A second successive 2-1 loss saw the Hornets miss the opportunity to strengthen their grip on third spot after the top two both fell to defeats by the same scoreline the gap to the chasers was closed with victories for fourth-placed Cray Valley and fifth-placed Dover but the margin to sixth spot is still a healthy eight points with eight matches to play Camilo Restrepo’s intended cross somehow ended up in the corner of the Horsham net to give the visitors the lead but a fine Reece Meekums goal levelled the scores before the break James Hammond passed up a glorious chance to put his side in front immediately after the interval and the decisive moment came when Jack Strange mishit a back pass allowing Theo Alexandrou to run through and bag the winner Charlie Hempstead was on hand to bring you the full details Read Full Match Report Δdocument.getElementById( "ak_js_1" ).setAttribute( "value" Last MatchIsthmian League Premier DivisionThe Fusion Aviation Community Stadium, HorshamSaturday April 26 2025, 3:00 pmHorsham5Hashtag United1Match Report Next MatchSussex Senior Cup FinalAmerican Express Stadium, FalmerThursday May 8 2025, 7:30 pmHorshamLittlehampton TownView Fixtures Send a tweet containing #HorshamFC to get involved. Lublin’s synopsis reads: “As three young boys set off from Mezritsh with a case of bristle brushes to sell in the great market town of Lublin wearing shoes of uneven quality and possessed of decidedly unequal enthusiasms not Elya’s jokes nor Kiva’s prayers nor Ziv’s visions for a revolutionary future can prepare them for the future as it comes barrelling down to meet them.” This year’s judging panel was comprised of Kasriel They said: “What a wonderful – and excruciating – process judging this prize was We were and are so proud of our longlist and our shortlist Each of these books conveys ‘the idea of Jewishness to the general reader’ as the Prize rubric has it – at the same time engaging with a remarkably wide variety of material “Choosing one winner was not a simple process and there was much impassioned debate; all of us judges absolutely stand behind each of these titles and Manya Wilkinson’s Lublin was the book that surprised us most left the most lingering impression in all of our minds.” The information on this page is intended for journalists If you click NO you will come back to Mynewsdesk.com Northumbria University alum and Chief Executive Officer of Gatwick Airport to going down to ten men early in the second half Dover started brightly and nearly had the perfect opening when Ruben Soares-Junior collided with the Wingate goalkeeper in the second minute only for his effort to be dramatically cleared off the line The Whites dominated possession in the early stages delivering dangerous balls into the box but struggling to create clear-cut opportunities their promising start was undone in the 34th minute when Ryan Lowe unleashed a long-range strike into the far corner Dover responded well and went close just before the break with a near-post header looping over the bar Their task became significantly harder in the 53rd minute when Alfie Matthews was sent off after picking up a second yellow card keeping possession well and searching for a way back into the match Their persistence paid off in the 66th minute when Luke Baptiste produced a stunning acrobatic volley to equalise finishing superbly after an excellent cross from Roman Charles-Cook and they looked capable of securing a result disaster struck just nine minutes later when Charles-Cook inadvertently headed into his own net from a Wingate corner Dover made attacking changes in an attempt to salvage something from the game and they nearly snatched a point deep into stoppage time Substitute Kweku-Conrad Lucan fired narrowly wide in the 97th minute The defeat marks back-to-back losses for the Whites who will now turn their attention to their next fixture against Whitehawk Isthmian League – Premier DivisionAttendance: 270Kick-off: 3pmReferee: Samuel OlhausenVenue: Maurice Rebak Stadium The tables have turned since and a poor run of form bookended by a draw and defeat against Chatham Town means Wingate and Finchley have dropped to fourteenth the one shining light is the continued Saturday Horsham return to the Fusion Aviation Community Stadium this weekend with their sights set on taking three points from their clash with visiting Wingate & Finchley manager Dom Di Paola was not too downcast after seeing his side outplay the Darts in the first half and have the better of the chances in the second even though the hosts dominated possession after the interval because although we hit the woodwork three times the reality is that we didn’t convert our chances and then we missed a one-on-one that would have put the game to bed with fifteen minutes to go we’ve outplayed all the other teams in the playoff positions in at least one of our fixtures against them Every team knows they’ve been in a game against us and we’re right in the mix despite giving them a big head start in the first half of the season because of all our cup matches We’re in a great position and the challenge is still the same – to get as many points as we can and see where it takes us.” That challenge continues against a Blues side who have been one of the great entertainers this season with their matches serving up an average of 3.6 goals and their striker Ogo Obi being the equal-highest scorer in the division Ahmet Rifat’s side are too far behind fifth-placed Dover Athletic to harbour serious playoff aspirations but are also