Sam Hutchinson says the pressure is off AFC Wimbledon heading into their play-off double header against Notts County.
The former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder scored the only goal of the game in their 1-0 win over Grimsby to seal Wimbledon’s spot in the top seven.
Johnnie Jackson’s side head to Notts County on Saturday and then host Stuart Maynard’s side the following Saturday.
“I felt like rubbish during the game,” said the 35-year-old.
“But I was happy to get it over the line. I wanted to come off after six minutes but battered on through it like an old war horse.
“It was a good time to score. Because I get one a season from the last nine or 10 years, I just wanted to enjoy it.
“The boys handled the pressure and got the job done – that’s all that matters at this stage of the season.
“The pressure is off now. We have had so much pressure for the last six weeks and it hasn’t really gone our way for whatever reason.
“We know what has happened internally but we’re looking forward to it.”

Johnnie Jackson takes his AFC Wimbledon side to Grimsby Town on the final day of the League Two season
Winning promotion to League One would mean "everything" to AFC Wimbledon boss Johnnie Jackson as his side prepare to visit Grimsby Town on the final day of the League One season
A run of four games without a win has taken the Wombles out of automatic promotion contention and leaving them needing a point to ensure they don't drop out of the play-off spots right at the end
"It'd mean everything to me," Jackson told BBC London TV
"It's been a long road to get here
to be in this position because it's been challenging
The Mariners trail the sixth-placed Dons by two points and two places and will clinch a place in the top seven themselves with victory at Blundell Park on Saturday
Grimsby ran out 1-0 winners thanks to Danny Rose's headed goal in the reverse fixture in November
Despite missing out on automatic promotion
Jackson credited his players for remaining in contention for much of the season
"They've done great to be in and around it all season despite some setbacks," he said
"I said that the only time we came out of it was when the pitch exploded [it was flooded in September] and we fell three or four games behind
then they clawed their way back in from that time
"There's been some real challenges
before Christmas we basically lost three or four midfielders in one week
"To keep fighting the way they have and have their destiny in their own hands and go into the final day of the season fighting for a play-off spot
I think they've done brilliant."
L1 & L2 preview: Promotion and play-off prospects
Top scorer Matty Stevens has 17 League Two goals for Wimbledon this season
Wimbledon's steely defence have conceded 10 fewer goals than any other side in League Two this season (35)
But they are also the lowest scorers in the top seven with 55 goals and Jackson believes this is an area where they have let themselves down at times
Matty Stevens has 17 league goals in a stellar season since joining the club from Forest Green Rovers last summer
Yet only one has come in his past 15 appearances
you couldn't find a steadier lad - the way that he is
he's a goalscorer," Jackson said
other people have to step up and that's probably what we haven't done this is score enough goals
because we've got the best defence by a good way in the entire league
"Just relying on him for goals isn't the way to do it
we need others to step up when he doesn't do it
hopefully he'll get a couple more and that's going to help us."
will have to cope on Saturday without their head coach in the dugout
Jackson was charged with misconduct by the Football Association for acting in an "improper manner" during the Dons' 2-0 loss at home to Port Vale last weekend - a result that sent the Valiants up
He was handed a one-match touchline ban and a £1,000 fine by an independent regulatory commission on Friday
Director of football Craig Cope was given a £650 fine and warning for "acting in an improper towards a match official around the tunnel area after the final whistle"

Coco Gauff's ex-coach Brad Gilbert recently wrote about Iga Swiatek potentially skipping the 2025 Wimbledon Championships on the back of her shocking exit at the Madrid Open
Swiatek suffered a chastening defeat at the hands of Gauff in the semifinals of the WTA 1000 claycourt event in the Spanish capital
It wasn't just the nature of the former No
She appeared frustrated in several instances during the contest
and even experienced an emotional breakdown of sorts after falling 0-3 behind in the second set
as she sat on her courtside bench and covered her head and face with a towel
In the aftermath of Iga Swiatek's exit from the Madrid Open
reports surfaced from Poland suggesting that the Pole is considering skipping this year's grasscourt season
which includes the prestigious Wimbledon Championships
opined that it's a "good plan" for the WTA No
Iconic coach Brad Gilbert, who led Coco Gauff to the 2023 US Open title
it wouldn't be good for Swiatek to skip the Wimbledon Championships if her health allowed her to participate
