special store for me and I did my first team management placement here It’s my third spell here in a different capacity The last store manager described the store as unique the weekends are busy and the start of the week quiet a lot of single army personnel go away for the weekend and come back Monday We can have a last-minute call that 20 people are going to need to change their hours because of an exercise that wasn’t known about agile and providing for our colleagues so they can provide for our customers Single army personnel tend to shop more frequently during the week whereas families will follow a more normal shopping pattern and come at the weekends How was trade for Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day What was really sweet was watching a lot of the army personnel include their children as well as their partner in Valentine’s Day They were buying cards and gifts for their kids to make them feel included which is different to other stores I’ve worked in Then on Mother’s Day it was flowers and chocolates where a lot of the spouses can be on their own A few of our regulars are quite keen gardeners – they’re always onto us about when the new gardening lines are coming in so the range will grow over the next four to five weeks I’ve got one colleague who is really passionate about gardening and he really takes ownership of the outside and the car park What is your sense of shopper sentiment going into the rest of the year There’s a lot of excitement for more sunny days It certainly brings a different atmosphere and an uplift We saw lots of conversation about our BBQ ranges over the weekend We’ve got some exciting new meat ranges coming in including the return of our good old favourite gnomes How are you marking 30 years of Clubcard in store there are some Tidworth have been recognised for going the extra mile to support those in their community 40-year-old Bogdan Bacinschi and his wife Louise were awarded the Neighbour of the Year title at the 2025 Tidworth Community Awards in February for the help they provide residents The father of two is a familiar face to Tidworth residents as he is often spotted out and about delivering packages for Evri having worked at the company since 2019 The pair have been described by locals as the town’s community neighbours as they routinely go above and beyond to help others This includes helping a pregnant about people’s deliveries as well as being active in many local groups made even more special by the fact it’s nominated by the local community,” Bogdan said “Having lived in Tidwell for the past decade and just a small act of kindness can really go a long way.” It’s this generosity displayed by Bogdan and Louise that highlights the important role they play within the town with the pair having previously been acknowledged with an award a few years ago for their dedication shown to the town and its community during the Covid-19 pandemic Bogdan and Louise’s anonymous nomination for their award reads: “Bogdan and Louise are not my neighbours personally but I think they fall perfectly under the neighbour category as they are Tidworth’s Community Neighbours “I and the rest of Tidworth see Bogdan out working every day; not only do he and Louise work multiple jobs while raising their family but they also look out for and help anyone who needs it in a neighbourly fashion “I have read about how Bogdan saw a pregnant mum struggling with her shopping and he would stop and help her get it into her house safely “He has heard that people have needed help to get second-hand furniture from one local house to another “Louise is the backbone of the family; while Bogdan is out working he is singing Louise’s praises to all who chat to him about how she raises the kids and helps out with deliveries “She is often active online answering people’s questions and going above and beyond for the community and I personally feel that Tidworth would be lost without them.” We live in a village close to Tidworth and have known Bogdan for the last 4 years during covid and having a water repair problem in the village with no water for a week Bogdan so kindly went to our local village store and bought water to us without accepting any payment Always has a smile and a very nice person to know PEOPLE that are struggling to feed themselves in Tidworth are being encouraged to make use of a new food bank in the town The Tidworth food bank officially opened its doors at the Tidworth Leisure Centre yesterday (April 3) This is the ninth centre that has been set up by the Salisbury Foodbank said the food bank was busy from the moment they opened the door with some local agencies attending to see how they can refer people alongside four families who came to collect food parcels “It’s quite encouraging that people came on the first day as it suggests we got the word out about the food bank but it’s a sad situation that people need our services,” she said “We’re so grateful that we are in a position to support people; however we wish that food banks didn’t have to exist and that everyone could be in a position to buy their own food.” READ MORE: Salisbury’s New Look building to be turned into flats under new plans – with no affordable housing the Salisbury Foodbank feeds 600 people three meals a day 38% of those 600 people who receive food parcels are children The Tidworth food bank rose from the ashes of the Spurgeons Children Centre which worked in partnership with Salisbury Foodbank before its closure they noticed more people in Tidworth struggling to access the food bank centres in Salisbury and Amesbury we support a large area in south-west Wiltshire from SP1 to SP5 and SP9,” she said “We’re centric to Salisbury and Amesbury as that is where