comfortably clear of the drop zone so they are in the happy position of being able to relax and enjoy themselves the above stats would suggest that they have been doing just that all season the fixture between the sides earlier this season was settled in the Hornets’ favour by a single Joel Daly goal in a match that will mostly be remembered for taking place in the midst of Storm Bert It is reasonably safe to assume that conditions for the return encounter will be rather calmer Horsham’s 16-man matchday squad picks itself with Jack Brivio still not ready for a return and Charlie Hester-Cook – scorer of the Hornets’ goal in the equivalent fixture last season – also sidelined The match has been designated as the Her Game Too fixture in support of the campaign of that name launched in May 2021 with the aim of tackling sexism in football and ensuring that women and girls feel safe and welcome at all levels of the game Its mission is to create a more inclusive environment where everyone can enjoy football without fear of discrimination or harassment Northern Premier League and Southern League are showing their support for the campaign by celebrating Her Game Too over the weekend of 8/9 March to coincide with THERE WILL BE AN 11 AM PITCH INSPECTION AHEAD OF THE GAME Cray Wanderers play the first away game of 2025 on Saturday 4th January as Neil Smith’s in-form side head to North London to face Wingate & Finchley for the third time this season Cray have been on a good run since the start of December and have lost just one of the last seven games and on New Year’s Day produced another inventive and solid performance to beat Dulwich Hamlet 1-0 courtesy of Frankie Raymond’s 83rd minute strike After a first half where Shaun Rowley had to make a couple of key saves Cray were the better side in the second and Nathan Jeche Kenny Coker and Josh Williams all came close to scoring before Raymond’s classy strike The win moved the Wands up to 11th in the table on 32 points from 24 games and a great turnaround and have picked up 26 points since a goalless draw with Whitehawk on 22nd October when Cray were at the bottom of the table and have had five 1-0 wins in the last seven matches Defensively Cray have been very resolute conceding just twenty six goals and Shaun Rowley has kept fifteen clean sheets which is remarkable for a side that was struggling early in the season The Dulwich win meant Cray are just six points behind Horsham in 5th place but perhaps more importantly nine clear of the bottom four although Cray have played a couple of games more Cray will be tested against a very strong Wingate & Finchley side who have just been going through an indifferent run of form and without a win in eight but were in the playoff places earlier in the season after one defeat in eight during October-November Ahmet Rifat’s side have won at both Dover Athletic and Dartford and are a club that exceeded expectations by reaching the playoffs last season when usually tipped to struggle Wingate & Finchley never played on New Year’s Day as their game at Potters Bar Town was postponed due to the wet weather and their last outing was a 2-3 defeat at Folkestone Invicta on 28th December with goals from Zack Newton and Ben Ward-Cochrane Wingate & Finchley are 13th in the table on 31 points after 23 games but another good run could see them playoff contenders once again The teams have met twice already this season in the 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup with the sides drawing 1-1 at Flamingo Park on 14th September with David Ijaha’s goal cancelled out by a late Ogo Obi penalty Cray won the replay three days later at Wingate & Finchley with David Smith’s goal just before half time The last time the sides met in the league was on January 27th 2024 with Gary Lockyer’s overhead kick winning the game for Cray 1-0 At home this season Wingate & Finchley have beaten Dulwich Hamlet (3-2) Carshalton Athletic (2-1) and Hastings United (2-1) Wingate & Finchley were beaten by Potters Bar Town (1-2) Billericay Town (0-1) and Cheshunt (0-1) on Boxing Day Away form has seen wins at Canvey Island (3-2) Their other games ended in defeat at Carshalton Athletic Wingate & Finchley beat Thame United in the FA Cup before losing to the Wands and in the FA Trophy exited at the 3QR losing at Chatham Town and were beaten at home by Tilbury in the Isthmian League Cup Games between the sides over the years have been very close and always competitive and will be again although it may be one for the fans to wrap up warm Cash and card are accepted at all sales points at the stadium Supporting ID required for concessions or full price admission will be charged The simplest way to get to the stadium is to get on to the A406 North Circular Road go past Henlys Corner (taking the left fork after the traffic lights) and then drive for about 1 mile The exit to take is the one immediately after a BP garage Take the slip road and then turn right at the lights onto the A1000 At the end of the slip road turn left at the lights then after 100m pass through another set of lights Then at the next set of lights turn right into Summers Lane The Stadium is a few hundred metres down on the right hand side Please be aware NOT to park in the Rugby Club next door as they will close their gates and lock you in although please note not to park on the kerbs and also some surrounding roads have yellow lines The Club car park on matchdays is available for Club Officials (Home & Away) Blue Badge Parking: 4 free spaces are available