A judge remanded Sharpe to jail and scheduled his next court hearing for April 28
he faces up to life in prison for the murder charge

Anderson was rewarded with her violent death
Please beware of the signs of potential domestic violence

Court records on Monday did not list an attorney for Sharpe
Authorities allege the defendant fatally stabbed and his grandmother
Allen Park police said officers responded to a home in a condominium complex in the 10000 block of Allen Pointe Drive at about 7:20 p.m
after a family member said he could not reach Anderson or Sharpe
Authorities found blood splatter on the walls and carpet
A white 2024 Ford Edge was missing from the residence
Cell phone data indicated that either Anderson's or Sharpe's phone was recently in the area of the 7700 block of Prairie Street
American Street and Burnette Street in the city of Detroit
officers found Sharpe walking on McDonald Street
He was detained without incident and transported to the Allen Park Police Department for questioning
Police transported it to the police station for evidence processing
Investigators said Sharpe attacked Anderson at about 6 p.m
They said he stabbed her multiple times with a knife and then moved her body
Anderson's body was found in a small field on Tillman Street
The incident follows other stabbings in Michigan involving family members
In February, a Holland woman told police she stabbed her 17-year-old son to death the day before his birthday because he didn’t want to turn 18
In January, a 19-year-old Detroit man was charged with assault after he allegedly stabbed three family members
Also that month, the defense attorney for a Taylor teen accused of fatally stabbing his 7-year-old sister requested an independent competence exam to assess his fitness to face charges
ALLEN PARK, Mich. – A Facebook post from the Allen Park Firefighters Union is causing some buzz in the community. The union claims the department’s staffing is reaching dire levels, stretching firefighters too thin.
The Facebook post was a farewell announcement for a longtime member of the fire department, who is leaving for another city rather than retiring.
Richard Hamilton, president of Allen Park Firefighters Local 1410, expressed his frustration.
“Once again, we lost another member of our department to a city with a better compensation package,” Hamilton said.
He highlighted the disconnect between public perception and the internal struggles of the department.
“The citizens see the fire trucks driving down the road. They don’t realize the internal struggles we have trying to keep our members,” he said.
Over the past five years, the department has lost 11 members. While seven retired, four left for other departments. Hamilton noted that hiring new members is challenging, as other departments are winning out.
“It all comes down to what the city is willing to pay, and they’re not willing to compete with these other communities,” he said.
Allen Park Fire Chief Jeff O’Reilly, who has been with the department for 26 years, shared his perspective on the issue.
“It’s very frustrating to see our numbers continue to go down, and while we are trying everything that we can to recruit new candidates, they’re just not out there,” O’Reilly said.
Currently, the department is down five members, but they can still operate safely thanks to many crew members agreeing to work overtime.
“It makes it hard because the crews are getting tired of working extra shifts, so sometimes we’ll run short, and the crews have to pick up that slack,” he said. “We still have to keep going out the door to help those that need us.”
The firefighters’ contract with the city is set to expire in June 2026. Hamilton hopes the city will improve its compensation package to fully staff the department.
“That’s the goal. My fear is we can’t wait that long. We’re losing people at an unprecedented pace, and I feel if we wait that long, we’re going to continue to lose people,” he said.
Another challenge in recruiting firefighters is the requirement for new hires to be firefighter-paramedics, which takes two to three years of training. This requirement complicates the immediate hiring process.
For those interested in a job with the Allen Park Fire Department, Chief O’Reilly encourages potential candidates to stop by one of their stations or give them a call. “We’d love to hear from you,” he said.

"I just remember doing two warm-up laps and then doing our regular warm-up in lines
but that's all I remember from that day," Atkinson said

That statistic makes knowing how to identify and respond to it crucial
"The more time that's wasted trying to figure out if there's an emergency or what that emergency is
the less likely someone is to survive," she said
That's why Corewell Health works with schools to help them prepare
"What that entails is having CPR-certified staff
having a team in place that responds when there's a cardiac arrest
and practicing with that team on what to do
Along with the right equipment like AEDs that we're able to donate to schools who need them," Shea said
Dolan said it's still unknown what caused Alyssa's cardiac arrest