Gilbert had also reacted to his former pupil's dominant victory against Swiatek in Madrid
Brad Gilbert laid bare how impressed he was with Coco Gauff following the latter's comprehensive victory against Iga Swiatek in the Spanish capital. The vastly-experienced coach, via an X post, called the result an 'absolute hammering'

Multimillion-pound project will also boost capacity by 20% and improve wheelchair accessibility
Different generations of tennis fans may disagree on its name – to traditionalists it will always be Henman Hill
millennials probably plump for Murray Mound and gen Z may know it as Raducanu Rise or even
Jack’s Stack – but all ages can agree that bringing a little shelter to Wimbledon’s most famous viewing area can only be a good thing
Wimbledon’s Hill – which since 1997 has allowed tennis fans with a grounds pass to watch the action on No 1 Court live atop its grassy knoll – is getting a makeover, the All England Lawn and Tennis Club (AELTC) has announced
due to be finished in time for the 2027 championships
will boost the Hill’s capacity by 20% and improve accessibility for wheelchair users
Plans include a new pergola – and there is little Wimbledon likes more than a pergola – which will provide a space for more hanging plants to provide shade and protection from British summer rain
which will replace the structure at the top of the Hill
will wrap around the area’s 150-year-old oak tree while the AELTC hopes to make the area more environmentally sustainable by replacing tarmac paths with permeable resin
New accessible pathways to cross the slope aim to make the Hill easier to navigate for wheelchair users
View image in fullscreenNew paths crossing the slope would be added to improve accessibility
Photograph: AELTC/Allies and Morrison“The redevelopment of our world-famous Hill
will allow even more tennis fans to enjoy its unique atmosphere and vantage point,” said Deborah Jevans
“I am particularly pleased that these plans will increase the accessibility of the Hill for our guests using wheelchairs or who have additional accessibility requirements
It is an exciting opportunity as we look towards 2027 and the 150th anniversary of the first championships.”
A consultation for local residents to learn more about the plans and give feedback is planned on 10 April before a planning application is submitted to Merton council
The AELTC will hope it is a smoother process than it experienced with its plan to vastly expand its grand slam venue
which aims to add 39 courts and an 8,000-seat show court
and to restore a lake designed by Capability Brown
In January a campaign group, Save Wimbledon Park, started legal action to stop the expansion of the club
calling for a judicial review of plans to convert a swathe of the former Wimbledon Park golf course
The protest group says the development of the 29-hectare (72-acre) site – which was given planning permission in September by the mayor of London’s office – is “inappropriate”.
Work on the new-look Hill will start after the 2026 championships, and is expected to be unveiled – presumably with Pimm’s to toast the occasion – for the 150th anniversary of the tournament in 2027.
Ruth Hopkins, general manager and head of access at the charity Level Playing Field, said: “I am delighted that Level Playing Field has played an important role in working with the AELTC to enhance their world-famous hill to be an inclusive and accessible space for everyone attending Wimbledon.
“These plans will deliver significant improvements for all guests but particularly for those with accessibility requirements.”
38 CommentsFormer Wimbledon player and Sunderland coach Carlton Fairweather has died at the age of 63
The Camberwell-born winger was a member of the infamous Crazy Gang as they won promotion to the top flight and later became founder members of the Premier League in 1992
Fairweather established his career after working as a draughtsman and started out in non-League with Dulwich Hamlet
Bromley and Tooting and Mitcham United before joining the Dons as a 23-year-old
He missed the Dons' 1988 FA Cup final triumph over Liverpool with a broken leg but made 164 appearances for the club and scored 28 goals
After leaving Wimbledon in 1993 he travelled to play in Hong Kong and the United States after a brief spell with Carlisle United
After becoming a youth coach back at Wimbledon and then reserve team manager at Crystal Palace, Fairweather moved to Sunderland where he spent 22 years in various coaching and community roles, including three seasons as manager of Sunderland Ladies
Fairweather was part of the Wimbledon team that rose up the divisions to play in the Premier League
Sunderland paid tribute, external to Fairweather
saying he was "a beloved character behind the scenes at the Academy of Light" and said he died on Monday night
Sporting director Kristjaan Speakman said: "Carlton's personality and charisma was unique
He worked across all aspects of our club and the reason he's so highly thought of is down to his dedication
and Carlton's character very rarely shifted from enthusiastic
"Add this to someone who crafted their skill of coaching and mentoring over so many years and it's a special mix."
