faced with the difficulty of acquiring property in the big cities
are increasingly opting to live in municipalities far from the cities
the price of houses and flats are much cheaper
Andalusia is one of the most affordable options
is the cheapest municipality in Andalusia to buy a property
With an average price of 644 euros per square metre
the town in Jaen is below other nearby provinces
and marks the difference with respect to other more expensive locations
this municipality has experienced a boom in property purchases thanks to its affordability
This has attracted both families and investors in search of opportunities
Jaén also has six other municipalities that are among the ten cheapest in the entire autonomous community
with an average price of 666 euros per square metre
This makes it possible to find four-bedroom flats in La Carolina for as little as 40,000 euros
There are also properties for sale for as little as 15,000 euros
although it should be noted that some of these require major renovations
The municipality of Jienesen is located in a strategic location with good road connections to the provincial capital and other nearby municipalities
which facilitates the mobility of those who need to travel for work purposes
the locality benefits from a strong presence of sectors such as the agri-food industry and the motor industry
with important companies that generate local employment and contribute to the economy of the area
the proximity to the Despeñaperros Natural Park has given a boost to rural tourism
opening up new job opportunities in the tourism and services sector

Every cloud has a silver lining and even though last week's 1 May bank holiday was cooler than tourists would have wanted it to be
the rainfall that fell from Wednesday to Friday last week brought a new increase in water levels in Malaga province's reservoirs
as irrigation and livestock received extra supplies
According to the director of Malaga's Aemet weather centre
the isolated cold storm (abbreviated as BFA in Spanish) that was active in the province last week left significant discharges in the first couple of days of May
Up to 60mm of rain was collected in El Juanar
as estimated by various official and unofficial rain gauge networks
Important gains were also recorded in: Casares (38mm); Manilva (31); Estepona (29); Jubrique (26); Pilones (25); Benahavís (24); Guadalmina and Pujerra (23) Los Reales (20) and El Burgo (19)
Between 10 and 20mm were recorded in many other areas
the Hidrosur network of the Junta de Andalucía announced that
In the Guadalmina dam (45) and the Guadalmansa dam (43)
which flow into the La Concepción reservoir - the main source of supply for the western Costa del Sol
Cortes de la Frontera (74mm) and Gaucín (60) stand out
"These two weather stations have already recorded more than 700mm so far this year." As a reference
30mm have been recorded at the airport and 38 at the meteorological centre in El Cónsul
the records of the Junta de Andalucía's's Hidrosur network include more than 70mm in Alfarnatejo; 67 in Cortes de la Frontera; 59 on the Guadiaro river; 55 in Villanueva de la Concepción and 52 at the Guadalmansa diversion dam
The accumulations have once again been reflected in reservoir levels
The overall level of resources on Friday 2 May was 61.5%
reservoirs as a whole have gained 2 million cubic metres compared to the previous week
La Concepción near Marbella is practically full - something that will be officially confirmed once the runoffs are added to the calculations
which is more than enough water for the upcoming summer and until the beginning of next year
There is also good news from the inland areas of the province
The reservoirs of the Guadalhorce system have continued to rise
despite the fact that the heat is beginning to set in and consumption is increasing
The Guadalteba - the largest - is almost at 52.7%
there are the Casasola and El Limonero reservoirs
Although their function is different from that of other reservoirs (they serve mainly to prevent flooding in Malaga)
which supplies the eastern part of the province and the Axarquia
Although it hardly rained in that area last week
the run-off around the Guaro river would still allow it to exceed half its capacity for the first time (50.2%
So Malaga's largest reservoir has plenty of water to supply domestic consumption for years to come and the Junta de Andalucía has also allowed irrigation supplies to be increased

Let us be your convenient and essential guide to all things that will likely affect you as a foreign resident living in Spain
the largest in the province of Malaga and essential for the Axarquia region
has now reached over 50% of its capacity for the first time in years
According to the latest data published by Hidrosur, La Viñuela reservoir holds 82.56 cubic hectometres of water. The improvement comes after a particularly wet March
the second rainiest on record in the province
according to the Spanish State Meteorological Agency (AEMET)
residual runoff from earlier storms continues to boost the reservoir’s reserves
The recent increase in water levels marks a turning point for La Viñuela reservoir
which has been among the hardest hit by drought in recent years and was considered a “dead reservoir”
The recovery of La Viñuela brings a sense of relief after a prolonged drought in the area
But authorities warn that responsible water use and long-term management will be essential for Axarquía’s supply in the coming years

