Daryl Dike joined West Bromwich Albion from Major League Soccer side Orlando City in January 2022 following a previous loan spell in England with Barnsley It there was a moment that made West Bromwich Albion forget about their disappointment and frustration at missing out on the Championship play-offs it came after half an hour against Luton Town As Callum Styles' superb cross came in from the left a leaping Daryl Dike got there ahead of his marker to nod in from eight yards It put the Baggies back in front at 2-1, on their way to a 5-3 win, and triggered some of the loudest celebrates - and widest smiles - The Hawthorns has witnessed for a while You have to go back even further for the last time it happened in the league - March 2023 But the USA striker is now fit after the sort of injury nightmare that seemed like it would never end "It's a good feeling," Dike told BBC Radio WM reflecting on his comeback goal "You've been sitting here working hard every single day for two years to have a moment like that "When I headed it I was on the floor and just thinking 'please go in please go in' so to see it go in - it's what you dream about." West Brom striker Dike suffers new Achilles injury Since joining the Baggies from Barnsley in January 2022 Dike has had a scarcely believable run of serious injuries A hamstring injury on his full debut kept him out for six months, before a thigh problem on his return ruled him out for a further three. Then in April 2023, a ruptured Achilles tendon saw him miss another 10 months Five games into his comeback, it went again against Ipswich and Dike was carried off in tears. the club have taken no chances over rushing him back this time and have introduced him from the bench 10 times since his return to fitness in February Interim boss James Morrison revealed he thought about whether to hand Dike a start against the Hatters "for a good three days" before "going with his gut" and giving him the green light Dike credited his team-mates had played a vital role in keeping him going and getting him ready for his return "They've been able to see my mood when it [the injury] first happened and how hard I've worked to get back," he said "I'm so thankful to have team-mates that support me like they do and push me to get better every single day and keep my mindset right that I can still achieve all my dreams "Any footballer wants to play as much as possible but I've got good physios and medical team so the main thing is I was protected and in the best position to help the team." Daryl Dike was mobbed by jubilant team-mates after scoring on his first Championship start for 25 months with his first league start - and goal - for two years under his belt "You get knocked down but you get back up," he said "I'm only 24 and still have tonnes of goals I want to achieve and I'm grateful to have the opportunities to still do that "I knew that if I put in the work and give myself the best opportunity to get more feelings like that then they would come "I can feel good about myself over the summer knowing that I can still do it and I'm going to work really really hard into pre-season and carry that momentum into next season." but will Yamal build legacy to rival Messi Trailblazer Zhao set to take snooker to 'another level' in China Alexander-Arnold leaves as modern Liverpool great - but fans will feel hurt The final series of Man Like Mobeen has arrived John Simm stars in the provocative 90s drama Warm-hearted comedy with Ben Miller and Sally Phillips Follow two ambitious river restoration projects Who has made Troy's Premier League team of the week Zhao beats Williams in historic final - highlights VideoZhao beats Williams in historic final - highlights 'Scheffler and DeChambeau wins further raise US PGA excitement levels' Match-fixing scandal to Crucible champion - fall and rise of Zhao 'We need to take a look at ourselves' - Arsenal stalling at wrong time Palmer's brilliance could be key moment in Chelsea's Champions League quest Europa League 'papering over cracks' for Man Utd - Rooney VideoEuropa League 'papering over cracks' for Man Utd - Rooney Ask Me Anything the new BBC Sport service designed to serve you Bayern's 'James Bond' - how Kane clinched his first trophy Nine bolters with a shot of making the Lions squad How 'absolutely outstanding' Palmer 'destroyed' Liverpool VideoHow 'absolutely outstanding' Palmer 'destroyed' Liverpool Still number one & 'sparring' with Draper - return of Sinner Saints 'punch' favourites Leinster in game for the ages VideoVardy the best £1m ever spent - Shearer Poppy's tears Elton John & Happy Gilmore - McIlroy on Jimmy Fallon show Two opposing views on football's transgender ban Copyright © 2025 BBC. care home have spoken of their wartime memories as they get ready to mark the 80th anniversary of VE day Parkfield Grange, Hagley Road in Stourbridge, are marking the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day with a community day for residents with music refreshments and singing along with a minute's silence to mark the anniversary Many of the residents