Wimbledon said in a statement on their website, external: "To this day Carlton is fondly remembered by the Wimbledon faithful and will be sorely missed by all those who knew him well."

A bubbly and brilliant evening of fun that makes the whole audience feel as warm and fuzzy as their legendary host!
Looking as handsome as ever, it’s hard to believe that the glorious Basil Brush has been performing for the past 65 years. He may have come to fame on TV, but more recently he’s been a regular in panto, wowing crowds late into the night at Glastonbury, and working on cruise ships and holiday camps. There’s absolutely no doubt that there is an eager market for his signature, snappy wit, with an excited crowd squeezing in to cabaret seating at New Wimbledon Theatre.
Wimbledon has come up with a genius plan to best use the venue: we enter through a side door straight on to the stage, where Basil is at one end and there’s a full bar at the other. To one side is a view of the glorious splendour of the theatre’s Frank Matcham auditorium: it’s a perfect space for this show.
Basil doesn’t pause for a second before launching in to his customary silliness, accompanied joyfully by Martin Cabble-Reid, or Mr Martin as he is of course known, who’s now in his ninth year as Basil’s sidekick. There’s a lovely relationship between the two, totally at ease in each other’s company, and Basil’s teasing is taken with warm good humour.
Live and Unleashed is not a children’s show, it’s for ages 15+, not because it’s rude, just because it covers more adult topics of conversation such as dating and politics. Even in the slightly saucy bits, Basil manages to pull things back with silly one-liners that dilute anything potentially crossing the line.
It’s a fun-packed couple of hours with a huge variety of features that have the audience howling with laughter, from off-the-shelf gags to guest appearances from Sooty & Sweep and a video chat with Hugh Bonneville. There’s even a special guest for the evening. Tonight it’s Matt Daniel-Baker, mind reader extraordinaire, who is bewilderingly talented but still upstaged by Basil’s side-splitting messing around behind him.
Basil remains an unaffected, humble fox despite his mightily impressive career. He tells us of his lifetime achievement award from the British Puppet Guild, how he’s performed with superstar entertainers including the great Tom Jones and ABBA. He was even asked by Princess Diana to give a private show for young Wills and Harry! This is a performer of substance and standing (just not standing very tall…).
There is some fourth wall breaking when Basil comments on the bloke beneath his desk, and that guy really needs some credit. To spend two full hours with your arm in the air, never letting the superb, distinctive character drop for a second, while ad-libbing and telling jokes, and even offering an admirable rendition of ‘Nessun Dorma’, deserves considerable appreciation.
By the end of the night we’re on our feet clapping and singing along as if we were at a Butlins immersive experience, before popping to the front for selfies with the illustrious Mr Brush. The room is full of love and admiration and it’s been a truly exceptional evening out for the young at heart.

your best bet at securing tickets to Wimbledon 2025 could be through a secondary ticket seller like StubHub
it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will live long in the memory
we break down the current prices on StubHub for some of the first rounds at Wimbledon this year:
There are multiple options for those looking to buy tickets to Wimbledon 2025
Tickets can be split between Ballot Tickets
GOAL lays out some of the details to know about each option
The main way and most popular option for Wimbledon is to apply for tickets through the Public Ballot
Like many other major sporting events where demand far outstrips allocation
this allows a theoretically fair distribution to fans looking to secure their spot at the Championships
That oversubscription means that any application is not guaranteed a ticket
purchases are limited to one pair per household
The ballot for the 2025 Championships is now closed
and no further applications are being accepted
Resale tickets are sold by ticket holders who can no longer attend or wish not to attend the action at Wimbledon
with a system operated by Wimbledon itself and the secondary marketplace online through StubHub
The first sees Show Court tickets that have been returned to a resale kiosk throughout the day are listed on a first-come
Tickets are priced at £15 for Centre Court and £10 for Court No
they are only available to those already within the venue's grounds
meaning they are effectively only for Grounds Pass holders on their respective days
If you’re looking to be a little more organised in securing a Wimbledon ticket before reaching the venue, ticket resale platforms such as StubHub are your best bet to catch a glimpse of some of the sport’s greats.