A young man has died this Sunday afternoon after being run over on the A-7 motorway
as it passes through Marbella on the Costa del Sol
according to the 112 Andalucía emergency service coordination centre
At 1.52pm operators responded to a call for help requesting urgent medical assistance for a person lying on the road who had been run over by a vehicle at kilometre 1051
National Police and Guardia Civil traffic division were called to the scene but health professionals could only confirm the death of the victim
The team won against Granada at the weekend in a great game from start to finish
The players overpowered their opponents in all areas and were the deserved winners of a match that was spectacular due to the atmosphere at La Rosaleda and the importance of the points
This second home win in a row launches Sergio Pellicer's team towards safety from the drop
which was already very close after a losing streak that stressed out their loyal fans
was enough to take the game and the three points
While Malaga CF had plenty of opportunities to put the game to bed
their opponents only threatened on isolated occasions
Malaga's leap in the standings is impressive
almost leaving the threat of relegation behind
Malaga's players once again demonstrated their commitment to the team
they wore their mothers' surname on their backs in homage to Día de la Madre (Mother's Day in Spain): Peinador (Herrero)
Pellicer almost replicated his plan from the previous week against Castellón
He brought on Nelson in place of the suspended Pastor and opted for Luismi
who had not performed well in previous games
With three centre-backs and Antoñito as a wing back
the coach was once again looking to stop a strong opponent in a match that started with the home side pressing hard
boosted by their fans in a packed Rosaleda stadium
all of their attempts missed or saved by Granada's goalkeeper
without any real opportunity for them to strike back
Chupete entered the box and in a recovery of the ball he was the subject of a penalty
driving the fans crazy in the La Rosaleda stands
But then came more chances for the home side
who took the measure of their opponents and searched for another goal
although the score would not change in the minutes remaining until the break (Antoñito had another shot from a low free kick)
Pellicer was winning the tactical game against Escribá
but Granada had the obligation to take a step forward
And they tried to do so at the start of the second half
but Malaga's work rate was higher and more effective in all areas of the pitch
Malaga were superior and the fans were once again enjoying themselves
although the pace of the Granada side was increasing
It was clear that the end of the game would be evenly balanced and that Malaga would be facing a final sprint from a wounded opponent in their quest for promotion
the tactical game reached its decisive moment
were finding it difficult to reach Herrero's goal area
with Borja Bastón trying to become a reference point up front
Although Rahmani had the chance to put the game to bed at the end
Malaga CFshowed their skill in achieving a victory in a great game
well-planned by the coach and played to perfection by his team
who have definitely recovered from their losing streak
Cordero is expected to join Newcastle United this summer
having reportedly signed a pre-contract agreement
While it has yet to have been officially confirmed, Newcastle have reached an agreement to sign Cordero
with the 18-year-old having attracted big interest from elsewhere
Barcelona tried to sign Cordero but the teenager looks bound for St James’ Park as things stand
Playing out what look to be his final few games for his boyhood club in Malaga
Cordero may have just had a major say in their season
The Spanish side are fighting for their survival in the second tier this season
They took a huge step towards ensuring their second-tier status by beating rivals Granada on Saturday night
the three points being sealed by Cordero himself
The teenager scored a penalty in the first-half
sealing another crucial three points in their pursuit of safety
La Opinion de Malaga gave him an 8/10 said of his performance: “He took responsibility and did not miss the penalty
Merchan en Directo
said while giving him a 9/10: “Took responsibility for the penalty
He was the Málaga player who caused the most danger to Diego Mariño’s goal
He wasn’t at his best in the aiming exercise
but he did show composure and quality to finish the penalty that gave Málaga CF the victory
“He scored at Los Carmenes and today he did it again at La Rosaleda.”
Initially, it was claimed that Newcastle plan to loan Cordero out after signing him
Ajax have been linked with a move for Cordero
who certainly seems to be in-demand right now
However, Cordero’s agents suggest he could stay at Newcastle next season, although expecting anyone to make the immediate step-up from the Spanish second tier to the Premier League feels unwise
Newcastle last season saw Yankuba Minteh excel on loan at Feyenoord
the Magpies never actually got to see him play in the first-team but it still raised his value to the point where Brighton moved to sign him
a loan move for Cordero certainly seems the best idea at this stage in his development
Women's TeamUD Almería Women wrap up a season in which they dreamed of promotion The Rojiblancas face their final Matchday this Sunday at 12 noon
Despite having evolved to become a universal practice (there is rarely a person who does not have a tattoo)
businesses are going through a period of slowdown
caused solely and exclusively by unfair competition: tattooists with hardly any training who tattoo at home
without complying with the strict health regulations that govern this activity
which would require the materials used to comply with regulations
illegal 'artists' offer their services at much lower prices and their clientele grows
