The Birmingham City loanee scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road which put the Saddlers on the brink of automatic promotion.
They remained third until the final seconds when Bradford City pipped them to the post with a 96th-minute winner against Fleetwood Town at Valley Parade.
The victory at Crewe ended a 13-match winless run and Hall is eager to use the "disappointment" of missing out on the final day as fuel heading into their two-legged semi-final against Chesterfield.
He said: "Everyone is feeling the same. Disappointment but I think we gave it our all today, it just wasn't our day.
"Even though I scored, I kind of knew that it wasn't in our hands still.
"We've just got to use that as fuel now to use that momentum and help us get through the play-offs.
"Because we got that win, we can use that [as a positive]. We've been playing a lot better over the past few games but haven't got the results.
"Having that win definitely means a lot because it's a been a long time. We've got that belief now that we can get the results again.
Walsall travel to the Technique Stadium for the first leg on Saturday, before welcoming Chesterfield to Bescot for the final leg on Friday, May 16.
Mat Sadler has been in charge of Walsall since April 2023
Walsall boss Mat Sadler has called his squad "fighters
not victims" ahead of their crucial final-day clash at Crewe Alexandra
Last Saturday's home defeat at home to Accrington Stanley meant Walsall missed the opportunity to climb back into the League Two automatic promotion places following Bradford City's loss to league leaders Doncaster Rovers
Despite not winning in their last 13 league matches
the Saddlers will still go up if they win at mid-table Crewe and Bradford fail to beat Fleetwood Town
"We were all a little bit deflated after the weekend but we're fighters
we're not victims," Sadler told BBC Radio West Midlands
we went through [the defeat] but then we moved on which is what we do all the time
"Very quickly Tuesday comes and very quickly the sun shines and we have to get going again."
A dismal run over the past three months has seen Walsall give up a 12-point lead at the top of League Two but Sadler says he remains positive with the help of a close support network
very lucky to have the family that I have but I'm also very fortunate to have the coaches around me and the players lift you with the way they are," he added
I've got everything that we need."
Sadler also confirmed that he had no fresh injury concerns ahead of the trip to the Railwaymen

Families of a Walsall community have celebrated VE Day with a host of fun games
Oakland Road, Bloxwich, was adorned with bunting, tables and chairs, bouncy castles and plenty of food and drinks as they celebrated the 80th anniversary of VE Day
The celebration comes thousands of streets across the UK come together to celebrate the end of the Second World War in Europe, with families baking cakes, hosting games and enjoying music together as a community.
In Walsall, one of the many communities to host an event was Oakland Road, where residents had a 'potluck', where everyone bought an item of food, childhood games like the egg-and-spoon race and plenty of music.
George Hall's 59th-minute strike put the Saddlers on the brink of a top-three finish
but rivals Bradford broke their hearts with a stoppage-time winner over Fleetwood
It means Mat Sadler's side – who blew a 12-point lead at the top of the table and had been winless in 13 matches since February 22 – will have to go through the play-offs
Walsall defender Taylor Allen went close with a thumping low drive before Hall was thwarted by Crewe goalkeeper Filip Marschall as the first half ended goalless
Hall put the visitors ahead when David Okagbue helped on a long throw and the Birmingham loanee turned to hook a volley past Marschall
Saddlers goalkeeper Tommy Simkin preserved the lead by keeping out Chris Long's powerful effort
while Harry Williams almost made the game safe with a low drive that Marschall brilliantly blocked
There was a let off at the other end as Crewe substitute Fin Roberts wasted a glorious chance when applying a tame finish to a cross from Charlie Finney
But just as Walsall felt they had rescued their promotion bid
late drama at Bradford consigned them to the play-offs

