Residents of Shepherd’s Bush are presenting a petition to the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham calling on the Council to take urgent action to clean up and restore Shepherd’s Bush — particularly Uxbridge Road So far 1,275 people have signed the petition ‘take urgent action to clean up and restore Shepherd’s Bush — particularly Uxbridge Road (100–500) — by supporting shopfront and streetscape improvements and tackling drug addicts Posting on the social media platform Nextdoor Noor A referred to the facelift Leyton High Rd received prior to the Olympics in east London where ‘before’ and ‘after’ pictures show attractively painted shop fronts ‘This is what Shepherd’s Bush could look like if you sign the petition.’ wrote Noor Noor A posting about the petition on social media; images of Leyton The facelift improved the image of the area and has been popular with the public “They look more inviting and I think I’d be more likely to go into a nice looking shops,” wrote one Leyton resident The residents of Shepherd’s Bush want: ‘targeted action to improve the visual condition and vibrancy of Uxbridge Road (particularly between numbers 100 and 500) which has visibly deteriorated due to neglected shopfronts and inconsistent Council oversight.’ ‘Crime and anti-social behaviour thrive in neglected environments,’ they say ‘While the Council cannot control policing directly it does have clear powers – and a responsibility – to address the environmental decline that fosters criminal activity and makes residents feel unsafe.’ Specifically they want the Council to develop a three six and 12 month plan for physical and visual improvements ‘Numerous shopfronts are in a serious state of disrepair temporary signage scrawled in marker pens or printed on A4 paper and cloth banners serving as permanent signs This isn’t just unprofessional – it makes the area look deprived and neglected ‘Flats above shops are visibly rundown Fruit shops spilling out onto the road with trolleys parked on pavements making it dangerous for pedestrians and cyclists as well as unsightly ‘Residents live in this daily and visitors see it first If the Council truly cares about regeneration The petition organisers say some shops sit empty for months or years ‘contributing nothing to the community the area is being saturated with low-quality short-term-use businesses like chicken shops which offer minimal diversity or uplift to the local economy.’ ‘We are not asking for perfection – we’re asking for care Citing the Leyton example and also a local council initiative in Deptford they suggest ‘low-cost grants’ or temporary business rate relief schemes for businesses in exchange for visual improvements They also want the Council to exercise greater discretion over business licensing and change-of-use approvals ‘why are so many new chicken shops being approved when what we desperately need is variety The petition also demands the Council tackles the issues of drug use and begging saying the area has become a hotspot for anti-social behaviour ‘The constant presence of drug users and beggars – loitering and sleeping rough in doorways and public spaces has left the area feeling unsafe ‘Residents regularly report asked for money or intimidated on the street We have found people sleeping outside our door on more than 1 occasion has turned Shepherd’s Bush into a hotspot for anti-social behaviour that gives the impression of a forgotten and lawless place.’ with everything from suggestions for partnering with outreach and addiction support services increasing the visibility of Council enforcement officers exclusion zones or dispersal orders for repeat offenders The ePetition runs until Sunday 22 June and can be found here: Uxbridge Road petition  Read more the development the green light on Wednesday (April 9) – despite none of the homes being ‘affordable’ The development will be in Uxbridge Town Centre It has been more than seven years in the making but councillors only discussed it for around 40 minutes before approving it This three-storey building will be demolished to make way for the new 10-storey building with traditional hotel facilities such as a bar and restaurant It will be accessible from the corner of Belmont Road and High Street however it is currently unclear which company will operate the hotel All of the 320 homes provided will be ‘co-living’ units residents will have their own private studio rooms – with shared communal spaces Each ‘unit’ is designed for one adult resident only – no two-bedroom or family units are provided As a ‘residential co-living unit’ The homes are targeted at people looking for ‘single-person households’ who cannot or choose not to live in self-contained homes or HMOs 10 per cent of the units will be wheelchair accessible The shared facilities include a rooftop garden None of the homes provided will be ‘affordable’ must pay £3.6 million to make up for the lack of affordable housing as part of the Section 106 agreement The commercial floor plans suggest a mix of shops there will be a net loss of 2467 sqm of retail floor space The existing office space will also be lost entirely At the heart of the site will be a 2070 sqm public open space The square aims to improve