the risks for the clients are much greater in this case
is the president of the national union of professional tattooists and piercers (Untap)
He is also the founder and owner of Tattoo Stone - the oldest studio in Malaga
there was only one foreigner tattooing in Torremolinos and no one else
We were the first Spaniards to open a studio," he said
"It is true that the market has grown a lot: companies have been doing very well for a few years
All costs have gone up and we have a serious problem with illegal tattooists," he said
Untap has recently drawn up a report on this issue
there are five tattooists operating illegally in flats that do not meet the health and hygiene conditions required by the regulations
"This is very similar to the situation in Seville
while the one in Madrid is even worse," McCoy said
It is a problem that starts at the grassroots
The oldest-serving tattoo professionals got a licence after a long training process
achieved through extensive courses that included teaching about the health regulations they must respect
All of them also went through an apprenticeship
with at least two years of professional experience
all of them are people who have always been interested in drawing and who have demonstrated excellent skills in the field
"Now they do courses of just a few days and are told that it is not necessary to be able to draw in order to tattoo
some try to open studios and see that they can't do it
everything has to be legal and it is compulsory to use sterilised products with every client
we certainly spend 40 euros on average in fixed costs
you depend on the ethics and knowledge of the tattooist
they are not using the materials that the Junta de Andalucía has determined as safe
those who work in flats promote themselves on social media and have the same marketing as any legal studio," said McCoy
The president of Untap also said that the professional organisation has brought this issue to the attention of local councils and regional authorities
but "they continue to operate with total impunity"
while "those who are open to the public are still the ones undergoing health inspections"
a client could face a serious health problem
"Hepatitis can remain on the surface of the skin for up to 15 days or a month," he said
insisting on the importance of thorough disinfection after each client
Alberto Ramírez 'Fido' is the manager of Fido Tattoo - a studio that has been open in Mijas for 24 years
there are three tattoo artists working there
It's true that we are considered a reference in this area
but there are many clients who don't think it through and get tattooed in an illegal flat to save money," he said
Fido stated that people who work from their home are people with hardly any training
"They are being told that they can become superstars after a quick course
which is actually just an initiation into the craft
He said that there are more and more such courses and less and less vocational training
"There are different proper courses every year and the people who do them are serious - people who have been in the sector for years
Fido also took the opportunity to clarify the misinformation regarding the negative consequences of tattoos that appears from time to time
I have never met anyone who has had problems with pigments
Tomy Loeb is the manager of TNT Marbella - a studio opened in 1999
where he arrived as an apprentice 15 years ago
He barely earned any money during his training
but he knew the objective he was pursuing and always moved forward with conviction
now kids want to know everything in a month," he said
TNT's clientele has a somewhat particular profile compared to the clients of the rest of the studios in Malaga province
"They are clients with very high purchasing power
who are not usually in Spain all year round
They tend to have a house here and book their appointments for the day before they return home
because it is much more expensive to get a tattoo in their country than here."
One of the areas of this business that has experienced significant growth is tattoo removal
fads and illegal artists have done a lot of damage and that there are many people who want to remove a tattoo they got years ago and now don't feel comfortable with
has had a street name dedicated to him by Estepona council
to officially unveil the new street sign along with a plenty of family
named after the couple Alan and Carol James
a couple who landed in the Costa del Sol 55 years ago
no one could have ever imagined what Alan was going to do for the south coast of Spain
Self-taught in skills of accounting and management
after 15 years of working in the concrete business
he heard a rumour that northern Europeans were becoming increasingly interested in buying second homes on the Spanish coast
While Spaniards tend to prefer to live close together
Alan knew that Northern European tastes were more for space and airiness
and so a new kind of Spanish coastal living was born
Together with business partners who shared Alan’s vision, the Experience Group was formed. From construction, to electronics, from cruise ships to establishing the Costa del Sol’s first lawn bowls clubs, without Alan’s business prowess, the Costa del Sol would never have looked as it does today.
87 years old and Alan still turns up at the office every morning. ‘On the ground floor of the offices we have construction, management, rental and sales. Upstairs there’s the electronics and telecommunications division, four different companies doing everything from solar to air-con and fibre optics and everything you can think of with electronics. I’ve handed the reins over to my daughters, but I’m still here. My desk is the same,’ Alan tells us.
The unveiling event was kept a complete surprise from Alan as the crowd lined up to applaud the man who was one of the main figures defining what the Costa del Sol would be, because Alan James is the Costa del Sol.