lived through the war as youngsters and although memories have faded a little bit they had no problem remembering the elation and party atmosphere of VE Day which marked Victory in Europe and the end She is a native of Wolverhampton and mixed with her recollection of the day is her memories of what a tough time everyone had during World War Two leading up to it She said: "I remember it feeling like the end of the war even though it wasn't and it went on for some time after that but there was such elation partying it felt like a weight had been lifted from our shoulders no fear of bombing or the soldiers who were fighting in the war being injured or killed as much as you got used to it you didn't want to "The rationing was tough as well I remember forgetting what a banana and orange was it sounds silly but they weren't freely available nothing was in the way it might have been before and it went on for years West Ham United U18s v West Bromwich Albion U18sU18 Premier League South West Ham United U18s will round off their 2024/25 season on home turf welcoming West Bromwich Albion to Little Heath Training Ground on Tuesday It brings the curtain down on a memorable campaign for the young Hammers who made history by becoming just the fifth team to lift the U18 Premier League Cup last month An excellent season in terms of development has also seen a handful of U18s earn regular opportunities with the U21s With as many as five scholars travelling with the development squad for their Premier League 2 quarter-final against Manchester United on Monday Tuesday’s U18s clash will once again offer valuable minutes for younger scholars and U16s hoping to make their mark post-match reaction and highlights will be available on the Club’s website and app following the final whistle It’s been a challenging season in the league for West Bromwich Albion who have picked up just 12 points from their 22 matches their lowest tally since joining the southern division of the U18 Premier League in 2020 earning only one win from eleven games on the road the Baggies did enjoy a strong FA Youth Cup run reaching the quarter-finals before falling to defending champions and eventual finalists Manchester City They also hold the upper hand in recent meetings with West Ham going unbeaten in the last three encounters including two wins over our U18s who finished runners up in Premier League South last season scored his third goal in five games to give West Ham the lead West Brom responded with goals either side of the interval to turn the game on its head but the young Hammers hit back through Mauritius international Gabriel Caliste who finished off a well-worked team move to secure a 2-2 draw and a point on the road West Ham United currently sit 12th in the U18 Premier League South table but a win on Tuesday and results going their way elsewhere could see them finish as high as ninth While our FA Youth Cup run ended in the third round at Grimsby Town, the young Hammers made history this season by becoming the first U18s age group to win the Premier League Cup for West Ham Site designed & built by Other Media, powered by Clubcast As the curtain fell on the SkyBet Championship season, for West Bromwich Albion supporters it had felt like their season had been over much prior to Saturday afternoon Even when there was still a fighting chance of the club earning a top six place up until their 3-1 defeat against Derby County for a lengthy period of time the overriding feeling amongst the fanbase was one of pessimism at the thought of this season having a positive conclusion So what caused Albion fans to lose hope so soon We look at some of the key turning points of the Baggies’ season they were sitting on the top of the table and were starting to build some momentum for the season ahead Little did the supporters at The Hawthorns know that after beating Plymouth 1-0 it would be the last time that season the side would be able to record consecutive victories Without being able to go on streaks of gathering several wins in a row it would be a real struggle to build confidence and rhythm in the side and it proved to be a real issue throughout the season The first half of the season adds plenty of questions of “what-if?” about West Brom’s season that incredible run of games between October and December where they miraculously had 10 draws in 11 games while Carlos Corberán was still at the club – the gap between the Baggies and a place in the top six ended up being just four points and with that run in mind Albion’s failure to convert draws into wins shows how they proved to be their own worst enemy in the end With West Brom sitting in 5th in the table at the time it wasn’t exactly the worst job to be going into either with fans hoping the next manager in the dugout would take the defensive foundations set by Corberán while finding ways to bring more goals to the side When the club’s initial move for Swiss coach Raphaël Wicky fell through they turned to former promotion-winning boss Tony Mowbray – bringing hopes that supporters would see a similar