“Headphones On” is an indisputable earworm and uniquely blends R&B and hyperpop with an addictive aesthetic of bright colors
sequins and sparkles reminiscent of the early 2000s “party girl aesthetic.”
As someone who has been (embarrassingly) chronically online since the ripe age of 12
Addison Rae’s influence on pop culture has always been apparent to me
one thing I never saw coming was her foray into pop music — not to mention how successful it has been
Even self-proclaimed skeptics of mainstream TikTokers like myself have found themselves surprisingly on board with Rae’s latest ventures
all four of her recent singles have helped carve out a unique identity for her as a young artist on the rise and
helped breathe fresh life into a monotonous landscape of pop music
Rae released her debut single “Obsessed” in 2021 to an audience that dismissed her attempt to make it in music as a shallow cash grab, especially at a time when several TikTok influencers were scrambling to make a permanent mark beyond the app
despite not even making it on the Billboard Hot 100
“Obsessed” promised potential for the TikTok star
While Rae’s shift from classic girl-next-door to avant-garde luxe might seem sudden to the public eye, her evolution has actually been in motion for quite some time. In 2023, almost a year and a half before the release of her hit single "Diet Pepsi," Rae wiped her social media slate clean — a bold move for someone who had racked up over 80 million followers on both platforms
Her next posts were shrouded in a kind of mystery that felt uncharacteristic for someone who had once shared every corner of her life online
She also started surrounding herself with artists who
But it was her now-iconic scream being featured on “Von dutch” by Charli XCX that cemented her rebrand
complicated and ready to dive back into the pop music industry with an unexpected splash
Rae’s singles since her rebrand — “Diet Pepsi,” “Aquamarine,” “High Fashion” and most recently “Headphones On” — are nostalgic
bubblegum-pop image of a young Britney Spears and the alluring weirdness of Arca and Charli XCX to make her unique mark on the pop industry
is how unapologetically she leans into both sides: One moment she’s cooing sweetly over a glossy synth beat
and the next she’s diving headfirst into glitchy chaos without a second thought
In an era where so many pop artists seem more focused on crafting 30-second hooks for TikTok virality
likely due to the offbeat influences she’s intentionally surrounded herself with
sequins and sparkles reminiscent of the early 2000s “party girl aesthetic.” It’s nonchalant but intentional
vulnerable lyrics such as “Wish my mom and dad could have been in love / Guess some things weren’t meant to last forever,” and “I compare my life to the new it girl / Jealousy’s a rip tide
it pulls me under,” Rae characterizes herself as someone who her listeners can relate to
despite her recent shift towards a mysterious musical persona
Rae’s foray into pop feels both unexpected and strangely natural — a chaotic
glittery extension of the persona she’s been quietly shaping for years
I’m excited to see if this rebrand is authentic to Rae’s true self or simply her going with the flow of recently popularized “brat summer” aesthetics
if you’re looking for a fresh take on pop music
put your “Headphones On” and give an old star a new listen

Edie Brickell & New Bohemians – What I Am
– After defeating Pickens Academy on the road in round two
the Addison Bulldogs were back home hosting Lynn in the Class 1A quarterfinals on Thursday
The Bulldogs dominated game one 12-1 and after falling behind early in game two
they rallied to defeat Lynn 11-6 and punch their ticket to the semifinals for the first time since 1995
Addison got off to a terrific start. After holding the Bears scoreless in the top of the first
scoring four runs in the bottom of the first. Jed Wilkins and Tucker Thompson led off the game with back-to-back singles. Stone Talley was hit by a pitch which loaded the bases with no one out. A fielder’s choice kept the bases loaded as Wilkins was forced out at home. Thompson scored on a wild pitch and Kiah Lake walked to reload the bases
Catcher Jaxson Williams singled scoring two runs to push the Bulldog lead to 3-0. Lake scored on a fielder’s choice and Addison led 4-0 after one inning
The score stayed the same until the bottom of the third when Addison plated one more run for a 5-0 lead. After a hit batter and two walks
Kaden Dyson hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Talley
Lynn answered back in the top of the fourth inning with a run of their own
The inning started off great for the Bears as they loaded the bases with no outs as Bryce Baughn and Coby Sherer singled and Ashton Hopkins walked. Bulldog pitcher Kiah Lake showed his mettle by only giving up one run
The Bulldogs iced the game in the bottom of the fourth as they scored seven runs to go up 12-1. Addison pulled off a rare event by scoring seven runs and getting only one hit in the inning. Dathan Cleghorn and Wilkins walked. Two wild pitches later had Cleghorn scoring. Thompson singled
moving Wilkins to third. Talley walked loading the bases. A passed ball scored Wilkins. Lane Stewart walked loading the bases. Lake walked bringing home another run. Another passed ball scores a run. Williams hit a sacrifice fly to center field bringing a run home. Dyson was hit by a pitch and advanced on a Bear error
bringing home a run. Carter Pratt hit a sacrifice fly to left field for the last run of the inning
Lake got the Bears down 1-2-3 in the fifth to end the game and pick up the pitching win
Addison: Lake got the complete game giving up one run on three hits
Talley didn’t have an official at bat but scored 3 runs with 3 walks and a stolen base. Williams went 1-2 with 3 RBIs
Lake didn’t have an official at bat but also had 3 walks
1 RBI and 2 runs scored. Dyson went 0-1 with 2 RBIs
Lynn had Baughn go for 1-2 with a run scored. Sherer went 1-1 with a walk. Hopkins went 1-1 with a walk
Addison scored first as the visiting team in the second game as Wilkins singled and advanced all the way to third base on an error and a passed ball. Wilkins scored on a Thompson fielder’s choice to give the Bulldogs a short lived 1-0 lead
The Bears struck back quickly as they scored 3 runs in the bottom of the first. Thompson was able to get two of the first three Bears out as Austin Dodd singled and stood at first with two outs. Caden Key was hit by a pitch and then Baughn singled home Dodd. Sherer singled in two runs to give the Bears a 3-1 lead
Addison struck right back in the top of the second
Dyson walked and advanced to third on a Bear error and a wild pitch. Carter Pratt singled bringing home Dyson to cut the Lynn lead to 3-2.
Lynn would stretch their lead to 6-2 as they scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning. After a Bulldog error
Dylan Dunagan singled and Key singled home Dodd. Dunagan scored on a fielder’s choice by Baughn. Key scored on another Bulldog error
but Addison was able to get out of the inning without giving up any other runs
The top of the fourth inning had Addison to continue to chip into the lead by adding another run to cut the lead down to 6-3. Carter Pratt hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Tanner Gaither
Addison tied the game up in the fifth with a huge inning. The momentum swung this inning as Addison scored three runs
two coming on a big Talley home run to right field. Dyson drove in the game tying run with a single
The Bulldogs sealed the game with a big sixth inning as they scored five runs. Again
Addison only had two hits as they scored five runs. After a Cleghorn single to left
Wilkins destroyed a ball to center field for a huge two run shot that ignited the crowd and the Bulldog dugout as Addison took the lead 8-6
Lynn didn’t help themselves as walks and errors hurt them in this inning. Addison plated three more runs while not getting any hits
Addison pitcher Thompson really struggled for the first three innings but fought and fought and was able to stone the Bears in the fourth
keeping the Bulldogs in the game and letting his offense take the lead. Young Mr
Thompson tired in the seventh and left with the bases full of Bears and one out. Bulldog Closer Talley came in and got an infield fly pop up and a ground ball to end the game and send Addison to the fourth round
a stolen base and a home run. Talley went 1-4
a walk and a home run. Williams went 1-3
a walk. Carter Pratt went 1-3 with 2 RBIs. Dyson went 1-3 with a run scored
Thompson got the Bulldog win while Talley got the save
Lynn had Key go 2-3 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored
Baughn went 2-4 with 2 RBIs and a run scored. Hopkins went 2-4. Sherer went 1-4 with 2 RBIs
“Feel good about where we are at as a team. These guys are bought in and they really love each other and support each other. There isn’t any jealousy about playing time or who has better stats
This is just a great bunch of guys. These guys know their individual talents and what their teammates do well and not so well. We are really seeing the ball well right now and scoring a ton of runs. If we continue to blister the ball like we are doing know we are going to be hard to beat.”
Fun fact: The last time Addison made it to the state semifinals in baseball was in 1995 and they were put out by Lynn in three games
Addison’s Head Coach Lee Williams was a key player on that Lynn team that beat the Bulldogs