Fuengirola has installed three more ‘sleeping policemen’ on the Paseo Marítimo in order to reduce the speed of traffic, one of the actions the town hall has launched to enforce road safety measures in this area and that is in addition to the intensification of police controls and the reinforcement of road signage.
The council has now installed a total of ten speed bumps on this stretch of road between Carvajal and Torreblanca, which has a 30km/h speed limit.
Likewise, the Local Police force has intensified the random controls in this area to monitor speed, check for drivers under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs, along with other offences like using a mobile phone while driving.

Héctor was one of the thousands of passengers who had an unpleasant journey home on Sunday, yet still managed to get to their destination, while others couldn't. Four cable thefts at different points on the Madrid-Seville high-speed line left more than 10,000 passengers without transport. While some were stuck inside trains, the situation found others waiting at the station.
Puente assured that the Guardia Civil is already investigating the case. According to the minister, there are four cable thefts at different points within a radius of 10 kilometres. He described these tools as "the security systems of the line". "The effect this will have on the trains that still have to run today is going to be very serious. We will barely have two hours from when we finish today to repair it," he said last night on the social media platform X.
Adif said that "the cable cuts and theft have occurred in the municipalities of Los Yebenes (kilometre points 92/850 and 93/600) and Manzaneque (kilometre points 101/400 and 102/200), affecting the line's signalling installations", which is the reason for the delays in the service.
"If anyone can offer information, all possible collaboration is appreciated. These events are very serious," he reiterated.
As announced by Renfe, there will be one-hour delays in the departure of the high-speed trains on the Madrid-Seville and Madrid-Toledo lines, in both directions. This measure is necessary for the repair works in the early hours of the morning. In addition, Renfe's president said that the last scheduled high-speed train departures from Atocha station have been cancelled "to make room for the arrival of the backed-up trains".
The president of Andalucía's regional government, Juanma Moreno, has demanded that the central government offer alternatives to passengers, especially given that the dates of travel are of high importance. "I am very concerned about the situation that is affecting thousands of Renfe passengers, especially on the AVE train that connect Andalucía with Madrid," he said.
President of Madrid's regional government Isabel Díaz Ayuso - member of the right-wing PP party - blamed the left-leaning central government for the recent "blackouts and breakdowns", calling them "a daily calamity, international embarrassment and damage to the economy". "If the PP were governing, the left would have been setting fire to the streets from day one. But let no one confuse good sense with indifference. Spain is fed up."
At least ten high-speed trains between Malaga and Madrid (in both directions) were affected this Monday morning by the double incident that happened last night on the high-speed line (LAV) near Toledo : first, sabotage, with the theft of the cable from the security installations, and then the snagging and dragging of the catenary by a train.
State rail infrastructure company Adif is working on the issue and hopes to restore the track this morning. Hence, the talk of delays, rather than cancellations. In their latest update, it reports that rail service on the Madrid-south of Spain high-speed line is scheduled to resume "around 9.30am," both from Madrid and from the stations in Málaga. Seville and Granada.