brand of football they saw during his first spell at the club aside from a 5-1 win against Portsmouth early on in his second tenure West Brom fans never were able to see the return of the style of football that previously lit up The Hawthorns There was nothing that the supporters in B71 wanted more than Mowbray to succeed once more as West Bromwich Albion manager but when his departure was announced following their 3-1 defeat against Derby County there were very little who believed that his departure was out-of-order There were less positions on the pitch that January signing Isaac Price hadn’t been tested in over the course of the 61 year-old’s time at the club and the team had lost the defensive structure that Carlos Corberán had instilled into the side whilst Mowbray’s side were still suffering from goalscoring issues There was still a surprise that Shilen Patel did not wait until the end of the season to part ways with Mowbray and while the side did just fall four points short in the end a run of five defeats in six since returning from the international break meant that the damage had been done One of the most damaging points in West Brom’s season was when Josh Maja left the field at the Swansea.com stadium with an injury that meant it would be the final time that Albion fans would see him in their colours this season With 12 goals to his name and being quite far and away the club’s top goalscorer despite missing the second half of the season the Nigerian’s absence was very much felt as the team’s season started to fade away it was not just his goals that West Brom were missing in his time ruled out Maja’s linkup play was one of the best in the division and meant that he could often provide a link between midfield and attack Karlan Grant looked like a rejuvenated figure during the early parts of this season and playing next to Maja helped at times as well as the partnership he formed with Tom Fellows who the young winger was able to supply with several crosses and cut-backs for multiple of his 14 assists When Adam Armstrong signed on Deadline Day there was an expectation across the Championship that this was West Brom’s ticket to the play-offs with the reputation that last year’s golden boot winner possessed it felt like goals would be a guarantee Armstrong looked like an isolated figure for the majority of his loan spell and ultimately failed to live up to expectations Supporters felt that Armstrong would have benefited from a strike partner rather than playing as a sole striker but this did not arise apart from the rare moments he shared the pitch with Spurs loanee Will Lankshear Armstrong will be returning to Southampton after scoring just three times over the course of his loan spell Continuing with the theme of Deadline Day impacting Albion’s season the club were dealt with a decision to make Alex Palmer had 18 months left on his contract and an offer had came in from Ipswich Town for last season’s Golden Glove winner The decision was made to cash-in now on Palmer rather than risk losing out on a potential fee for an academy graduate and as a result lost one of the best goalkeeper’s in the Championship he was subsequently dropped for Griffiths for the remainder of the season With Wildsmith receiving the blame for several goals conceded during his spell in the team fans will never know how many points were lost by the decision to not choose a goalkeeper who had already built up some form by playing consistently at that stage of the season who had established a relationship between himself and his defence meant that there would be some issues along the way for whoever was going to replace him and as a result the side felt the consequences of the decision to allow him to leave the football club There will be hope that this will be a sliding doors moment similar to where Palmer earned his place in the team after Steve Bruce stood by David Button following Sam Johnstone’s departure – this is the chance for Griffiths to stake his claim as Albion’s number one for the upcoming season and beyond Here is the final post-match debrief of the season. The final third has been Albion's chief limitation this season. Particularly since 12-goal Josh Maja broke down injured in the new year, there has been very little firepower to power the side over the line in games. Ironic then - or 'Albion that', as supporters say - that five goals were thrashed past the hopeless Hatters on the final day. Cynical Baggies fans, and they may well have a point, will point to the side freeing up and putting in a much better performance with nothing on the line on the final day, now all hopes of achieving anything had fallen by the wayside. Winger Tom Fellows and left-back Callum Styles both fired the first braces of their careers to make it just four and three goals respectably for the season. The day's big plus - in every way but certainly from a goal perspective - was Daryl Dike. Getty ImagesPublished3 May 2025West Bromwich Albion interim manager James Morrison was pleased he went with his gut after agonising over whether to start