ALLEN PARK, Mich. – Two people are dead, and four others were seriously injured after a crash in Allen Park Tuesday night.
Police responded to the intersection of Ecorse Road and Pelham Road on April 8 just before 11 p.m. after receiving a report of an SUV on fire and a sedan had struck a nearby building.
When officers arrived, they learned the sedan was struck by an SUV and was pushed into a building near the 19000 block of Ecorse Road.
There were two women in the sedan. Police said the front passenger in this car was conscious and breathing and was responding to officers. The driver, a 20-year-old Allen Park woman, was not conscious and breathing. The 20-year-old died at the scene.
Additional officers arrived and began helping the people in the burning SUV. Three passengers were able to get out of the car and were lying on the ground. The driver of the SUV was unconscious and trapped in the SUV. Firefighters put out the flames and found a man burned in the car. He died at the scene.
All passengers were taken to a local hospital and are all in critical condition. Allen Park police are not releasing the names of the victims or passengers involved out of respect for the families.
The investigation is ongoing. Detectives are working on getting surveillance of the crash.

ALLEN PARK, Mich. – Allen Park is a community brimming with pride.
“They actually call us the jewel of Downriver,” said longtime resident Jim Beri.
In addition to calling Allen Park home for more than 50 years, Beri also serves as executive director of the Allen Park Chamber of Commerce.
“We’re the corridor for anyone who wants to come downtown, you have to come through Allen Park,” said Beri.
Beri introduced us to some of the new businesses that are setting up shop in town, adding, that there’s been a lot of interest.
“Houses don’t stay for sale long here in Allen Park… I get calls all the time are there any businesses available? We have real estate agents, I give them their numbers and they’re filling up the stores,” Beri said.
One of those new businesses is Qazzaz, a coffee shop that recently relocated from Dearborn to a space on Allen Road. Owner, Mohammad Qazzaz, says the city had been on his radar for a key reason.
“It’s in-between downriver communities, [close to] Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, and for our wholesale business, people come from Ohio, Kentucky, New York, Chicago,” said Oazzaz.
For Qazzaz, the move has been a dream. His new building has allowed him to create an inviting retail space that allows people to relax and sip coffee as they watch the coffee beans roast through tall glass windows.
Qazzaz says fellow business owners have been welcoming, and so has the community. Close by on Allen Road, a few other businesses are preparing to open their doors, including a nuts and spice store and a perfume shop.
The Streatery, which recently opened up, is already a new favorite for locals.
Beri says there’s a lot to like about the city.
“I think the future looks great for Allen Park right now,” said Beri.

ALLEN PARK
It stood at the corner of Allen Road and Philomene Blvd for decades until it closed its doors in 2019
The City of Allen Park purchased the theatre from its owners
It was a place where many memories were made
There had been proposals for the space to be turned into a mixed-use building that would include housing units with retail space down below
Local 4 spoke with city leaders about their plan for the lot and learned that despite the hangup
we have to adapt,” said interim city manager Tom Murray
You may remember the city had released renderings and a plan for building an amphitheater where people could enjoy the space
That may not be what ends up in place of the old theatre either
Allen Park has applied for American Rescue Fund Act dollars from Wayne County.
A couple of months ago, in August, Murray says they were out surveying the land in review of the request.
They’re still waiting to see what funding may be approved, which will ultimately determine what is built in the space.
The idea of making it a gathering place remains. In the warmer months, concerts were held in the area, and benches were placed for people to enjoy the outdoors.
City leaders say they’ll soon contact residents to learn their wishes for the space.

(WXYZ) — A store owner in Allen Park is sharing his journey as he's biked tens of thousands of miles
with some of those rides giving back to others
you'd expect to find footwear and foot care products
"This store has been around a long time and it's one of the few independent shoe stores left," said Mark Bailey
But what may be surprising is the number of maps draped across the walls and hanging from the ceilings
Each one of those maps represents a journey for Bailey
"That started in 1968 when the Tigers won the World Series and I knew I wouldn't be able to go to the World Series
so I rode down and rode around the stadium," Bailey said
Hear more from Mark Bailey in the video player below:
estimates he's biked upward of 55,000 miles in his lifetime
That includes a number of trips to Tennessee to visit his mother and destinations all over
Along for most of those rides is a yellow 1974 Schwinn Le Tour bike
"I've considered doing a real expensive lightweight fast bike
but it's too eye appealing and it's too dangerous
I want to take my time when I'm on these rides and puts along at 15
20 miles per hour and see the sights," Bailey said