The headlines of the past week tell the story
That’s All It Took to Sever America From the World.” “A Road Map of Trump’s Lawless Presidency
according to 35 Legal Scholars.” “American Values Are Threatened by the American President.” “Why Trump’s Economic Disruption Will Be Hard to Reverse.” “Bracing for a Slow-Moving
Self-Inflicted Economic Storm.” “Trump Is Laying a Potentially Deadly Trap for the U.S
Auto Industry.” “Deporting Americans?” “Trump Refuses to Fold a Losing Hand… Doubling down with a pair of deuces is not a winning strategy.” “The world — politely — tells Trump to take a hike.”
He’s running the country just like he ran his casinos — into an economic nosedive
says in a wrap of one of her recent columns
“it’s becoming increasingly easy to understand how he bankrupted all those casinos.” (In case you forgot
Trump’s history is laden with business failures — six bankruptcies
(It wasn’t until the unlikely success of the reality show “The Apprentice” that he found what he was good at… being a mean-spirited showman.)
Trump has been successful at scamming the Republican Party and his MAGA followers into believing he had a clue about anything other than selling a false narrative — and
he’s milked them out of tens of millions of campaign contributions
sold them commercial trinkets and near-worthless meme coins and will likely leave office with millions of ill-gotten gains by profiting off of the presidency
That such subterfuge has belittled the office of the presidency to a third-rate dictatorial government is of no concern to Trump or
And that Trump has remade the Republican Party in his image may be a more ominous omen than many imagined just 100 days ago
For another perspective on Trump’s first 100 days
dozens of recent charts shed more detail on the facts
• He’s issued more executive orders than any other modern president
which more than tripled his first-term orders
and outdid FDR who had issued just over 60 in 1937 and a tad over 100 in 1941
but then FDR was hugely successful in getting the nation out of the Great Depression and passing lasting legislation that created the New Deal while also forging the greatest peacetime international alliances the world has seen
• Trump’s also been sued more than any other president
That’s because Trump’s most controversial executive orders have been an abuse of power and have sparked lawsuits working their way through the courts
Trump has lost most of those weighed by judges
In the one case that made it to the Supreme Court
Trump took office with the headwinds of an economic juggernaut that led the world in growth and vibrancy
With inflation under control (just under 3%) by the time Trump took office
outrageous tariffs and a poorly conceive trade war sent the stock market down almost 20%
at one point and has settled around 8% down since Inauguration Day
It’s the worst stock market performance in this period of a presidency since Republican Gerald Ford in 1974 (and that’s unfair to Ford
only because he took over from the disgraced Republican President Richard Nixon who resigned
• Trump’s popularity has fallen faster than any recent president as well
he had the good will of 52% of the country; today
it’s 42% with a majority giving Trump a thumbs down on every issue except border security — and even there a majority of Americans don’t approve of how Trump is handling immigration
There’s far more information to glean from the various charts in the news (almost all about the decline of America’s economy or world status)
but let’s switch focus to the broader perspective
Just what does Trump’s first 100 days represent
Columnist Jamelle Bouie said it well when he noted that most presidents cast their first 100 days around what they can create
that set out to rekindle the nation’s manufacturing prowess in green energy
bridges and other state and local infrastructure — plus a lot more
has changed the country through the destruction of much of what has made America great
Trump has wreaked havoc throughout the federal government and destroyed our relationships abroad
but his main goal — the total subordination of American democracy to his will — remains unfulfilled
as he sabotages his administration with a ruinous trade war
deals with the stiff opposition of a large part of civil society and plummets in his standing with most Americans
And here’s Maureen Dowd reflecting on what has surprised her about Trump’s start to his second term: “I think the irony of Trump’s first 100 days is that he’s always presented himself as this brand expert
but he has taken the greatest brand in the history of the world
And he’s well on his way to destroying the brand of our dollar.”
for the country and Trump: “When people begin to realize that their Veterans Affairs office has been closed
or when DOGE is messing with Social Security and Medicare
which it’s going to do really fast — it’s cliché to say he’s like the Wizard of Oz
Toto is opening the curtain and you’re just seeing that this is a con man with a lame con.”
All of which reflects back on an aspect of the American voter — the desire to believe the snake-oil salesman
the handy-dandy gadget that does everything for you for only $49.95 (but hurry the deal ends at midnight)
or the candidate who boasts he’ll solve the Ukraine-Russian war on Day 1
the economy is going to be SO GREAT when he’s elected
and every American is going to be SO RICH because
It’s appalling so many Americans fell for the scam