Daryl Dike against Luton Town In his first Championship start in 25 months American striker Dike scored his first league goal since March 2023 in West Brom's 5-3 final day victory Morrison did not take any unnecessary risks with Dike and he told BBC WM: "It took me a good three days to think about it but I'm glad I went with my gut and I'm happy for Daryl "We were 5-1 up [when Dike was substituted] and I just felt let's keep him safe and that feeling of scoring and playing well and [go] into next year "We'll always keep working with Daryl daily I still believe there is a lot more to come from Daryl and he knows it as well and we'll work on the training pitch "I want him to use his physicality more Want him to be horrible to play against so let's keep working." and there seems to be a genuine sense of goodwill towards the 33-year-old potentially making his own way in management Ryan Mason has been part of the furniture at Tottenham Hotspur for some time now with the 33-year-old often coming in for sacked managers in a holding-the-fort role However, the assistant coach has not had to act as an interim manager this season, as Ange Postecoglou remains in charge of Tottenham Of course, Postecoglou could still leave Spurs before the start of next season as new reports suggest that failure to win the Europa League would seal his fate Ryan Mason was once tipped as one who could take on the managerial position at Tottenham should the club pull the plug on Postecoglou as fresh reports from talkSport now reveal that the ex-Tottenham player is a leading contender for the vacant West Bromwich Albion job but he will have to wait until after Tottenham’s European campaign has come to an end before making a decision over his future are happy to see the young manager linked with a move away from the club with many believing it would be great for his career it has not got any better for him at Spurs but he has learnt and done his apprenticeship under so many managers he will be quality once he goes out on his own.” Another added: “About time Mason goes on his own.” One other fan stated: “Would be brilliant for him imo and hopefully we can send some academy players to get minutes there.” While some want him to try out a new challenge One fan said: “Give him the Tottenham job instead!!” Another stated: “Levy will not let him go Another fan took a firm stance: “Please god sick of watching him sitting waiting for people to get sacked so he can have 15 minutes of fame he does not deserve a full-time job because he took a bang to the head years ago.” Ryan Mason is a leading contender for the vacant West Brom job, but will wait until after Tottenham's European campaign has come to an end before making a decision over his future [talkSport] pic.twitter.com/mOILoLikug During his time at Spurs Ryan Mason has served as an assistant manager to several head coaches and he has been assistant to Christian Stellini The former midfielder has been a loyal servant to the Lilywhites and one who has taken up the mantle of caretaker too Indeed, the most famous of all his games was him coming up against Pep Guardiola in the Carabao Cup back in 2021, a game Spurs lost 1-0. More experience would be needed by the young manager before he can take a full-time managerial role at Tottenham, and coaching West Bromwich Albion in the Championship would be a good starting point. Cardiff were last relegated from the second tier of English football in 1985 Cardiff City will play in the third tier of English football for the first time in 22 years next season after their relegation from the Championship was confirmed with a goalless draw against West Bromwich Albion on a day of despair in the Welsh capital Although hopes of survival were already hanging by a thread following Luton Town's win over Coventry City earlier on Saturday Cardiff were backed by a passionately believing home crowd and played with the determination of a team that thought they could pull off an almighty escape act They were fortunate not to fall behind during a first half in which the Baggies missed several chances as Ethan Horvath was kept busy in the Bluebirds' goal and Isaac Price hit a post Cardiff had opportunities of their own either side of the interval and it was only a combination of West Brom goalkeeper Josh Griffiths and the woodwork which kept Alex Robertson and Yousef Salech at bay in a frenzied few seconds That flurry of activity raised hopes of Cardiff snatching the win that would have kept intact their paper-thin aspirations of staying up but the draw consigned them to the bottom of the table and the relegation that had felt inevitable for some time who were playing their first game under interim manager James Morrison following the departure of Tony Mowbray needed victory to keep alive their faint hopes of making the play-offs but this result means they will be in the Championship again next season Ramsey 'gutted' but backs Cardiff for instant return There was a sense that the damage had already been done to Cardiff's faltering bid to avoid relegation with a run of just one