Knaphill’s season ended in disappointment as they fell to an emphatic 5-0 defeat at Tadley Calleva in the Combined Counties Premier Division South.
With sixth place up for grabs, the home side rose to the occasion in blustery conditions, displaying a ruthless edge that Knaphill could not match.
On a windy afternoon, Tadley adapted quickest and struck inside two minutes. Brad Neal drove a low cross into the box that bounced awkwardly on the surface, and Brett Denham got across his marker to flick the ball into the far corner and give the hosts an early lead.
Just four minutes later, Denham doubled his tally with a goal that summed up Tadley’s sharpness in the final third. A driven cross from the right by Aime Kamdem skipped across the face of goal before reaching Denham at the far side of the box. Unmarked, he had time to control the ball and blast it into the bottom right-hand corner.
The third goal arrived in the 69th minute after a driving run from Scott Costello opened up space. He found substitute Jack French, whose shot was blocked bravely by James Glover. The ball bounced kindly to Alex Miller, who steered a controlled volley past Knappers keeper Sam Gray to make it 3-0.
Tadley’s fourth was a moment of quick thinking from Kieran Rodgers. Awarded a free kick 35 yards from goal, Rodgers took it quickly and caught Gray off his line. Carried by the wind, the ball curled high into the top corner.
The fifth and final goal was the pick of the bunch. A long diagonal ball from captain Jordan Goater found Rodgers in space on the right-hand side. He met it first time on the volley, sending a thunderous strike across goal and into the top corner.

Tadley Calleva blew away Knaphill to seal sixth place and finish their league campaign
Knaphill knew that a win at Barlow’s Park would see them leapfrog Tadley and become the ‘best of the rest’
as they decimated their opponents to end the league season in dominant fashion
as all-time leading goalscorer Brett Denham struck within two minutes to put his side ahead
They had a huge chance at a second just moments later too
Aime Kamdem did fantastically well on the right
creating space before drilling a dangerous driven cross into the box on the half-volley
Denham showed his striker’s instincts to convert

leaving the Knaphill players to debate with each other as their shot at sixth place withered in front of them
Connor Thorne had a great chance to make it three as the second-half got underway
as Alex Miller delivered the goods in the 69th minute to make it 3-0 to Tadley
He arrived off the bench to clip a beautiful shot past the Knaphill keeper
Another man arriving off the bench was Kieran Rodgers
and Tadley’s talisman wasted no time getting amongst the goals
He showed quick thinking to hit a free-kick early
which pinged in off the post from 35-yards to make it 4-0
A few minutes later he struck again to make it 5-0
Jordan Goater’s through ball found Rodgers at the back post
who dinked the ball over the keeper to wrap things up for Tadley

A DRUG-driver pleaded for leniency because his partner was taken ill at the wheel
Sammy Cole appeared in the dock at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Thursday
said: “Around 7.20pm police stopped a grey Volkswagen Polo which was believed to have been involved in theft offences.”
was at the wheel and there was a strong smell of cannabis in the car
Mr Echakowitz added: “Almost at once he admitted he had no licence or insurance and the vehicle wasn’t displaying ‘L’ plates
“There was a bag of cannabis next to him on the passenger seat and a roadside drug swipe was positive.”
Police did not charge Cole with drug possession
However he admitted driving when the amount of a cannabis metabolite in his system exceeded the prescribed limit
He further admitted driving without a valid licence and driving without insurance
All the offences were committed on Kintons Farm Road
said: “The only reason I was driving was because my partner had a cyst at the time and was in great pain
“It started hurting really bad; we pulled over and I said: ‘I’ll drive us home.’
“I know I shouldn’t have done but I was worried she would crash because of the pain.”
stating: “I’m asking you to show a bit of leniency towards me.”
Judge Goozee responded: “You did have alternatives; it wasn’t emergency enough to justify you getting behind the wheel of that car
“And it’s not the first time you’ve driven with no insurance.”