2025 at 5:00 am CDTExpandAddison West Western Michigan's Addison West plays during an NCAA football game in September 2022 in Kalamazoo
The Cary native understands that the education he’s about to receive is a privilege
So what will he pursue with the Master of Business Administration he officially earned with his graduation April 24 from Western Michigan University
“That’s a good question,” West said with a laugh
“I haven’t really put too much thought into that.”
West’s immediate goal is to secure a pro football roster spot
After not being selected on the third and final day of the NFL Draft Saturday
signed with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted priority free agent
Draft experts pegged him to potentially be picked in the sixth or seventh round
the power suit will yield to football pads
Cary-Grove's Blake Skol (left) is congratulated on his touchdown by teammate Addison West during a playoff football game against Kaneland in November 2018 in Cary
“This really has been the goal and the dream since Day 1 – to make an NFL roster,” said West
who was named a Walter Camp Foundation First Team All-American after his final season at WMU and earned Mid-American Conference All-Academic honors for the third year in a row
He got his undergraduate degree two years ago in sports management with a minor in business
“I was just sitting on the couch all day and waiting, basically,” West said. “It was a very stressful day, but I’m happy. We got a good deal with a good organization with a good scheme [outside zone] that fits me well. ... Obviously you want to get drafted. There’s more money involved, you have a sense of security, but by going undrafted you get to pick the place you want to go to and the scheme that you want to go to.”
West said, according to Brennan, the Bears were one of 18 NFL teams that showed interest in him. A Bears fan growing up, West went on a pre-draft visit to Halas Hall.
“It was awesome,” West said. “Met everybody. Met the O-line coach (Dan Roushar). Met Coach [Ben] Johnson. Obviously they went in a different direction. They drafted two [offensive linemen], so it is what it is.”
West played right guard, left guard and center at Western Michigan, starting 36 straight games his final three seasons. He thinks he projects as a center for Miami.
Despite his college accolades, which included being ranked the best offensive guard in the nation by Pro Football Focus, and not allowing a sack in 2024, West was not considered a potential Day 1 or Day 2 draft pick because of his supposed lack of size and wingspan.
He is aware of his “shortcomings,” so to speak.
“I’ve been hearing that my whole life,” West said. “A couple [of evaluations] ticked me off. They were like, ‘Not athletic enough.’ That was before my pro day. And then my pro day I had really good numbers, so we can put that rumor to rest. ... NFL scouts were like, ‘What about your wingspan?’ I was like, ‘Watch my tape vs. Ohio State, vs. four draft picks. I think I did pretty well.’”
What West will bring to the Dolphins is nastiness and relentlessness, qualities he learned when he played for Cary-Grove, which won the 2018 Class 6A state title his senior year.
“My coaches at Cary-Grove did a great job of instilling in me that if you’re going to play this position [offensive line], you got to be the toughest, meanest son of a gun around,” West said. “I brought that [mentality] to college, finishing things through the whistle, after the whistle, being mean, nasty, relentless, on and off the field. I’m just trying to do everything I can to stick out, and I think it’s worked.”
West received more than 200 text messages and phone calls after signing with the Dolphins, “which was awesome,” he said. The Dolphins have rookie minicamp next week in Miami.
“Now, it’s play or get cut, honestly,” West said. “You got to bring the stuff every day to practice and work. This is your job now. It’s a big opportunity, and I definitely don’t take it for granted. I’m very grateful. I’m just trying to do what I can to make the team and provide for my family.”
For the business major, it’s all business going forward.

Exciting news for anyone who’s ever flat-ironed their side bangs or spent $40 on a pair of gold lamé leggings: Addison Rae dropped a video for her new song
“Headphones On.” 2008 has never been more back
The new video features Rae dancing around the Icelandic wilderness in a purple American Apparel–core hoodie
and wired earbuds as she sings a song of escapism: “Guess I gotta accept the pain / Need a cigarette to make me feel better / Every good thing comes my way / So I still get dolled up.”
The video features a lot of imagery I would have definitely reblogged during Obama’s first term: Rae pensively twirling a clear umbrella
lying on the ground with an iPhone tucked in her neon-green underwear
There’s lots of moody horseback riding (both on a real horse and on a coin-operated one outside a grocery store)
An irrefutable scholar of the Tumblr-girl aesthetic
she even forms her earbuds into a heart at one point
Rae sings about her insecurities as an on-the-rise pop star: “I compare my life to the new ‘It’ girl / Jealousy’s a riptide
Anyway, if it weren’t already clear we’re headed for a recession, Rae’s insistence on releasing Tumblr-ready music videos is as sure a sign as any

