Tilbury Douglas hopes to grow its orderbook to £2bn
its new chief executive has said after reporting rise in turnover and profits last year
In the company’s newly released annual report for the year ending 31 December 2024
It said its order book at the end of 2024 stood at £1.3bn
Tilbury Douglas chief executive Craig Tatton said the group would aim high under a refreshed future strategy
“Our objective is to become the leading contractor in our chosen sectors by 2029
recognised by stakeholders for the quality and consistency of our project delivery and value creation,” he said
sector-leading net promoter scores and net margins of 3.5 per cent by 2029.”
Its overall pre-tax margin stood at 2.2 per cent in 2024
The contractor was formerly one of the largest arms of the £3.2bn-turnover Interserve plc before it was spun off from the plc’s successor company Interserve Group in June 2022
Interserve trustees still own a significant part of the company
who was previously chief operating officer since 2022
Its largest area of activity in 2024 was in regional building and fit-out
which generated revenue of £436.2m with a gross margin of 9 per cent
The division’s turnover was up from £424.5m in 2023
Some 90 per cent of the group’s overall revenue comes from long-term frameworks for repeat clients
with most of its work within the education
Tatton said its improved performance was achieved by focusing on public and regulated sectors that are low-risk and provide long-term stability
The Labour government’s priority investment areas – which include schools
defence and justice – are all areas where the group is well-positioned
Tilbury Douglas chair Nick Pollard added that those sectors and the water industry are “areas which provide long-term opportunities with intelligent clients: aligning procurement routes that value social and environmental benefit alongside price
“These sectors offer a strong foundation and enable us to build lasting partnerships,” he said

Former Interserve subsidiary posts turnover of £542m for 2024
Tilbury Douglas continued its recovery last year with turnover up by 7% to £542m and profit up by 30% to £16.6m
The former Interserve subsidiary, which became a standalone business three years ago, had made a pre-tax loss of £94m in 2022 before rebounding to a £12.9m profit the following year.

the firm said its performance had been “again outstanding” with the group remaining debt free and finishing the year with cash of £50.7m
It said it had secured more than £637m of new contracts and orders last year
amassing a forward order book which reached £1.32bn in March 2025
The firm’s building and fit out arms have been the primary drivers of growth
with 90% of revenue coming from long-term frameworks for repeat clients
The accounts come after the appointment of Craig Tatton as chief executive in November last year
who joined from Kier in 2019 and led a restructure of the firm after its separation from Interserve

Charlotte Tilbury fans, listen up: the glamorous make-up artist has launched four new facial sculpting formulas. She’s been dominating the world of contour since the Hollywood wands launched in 2017, and now, after extending the shade range earlier this year
she’s released a two-step lip contour system
a dimension-building face palette and a dual-end precision sculpting brush
Tilbury goes as far as to say that the contour system will “give an instant lifted
snatched and defined effect.” These claims are all well and good
the only thing capable of achieving that quick a transformation is a hefty syringe of dermal filler – and
what if these products actually live up to the marketing

I used the nudegasm face palette to accentuate bone structure
applying the ashy shades to my face’s natural hollows and the shimmers to its high points
witnessed Tilbury herself explaining the proper use and application for all the sculpt and glow formulas
Tilbury’s latest releases are a masterclass in easy at-home sculpting
the lip cheat contour duo added depth and fullness to my mouth within a matter of minutes
Applying the fair pencil’s sculpt end around the edge of my mouth and under the hollow of my bottom lip
I was wowed by how the creamy formula glided across the surface of my skin without dragging
As I’ve seen creators on TikTok do in many a make-up tutorial
I overlined the lips with the sculpt pencil to see if the contour effect would better mask this attempt at faux plumping
after swiping the equally buttery fill end onto the centre of my pout
saw that my lips appeared instantly voluminous

Following on from the lip cheat duo, I topped off my pre-primed and lined lips with the unfortunately-named big lip plumpgasm
the plumpgasm gloss isn’t actually a new release
but its nudegasm diamond shade is brand new
Combined with the contour from the fair pencil
I found that the diamond shade was a perfect complement to highlight the natural fullness around the centre and cupid’s bow areas of the lips
with tin oxide and pearlescent synthetic fluorphlogopite
This formula swipes on much like a normal lip gloss; however
and your lips will be tingling thanks to the included chilli pepper (capsicum frutescens resin) and menthol-like (methyl diisopropyl propionamide) ingredients
Though the brand claims to have seen increased
long-lasting plumping of up to 25 per cent after twice daily application over two weeks
this test was only carried out on 33 participants
the plumpgasm gloss created a short-lived fullness that was simply a fun
Following on from the lip cheat duo, I topped off my pre-primed and lined lips with the unfortunately-named big lip plumpgasm
I applied the plumpgasm gloss to the central
This formula swipes on much like a normal lip gloss; however