win from their previous 13 matches leading to their second managerial sacking of the season as Omer Riza was dismissed a week earlier Wales captain Aaron Ramsey was brought in as caretaker boss with three games left a desperate roll of the dice from the club's much-maligned owner Vincent Tan And while Ramsey is blameless for the Bluebirds' demise there was already an acceptance from most supporters that relegation was inevitable after they drew at home against Oxford United in his first game in charge on Easter Monday Luton's last-gasp win over Coventry in one of Saturday's earlier games was another nail in the coffin for Cardiff's rapidly fading hopes of staying up Cardiff were close to taking an early lead when Calum Chambers' header was cleared off the line by Price West Brom dominated from that point and missed several chances with Price and Callum Styles both drawing fine saves from Horvath before Price hit the post from Adam Armstrong's cutback Cardiff thought they had scored against the run of play when Chambers headed in from David Turnbull's free-kick but the former Arsenal defender was flagged offside Chances flowed at both ends in the second half and the hosts came agonisingly close to a precious lead when Robertson had one shot blocked another saved and Salech fired against the post before Chambers was denied by Griffiths West Brom almost killed their opponents off completely with chances for Karlan Grant and Armstrong but still Cardiff hung on and threatened through substitutes Ollie Tanner and Joe Ralls the home fans chanted "City till I die" and applauded their players but turned their ire on owner Tan once more That has been a common refrain in recent years but despite the supporters' fury which has manifest itself with demonstrations and protests as well as anger at games Cardiff remain financially dependent on their Malaysian backer Having narrowly escaped relegation in two of the previous three seasons Cardiff have become embroiled in one crisis too many The fans have had a difficult time this season and I really feel for them "But also I want to say I'm proud of the last couple of performances The level of effort the players have put in and the information they've taken on was evident "We could have won on other days but the reality is we haven't been good enough over the course of the season and we have to accept that." West Brom caretaker manager James Morrison: "I was pleased with the backline who defended well and put their bodies on the line "But I'm frustrated with that last bit "I asked them to take that anger and frustration of the week into the game and I could sense that." Goals, or a lack of, have plagued the club all season. Firstly under Carlos Corberan and then under his replacement Tony Mowbray, who was brought in to find a way in the final third. Mowbray's bid to take off the handbrake and tickle his players' tummies failed rather spectacularly and was a short-lived experiment. Interim James Morrison, in to see out the final two games of the season, then oversaw a final-day chaotic romp with five goals thrashed in and eight in total leaving any neutral satisfied. It is pleasing Morrison, a very decent man and Albion legend like former caretaker Chris Brunt, was able to sign off from the home Hawthorns dugout with a win. Albion managed two five-goal hauls at home in 2025 alone and yet their total of 57 goals in 46 league games this season is a measly one and well short of what is required for a proper promotion side. Three goals shipped to relegated Luton also rather typified this squad since Corberan's exit at 20 to midnight on Christmas Eve. A resilient and watertight backline was Corberan's strength and trademark. The Spaniard has taken that successfully to Valencia. Since his exit Albion have been disastrous from a defensive perspective. The previous weekend's stalemate at Cardiff was a rare effort. Goals have been flying in left, right and centre. Managerless Albion's season unravelled to an eventual finish of ninth. It has been a desperate finale of regret and what-ifs. Nineteen - yes, 19 - draws. Not quite a Football League record but not far off. And there has only been one in the last eight games. At one stage the Baggies were a shoo-in for that badge of dishonour. 852 CommentsWest Bromwich Albion have sacked head coach Tony Mowbray after just three months of his second spell in charge The 61-year-old was dismissed after Monday's 3-1 home defeat by relegation-threatened Derby County - a loss that all but ends the Baggies' hopes of making the Championship play-offs The former Blackburn Rovers and Middlesbrough boss was reappointed as Albion head coach in January almost 16 years after he left The Hawthorns for Celtic in June 2009 He replaced Carlos Corberan who left the club to take over at Spanish top-flight side Valencia with the Baggies then sitting seventh in the table But Mowbray has led the club to just five wins in his 18 games in charge and they are six points off the play-off spots in 10th place with two games to play While the club can mathematically still