on the front forecourt The nearest station is New Southgate in Travelcard Zone 4 approximately 1.5 miles from the Abrahams Stadium Trains are operated by First Capital Connect and can be picked up from Finsbury Park At the top of the station steps take the right hand gangway which brings you onto Station Road Head left up Station Road towards the bus stop The regular 382 service to Millbrook Park goes via Summers Lane and takes about 5-10 minutes You will need to alight at the Woodgrange Avenue stop Nearest Pubs:  The nearest pubs are the Elephant Inn in North Finchley which is also a Thai Restaurant around 0.6 miles away with the Tally Ho (Wetherspoons) similarly located If coming into East Finchley then the Old White Lion and the Bald Faced Stag are a bit of a trek on foot but the 263 bus will take you from there close enough to the ground For a decent chippie The Two Brothers Fish restaurant in Finchley is worth a stop off About 1.4 miles away or a 263 (south bound) bus will take you to the ground Finchley is an area of the LB of Barnet which has three town centres in East Finchley North Finchley and Finchley Central (Church End) and developed from the late 1800’s with connections to the Great North Railway The area Isthmian Premier – Saturday 12th April Cray Wanderers play the penultimate home game of an historic first season at Flamingo Park as 10th placed Wands host 11th placed Wingate & Finchley in what will be the fourth meeting of the season Cray will come into the game high in confidence after a terrific 2-0 win at Billericay Town last Saturday The game plan was perfected virtually to the letter as after a cagey first half Cray showed far more attacking potency than the title contenders and Soul Kader early on made it seven goals in seven games with a classy run and finish Nyren Clunis is another finished the season as per usual in good form and notched his 11th goal of the season to make it 2-0 in the 64th minute Cray defended stoutly to complete an eighteenth clean sheet of the season for keeper Shaun Rowley but the back four were outstanding as were the whole team who helped give the final month of the season a great start After Saturday Cray have a huge say in who will be going up as Champions as over Easter the Wands visit Horsham and on Monday finish the home fixtures against Dartford so a great boost for the team to have tough opponents to play towards the end of the season rather than tame end of season affairs Certainly Saturday’s game will not fit into this category as both teams look to aim for a 60+ point haul for the season and Wingate & Finchley themselves at points in the season have looked like live playoff contenders The teams met twice early in the campaign in the 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup which ended in a 1-1 draw at Flamingo Park in September with David Ijaha’s goal cancelled out by top scorer Cray though won the replay three nights later The two teams met in the league on 28th January on a wet and grim night and the game matched the mood for the most part of it but Ben Watt notched another injury time goal to win the match for the home side Ahmet Rifat’s side have had an incredible run of results away from home against four of the title contenders having won at Dover They were up with the contenders going into November but a run of ten games without a win was ended by the 1-0 win against Cray in January and went on to lose only one of the next nine games Last Saturday Wingate & Finchley picked up a point from a goalless draw at Lewes Away form has been very good with wins at Canvey Island (3-2) Hastings United (2-0) and Billericay Town (3-1) They drew at Potters Bar Town (0-0) and Lewes (0-0) and were beaten at Carshalton Athletic (2-3) Chatham Town (1-3) and Chichester City (1-2) At home Wingate & Finchley beat Dulwich Hamlet (3-2) Whitehawk (3-1) and drew with Folkestone Invicta The only home defeats came against Potters Bar Town Top scorer is Ogo Obi with 27 goals in all competitions The Blues finish the season with a home match with Bognor Regis Town on Saturday 19th away to Cheshunt on Easter Monday and end at home to Canvey Island Neither side can reach the playoffs but there are three key matches on Saturday which could narrow down the options for promotion with Chatham hosting Chichester Carshalton Athletic vs Horsham and Hashtag United v Cray Valley means with three games remaining names could start to tumble out of the race and could mean the winners tomorrow can either cement a top 10 finish or enough of the nine points remaining to go higher bars – Also Crystal Palace v Man City and Arsenal v Brentford matches shown live THE PRE-MATCH THOUGHTS OF TIM O’SHEA The Wands penultimate home game of the 2024-25 season sees the Wands face Wingate & Finchley this afternoon for the fourth time this season Here Tim O’Shea looks back to last Saturday outstanding 2-0 win at Billericay Town and the challenge for today        Let’s start by looking back to the excellent win at Billericay Town last Saturday Not many would have had that result down on their bingo cards but you must have believed it was possible and it was a classic away performance myself and all the management team have always believed in these boys The biggest factor has always been do those boys believe in themselves I can’t tell you how disappointed they were after the Dover game With the result rather than the performance which we couldn’t knock too much It was now mathematically not possible to reach the playoffs but for them to pick