De Bruyne scores as City scrape past Wolves Kevin de Bruyne’s goal was enough for Manchester City to edge past Wolverhampton Wanderers and move up to third in the Premier League The Belgian midfielder finished Jeremy Doku’s cut back in his penultimate match at the Etihad Stadium before leaving this summer when his contract expires hitting the post twice and having one cleared off the line but also arguably got away with a red card decision as Rayan Ait Nouri went in high on Bernardo Silva The Blues are in a good position with three league games to go and are now just three points behind second place Arsenal Here are three things we learned from City’s win over Wolves: This was City’s worst performance in the last few weeks and it was evident that some of their frailties still exist Plenty of players who have been fantastic over the past few weeks weren’t quite on it and were giving the ball away cheaply a lot - namely Nico O’Reilly and struggled to create more than the chance De Bruyne was able to tuck away and can count themselves unfortunate to not have left the Etihad with three points for the time since 2019 But at this stage of the season from City’s perspective Earlier this season they’d have found a way to draw or lose this game - as it was, they dug deep, held on and now you’d say they’re more likely to finish second than outside the UEFA Champions League places It’s easy to say that City wouldn’t have won yesterday without Doku and it was his skill and trickery that allowed him to beat Matt Doherty and he picked out exactly the right ball to De Bruyne on the edge of the box The Belgian winger should’ve got another assist too but his cross from the left hand side would hit the first man or he’d make the wrong decision offering little else other than the ability to pick the ball up and dribble past the right back nor does he get into the box and score goals at the back post like Raheem Sterling used to Doku has impressed against Everton and Aston Villa off the bench recently and I have always been a fan of his trickery and energy as I think it’s much more effective against tired legs I think City’s attack looks blunter and much more predictable whenever Doku starts and for the rest of the season at least I’d only use him from the bench it’s great that Erling Haaland has recovered quicker than expected from injury The 24-year-old striker went off injured against Bournemouth five weeks ago this Sunday but made the bench against Wolves despite Pep Guardiola saying he probably wouldn’t be fit Haaland didn’t come on but warmed up in front of a warm reception, and with the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace in two weeks time the aim will be to get the Norwegian fit enough to start that game Nathan Judah and Liam Keen bring you the latest Wolves poddy in association with the University of Wolverhampton at The Halls The boys are back in their first of two podcasts this week discussing all the events over the weekend including Nathan's haunting Crewe experience There's a look back at the defeat at Manchester City what could have been done differently and the appreciation cheers that followed the final whistle Marshall Munetsi and Rayan Ait-Nouri come under the microscope and there's the return of Keen or Not Keen There were hundreds of children in Wolverhampton and Walsall living in short-term housing last year Watch more of our videos on ShotsTV.comand on Freeview 262 or Freely 565 Homelessness charity Shelter called on the Government to unlock "urgent investment" in the upcoming spending review to tackle the national housing crisis It comes as separate analysis from the charity found 206,000 children in England could be living in temporary housing by 2029 – a 26% increase on current figures Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government figures show 606 homeless children in Wolverhampton were living in temporary accommodation as of December The data also showed 207 homeless children in Walsall were living in temporary accommodation as of December which was slightly down from 216 the previous year 81,060 households with 165,510 dependent children were living in temporary accommodation at the end of last year – both the highest figures since records began in 2019 The number of families living in temporary homes was only up 0.7% from September but showed a 13.7% increase from December 2023 Living in temporary accommodation means being provided short-term housing by a local authority director of campaigns and policy at Shelter said the housing crisis "has reached critical levels" She added homelessness will continue to soar and local authorities will risk bankruptcy if no significant investment is unlocked She said: "In the absence of enough social homes people are being funnelled into and trapped in temporary accommodation for years on end while billions are spent on sticking plaster solutions "Families are stuffed into unsuitable spaces living on top of each other and out of suitcases never knowing if and when they’ll be forced to uproot their lives." She urged the Government to commit to the "ambitious investment" of building 