He added: “I appreciate you thought you were doing the right thing for your partner but this placed both you and the public at risk
“You are more likely to have an accident if you’re over the limit for drink or drugs.”
had an accident happened in which his partner was injured
he had no insurance with which to cover costs
No order was made for costs but he was ordered to pay a statutory victim services surcharge

A town council has raised concerns over plans to install an underground cable in allotments
It would connect a solar farm being built in Tadley Hill to a community allotment in Rowan Road run by Green Health Tadley
The project aims to link up those facing isolation
It is envisaged the solar system would support the group’s running costs
while showcasing the impact of renewable energy
Green Health has an area of around the size of six allotment plots off Rowan Road
and the solar system is intended for power lighting
has applied to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council for permission to carry out the works that would connect the 15 large scale solar panels with the allotment
with the cable running through land currently used as parking space by a community group
The cable would run across a 36.6 sq m plot
and is expected to take up to a fortnight to install
But Tadley Town Council says there are errors in the application
Following a meeting of its planning committee on August 27
town clerk Nicki Barry wrote to the borough council to lodge its views
“The application form states the applicant owns the land
the land is owned by the Allotments for the Labouring Poor Charity
who have received no communication regarding this,” the comments note
“The planning statement states that the land is used for additional parking for the social enterprise
“This is incorrect as the land is used by all the plot holders
some of whom are already disappointed that part of the parking area has been occupied by the solar panels.”
The application was submitted to Basingstoke and Borough Deane Council on Thursday
Permission for the 15 solar panels was submitted to the same council in September 2022
Tadley Town Council ‘positively welcomed’ this proposal
A spokesperson for Anesco praised the work of Green Health
and said the solar project would help them
“Green Health Tadley is a fantastic project that supports the local community
but also in benefitting from the mental and physical health of gardening,” it said
Anesco has joined forces with some trusted partners to provide the project with the free supply and installation of solar panels and a battery unit
“The power generated by the solar panels will be used on site
long-term sustainable source of power and helping future-proof against rising costs
“The project underpins Anesco’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”
It added: “Having already secured planning approval for the solar and battery
the recently submitted application regards a small underground cable
which will feed the energy from the solar panels to the polytunnel
“It will be on the boundary of the car park
having no effect on where users of the allotment can park
“We will continue to liaise closely with the landowners
trustees and other stakeholders at every stage.”
The application can be seen by logging on to https://planning.basingstoke.gov.uk and searching for 24/01828/FULFormer Allotments
The swimming pool at Tadley Health and Fitness Centre will close for a period of nearly two months while “vital work” is carried out to upgrade it
The centre announced that the pool will be closed from Monday
until the New Year so that work can be done to replace the pool’s moveable floor
The pool work is part of an ongoing improvement project at the centre
which saw its health suite being completely renovated with a brand new steam room
sauna and showers at the cost of £200,000 at the end of last year
A centre spokesperson said: “Replacing the moveable floor is essential to ensure the smooth running of the pool in years to come and supports our desire us to continue to meet the swimming needs of the community
“We understand how valuable our pool is and we know its closure during this time may cause some frustration.”
Tadley Health and Fitness Centre has stated that all its members will be contacted by email with information about the closure and the “additional opportunities to exercise and swim that we are making available during this time”
Members undertaking swimming lessons will also be contacted by the centre with information detailing changes to lessons
with the lessons likely to be moved to Basingstoke’s Aquadrome
The centre also encouraged anyone with questions about the closure to contact them in person
Some Tadley residents took to social media to react to the news of the pool’s renovation and closure
Nikki Jane had recently signed up her daughter for swimming lessons at the centre
She said: “At no point were we told this was happening
I would have never signed her up if she can’t have the lessons going forward for two months
“I am very disappointed at the lack of communication and profit has clearly been put above honesty.”
Tilehurst resident Lyn Smith said: “Other half and I signed up two months ago for a monthly subscription coming from Tilehurst as viewed pool and facilities and felt comfortable there
“Not once were we told this information and it’s not a decision that would have been made overnight
Let down completely and will be cancelling the subscription.”