Travelers wait for news about their delayed trains at the Madrid train station
caught smuggling 11kg of cocaine and cannabis inside his luggage estimated at a street value of around €250,000
He will be charged later today at around 2pm in front of magistrate Lara Lanfranco
Last Monday's massive power outage in Spain has once again brought to the forefront all that is lacking in Andalucía's electricity transmission infrastructure
with four of the region's provinces being among the last to recover their power supply after the nationwide outage
The regional Junta government has long been calling for the modernisation of this power transmission grid
whose shortcomings hamper the possibility of developing all the electricity generation projects using renewable sources - especially solar and wind - that are in the pipeline
all because there is insufficient infrastructure to connect this energy to the rest of the country
Last Monday's power loss provided another weighty argument for this situation to be brought to the table and properly addressed
as the provinces with the least-developed electricity transmission grid took the longest to fully recover supply and return to normality - namely Jaen
Andalucía as a region suffers from a notable deficit in the density of its electricity transmission grid
According to estimates by the regional energy ministry
and it is in these four provinces where the shortfall is most notable
the region has some 742 kilometres of grid per million inhabitants compared to the Spanish average of 1,242 kilometres
according to latest data available at the end of 2022
The regional government had already developed a proposal for investment in the electricity transmission grid and was aiming to improve infrastructure in critical areas
the Junta has called for these investments to be speeded up
which should be included in the regional 2025-2030 energy plan
and for the development of the regulatory framework to be accelerated in order to promote storage systems in renewable generation plants
in which Andalucía aspires to be a leader due to the climate and weather lending themselves to renewables
that their usefulness is not limited to feeding electricity into the grid only when there is sun or wind
Among the regulatory changes that the Junta de Andalucía is calling for are the elimination of the cap on investment in networks
both in transmission (0.065% of GDP) and distribution (0.13% of GDP)
and the use of European funds to accelerate the development of the grid network without increasing electricity bills
Back in April the regional government submitted to the Ministry for ecological transition in Madrid and Red Eléctrica (the company responsible for the national grid) an investment proposal for the development of the electricity transmission grid in Andalucía for the period 2025-2030 based on four premises
The first is to take advantage of the abundant renewable resources available in the region
both in the two currently most developed - solar and wind - as well as those that are still less developed
The second premise is to address the growing demands for electrification and electric mobility
the green hydrogen economy and industrial projects that require high consumption
The third seeks to strengthen interconnections with other Spanish regions for the deployment of renewable energy production and new industrial developments
to which the Junta attaches great importance
is to achieve the location of investment and employment driving initiatives that help retain and even boost population
thereby favouring its socio-economic development
the regional government requested that central government build six substations
88 new positions (including substation extensions) and eight new double-circuit lines in the transmission grid as the key actions needing to be done to the electricity transmission grid
This would involve an investment of 544 million euros to be executed in the period between 2025 and 2030
Although the Junta's request includes investments in all eight Andalusian provinces
it has requested infrastructure projects that have a significant impact on four geographical areas with the greatest investment gap
which account for 35% of Andalucía's surface area
including just one provincial capital city - Jaen - and 23 municipalities with over 15,000 inhabitants
thus affecting 18% of the regional population
These four areas to be targeted for improvement include the Baza-Úbeda-Manzanares connection (Castilla-La Mancha) in the province of Jaen to support the distribution and generation of renewables in the south of Jaen (Mazuelos) as it is one of the areas with the least infrastructure
The second is the Lancha-Peñarroya-Maguilla connection (Extremadura) in the province of Cordoba
where there are also requests for developments in Los Pedroches and Alto Guadiato as well as a new interconnection axis with Seville
Next is the Costa de la Luz-Puebla de Guzmán-Brovales (Extremadura) connection in the province of Huelva for renewable energy exchange and to meet the demand of the Faja Pirítica
the Arcos-Cartuja connection and other actions to improve security of supply and to respond to industrial and renewable energy projects in Cadiz province
In addition to the aforementioned infrastructure projects
investment requests have also been made for the other provinces of Andalucía
In Malaga and Granada the Junta has requested a new line to improve system security and to meet the growth of the Axarquia and Costa Tropical areas
a new 400 kV structural connection that will increase the grid meshing
unlock new renewable evacuation capacity and enable access to new industrial demands
the Junta is calling for implementation of the actions already committed to in the previous plan
actions to strengthen the grid in the province that have not yet been executed
in addition to the expansion of positions in several substations to serve renewable energy and industrial projects
These 544 million euros that the Junta deems a necessary investment are in addition to the value of the strategic infrastructures that the central ministry will undertake in the region
as with those required for railway development by Adif
this money is not part of the actions contemplated for Andalucía in the current 2021-2026 energy planning that have not yet been implemented
which represents an estimated investment of 282 million euros
As key new features to prioritise its actions in this new investment period of 2025-2030
the energy ministry in Spain has established a supply guarantee for new energy storage projects
for initiatives aimed at decarbonising industrial activity and those focused on developing the industrial value chain
It also establishes that new transmission grid developments must address territorial cohesion
the demographic challenge and a just transition
a criterion of particular relevance to Andalucía
These new developments are in addition to the priority established in the previous planning to evacuate renewable generation to advance the energy system transition
the regional government has taken into account the Ministry's proposal
which is also aligned with Andalucía's energy industry policy with its commitment to the deployment of renewables
The region is the third in Spain for green energy generation with a total of 11,803 megawatts (MW)
Malaga province has 1.77 million inhabitants
according to the latest data from the annual census of Spain's population for 2024 published by Spain's INE national statistics institute
This proportion of foreign residents is higher than the total for Spain that is still under 20%: of the total of 48.6 million inhabitants in the country
is in fifth place for the highest number of foreign-born residents
Malaga has a larger foreign population than Seville
despite the fact that the capital of the Andalucía region is more populated than Malaga (it has almost two million inhabitants
of which just over 140,500 are foreigners)
Malaga drops a few places in the national ranking: the 23% weighting of its foreign population practically equals that of Lleida
while in Almeria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife it is around 24%
the Balearic Islands and Alicante it ranges between 26% and 27%
to gain a more accurate picture of what is happening in the province
it is necessary to go down to the municipal level
The proportion of the foreign population varies greatly from one locality to another
This is because the reasons why foreigners move to this province are widely different
some people come to work here in search of a better future than that offered by their place of origin
as is the case for most people coming from North Africa or Latin America
There are also people fleeing international conflicts
such as those who have arrived from Ukraine
Then there is a third group that is unique to Spain's Mediterranean coast and its archipelagos: the one formed mainly by Europeans who retire here for the better climate and to enjoy living by the sea
in more than a third of Malaga's municipalities
residents born in other countries account for at least 20% on the Costa del Sol
Among those places are not only the large towns on the coast
where almost 64% of the people on the census were born outside Spain
of the 9,265 inhabitants of this municipality
the largest group is made up of citizens from the United Kingdom (1,388)
mainly from the centre and south of the continent
with between 40% and 45% of their population born abroad
there are seven towns of very different sizes
In the first instance we find some very populous ones like Fuengirola
which has a total population of over 85,600 with over 38,200 being foreigners
the Finnish and British communities exceed 4,600 apiece
while the Moroccan community numbers over 4,100
there are around 10,000 Latin American citizens
Alcaucín and Sayalonga are in a similar situation
The latter is the smallest of the group: it has just 1,624 residents
of whom more than 700 are of foreign origin - especially British and Germans
who account for around half of this figure
Manilva and Torrox have a similar proportion of foreign population
The former has a population of close to 18,000 inhabitants
of whom more than 7,600 were born in other countries
followed by Moroccans at over 1,000 people
in addition to more than 1,500 from American countries
of its 21,400 inhabitants slightly more than 9,000 were born in other countries
With foreign-born populations of around 37%
The former has a total population of 159,054
the largest community by nation is Moroccan
This is in line with what happens in the province as a whole
where Moroccan is the dominant non-Spanish nationality
Marbella has some 20,300 Latin American residents as a group
with Colombians and Argentines as the most prominent nationalities
4,200 Ukrainians and 3,300 of Russian origin
and those of European origin total over 23,000
The most important non-Spanish nationality here is British (7,193 people that
together with the rest of the people from European countries
followed by those from Morocco (3,617) and Argentina (3,208
a figure that exceeds 9,200 people if all the Latin American countries are added together)
which together with all the other Europeans exceeds 12,350) and Morocco (2,812)
It is the second municipality in the province with the highest density of population born outside Spain
the ones with the largest number of residents born outside of Spain in absolute numbers
Close behind them are Estepona and Torremolinos with nearly 26,000 and over 21,000 respectively
In Estepona the foreign population represents 33% of the total population on the census
Some 14,000 of these come from European countries