themselves up and come to perhaps the wannabe champions and put in a performance like that spoke volumes We put a bit of work in on the Thursday at training and they have come here and that belief which I beiieve in but do the dressing room   When we arrived at 1.15 pm I could tell in the changing room that we were not going to get beaten  A special mention to Quade Taylor who came into the midfield for the match and was outstanding against a strong physical side as were the whole team I don’t think Billiercay had a shot on target in the whole game  There were a few raised eyebrows before the game even the Chairman thought we were playing three at the back Billericay have a real physicality about them at times They have a long throw so what Quade gives us there is stability What they were playing and credit to Alfie George for looking at that we knew they would play like a box in there with two 10’s and two midfield players  so it made sense for us to have two players sitting there in front as we knew we would have enough pace and ability Once we broke them down we won the ball back So it was possibly one of the most complete performances I’ve seen in a long while  I know Shaun Rowley gets a lot of credit for his record of 18 clean sheets which I think makes him second in the league but you also have to give a great shout out to the boys in front Even at the end at 2-0 with a minute or so to go Tom has put his body on the line and got a great block in They have been outstanding those two and Remi deserves a mention as he is underrated he goes about his business and does it so efficiently and a really good player  It wasn’t a game of many chances but when the chances came for Soul and Nyren they were both dispatched superbly especially Soul’s as it wasn’t an easy one to finish off in the first half we had a couple of situations especially for Soul but each time he got snuffed out couldn’t get his feet right or Matt Johnson did well to get back and stop him doing what he did for the goal I’m not being funny he still had loads to do when he went through There wasn’t much room there so for him to tuck it away like he did was thoroughly deserved and for the shift he put in  Looking ahead to today and the fourth meeting of the season with Wingate & Finchley Another team perhaps a bit like us that goes under the radar but they are always strong  It will be a similar game to as it was at their place in January To be fair they do try to overload down the flanks and show great rotation and movement I think when we lost to them they then went on an amazing run They do play some great football and should be a decent game  I said to the boys after the game on Saturday don’t let the season just fade away we are one of the best teams in this league and the second half of the season just proves it  ——————————————————————————————- DIRECTIONS FOR NEWCOMERS TO FLAMINGO PARK – IMPORTANT TRAIN TRAVEL INFORMATION Cray Wanderers FC – Flamingo Park Sports & Leisure – Sidcup By-Pass Finchley vs Cray Wanderers – Isthmian Premier – Tuesday 28th January Cray Wanderers play the last January fixture this evening as Neil Smith’s side head to Wingate & Finchley in a fixture originally postponed on 4th January Kick off 7.45 pm and at this stage there is no pitch inspection planned for the Maurice Rebak Stadium but should this change this post will be updated The Wands will be looking to bounce back quickly after the 0-2 defeat at Whitehawk on Saturday in what was the first loss of 2025 and ended a run of four straight wins It was certainly a game of fine margins against a similar in form team and 2-0 doesn’t really reflect the balance of the match with both goals on the counter attack when Cray were pressing Cray again were pretty solid and didn’t give away too many chances but overall it was a game where perhaps there was a fair bit of cancelling each other out Hopefully there weren’t too many injury concerns from the trip to Whitehawk and perhaps one of the positives was the return of Charlie Edwards for the last ten minutes as substitute and also with a new signing Dario De Luca making a late cameo appearance and another appearance off the bench for Ollie Rawlins Wingate & Finchley are no strangers to the Wands this season as the sides met in the 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup which seems like a lifetime ago now The teams drew 1-1 at Flamingo Park on 14th September with David Ijaha’s header cancelled out by an Ogo Obi penalty resolute performance to win 1-0 at the Maurice Rebak Stadium with a David Smith goal This will be the first league game between the teams this season with the return game at Flamingo Park much later on 12th April Cray will be tested against a very strong and quick Wingate & Finchley side but have just hit an indifferent run of form and are without a win in eleven league games Certainly their game last Saturday at home to Hendon was one of the most dramatic of the day ending in a 3-3 draw Wingate led twice through goals from Carmillo Restrepo Ogo Obi and Andronicus Georgiou but Hendon equalised in the fourth minute of added time The point meant the Blues stand 15th in the table on 31 points and certainly were above Cray in the table earlier in the month Ahmet Rifat’s side though have won at both Dover Athletic and Dartford and are a club that exceeded expectations by reaching the playoffs last season when usually tipped to struggle so they are a very proud club that often defy the odds (a bit like the Wands) Certainly Obi needs to be watched