A shop thief described as a "prolific offender" has been put behind bars after pleading guilty to multiple shop thefts in Willenhall
Matthew Smith was sentenced to 10 weeks in prison at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court on Tuesday after he pleaded guilty to four shop thefts at a convenience store on Lichfield Road between March 10 and April 27
was arrested on Darwall Street in Walsall on Monday by response and neighbourhood officers from West Midlands Police
A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "A prolific shop thief has been handed a 10 week jail sentence for targeting a convenience store in Willenhall
appeared at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court on Tuesday (29 April)
where he pleaded guilty to four shop thefts at a convenience store
"The shop thefts took place between 10 March and 27 April this year
"Response and neighbourhood officers arrested Smith on Darwall Street
on Monday (28 April) where he was charged with the offences shortly after and remanded to appear before the courts."
Sergeant Paul Smith, Willenhall neighbourhood policing manager, said: “Smith is a prolific offender who was targeting local shops and stores
"He has a long history of theft related offences
clearly has no regard for court orders and continues to offend
"Such offending has a significant impact on our businesses and targeting shop thieves is a priority at Walsall LPA
“This sentence sends out a clear message to shop thieves that if you commit shop theft crimes
we will arrest you and place you before the courts and you will spend time behind bars
"Combatting shop thefts is a priority at Walsall LPA and we launched Op Marigold in a bid to tackle shop thefts across the Walsall borough."

Mat Sadler insists Walsall "will be ready" for the League Two play-offs despite suffering final day heartbreak in the automatic promotion race
Walsall were just moments away from securing a return to League One after beating local rivals Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road on Saturday
But Bradford City pipped them to the post in dramatic style courtesy of Antoni Sarcevic's 96th-minute winner in their 1-0 victory over Fleetwood Town at Valley Parade
That result has consigned the Saddlers to the lottery of the play-offs where they'll face Chesterfield in the first leg of their semi-final at the Technique Stadium on Sunday

Walsall headed into the final day more in hope than expectation but the way in which they missed out on automatic promotion was just cruel
They only have themselves to blame for being in this position in the first place
Two wins from 20 games prior to kick-off is simply inexcusable and is the reason they've been consigned to the play-offs rather than celebrating promotion
The 90 minutes that went before a dramatic 90 seconds at the end somewhat dwarfed into insignificance
Walsall played well overall and were good value for the three points
Birmingham City loanee George Hall was a livewire and capped a standout display with the winning goal in the 59th-minute
Harry Williams had launched another of his long throw deliveries into the penalty area which David Okagbue knocked down into the six-yard box
cleverly hooked an inventive finish beyond Aston Villa loanee Filip Marschall in the Crewe goal
who packed out virtually two stands inside Gresty Road
erupted in an explosion of euphoria as the Saddlers soared into the final automatic promotion spot
Williams was a rock at the back and Walsall had been threatening an opener from the first minute
with Hall pulling the strings in the final third
Taylor Allen drove a fierce low shot narrowly wide of the target and Hall forced an impressive finger tip save from Marschall before half-time

Nathan Asiimwe put Simkin in a spot of bother moments later with a poor headed back pass
The Walsall goalkeeper emerged and Owen Lunt went down searching for a penalty but the referee rightly waved away his claims

Mat Sadler says he is "unable" to put his emotions into words after Walsall missed out on promotion in heartbreaking fashion
George Hall scored the only goal in a 1-0 win for the Saddlers over local rivals Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road
Walsall were on the cusp of automatic promotion with the final whistle poised when news broke of events at Valley Parade
It was the news Walsall fans had been dreading
as Bradford City pipped them to the post in the most dramatic of styles with a late winner against Fleetwood Town