ExpandSycamore's Addison Dierschow delivers a pitch Friday
DeKALB – Addison Dierschow left a pitch up and away to Alaynna Johnson, allowing the DeKalb designated player to slug the ball for a three-run triple to stake DeKalb to a lead early in the third inning
The Sycamore starter retired 13 of the last 16 DeKalb batters, seven on strikeouts, as the Spartans came back for an 11-3 win in the rain-shortened rivalry game on Friday.
“It feels really good. We are all really close with that team and we know how good that team is this year,” Dierschow said. “We all came in fired up and ready to go to play them and have it be a good game.”
Rain started to fall lightly in the bottom of the fourth in which Dierschow still struck out the side.
It started to rain more steadily in the top of the fifth, in which the Spartans (18-2-1) scored three times to break the game open. Adi Armstrong and Ellison Hallahan had RBI doubles in the frame.
And by the bottom of the fifth it was raining hard, with Dierschow allowing just a walk. After the game became official after five full innings, the umpires called it due to the weather.
“She started to hit her spots better,” Sycamore coach Jill Carpenter said. “When your team gives you that three-run cushion and you feel like they’re going to continue to do that for you, it allows you to settle down as a pitcher.”
Dierschow got the first two DeKalb batters in the top of the first before Kennedy Latimer singled, then Izzy Aranda and Cassidy Cavazos drew back-to-back walks. That’s when Johnson hit her rocket just out of the reach of a diving Hallahan in left.
The triple gave the Barbs (9-10) a 3-1 lead heading into the second after the Spartans scored in the first. Addie McLaughlin started things off with a single, stole second and moved up an extra base on an error. Armstrong brought her home with a sacrifice fly to right.
“Our team is a really good offensive team, so I had full confidence in our lineup to be able to come back,” Dierschow said. “Even if things went bad, Bella Jacobs was warming up ready to go and I know she would have my back out there.”
The Spartans took the lead back in a five-run third. They had three hits in the inning - RBI singles by Ema Durst, Kait Williams and Brighton Snodgrass. The Spartans also benefited from five walks and two wild pitches, plus a pair of DeKalb errors helped an unearned run cross the plate as Sycamore took a 6-3 lead.
In the fourth, Durst launched a two-run home run to push the lead to 8-3. The Spartans have homered in 17 straight games. Carpenter said she was happy to see the team produce a big inning without a home run.
“We’re not always going to win it on a bomb,” Carpenter said. “We need to be able to string a few singles together, things like that and make sure walks still matter, and wild pitches and take advantage of those when we have them.”
In the fifth inning, Latimer was injured on a play trying to apply a tag to a runner at third. She hurt her knee and had to leave the game.
DeKalb coach Erica Swan said she was proud of how her team persevered and how strong the Barbs played through the first couple of innings.
“That kind of just took the wind out of our sails a little bit,” Swan said. “Just a couple things going the wrong way and struggled to come back after that. Overall, I think those first 2½, three innings I was really proud of the way we faced Sycamore.”
The Spartans had 11 hits in the game. McLaughlin, Durst and Kairi Lantz had two hits each. Durst drove in three while Armstrong and Kait Williams had two each.
Dierschow allowed four hits and three earned runs in five innings, walking three and striking out eight.
Carpenter said she was happy to see her team not get down after falling down early to a young DeKalb team she said is going to be very good.
“We’ve had to work from behind before and I don’t think there’s any sense of panic with this group,” Carpenter said. “We’ve proven we can come back when we go down. The offense just got it going, and when you do that it helps everybody settle down.”

She competed at the 2025 Southern Zone South Sectional Championships in February
placing 2nd in both the 50 breast (33.20) and the 100 breast (1:12.32)
Duke placed 11th out of 15 teams at the 2025 Women’s Atlantic Coast Championships, after finishing 5th out of 11 the previous year. Bitel has the potential to help strengthen Duke’s breaststroke group, as her 100 and 200 breaststroke times would have been the second-fastest on the team this season, behind junior Kaelyn Gridley
Gridley posted times of 58.14 and 2:05.71 this season
and placed 4th in the 200 breast (2:05.91) and 8th in the 100 breast (58.72) at the 2025 NCAA Division I Women’s Championship
Bitel can also contribute to Duke’s medley relay
with a 50 breast split that would have ranked second on the team as well
with a 1:01.72 in the 100 and a 2:14.46 in the 200

– Both Vinemont and Addison won tiebreaker games over Phil Campbell and Pickens Academy on the road last week and now they’ll both be back home to host round three
The Bulldogs will battle Lynn on Thursday and the Eagles will take on Winfield at Mike Cupp Field on Friday
On winning game three on the road in round two to advance
“I was super proud that our players accepted the challenge I gave them about not letting their season end this past weekend
This group is motivated and resilient,” Williams said
“The most enjoyable part about the way we played in game three was how much fun the kids were having and the understanding of what they needed to do to advance
They wanted to prove that game two wasn’t the way they play.”
On preparing for a familiar opponent in Lynn
“Well I am very familiar with Lynn because I was a coach on that staff for two years prior to coming to Addison
We’ve also played them three times already this year so both teams are very familiar with each other,” Williams said
They also seemed to have peaked at the right time
We will have our hands full and have to play our best to have a shot at beating them.”
On where he wants to see his team play better in round three
“We must make sure we don’t come out flat and that we are locked in and focused on making sure we do all phases of the game right so that we will set ourselves up for success,” Williams said
“We have to remember this is a best 2 out of 3 series and you will get their best shot
We have to hit the ball well and make sure we do away with the errors and walks from this past weekend’s games
We have to play motivated and confident like we have for most of the year
We say it like this Score runs to help our pitcher
make routines be routines and no free passes
On taking game three over Phil Campbell to advance
“I was extremely proud of the way our guys bounced back and competed in game three
They played with confidence and showed tremendous resilience,” Cornelius said
“We’ve been in a few game three situations this year
and each time they’ve responded with poise and toughness
The way they handled the pressure on the road in that kind of environment was better than I could’ve imagined.”
On preparing to face Winfield in the quarterfinals
“Winfield’s been a name we’ve heard all year long
They swing it well throughout the lineup and pitch it effectively
and we know they’re going to challenge us in every phase of the game.”
One area we need to clean up is limiting free passes
Walks and hit batters can really come back to haunt you in playoff baseball,” Cornelius said
“If we can keep those to a minimum and continue to play clean defense behind our arms
I really like our chances moving forward.”
On hosting the program’s first-ever quarterfinals appearance
“Hosting a third-round series is a huge deal for our program and our community,” Cornelius said
“There’s been so much energy around what this team has done the last few weeks
and we’re expecting a great atmosphere Friday night.”
ExpandDowners Grove South's Addison Yurchak hits a two-run triple during a 2024 softball game against Oswego at Oswego High School
Addison Yurchak plans to attend college at one of the country’s elite academic institutions
The Downers Grove South junior also has designs to keep playing softball
the Mustangs’ starting shortstop who sports a 4.56 weighted GPA and tested a 35 on her ACT