as he has scored 20 goals in league and cups including a hat-trick in the 6-1 win at Hendon Cheshunt (0-1) and Dartford (1-2)  Away form has seen wins at Canvey Island (3-2) The teams have met many times in various competitions over the years and Cray faced the former Wingate club during the 1950’s in the London League Senior Cray achieved a rare league double over the Blues last season winning 3-1 at the Maurice Rebak Stadium with goals from Gary Lockyer Frankie Raymond and Anthony Cook in November 2023 and a 1-0 win at Hayes Lane in January 2024 with a spectacular Lockyer overhead kick but traditionally it is always a hard fought game Any morning-early afternoon rain is expected to clear across the capital from 3.30 pm so hopefully will be a dry evening for the Cray Massive fans travelling to North London this evening At such a sensitive time with the 80th Anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp towards the end of World War II we send our thoughts and remembrance to those that lost their lives and those thankfully freed from such a terrible atrocity to go on to freedom The character of the lads was once again highlighted as our Young Whites came from a goal down to beat the Canaries with goals from Tom Wingate and Ruban Khan earning us a comeback victory Ali Melloul made four changes from last Friday’s FA Youth Cup defeat to Arsenal with new signing Seth Chingwaro handed his debut Chingwaro almost opened his Fulham account after just four minutes but failed to keep his shot down when meeting a Luca Picotto cutback on the edge of the box That chance arrived just seconds after Wingate forced a reactions save from Jack Ruddy after our striker had pinned a defender and rifled an effort towards goal Dino Kaiser stood tall at his near post as Finlay Corke drilled a shot at goal but there was nothing he could do when Toby Chilvers’ looping header at the back post dropped into the back of the net to give the Canaries the lead Khan was playing in a more advanced role to usual who had plenty of time to pick his spot after being played in by Khan Wingate’s goal did come when he converted Picotto’s fizzed cross It was a great turn of pace by the left-back who cruised past his opponent before putting the ball on a plate for Wingate in the box the barest of margins denied Macaulay Zepa giving us the lead deep into the first-half as his right-footed strike whistled over the bar a tight offside call was all that stopped Wingate from bagging a brace as he showed poacher’s instinct to get on the end of a Logan Cooke nod down from a free-kick before he kept out Khan while still lying on the surface following his initial save an ambitious La’Sean Sealey strike was comfortably dealt with by Kaiser Wingate timed his run to perfection as Zepa put another teasing cross in towards the six yard box but the striker missed the target from six yards the winning goal finally came in the 69th minute as Wingate turned provider with the midfielder finishing calmly into the corner The visitors had an equalising goal chalked off due to a foul in the build-up Melloul’s side were convincing as we saw out the game Our Under-18s are next in action on Wednesday 12th February as we travel to Derby County in the Premier League Cup Quarter-Finals Headteacher Marie-Louise Binks discusses the role of RRSA and Poverty Proofing in supporting equity at Wingate Primary School ensuring that the school is an inclusive and accessible hub for children and their families Poverty Proofing© the School Day is a tool created by Children North East which schools can use to identify the barriers children living in poverty face to engaging fully with school life and its opportunities Focused on listening to the voices and experiences of young people it offers a pathway for schools to address often unseen inequalities within their activities break the link between educational attainment and financial background and supports schools to explore the most effective way to spend Pupil Premium funding Poverty Proofing is part of what we do alongside thinking about children’s rights We consider everything in relation to the CRC and from the point of view of Poverty Proofing a new after school club or thinking about resources in school we consider costs and impact on engagement Everyone in school from the pupils and lunchtime staff to the business manager consider poverty proofing when making decisions Children and staff use their understanding of rights to support thinking about equity and justice children understand that it is fairer that we provide water bottles and pencil cases for all pupils removing any pressure on them to have the latest fashions or expensive designer items Children’s rights and equity are embedded in our ethos and values and we discuss it as a standing item for staff meetings and inductions All staff understand the importance of equity and choose their words carefully ‘What did you get up to at the weekend?’  or ‘What did you get for Christmas?’   