90,000 social homes a year for a decade in next month's spending review deputy chief executive of campaign group Generation Rent said: "Behind every statistic are thousands of stories of people facing some of the most stressful traumatic and insecure times of their lives "More and more children are spending their formative years trapped living in temporary accommodation often in overcrowded and unsafe conditions and at huge cost to local authorities "This is a national scandal that demands government action." He welcomed the national house building plan but called on the Government to address soaring rent prices and unlock Local Housing Allowance for those on lower incomes An MHCLG spokesperson said: "Through our Plan for Change we’re taking urgent action to fix the broken system we inherited investing nearly £1 billion in homelessness services this year to help families trapped in temporary accommodation we are developing a long-term strategy to tackle homelessness driving up housing standards and delivering the biggest boost in social and affordable homes in a generation." Wolverhampton A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said they were concerned for her welfare and if you know where she is a significant day for fans to celebrate the sci-fi franchise Originating from the pun "May the Fourth be with you", it began in 1977 and has since been embraced by Disney and by Lucasfilm the production company founded by Star Wars creator George Lucas While the day is celebrated by fans of all stripes some Star Wars enthusiasts once took their fandom a step further – by identifying as Jedi Knights on the national census the movement took off as both a cultural in-joke and a tongue-in-cheek nod to the spiritual weight fans saw in the Jedi philosophy What started as a grassroots internet campaign soon turned into a surprisingly widespread response across the UK A forceful 390,100 people in England and Wales wrote in "Jedi" as their religion in the 2001 census but this more than halved to 176,600 in the 2011 survey The most recent census for 2021 showed less than 1,600 people said they were Jedi Knights across the two nations – wiping out the Jedi Order Due to the dramatic decline and the cohort not meeting the minimum threshold, the Office for National Statistics did not publish figures for Jedi Knights in the latest survey The group is instead lumped into the "No Religion: no religion" subcategory alongside people who claimed "Heavy Metal" was their religion At a local level, 2011 Census data showed 524 people in Wolverhampton wrote in Jedi as their religion Imitating the most optimistic national scenario – where 1,599 people identified as a Jedi – it would mean the estimated number of Jedi Knights in the area fell to just five people in 2021 While the trend of identifying as a Jedi began in the 2001 Census as a joke for many there are others who believe in the philosophy even sought charitable status in the UK in 2015 the Charity Commission ruled it did not meet the criteria under UK charity law The commission said in its report that Jediism lacked the "necessary spiritual or non-secular element" Despite the census figures turning to the Dark Side the Star Wars franchise is still expanding The second season of Andor on Disney+ – a critically acclaimed prequel to the movie Rogue One – has generated rave reviews since its release last month And Marvel’s eagerly awaited Star Wars comic book series will be released on May 7 and Han and show fans what happened after the Return of the Jedi With the franchise continuing to grow 48 years on from the first film there is a new hope the 2031 Census will see the return of GUARDIOLA PRESS CONFERENCE REACTION | Man City vs Brentford Manchester City achieved a narrow 1-0 victory against Wolves on Friday night in an important clash under the lights in the fight for UEFA Champions League football Chances were few and far between for both sides with only three shots on target registered between them across the 90 minutes Manchester City struggled to create anything of any real substance with Wolves’ back-five resolute and closing the door gaining confidence and building ahead of steam crafting two huge chances in quick succession The first fell to Marshall Munetsi as Matheus Cunha spread a brilliant ball out wide to Jean-Ricner Bellegarde Bellegarde played the ball across the box to Munetsi but overhit and the Zimbabwe international was inches away from making it 0-1 with the goal agape a great effort by Ryan Ait-Nouri struck the woodwork and the Algerian saw his follow-up cleared off the line by Josko Gvardiol while the visitors would later rue those missed opportunities as 10 minutes before the interval Kevin De Bruyne played a clever one-two with Ilkay Gündoğan with the former switching the play out to Jérémy Doku City’s electric number 11 used his exceptional pace to skip past Matt Doherty and pull the ball back brilliantly to an onrushing De Bruyne City led 1-0 and there could not have been a more popular goalscorer inside the Etihad Stadium For the remainder of both the first half and the game as a whole both sides