Andy Cook felt more positive about the news
He said: “Good to see more investment for our swimming pool
Tadley came together to celebrate the beginning of the festive season at the town’s annual Christmas tree light switch-on at the weekend
The community celebration took place on Friday evening (November 29) and it saw the North Hampshire town welcome the holidays in style
The tree lights were switched on at 7pm by Tadley Town Council chair Avril Burdett
North West Hampshire MP Kit Malthouse and two of The Anvil’s Christmas pantomime stars
Elly Jay as Princess Rose and Jenny O'Leary as Carabosse from Sleeping Beauty
Ms Burdett said: “It was really great and really well attended
“It was lovely to see newborn babies who are wondering what the heck was going on all the way up to the great-grandparents altogether
Alongside the light switch-on there were singing performances from the West Berkshire Rock Choir and carols with schoolchildren from Burnham Copse Primary School
Ms Burdett said that both of the choirs “really set everyone in the Christmas mood” with everyone joining in with the singing
The popular Christmas market was as successful as ever
Families were also entertained by Juggling Jake
The Grinch and Princess Belle from Jollypop Entertainment and a merry-go-round
The event also managed to raise £450 for Citizens Advice Tadley
The swimming pool at Tadley Health and Fitness Centre will re-open tomorrow (Saturday) ahead of schedule following an extensive refurbishment project
The pool closed on November 4 so that upgrade work could be carried out to the pool’s movable floor and various other areas of the facility
It wasn’t expected to re-open until the New Year
but the works have been completed early and the pool will be available for use during the school holidays
Basingstoke and Deane councillor Kerry Morrow (Lib Dem
Kingsclere Baughurst) said: “I am delighted that the essential work to upgrade the movable floor in the swimming pool at Tadley Health and Fitness Centre has been completed ahead of schedule
“We know what a valuable facility this is to the people of Tadley and the surrounding areas
which is why this investment to ensure the smooth running of the swimming pool for years to come was so important
“There was never going to be a good time to close the pool for a number of weeks
but we have worked hard with Basingstoke and Deane Community Leisure Trust and the specialist contractor to minimise the disruption to users
“I would like to thank members and users for their patience during the closure and hope they will be pleased to get back into the pool earlier than anticipated.”
the centre team carried out a range of upgrade work
and installing new lighting around the swimming pool and in the communal shower areas
The pool has also benefited from a thorough deep clean
Tadley Health and Fitness Centre are offering new customers the chance to join now and pay nothing till February 1
There will also be a pool party tomorrow which will feature a visit from Santa Claus
Existing customers will be able to take advantage of a series of new offers that are also being launched

Tadley Calleva’s play-off hunt continued on Saturday with another vital three points
Cobham came to visit on a sunny day at Barlow’s Park
but there was no time for Calleva to relax
Manager Joe Lawler went with his strongest side
but there was a place on the bench for youngster Wenzel Sar
The opening stages were marked by a frenetic midfield battle
but there was little in the way of chances early on
The first shot of the game came 34 minutes in
as Cobham fired over Craig Atkinson’s goal
as Joe Cummuskey slid in to deny an opening goal
Tadley knew that a point would do little to aid their play-off push
as Brad Neal set up Kieron Farmer for a header which went just over
In the 66th minute Tadley finally went ahead
as Jordan Goater’s shot from a free-kick was deflected into the Cobham net for 1-0
All-time top scorer Brett Denham was looking dangerous
and he had the ball in the net a few minutes later
but just moments later Denham finally had his goal
A looping free-kick found the striker in the box
who nodded a header over the keeper to wrap things up at 2-0
An excellent team performance saw Tadley compete in a scrappy first-half
The win puts pressure on the final play-off place
There was additional success for Tadley’s Sheldon Wright
who won once again in a boxing match on Saturday evening
Tadley will be hoping to land a knock-out blow of their own when they host Horley this weekend
Tadley Calleva have sealed their place in the Aldershot Senior Cup Final