It isn’t that we aren’t interested it’s that we don’t want to stigmatise or encourage children to compare themselves we agreed that asking a child who doesn’t have a PE kit to wear someone else’s kit that probably hasn’t been washed and has been sitting in a box we provide PE bags with clean kit to the children that need it They know it is theirs and they can always wear clean PE kit Delivering enriching experiences with a lower costs attached We have also introduced a flat rate of ÂŁ5 for all school trips so families can plan and budget We aim to bring professionals and services into school to deliver experiences linked to the curriculum wherever possible ensuring children still have access to experiences but so that everyone can be involved artists and the local pantomime to come in every year We also changed the way we celebrate charity days We realised that even though we had stopped asking for money for days like Children in Need when we were asking children to come into school in pyjamas many families had been out and bought brand new clothes So now Christmas Jumper Day has become Christmas Sock Day where each child decorates socks in school but children understand and now make requests for inclusive activities we still have raffles but every child in school gets a free ticket They can then buy more if they wish but it is important that every child feels included and can enjoy the experience Any child can use them; if they forget their coat then they can still go straight out to play with one of the spares Families come here for support and we have learnt to be able to help them Poverty Proofing allows us to create a more inclusive environment where barriers to engagement for children and families are reduced while smaller issues and barriers have been removed we are increasingly trusted with bigger problems Poverty Proofing ties so closely into our child rights approach: our children know that rights are why we do it They understand that the government must provide them with their rights so it is our job to ensure everyone has access It is empowering for children to know that their voices are going to be heard has been involved with UNICEF UK’s Rights Respecting School Award since 2008 and has held the Gold Award since 2013 As a long-standing Rights Respecting School the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child is deeply embedded in the school’s culture and ethos and children’s rights feature across all aspects of school life 41.6% of children at the school are eligible for Free School Meals The UK times in the opening twenty minutes to win a thrilling encounter in front of 825 supporters at Bericote Powerhouse Princes Park Ahmet Rifat’s Blues were quick out of the blocks and were ahead within three minutes when Andronicos Georgiou sent a curling drive beyond David Aziaya after good work by Billy Cracknell and Rhamar Garrett-Douglas The Darts responded well initially and dominated the ball for the next quarter of an hour which ended with the Blues’ goalkeeper Charlie Grainger saving a Josh Hill header (14) the Dartford defence was found wanting when the visitors struck twice within three minutes to all but win the contest Ogochukwu Obi was the first to breach the Dartford back line before seeing his strike saved by David Aziaya the rebound fell to Georgiou who struck into an empty net (18) Benedict Frempah added a third from a corner after 21 minutes as the visitors put their hosts to the sword in what was a poor first-half for Ady Pennock’s side The Dartford boss responded by making a triple substitution at the break and Duane Ofori-Acheampong being replaced by Olly Box That would be followed by Tyler Christian-Law coming on for Denzelle Olopade late in the game (88) as the hosts set about trying to get back into the game The excellent and tireless Callum Jones forced Charlie Grainger into a save with his 52nd minute header before Olly Box reduced the deficit with a delightful finish just three minutes later (55) scored a second for the hosts with a good finish to open his account for his new team (66) before Jones received an elbow to the face while trying to bring his team level (70) who’d be rewarded for his efforts with the Man of The Match award later on changed his bloodied shirt and continued to cause problems for the Wingate & Finchley defence Dartford continued to push forward in search of the equaliser but the damage had already been done and the visitors managed to see out the game and secure the three points Duane Ofori-Acheampong.SUBSTITUTES: Jacob Marsden Match Photos Gallery by | Jan 29, 2025 | Match Day Reports Isthmian Premier – Tuesday 28th January – Match Report Cray Wanderers final game of January ended in a second straight defeat as a stoppage time goal from Ben Watt earned Wingate & Finchley three points on a damp evening in North London In truth this was a game that probably wouldn’t live too long in the memory as the wet and sometimes breezy conditions meant the match wasn’t ideal for a free flowing game but there was plenty of honest endeavour but in truth a draw would have been the fairer outcome Cray were looking to bounce back from the defeat at Whitehawk on Saturday and Neil Smith named an unchanged side from the trip to East Brighton Wingate & Finchley were in the playoff places during October-November but had gone eleven games without a win and themselves conceded an injury time goal at home to Hendon on Saturday to draw 3-3 There were four changes to that side with Jaiden Drakes-Thomas Andronicos Georgiou and Ogo Obi coming in for Ryan Lowe Ex-Wand centre-half in the later Ian Jenkins days Ben Frempah is a Wingate & FInchley regular Wands fans travelled to the Maurice Rebak Stadium following confirmation the game was definitely going to be on as was still raining back in South East London and Kent However there was no pitch inspection planned so the Wands final away game of the season on grass took place The game began with Cray perhaps struggling to get a foothold in the game and Wingate & Finchley were the better side for the first 15/20 