35 games.  At 20 we feel he is a good age to come in and provide competition for Darren while Curtis is out and we look forward to working with him.  Thanks to Darren O’Dea at Celtic and to our board for allowing us to complete this so quickly.” Posted by | Mar 26, 2025 | | 0 The club is delighted to announce that Ross Taylor has penned a new two-year deal Ross first joined the Warriors from Auchinleck Football Club in 2023 and went on to become a vital part of the Warriors historic title winning season In that season he scored two goals and was the maestro for creating three other goals for his teammates Along with his goal scoring and creating ability Ross is known for his rapid turn of pace which Despite an injury blow at the start of this season Ross came back stronger than ever and has already beaten his goal scoring record with five goals and four assists With an amazing campaign coming to a close Ross felt it was only right to extend his stay : “I’m delighted to be signing a new 2-year contract extension with the club I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Stenhousemuir and hope to keep kicking on as a player and bring more success to the football club.”  “Last year was a special year for the club and one that I was glad to be a part of.  Everyone at the club from the fans to the Gaffer Brown and all the rest of the coaching staff have been great with me and also it’s a brilliant group of players to work with and learn from “We are all striving to do the best we can going into the remainder of the season and hope to produce a good end to what has been a great season so far.” Manager Gary Naysmith shared his delight in keeping the winger at Ochilview for the next two seasons and having the opportunity to watch him develop further: “In my opinion Ross is one of the most exciting young attacking talents at part-time level in Scotland so I am delighted that he has committed himself to the club for another 2 years “Ross is quick and direct and there is no doubt in my mind that the level he shows when he has the ball is good enough to play at a full-time level What we need to keep working on with Ross is the other side of the game and this is something which Ross accepts and is working hard to improve and it is a great piece of business from everyone at the club that was involved in making the deal happen” Martin Christie head of football operations detailed his pleasure in getting this deal over the line: “I am delighted to be able to announce that Ross has signed an extension for 2 seasons until 2027.  Since we initially spotted Ross playing at Auchinleck Talbot we have felt he has a huge amount of potential to go far in the game.  “Ross’ attacking ability offers us an excitement and drive that is difficult to find and we are extremely pleased that Ross feels that Stenhousemuir is the best place for him to continue developing over the next 2 years” please join us on congratulating to announce we have signed Scott McGill Scott is a dynamic midfielder who will bring a further option in the middle of the park heading into the second half of our season Gary Naysmith said: “Scott came through the youth ranks at Hearts and is a player who I have tried to sign several times during my managerial career He is an all round central midfield player who has good energy and likes to go box to box He can also play as a holding midfielder or as a No 10 and his versatility will give us more options in the centre of the pitch he has over 100 games under his belt and has gained good experience from playing in leagues such as the Scottish Championship Scottish League One and the League of Ireland from his recent spell at Dundalk Scott’s last competitive game was in October so we will need to be careful with how we integrate him into the team but when we get him up to full match fitness we will have a very good midfield player on our hands which will benefit the squad for the remainder of the season and beyond.” Martin Christie said: “As soon as Scott became available He’s a player we know a lot about having had him high on our recruitment lists since his time on loan at Airdrie We have continued to monitor him and feel he is an excellent age to come in and improve our squad Signing an 18 month deal allows us to continue planning for next season while ensuring we are as strong as we can be for the remaining part of this season I’d like to extend thanks to our Board for allowing us to push ahead with exciting moves like this to benefit the team on the park” Posted Midlothian The young winger has made 25 appearances in the Lowlands League this season having scored five goals.  Sam joins on loan from Dunfermline Athletic Both loans will run until the end of the season The experienced defender has made 57 appearances for Dunfermline over the course of 2 years Sam was an integral part of their League 1 title winning season.  Manager Gary Naismith shared his delight in getting both deals over the line:  “I am delighted that we have managed to add Sam & Bobby to the squad for the remainder of our league campaign and I must thank the board for making these two transfers possible “It’s been no secret that we have been actively looking to add a central defender to the squad after learning that Aaron Steele wouldn’t be returning although we have had to wait a little longer than we anticipated.  “I am delighted that we have managed to get Sam on board Sam was part of the Dunfermline Squad that won the League One title in season 22/23 and has also made around 30 appearances in the Championship over the last 2 seasons is comfortable on the ball and will increase our defensive options moving forward “Bobby is a young player that I have been aware of for some time and is someone who will increase our attacking options in the wider areas of the pitch Bobby is held in high regards at Heart of Midlothian where he trains regularly with the first team squad.  “He is a good athlete who can play on either wing and is someone who is capable of scoring or creating chances This is something that Bobby has shown on a regular basis over the last couple of seasons playing for the Hearts ‘B’ team in the Lowland League where he has scored 15 goals and had 17 assists in just over 50 games.” Martin Christie expressed his gratitude to both clubs for their swift transaction:  “When Aaron Steele was recalled by Arbroath it was vital that we bolstered that area of the pitch.  We were very keen to wait for the right person and not rush into anything and we feel we have done that in identifying Sam Fisher.  Sam has good experience for a 23-year-old and brings the attributes we were looking for into the central defensive positions “Bobby is one we have been monitoring closely for a long time and he has always impressed for Hearts B when we have seen him.  We feel he compliments the current wide midfielders well and will give Gary a different option when required “I’d like to thank David Cook at Dunfermline and Gary Kirk at Hearts for their help in getting these deals over the line” Posted by | Aug 22, 2024 | | 0 The Warriors 01324 562 992 An eight-goal thriller marked a near decade long wait for the return of the Stirlingshire Cup Gary named a very changed starting 11 for our fixture against the Bairns on Tuesday night with vital minutes being given to players returning from injury The first half in our derby fixture did not disappoint with both teams finding the back of the net within the first 10 minutes Falkirk did have their noses out in front at the break though this didn’t affect the Warrior’s fighting spirit Falkirk opened the scoring in the 5th minute after Agyeman wriggled free in the box and fired his shot into the far corner of the net The Warriors did not take long to respond and a high corner from Cameron allowed O’Donnell to head the ball back across the face of goal and on hand was Scott Tomlinson to slot his shot past the keeper This goal marked the opening of Scott Tomlinson’s goal scoring account for Stenny The Bairns doubled their lead in the 15th minute after Honeyman’s shot trickled past Lyle after a deflection Falkirk added a third that would surely see them seal three points when a great ball through found Agyeman again whose pace allowed him to charge towards goal and slot in his second of the evening but moral was still high after a solid first half performance The three points would ultimately slip away from us after a clinical Falkirk performance Stewart added a fourth for Falkirk in the 64th minute after a decent cross in allowed Stewart to glance his header beyond Lyle The Warriors did not give up hope and quickly found their scoring form again through Steele who netted his first Stenny goal with a thumping header Aitken quickly piled the pressure on the Bairns after pulling another goal back O’Reilly’s cross bounced off an unaware O’Donnell and straight through to Aitken who was ready to pounce and poke the ball in Falkirk added their fifth of the evening in the 74th minute through a rocket of a half volley from Carmichael This was not the result the current Stirlingshire Cup holders would have wanted but we must dust ourselves off for the weekend ahead as we return to league action against Cove Rangers Please make sure you join us this weekend in Aberdeen to support Gary and the boys a third derby day of the season is on the horizon as we aim for another victory over rivals Falkirk The Stirlingshire Cup returns to Ochilview Park tomorrow night where current holders the Warriors battle with Falkirk in a bid to advance to the finals but another steady performance is required to see off tough competition September was the last time we faced rivals Falkirk and Ochilview was bouncing as the Warriors went on to defeat the Bairns 6-5 on penalties Blair Alston’s goal separated the sides before in form Miller equalised for Falkirk We are hoping for a similar tangible atmosphere and performance Bucky will once again be hoping to get one over on his former side and have his hands on the Stirlingshire Cup for the first time in his career will be aiming to get themselves on the path to grabbing a 33rd title in this competition The Warriors are raring to go for the return of the Stirlingshire Cup in over a decade Saturday 21st July 2021 Aaron Comrie’s sortie forward created the opening for the first goal in 15th minute He exchanged passes with Kyle Macdonald on the right before cutting in and slipping the ball to Craig WIGHTON who avoided the offside trap and slotted past keeper Wilson The second Dunfermline goal came in 36 minutes after the Stenny keeper came out to clear the ball on the edge of his box The ball rebounded off a defender and Wighton Todorov gathered on the right byeline and his squared ball was a tap in for O’HARA WIGHTON made it 3-0 two minutes from the break after Edwards spread a great ball down the left for O’Hara to travel with and deliver a dangerous ball in that Edwards just couldn’t convert but Todorov returned to his fellow striker and with two bites hit the net In just the fourth minute of the second half there was another goal for the home support to celebrate Edwards cut the ball in from the left for O’HARA to drill a right footed shot home from six yards Robert THOMSON netted a cut back from the left to make it 4-1 midway through the