This week marked the start of the Christmas countdown with Wilmslow switching the Xmas lights on and the Xmas market in town Run director Wayne focused his briefing on the newbies and today there were a lucky seven who ventured out on this initially dry but subsequently very wet autumnal morning He also mentioned the breaking of the parkrun World Record last week at Belfast by 19 year old Nick Griggs in order to inspire everyone It certainly seemed to help quite a few get PBs today including Peter Booth who very kindly has sent his outsiders view of our parkrun it’s my absolute favourite time of the year and on my way to the Manchester Christmas markets I stopped off in the beautiful Wilmslow for their event I arrived around 08:30 into the car park with plenty of spaces still available and thankfully after an almost 2 hour drive There is also a small coffee hut which I took advantage of Straight off the car park through the diamond gate was the start area a really well set up event with a gazebo to house all the important parkrun accessories I introduced myself to the run director who was very welcoming and chatty like a magpie spying some silver I saw the bibs 2 minutes later I’m off to the first timers briefing wearing the bright blue 27 pacer vest After the briefing the run director took stage with a very clear microphone speaker set up to introduce everyone to the parkrun and any other info such as the Christmas market and light switch on that would be happening that day my favourite thing I’ve ever experienced at a parkrun the run director encouraged us to turn around and introduce ourselves to someone we have never met before I turned to shake hands with the chap stood next to me and saw the smiles on peoples faces as they hugged and shook hands There was a call for more volunteers to come forward especially as they have a full schedule with Christmas Day and New Year's Day special days If you haven’t volunteered before maybe the Christmas spirit will give you a nudge towards volunteering this Christmas As far as the run went it was a double out and back with a slight hill at either end plenty of opportunities to pass your friends and wave Just to repeat we have a VERY busy schedule and we really need more of you to sign up We have runs scheduled on December 21st (Santa run) Please email in wilmslow@parkrun.com and help We ae also holding our traditional Christmas drinks party at Smoke Thanks to all the amazing volunteers who did get rather wet it also played havoc with the iphones for the timekeepers so apologies if some results were a bit awry The only official milestone was Victoria Lunn who reached her 50th parkrun red tshirt moment followed by Myles Hall who pushed hard to go sub 18 for the first time Third finisher was Tim Johnson also with a PB with another PB and Georgina Seargent made the podium for the first time we all love Wilmslow parkrun but it needs the regular runners to step up to the plate and occasionally volunteer to make the magic happen of whom 22 were first timers and 19 recorded new Personal Bests Representatives of 30 different clubs took part The event was made possible by 35 volunteers: Today's full results and a complete event history can be found on the Wilmslow parkrun Results Page. The weather has not been kind to Wilmslow parkrun in 2025 New Year’s Day was cancelled as significant parts of the course were completely flooded as the River Bollin burst its bank submerging the picnic tables at the far end The following Saturday extremely low temperatures made the course far too icy almost as bad as Grove Street which was like an ice rink in the town And last week heavy snow covered the course But with typical Wilmslow parkrun tenacity the core team quickly identified a solution with a diversion and extra marshals even though the diversion was somewhat slippery and muddy Hence the recommendation to wear trail shoes Run Director Wayne also asked who had brough their Tiger Feet along However only a few of the older runners understood that music joke swelled by 32 Marple Runners touristing as part of their club championship First finisher was Archie Greenwood (Trafford AC) followed by Luke Mendham (Wilmslow RC) and Andy Beavers (Macclesfield AC) Cara O’brien (Sale Harriers) was first female just ahead of Sue Harrison Celebrating his 600th run was Charlie Batho with his mate Gary Milligan celebrated her 200th volunteering role and she also brought some lovely treats Laura Wallhouse and Florence Collier who all reached their 25 milestone and Archie Greenwood reached 50 parkruns whilst notching first finisher If you have a milestone coming up please let us know in advance or even on the morning Once again, we are really struggling with volunteers. Highest age-grade of 87% was Jackie in the 'really quite old but not past it' category who blazed her 457th parkrun and first at Wilmslow in 23:37 but did stirling work on getting the tokens in a fit state for next week Surely the second most demanding job (after Volunteer Coordinator) In two weeks time, parkruns around the country are hosting MacMillan Cancer Support events