created very little in regard to clear-cut chances The closest either team came being a Matheus Nunes strike that clipped the post and City were content with managing the fixture and seeing out their one-goal advantage which they did successfully emerging 1-0 victors and securing a huge three points in the race for UEFA Champions League football next season Here are Five Things We Learned from yet another important victory for Manchester City as the ongoing Premier League season enters its final three matches In what was Kevin De Bruyne’s penultimate game in blue and white at the Etihad Stadium the Belgian produced yet another exemplary performance and was the difference maker on the scoreline as the midfielder has been on countless occasions over the course of the last decade Manchester City’s number 17 made it his mission to secure three points in their top-five hunt with the midfielder securing all the points thanks to a great finish from a solitary goal and making him just the second player to reach 250 goal contributions under Pep Guardiola his pressing and defensive work led as an outstanding example chasing every loose ball and covering every blade of grass in the engine room to secure the win Another man of the match performance in an important game in the run-in Upon the club’s decision to not extend Kevin De Bruyne’s contract past this season the question is where do Manchester City go from here with his pending exit leaving a seismic hole in the Blues’ team sheet seemingly impossible to fill If that was to be Kevin De Bruyne’s last Etihad Stadium goal then scoring the winner would certainly be a fitting farewell as we come to the realisation that after May 20 we may never see the iconic Belgian hit the back of the net at home after 10 years of dedicated service An outstanding player and a true servant to Manchester City Football Club Jeremy Doku has undoubtedly been one of the most exciting and dynamic players in the Premier League with an unrelenting willingness to take on his full back with electrifying pace and sheer dynamism heavily criticised for his lack of final product and was somewhat erratic in the final third as he struggled to find that killer finish or final pass Many believed his lack of output may limit Doku’s opportunities but in recent weeks he has improved exponentially not only did the winger provide the all-important assist but he was Manchester City’s biggest threat and it’s clear that in the remaining fixtures this season the number 11 is finding form at the right time With consecutive Premier League assists in the last two fixtures the Belgian is clearly developing and beginning to add numbers to his game under Pep Guardiola Doku could grow into a vital player for the Blues The Croatian has rightfully had his praises sung in recent weeks revolutionary since he moved into his natural position of left centre-back flourishing and reinstalling defensive stability for Pep Guardiola’s side His overall defensive presence may well have been the reason City got over the line on Friday making an invaluable clearance off the line from Ryan Ait-Nouri which could have changed the whole complexion of the game versatility to venture forward and commanding of the back four was top class and a huge reason as to why Manchester City got three points against Wolves and have taken a huge step towards Champions League qualification Josko Gvardiol seems to only be getting better in recent weeks promising signs for City with one of the most exciting young defenders on the planet on their books Although the Portuguese has struggled to influence games in recent weeks far from his usual magician-self – as our number 20 reaches a huge milestone of 400 games for the Blues – it seems an almost impossible achievement to ignore Despite the fact he was relatively anonymous for large parts on Friday and was another who covered every inch of the pitch for Manchester City and gave 110 per cent as he does every week Bernardo did however pop up when it mattered as his endless running and high press paid off allowing himself to win the ball back in the move that led to the goal 400 appearances and perhaps another Manchester City legend who has played his penultimate game at the Etihad Stadium Bernardo Silva – he may have had a poor season but do not let that overshadow just how incredible a player he has been as it was a rather cagey and anxious affair with both sides struggling to create any big chances Manchester City may have been fortunate to emerge with all three points considering the two huge chances missed by the visitors it’s not about performance but more simply getting points on the board That was a huge point in the Champions League race as the Sky Blues climb to third just three points behind second place Arsenal Regardless of how Pep Guardiola’s side played on the night A huge win which now puts the former four-in-a-row Premier League champions in pole position to secure UEFA Champions League football Forward admits “dream come true” in completing A city centre club has had its licence suspended after it was caught selling alcohol after hours City