pedestrian movement through the town centre pending Stage II Greater London Assembly approval – due to the size of the development Harrow Online is a company registered in England and Wales The Sunday TimesSurrey are set to confirm that they are developing an additional ground to their main home while Middlesex are exploring developing a base away from Lord’s at Uxbridge as the counties who play at venues that host Hundred franchises scramble for new facilities Both clubs have long had ambitions to establish their own grounds away from the Oval and Lord’s — Middlesex especially as they are merely tenants of MCC at Lord’s and restricted in how they operate there the professionalisation of the women’s game and the need for these two venues — alongside six others around the country — to act as home to the Hundred throughout August has created unprecedented demand for high-quality playing Hillingdon Planning has granted approval for a significant mixed-use development on Uxbridge High Street This project involves the demolition of existing structures at 148 – 154 High Street to pave the way for a new development that includes a hotel which has been given approval subject to a s106 legal agreement and a Stage 2 referral to the Mayor of London aims to revitalise the area with modern infrastructure and enhanced public spaces The development will feature approximately 160 hotel rooms and 320 co-living units providing affordable living options in the town center The ground floor will reintroduce around 1,115 sqm of retail space enhancing the commercial vibrancy of Uxbridge High Street and Belmont Road A notable aspect of the project is the transformation of Cocks Yard into a high-quality public area with improved pedestrian routes fostering better connectivity to Belmont Road Additional amenities include co-working spaces The hotel will also feature a café and bar on the eighth floor offering guests a unique dining experience The approval is contingent upon amendments to Conditions 5 and 7 and the inclusion of two previously omitted drawings in Condition 2 This development promises to enhance the urban landscape of Uxbridge providing modern living and commercial opportunities while improving public spaces © London West (powered by ukpropertyforums.com) Sign Published on 18th December 2024 by ianVisits in Transport News which have been suspended between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge for several weeks will not be restored until mid-January 2025 Transport for London (TfL) also says that it will have to operate a reduced Piccadilly line service between Acton Town and Rayners Lane with trains running approximately every 15 minutes throughout the day until mid-January The problems stem from unusually heavy leaf fall this year which caused extensive damage to train wheels and means they have fewer trains to run along the tube line TfL said that the leaf fall was unusual this year with leaves staying on trees for longer than usual before falling in large quantities during the recent storms The sudden drop of so many leaves at once overwhelmed their usual autumn processes for clearing the tracks before it damaged the trains In brief, the leaf fall causes the tracks to be coated in a thin very slippery goo and if trains slide along the tracks when applying brakes it also means the wheels get a flat surface worn in them where they slipped over the tracks they need to regrind the wheels back into circles then they have to take trains out of service As they recover the service, there will also be a new Piccadilly line timetable from 13th January and short-term weekend closures to prepare for the new trains that are due to start in service in late 2025 Piccadilly line services between Uxbridge and Acton Town stations will be reduced during weekday peak times That is because some of the 50+ year old trains are having to be taken out of service as they can’t be used anymore That problem will likely persist until the new Piccadilly line trains come into service later in the year Metropolitan line services between Uxbridge and Rayners Lane are unaffected TfL says that for a more efficient journey during peak times passengers travelling on the Piccadilly line between Uxbridge and Eastcote should board the first train to Rayners Lane and change there for the Piccadilly line if necessary Parts of the Piccadilly line will also be closed on weekends to prepare for the new trains This website has been running now for over a decade, and while advertising revenue contributes to funding the website, it doesn't cover the costs. That is why I have set up a facility with DonorBox where you can contribute to the costs of the website and time invested in writing and research for the news articles It's very similar to the way The Guardian and many smaller websites are now seeking to generate an income in the face of rising costs and declining advertising Whether it's a one-off donation or a regular giver every additional support goes a long way to covering the running costs of this website and keeping you regularly topped up doses of Londony news and facts If you like what you read on here, then please support the website here I am no expert but my basic understand is that