A court in Malaga has sentenced the Serbian man who killed a sex worker by stabbing and pushing her from a sixth-floor balcony in the city's Teatinos neighbourhood to 13 years in prison
The defendant said that he had been under the influence of alcohol and drugs at the time of the incident
and although he claimed to have already served two years for a crime he had not committed
the man began to behave in a particularly violent and aggressive manner when the woman arrived in his flat
She also tried to get out of his reach by sitting on the ledge of the flat's window balcony
After hitting and stabbing her under the jaw
the man tried to lift and throw her from the balcony
as she clung to the ledge with all her strength
his considerably larger body size (standing almost two metres tall and height and weighing 120kg) and strength meant that she could do little to defend herself and finally he managed to push her over the edge
She died almost instantly on impact with the ground
in addition to claiming that he had been under the influence of alcohol and drugs
said that he believed that the victim had conspired with others to rob him
which is why he did not move away from the door of the house after grabbing a knife
He said he thought that the woman was in the room even when the police arrested him
The sentence includes eight years of probation once he leaves prison
as well as compensation of 90,000 euros for the victim's daughter

Rebeca Rodríguez saw that a place was available a few metres from Karmela Restaurant
where she was cooking under the guidance of Daniel Peregrina
made Rebeca a proposal to become partners and she accepted
Today she is in charge of the kitchen of this new business that was launched just five months ago under the name of Vendaval in Calle Málaga in Alhaurín de la Torre
"The idea was to set up a seafood restaurant
something informal and with a lot of emphasis on fried fish
because there are not so many places to eat it here
but little by little people have been asking us for the more innovative cuisine that we do at Karmela and we have been incorporating other dishes such as the prawn pil pil rolls." explains Daniel Peregrina about a constantly evolving menu and an affordable average price (around 15-20 euros)
gildas (a salty tapa) and fried fish such as lemon anchovies
scrambled eggs with pork cheeks and flambéed kimchi aioli
among other proposals with which they aim to offer something different to the town's gastronomic offer
This is how Rebeca Rodríguez sees it: "Many people knew us from Karmela and are used to the creative cuisine that is done there
while at the same time offering the essence of a seafood restaurant"
Although some very peculiar drawings also hang on the walls: the ones left on the paper tablecloths by the youngest members of the family
in addition to the dishes 'For the little ones' and the location in a pedestrian street
says Peregrina about a space that can seat around twenty diners
A team of four people are in charge of running this new venture
which aspires to establish itself as a casual alternative to Alhaurinos' lunch and dinner
And another date for wine lovers: Barbadillo wine tasting with four courses on 14 May at 9pm (26 euros)
after the fire at La Deriva restaurant in Soho
giving way to a new and more varied culinary offer while still maintaining a terrace on Muelle Uno where drinks and cocktails have always been the mainstay
decided not long after the work on the damaged restaurant began
to bring the type of food demanded by the public in La Deriva to this space
who until then had been the head chef of the Japanese restaurant Ta-kumi in Malaga
Japanese-influenced dishes were served as an accompaniment to the cocktails
The arrival of Miguel Mayor to take over the kitchen at Cávala has also meant that Cobalto 15 now has a new culinary proposal focused more on the sharing style of cuisine and not exempt from traditional Malaga flavours
which is served here with slices of aubergine in tempura and seasoned with sugar cane honey
some very juicy and crunchy croquettes or the classic Russian salad version of Miguel and which includes an air of lemon that balances the rest of the flavours and acts as a common thread between them
a cuisine with national roots and designed to be shared by the customer
Creativity and tradition come together in a menu of casual cuisine with an edgy air aimed at a younger public and not at all tied to conventional opening hours
which is why at Cobalto 15 the kitchen does not close for the entire opening hours of the establishment
Another novelty that may attract the most attention is closely related to the average price of a lunch or dinner
around 30 euros if you are careful with the drinks and cocktails
The service still needs further adjustment to the new philosophy that Antonio García has embodied in Cobalto 15
is long and it is very noticeable in the new gastronomic venture of this restaurant
A potato cake with a very fine texture in the mouth but with a strong flavour forms the base of a beef tartar
A salad that stands out for its correct serving temperature
a very balanced flavour of all its ingredients
especially that of the crab and a very ethereal foam
and with a thin base and crispy onion piled on top of the loin
it is one of the most texturally successful cod dishes
The Inés Rosales torta on which the Iberian prey carpaccio sits does not help the flavour that should be found in this dish; it is too sweet despite the seasoning of the carpaccio itself
Cobalto 15 (Malaga) Address: Paseo de la Farola, 4. Telephone: 722 653 752. Web: cobalto15.es
Prices: Salami tartar: 12€ Potato pie: 12.50€ Crab salad: 15€.