of Wolverhampton Council has suspended the licence of De Fusion Bar and Restaurant in Exchange Street, Wolverhampton for two weeks after the venue had been found to have breached several conditions of its licence – including serving alcohol after hours The licensing hearing on April 30 heard how officers had inspected the venue ahead of Wolverhampton Wanderers home game against Arsenal on January 25 to find the venue had not used door staff ahead of the 3pm kick-off and was serving pints in glass rather than plastic glasses – breaching both strict conditions of the licence there were no incident logs and “insufficient” records on maintenance checks and fire risk assessments and the venue did not have drug safety notices nor could it provide CCTV within 24 hours Bar owner Ikenna Orajaka told the hearing the venue had been struggling to attract customers for months and could not afford to hire door staff He claimed the club had received no customers during an hour-long visit by the council to prove his point He said the venue would usually remain empty on Saturday afternoons but he would open the bar for just a single family on occasions “It is an error on our part but we did it just for him,” he told the hearing after Cllr Jill Wildman had told him “the rules applied to everyone.” The supply of the wrong CCTV to the council was a “genuine mistake” according to Mr Orajaka – footage that nevertheless still proved that drinks had been served after hours Mr Orajaka told the hearing: “Am I inexperienced The bar owner’s presentation “impressed” the committee Cllr Zee Russell who had earlier said the venue was one of the “worst cases” she had heard with Mr Orajaka telling councillors he had gone to great lengths to rectify the concerns raised during January’s inspection the committee ruled the breaches were of a “serious nature” to warrant a two-week suspension West Midlands Police had supported the licence review saying the results of the inspection had shown a “clear disregard” for the licence The force said it was also investigating two separate incidents at De Fusion which added “further concern of the management of the premises.” Those concerns were presented during a private session of the hearing on April 30 due to the ongoing police investigation The venue’s closing time remained at 3am – with drinks allowed to be served until 2.30am – after Mr Orajaka pleaded for the committee to reconsider moving the club’s closing time to 1am saying the restriction would put him out of business The hearing heard how following the inspection on January 25 the council had emailed Mr Orajaka as the licence holder after he requested a follow-up visit saying the requirements for the list of breaches found during the inspection were ‘mostly in place’ and could be resolved by his attendance The subsequent visit found several breaches that had not been rectified and CCTV footage viewed by officers found the bar was serving after its 2.30am cut-off The council asked for CCTV footage of the venue closing in the previous week but the request for the 2.30am to 3am footage was ignored and instead CCTV was provided for two different days in the month that showed the club between 2pm and 3pm when it was closed The council said this was a “serious concern” and requested the correct footage which showed the club still open and serving drinks after 2.30am It's set to be two nights of popular hits and stories from the past as one of the country's most successful songwriters takes to the stage in Wolverhampton Gary Barlow will be appearing at the Civic Hall in Wolverhampton tonight (May 2) and Saturday as part of his Songbook Tour The tour will see the wordsmith behind hits such as "Back for Good" "A Million Love Songs" and "Forever Love" perform those hits and many more in what is being touted as a huge celebration of his four-decade-spanning career both as a member of Take That and as a solo artist He'll also talk about the stories behind the hits and give his fans more insight into how he wrote the songs he had A statement about the tour said: "The Songbook Tour will celebrate Gary Barlow’s status as one of Britain’s most successful songwriters and record producers he has won eight BRIT Awards and sold more than 45 million records "The track is still ranked as one of the UK’s favourite-ever pop songs having reached No.1 on its release in March 1995 and remaining top of the charts for four consecutive weeks going on to become the band’s biggest-selling song of the 90’s." Wolves on 23 minutes Cunha’s pass sent Bellegarde scampering clear beyond City’s high line and into the space in behind but putting too much on his pass and the chance was gone Five minutes later and Wolves were equally stunned at not taking the lead and the Algerian struck the foot of Ederson’s post before his rebound was cleared off the line by Gvardiol Andre uncharacteristically gave the ball away in the middle of the pitch Doku got past Matt Doherty down the left and his pull back was met by De Bruyne who guided home the only goal The chances were less frequent after the interval When Cunha stood over the ball on the edge