The Queue is as simple as it sounds and is closely associated with Wimbledon. Those without tickets can queue before the gates open and throughout the day to pick up a Grounds Pass or one of a limited number of Show Court tickets on every day of the tournament, bar the final four. Once full, the venue operates on a one-in, one-out policy.
Grounds Pass tickets cost £30 for the early rounds of the tournament, though they decrease in price throughout the Championships. This is in part because the amount of access they offer is restricted as the various tournaments reach their closing stages.
You can join The Queue at Wimbledon Park, where you will be given a Queue Card, which signifies your position in The Queue.
For those looking to enjoy the Championships in sumptuous comfort, a hospitality package organised by Wimbledon's official partner and provider, Keith Prowse, is the best option. These options include seats at Centre Court and Court No. 1, along with a variety of luxury additions.
Demand frequently outstrips allocation here, too. Hospitality for the 2025 Championships is now closed and not accepting further applications. However, you can register your interest in the 2026 edition and get a head start on planning for next year.
If you don’t just want a ticket for this year but one for every day of Wimbledon Championship action for the next five years, then a debenture is the rather expensive avenue you can take.
Debentures run over a series of years, with the current cycle being 2021-2025 for Centre Court and 2022-2026 on Court No.1, meaning if you were to purchase one today, your ticket would be valid for a limited period. Applications are now open for 2026-2030 Centre Court and 2027-2031 No.1 Court debentures.
The number of debentures available is limited, and prices fluctuate during the weekly auctions operated by Dowgate Capital Limited.
BetaAskFrequently asked questionsCan I get a ticket for more than one day of Wimbledon?Only one pair of tickets per household can be secured through the Public Ballot. That doesn’t mean you can only get two tickets for one day. If you wish to watch more than one day of Wimbledon from SW19, you can use other methods of acquiring a ticket, such as The Queue, hospitality, debentures, or picking up tickets through StubHub.
No, you cannot enter the Wimbledon grounds without a valid ticket, pass, or authorized voucher. Entry is restricted to those with valid tickets and proof of identity. During the Championships, even visiting limited areas may require tickets or passes.
No, you don't pay extra to sit on Henman Hill (also known as Murray Mound or Raducanu Rise) at Wimbledon. Access to the hill is included with a General Admission Ticket to the Wimbledon grounds. This ticket allows you to explore the grounds and watch matches on the large screen at Henman Hill.
Getting tickets to Wimbledon is very difficult. The Public Ballot is highly oversubscribed, with only about 1 in 10 applicants receiving tickets. Queuing on the day is an option, but there's no guarantee of success, especially for Show Court tickets. Debenture tickets are an alternative, but they are more expensive and require a commitment to future tournaments.
In addition to the above, some tickets may be released for sale closer to the tournament date. There's also the option of purchasing tickets from the resale market. StubHub is one of the leading retailers on the secondary marketplace. StubHub is a legitimate merchant in the ticket resale marketplace and a safe place for fans to buy tickets. StubHub's website guarantees that you will get tickets in time for the event you are attending and a valid ticket for entry.
Port Vale secured automatic promotion to League One with their 2-0 victory over AFC Wimbledon
Port Vale booked an immediate return to League One with a 2-0 win at AFC Wimbledon to secure automatic promotion with one game still to play
After a first half in which Darren Moore's side failed to produce a single effort on target
Vale came to life in the space of three minutes as Jayden Stockley and Jaheim Headley beat Owen Goodman to send the travelling fans into raptures
Stockley had already had an effort ruled out by an offside flag before he got on the end of Headley's free-kick to head home in the 64th minute for his 11th goal of the campaign
Headley went from provider to scorer three minutes later as he ran on to a fine pass from captain George Byers to side-foot past Goodman and
with Doncaster Rovers beating Bradford City
seal promotion with a chance to still lift the title on the final weekend of the season
the first half failed to live up to its billing as the enormity of the occasion produced a scrappy
It took until time added on for either goalkeeper to be tested
with Port Vale's Ben Amos denying Sam Hutchinson
Doncaster's half-time lead against Bradford
meant Vale knew a victory would surely guarantee promotion and the second-half performance reflected their recent form of six wins from nine outings
Stockley thought he had nudged his side in front after 55 minutes as he reacted quickest when Connor Hall's header had hit the bar and goalkeeper Goodman
tapping home from close range only for the assistant's flag to curtail the celebrations
Wimbledon failed to heed the warning and paid the price nine minutes later with Stockley left unmarked to flick a header beyond Goodman from Headley's free-kick delivery
Wing-back Headley then gave the visitors some breathing space as he latched on to Byer's defence-splitting pass to finish confidently and cue the celebrations
Jayden Stockley (right) opened the scoring for Port Vale after having a goal disallowed
AFC Wimbledon assistant boss Terry Skiverton said:
"In the second half there was a couple of mind-boggling decisions that cost us
"[Riley] Harbottle gets a head injury and he's down for 20 seconds
we alert the fourth official and he says it seems like he's tried to get up
"Our lad is down for five minutes after Port Vale score
then seven minutes later one of their players gets a head injury [and] the referee blew up
"At two goals down it's really hard for us to get back into the game
the momentum of the game had changed – Port Vale knew how to see the game out
especially when you see the other team getting promoted and celebrating in front of our fans."