wheels usually end up with flats where they have “spun” so they have to be removed from the bogies and turned on a lathe Am less certain ok this point but I have also heard that the amount of metal removed on the lathe from each wheel needs to be similar so wheels on a train end up with similar dimensions so depending on the size of the flat wheels might need to be swapped between bogies Also the flat wheels will cause damage to the tracks The damaged tracks causes damages to wheels Why weren’t Metropolitan stock affected in the same way S Stock has a modern wheelslip/slide protection system compared to the rudimentary 1973 Stock equipment The global railway industry has been trying to fix this problem for over a century and you’ve solved it in minutes with a mop and bucket These aren’t lovely dry leaves that can just be swept away or hoovered up Once crushed they form a sticky coating on the rails which is difficult to remove Why can’t the Metropolitan line just run extra trains between Uxbridge and Rayners Lane temporarily to cover the shortfall in trains from the Piccadilly There are plenty of Met trains through Rayners Lane but that doesnt help those of us who might need to get from Rayners to Alperton in the morning Still no tube service in Hackney and it almost 2025 now There are three Overground stations in Hackney We having a day off from commenting on the Hackney Gazette then Johnny Johnny get back to the Hackney Gazette will ya I think its time to have a very serious discussion about placing trees so close to railway infrastructure Shutting stations for weeks at a time for leaves is beyond unacceptable and the latest news published on ianVisits You can unsubscribe at any time from my weekly across the country © Thames Tap (powered by ukpropertyforums.com) ARC Uxbridge has set a new benchmark in the local commercial property market ft of leases in 2024 and pushing campus occupancy to 93 per cent This milestone surpasses the five-year average of 83,000 sq This achievement follows a series of high-profile leases throughout 2024 which have cemented ARC Uxbridge’s reputation as a leading hub for innovation and growth In October the campus expanded its pharmaceutical cluster when Norgine a leading European specialist pharmaceutical company relocated its UK office Daiichi Sankyo and Parexel at the ARC campus Two new food and beverage organisations also moved to ARC Uxbridge in 2024 as Pizza Express and Suntory took 5,000 sq Global electric vehicle giant BYD was the latest occupier to join the campus’ growing line up of multinational tech-led businesses taking 27,000 sq ft as the company expands its footprint delivering sustainable transport solutions in the UK leasing director at ARC said: “Surpassing the five-year average is a testament to ARC Uxbridge’s unique high-quality offering and our commitment to supporting the growth of ambitious companies We’re excited to continue fostering an ecosystem where businesses can thrive,” The performance underscores ARC Uxbridge’s appeal to businesses seeking high quality office space and a vibrant collaborative environment The influx of members not only highlights the site’s strategic location with Heathrow under 15 minutes away and premium amenities but also reflects the growing demand for dynamic workspaces in Uxbridge As the campus continues to attract industry leaders and innovators it reinforces its position as a key driver of economic growth and a catalyst for future success in the region ARC Uxbridge is a connected innovation campus sitting within 70 acres of London’s green belt a dynamic co-working hub for campus’ members through to the specially curated member’s event programme and the surrounding green parkland Uxbridge town centre is set for a major revamp as a 15-year vision to improve the fortunes of the ‘tired’ area begins to form Hillingdon Council’s Cabinet Member for Planning Housing and Growth has told the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) the authority has a ‘blank canvas’ as it seeks people’s input on reviving the town centre Steve Tuckwell said the aim of the ‘Uxbridge Vision’ is to integrate development transport and investment to tackle thw growing number of empty shops and office blocks Cllr Tuckwell told the LDRS: “We need to find ways that we can regenerate the town centre whilst keeping our heritage in mind and people that work in those offices involved in this consultation will provide the blueprint for this going forward.” The vision has four key themes: public realm improvement; new activities; better links; and more town centre living Town centre living is key to the ‘Uxbridge Vision’ with many currently vacant office or retail spaces being touted for conversion to homes The consultation documents set out plans to diversify housing in the area taking the focus off flats and instead onto small townhouses Cllr Tuckwell said: “We have a new government which is looking to shake up the planning system so then we can actually look to achieve the right balance for Uxbridge which is about the right amount of residential dwellings the right amount of commerce and the right amount of retail.” As part of the public realm improvement the council intends to create a series of new