of the box with 56 minutes gone so he went himself towards the near post and watched his effort crash back off Ederson’s upright Marmoush curled over after Doku It isn’t often that Premier League teams stage collective “celebrations” following defeats But Wolverhampton Wanderers did just that at the Etihad Stadium As Manchester City claimed a 1-0 victory to halt Wolves’ winning run at six games Rayan Ait-Nouri applauded travelling supporters in the corner of the stadium and headed towards the tunnel in conversation with former Molineux team-mate Matheus Nunes The Algerian’s progress was halted by the shouts of Vitor Pereira’s coaching staff calling him back to join his current colleagues in a show of solidarity walked towards their supporters and raised their hands in the air three times to initiate three loud cheers from the stands Pereira then broke into a solo triple fist-pump of his own with the same result It was the same gesture they had made after each of the previous six games but this time it followed their first loss since late February It seemed simultaneously a little strange and completely sensible Pereira has transformed the mood at the club and restored the broken link between the team and their followers and he was not about to let a narrow defeat to the outgoing Premier League champions damage the momentum he had built “The meaning (of the gesture) was because we are proud of ourselves and for sure they must be proud of the work of the team and the players because we came here with the mentality to compete,” Pereira told his post-match media conference “We cannot control the result because in football it’s impossible to control the result We cannot lose our ambition or our mentality from the starting XI and the players from the bench (was good) and today I’m proud because I watched everything on the pitch.” Expected goals split opinion among supporters and readers but there is little doubt that the statistical model which rates the quality of chances a team creates usually gives a fair representation of the balance of a game when xG does not begin to tell the story of a match and Wolves’ surprisingly meagre tally of 0.44 last night was one such example There were spells when Pereira’s side caused City real problems and other spells where the champions of the last four seasons were so confident in possession that Wolves struggled to lay a glove on them They had a follow-up effort from Ait-Nouri cleared off the goalline by Josko Gvardiol And they carved City open in the early stages with a fabulous move only for Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Marshall Munetsi to misfire in the final seconds when the Zimbabwean looked odds-on for a tap-in with the right run from him and weight of pass from his team-mate It was a decent night’s work at a stadium where Wolves have now lost on nine of their last 10 visits “If I had asked before the game to put the posts out (wider) we would have scored at least two goals,” smiled Pereira I saw in my team the speed that I want to see and the mentality to compete in some moments we needed to defend because we faced a very strong team It was just that the result was not right.” It is not a gesture that Wolves are likely to repeat often Supporters would not respond well to such triumphalism if defeats come more regularly such feel-good sentiments do not take long to dissipate and there was no harm in thanking fans for their backing and reminding them of the newfound togetherness despite the currently unfamiliar feeling of disappointment Victory last night would have equalled a club record of seven successive wins in top-flight football that has stood since 1946 and featured a bona fide club legend in Stan Cullis — in his final season as player and captain Cullis went on to become Wolves’ most celebrated manager has a long way to go to live up to his greatest-ever predecessor And he was not about to let defeat spoil it "\/news\/mens\/michael-brown-manchester-city-v-wolves-mdl-reaction-63881859?__cf_chl_rt_tk=DHd.GNe.utDiETbufuiwQrOczFI3TfXBeG6PJRk6uQE-1746528605-1.0.1.1-Vh.tZLmGSEZy1BC6NbKTg4ambTFYbeMcB01hBnqmYXM" + window._cf_chl_opt.cOgUHash);cpo.onload = function() {history.replaceState(null Connecting decision makers to a dynamic network of information Bloomberg quickly and accurately delivers business and financial information After winning the final game of the season by a six-goal margin, the players were told the club decided not to file the paperwork for promotion because it would cost too much money. The silky 32-year-old is approaching the end of his career at Molineux, and in his penultinate match at Molineux against Brighton, a start should be on the cards. The former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA official exclusively told Football Insider that he found it “incredible” the left-back had avoided a red card for his foul in the Portuguese midfielder Having endured a miserable start to the season, the Sky Blues were looking to keep their unbeaten run going as the battle heats up for Champions League qualification Nottingham Forest’s 2-0 loss to Brentford was a huge