There were hundreds of children in Wolverhampton and Walsall living in short-term housing last year
Homelessness charity Shelter called on the Government to unlock "urgent investment" in the upcoming spending review to tackle the national housing crisis
It comes as separate analysis from the charity found 206,000 children in England could be living in temporary housing by 2029 – a 26% increase on current figures
Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government figures show 606 homeless children in Wolverhampton were living in temporary accommodation as of December
The data also showed 207 homeless children in Walsall were living in temporary accommodation as of December
which was slightly down from 216 the previous year
81,060 households with 165,510 dependent children were living in temporary accommodation at the end of last year – both the highest figures since records began in 2019
The number of families living in temporary homes was only up 0.7% from September
but showed a 13.7% increase from December 2023
Living in temporary accommodation means being provided short-term housing by a local authority
director of campaigns and policy at Shelter
said the housing crisis "has reached critical levels"
She added homelessness will continue to soar and local authorities will risk bankruptcy if no significant investment is unlocked
She said: "In the absence of enough social homes
people are being funnelled into and trapped in temporary accommodation for years on end while billions are spent on sticking plaster solutions
"Families are stuffed into unsuitable spaces
living on top of each other and out of suitcases
never knowing if and when they’ll be forced to uproot their lives."
She urged the Government to commit to the "ambitious investment" of building 90,000 social homes a year for a decade in next month's spending review
deputy chief executive of campaign group Generation Rent
said: "Behind every statistic are thousands of stories of people facing some of the most stressful
traumatic and insecure times of their lives
"More and more children are spending their formative years trapped living in temporary accommodation
often in overcrowded and unsafe conditions and at huge cost to local authorities
"This is a national scandal that demands government action."
He welcomed the national house building plan
but called on the Government to address soaring rent prices and unlock Local Housing Allowance for those on lower incomes
An MHCLG spokesperson said: "Through our Plan for Change we’re taking urgent action to fix the broken system we inherited
investing nearly £1 billion in homelessness services this year to help families trapped in temporary accommodation
we are developing a long-term strategy to tackle homelessness
driving up housing standards and delivering the biggest boost in social and affordable homes in a generation."

George Bennett gives his Walsall player ratings from their 1-0 win against Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road
Clean sheet - Struggled with a couple of teasing deliveries under his crossbar during the first half but produced a strong near post save to repel Chris Long late on to preserve his clean sheet
Strong - Produced a strong defensive performance and set-up the winning goal with a neat knockdown for George Hall to hook his finish into the net
Put in a crunching challenge early on and just continued to go from strength to strength with a brilliant defensive display
Solid - Dealt with his defensive duties expertly and came closest for Walsall in the first effort when he drove a low shot wide
Flytipping cost Walsall taxpayers £336,000 in 2023/24
with more than half of the bill coming from just five wards
Willenhall South and Birchills Leamore accounted for 53 per cent of the entire expenditure for the borough
The three least offending wards, Aldridge North, Pelsall and Streetly each account for just 1 percent
Leader of the labour group at Walsall Council, councillor Matt Ward, has called on the authority to ‘name and shame’ the culprits and publish the names of those who are fined.
Councillor Ward also called for more CCTV cameras to be installed and for officers to be deployed in areas which are known hot spots.
Councillor Ward said: “The council needs to get more proactive in challenging their own communities and getting them to come forward with information.
“Secondly, the council needs to be more proactive in naming and shaming people and challenging people’s behaviour.
“If you talk to any of the volunteer litter pickers, they’ve given up on some of the streets which are in the top wards.”
A spokesperson for Walsall Council said tackling fly-tipping is a priority for the authority.
They said: “The council does not disclose details relating to the deployment of CCTV cameras.
“Fly-tipping is a priority for the council. As part of our response to tackle fly-tipping, a variety of tools are used, including the use of crime scene tape to highlight the impact of fly-tipping, as well as access to additional cameras.
“Fixed penalty notices (FPNs) are governed by a statutory framework, so cases referred to other courts will be redirected back and not succeed.
“Issuing of FPNs are not made public. Where an FPN is taken to the magistrate’s court, details of the case are made public in the same way as other court cases.”