She’s thinking she’ll study biology or chemistry for a career as a doctor
“I was always looking for a high academic school knowing my goals for the future,” Yurchak said

finding her way into the lineup three games into high school ball
Yurchak is batting .442 with a .483 on-base percentage

“She’s a great kid,” Downers Grove South coach Jim Cushing said
“She’s come a long way since freshman year
Yurchak’s grandfather played softball back in the day against former Downers Grove South coach Ron Havelka
Yurchak got a feel for varsity softball as a freshman
She got a few opportunities and found a starting position at third base
what Cushing calls probably the hardest position in the game
“I was able to own the position and adapt to new circumstances
I felt really supported by coaches and teammates,” she said
“It gave me a lot more confidence in my abilities
gave me a lot more leadership in the infield as well.”
Cushing considers Yurchak a relatively quiet kid outside the lines
Yurchak agrees that she can be introverted
“She has that quiet fire in her,” Cushing said
She fits into our team so well with the camaraderie.”
maybe not 16 great players but 16 good kids
a group that consistently cheers for each other
With some more hard work I feel like we can have a strong end to the season,” Yurchak said
It’s always fun to go to practice surrounded by best friends.”

Barger puts on outfield clinic with trio of assistsApril 19th
TORONTO -- Seven pitchers combined to throw the ball 230 times on Friday night at Rogers Centre, but none of them touched Addison Barger's fastest throw on the radar gun
Barger completely took over the Blue Jays’ 3-1 win over the Mariners with his cannon from right field
With three throws spread across the fourth and fifth innings
Barger cut down two runners himself and helped with a third
snuffing out any sense of the Mariners’ momentum over and over again
“I love throwing the baseball,” Barger said after the win
“I don’t know if it’s confidence or just something I love to do
but it’s probably my favorite part of the game.”
Coming on a Friday night in front of a sold-out crowd
We’re super connected,” winning pitcher Bowden Francis said
“From the coaching staff and everyone down
Barger’s three outfield assists make him the first to pull off the hat trick since Mark Canha on July 23
and the first Blue Jays player to do so in nearly 46 years
stretching all the way back to Rick Bosetti on May 28
A story in 3 parts pic.twitter.com/ldWDJZkCXI
Only 12 players in MLB history have recorded four outfield assists in a game
with seven of those coming in the Modern Era
That hasn’t been done since Wally Berger for the Boston Braves on April 27
Among outfield assists in Major League Baseball this season
This was the defensive highlight of the game in the fourth inning
when Cal Raleigh pulled what looked like a double into the corner
he pivoted and fired a strike to Bo Bichette at second in time to get Raleigh for the second out
Credit an assist to defensive maestro Andrés Giménez
who recognized just how strong a throw this was in the air and let it skip past him instead of cutting it off
Randy Arozarena stood on first when Luke Raley lofted a double into the right-field corner
This one landed in a similar spot to Raleigh’s earlier
so Raley had time to slide into second base safe ..
Barger got the ball back into the infield so quickly
that by the time Arozarena’s right foot touched third base and he rounded for home
the ball was almost in Bichette’s glove already
so by the time the ball got to Alejandro Kirk at home plate
like a defensive tackle in football who blows up the middle of the offensive line and lets the havoc pour through
This one was the showstopper … and Rowdy Tellez never had a chance
Ben Williamson lofted a high fly ball down the right-field line that Barger settled underneath
Sign up to receive our daily Morning Lineup to stay in the know about the latest trending topics around Major League Baseball
then took one perfectly timed skip off the turf in front of Will Wagner at third
He just brought a different energy when he throws the ball like that
It makes our innings that much quicker and there’s a lot of elements that go into it
This incredible physical talent is nothing new for Barger, who looks like he can bend the bar in half after he’s done benching it. A year ago, he ranked sixth among 187 qualified outfielders with an average arm strength of 96.3 mph
He was also one of just 17 players in 2024 to throw a ball over 100 mph (100.6)
Barger said that he touched near 104 mph in a Spring Training game a year ago
and got as high as 107 mph on a pulldown (running throw)
Even though Francis has seen it a thousand times by now
and he had a suggestion for his longtime teammate