The cable theft took place at four points on the high-speed line in Toledo in central Spain

Travel chaos erupted across Spain on Monday as a brazen cable theft crippled the high-speed rail link between Madrid and Seville
leaving thousands of passengers stranded and delayed
which targeted the crucial signalling system cables at four separate locations late Sunday
particularly impacting those returning to the capital after the holiday weekend
Madrid's Atocha station became a scene of confusion and frustration as throngs of travellers sought information from overwhelmed rail staff and anxiously scanned departure boards for updates
urged passengers with early morning departures to delay their arrival at the station to avoid further overcrowding
The disruption underscored the vulnerability of critical infrastructure and the widespread impact such targeted thefts can have on essential services
On Monday, droves of travellers crowded Madrid's Atocha station seeking information about their trains from rail employees and screens with updated departure times
Spain's state-owned rail operator Renfe told passengers with trains departing Madrid before 8 am to not arrive early to avoid further crowding
Alberto Valero and his family had spent hours at the station by 9 am due to the delays on the train line connecting Madrid and Seville
Valero was on vacation in Spain from Mexico
and expressed frustration about the lack of information
“We're here with tourists from everywhere — France, Portugal,” Valero said
“Everyone is at a loss for what to do because of the total disarray.”
The cable theft took place at four points on the high-speed line in Toledo in central Spain
Spain’s railway infrastructure company ADIF said on X
The incident came a week after a massive power outage in Spain and Portugal ground high-speed train traffic in Spain to a halt
On Monday ts was revealed the Spanish electricity grid suffered a first power generation outage 19 seconds before the blackout
according to Energy Minister Sara Aagesen said on Monday
The grid resisted that first outage but two subsequent ones moments later in Southwestern Spain brought the grid to a standstill
she said in an interview on state TV channel
She said Red Electrica is still investigating what happened on Monday when a massive general blackout hit most of Spain and Portugal.

A forest fire has broken out caused by what is thought to have been a lightning strike early Saturday
in the El Pocico area of Huércal de Almería has led to the activation of the pre-emergency phase of the Infoca Plan
The blaze, mostly scorching esparto grass fields and scrubland in the Sierra de Gádor across Huércal de Almería
is said to remain distant from the most populated areas
not posing an immediate threat to residents
but is causing concern due to its rapid spread
The fire’s visibility from nearby towns led to over 100 emergency calls from Huércal de Almería
the Civil Guard requested the evacuation of approximately 20 people from the Las Balsas area in Gádor
though Mayor Lourdes Ramos reported the situation was under control
Emergency plans have been activated due to potential risks exacerbated by changing winds
The response peaked with over 100 personnel
Aerial support includes two Superpuma helicopters and one medium-heavy helicopter
just leaving ground crews to attempt to stop the fire from spreading more
Huércal de Almería’s patron saint festivities have continued so far uninterrupted

Bordalás is the main candidate to be the next coach of the Seville team
José Bordalás has not been officially announced as the new coach of Sevilla FC yet
but he is already thinking about strengthening the team with an old acquaintance: Mauro Arambarri
who leads the list of candidates to lead the Nervión bench next season
is clear that the Uruguayan midfielder would be the first player he would request if his arrival is confirmed
The objective is clear: to build a competitive team based on solidity and effort
two concepts that define the Getafe midfielder
The harmony between Bordalás and Arambarri goes beyond football
They have shared multiple battles at the blue-and-white team
where the Uruguayan became one of the coach's most reliable men
and balance in the double pivot make him a profile that fits perfectly with Bordalás' intended style of play at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán
Víctor Orta is working on planning a more solid and pragmatic squad
and the name of Arambarri emerges strongly as a realistic and affordable option
With a contract until 2026 and no prohibitive clause
the Seville club could finalize his signing for a figure close to seven million euros
Those around the player would view positively a leap to a project with European aspirations
this change would signify a new phase with greater challenges
it would mean having a trusted man to lead Sevilla's new era
The alliance between them could be the first step towards a more resilient and competitive team in the 2025-2026 season