Just a few doors down at Roll Models Bike Shop
staff know exactly what the vintage bike means to Bailey
"We've rebuilt it several times and he just continues to ride it
He's also been introduced to newer technology and he refuses
and that's OK — he's Mark," said Andy Staub
While visiting family and new places are a part of Bailey's love for cycling
I'd offer people a penny a mile for me to ride," Bailey said
Although he has shortened his 1,000 mile trips in recent years
he's proud to still be so active at his age
"If you have ants in your pants you will live longer
Bailey says his next trip will depend on his mother's health

ALLEN PARK, Mich. – Most Detroit Lions fans are familiar with the players showing their prowess on the field
but their training begins away from the lights and fans
The Meijer Performance Center is home to the team’s practice facility
Local 4 recently toured the sprawling 225,000-square-foot building
After the organization left the Pontiac Silverdome, the Ford family built the practice facility in Allen Park and Dearborn to be closer to the automotive company’s headquarters
“Each position group has their own meeting room and classroom,” said Eamonn Reynolds
Reynolds said half the organization is based in Allen Park and handles the football operation
Ford Field oversees the business operations, he said.
“However, it’s two buildings, but we work as one organization,” Reynolds said. “One pride is our team and company slogan.”
The practice facility boasts two natural grass practice fields.
Fans may know the field from either watching public practices during the August training camp or from the 2022 HBO Hard Knocks series following the team during training camp.
If not practicing outside, there’s the option to use a 95,000-square-foot indoor practice field.
“The turf you see here is new turf that was installed last year that resembles exactly the turf on Ford Field,” Reynolds said.
During the season, it’s common to see coaches and players working a grueling 12-hour day.
If they played on Sunday, it’s back to the practice facility Monday followed by a quick rest day on Tuesday.
Then, they grind the rest of the week. There’s also plenty of practice film to watch.
“If you look around the facility, up on the walls, there are cameras installed in the pillars of the indoor field,” Reynolds said.
In a snapshot, you can see the work and investment are paying off in big ways.
“If you’re a Detroit sports fan, now is a good time to be one,” Reynolds said. “It is an exciting time to be in the organization. Our fans are who we do it for.”

which has not won the Division 1 state title since 2016
believes it has the talent to get back to MSU for another crack at lifting the state championship trophy
Mercy returns all but two starters from a year ago
including Alabama-bound pitcher Kaitlyn Pallozzi
“It’s hard to believe that Kaitlyn has gotten even better both physically and mentally,” said Mercy coach Corey Burras of Pallozzi
“We returned all but two starters from last year and our expectations are the same: trust our process
We will prepare at every opportunity to perform at our peak whenever we get to play.”
Mercy showcases a strong lineup that includes leadoff hitter and centerfielder Sophia Chaput
shortstop Charlie Lambert (Central Michigan)
catcher Evelyn Miller and third baseman Meg Kowalyk
Allen Park: Look for another deep run from Allen Park
which won the Division 1 state title in 2023 and has several players set to get their team back to MSU
Allen Park is led by Michigan-bound shortstop Kiley Carr
right behind slap-hitting leadoff hitter Makayla Sitarski (Toledo) and ahead of catcher Mallory Hool (Oakland)
Hool has developed a strong relationship with Madonna-bound pitcher Melody Filipiak (1.50 ERA/167 strikeouts)
Saline: Michigan-bound catcher Sydney Hastings highlights a talented lineup that includes infielder Ashley Malinczak
junior Abby Curtis and junior Reese Rupert
who had nine RBI in her first six games this season
Saline had an impressive effort in a 2-1 loss to Mercy April 11 when Curtis struck out 11 in four shutout innings and junior Harper Grambau struck out six more during the final three innings while allowing the two runs
Lake Orion: Lake Orion returns a dominant 1-2 combination on the mound in Rylee Limberger (22-4
2.15 ERA) from last year’s Division 1 state runnerup finish
Addy Dukus will lead the offense after hitting .493 with 32 RBI and 60 runs scored a year ago

34 runs scored) and junior Virginia Heikka (.390)
Dearborn Divine Child: With Jessica Nelson back on the mound
Divine Child could make it back to MSU like it did in 2023 when it suffered a 2-1 semifinal loss to eventual Division 2 state champion Gaylord
Divine Child also returns Katherine Modrzejewski
who was 2-for-4 earlier this season in a 5-1 win over Farmington Hills Mercy
when Nelson and junior Ava Bowman split time on the mound