She changed what TikTokers could do after becoming a superstar on the app
as she expanded her reach into film and music
with her celebrity growing so significantly that she could seemingly do anything she wanted
As she heads toward the release of her debut album
yet another track from the project has become a sizable hit in the United Kingdom
“Headphones On” is Rae’s latest single from her forthcoming full-length
becoming a success on both consumption- and performance-based rankings
which is compiled based on streaming and sales activity to paint a picture of overall consumption
The influencer’s latest cut also played well enough to reach the Official Streaming chart
45 and just missing out on becoming a top 40 success on that list
It also barely breaks onto the Official Singles Downloads roster
selling what must have been a fairly small sum — just enough to become a winner on that tally
coming in third to last on the 100-spot roster
All four of the singles Rae has released from Addison have reached the Official Singles chart
Her winning streak continues with what has turned out to be her second-highest-rising hit
“Headphones On” follows only lead cut “Diet Pepsi,” which climbed higher and broke into the top 10
Follow-ups “Aquamarine” and “High Fashion” stalled at Nos
“Headphones On” is one of three songs by Rae to reach both the Official Streaming and Official Singles Downloads charts
It’s now her second-highest-rising win on the streaming-only tally
but it still ranks as her lowest placement ever on the list of the top-selling tunes on platforms like iTunes
The dance-pop project is one of the most highly anticipated of 2025
and based on the performance of the songs that have already been shared
it could become the commercial breakthrough for the TikTok powerhouse

MIDDLEBURY — The former Video King storefront at 10 Washington St
nostalgic reason for the cacophony of bleeps
bells and random yells emanating from the space neighboring Green Peppers Restaurant
It’s the signature ambiance of The Retro Realm
an old-school video arcade that Christian Bloom opened in April
It hosts around 40 video and hands-on games
many of which will look like old friends to folks north of 40 who’d spend some of their idle time at their local arcade pumping quarters into Asteroids
there was actually a time when one met up with other like-minded friends to enjoy video games
when enthusiasts plop down on their coach with a game controller and battle virtually with another random dude or dudette
the anonymity sometimes leading to salty trash talk
Bloom believes his business will again make video gaming interactive
with a capital “I,” for multiple generations of Addison County residents
“I’ve had a lot of families coming in here who tell me
and they play games — but there’s no social aspect to it; they never meet the people they talk to,’” Bloom said on Thursday as his army of machines maintained a steady background chatter
“This is forcing them to congregate together
just like there’s a social aspect to bowling
who originally hails from New York and settled in Bridport with his family three years ago
He knows his way around games — especially the big
He spent 25 years working for such entertainment-centric businesses as Chucky Cheese
He’s united clients with diversions ranging from pinball machines to Space Invaders to air hockey tables
Bloom explained his former jobs involved a lot of traveling
meaning long days in a vehicle and less time spent with his wife
he began looking for a way to become his own boss
He already had multiple contacts from which to source machines
He just needed a spot with decent foot traffic in a downtown area
Bloom saw Middlebury’s former Video King spot and thought it’d fit the bill nicely
the (Addison Central Teens) center is nearby,” he said
“And people can walk here from their homes
Bloom was able to negotiate an affordable rent for The Retro Realm
which he noted won’t compete with any businesses in the area
He’s stocked it with a good mix of games and will rotate in a handful of new ones every two or three weeks
He recently bought around 60 machines from a warehouse in Pennsylvania
He explained that many of them had been in movie theaters and eateries that closed during the COVID pandemic and never reopened
The Retro Realm’s offerings included multiple claw machines through which one can capture prizes
“I was looking for variety,” Bloom explained of his game selections
I had a list of categories I wanted and picked games to fit those categories.”
He said he feels lucky to have been able to buy his game inventory at a reasonable price
He anticipates the Trump-initiated tariffs — which have been a moving target — could add substantially to the cost of new games
customers won’t be feeding quarters into these arcade machines
A family of four can play for an hour for $30
There’s individual pricing for the claw games
This reporter playfully asked him if his ears bleed at the end of the day following prolonged exposure to the digital din
“It barely even bothers me,” he said with a grin
the silence is what drives me crazy sometimes.”
an arcade without auditory pyrotechnics is like a cone without ice cream
it does sound like an arcade.’ That’s the best compliment you can give,” a beaming Bloom said
And people are the reason Bloom got into the business
“What gives me the most pleasure is seeing multiple generations playing together
watching dad playing the Star Wars machine he played as a kid
Or mom playing air hockey with her son,” he said
“That’s the greatest thing I can possibly see
and the smiles on their faces when they leave.”

the Addison City Council approved a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to support the next phase of the Addison Circle Station Transit-Oriented Development (TOD)
The agreement extends exclusive negotiations with Quadrant Investment Properties (QIP)
the Town’s selected development partner for the mixed-use office component
This approval marks a significant milestone in a multi-year effort to bring Addison’s transit-oriented development vision to life
Since the Council adopted the Addison Circle Special Area Study in 2019
the project has evolved in response to market shifts
The current concept—featuring office
and parking—was one of the original options envisioned in the Addison Circle Vision Plan
It reflects a thoughtful balance of preserving Addison Circle’s urban character while integrating new uses that maximize the Town’s investment in the DART Silver Line
The TOD project is expected to serve as a catalyst for future redevelopment and reinvestment throughout the Addison Circle area
With more than 3,100 housing units already located within a half-mile of the station
Addison Circle Station is the most residentially dense TOD node along the Silver Line corridor