"Today was a case of getting the promotion sealed
Next week we'll see our fans and it will be a packed house at Vale Park
"I'm really pleased for everyone connected with the club
I was pleased with the performance as much as anything
They haven't given much away here all season
"But the manner we took the game to them was really pleasing
and credit to the players after the disallowed goal for regaining their focus
and the second goal from Jaheim is a fantastic well-worked goal."
Saturday lunchtime's win at the Cherry Red Records Stadium guaranteed automatic promotion for Vale with one match in hand – but it did not always look that comparatively comfortable for Darren Moore's men
They led the table for most of the first half of the season
but can now wrap up the league title if they beat Gillingham at home next Saturday and Doncaster Rovers fail to win at Notts County
who secured a play-off place with a 3-1 win at Harrogate Town
Jaheim Headley set up team-mate Stockley and scored one himself to help propel Port Vale back to the third tier
After last season's turbulent campaign
which featured the sackings of manager Andy Crosby and director of football David Flitcroft
Vale failed to recover and were relegated from League One following a 2-0 defeat at Bolton Wanderers in the penultimate match of the season
But the club's owners had crucially already made their biggest decision in bringing in Darren Moore in February 2024 on a five-and-a-half-year contract
Their show of faith in giving the former West Bromwich Albion
Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town boss such a long-term deal was quickly rubberstamped by confirming that he would remain in charge
Vale started well with an opening-day win at Salford City
featuring two goals from their new captain Ben Garrity
They then lost just three of their first 16 fixtures to stand five points clear at the top by mid-November
But the loss of the inspirational Garrity to injury triggered a run of eight matches without a win and
Moore also dipped into the transfer market
signing Huddersfield's Jaheim Headley
who made an instant impact on his home league debut
after back-to-back February home wins against Notts County and Salford City
they climbed into the automatic promotion places a month later following a late derby winner at local rivals Crewe Alexandra
After battling back from 3-0 down to suffer a 3-2 defeat at Mark Hughes' Carlisle United on Good Friday
Jesse Debrah's 95th-minute equaliser against Grimsby
in front of Vale Park's best crowd of the season
then ensured it was not a pointless Easter
leading to Vale's promotion-sealing victory at Wimbledon

AFC Wimbledon secured a League Two play-off spot with a 1-0 win at Grimsby on Saturday
Sam Hutchinson scored the only goal of the game
Here is Dave Hunt-Jackson’s lowdown on the match:
AFC Wimbledon defied the odds and their alarming recent form to snatch a battling victory at Grimsby’s Blundell Park and grab a play-off place that sees them extend their season and keep promotion hopes alive
Sam Hutchinson’s first goal for the South Londoners proved the difference in a nervy encounter while another clean sheet ensured that they took all three points and fifth place in the final table
Having gone into the game with just ten points and eight goals from the previous ten games and against a side who needed to win to usurp the Dons’ play-off spot
this was likely to be a tall order for Johnnie Jackson’s side
They produced the sort of high tempo and committed display that has been lacking for some time and might have seen them promoted already had they reached these heights more often in the last third of the season
they go into the post-season with a result that gives them a little momentum and perhaps a little self-belief too
who was absent from the bench following his sending off against Port Vale
preferring Marcus Browne as Matty Stevens’ strike partner
Jake Reeves returned from his suspension at Callum Maycock’s expense
The Dons packed the midfield with ball winners
and Sam Hutchinson and Alistair Smith joined him in the centre
Jackson was always going to look for a clean sheet first and foremost and the three central midfielders played no small part in achieving it
Whilst the front two were feeding on scraps Grimsby had only a glaring missed header from Danny Rose to show for their efforts as Wimbledon ran out surprisingly comfortable winners
they defended further up the field than has been the case in recent games and looked more like the side of the first two-thirds of the season than the one that has struggled recently
Rock solid at the back as he and his fellow back line kept the hosts’ goal threats to a minimum
BEST MOMENT: Sam Hutchinson’s reaction as he celebrated a first goal in three years and his first for AFC Wimbledon
MOAN OF THE MATCH: There was nothing to moan about in a fine win
but the amazing 1,146 Dons’ support must be wondering why this level of performance has been missing for much of the last third of the season
Notts County’s struggles and only seventh-placed Chesterfield in better form than AFC Wimbledon
could the Dons yet fill their potential and achieve the promotion that they arguably should have already completed
three extra fixtures would certainly not go amiss either
It’s just the start – we need to go and finish the job off
“But coming here under massive pressure today against a direct rival that can leapfrog you
We all would have loved to have been in that top three
but if you look at where we are as a football club and how far we have come
everyone would have accepted that fifth is a massive overachievement compared to our rivals.”

