Rich said he was "launched" as the explosion hit and heard "a large bang". He said he could hear screams from inside one of the houses. He said: "I live at the one with a hole in it now. I was in the loft in the bed and was launched on the bed when it happened. "There was a large bang. I think from outside I heard it was a lot louder than what I probably thought it was, but then it was a rumble and then the shimmy (chimney) breast fell onto the roof, so I bolted at that point. "There's already a hole in the house and I could hear screams from inside next door. My mum was in her front room, so she was safe. "So I went outside and helped get the neighbours out, so my dad was already in their house getting them out, so I helped dad pull out the neighbours before anything, for any major injuries anyway. "As far as I'm aware, the two that are significantly damaged obviously know ours is structurally unsafe, so we can't go in. Neighbours on the two end houses can go and get stuff, but I think the likelihood is, well, definitely three are gonna be taken down, probably or five I think. A representative from a utilities company has confirmed that the main gas line was not the cause of a house explosion in Yate Emergency services were called to Lancaster Road in Yate just before 7am on Tuesday following an explosion that completely destroyed a house spread to a neighbouring property before it was finally put out Approximately 40 residents were evacuated from their homes and emergency services remained at the scene throughout the day Three individuals were hospitalised with serious injuries although they were not life-threatening or life-changing A fourth person sustained minor injuries and received treatment from paramedics on site While the exact cause of the explosion is yet to be confirmed a spokesperson for Wales and West Utilities stated that it was not connected to the gas mains Wales and West Utilities Emergency Service Manager for Bristol said: "We were called to reports of an explosion at a property in the Lancaster Road area of Yate in Bristol this morning (29 April) and immediately sent a team of engineers to attend." "After carrying out all our necessary tests "We will continue to support the ongoing investigation into the cause in whatever way we can." A representative for Avon Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that a comprehensive investigation would be conducted into the incident speaking to press members at Lancaster Road following the explosion stated that those involved in the blast were "very lucky" to have survived "Reports of an explosion - and it was an explosion in the building - there were two people in that property at the time so we think they were very lucky," Chris commented explaining what had happened and are now seeking further medical attention at the hospital." South Gloucestershire council announced on Tuesday afternoon that residents of all but five homes were permitted to return. The council expressed: "Along with our partner agencies, we would like to recognise the outstanding community response that has been shown in this area of Yate. "In particular, the neighbour who bravely entered the property where the explosion took place to rescue occupants and the manager of The Farmhouse Pub who generously opened up her premises as a refuge for those who had been displaced from their homes. "Our thoughts are of course with those residents who were taken to hospital and we wish them a speedy recovery. Council staff will be present in the Lancaster Road area tomorrow morning to offer support and advice to local people." Neighbours who rushed to help elderly residents caught in an explosion in Yate have described their worry and shock upon arriving at the scene Three people were taken to hospital following the incident at a house on Lancaster Road, just before 6.50am on Tuesday 29 April. Around 40 people were told to leave the area, with a refuge centre set up at a nearby pub. Emergency services say the casualties have suffered injuries not believed to be life-threatening. Wales and West Utilities has confirmed the incident was not related to the gas mains network and they will continue to support the investigation moving forward. Neighbour Rob Cainey was walking his dogs when the explosion happened. He rushed to the property, where he found people stuck inside. He told ITV News West Country: “I literally got [the dogs] out of the car, and there was a huge explosion. “I looked round to see the house next door had completely dismantled, so I quickly put the dogs back into the car and I rang 999.” Mr Cainey ran over to the house straight away and found one of the residents walking out. He said she had a cut on her leg and was covered in dust. According to Mr Cainey, the other resident - a man in his 80s - wouldn’t leave the house because he was worried about his dog. He said: “I went through the living room and said ‘you just need to leave’ and I said ‘I'll try and get the dog’. “So I ushered him out and then I went back in and I went round the corner in the kitchen and it was just like a bomb - there was this fire, all the roofs were down and I said ‘well, there's no way I can get anywhere further’.” When asked if he felt brave for his actions, Mr Cainey said: “I literally just didn't think about it. I've lived next door to them for 35 years. “They're friends and you've just got to do these things.” He added that he believes all five of the affected homes will likely be demolished and rebuilt, due to the extent of the damage. Another neighbour, Charlie Daines, said several people ran down the street to help after the explosion. She said when they arrived, an older couple were being helped from the house that exploded. She said people were trying to smash a window at a house next door, which caught alight, where a lady who was infirm needed help. She added that there were two people in the house on fire and one dropped the keys in the panic. “She got the door unlocked and two guys carried the lady with a bad back,” Ms Daines said. “She had obviously been in a bedroom where something had collapsed on her because she had cuts.” They managed to get the injured woman across the road onto the lawn, with three other injured people, where they helped wrap up the injured people. “It felt like it took forever for the fire brigade to come but it can’t have been more than a few minutes. We just sorted people out until the fire brigade and ambulance were there.” One of the people saved from a house explosion worried she had lost her dog in the incident. Charlie Daines added: “The lady whose house exploded, she was just saying, ‘my dog, my dog’, over and over again. “And she was saying, ‘that’s my house, that’s everything, that’s my home'. I just felt so sorry for them, because they were shaking so badly.” One man jumped into the back garden to see if he could find the pet, and Ms Daines said she believes the dog was found later, half a mile away. “I’m a pet owner myself, so I’m just glad the dog’s OK because they haven’t got anything left,” she said.