They travelled to Woking in mid-week to face current holders Westfield FC in the semi-finals
and it was Brad Neal who stepped up when it mattered most
but Jordan Goater was able to get it back into the box where Neal rose above the crowds to nod it home
Calleva’s 1-0 lead lasted less than ten minutes however
as Westfield’s Gary Abisogan weaved through the centre of the pitch and set up a quick headed equaliser
As the second-half began both sides were hoping to quickly take control of the semi
as Ash Neal smashed home to put his side 2-1 up just before the hour-mark
Tadley looked to be on their way to the final
but an agonising Westfield equaliser with ten minutes to go levelled it up at 2-2
the semi-final would be decided by a penalty shootout
it was goalkeeper Craig Atkinson who proved to be Calleva’s saviour
He saved three out of four penalties to send Calleva into the final
The Aldershot Senior Cup Final will be played on Tuesday 6th May at Aldershot Town’s EBB Stadium
They travelled to Epsom & Ewell in their penultimate game of the season
putting them 1-0 up with a nineteenth minute strike
Epsom replied with two second-half strikes to sink Calleva however
Tadley are six points off the top-five with just one game left to play
before attention turns to their cup final next month
as they made the trip to face Jersey Bulls
Calleva had enjoyed a night to remember in the week
as they delivered a cup upset to knock National League side Eastleigh FC out of the Hampshire Senior Cup
Eastleigh had gone in front after Connor Underhill stuck the ball into the top right corner
but it was Sol Ceesay who came off the bench to equalise for Tadley in the dying moments
continuing a cup run which saw them knock out National League South side Farnborough earlier in the season
Tadley faced a trip to Jersey to play an unbeaten team who sit third in the Combined Counties Premier Division South
The most unique away day of the season proved to be one of the most difficult for Joe Lawler’s side
as they faced a series of early chances on Craig Atkinson’s goal
A series of early saves from the Tadley keeper kept his side’s heads above water
as Bulls piled on the pressure in the first half an hour
A test of speed down the right side saw Kieron Farmer appear to get caught up on the 4G pitch and go down injured
later being stretchered off and applauded by the 688 in attendance
Atkinson did well to save the resulting chance
but Toby Ritzema was there to tap in the rebound for 1-0
with Tadley unable to gain a foothold in the contest
Jersey forward Rai Dos Santos was sent to the sin bin for ten minutes just before the hour mark
but upon his return Bulls threatened again
A 35-yard strike then smashed the Tadley crossbar and bounced back down on it to provide a warning shot
A good delivery led to a scramble in the box
but the loose ball rolled over the line for 2-0
Bulls made it three in the 94th minute to send Tadley home and continue their unbeaten run
just three points away from the play-offs and still with multiple games in hand on the sides above them
Tadley Calleva’s chances of a play-off run are all but finished
They hosted Horley Town on Saturday at a sun-kissed Barlow’s Park
knowing that a win was vital to keep their hopes alive
There were three changes from the win over Cobham a week prior
Adam Everiss and Sheldon Wright were awarded starts
A scrappy opening sequence saw a yellow for winger Alex Miller
with neither side looking particularly comfortable
Horley took their chance when it came however
as a ball to the edge of the box was rifled past Craig Atkinson to put the hosts 1-0 down
but Tadley’s task became much harder when they gave the ball away in their own half
and a Miller effort wide of the post was the nearest they’d get to a reply as the first-half drew to a close
Tadley knew they needed another trademark comeback to keep their already slim play-off hopes alive
The second-half did see the fighting spirit required
Brad Neal saw a header go wide from just a few yards out
before manager Joe Lawler rolled the dice with some substitutes
With ten minutes to go Horley made it three
leaving the Horley attackers to clean up and snatch a 3-0 lead
They added a fourth just a few minutes later
before Ash Neal bagged a consolation in added time
A 4-1 loss leaves Calleva six points off the play-offs with two games left to play
Any late entry into the play-offs is not impossible
Tadley face Epsom & Ewell away from home on Saturday
before hosting Knaphill on the final day in a fortnight’s time