half but Dunfermline saw the match out comfortably DUNFERMLINE: Owain Fôn Williams: Aaron Comrie Josh Edwards: Kevin O’Hara off to the finest of starts The Fourth Round of the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup paired Dunfermline and Stenhousemuir to meet for the first time in 15 years in this competition. For the home side it was the start of a new era with a new Head Coach announced the previous day and new club owners at lunchtime ahead of the cup tie So Michael Tidser’s first match in charge the Dunfermline team saw two changes from that which lost out to Ayr United on Tuesday night Kieran Ngwenya and Matty Todd were as sent through injury making way for starts for Joe Chalmers and David Wotherspoon Stenhousemuir made two changes to their starting eleven Kyle Jacobs and Blair Alston started since Aaron Steele had been recalled to Arbroath and Corey O’Donnell was on the bench There was one minute of applause before kick off in appreciation of Scotland legend The home side started off confidently and the League One opponents had barely touched the ball when Lewis McCann headed wide from a Kane Ritchie-Hosler cross on three minutes Three minutes later Aaron Comrie’s pass to Ritchie-Hosler on the right saw the former Rangers youth cut inside and release an effort that went agonisingly wide of the far post The Warriors first attempt came in ninth minute Tommy Fogarty’s challenge on Matty Yates afforded the visitors a free kick just 23 yards out Yates took the set play himself but rattled the ball past the right upright Ritchie-Hosler ran on to a sweet pass from Wotherspoon but could only win a corner on the right The Pars would score the opener from this the first corner of the afternoon It was Chalmers’ left foot that delivered the danger Chris Kane narrowly missed connecting at the near post but the ball was deflected off the back of Euan O’Reilly to Chris HAMILTON who shot the Fifers into a 16th minute lead Ewan Otoo had a chance in the glorious category three minutes later when Chalmers swung the ball in from the right to drop the ball at the 22 year old’s feet six yards from goal but he failed to get the necessary touch Dunfermline had everyone back for a 27th minute Stenny free kick launched towards the Pars box by Yates out on the right but Kyle Banner’s header dropped for Tobi Oluwayemi to gather with ease A McCann run was not rewarded with the corner it deserved then minutes later was just to deep to convert a Kane cross The Warriors Michael Anderson broke through on the Pars goal in 32 minutes but Oluwayemi came out to block the one on one Wotherspoon and Chalmers took the next Dunfermline corner but they were closed out and as a result there was no cross from it A second Dunfermline goal came four minutes from the break McCann worked his way in from the left and released a shot that broke off Kane to OTOO and this time with three touches composed himself to drill the ball away forcefully Dunfermline were out early for the restart and those fans not back in their seats missed goal number three since the ball was in the Stenhousemuir net within 40 seconds of the second half kicking off Chalmers switched the ball to Ritchie-Hosler who made ground up the right into the Stenny box to deliver the perfect ball to the far post where McCANN converted McCann and then Kane from a McCann cross both had chances Michael Tidser’s first change was the introduction in 64 minutes of Craig Wighton and Josh Cooper and the latter immediately had an opportunity from a Comrie cross but headed the ball narrowly over the Warriors crossbar Next Cooper cut the ball back into the centre of the Stenny box but Wighton was not close enough to strike The visitors had several second half corners but the Pars defence was hardly troubled by them The match had fizzled out a bit but a passing move up the left from Otoo to McCann saw the ball whizz across the visitors six yard box with Ritchie-Hosler nearly notching a fourth Pars goal Hamilton made keeper Darren Jamieson save from long range and then the keeper denied Chalmers what would have been his first ever Dunfermline goal from a Cooper cut back Tidser took a look at two more of his squad withdrawing Lewis McCann and Kane Ritchie-Hosler to give game time to Dapo Mebude and Michael O’Halloran his first appearance since August Kane Ritchie-Hosler who had gone off to a standing ovation Dunfermline successfully through to Monday evening’s Fifth Round draw and the with a brace from Tony Wallace earning Sons a draw against Alloa Athletic whilst the Warriors 3-0 win at Cove Rangers took them to the summit of the division Dumbarton boss Stevie Farrell was encouraged by another positive showing against the Wasps during the week though was disappointed they couldn’t hold on for all three points.  he said: “We responded really well to an early setback on Tuesday and managed to turn the game around before creating a couple of chances at 2-1 that we should have taken to put the game out of sight “The squad have shown great character to put all of the off the field issues behind them when it comes to taking to the pitch which is no surprise to me because they are a great dressing room We’ll need that same effort and mentality throughout the rest of the season “The league remains extremely tight but Stenhousemuir are where they are on merit and it’s going to be another difficult afternoon for us tomorrow “If we continue to show the same fight we have shown in recent weeks and take the chances when they come our way we give ourselves of a positive outcome against any team in this division.” Matty Shiels returns to the match day squad though