public spaces to encourage new communities to visit the town and support local business Central to this theme is the ‘revitalising’ of the former Regal Cinema however at this stage there are no concrete plans and it’s understood to still be owned by a third party Last December an injunction was obtained by the council to stop building work taking place after it was discovered alterations were made without listed building consent Cllr Tuckwell told the LDRS: “It’s a central part of our High Street Hillingdon has done everything it can to protect it and we are now looking to see what that turns into as part of the vision for Uxbridge.” He declined to say how the redevelopment of the cinema would be achieved when it’s understood to still be owned by Frough Limited The bus interchange will also be redesigned in efforts to make it more ‘efficient and attractive’ there are plans to reroute existing bus routes and potentially create additional routes to better connect the region with the Home Counties The council is seeking feedback from residents workers and visitors about ways to improve the area More information is available on the council website A woman has been sentenced to prison after stealing a large sum of money from an elderly woman in Uxbridge Town Centre was one of two women who followed the victim after she withdrew £6,000 from a bank The pair followed her around multiple stores for nearly 30 minutes before taking the money from her bag without her realising The other woman involved has been arrested and charged “This was a targeted theft by a pair who were in town purely to steal They followed the victim around multiple stores for nearly 30 minutes prior to actually taking the money.” Dinkova was sentenced to 9 weeks imprisonment and ordered to pay £154 in costs Police have now issued a warning to the public: “We want to remind the public that should you need to withdraw a large amount of money please do go straight home after doing so and do not continue shopping.” Published on 14th January 2025 by ianVisits in Transport News Plans to restore Piccadilly line services between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge have been pushed back to late January Transport for London (TfL) closed the Piccadilly line between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge and has been running a reduced service between Acton Town and Rayners Lane to limit further wheel damage caused by unusually intense leaf fall last autumn but TfL now says that while it continues to make “good progress in repairing the damaged train wheels our fleet shortages have been impacted by a number of damaged train motors caused by recent poor weather.” They’re now aiming for the full service to be restored by late January TfL previously said that the leaf fall this winter was unusual with leaves staying on trees for longer than usual before falling in large quantities during the storms late last year Full service is now expected to be restored later this month A new Piccadilly line timetable came into effect on 13th January to allow for short-term weekend closures to prepare for the new trains that are due to start in service in late 2025 The article neglected to mention (unless I missed it) that for many weeks in November and December TFL announced that improved service would commence as work ended by 12 January It is not only those travelling beyond Rayners Lane who have been severely affected (though they have it the worst) but everyone using the Piccadilly line The waits for trains at rush hour can be 8 minutes if not more or more It’s been months of the most awful service At least the Rayners Lane shuttle 4 x per hour has been gotten rid of This has been going on for weeks and I have not seen the obvious question either asked or answered Given that the problem is a track problem that arises betwern Rayners Lane and Uxbridge where yhe Piccadilly and Metropolitan Line trains use the same track how come the problem has hit the Piccadilly.Line trains so badly but left the Metropolitann Line unscatched Something just doesn’t add up here as yhe Metropolitan trains are bigger and more heavily loaded the Met line trains have wheel slip prevention Piccadilly line trains don’t have this and this will continue to be a potential issue until the whole fleet is 24 stock Be prepared for more of the same this year as more 73 stock becomes life expired and not enough 24 stock to replace them I’m not sure the problem is necessarily down to the conditions on the stretch between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge – it could be anywhere on the Piccadilly line this is due to the lack of wheel slip prevention and so they could be damaged anywhere The removal of RL to Uxbridge is to reduce the demand for trains across the whole Piccadilly line I was trying to understand how a lack of friction between the wheel and rail could wear a flat spot but I can see that would allow wheels to lock on the “goo” and then hit bare rail sections where the wear would be rapid So it could be said the equipment does not meet existing conditions – although to be fair they were the right type of leaves Hospitality & Catering News The 22-lane centre will open its doors for the first time