boost for Pep Guardiola’s side, and they capitalised on the Tricky Trees dropping points by claiming three of their own against an in-form Wolves side However, whilst Kevin De Bruyne‘s clinical finish won City the match the main talking point afterwards was a rash challenge from Ait-Nouri on Silva Kevin De Bruyne strikes for Manchester City in his penultimate match at the Etihad! ⚡️ pic.twitter.com/PefJBewv9S — Sky Sports Premier League (@SkySportsPL) May 2, 2025 With 72 minutes gone and Vitor Pereira’s side looking for a way back into the game Ait-Nouri looked to dribble his way out of City’s midfield press Dancing past the exit-linked Matheus Nunes the Algerian defender lost control of the ball and attempted to roll it past Silva However, as Ait-Nouri knocked it past the former Monaco man his foot landed awkwardly on the midfielder’s ankle Silva crumpled to the ground in pain and replays showed the challenge was a forceful one Hackett had been outraged ahead of the game to see that Howard Webb had appointed Bankes to another important game after his involvement in sending off Evanilson against Man United and the referee appears to have compounded that error at the Etihad Should Rayan Ait-Nouri have seen red? 💬 pic.twitter.com/C3B9kgkmGw — Sky Sports Premier League (@SkySportsPL) May 2, 2025 Having reviewed the footage of the challenge ex-PGMOL chief Hackett told Football Insider exclusively Ait-Nouri was very fortunate to avoid a red card for the challenge that had “a degree of malice” saying: “I find it incredible that the Wolves number three [Ait-Nouri] has not received a red card for serious foul play “He rolls the foot on top of the ball and then lands with force onto the lower leg of the Manchester City player “To state that there is not sufficient force in the challenge from VAR is frankly incorrect This action by the Wolves number three [Ait-Nouri] fulfilled the law for serious foul play “The law states a tackle or challenge that endangers the safety of an opponent or uses excessive force or brutality must be sanctioned as serious foul play “Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front from the side or from behind using one or both legs with excessive force or endangers the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play “It fulfilled the requirement in terms of force This was a red card challenge which should be outlawed in the game “I wonder having sent a player off [Evanilson] the previous week in the Bournemouth vs Man United game, the same referee Peter Bankes, that decision was overturned. “What level of influence did this incident have on the lack of a red card? No excuse for me, red card, nailed on.” Getty ImagesWe asked for your views on Manchester City's Premier League match against Wolves Mu: At this stage of the season results is the main thing - get over the line and that's it But what a terrible performance -lacklustre and lethargic We were easy to play through but were fortunate that Wolves couldn't convert those chances into goals A lot of work needed in the summer that's for sure but still showing real issues in the defensive third Gene: Another win albeit saved by the woodwork and several saves by Ederson De Bruyne has been playing with a chip on his shoulder showing his ability to find holes for others and himself Defensively there's still too many sloppy mistakes Although the play has been better there's room for improvement Overall there were more scoring opportunities which need to be capitalised upon against the weaker teams Kieran: Not a bad performance but we need to better in front of goal in games like this Strand Larsen being out didn't help as him being there would have got us a draw probably Tim: It was a reasonable performance - we hit a post twice and if we'd taken our first-half chances there would have been a different outcome The big thing I did not like was the amount of space Doku was given on our right His assist for the goal made all the difference We went toe to toe with a fine team and showed we have both the spirit and ability to match them or beat them 2025 at 9:31am BSTErling Haaland is ready to return for the season run-in to boost Manchester City’s hopes of securing Champions League football and lifting the FA Cup The striker missed all of April after suffering an ankle injury in the 2-1 FA Cup win over Bournemouth on March 30 but was an unused substitute in Friday’s 1-0 Premier League victory over Wolves The 24-year-old was sent out to warm up in the second half of a tight contest as Pep Guardiola who on Thursday had said the game might come too soon for the Norway international James McAtee and Rico Lewis in a triple change to help City see out the game after Kevin De Bruyne gave his side a first-half lead Back in the squad 😁#ManCity pic.twitter.com/8Dc3ihZtXI — Manchester City (@ManCity) May 2, 2025 “Yeah, I thought about (bringing Haaland on) but decided for energy, in the last moments when Phil and Macca and Rico Lewis come on it was another rhythm in terms of pressing,” Guardiola said. “I think we miss a bit today the intensity up front with Gundo (Ilkay Gundogan), with Kevin (De