Addison McDowell is one of the youngest members of Congress
It wasn’t so long ago that the North Carolina Republican was starting out as an intern
“It was much better than writing essays in college
That was real-world experience that paid off,” he says of his internship with Rep
Next he worked as a campaign and district staffer for now-Sen. Ted Budd. After spending a few years as a lobbyist, McDowell landed Donald Trump’s endorsement over bigger names in a crowded primary, surprising many observers. He won in the newly redrawn 6th District as the open seat moved from blue to red
So far in his first term, McDowell has proposed renaming Dulles Airport after Trump, backed bipartisan bills aimed at overdose prevention and used his first floor speech to honor his younger brother Luke
whose death from fentanyl drove his run for office
He remembers getting the news while staffing a campaign event for Budd
“That moment is etched into my brain because it was the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced
In an interview with Roll Call earlier this month
and learning how to treat his former mentors as colleagues.
This interview has been edited and condensed
Q: What’s your earliest memory of politics
and I remember riding around in the car with my dad to put out yard signs when I was a really little kid.
and the reason I put my middle initial in my signature and on my office door is a nod to him.
and dad in the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship
They wanted our house to be somewhere we could openly talk about our faith
I realized I like to have lively discussions
and my parents taught me how to do that in a way that’s firm but respectful
Q: How did you get your internship with Hudson?
He used to be president of the fraternity I was in at UNC Charlotte
and so you’ve got a bunch of guys in Kappa Alpha that all looked up to him
and they wound up hiring me to work on the campaign
and after that I interned in his district office
and the district at the time had Charlotte Motor Speedway in it
but what really stands out are the people who would come into the office that we could help
Q: Next you worked on Budd’s House campaign and then as a district staffer
A: Watching him interact with folks that didn’t necessarily agree with him was an eye-opening experience
and so it was not a secret where he stood on the Second Amendment
but he would meet with groups of people very adamantly opposed to it
Q: You’ve talked a lot about your younger brother
You got a phone call at one of Budd’s campaign events in 2016.
It was like 10 days before he got elected to Congress
And I’ve heard from other folks in our district who experienced similar loss
That moment is etched into my brain because it was the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced
and I carry that with me in my service now.
because someone’s legacy isn’t dead until you say their name the last time

Attention Union Pacific North Line Neighbors
a contractor hired by Metra is scheduled to begin removing select trees and other vegetation in the Union Pacific Railroad right of way to make way for the first segments of the UP North Rebuild: Fullerton to Addison bridge replacement project
The tree removal work will start on the east side of the tracks from Fullerton to Schubert
then on the east side from Belmont to Addison
then on the west side from Addison to Belmont
and finally on the west side from Schubert to Fullerton
It will not include any work between Diversey and Belmont
The work will be done Monday through Friday from 9 a.m
and is expected to be completed by April 1
No trees or vegetation on private property will be removed
but there will be some limited removal on the public right of way where needed to facilitate access to the work area on the railroad right of way
Metra is committed to providing the community with updates about the UP North Rebuild: Fullerton to Addison Project and would like to provide you with a brief Project update:
Metra is seeking feedback from community members on landscaping improvements and community identifiers within the public way to ensure all voices are heard. To provide your feedback on the initial landscape design concepts for the public way, please click here and complete the survey before Monday, May 13, 2024
Your feedback on these initial concepts will help inform the landscape design improvement for the following public way locations as part of this Project:
Final engineering and design development are underway and anticipated to be finalized in 2024
Metra can secure a contractor and move forward with construction
Metra plans to host a preconstruction meeting to inform the public of the upcoming work prior to the start of construction
initial site preparation work is anticipated to begin in late 2024 and construction is anticipated to begin in 2025
The Project website will continue to be updated with additional information to address questions about the temporary easement process and ahead of construction. The Frequently Asked Questions section of the website has been updated to address some newly asked questions
the results of the environmental review process are available below
Metra initiated the temporary easement and restoration process with adjacent private property owners
Initial letters were delivered in October to affected property owners and Metra met with adjacent property owners along the west side of the tracks from Belmont Avenue to just south of Diversey Parkway to discuss the temporary easement process
The team will continue to coordinate with adjacent property owners regarding temporary easements
If you are an adjacent property owner with questions or concerns, please reach out to UPNrebuild@metrarr.com
Metra hosted the first of two public way focus group meetings to gather feedback on options to add landscaping improvements and community identifiers along the public way near the Project
Focus group participants included stakeholders and community group representatives who were selected with input from local aldermen and the Cook County Commissioner’s Office
Metra has been working diligently on project updates over the past year
Following the public meeting in April 2022
Metra carefully reviewed all public comments
identified feasible design adjustments to address these comments
secured additional funding for the Project
and completed the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) environmental review
Engineering and design development are underway with construction anticipated to begin in 2024
Metra will continue coordinating with Union Pacific
and adjacent residents on further project details
Based on further analysis and community feedback
the following design adjustments are being implemented along the project corridor:
Community input will be sought to develop landscape concepts
including options to enhance the tree canopy and options for residents to consider when restoring areas required for temporary easements
This community-focused design effort builds upon past work
including input gathered from the April 2022 public meeting and survey
Metra will reach out to residents immediately adjacent to the west side of the railroad from Belmont Avenue to south of Diversey Parkway to discuss further Project details and the need for temporary easements
Input from community stakeholders will also be sought to identify further community-friendly design improvements along the corridor
a public meeting will take place to notify the community of construction-related activities
The Project website will continue to be updated as the Project progresses. The community is welcome to submit any questions to UPNrebuild@metrarr.com
The Metra UP North Rebuild: Fullerton to Addison Project along Metra’s Union Pacific North (UP-N) Line consists of the following project elements:
Further project details and updates are provided in the Project’s Frequently Asked Questions section here
these bridges have surpassed their functional lifespan and can no longer be economically repaired and maintained
This project will modernize the existing infrastructure
reduce maintenance needs along the UP-N Line
create efficiencies and reduce operating costs
and improve the customer experience with increased reliability and passenger comfort
The project will result in new bridge structures that enhance the resiliency and reliability of Metra UP North rail service and improve accessibility at railroad underpasses
The total estimated construction cost of the project is $337 million
Funds totaling $279.1 million are currently allocated for its implementation
Metra is currently reviewing additional funding opportunities for this Project
Metra and the FTA have prepared a NEPA Documented Categorical Exclusion (DCE) to assess environmental impacts associated with this Project
The environmental review included comprehensive studies on historic and cultural resources
the FTA determined that the proposed Project meets the criteria for a NEPA categorical exclusion in accordance with C.F.R
the environmental review needed for this Project has been completed
The NEPA DCE document and its appendices can be found here:
Further details on the NEPA process are provided in the FAQ
The UP North Line provides rail service to passengers between downtown Chicago
suburban communities in Cook and Lake counties
Most of its 27 stations throughout 15 communities have been in their existing general location for more than a century
The UP North Line carries 70 passenger trains per weekday
Based on March 2023 conductor passenger counts
approximately 20,600 passengers use the UP North Line on an average mid-weekday (Tuesday through Thursday)
which represents more than 14% of Metra's total system passenger ridership (140,300) on an average mid-weekday
This Project will secure another century of connectivity for rail passengers and the local community
Construction of the Project has been divided into three segments as illustrated below to minimize the impact of the five-year Project on local communities while maintaining all rail operations
This plan will limit major construction impacts to specific local areas for set periods
rather than affecting the entire Project corridor at once
There will be some street and sidewalk closures throughout the Project
gardens or other property adjacent to the railroad may be impacted by construction
Metra is working to develop a comprehensive construction communications plan to ensure that members of the community are notified of construction impacts well before they occur
If you are an adjacent property owner or resident and have any specific questions or concerns about the Project, please contact UPNrebuild@metrarr.com