Chesterfield striker Will Grigg was the hero for this side this afternoon
scoring the winner for the Spirerites at Accrington to clinch the final League Two play-off place
"It was a hard watch from the bench in the final 10 minutes but we are really pleased with the result
"Scoring from seven yards out is a worldie for me
"You try not to focus on anywhere else but you know what is going on
Our nervousness came out a bit towards the end

Promotion ends Bradford's six-year spell in League Two and marks their first automatic promotion since 1999
Boss Graham Alexander won the division's manager of the year award at the EFL awards on Sunday after overseeing a great turnaround in their season
The West Yorkshire side were 12th on Christmas Day after a 3-0 defeat at Notts County on 21 December but a club-record run of 10 straight home victories set them on their way to an ultimately successful promotion charge
so often their Achilles heel in previous seasons
Their winning run spell was brought to a surprise end by struggling Tranmere on 15 March but
they bounced back in front of their fourth-tier record attendance of 23,381 with a thumping 4-1 win over Colchester the following week
With previous runaway table-toppers Walsall floundering
the 2-0 home victory over play-off chasing Crewe on Saturday
5 April saw the Bantams end a day on top of a league table for the first time since September 2008
those home successes were their only two victories in a run of 10 games going into the final day as the pressure of a first automatic promotion since 1999
Thankfully for their long-suffering fans they found form just when it mattered most to beat Fleetwood in the final seconds and elated fans streamed on to the pitch as the full-time whistle went
They will now hope to carry this momentum into next season and a first third-tier campaign since 2018-19

The final day of the season is almost upon us and Walsall are still in with a fighting chance of promotion to League One
but there is still a possibility that the Saddlers could be celebrating automatic promotion come Saturday teatime
Prior to their crucial showdown at Crewe Alexandra
we look back at Walsall's final day results from the past decade
It was not only the rain which poured incessantly in the capital on the final day of last season
Jackson Smith was also forced to pull the ball from out of his own net an astonishing five times in a devastating defeat
Omar Bugiel notched a hat-trick for AFC Wimbledon after Isaac Hutchinson has temporarily hauled the Saddlers level from the spot
Ronan Curtis added a fourth for the hosts before Mo Faal's comical own goal compounded a miserable afternoon
Wimbledon leapfrogged Walsall who finished five points adrift of the League Two play-off spots
Mat Sadler put paid to a nine-match winless run with a 2-1 success over Doncaster Rovers at Bescot in his final game as interim boss
The Saddlers' season had dwindled into disrepair after initially producing an early season play-off push under Michael Flynn
They won just twice in 23 games during the second half of the campaign
but signed off on a winning note thanks to goals from Conor Wilkinson and Hutchinson
George Bennett spoke to Nathan Judah following the 1-0 win at Crewe that was ultimately not enough for automatic promotion
Mat Sadler has confirmed that Manchester United loanee Ethan Wheatley will be available for Walsall after missing the 1-0 home defeat against Accrington Stanley
Wheatley was on duty with the Red Devils' under-21s last Friday and scored twice in a 4-2 victory over Everton
who arrived on loan from United in January
has made just four appearances during his temporary stint with the Saddlers
He has not started a game since Walsall drew 2-2 against Salford City at Bescot on February 1
with his only appearance since coming as substitute in their costly 3-2 defeat at home to Port Vale on April 5
Visiting runners in this year's Great Birmingham Run may have difficulty entering the city as trams and trains are set to arrive well past the start time
Runners and spectators are expected to pound the grounds of Birmingham in the return of this year's AJ Bell Great Birmingham Run 2025
While many runners are hoping to put their best feet forward for the endurance event
those travelling to the run by tram or train might hit a rocky start
With many trains and trams still operating on Sunday running times on the day
most services are set to arrive either just before
or well after the first wave of the run begins at 8.30am - meaning that many may end up sprinting for the start line instead of the finish line
the first train to arrive at Birmingham New Street on the day arrives at 8.21am
meaning that runners would have only minutes to race to Birmingham's Centenary Square
According to the travel West Midlands Railway travel app
meaning that those in the 'orange wave' (8.30am start time) would miss their run
Express & Star editor Mark Drew is among those who are taking part in the Great Birmingham Run on Sunday
He said: "I am down to start in the run's green wave
but the first train from Wolverhampton doesn't arrive at New Street until just before the race starts
"And the first Midland Metro tram doesn't even leave Wolverhampton until 8am
getting into Birmingham after the race has started
From the alternative Walsall Train Station, the first train to leave the station is at 9.31am, with the first train from Sandwell and Dudley also arriving at 8.21am
"It does seem crazy that I am now having to drive into Birmingham and find somewhere to park on a day when many city centre streets are closed for the run
there are bound to be many in the same boat as me
I had presumed that public transport was the best option
but it is clear that it isn't an option at all
"I have done the Great North Run in the past in Newcastle and used the Metro with no problem
But it seems impossible to put on some early services for this big event in Birmingham."
With the mass influx of visitors and the rolling roadblocks taking place in Birmingham on Sunday
many are choosing to utilise public transport instead
this leaves early wave runners only able to use the bus services instead
The Great Birmingham Run has been approached for comment