We encourage you to wear green and donate at parkrun via a special QR code which will be available on the day of whom 71 were first timers and 31 recorded new Personal Bests The event was made possible by 33 volunteers: Today's full results and a complete event history can be found on the Wilmslow parkrun Results Page Since then 13,703 participants have completed 79,648 parkruns covering a total distance of 398,240 km A total of 1,078 individuals have volunteered 12,182 times Please whitelist confidentials.com to continue to our site and enjoy an Ad-Light experience Since my nephew was born in August last year which isn’t necessarily the vibekiller that you’d expect It was nice to not have to order around a gathering storm of incoming tables endless trays of Cobra hovering overhead and an increasingly busy waiting staff We had a Cobra and perused the menu.  are a nice alternative to the tablecloth alternative but they still couldn’t compete with the brightly coloured land grab from the nephew’s various bits and bobs was largely ignored as he spent the next hour rubbernecking and noseying at everyone that walked through the door It almost goes without saying that we started with poppadoms and a chutney tray I’d had the lightest of lunches and an afternoon in the garden so even a few plate-sized poppadoms weren’t going to make a dent in my appetite We did decide to keep it light on the starters opting simply for some onion bhajis (£5.50 for three) It was a good job we went easy on the starters You tend to try and cover a few bases when it comes to mains in Indian restaurants while still playing much of the greatest hits So it was a tandoori mixed grill (£17.50 for tandoori chicken I’ll start with the toppermost of the order - the butter chicken was the best I’d had in quite a while I put this down to Eastern Revive not shying away from the flavour that makes this dish so much more than a creamier curry - the sweet sharp note of almonds and raisins cutting through.  The king prawn karahi had plump and tasty prawns but wasn’t quite spicy enough for my tastes If you’re hitting the velvety heights of a great butter chicken you want to offset it with something that smacks you between the eyes ticked all the boxes you’d hope it would: the tikka a deep orange with signs of the grill charred on but still tender; the seekh lamb kebab succulent and heaving with garlic; the lamb chop was a deep crimson and kept on the right side of tender far from tough and chewy; and the tandoori chicken kept especially tender due to being served still clinging to the bone which made for a dish you can return to towards of the meal - or even later in the evening when I gave in to temptation and sought out my leftovers while always the bridesmaid when it comes to Indian restaurants The bombay potatoes were brought to the brink of crumbling and served with a sauce that had definitely sat with the spices for plenty of time The garlic naan was the right combination of bready sultanas and coconut were an ideal accompaniment to the butter chicken and When you then add in rice with garlic cooked to that toffee consistency it’s just the array of flavours and textures that you want in this sort of meal When I popped back from the pub about 9pm to collect Ed’s forgotten jacket Whenever I’m around this neck of the woods and walk past It’ll take a little while longer to kick the cigarettes but the early evening curry is a revelation and when it’s of the quality Eastern Revive served up on Saturday I can happily call myself a convert.   Eastern Revive and ALWAYS paid for by Confidentials.com and completely independent of any commercial relationship They are a first-person account of one visit by one knowledgeable restaurant reviewer and don't represent the company as a whole Which restaurants have our readers been visiting in March We look at ten top names due to land in the city Looking for a little lift through your letterbox On a dark damp morning in December it was time to bid a fond farewell to 2024 Run Director Mandy thanked all the volunteers and mentioned a few gaps in the roster for the last of our Festive Four parkruns on Wednesday January 1st Do please email wilmslow@parkrun.com if you can help with that one - or any future parkruns As it was the last Saturday of the month she welcomed 5k Your Way so please think about joining them if you or your friends and family have been affected by cancer It was also a great pleasure to see Viola and Preye Zuokumor daughter and husband of our much loved and missed volunteer Beatrice It was a fight to the finish between Sam Bailey (16:45) and Ollie Sterne (16.46) Hot on their heels was Lauren Heyes from Hallamshire Harriers Sheffield AC with 16.47 - who was not only first female finisher but also broke the female record at Wilmslow we are expecting large numbers on New Year's Day - so come early on Wednesday to avoid disappointment in the car park of whom 73 were first timers and 25 recorded new Personal Bests The event was made possible by 31 volunteers: Beverley DENBY • Ian BRANTHWAITE • Andy WATTS • Colin DAVIES • Anthony COLLIER • Steven CREASEY • Dave BAXTER • Tracey COLLIER • Darren BUDD • Wayne JAFFE • Simon ARMITT • Simon HOLMAN • Margaret HUYTON • Ian RANKIN • Barun CHATTERJEE • Andrew HUGHES • Jonathan ROSE • Chris BEST • Mandy WINCKWORTH • Shirley HILL • Sarah HODGSON • Dave BRYANT • Simon SPAVIN • Jo SPAVIN • Ted LOCK • Sally BOWMAN • Florence COLLIER • Evie TAYLOR-CARRUTHERS • Emily WARD • Oliver FLAXMAN • Eliza SHAW Today's full results and a complete event history can be found on the Wilmslow parkrun Results Page Since then 14,428 participants have completed 83,280 parkruns covering a total distance of 416,400 km A total of 1,110 individuals have volunteered 12,720 times I am not sure how many people read last week's run report "V is for Volunteer!" I'm guessing not that many judging by the difficulty we had in recruiting volunteers this week Thankfully the various appeals that were sent out throughout the week were read in time because in the end we received enough volunteers quite late in the day and we managed therefore to go ahead as normal We do require almost all of you to sign up to receive the volunteer email and a good number of you to volunterer roughly 1 for every 10 runs you undertake will easily help to fill the rota Run Director Wayne thanked the volunteers including one who wished to remain anonymous as he celebrated over 400 volunteer credits and kindly provided some lovely treats for the participants We did have a little incident whe one of younger runners was accidently brushed by one of the faster runners in a slightly congested part of the course No actual harm was done but it did take quite a few flapjacks before the smile returned to the young athletes face please be careful and respect everyone else in the park Next week is our famous Horrible Halloween Fancy Dress parkrun so dust those costumes up and come and join the ghoulish fun A special thank you to visitor Chris Cooper who provided this informative piece for our run report Thanks for taking time out to read this week’s parkrun report for Wilmslow parkrun #430 on Saturday 19th October There is a lot to get through this week so let’s get cracking There was a couple of call outs for volunteers during the week but fortunately we had a healthy number of volunteers and pacers this morning A very big thanks to the following team who helped out Many thanks and I hope you managed to grab a bit of cake or something stronger at the end If you can volunteer then please look at our future roster and don’t worry about any of the roles on offer They are all pretty simple tasks and the core team will always give you fantastic support on your first attempt The highest attendance at Wilmslow occurred on the 1st January 2020 when we saw 525 finishers grabbing a finish token The average number of finishers at Wilmslow is around 188 We had 131 males and 81 males grabbing a finish token and scanning their barcodes We had six who were unscanned and came up as ‘unknown’ so most had remembered their barcodes while deciding what to wear If you can’t get a barcode printed or can’t afford a wristband then you can download it either onto your phone sports watch via the parkrun web-site or some parkrun apps and they all seem to scan fine I should know as I have been a barcode scanner a few times and had no problem with scanning We had age gradings from 20.60% all the way up to 85.15% Our super timekeepers Evie Taylor-Carruthers and Emily Ward were kept busy from 16.47 minutes all the way to 66.46 minutes We saw 44 first timers with an amazing 10 people popping their parkrun cherry at Wilmslow this morning The biggest attendance by any running club this weekend was Wilmslow RC with 8 turning up followed by Wilmslow Striders and Davenport Runners with 6 apiece Milestones wise we had Mike Nolan who picked up his first official milestone number of 25 and Andrew Nealey went one better and reached the heady heights of 50 parkruns completed and now is eligible for a shiny red t-shirt Bob Agnew (210 parkruns) with his first visit to Wilmslow Thomas Bachofner and Christian Brooks reached 70 parkruns with Christian grabbing a PB too We also saw Mark Collier reach 40 parkruns Henry Bunting and James Collinson on their 20th parkrun and finally Jethron Fox is now on double figures with 10 parkruns completed and Simon Taylor complete their first ever parkrun this morning Welcome to the wonderful world of parkrun and we hope to be reporting on milestones from you all in the future As we are talking about total runs completed we have to mention that we saw three members of the 500 club grace our course at Wilmslow this morning Top of the list is Colin Davies with 611 parkruns completed we have Graham Peak who is now on 503 parkruns completed and so recently purchased his nice blue t-shirt Maybe one day our ten new parkrunners will be our future God know how much the 500 milestone t-shirts will cost by then The male course record is still 15:25 by James Knockton The female course record is 17:16 by Sophie Fairbanks The following grabbed a course PB here at Wilmslow this morning They are (with their new times posted in brackets);