AFC Wimbledon boss Johnnie Jackson expressed his pride in his side after they secured a League Two play-off place following a 1-0 win over Grimsby on Saturday
A 52nd-minute strike from Sam Hutchinson gave the Dons all three points and a fifth-placed finish
Jackson has taken the South Londoners to the play-offs in his third season in charge at Plough Lane
They will take on Notts County across two legs for a place at Wembley in a final shootout for a spot in League One
“Not with what they have done today but what they have done throughout the season
“They have absolutely given everything for the club
They’re a great bunch of lads that are a joy to work with
everyone would have accepted that fifth is a massive overachievement compared to our rivals
“Hopefully there are three more games to go
The boys should be really pleased with themselves
“They deserve the opportunity to go and attack the play-offs.”

Grimsby boss David Artell is expecting a cagey affair on Saturday in their final day battle for a play-off spot against AFC Wimbledon.
The Dons, sixth in League Two, head to Blundell Park knowing a point would be enough to secure their place in the top seven.
Grimsby are eighth and need to beat the South Londoners to leapfrog them in the hunt for a play-off spot.
Wimbledon will be without Johnnie Jackson in the dugout after he was sent off in their 2-0 defeat to Port Vale last Saturday.
Artell said: “If you had said to us in August: ‘You have one game to get into the play-offs,’ I would have snatched your hand off.
“If you had said the same in February and March, or April, we would have said the same.
“We hope there are a few more twists and turns in our season before Saturday.
“It was a real tough game down at Wimbledon and we managed to edge it with a goal. It played out as we expected it to.
“We’re hoping that it’s tight and cagey. We hope we can get a little bit of quality from some of our players to get some goals.
“You only have to win by one and with the clarity of our situation allows, hopefully that will be enough.
“It’s probably the biggest game this football club has had in its recent history and it’s one we’re all looking forward to.
“Hopefully we have got 90 more minutes to show we’re worthy of a play-off place.”
Johnnie Jackson was appointed AFC Wimbledon boss in May 2022 following the club's relegation to League Two
AFC Wimbledon boss Johnnie Jackson said his players were "magnificent" following their entertaining 1-1 draw at fellow promotion hopefuls Doncaster Rovers
Alistair Smith's instinctive fifth minute strike had given the visitors an early lead in south Yorkshire but Jackson's men were forced to play for over an hour with 10 men following captain Jake Reeves' dismissal for a high tackle on Rovers' Harry Clifton
After Rovers were also reduced to 10 men when substitute Billy Sharp was sent off 50 seconds after coming on to the pitch for an off-the-ball incident
Jamie Sterry's deflected equaliser earned the hosts a share of the spoils
"It took an unbelievable effort from the lads," Jackson told BBC Radio London
"For us to dig in and to end the game trying to win it the way that we did
"It [Saturday's match] wasn't much fun to be honest
the old ticker was going but you have to try to stay calm to portray that to the players."

