The meeting will take place on Tuesday 3 December at Whitburn Partnership Centre
with two sessions from 2pm until 4pm and 6pm until 8pm.
Boundaries Scotland's review of Scottish Parliament boundaries has put forward a proposal which would see Fauldhouse and Whitburn moved to a shared constituency with North Lanarkshire for Holyrood elections
The proposals would also see West Lothian moved out of the current Lothian Region for selecting list MSPs
and placed into the Central Scotland region.
Anyone wishing to speak at the inquiry is invited to contact Boundaries Scotland on 0131 244 2001 or email boundaries.scot@scottishboundaries.gov.uk to book a slot
West Lothian Council's Executive recently unanimously agreed to object to the proposals
on the grounds that the proposals do not reflect historic
transport or geographical links between the communities concerned
would only affect the Scottish Parliament constituency boundaries
so current West Lothian Council local authority boundaries and UK Parliamentary constituency boundaries would be unaffected

Whitburn Band has announced the signing of cornetist Ross Gilchrist in a milestone move
The arrival of Ross at Whitburn marks an significant moment as he is the first brass player to sign for the senior band after being a beneficiary of the organisation’s youth development pathway
was designed to enable a player to start out playing their very first notes with the Wee Band or Youth Band
and then continue progressing their banding career through the Heartlands Band
Only two players have achieved this since the project’s inception
Ryan Bradley and Amy Gray both enjoyed spells with Whitburn Band after starting out at the Youth Band
and are now both enjoying successful careers performing as professional musicians
started off playing at school when he was nine and he joined Whitburn Youth Band on third cornet
He went on to lead the cornet section before he progressed to Whitburn Heartlands and West Lothian Schools Brass Band
Ross studies music at the University of Glasgow under the tutelage of Mark O’Keefe
and has been a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland for the past nine years
Ross said: “I’m very excited to be part of Whitburn Band
and to be back in the organisation that I joined nearly 10 years ago.”
musical director of Whitburn’s development bands
added: “We are delighted to welcome Ross back after keeping in close contact during his time at Bathgate Band
He has grown in skill and confidence during his time there
and is an absolute asset to our cornet section.”
Whitburn chairman Charlie Farren commented: “The importance of this achievement should not be overlooked and it is a massive credit to Ross on his return to us as a senior band member
We are delighted in welcoming him back and wish him every success with the band.”
acts as a gateway to the Leas coastline providing space for community organisations
Photography by Graeme Peacock and Oliver Sturdy
Whitburn Coastal Conservation Centre is the result of a collaboration between National Trust and the SeaScapes Partnership
The centre acts as a gateway to the Leas coastline and provides community organisations and groups with space for conservation work and nature activities
helping to raise awareness of coastal conservation issues in the region
The centre is located on an extremely complex site: green belt; in the curtilage of a Grade II*-listed lighthouse; on top of an infilled quarry with ground gases and directly over a huge drainage pipe
part of the quarry works; ordnance hazards (the site was once a firing range); plus
it had to be adjacent to the bird netting area on the hill
The clients were ambitious in their brief and the building had to meet this ambition and become a hub for the community
The centre is regionally significant for the work National Trust and their partners do there and internationally significant for the work the bird-ringers do by contributing data on the local and migratory bird population to the international database of birds so conservationists around the world can access it
The site was incredibly challenging and it was important to all involved that we used a ‘fabric first’ approach
We achieved a good thermal envelope and airtightness using CLT with external airtighness membranes and insulation
No structural steel was used and the cladding is made of 100 per cent recycled plastic from construction waste
The design complements the ‘heavy’ massing of the lighthouse
with a lightweight ‘floating’ structure emerging from the landscape with framed views of the lighthouse and large
The building almost wears the Trust’s mission for the centre as a jacket: an exposed timber panel structure internally with 100 per cent recycled plastic tiles from construction waste externally
illustrating how materials can be reused and not end up polluting our coasts and seas
Planning was complex but achieved due to the exceptional circumstances of the project
The building is constructed from cross-laminated timber panels as the structure of the wall and roof
CLT is both low in embodied carbon and quick to construct in this harsh environment
Externally the CLT is wrapped in insulation and clad in 100 per cent recycled tiles made from plastic waste from the building industry
The roof is sedum to enhance biodiversity
The National Trust used this project as a pilot project for their sustainability matrix
This was in order to test the matrix and this project against the criteria
The findings will be used to hone the matrix for use on future National Trust projects

young Carter Burchill will be running one mile a day

Carter is the unlucky player who has to sit next to Whitburn’s grumpiest player – me
“So a huge well done and please support Carter on his fundraising.”
Any sponsorship you can make will be greatly appreciated by Carter. Please message Donald Morrison via the Whitburn Heartlands Band Facebook page who will collect any donations or pass the band’s account details over so you can transfer directly