Woodhaven: After making a surprising run to the Division 1 Final Four two years ago
junior outfielder Mia Taylor and Danielle Couture

An early morning roadway mishap last week with doughnuts in Allen Park
followed by a funny social media post and the ensuing news coverage
has become a marketing opportunity — and a way to thank officers — for Krispy Kreme
"We thought we’d thank them," doughnut company spokesman Jack Farmer told the Free Press on Monday
adding that Krispy Kreme was glad the incident didn’t happen at say
when the roads might have been filled with traffic
but some cops aren’t too keen on the doughnut-eating trope
it created a visual — cops picking up doughnuts on the road — too good not to share
More: Allen Park Police Department 'grieving' spillage of Krispy Kreme doughnuts
the doughnut-loving police stereotype got started decades ago when bakeries would start preparing their morning treats late at night and would welcome cops
who offered workers an extra sense of safety
by offering them their treats and coffee at no charge
Allen Park police posted a photo of the doughnut disaster to Facebook with a self-deprecating caption: "The road was cleared but most of the Krispy Kreme doughnuts were lost," adding
"our officers are still grieving but will press on."
In response to the post, Krispy Kreme, which earlier this year announced a deal with McDonald’s to sell doughnuts at its eateries nationwide
said it delivered at least dozens of fresh doughnuts to the 40 or so people at the police station on Monday as a "show of gratitude for the 'road glaze' cleanup" by the officers
North Carolina-based company also sent an email to the Free Press alerting it to what it was planning to do for the Allen Park officers
Allen Park Police Officer Patrick Moore said Monday no one was offended and everyone at the police station was grateful for the sugary treats
even cops who grumble about jokes about doughnuts tend to get over them quickly when someone hands them a free one
A lockdown at an Allen Park elementary school on Thursday morning has been lifted
They said staff at Lindemann Elementary School implemented a "shelter-in-place" protocol after Allen Park police notified them about an issue with a resident at a home about three blocks from the building
Allen Park police officials were not immediately available for comment on Thursday
Under the school's shelter-in-place protocol
outdoor activities and visitor access to the building were temporarily paused but student and staff movement within the facility was unrestricted
The school is located on Carter Street near Wick and Allen roads
"Once we received the 'all clear' from the Allen Park Police Department
the school promptly resumed its normal daily schedule," Allen Park Public Schools Superintendent Mike Darga said in a statement
"We extend our gratitude to the Allen Park Police Department for their partnership and dedication to the safety of our school community."
It was a cop's daydream and nightmare wrapped into one early Friday morning when a delivery truck hauling boxes of Krispy Kreme doughnuts tipped over on Southfield Road
just a few feet from the Krispy Kreme storefront
scattering sweet treats up and down the street
an officer with Allen Park Police Department who runs the Facebook page
said it was a basic traffic disturbance on a relatively slow night
except for maybe the officers' broken hearts

"The fact that it was a bunch of police officers clearing doughnuts out of the road
we got a kick out of it and just wanted to share it with the community," Moore said
After clearing the scene, officers took photos of the doughnuts strewn about, which they posted to their Facebook account later Friday

PALM BEACH, Fla. - After considering plans to build a new practice facility in recent years, the Detroit Lions are staying in Allen Park
Lions president Rod Wood said Tuesday the Lions "have no plans to move right now" and are in the process of renovating their current training center
"We're investing a ton in the building," Wood said at the NFL's annual spring meeting at The Breakers hotel
There really isn't a great location that is superior to where we are
The Lions built their current 225,000-square foot practice facility in 2003 and have modernized the building in recent years
installing new turf on their indoor field and refurbishing their locker room and dining facilities
Wood said the team is expanding the weight room and purchasing "all new weight equipment" and refurbishing the locker room
The changes were made in response to a survey the team did with players and a report card the NFL Players Association puts out annually grading team working conditions. The Lions ranked ninth among 32 teams in this year's NFLPA survey
but received a C-plus grade for their locker room
Wood acknowledged the Lions may never have enough space to add a third full outdoor practice field in the current footprint
but said the benefits they'd derive from that including increased training camp attendance "are minor compared to the benefits of the location