"Then all of a sudden I heard what sounded like a bomb blast
I knew it wasn't a normal sound so I ran outside and could see straight away these flames taking hold
These two guys then ran away from the house and up the street - one was in a blue t-shirt

"Nine fire crews, our Technical Rescue Unit, a hydraulic aerial platform and a drone were mobilised.
"Our first resources arrived within five minutes of being mobilised.
"They were met with a challenging scene – a severe fire involving an extensively damaged two-storey, mid-terraced house. The fire had also affected neighbouring properties.
"Several residents had got themselves to safety before we arrived, and others were evacuated by emergency services as a precaution.
"Firefighters led one man to safety from a property. He is understood to have been assessed and discharged at the scene by the ambulance service.
"A local church provided shelter, and volunteers from the Red Cross also offered support.
"Firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used hose reels and main jets to tackle the fire, which had been extinguished by around 11pm.

The last game of the season has somehow ended up being fairly meaningless for Crewe Alexandra
The Saddler’s on the other hand can come to Gresty Road a League Two side and leave a League One side
I take a look through our terrible form heading into this
as well as a detailed look at the away side
If you’d have told me in January that this fixture wouldn’t have anything riding on it for the Alex
I’d have assumed that we were already promoted and that the visitors were crowned champions some time ago
The Railwaymen’s promotion push has completely derailed though
and hasn’t ended up at the League One destination we were all dreaming of
Crewe have only mustered up one point from their last five games
and have only won once in their last eleven fixtures
It has been this tremendously poor run of form that has seen us fade away completely from the race for a playoff place and sealed our fate in League Two for next season
It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what’s gone wrong this campaign and that’ll be a conversation for another piece I have planned next week
but a simple explanation could be the lack of goalscorers among the squad
The reds have only scored seven goals in the last eleven
which would barely equate to 30 goals if that form was repeated over the course of a full season
Tomorrow’s game is still an important one for both Lee Bell
Ending the season on a high and putting out a statement of what fans should expect next season is really critical
There’s been some pressure aimed at Lee Bell from fans online across recent weeks
attractive brand of football and three points to match could go down nicely to counter the discontent that is arising
it isn’t an unpopular opinion that Bell’s team have been boring to watch at many points this season
Add onto this the dramatic fall off from an automatic promotion battle to mid table mediocrity and a performance that shows us a clear standard
with less turgid football will see fans leave Gresty Road happier than they have done in recent weeks
In terms of points and league placement absolutely not
In terms of regaining faith in the team and manager
much bigger occasion for our opponents than it is for us
Walsall have made our fall in form look minuscule
The Saddlers sat 12 points ahead of us in second
and were firmly in the automatic promotion positions by 15 points after 25 games played
It seemed destined that this final game of the season could be between two sides already promoted
yet it could now see neither side going up altogether
they’ll need Bradford to drop points to secure promotion from League Two
Nathan Lowe being recalled from loan in January by Stoke City was a big dent
Lowe had scored 15 league goals for the Saddlers in the league
This still sees him as the clubs top scorer
Jamile Matt has chipped in with twelve goals and goal scoring centre back Taylor Allen has bagged 10
Walsall are still the league’s top scorers
They’ve also conceded 54 at the other end though
so fans could expect to see goals tomorrow at both ends tomorrow
Mat Sadler’s side have only averaged 44.7% possession and operate well off the ball
combined with a thin squad could be a potential reason behind their fall off in the second half of the season