minutes but aside from a couple of corners and free kicks and a cross from the left byline from Camillo Restrepo claimed at the near post by Shaun Rowley chances were few to non-existent There was a real heart in mouth moment though for Cray in the 9th minute when Tom Bonner was booked for a full bloodied tackle close to the left touchline but common sense from referee Lawrence Torz-Brown considering the conditions meant just a yellow card for the Wands skipper Both teams from here had a bit of trouble keeping the ball flowing more than two or three passes and a couple of Frankie Raymond free kicks out on the right floated into the box were claimed by Matteo Salmon after the wind dropped the crosses into his hands In the 25th minute Cray had the first shot on goal when Darion Dowrich who had another impressive game down the left cut inside and saw his low shot through the muddy goalmouth claimed comfortably by Salmon For Wingate & Finchley Georgiou saw a shot deflected through to Rowley The game began to get a bit warmed up after the half hour and a couple of clattering challenges with Restrepo booked for the home side Cray came closest in the first half when Josh Williams down the left saw his cross-shot pawed round the right post by Salmon although possibly the shot was going wide Then two minutes later a corner for Wingate & Finchley saw Restrepo flash a shot wide of the right post but half time had come as something of a relief for players and fans alike The second half saw the temperature seem to drop more but at least it was rain free Once again the teams struggled somewhat to get their passing games usually a strength together and the match continued on it’s patternless way Cray had some positive possession around the hour mark and had introduced the pace of Dario De-Luca and Ollie Rawlins up front in a bid to win the game but the home side defended well and Salmon didn’t have too much to do aside from crosses and clearances by foot The Wands were defending well too with the best opening for Wingate & Finchley a half chance with Watt seeing a wind assisted shot go over the bar on the hour Ten minutes later Wingate came closest yet when Restrepo saw his shot pushed round the right post by Rowley before the Wands freshened things up again when Charlie Edwards and Lateef Adaja brought on The game in truth deserved to be 0-0 and looked to be heading that way after Blues substitute Zack Newton fired a shot wide Cray had defended superbly themselves and was almost like the Dixon Adams and Winterburn quartet with the success of the offside trap which worked to perfection four times in the second half and in the last minute Rhamar Garrett-Douglas had the ball in the net but was flagged offside Wingate & Finchley had the final say when from a free kick down the left taken quickly to Garrett-Douglas his cross was turned in by Watt from close range to give the Blues the lead in the first minute of added time Cray now had to take the game to Wingate & Finchley but never quite had the sharpness and perhaps the two games in four days on heavy pitches was taking its toll on the team In the end Wingate & Finchley won the game to end their poor spell and on to 35 points in 13th place while Cray there wasn’t too much damage done lying 11th on 38 points Cray now head to more synthetic times with four games in February with three at home starting on Saturday against a Bognor Regis side more competitive in recent matches but after a sapping three games away from home a return to Flamingo Park and the true playing surface will lead to a better game of football Once again and this has been relayed by Neil Smith and management a huge thank you to the supporters who over the three away games have been present in good numbers especially for a soggy Tuesday night and in great voice and shows there is a bond and connection between management We go again Saturday and there should be a good turnout for the first ever visit of Bognor Regis Town supporters Tom Wingate and Farhaan Ali Wahid scored a brace each as Ali Melloul’s side set up a home tie against either Arsenal or QPR in the next round Just three days after returning from the REWE Junior Cup in Germany our Young Whites may have been forgiven for a sluggish start but Wingate quickly stung the palms of Dylan Shanahan with a powerful strike from outside the box full of confidence after winning the top scorer award in Göttingen broke the deadlock as he raced through on goal and calmly slotted the ball past Shanahan our advantage was immediately snatched away as Santino Ohanaka equalised applying the finishing touch on a smart set-piece routine Wingate made it seven goals in his last five matches on the stroke of half-time meeting a pinpoint Seth Ridgeon pass and lofting the ball over Shanahan with an audacious lob that landed in the bottom corner On the hunt to increase our advantage after the break Ali Wahid danced inside onto his right foot and dragged a shot narrowly wide of the near post The winger made a similar run in the 65th minute but this time he added the finishing touch Wingate wanted his second hat-trick of this FA Youth Cup campaign spotting Shanahan off his line and attempting a shot from the halfway line Ali Wahid had the final say in the contest beating the Exeter goalkeeper with another powerful strike as our Young Whites safely secured their passage to the Fifth Round Melloul’s side are next in action on Saturday 25th January against Southampton by | Jan 4, 2025 | Front Page A note for all Cray Wanderers supporters that this afternoon’s Isthmian Premier League game at Wingate & Finchley has been postponed This is due to a frozen pitch at the Maurice Rebak Stadium and following a pitch inspection A new date for this fixture will be announced in due course Posted by | Jan 19, 2025 | , | 0 Five years ago Isabelle Wingate couldn’t ride a pushbike Now she’s a champion motorcycle racer notching up speeds of over 100mph