the Addison City Council approved two new public art installations
both donated by the Addison Arbor Foundation (AAF)
that will enhance public spaces with nature-inspired artwork
The first project features three sculptural benches designed by artist Ken McCall
to be installed along the trail behind the AMLI Treehouse Phase I development
Each bench represents a native Texas tree—Texas Ash
and Bur Oak—and will be constructed from recycled decking with coated metal trim
These benches are funded through AMLI Residential’s $150,000 public art contribution and are expected to be installed in late 2025
Council also approved the installation of a mosaic butterfly sculpture titled Blue Butterfly
Crafted from stained glass within a steel frame and mounted on a stone boulder
the sculpture will be placed near a pollinator patch in the Beltway Greenspace
This vibrant addition is funded by a Town of Addison grant awarded to AAF and will complement the landscaping underway as part of the Beltway Bike Lane project
– The Addison Bulldogs traveled to Meek High School to take on the Tigers in this year’s 1A
Area 14 tournament Monday night and it took three games to decide an area champion
Addison took game one 8-5 to take a 1-0 lead in the series but Meek bounced back to take game two 15-1 and game three 17-5 to capture the area championship
Both the Tigers and Bulldogs will advance to compete at the East Regional in Albertville next week
There was no score until the top of the third when Addison struck for two runs as Savannah Miller
“Mac” Carter and Lainey Evans all singled in a row
scoring Miller and Carter. The Tigers struck back in their half of the third as Molli Sandlin and Carmyn Daugherty hit back-to-back two out doubles to score Sandlin
Meek plated two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-2 lead
Addisyn Williams knocked in two of the runs with a single
The ladies from Addison answered in the top half of the fourth with a big three run inning as Annabeth Powell sent a Tiger pitch over the centerfield fence for a three-run homer. This gave the Bulldogs the 5-3 lead
Addison scored three more in the top of the seventh inning to seemingly put the game away with an 8-3 lead. Meek came back with two of their own in the bottom of the seventh to make it respectable and the final score was 8-5 Addison
Not much to say about the second game as Meek led from start to finish. The Lady Tigers got two runs in the first as they had two hits
a hit batter and an error on the Dawgs to get their runs
Lady Tigers Williams and Daugherty scored the runs. Meek added two more in the third as Daugherty and Anna-Belle Collins scored to give Meek a 4-0 lead
Meek’s Sandlin crushed a two-run homer in the fourth to push the lead to 6-0. The Lady Tigers added one more in the fifth as Sadi Farley singled in Collins. Meek got another run as Williams hit her second triple of the game and she came in to score on a Sandlin single
Meek put the game away in the top of the seventh as they plated seven runs to lead 15-0. 12 Lady Tigers batted and the Tigers had 9 out of 10 batters reach base at one point. Addison was able to avoid the shutout as Preslei Atkins singled home Summer Evans will the long Bulldog run
gave up no earned runs and got the complete game victory
The Lady Tigers came out fired up in the top of the first and plated seven runs to put the Lady Bulldogs down seven before they even had a chance to bat
Six of the first seven Meek batters got hits to include four doubles in the inning. Six different Tigers had RBIs and Williams had two hits in the inning. Addison got a run back as Powell knocked in Evans
The second had Meek scoring one with an Amori Miles sacrifice fly to left to score Collins to stretch the lead to 8-1. The Lady Bulldogs tried to make a game of it in their half of the second. A couple of Lady Tiger errors helped the Lady Dawgs as Katie Barrett drove in one run with a single and “Mac” Carter singled in two more runs to trim the lead to 8-4
Meek had an answer as they plated nine more runs
five in the third and four in the fourth inning to salt the game away. Meek scored all their runs in the third inning on only two hits
Daughtrey hit a sacrifice fly and Cox singled in a run. The Lady Tiger fourth had Daughtrey single in two runs
Collins and Farley each hit sac flies to plate runs
Meek had Williams go five hits in 10 at bats
six runs scored with two triples. Sandlin went 9 out of 13 with six RBIs
triple and a home run. Daughtrey went 4-10 with six RBIs
six runs scored with three doubles. Collins went 6 out of 12 with four RBIs
seven runs scored and two doubles. Farley went 4 for 10 with five RBIs and two runs scored
Kadence Cox pitched two complete games and collected two wins
Addison had Miller go 3-11 with two runs scored and three stolen bases. Powell went 4-9 with four RBIs and two runs scored
a double and stolen base. Carter went 5-10 with three RBIs and three runs scored and four stolen bases
“I tried to stress to the girls this week that even though we beat Addison several times this year these games were not going to be easy; Addison will be ready to play
and it showed in that first game,” Woods said
“I am happy with where the girls are at mentally right now
If we continue doing the little things I think continued success can be in our future.”