Crewe can expect a hard working side that regularly create chances to throw everything at them in a final bid to put the worrying form in the second half of the season behind them and achieve a promotion that at one point looked nailed on
both us and Walsall were early title candidates and a 1-1 draw was played out at The Poundland Bescot Stadium
Omar Bogle finished a chance that came from a lovely bit of play
but Nathan Lowe’s 85th minute leveller saw the spoils shared
It was a cagey affair that felt like a big
big game with both teams scoring a great goal
Jack Powell salvaged a point in the 94th minute at home to Walsall
but the Railwaymen succumbed to a 2-0 defeat on boxing day
We actually have a reasonable record in recent years against Walsall though
having only lost twice in the previous twenty one meetings between the two sides
we have also only lost against them four times since the turn of the century
so Walsall will need to overcome a bogey side in order to have any chance at a final day promotion
I expect this to be an all or nothing fixture for Walsall
as I wouldn’t fancy them in the playoffs
out-battle us and ultimately leave Gresty Road with three points
although a part of me also has a feeling that Bradford City may lose and still be promoted tomorrow
which based on recent form would be very unlikely
Will that three points be enough for Walsall to get promoted
Crewe Alex still have a say in the promotion race
shape or form does it actually involve us anymore
Tom Boon is a lifelong Crewe Alexandra fan
The Railwaymen Podcast as well as Gab Sutton's 'EFL Debate' voicing his opinions on the football club he loves
a Crewe Alex fanpage providing content around the club
he quickly grasped just how much the club meant to him and how much he enjoyed to create content
bold and insightful reads are what you can come to expect from Boon
On previous form imo I think walsall will struggle its easier to be in playoffs than automatic promotion
then the club can decide if they want it they’ve had the chance to not be in this position
sorry but with past results I can’t imagine anything giving us first division football .no passion there
and website in this browser for the next time I comment

Eight men pleaded guilty to charges including committing grievous bodily harm and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life after a mass brawl broke out in Walsall
The group were involved in a 'premeditated' violent attack which took place on July 31
was aggressively rammed by two other vehicles
were then set upon by a group of other men armed with a firearm
The men launched a savage attack on the vehicle
where a firearm was also discharged four times
resulting in significant and life-threatening injuries to the victims
the men in the vehicle managed to drive themselves to Walsall Manor Hospital
where they presented various severe injuries
life-threatening injuries requiring multiple surgeries
with one victim being placed in an induced coma due to the severity of their wounds
The suspects were arrested following an extensive investigation by West Midlands Police
as well as phone tracking to ascertain the movements of those involved
appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Monday
However, they instead changed their pleas and pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit GBH and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life
All will be sentenced over two days on June 12 and June 13
with all defendants who admitted GBH and possession of a firearm being remanded to appear in custody until sentencing in June
from the West Midlands Police major crime team
said: "We are delighted with the convictions
"This was a really shocking outbreak of violence in which weapons were used and firearms discharged and victims were left with life-threatening injuries
"Officers worked extensively on the case to identify the suspects and bring them into custody and finally before the courts
"We want to send out a clear message that we won’t tolerate people who use weapons on our streets and demonstrate violence such as we have seen in this case
If you behave in this manner we will arrest and charge you and bring you before the courts
"They face many years behind bars when they are brought back to court next month."
