Frustrated residents have taken to Facebook worried about Alexander City's water quality
We took those concerns to Mayor Woody Baird who heads up city utilities
He blamed a number of factors affecting their water source: Lake Martin
"This year we've had four times the normal amount of algae blooms; it exploded
We've been fighting this since April," explained the Mayor Baird
Warm weather has kept lake water temperatures too high and on top of that there's been little rain
"We haven't had a sizeable rain in 8 months to a year," said the mayor
He gave us a whiff of the water in his office and it was bad
Mayor Baird says chemicals used to purify the water leave the odor
But if you don't want that get a Brita filter and it's fine
perfectly safe to drink," remarked Mayor Baird