the demand is – but we were very conscious that lots of people live out in the extremities and actually there is less support in these areas “We used to work in partnership with Spurgeons Children’s Centres and they closed down their centre in Tidworth around 12 months ago we saw a decline in food parcels being used in that area “We’ve noticed over time that more people said they need a food bank in that area as they can’t get into Salisbury and Amesbury easily to collect those emergency food parcels Cupboards at the Tidworth Food Bank which was put together by the Tidworth and Ludgershall Men’s Shed Picture: Salisbury Foodbank “Tidworth falls on the border of Ludgershall which is looked after by Andover food bank which initially picked up some of the demand for food parcels when the Spurgeons centre closed the Andover food bank struggled to meet the demand in Tidworth and so we looked for a good location to set up in the town “We spent time getting the logistics in place and trained up volunteers – and I’m very happy to say we opened yesterday.” Maria expressed the importance for people to not feel ashamed if they require the food bank services admitting they need help is the hardest part But Salisbury Foodbank centres offer a judgement-free space “There’s always this fear that people might judge you but that is never the case with us,” she added “I’ve been at a point in my life where I’ve needed friends and family to buy food for me “I didn’t know about food banks at that time that’s a very scary and dark place when you know you need help but you don’t know where to turn please just talk to other people as that’s the easiest thing you can do to your children’s schools or even Wiltshire Council if you are a council housing tenant as these organisations can refer you to the food bank “It takes a lot of bravery to admit that you need help “Our website lists the best avenues for people to pursue and there’s a free phone number that people can use (0808 2082138) to chat with trained advisors about problems and signpost the best support “If they deem that you need a food parcel which you could take to a food bank centre to redeem for three days worth of emergency food.” The Salisbury Foodbank also offers a fresh fruit and veg delivery to complement the emergency food parcels Volunteers are needed for the Tidworth food bank on Thursdays (3.15pm to 5.30pm) and helpers are needed in Salisbury at St Pauls on Wednesdays and Fridays (both 10.40am to 2.15pm) and at the Bemerton Foodbank Centre on Tuesday afternoon/early evenings Visit the Salisbury left unconscious through alcohol Police said incidents largely involved ‘young people’ including the teen who was left unconscious after drinking too much “Ongoing assaults were reported throughout the evening to the Neighbourhood Team and PC Kinsey from Salisbury Response while on hotspot foot patrols,” a police spokesperson said “PC Kinsey would like to ask parents ‘do you know where your children are?’ “Many of the young people we have spoken to openly admit that they have lied to their parents saying they are at youth clubs or staying with friends.” PC Kinsey added: “We’re concerned that parents are unaware of what their children are up to late into the evening and that they are unsupervised and could be vulnerable “It is your parental responsibility to know where your children ALWAYS in the park during evening hours empty packets all over the park) vandalising the park communal areas in the blocks and breaking into empty nearby (MOD) houses this keeps being reported and yet there is never a police patrol doing safety checks or anything like this despite having a police station on the doorstep This has been taken too far this time and I am totally not surprised to read this Maybe police will start being more responsible and parents will actually start caring where their kids are There is only so much residents of the area can do we also put posts up about it on Tidworth Parkrun – Event Number 99 – 8th June 2024 Tidworth is also home to the largest military training area and the alignment of this parkrun’s birthday on the 80th anniversary of D-Day had a poetic nature enabling an enjoyable parkrun at an appropriate location On arrival I joined the first-timers briefing to find out that we were also running a new route around the park This new route is a two-lap course utilising a lot of the park and incorporating some of the polo pitch of Tidworth Park Polo Club The RD gave the main event briefing where milestones were recognised (including 2 reaching the 250 milestone!) and volunteers thanked and applauded The route is mostly grass except for a short stretch through a tree line; the previously long grass had been freshly cut which made the going soft where the cuttings remained on the route the recent dry weather meant there was no sign of mud or puddles and the ground was hard important for those used to running on tarmac paths weaving around the park with some hair pin bends which give the opportunity to wave to friends The small number of laps is always a bonus with reducing the number of times you are lapped by the front runners And for the most important statistic of the day: Tidworth parkrun smashed their participation record with a phenomenal 276 runners The stats show the support the team managed to channel – of the 276 runners 70 were first time runners at Tidworth with 19 of these completing their first parkrun All that is left to say is a huge thank you to the volunteers for putting on a great parkrun From managing the car parking and the finish funnel marshalling a new route and making sure everyone had a great time and we know that parkruns everywhere would not exist without the support of the volunteers