Bruyne), the people up front were not as intense as normally we are. But it’s normal for the quality they have and the age they have. “I was thinking (about using Haaland) but it was just two training sessions with us and in that moment was a little bit (difficult) so I decided for the other type of players.” City remain locked in a tight battle for a top-five finish. They have one more league game, away to Southampton next weekend, before facing Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final on May 17. A home match against Bournemouth follows before a trip to Fulham on the final day. Wolves made City work for a victory that sent them up to third in the Premier League, having hit the post in either half through Rayan Ait-Nouri and Matheus Cunha. They kept pushing for an equaliser right up to the final whistle, with goalkeeper Jose Sa going up for a stoppage-time corner. Although the result ended a six-game winning run that had lifted Wolves into mid-table, Vitor Pereira said he was proud of the spirit shown by his side, and they were enthusiastically applauded by their travelling support after the final whistle. “We are proud of ourselves and for sure (the fans) must be proud of the work of the team,” Pereira said when asked about the reception they received. “The players came here with the mentality to compete. We cannot control the result because in football it is impossible to control the result but can control the attitude on the pitch. “We can lose the game but we cannot lose our identity, our spirit, our mentality and our commitment.” Wolves were without the in-form Jorgen Strand Larsen, who had scored six goals in his last six games, with the striker sitting out the contest with a groin injury. “It’s not serious, but we tried (on Friday) in the last training session to come to play but didn’t feel well,” Pereira added. “We had a conversation with the medical department and we decided not to take the risk.” Facebook pageTwitter feedRSS feed@2025 The Irish News Ltd Back in the squad 😁#ManCity pic.twitter.com/8Dc3ihZtXI — Manchester City (@ManCity) May 2, 2025 Please use Chrome browser for a more accessible video player OneFootball's home page Search Settings Sign In Sign InJoinConfirmed Match Officials: Manchester City vs Wolves (Premier League) | OneFootballCity Xtra Craig Pawson will take charge of Manchester City’s Premier League clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday evening Manchester City take on the first of their final four matches in the Premier League this weekend knowing that should they manage to retain their recent 100 per cent record in the division Pep Guardiola and his players are aiming to become the first side in Premier League history to win the division in four successive campaigns while an FA Cup final is also being looked forward to at the end of the domestic season The meeting with Wolves will be followed by visits to Fulham and Tottenham in successive matches before the final day of the campaign will see David Moyes’ West Ham side visit the Etihad Stadium City come into the meeting with Wolves with a fully-fit squad expected to be at the disposal of Pep Guardiola with Ederson avoiding any serious problems after injury last weekend whilst Phil Foden and Ruben Dias have overcome illness in the past week Ahead of Saturday evening’s clash between Manchester City and Wolves the Premier League have confirmed all the information surrounding the team of match officials to take charge of the contest at the Etihad Stadium Craig Pawson has been confirmed as the man in the middle for Wolves’ visit to the Etihad Stadium this weekend in what will be the 45-year-old’s 18th match of the ongoing Premier League season Pawson has so far issued a total of 75 yellow cards and awarding five penalty kicks this season with his last Manchester City match coming in November and the 6-1 win over Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium Manchester City have won 17 of the 26 fixtures drawing on four occasions and losing five fixtures Accompanying Craig Pawson on the field will be Marc Perry and Steve Meredith who have been appointed to the roles of assistant referees at the Etihad Stadium Overseeing matters from the Premier League’s VAR hub at Stockley Park will be Stuart Attwell in the role of VAR whilst Natalie Aspinall has been confirmed as the Assistant VAR for this weekend’s fixture Taking care of matters in the Etihad Stadium dugouts on Saturday evening will be Jarred Gillett Related NewsReport: Liverpool could strike a deal for £51m midfield powerhouse if head-turning offer is made Michael Owen verdict on Champions League qualifying race Leroy Sané given ultimatum at Bayern Munich to either sign his contract or leave “Worried” | Todibo fitness concerns continue for Potter PSG XI vs Arsenal: Confirmed team news, predicted lineup and Dembele injury latest for Champions League 4️⃣ things to look out for in the Champions League this week The Champions League returns with a bang this week as the finalists will be determined following some tense first leg action. Here is what to look out for...⚔️ Match of the...