make the top six it would take a unlikely set of results for them to have a chance Mowbray's assistant Mark Venus has also left with former Albion midfielder James Morrison placed in interim charge to be assisted by Damia Abella and Boaz Myhill "The club would like to place on record its thanks to Tony and Mark for their efforts – but has made the decision to part company following a series of poor results," a short Albion statement said "Tony and Mark will forever be welcome at The Hawthorns and their contributions to the club winning the 2007-08 Championship title will never be forgotten." who led the Baggies to the Premier League 17 years ago had returned to management for the first time since a health scare in February 2024 That led to him stepping away from his role in charge of Birmingham City to undergo treatment for what was later revealed to be bowel cancer He was unable to recreate the success he had in his first spell as Albion boss when he steered West Brom to the Championship play-off final in his first season in charge although they were beaten by Derby County at Wembley having also reached the FA Cup semi-final where they lost to eventual winners Portsmouth Relegation followed after one season in the top flight after which Mowbray left in 2009 for Celtic Park Sunderland and Birmingham before returning to The Hawthorns Mowbray's departure leaves the Baggies searching for their seventh permanent manager in less than six years His predecessor Corberan's 26-month stint as boss was a rare example of the club keeping faith with a head coach who was in charge from June 2019 to December 2020 was the only other manager in that time to get at least a full season at the helm during which he led the club to promotion back to the Premier League Sam Allardyce took control but was unable to keep Albion in the top flight as they finished in 19th place and he left that summer Valerien Ismael took over but was gone by the following February to be replaced by Steve Bruce as the club ended their first season back in the Championship in 10th place Bruce lasted until October that year when Corberan came in and led the club to ninth place in his first season in charge A fifth-placed finish followed last season where the Baggies were beaten by Southampton in the play-off semi finals West Brom's 3-1 defeat to John Eustace's Derby was their fifth in their last six games under Tony Mowbray There's an air of sadness to Albion's decision to end Tony Mowbray's second spell in charge after less than 100 days Particularly due to the huge respect he built in his memorable first reign but the swift sacking barely hours after a 3-1 defeat to Derby is probably best for all parties A data led search for Carlos Corberan's successor after his abrupt departure on Christmas Eve led sporting director Andrew Nestor to the 61-year-old who'd received the all clear from a bowel cancer diagnosis just days earlier His return to football management in January was a feel-good story but unfortunately it won't have the fairytale ending of another promotion to the Premier League with the Baggies He inherited a squad that had been drilled by the meticulous Spaniard and took the handbrake off the players couldn't be trusted at the wheel and the play-off push went off the rails Mowbray's chopping and changing of line-ups suggested he was trying to figure out who he could trust to play his way but while he was doing that results failed to come and two dismal displays over the Easter weekend have cost him his job The players certainly shouldn't be absolved from blame for the underwhelming end to the season It looks like they needed Corberan's discipline rather than Mowbray's friendly arm around the shoulder Time is on Albion's side with the season coming to a close but there's pressure on owners Bilkul to get this next appointment right to re-establish the club as one that can fight for promotion next season View comments | 852Top storiesHis stats are better The Portuguese has had several opportunities to move to the Premier League over the last 15 years before being appointed at Molineux in December Watford and Arsenal and admitted he held talks with the Baggies over a decade ago "Do you know how many meetings I had here maybe 15 years ago," he told BBC Sport with the contract for two and-a-half years we can celebrate with a pint and then they changed the idea for another but I realised that is normal here very good meeting with Arsenal before they signed (Mikel) Arteta "Watford was the only time that I said no It was the time that they were relegated." was with Everton in 2022 when the Toffees were replacing Rafa Benitez while he also spoke to them in 2019 as a possible replacement for Marco Silva with the contract was agreed – everything – to start to work tomorrow It means now I'm very happy to be here "I'm very grateful to the club because they gave me the opportunity to be in the league that I believe gives me the opportunity to be at my best level "It challenges me and I need to be challenged Jack Rudoni's seventh goal of the season set