Dons skipper eyes promotion at 'spiritual' home
Victory on Saturday would have seen the Dons leapfrog Doncaster and to within one point of stuttering Walsall
who currently occupy the final promotion place in League Two
with Mat Sadler's side now winless in their last 10 league matches following a dismal run
despite the missed opportunity to close the gap with four matches remaining
"I don't think this is one of them where we've let the lead slip," he said
Aron Sasu has an opportunity so there's absolutely no criticism of our players whatsoever
"I told the players if they turn up like that
four more times I think that puts us really close."
2025 Poland's Iga Swiatek in action during her semi final match against Coco Gauff of the U.S
voices strong disapproval of Iga Swiatek’s potential decision to skip Wimbledon this year
The tennis world was taken by storm when reports surfaced suggesting that Swiatek
might opt to sit out the remainder of the clay season and potentially miss Wimbledon
only to return around the time of the US Open if her performances in Rome and the French Open don’t meet expectations
The revelation comes hot on the heels of Swiatek’s staggering defeat against Gauff in the Madrid semifinals
where the American tennis prodigy dominated with a resounding 6-1
Despite their history of encounters favoring Swiatek on clay
Gauff’s recent triumph marked her first win over the Polish powerhouse on clay courts in their sixth face-off on the surface
expressed his dismay at the prospect of Swiatek skipping Wimbledon
“Not a fan of skipping Wimbledon if healthy.” The tennis community remains divided on whether Swiatek’s reported decision is a strategic move or a misstep in her career trajectory
Swiatek openly admitted her struggles on the court
acknowledging her subpar performance and lackluster movement during the match against Gauff
The 23-year-old player expressed her disappointment
“For sure I feel like I haven’t been moving well and
So I wasn’t really sure what I have in my tool box… For sure
like I didn’t even have a plan B because nothing was working today.”
As the tennis world eagerly anticipates Swiatek’s next moves and Gauff’s continued rise in the sport
the looming question of Swiatek’s potential absence from Wimbledon lingers
stirring controversy and speculation within the tennis community

We are thrilled with the success of our public CrowdJustice campaign so far

The Save Wimbledon Park campaign (“SWP”) has been actively working since 2021 against the proposal of the All England Lawn Tennis Club (“AELTC”
the private club that annually run the Wimbledon tennis Championships) to develop the highly protected former Wimbledon Park golf course into an industrial-scale tennis complex
We believe the scale and scope of the proposed development is unjustified and unlawful.
SWP are crowdfunding to proceed with a Judicial Review (“JR”) of the GLA’s grant of planning permission for the proposed development
JR is a legal process that allows courts to examine whether a decision made by a public body is lawful
Legal fees for a JR are expected to be approximately £200,000
This includes expenses already incurred of over £50,000
which have been funded by a small group of seed funders.
The heritage land is a valuable irreplaceable habitat meant for the people to appreciate as a public recreational green space protected under Trust. It is Metropolitan Open Land, a Grade II* listed park, in a Conservation Area and a heritage “Capability” Brown landscape. It is one of the most protected spaces in London. Click here for a summary of the environmental issues
There are over 50 Metropolitan Open Land sites in Greater London which are similarly under threat from development
The land, located in both Merton and Wandsworth Councils, was purchased in 1993 by the AELTC subject to a restrictive covenant prohibiting development - making any large-scale development unlawful. Click here for more information on the covenants
Merton approved the AELTC’s planning application whilst Wandsworth unanimously refused it
The GLA ultimately approved the planning application
The High Court has now issued an Order confirming that Save Wimbledon Park may proceed for Judicial Review of the GLA’s planning decision.
The Court decided that “The Claimant [SWP] has raised arguable grounds which merit consideration at a full hearing”. The case is now listed for Trial in July 2025. Click here for more information on the current legal situation
Save Wimbledon Park Ltd firmly believes that disputes are best settled by discussion
not by resorting to lawyers and the courts and continues to encourage a healthy dialogue to resolve the dispute.
despite our repeated requests we’ve not been able to persuade the AELTC to meet with us to try and resolve this matter.