As someone who usually takes a cream or liquid approach to contouring
I was intrigued by the idea of four powder products in a one-stop-shop palette
it’s been brought back (and repackaged) for fans after an initial launch more than five years ago
I kicked off with the soft sculpt shade (bottom right) to contour my nose
I did this with a horizontal line across the lower third of the bridge
followed by two vertical lines on either side of the bridge
roughly from the tear ducts down to the nostrils
Buffed out with the fluffier end of the brush
this created a faux uplift towards the end of my nose
as well as ‘snatching’ the width of the bridge
I combined this with pops of the super glow shade (top left) on the tip and upper bridge of the nose for a more dramatic effect
For my cheekbones and temples, I continued using the soft sculpt hue in the buccal fat area to create some Bella Hadid-esque hollows
and around my hairline for a more lifted finish
I then deepened the shadows as needed with the darker super sculpt shade (bottom left)
I added a few sweeps of the super glow to my upper cheekbones
chin and central forehead to really hammer home the illusion of depth

using Tilbury’s multi-glow shade (top right) with a fluffier brush
I worked in some blush warmth across my cheeks
This was a welcome addition to combat the initial harshness of the contour-highlight contrast
I was in awe during this entire process. As someone who’s always been self-conscious about their nose, I was stunned at how akin my nose contour was to a non-invasive rhinoplasty (in short, filler) and how the hollows of my cheeks appeared as though I’d hopped on the buccal fat removal trend of 2022
The two highlighter shades balanced everything out with a youthful glow
I think Tilbury’s comparison to a “full face filter” isn’t far off
Even as someone who reviews makeup for a living
I used the soft sculpt shade to create false definition around my cheekbones and nose
For my cheekbones and temples, I continued using the soft sculpt hue in the buccal fat area to create some Bella Hadid-esque hollows

and it works equally well when carving and buffing out definition without moving your foundation
but found the densely-packed fluffy end worked well to combat the dreaded ‘drawn-on’ look
but I didn’t find it easy to blend larger areas of shadow
owing to the minute size (1cm circumference approx.) of both ends

you might also find your shimmers become dulled by any residual contour on the bristles and

And yet Naughty Talk may have just pipped it to the post
The colour is a neutral nude-toned pink that feels like the perfect your-lips-but-better hue
It's slightly cooler than Pillow Talk
and it works beautifully on all skin tones
For 'no make-up days' I apply a quick slick for a little definition and when I'm after more 'oomph' I swipe on multiple generous layers
While I'm a huge Pillow Talk fan (have I mentioned this?) the OG can dry down on my notoriously dehydrated lips
Naughty Talk is made with a hefty hit of antioxidant rich bixa orellana (better known in beauty circles as the lipstick tree) which leaves lips feeling soft
It's also formulated with a clever type of wax which prevents the colour from bleeding outside the lip line
And as someone who often forgeos liner in the name of sheer laziness
My only gripe is it's not as long-lasting as I like - I find myself regularly topping up to maintain the colour
but that's often part and parcel of wearing a more hydrating lipstick - there tends to be more slip
it's a small price to pray when the finish is such a pretty one

National Grid has received full planning approval for the Grain to Tilbury project from Thurrock Council in Essex and Gravesham Borough Council in Kent
a key milestone in strengthening the UK’s energy network
this essential infrastructure project will replace the existing Thames Cable Tunnel and help to upgrade the electricity network in the region
the current tunnel and cables have reached the end of their operational life.
The project involves the construction of a new 2.3-kilometre tunnel beneath the River Thames
Cable sealing end compounds will also be installed to connect the new underground cable to the wider electricity network
Ferrovial in partnership with BEMO (Ferrovial BEMO JV) has now begun construction
which is expected to complete in 2029.
National Grid is planning further refurbishment of the overhead line between Tilbury
and local communities will be consulted as plans progress

More than 500 people joined the fun at a special event celebrating new extended opening hours for Tilbury Library
Tilbury Library is now open six days a week
with extended hours on Tuesday and Thursday
residents of all ages were invited down to the library on Saturday 8 February to take part in a number of fun sessions such as a storytime