Coventry on their way to three points Coventry City midfielders Jack Rudoni and Matt Grimes scored as the Sky Blues cemented their Championship play-off place while seriously hampering West Bromwich Albion's hopes Albion's defeat means they are still to win away from home since boss Tony Mowbray returned to the club in January who have won just five times in 17 matches under Mowbray now six points adrift of a play-off place with just three games left Having gone 2-0 down in the 48th minute from Grimes' gifted goal they then had to play out most of the second half with 10 men following Callum Styles' red card The crowd of 31,167 was a record for a league game at the stadium although it has been bettered by Chelsea for an FA Cup quarter-final in 2009 (which City boss Frank Lampard played in) former landlords Wasps and Bruce Springsteen Albion were behind inside just six minutes when 11-goal City top scorer Haji Wright turned supplier the United States international's deflected low cross bumbled its way into the path of Rudoni firing a low left-foot shot just inside the near post for his seventh goal of the season City went close to another on 37 minutes when Rudoni got away with a foul at the far post from Ben Sheaf's free-kick and Liam Kitching nodded goalwards only for alert Albion keeper John Griffiths to palm it over And Griffiths had to react when almost caught out by Milan van Ewijk's wickedly dipping left-wing cross but cleared his lines with the help of the bar bringing on John Swift and Grady Diangana for Isaac Price and the on-loan Will Lankshear Swift had not yet picked up the pace of the game miscontrolled as he tried to guide a pass back to his own keeper and did not realise Grimes was on him until it was far too late Grimes duly ran on to drill a hard low left-foot shot past Griffiths into the right corner for his second goal in as many games It then got even worse for Albion when Styles was perhaps a bit harshly sent off for second yellow card for his challenge on Sakamoto as the pair tried to outmuscle each other on the touchline and the Japanese winger went to ground Aside from an early chance when on-loan Tottenham striker Will Lankshear went close from Mikey Johnston's inswinging cross Albion offered little until almost too late Swift could have atoned for his error but miscued over the bar while former Sky Blues loan striker Adam Armstrong had a late effort disallowed for offside Coventry now head to Devon on Easter Monday to face relegation-haunted Plymouth Argyle then if Albion fail to win at home to Derby County it would confirm that the Baggies will remain in the Championship for a fifth successive season Coventry City boss Frank Lampard told BBC CWR: "We were aggressive and played some really good stuff when you're playing at home and you start with the right energy "In the second half we get our early goal They're a good footballing team so they can handle 10 players to a degree and stay on the ball a bit We work loads on the training pitch on those sort of finishes He gave me a little wink when he came over after because we've been working on it West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Mowbray told BBC Radio WM: It's frustrating that we aren't getting to the level we need to be at in such big games we just haven't accrued the points that we need to Coventry are a decent team and they're on a good run of form and yet I still felt that we would come here and dominate more "We tried to make the changes at half-time that would have given us more control and yet we lost a goal within three minutes and had a sending-off pretty quickly after We've lost late goals in games when we felt we should have been winning We've lost a little of our normal intensity." The memorial has now been reinstalled in a more central location of Wolverhampton Station, with the tablet now sitting on the wall on the concourse.  Robert Goode, head of property at West Midlands Railway, said: "We hope that by giving this memorial a new lease of life, it will help to keep the memories alive of all those listed. Thank you to Paul Edmunds in my team who identified the opportunity to restore the plaque and made it happen. “It’s possible that relations of these LNWR staff members are still living in Wolverhampton today. To any who want to reach out to us, we’d be happy to host you at the station to see the plaque in person." The refurbishment work was undertaken by the Railway Heritage Trust, who commissioned the specialist restoration company, Lewis Howes Signs and Engraving, to bring the inscription back to pristine condition. The company also created a bespoke hardwood frame as backing for the plaque. Councillor Linda Leach, mayor of Wolverhampton, said: "Those remembered on this tablet were local people, who served in World War One for their country and for us all.  "I’m pleased to unveil it following this restoration project, and hope to see it remain in the station for years to come, so all passers-through can see it and remember their sacrifice.” Notifications can be managed in browser preferences.