Shrestha noticed that lights had appeared to return to most urban areas across the Iberian Peninsula by April 29
that rural areas—especially in Andalusia and the southern and eastern parts of the Granada region shown above—remained dark
“These prompt observations of nighttime lights are invaluable for rapidly assessing the extent and progression of such outages
especially in areas where ground reporting may be delayed,” Shrestha said
Analyses of Black Marble data collected after disasters in other parts of the world have revealed that people in rural areas frequently have to wait longer than those in urban areas for power to be restored. Miguel Román, the deputy director for atmospheres and data systems at NASA Goddard, and colleagues observed the phenomenon in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria
“It creates a major dilemma since most rural areas are populated by at-risk populations
like the elderly,” Román said
“The April 28 blackout across Spain and Portugal highlights the importance of accessible tools like Black Marble in enhancing disaster response and resilience planning.”

crushing a man as it does in O’Connor’s novella “The Displaced Person.” Or the barn from which the Bible salesman from the short story “Good Country People” ran off

“O’Connor has truly an international reach,” says Andalusia’s curator
who gathered inspiration from it for U2’s The Joshua Tree
The Coen brothers have cited her gory influence on their films
Visitors to Milledgeville experience the world as she saw it: the front bedroom where she wrote each morning
desk facing inward and curtains closed; the outbuildings that housed the itinerant farmhands who inspired many of her characters; the front porch where she’d teach students and chat with writers who stopped by to meet her; peafowl roosting outside
Georgia College and State University took over stewardship of the property from a private foundation
it cut the ribbon on a sleek new interpretive center
the center houses many of O’Connor’s possessions: a belted dress covered in green chickens; the children’s book The Little Lame Prince
will unveil some of her belongings that have never been displayed
an 1850s Plantation Plain structure that GCSU preserved to the time period when O’Connor and her mother
The Hotpoint refrigerator O’Connor bought with royalties from the Gene Kelly–helmed TV adaptation of her short story “The Life You Save May Be Your Own” still stands (O’Connor hated the movie
the Georgia Writers Museum provides an in-depth introduction to the wider area’s literary wealth
Currently undergoing a top-to-bottom renovation and set to reopen this spring
the new space will show how authors have long taken inspiration from the entire region’s rich soil and history
“These stories couldn’t have happened anywhere else.”

Kay Ivey awarded Andalusia a grant this week to help with a major city expansion
the city broke ground on a new plant for Conecuh Sausage
the company is getting more funds to help get the job done
The family-owned business began in Evergreen in 1947
the southern staple’s market is expanding past what it can produce
so it’s adding this new plant one county over to meet demands
But now it’s beginning to become a Texas product
so what a great opportunity for Andalusia to be on the ground floor of this potentially exponential growth that the future holds for Conecuh Sausage,” said Andalusia city administrator John Thompson
This more than 100,000-square-foot facility is being built in the Andalusia industrial park
Ivey awarded the project a $400,000 grant this week
which will be used to provide sewer service and public water to the plant
This plant will also have the latest technology
allowing Conecuh Sausage to optimize production
“It is also going to be a lot more efficient,” Thompson said
“So it will have the latest in terms of all of the equipment that they’ll have in it
and doing all of the things they need to do to have a better product.”
The city of Andalusia hopes to have this project completed by late spring or early summer and be producing that famous Conecuh sausage by June
The plant will employ a minimum of 50 people
but Thompson anticipates the plant to create as many as 120 jobs

Ala (WDHN) — A Covington County family is in disbelief after losing a relative
who died while doing something he loved most
emergency services were called to a local swimming area
after reports of someone going under the water
emergency services were able to recover the body of 20-year-old Kentravious Likely
“Everything is still just a blur; it’s a nightmare,” said Kentravious’ aunt
The news sent a shockwave through the victim’s family
“No amount of words can express what we are feeling right now
He was all of our baby; as close as we are as siblings
Likely and a group of friends swam out to a buoy in the water
but likely continued to hang on to the buoy
A friend tried to help likely back to shore
The victim’s family described him as a great athlete but a gentle giant who lived his life to the fullest
Lucinda says that her nephew spent plenty of his time in the waters
with the family calling him somewhat of a merman and a daredevil
The family says that the nature of his death did not come as a total shock to them
but more so the fact that their dear loved one is actually gone
Leaving them with memories of the time they had with him
“We took a family trip to the mountains in Tennessee
and you talk about an experience…We rode roller coasters
We rode go-karts; I can’t express how happy I am that we had that trip
Something that no one can ever take away,” said Elliott Likely
The death of Likely not only took a toll on the family
with many people coming to the family’s aid when needed
The victim’s mom says the outreach from everyone just highlights the type of person her son was and the impact he left while on this earth
“20 years to make an impact like he did
The outpouring of love and support…It was an honor to be his mom,” said Luquita Likely
While the death of Kentavious will be incredibly difficult to process
the family wanted to thank everyone who has come to be there in their time of need
including the River Falls police department and the Covington County Sheriff’s Office