National Grid has secured full planning approval for the Grain to Tilbury project
which includes a new power tunnel under the River Thames
This development marks a significant step towards enhancing the UK’s energy infrastructure as part of the ambitious Great Grid Upgrade initiative
aimed at modernising the nation’s electricity grid
The project received the green light from both Thurrock Council in Essex and Gravesham Borough Council in Kent
which will host the two ends of the new infrastructure
The new 2.3km tunnel beneath the Thames will replace the outdated Thames Cable Tunnel originally built in 1969
which currently houses high-voltage transmission cables
has reached the end of its operational lifespan and is no longer able to meet current energy demands effectively
The plans for the project include not only the new tunnel and cabling but also the construction of two headhouses at either end
which will facilitate access to the system
cable sealing end compounds will be created to integrate the new underground cable with the larger electricity network
Construction has already commenced, led by Ferrovial in partnership with BEMO under a £230M contract
The tunnel will be constructed using a tunnel boring machine (TBM) launched from a 41m deep shaft on the Tilbury side of the river and received in a 39m deep shaft sunk on the Gravesend side
The TBM will pipe jack its way under the river
Steelwork such as stairways will then be installed in the shafts
Site infrastructure will then be added to connect to the overhead powerlines and take the electricity onwards
power cables will be run through the tunnels
This upgrade is crucial as the UK aims to enhance the efficiency and reliability of its electricity supply while also striving towards a greener energy future
The project is in alignment with the government’s target to supply all homes and businesses with renewable energy by 2030

National Grid has outlined plans for further improvements to the overhead power lines connecting Tilbury
with refurbishment works currently slated for 2028
Community engagement will be a priority as development plans move forward

particularly as the “dupe” craze in beauty has hit a fever pitch in recent years

where visitors can receive express and full-length treatments; hundreds of appointments have already been made
for the likes of high-profile brides like Kate Moss and Amal Clooney

“I’ve done Kate Moss on a beach with some freckles,” she said
where I’ve been able to take all of that high fashion world and red carpet glamour world and turn it into a consumer brand.”

The project is part of a broader programmes of infrastructure upgrades and reinforcements planned by National Grid as part of The Great Grid Upgrade

At the beginning of the month, it was announced a new national network of charging stations for eHGVs would be built, with the first 15 ‘superhubs’ to be opened by the end of 2027
Motorway services operator Moto plans to install up to 300 charging bays for eHGVs at 23 strategic locations by 2030

I wanted to find out if the new shades offer that trademark Tilbury radiance
surprising I hadn’t given the Hollywood contour wands a whirl until now
First launched in 2017, the wands soon became hero products for many people. However, only two shades – fair-medium and medium-deep – were available back then, meaning you were out of luck if your skin tone required a shade either side of those on offer
as the formerly limited shade range has been expanded with five additional colours
and one to bridge the gap between the two original shades
Tilbury explained she has “obsessively studied the overtones and undertones of different skin tones”
She described the new colourways as “perfectly balanced shades for the easiest
most natural-looking contour of your life,” adding they’re “never muddy or ashy” and “flatter in every light” for a “natural
This was certainly music to my ears – what better time to test-drive the cult contour than now

I tried Charlotte Tilbury’s contour wand both over my foundation and directly onto the skin
I compared the original medium-deep shade with the new tan option
using the applicator to apply the formulas directly to my face
ranging fairer and deeper depending on the season but staying within that medium ballpark

she’s researched the formulas and considered whether the product is a worthy addition to your make-up bag
The liquid contour range now caters for darker and fairer skin tones
Trying the original medium-deep shade for the first time
I swiped the contour wand along my jawline
I found the applicator easy to manoeuvre – I’m familiar with the brand’s light and blush wands
I was careful to distribute the product lightly
switching the twisting nozzle to the ‘off’ position before applying
a gentle squeeze is all you need to get the product into the puff without flooding it with more than you can use
risking applying too much and filling the cap with overspill
These tubes have historically been a nightmare to store in make-up bags
with lids coming off and nozzles switching from ‘off’ to ‘on’
but the latest versions feel much more secure
I left the product to sit while I continued to apply it in all the areas I wanted to sculpt
this product actually dried down quite quickly and took a little work to blend
having been sitting for a couple of minutes
and found the formula melted into place with ease
creating a beautiful natural sculpt with a soft radiance
The benefit of its ability to then dry down and set means
that while it has that lightweight skin-like finish

It’s different from my favourite contour sticks
so you can create that sculpt and shadow effect
not dissimilar to the magic of the brand’s flawless filter but with less dazzle
deeper tan shade and found it didn’t feel as sheer as the OG option
this did give the shade tan a more impressive sculpt effect
I actually preferred both shades when worn without foundation
with the direct-to-skin application really perfecting the already excellent sculpt effect – it looked so real

After the much-needed shade extension, I would 100 per cent recommend the Charlotte Tilbury contour wands – I love to see a brand offering a more inclusive shade range
The 12ml size is a little small for my liking and the applicator has its cons but
this is a top-tier product and one that has found a home in my make-up bag for the foreseeable

the Port of Tilbury EV Charging Hub will feature 12 ultra-fast chargers each capable of delivering up to 360 kW of power
optimised for heavy goods vehicles and commercial fleets
and 4 chargers via the Voltempo HyperCharging Megawatt Charging System
It will also aims to provide fair and efficient sharing of grid capacity between Port of Tilbury tenants
using intelligent energy management systems
and accessibility to EV charging for fleets operating in and passing through the Port of Tilbury area