We are extremely grateful to members and supporters who
have generously contributed to the seed-funding which enabled us to receive legal advice and take these first legal steps
Without your help this would not have been possible
It’s a real David and Goliath story playing out and we truly believe in the community having a voice

and we are truly grateful to our very many supporters and donors for their generosity in backing our claim for Judicial Review of the Deputy Mayor's decision to grant planning permission
When we launched this public CrowdJustice campaign 4 weeks ago
we considered that £120,000 was a reasonable goal for this part of our fundraising efforts
while at the same time we were exploring other possible sources of funding direct to SWP
Now that the trial of Judicial Review is closer and now that
with such generous help from our public supporters
we have conducted a careful review of the expected legal expense of fighting this action
we consider it prudent to increase our public campaign goal to £160,000 in order to fully engage our legal team and ensure we can conduct the litigation to the highest standards
We remain very hopeful that our supporters will continue to generously back our campaign and help us to reach this goal
On Saturday 5 April the total raised by our Crowd Justice campaign passed the £100,000-mark
a truly magnificent (and quite humbling) achievement
after just 20 days and this was from 685 donors
We are so grateful to our supporters and donors for your generosity and public-spiritedness in backing our claim for Judicial Review of the Deputy Mayor’s decision to grant planning permission
We held two very successful fund-raising meetings towards the end of March
We are very grateful to local resident (and TV personality) Andy Hamilton for compering both events
Star guests at both were actress Thelma Ruby
and Gabriel a local schoolboy who had organised a petition among his classmates
Our campaign has evidently attracted the attention of the BBC
They ran a piece on the local evening news ahead of our St Barnabas meeting
Last Sunday the Politics London show broadcast quite a lengthy segment in which our MP Paul Kohler challenged the AELTC Chair Debbie Jevans to meet with SWP to discuss the scheme
and to consider the possibility of a compromise
Ms Jevans agreed to a meeting but was non-committal about her willingness to compromise
We will keep our supporters updated on this front
the trial of the Judicial Review proceedings has been fixed for 8 & 9 July 2025
relating to the statutory public recreation trust
are expected to reach trial towards the end of this year
We will keep our supporters briefed on this as matters develop
the AELTC’s latest Community Newsletter suggests that the local community is champing at the bit to realise the “many community benefits” offered by their development
There is no acknowledgement of the major legal hurdles which they have to surmount in order to be able to proceed with their development
The AELTC appear unwilling to acknowledge or respond to the massive local opposition to their scheme
Still no mention of the restrictive covenants
which would totally prevent this development
Please continue to tell your friends and family about our campaign
In under two weeks of crowd funding we have raised £75,000
Thank you for helping us towards our target of £120,000! We are so heartened at the strong response with recent donations from £5 to £5000+
Many donors have written comments with their donations
Thank you for these personal reflections highlighting your depth of feeling for protected green spaces
concern about the environmental devastation
lack of trust in the AELTC’s promises
On Wednesday 26 March we held a well attended public meeting in Wimbledon with special guests of local residents Andy Hamilton, Thelma Ruby (100) and schoolboy Gabriel (9). We are hosting another public meeting on Monday 31 March in Southfields. Details here
Please tell your friends and family about our campaign and events

Thank you to our supporters who have helped us to raise £50,000 in just one week!
There are now two court cases currently in progress concerning the AELTC’s proposed development on the former golf course land in Wimbledon park
It is for this case that SWP is actively crowd-funding on this site
SWP is challenging the legality of the Mayor of London’s decision to grant planning permission for the development
This challenge is called Judicial Review and SWP is having to fund its considerable legal expense of fighting the case
We have therefore updated our funding target to £150,000
The second case is entirely separate and concerns the legal status of the land
SWP say that the land is protected by a statutory trust
and that the proposed development is incompatible with public rights of access
The AELTC disagree and have started court proceedings to decide the point
SWP has issued the following statement about this second case:
“To resolve the question of whether a statutory trust exists on the former Wimbledon Park Golf Club land
the All England Club currently considers that it is in the public and local community interest to put that question before the court for a decision
Save Wimbledon Park Ltd has agreed to act as a representative defendant in this case
the All England Club has agreed to cover Save Wimbledon Park's legal costs in order to ensure fair opportunity for both sides to put their case to the court
Both parties agree that having this matter resolved is an important step in establishing the status of the land.”
Neither of these two court cases addresses the covenants which the AELTC entered into when it acquired the golf course land
preventing building on the land and restricting its use to leisure and recreation
Both the AELTC and London Borough of Merton remain silent about whether the development can proceed with these covenants in force
We hope to see you at one of our upcoming events on 26 and 31 March. Click here for details
There are no public comments on this case page.