and she’s only just 13 This amazing teenager from Meltham has shown incredible determination with a couple of crashes not putting her off from her dream to ultimately race at a professional world level And she’s already giving it her all with wonderful support from parents Dean and Kelly Dean has raced motorbikes for around 20 years and was such an inspiration that Isabelle decided to take up motorcycling herself Since 2021 she’s raced both off road in supermoto events and also on tarmac Isabelle has been startlingly successful already and her triumphs include being 2023 Scottish ACU supermoto academy champion 2023 Scottish supermoto best junior newcomer 5th overall in the National Academy Supermoto Championship winner of the 2023 John Blakeman memorial trophy 2023 Norasport most improved junior rider award youngest ever triple race winner at Olivers Mount in Scarborough and junior class winner of the 2023 Crowther Deardon Memorial Hillclimb which was also held in Scarborough Up to now Isabelle has been racing various bikes but this coming season which starts in March she’ll be on board a 400cc Kawasaki Ninja which weighs 26 stones and goes up to 120mph Isabelle now trains three or four times a week at AVL Fitness gym in Slaithwaite to improve her body strength so she can deal with the power she needs to throw such a heavy bike around the race track She’s up around 6am to be at the gym by 7am In 2025 Isabelle will be competing in the Bemsee Team Green Junior Cup on board the Kawasaki with highlights shown on YouTube She’ll also be competing in the FAB-racing championship on board a Metrakit 70cc which will be streamed live on YouTube competing against men and women in what is a mixed sport right through to the elite top international level Isabelle Wingate promotional image made by Ben Lawson “My ambition is to race professionally and prove that women can do exceptionally well in such a male-dominated sport,” Isabelle said “There are still very few girls competing in motorbike racing When I was racing in the supermoto there were seven girls out of around 400 racers “When I’m out on the track I’ve no time to think about the speeds I’m doing I’m just totally concentrating on controlling the bike Isabelle said she was bullied about her love of racing but that’s simply spurred her on to do well in the sport “In a weird way I want to thank the bullies,” she said “What they were trying to do has had the exact opposite effect.” Isabelle’s racing has become a massive family commitment with Isabelle Dean and Kelly travelling around the country racing just about every weekend between March and September They also go to Spain regularly over winter for several days at a time to train at racetracks there The two they mainly use are within an hour of Alicante on the Costa Blanca With such a massive racing commitment Isabelle attends an online school the London-based King’s InterHigh which does a full curriculum online so she’ll ultimately be taking her GCSEs The school runs a timetable every day but if pupils miss lessons all are recorded so they can catch up later This means that when Isabelle is training in Spain she can spend her days partly on the track while also doing her lessons online Kelly said: “Isabelle is so committed to what she’s doing and totally dedicated to the sport It can be hard watching but I think Dean finds it scarier than me to see her on the track as he knows what can happen.” Isabelle Wingate on her Kawasaki Ninja 400 Isabelle had a major crash after colliding with another competitor while racing in Kent last year which left her in hospital for three days She was in a neck and back brace as a precaution and had suffered concussion and internal injuries said: “It’s certainly not put me off racing at all After another crash I got off my crutches the day before my next race.” When she was taken to hospital after the Kent accident medics had to cut off all her racing leathers so they all needed replacing This is why Isabelle needs sponsorship and the Three Fiends Brewhouse in Meltham sponsored her tyres last season This coming season she’ll be sponsored by Tripz UK motorhome hire in Denby Dale and Hanson Plywood in Halifax but more sponsors are needed as costs to race are high – up to ÂŁ480 in race fees per weekend and fuel and oil filters alone cost around ÂŁ1,500 a year Isabelle’s been greatly inspired by her dad who owns Bradford-based flat roof company Alvadac Ltd Another great inspiration is Dewsbury-based deaf rugby player and TV gladiator Jodie Ounsley who has had amazing success on and off the field The 23-year-old is a former professional rugby union winger who became the first deaf female rugby player to play for a senior England side She’s also a former British Brazilian jiu-jitsu champion who starred as Fury in the 2024 BBC One reboot of Gladiators Other inspirations for Isabelle include 20-year-old UK female motorcycle racer Scarlett Robinson 21-year-old Jamie Hanks-Elliott who is competing in the World Women’s Circuit Racing Championship 2025 and Spanish motorcycle ace Marc Marquez who has won several world titles Anyone who wants to
